01:34 AM Deejay: moin
05:01 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:02 AM XXCoder: yo
08:11 AM perry_j1987: morning all
08:43 AM perry_j1987: im planning on making some gang tool holders for my lathe. should i drill out and then ream or do i need to get a boring head
08:44 AM perry_j1987: going to mount the block and use the lathe spindle itself to make the holes perfectly on center
09:07 AM perry_j1987: too late.. ordered a boring head heh
09:25 AM JT-Shop: roycroft, for knifes I agree that wear should be even... I don't subscribe to that idea for carbide inserts
09:39 AM roycroft: it depends on how you want to manage them, but i know where you're coming from there
09:39 AM roycroft: i prefer to try to wear them evenly and rotate them all at once
09:40 AM roycroft: but it's perfectly legitimate to monitor and rotate individual inserts as needed
09:40 AM roycroft: probably a bit more economical
09:56 AM Roguish: good morning all. is the mail list up? I haven't seen any new emails yesterday or this morning. very unusually quiet.
09:59 AM roycroft: i've not received any posts since the 4th
10:04 AM Roguish: that's what I mean
10:30 AM roycroft: there is a new fire complex due east of where i'll be camping next week, but fortunately the prevailing (winds) will keep it from affecting my trip, unless there's a sudden change in the wind
10:31 AM roycroft: and the forecast for eugene calls for a high of 40 degrees on thursday next
10:31 AM roycroft: it's a good thing i extended my trip to friday :)
10:32 AM roycroft: yeah, next thursday - coast: 17 home: 40
10:56 AM perry_j1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbxcX9q7XLs
11:03 AM roycroft: do any of you have the new might-mag with the quick release?
11:03 AM * roycroft wonders if it works as well as a standard magnetic indicator holder
11:03 AM roycroft: and i suppose "new" may be relative - i have a mighty mag that i bought about 15 years ago, and the quick release version was not available then
11:03 AM roycroft: i need another one now
12:45 PM solarwind: My Makita angle grinder 5020C is rated for 11,000 RPM no load speed, but my laser tachometer is reading 9,500.
12:51 PM CloudEvil: Isthat battery?
01:22 PM perry_j1987: there we go about half of the lathe's cabinet is siliconed in now
01:22 PM perry_j1987: need to level it so it all flows towards the corner so i can put a drain in now
01:58 PM perry_j1987: there we go
01:58 PM perry_j1987: got a return drain finally
02:02 PM JT-Shop: 2 steps fwd 1 step back... got to repack 8 air filter kits and add the missing zip ties
02:51 PM Rhine_Labs: My replacement SDM3065X 6.5 Digit DMM is on the way..
02:59 PM Tom_itx: JT-Shop, customer complain?
02:59 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
03:06 PM JT-Shop: no, I'm just assembling the kits now and had 8 done then looked over at the bags of zip ties
03:06 PM Tom_L: woops
03:06 PM perry_j1987: ouch
03:08 PM Tom_L: i've got win10 pro still in a sealed package too got by happenstance
03:08 PM Tom_L: i've got software i use that won't run on it
03:16 PM JT-Shop: last one assembled and no parts left on the assembly bench :)
03:16 PM * JT-Shop still runs xp on a laptop
03:18 PM Tom_L: just sweep em under the floor mat..
03:24 PM JT-Shop: one time I ended up with a set of instructions... lucky that I only had to open up a few to find where it went
03:24 PM JT-Shop: I stretch wrap the kit so kinda of a pain to open up
03:31 PM Rhine_Labs: Got the Tormach ECM control PCB in for repair https://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/20210806_1256201-1024x576.jpg
03:32 PM perry_j1987: whats wrong with it
03:35 PM Rhine_Labs: Guy hooked up DC Backwords
03:36 PM Tom_L: it should be keyed so you can't do that
03:36 PM Rhine_Labs: Visual missing an AC Relay and D27/28 Missing https://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/20210806_125655-1024x576.jpg
03:38 PM Rhine_Labs: Will get to it a little more in a few days.
03:48 PM perry_j1987: thats d22 and d23 Rhine_Labs missing
03:57 PM JT-Shop: I guess I'm at the end of the fedex run today...
03:58 PM Rhine_Labs: Ahh yep typo
03:59 PM Rhine_Labs: Long morning already LOL
04:00 PM perry_j1987: heh
04:02 PM perry_j1987: i need plan some mods to this lathe
04:02 PM perry_j1987: need a longer ballscrew on X and do some mods to the ballscrew nut mount so i can gain a lot more travel on X
04:02 PM perry_j1987: getting a gang tooling setup going
04:03 PM perry_j1987: either that or i make fixtures that mount on with just the tools for each op
04:18 PM Rhine_Labs: I hope i get to pipe the ship air this weekend.
04:18 PM Rhine_Labs: Shop
05:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:39 PM _unreal_: ship air?
05:39 PM _unreal_: LOL
06:21 PM perry_j1987: thunderstorm out
06:21 PM perry_j1987: but its sunny... so odd
06:22 PM Tom_L: stir it up and make some hail and tornados !
06:23 PM Tom_L: we had a decent one couple weeks ago
06:29 PM MrHindsight[m]: hardly any rain here for the past month,. small lakes and ponds are just mud fields
06:29 PM MrHindsight[m]: but of course this weekend is a car show so rain expected tonight and all day tomorrow
07:02 PM roycroft: we had 19 1/2 raindrops yesterday
07:02 PM roycroft: first rain since late may or early june
07:03 PM Tom_L: and they actually hit the ground?
07:05 PM roycroft: they hit the windshield of my car
07:05 PM roycroft: i was driving at the time
07:05 PM roycroft: and i think i am the only person who reported rain
07:10 PM Rhine_Labs: SOD-323 1N4148
07:11 PM Tom_L: pretty common
07:13 PM XXCoder: roy yeah finally rained yeserday night, barely
07:13 PM XXCoder: i could walk around and barely get wet at all
07:19 PM Rhine_Labs: My passenger side window regulator cable snapped yesterday LOL
07:20 PM Rhine_Labs: Must have known it was going to rain today.
07:27 PM roycroft: this is why $deity gave us duct tape
08:05 PM Rhine_Labs: Pulled door panel off pushed it up and zip tied it till new reg arrives.
08:05 PM roycroft: i have to replace the driver's door on my pickup
08:06 PM roycroft: someone backed a 4x6 into the edge of the door while it was open a couple years ago at the country fair, and the latch will not engage
08:06 PM roycroft: i tried pulling it back out but i've not been able to do so
08:06 PM roycroft: so i have it strapped shut, and i have been using the passenger door ever since, which has grown rather old
08:07 PM roycroft: i just picked up a new door from a wrecking yard, and as the window regulator has never worked properly, bought a brand new window regulator
08:07 PM roycroft: but i have to transfer the trim, the glass, the hardware, etc. from the old door
08:08 PM roycroft: it should take an hour and a half, but since it's vehicle-related, i need to clear a full day for the job
08:30 PM roycroft: ok, i just saw a video of the best thing this week
08:30 PM roycroft: foo fighters are doing a gig in kansas tonight, and the westboro baptist church are protesting (again), with their usual "god hates fags" and the like signs
08:31 PM roycroft: so foo fighters got on the back of a flat-bed truck and drove by and trolled them (again - they've done this before), singing a cover of the bee gee's "you should be dancing"
08:32 PM roycroft: they rick rolled the wbc a few years ago
08:35 PM Tom_L: could have gone the rest of my life not knowing that but ok
08:46 PM roycroft: you could have, but now your life is enriched beyond what it otherwise would have been
08:50 PM Tom_L: not quite how i viewed it but ok
08:50 PM Tom_L: i'd much rather hear about your mill build or such
09:23 PM roycroft: i really have to deal with that
09:23 PM roycroft: i coudn't work on it until i got the new garage door opener, but that's done
09:23 PM roycroft: and i just picked up a dro for my drum sander today from cl
09:24 PM roycroft: i need to fab a couple brackets for it, so i need the mill working
09:24 PM roycroft: i'm hoping to get working on it next weekend, after i return from my vacation
10:02 PM roycroft: the bootleg fire is no longer the largest in the country, although it continues to grow
10:02 PM roycroft: the dixie fire in northern california is now the largest
10:46 PM Rhine_Labs: So far 2 Diodes and a RT8279 I think I know that part H form the Reg form a motorola modem.
10:47 PM Rhine_Labs: If memory is correct will snag RT8279 from the modem and the diodes form the limit switch circuit and see if she boots.
11:04 PM Rhine_Labs: Shucks RT8298
