12:10 AM XXCoder: yeah
12:17 AM XXCoder: orange skies
12:17 AM XXCoder: way wrose than my location
12:17 AM roycroft: the bootleg fire is over 200,000 acres now
12:17 AM XXCoder: :(
12:17 AM XXCoder: i read that its 5% contained
12:17 AM XXCoder: not great
12:17 AM roycroft: and now there's the darlene fire, which is right on highway 97
12:17 AM roycroft: 5% contained is 5% more than yesterday
12:17 AM XXCoder: yep
01:10 AM Deejay: moin
01:41 AM randy: morning
03:49 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
03:59 AM Tom_L: morning
03:59 AM Tom_L: yeah that's stuck again
05:09 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:09 AM XXCoder: heys
07:38 AM Tom_L: chance of T-storms, Hi 82F
07:56 AM JT-Cave: 100% chance of shower here
07:57 AM XXCoder: might be little cloudy today
07:57 AM XXCoder: bit late as we are having fires alread
08:24 AM perry_j1987: morning
08:40 AM perry_j1987: so had something odd happen with my spindle
08:41 AM perry_j1987: went out to shop and started it up round 6k for little to warm it up and then bumped it to 24k and noticed it getting really warm
08:41 AM perry_j1987: grabbed temp probe and 126 degrees on the spindle mount
08:42 AM perry_j1987: noticed the spindle felt tighter before i had done that but figured i was not remembering exctly how it felt before
08:42 AM perry_j1987: so fastforward couple days. went back out to the shop to sort it out
08:43 AM perry_j1987: spindle still feeling like too much preload on the bearings
08:43 AM perry_j1987: so unplugged it and took water lines off
08:43 AM perry_j1987: took spindle off the machine and inverted it to empty the coolant
08:43 AM perry_j1987: all of sudden noticed it spun freely again....
08:44 AM perry_j1987: super weird. not a fan of "non fix - fixes"
08:44 AM perry_j1987: put it all back together and fired it up and stays room temp now again
08:47 AM CloudEvil: odd
08:56 AM perry_j1987: super odd
08:58 AM CloudEvil: It span freely before re-adding coolant?
08:58 AM CloudEvil: oh
10:33 AM roycroft: could it be the clamping pressure when mounted on the machine?
10:33 AM roycroft: if it wasn't lined up properly when it was overheating, removing it and reinstalling it may have fixed that
02:14 PM roycroft: it's a nice, quiet day here
02:14 PM roycroft: i wonder if i should have dared to say that
02:15 PM JT-Shop: I was thinking the same thing...
02:18 PM roycroft: if this is a new trend i'll be happy
02:19 PM roycroft: it's lunch time now, and i'm going to go polish my faux ebony pegs to see if they'll work out
02:24 PM enleth: roycroft: there's a juvenile joke hidden somewhere in that last statement but I can't quite make it out
02:31 PM roycroft: work on it :)
02:31 PM roycroft: they are turning out at least as well as i expected
02:31 PM roycroft: fairly shiny, jet black, but they don't look exactly like real ebony
02:31 PM roycroft: too much grain
02:31 PM roycroft: which is what i kind of expected
02:32 PM roycroft: still, they're probably acceptable, but it's a lot of work making them - it might be cheaper to just pay $80/lb for real ebony
03:06 PM JT-Shop: weird I've gotten a few call backs saying they had a missed call from my number... seems like normal folks
03:15 PM perry_j1987: shoddy hotspot internet out here
03:15 PM perry_j1987: cloud must have gone by heh
03:15 PM roycroft: fake caller id stuff again
03:16 PM roycroft: that problem should mostly go away this fall
03:16 PM roycroft: the early verdict is that the faux ebony plugs may be acceptable
03:17 PM roycroft: unfortunately, the way i'm making them, i can only make two at a time, and it takes two days to make a pair of them
03:17 PM roycroft: i need 18 in all for this project, so it will be a while before i'm done
03:17 PM roycroft: although once i get the wide ones finished i should be able to make 4 or 6 at a time
03:18 PM roycroft: they're certaily good enough for a shop fixture :)
03:32 PM JT-Shop: some components went up some went down for an overall increase of $8 to my Spyder Air Filter Kit
05:16 PM CaptHindsight: ok, matrix bridge still broken from there to here
05:17 PM CaptHindsight: adjusting the feed rate and depth of cut to minimize material removal time is straightforward..
05:17 PM CaptHindsight: which algorithms are typically used for the "Traveling Salesman" problem to reduce the roughing and finishing tool path times?
05:44 PM JT-Shop: band saw
05:45 PM CaptHindsight: enleth: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Marcin-Paprocki/publication/324147983_Flexible_PC-based_CNC_machine_control_system/links/5ad4f6b10f7e9b285936ab47/Flexible-PC-based-CNC-machine-control-system.pdf?origin=publication_detail
05:46 PM roycroft: isn't the traveling salesman's problem usually the farmer getting in the way of the salesman and the farmer's daughter?
05:50 PM JT-Shop: we had a 409 salesman once and he cleaned a bit of the door...
06:02 PM * JT-Shop was a vacuum cleaner salesman for one or two days
06:14 PM Tom_L: did you at least sell your demo?
06:15 PM JT-Cave: turned it back in when I figured out how lame it was lol
06:19 PM Tom_L: hah
09:42 PM _unreal_: My part came out ok that I printed
09:42 PM _unreal_: not perfect by any means
09:42 PM _unreal_: but it fits and works
10:32 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:51 PM roycroft: fitting and working is a good start, and sometimes it's enough
11:25 PM XXCoder: ny of you know where i can replace nema17 bolts?
11:25 PM XXCoder: i cant find bolts :(
11:25 PM XXCoder: one got stripped
