12:03 AM randy: morning
02:34 AM andypugh: Tom_L: Yes, it looks like it was closed without merge
02:35 AM Deejay: moin
02:36 AM andypugh: Tom_L: Note also that Dewey pushed https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/2dbb2f640fb87e7fe40c6d83cee381f8643233be some time before that, and that should be considered.
04:03 AM mrec: does anyone know how to connect the spindle override?
04:03 AM mrec: halui.spindle.0.increase basically does nothing
04:04 AM mrec: while I can see that this signal is triggered (in the hal configuration)
04:04 AM Tom_L: look at motion. or spindle.x. as it is now
04:04 AM Tom_L: under motion description
04:05 AM mrec: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/examples/spindle.html
04:05 AM mrec: I must be looking at the wrong place..
04:06 AM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/man/man9/motion.9.html
04:06 AM Tom_L: might be in there
04:07 AM Tom_L: thanks andypugh
04:07 AM Tom_L: morning
04:11 AM mrec: ok I found it it just doesn't make much sense :-)
04:12 AM mrec: I still need to send the g-code Sxxx M3
04:12 AM Tom_L: well yeah
04:12 AM mrec: and then it's all relative to that speed, it would be handy for manual operation to completely control the spindle
04:13 AM Tom_L: then don't tie it into linuxcnc at all
04:17 AM mrec: I think I should be fine for now I have wired up most of the pendant keys
05:40 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:43 AM XXCoder: JT-Cave: we may be getting fire season early this year :(
06:43 AM XXCoder: weekend is 95 to 100f
06:43 AM JT-Cave: yuck
06:44 AM JT-Cave: 54°F this morning
06:44 AM XXCoder: yeah. its far worse for region thats rarely ober 90f at all
06:44 AM JT-Cave: going for another motorcycle ride today
06:44 AM XXCoder: nice
06:45 AM JT-Cave: gotta take advantage of this nice weather we are having
06:46 AM XXCoder: indeed
11:01 AM Loetmichel: **giggle** Just dropped a coworker off on the way home from work. "Dont pay the ferryman!" plays in the car radio. I sing along on full volume. Coworkers expression: priceless :D
11:03 AM Loetmichel: the kid is probably younger than the song.
11:03 AM CloudEvil: Post malone, no option
12:42 PM Guest35 is now known as jlviloria
02:51 PM veegee: JavaBean AC is armoured cable
02:51 PM veegee: JT-Cave what's your favourite motorcycle? Or which one do you have?
02:53 PM veegee: And where did pcw go? He left the freenode channel a few days before everyone else did, but didn't join this one
02:53 PM Tom_L: veegee, goldwing and a spyder
02:53 PM veegee: I have a Triumph Thruxton R, Speed Triple R, BMW R nineT, BMW R1200RT
02:54 PM veegee: The Speed Triple is a masterpiece
02:54 PM veegee: That inline triple is insanely powerful and responsive at all RPMs, unlike a track bike. Crotch rockets are so useless in the real world.
02:55 PM veegee: On a Speed Triple, you don't overtake, you teleport
02:56 PM Tom_L: ok cutter arrived so now i got no excuse to go screw something up
02:56 PM veegee: CPM T15 tool still is on a whole different level
02:57 PM veegee: the wear resistance, hardness, and therefore edge retention is way better than M2 HSS. Expensive, but critical for the vertical shear tool for the lathe
03:03 PM veegee: Tom_L https://www.griggssteel.com/high-speed-steel/pm-t15-steel/ look at that properties comparison chart. M48 is another option. mcmaster sells T15 and M48 blanks'
05:11 PM JT-Shop: 400 miles on the BlueWing last two days
05:12 PM Tom_L: nice day for it
05:13 PM JT-Shop: yep, chance of rain every day for the next 10 days
05:13 PM Tom_L: woodruff cutter works great
05:13 PM JT-Shop: cool
05:14 PM Tom_L: working on the cutting order but http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_slot1.jpg
05:14 PM Tom_L: left one was the keyslot cutter
05:14 PM Tom_L: need to run P2 still
05:20 PM JT-Shop: P2?
05:20 PM Tom_L: position 2
05:20 PM JT-Shop: ahh
05:21 PM Tom_L: just profiles the other half, chamfers the edge and 2 holes
05:31 PM JT-Shop: first half from square block?
05:34 PM _unreal_: wow just downloaded the channel list from freenode wow its down
05:34 PM _unreal_: channels/users
05:43 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, yes
06:05 PM roycroft: how many users now, _unreal_?
06:05 PM * roycroft guestimates 21000
06:18 PM roycroft: i finally started assembling some drawers today
06:19 PM roycroft: i was going to do that yesterday, but i decided to pre-finish the insides of the drawers first, as it makes for a neater job
06:19 PM roycroft: as well, the shellac i purchased was obviously old, as it's taking a very long time to fully harden, so that slows things down even more
06:20 PM roycroft: bullseye solved the problem of people not buying old stock by removing the manufacture date stamp from the cans and replacing it with an undocumented lot number
06:21 PM roycroft: i don't understand how that helps them, though - this can was marginal, but i've returned several cans since they made the change
06:22 PM roycroft: i always test a new can before using it on actual work, and i note the lot number if it's too old
06:22 PM * roycroft wishes shellac.net had not gone under - shellac flakes are a lot easier to deal with, and last indefinitely
06:24 PM CloudEvil: There are other vendors surely?
06:24 PM CloudEvil: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Dewaxed-Shellac-Flakes-Blonde-Technical/dp/B08LH9PSK2
06:24 PM roycroft: they're all really expensive
06:25 PM CloudEvil: ah
06:25 PM roycroft: shellac.net were roughly 30% less expensive than other vendors i've found
06:26 PM roycroft: the bottom line is that shellac is getting more expensive, because harvesting and processing the flakes is very labor intensive, and even in southeast asia, labor is getting more expensive
06:27 PM roycroft: but for liquid shellac, in the usa, bullseye are the only vendor left
06:27 PM roycroft: so i can get their blonde, their amber, or their dewaxed, and those are the only three choices, anywhere
06:27 PM roycroft: oh, there are spray cans of it from bullseye, but i've never had any luck with that stuff, plus it's like 10x as expensive as liquid or flake
06:29 PM snakedLX is now known as snaked
06:32 PM roycroft: i guess it was when rustoleum purchased zinnser that the bullseye line stopped putting date stamps on the cans
07:00 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls1XabACpKI
07:01 PM Tom_L: i forgot who was asking to see how that worked out
07:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/final/A12_4.jpg
07:05 PM XXCoder: seems mcafee died
07:15 PM CloudEvil: https://i.imgur.com/JS7Xb0v.jpg Never forget
07:15 PM CloudEvil: err
07:15 PM CloudEvil: Here is thepoint where if this was discord I'd be pressing the delete button
07:16 PM CloudEvil: https://i.imgur.com/EKClca2.png I meant to link this tweet of his.

07:28 PM veegee: roycroft you said lumber prices are going to drop significantly a few days ago. What makes you say that?
07:31 PM CloudEvil: veegee: lubmer futures market
07:34 PM captain_morgan: oh yeah... re; lumber; my partner said the same thing yesterday, not sure what they heard, meant to read up
07:34 PM veegee: The neighbours are landscapers and deal with lumber a lot, I'll talk to them as well
07:35 PM veegee: Unrelated: This is a video I took of some machine movers delivering a 10,000 lb press brake to my workshop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkjG3ivnMRg
07:35 PM veegee: About a year ago
07:35 PM veegee: I just randomly remembered that roll off bed
07:36 PM veegee: I like the idea of a rolloff mechanism. I'm contemplating building a rolloff bed trailer
07:38 PM veegee: You get the advantage of a tilt bed and full roll off if needed. That might be useful for loading equipment, forklifts, etc.
07:38 PM veegee: And no, the pregnant white dude is not me lol
07:39 PM CloudEvil: neat
07:40 PM captain_morgan: I for one am excited as can be for plywood prices to come down, I spent all winter freezing in my garage getting my 4x8 Avid set up, then after a delay waiting for warm weather, prices went nuts
07:40 PM veegee: captain_morgan yeah me too. I mean just the bit about the plywood prices
07:41 PM veegee: How is the winch being perfectly coordinated with the truck moving forward as the bed is being rolled off?
07:42 PM CloudEvil: Linuxcnc, clearly.
07:42 PM veegee: Nema 23 stepper?
07:45 PM CloudEvil: veegee: More seriously, as the bed touches down, if the brakes are not on, then friction does it.
07:46 PM veegee: OH
07:46 PM veegee: so the winch is just free wheeling?
07:46 PM CloudEvil: Possibly, yes.
07:46 PM CloudEvil: Mostly.
07:47 PM veegee: what if the tail end slips?
07:47 PM veegee: That could be a disaster
07:47 PM veegee: that is, imagine the tail end is on ice. The thing would just slide off without the truck needing to move forward
07:57 PM CloudEvil: It's probbly got some means of pushing the bed out, and a winch to pull it with great force towards the cab under power.
08:47 PM seb_kuzm1nsky is now known as seb_kuzminsky
10:05 PM veegee: https://www.amazon.com/HEYMOUS-Polishing-Cylinder-Electric-Accessories/dp/B07RWBMKGG what are these made of?
10:05 PM veegee: I love them. They polish _anything_ nice and evenly since the rubbery material helps to form around the part
10:07 PM veegee: I'm contemplating making a lathe toolpost grinder for "live tooling" using a CNC router spindle
10:07 PM Tom_L: says made of rubber
