12:51 AM CaptHindsight: veegee: they used to respond quickly to emails or calls
01:55 AM Deejay: moin
04:09 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
12:23 PM * Tom_L blames the weather
12:23 PM jthornton: lol
12:23 PM jthornton: someone asked me a question while in linux now I'm on windblows and can't see it
12:24 PM jthornton: I guess I can switch back to linux
12:27 PM _unreal_: did a first test with lightburn ME LIKIEEEE
12:29 PM jthornton: perry_j1987: I use a dowel to set Z and put a dowel in the collet to set X and Y0 is usually the front face of the rear vise jaw
12:30 PM jthornton: Z is lowered to below the top of the dowel and while pushing the dowel I raise Z until the dowel just passes under and set Z
12:31 PM Tom_L: the other one you missed was a noob with a grounding problem
12:31 PM Tom_L: dremel spindle. say no more
12:31 PM jthornton: say no more...
01:27 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest31272
01:34 PM roycroft: one of my favorite radio stations have gone back to in-studio djs today, for the first time in over a year
01:35 PM roycroft: i hope the djs who haven't been on during the pandemic because they have no home studios will come back
01:46 PM Tom_L: one here i was getting to like went off air for almost a year due to a lawsuit
01:46 PM Tom_L: it's just not the same now
01:48 PM Tom_L: you really _should_ pay the rent when it's due...
01:57 PM unterhaus: for some reason, we have an overrepresentation of country stations here. I don't thing either the town population or the students listen to country
03:01 PM _unreal_: doing my first grayscale raster burn
03:02 PM _unreal_: be done in an hour
03:02 PM _unreal_: :)
03:02 PM _unreal_: cant wait
04:15 PM veegee: All washrooms should have floor drains
04:15 PM veegee: all industrial units should have floor drains
04:15 PM veegee: Would make cleaning fun with a pressure washer. Just blast everything with a hot water pressure washer
04:16 PM Tom_L: yeah push all those shop contaminates right down the drain
04:17 PM Tom_L: maybe i'll finally upgrade the mill to 2.8 this evening
04:18 PM Tom_L: i think i fixed all the config files back when i was testing the rpi4 on it
04:32 PM veegee: Tom_L LOL ok good point
04:32 PM veegee: but there's nothing toxic here
04:32 PM veegee: just metal chips that won't get through a mesh strainer
04:33 PM veegee: I'm contemplating if it's worth replacing the lathe's spndle motor with a 3kW servo
04:33 PM veegee: At the very least, it's getting a VFD replacement for low speed stability
04:34 PM veegee: I know you can just put an encoder on the spindle for CNC threading and stuff like that
04:34 PM XXCoder: so all your cncs and lathes run dry? no oil, no coolant?
04:34 PM veegee: But is there any advantage to having a servo for precise control?
04:35 PM veegee: XXCoder yeah no coolant, just slide way oil
04:35 PM XXCoder: ah just fun oil going in drains
04:35 PM veegee: which is pretty benign
04:35 PM veegee: well obviously I'm not going to wash down my machine tools
04:35 PM veegee: that's just begging for rust
04:35 PM XXCoder: not too bad but theres chips of all sizes. tiny ones will go in
04:37 PM veegee: Now that you mention coolant, I'm actually going to try it for the first time ever. The lathe has a coolant pump and nozzle and it never occurred to me to use it, even as I was getting bombarded with insanely hot chips of cast iron
04:41 PM Tom_L: how many use your shop?
05:32 PM veegee: Tom_L just me like 80% of the time
05:33 PM veegee: and a friend just to split the rent costs but he barely uses any space and does mostly woodworking
05:33 PM veegee: in a corner that's mostly enclosed and has dust collectors
05:36 PM veegee: Netflix's Love Death + Robots best episodes: Zima Blue, Beyond the Aquila Rift, Sonnie's Edge
08:17 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:29 PM jthornton: off to Reserve La in the morning
09:30 PM Tom_L: makin your rounds
09:31 PM jthornton: yup
09:31 PM Tom_L: do the chickens get mad when you're gone?
09:32 PM jthornton: I'll have to ask when I get back, I've never been gone for the Cinnamon Queens, the Rhode Island Reds are pretty laid back at 4 years old
09:37 PM Tom_L: not a very big town
09:38 PM Tom_L: you take 90 to 10 across?
09:38 PM jthornton: 290 to 10
09:39 PM Tom_L: good luck goin thru houston
09:41 PM Tom_L: i forget which loop we take but we try to avoid the center
09:42 PM jthornton: my brother is a trucker and would take 290 to 10 in the early morning to save time
09:42 PM jthornton: 610 is the loop
09:43 PM Tom_L: yes that's what i was getting ready to say
10:26 PM mrec_: is G70/71/72 available with linuxcnc 2.8?
10:27 PM Tom_L: no
10:27 PM Tom_L: what do they do?
10:28 PM Tom_L: G71 - lathe roughing cycle
10:28 PM Tom_L: G72 - lathe facing cycle
10:29 PM Tom_L: G70 - finishing cycle
10:29 PM Tom_L: also lathe?
10:29 PM Tom_L: looks that way
