01:26 AM Deejay: moin
01:36 AM veegee: Fucking canada geese
01:36 AM veegee: it pecked me in the shin and drew blood
01:36 AM veegee: Now it's on
01:37 AM veegee: I had to get stuff out of my car so I brought my bug-a-salt shot gun with me. But the feathers it has are so thick it probably won't even feel it
01:37 AM veegee: I shot it, it was like shooing a pillow
01:38 AM veegee: It tried pecking my shin again. I gave it a solid kick right in the chest and punted it across the parking lot
01:38 AM veegee: It won't be trying that shit again
01:42 AM veegee: If it does, it's probably leaving that fight with broken bones
01:50 AM ve7it: roast goose... mmmmm
02:11 AM veegee: pcw_home does the http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=74_80&product_id=320 ribbon cable come with the female connectors?
02:56 AM veroski: good morning, i have little problem. i have servo system and use mesa 7i97. when i home x axis i would like the machine first find the micro in one direction, than once touched the motor it rotates in other direction and find the zero mark of the encoder. With my setup axis find 2 times the micro and only then find the zero mark of encoder.
02:58 AM veroski: so i would like to use the first solution. is there any parameter to modify in file.ini?
04:05 AM mrec_: CNC lathe is something very nice
05:55 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:04 AM JT-Cave: WOW 7/16" x 4 x 8 OSB is $55 a sheet
06:43 AM miss0r2: Hey JT. I've made a proper spare wheel mount on the back of my landy: https://imgur.com/a/MjDfCZF
06:59 AM Tom_L: morning
07:01 AM Tom_L: so much for any construction jobs here
07:01 AM JT-Cave: be cheaper to make it from titanium I think
07:03 AM JT-Cave: you see a bunch of houses that are roofed but not finished here
07:03 AM Tom_L: i've driven by new construction here and the workers are working
07:04 AM Tom_L: walls may be sheeted with newspaper and mud for all i know though...
07:05 AM Tom_L: wonder if the price of your newspaper has quadrupled yet...
07:06 AM Tom_L: pretty soon we'll be living in grass huts again )
07:07 AM JT-Cave: druggies will be tearing down houses to get osb to sell on the black market
07:08 AM JT-Cave: I've been failing to make a simple nest to hold this part https://gnipsel.com/files/telsa/FSC%20Welded%20Overmolded%20Asm.stp for a few days now
07:09 AM XXCoder: if news papers quadipled the price they will finally collipse and no more newspapers
07:09 AM Tom_L: at least maybe they'll think twice before they set fire to them
07:09 AM JT-Cave: just need to support the rim in a block of delrin 12x18x2
07:09 AM XXCoder: jt forbidden
07:09 AM Tom_L: forbidden
07:09 AM XXCoder: fruit
07:09 AM JT-Cave: stupid permissions
07:10 AM JT-Cave: prob need to right click and save as I think the permissions are fixed now
07:11 AM XXCoder: what opens stp anyway
07:11 AM Tom_L: i just get a txt file
07:11 AM Tom_L: i don't think i have anything to open it
07:11 AM JT-Cave: it's a step file
07:11 AM XXCoder: oh
07:11 AM JT-Cave: catia opens it without issues
07:11 AM XXCoder: freecad can opne it i thinkj
07:12 AM Tom_L: i don't have catia on this
07:12 AM Tom_L: we'll see what sw does
07:13 AM XXCoder: yep freecad loaded it
07:13 AM XXCoder: wow thats very low profile
07:13 AM XXCoder: and hollow
07:13 AM XXCoder: damn thats hella complex shape
07:13 AM Tom_L: i shouldnt even be trying to open it on this slow pc
07:14 AM XXCoder: air or fluid of some kind?
07:14 AM JT-Cave: air conditioner for seat
07:14 AM XXCoder: interesting
07:15 AM XXCoder: make in 2 parts then edges fuse?
07:17 AM JT-Cave: ultrasonic welded together
07:17 AM XXCoder: nice
07:17 AM Tom_L: did i mention i hate step files
07:17 AM Tom_L: 2004 is still processing it
07:18 AM JT-Cave: import diagnostics seem to fail to fix errors in sw 14
07:18 AM JT-Cave: interesting that fc opens it fine
07:26 AM Tom_L: make the bottom profile on a fixture then vacuum fixture it
07:26 AM Tom_L: after you cut the bottom
07:26 AM JT-Cave: the nest is just to hold the part while an person attaches some double stick tape and the foam sheet
07:26 AM JT-Cave: the nest just positions the part and the sheet for assembly
07:26 AM XXCoder: model looks complete but maybe theres issues
07:26 AM Tom_L: so you just need that profile cut in a "mold" part fixture?
07:27 AM JT-Cave: if you can make it a solid file
07:28 AM JT-Cave: seems when you import a step file you can never end up with a sldprt but you have a part with an import
07:28 AM Tom_L: how did you end up getting a step file?
07:28 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/files/telsa/PI121750_332589_20200818_TESLA_M3SX_FSC_WHVS_FOAM.stp.zip
07:28 AM JT-Cave: that's the complete part
07:28 AM JT-Cave: from the customer
07:29 AM JT-Cave: well from the customers sister company's customer
07:29 AM Tom_L: i knew i shouldn't have slept in today :)
07:29 AM Tom_L: they can't give you an iges?
07:29 AM JT-Cave: me too
07:30 AM Tom_L: it would work alot better
07:30 AM Tom_L: did you bring it in catia?
07:30 AM Tom_L: if you export from catia as an iges to SW see what that does
07:31 AM Tom_L: catia's iges is better than sw
07:31 AM JT-Cave: ok I'll try that
07:31 AM Tom_L: otherwise i'm gonna have to put some pants on
07:32 AM JT-Cave: but there's more to the story... my buddy tells me that the cad program they use the company is gone and they had a computer issue and when they tried to reload it tells them the trial period is over
07:32 AM Tom_L: it's still never gonna be a good solid like you want but it might be workable
07:32 AM JT-Cave: don't want you to have to do that
07:32 AM Tom_L: step is a bitch to work with
07:33 AM Tom_L: so you're telling me this is all they can provide you?
07:33 AM Tom_L: due to their cad issue
07:34 AM JT-Cave: normally they could do the job but the cad issue is stopping them... they have 2 seats of 2021 sw but they don't know how to use it
07:34 AM Tom_L: yeah it's got a different front end
07:34 AM JT-Cave: and their IT guy is having a time trying to install sw cad which is free now
07:35 AM Tom_L: all windowsish
07:36 AM Tom_L: lemme see if i can get catia to open
07:36 AM JT-Cave: k
07:37 AM * Tom_L tries to wake his brain up
07:48 AM Tom_L: ok catia is processing it
07:49 AM Tom_L: doesn't like the step file
07:51 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, did you ever load 2015 sw?
07:52 AM Tom_L: it just crashed anyway
07:53 AM JT-Cave: no
07:57 AM Tom_L: trying sw once more
07:58 AM Tom_L: ok 15 brought it in finally
07:59 AM Tom_L: yeah i see it's hollow now 2004 didn't show that
08:27 AM _unreal_: just tested my pendent control for my laser etcher. its just a dumb pendent only for controlling the speed of the twin fans and the air compressor. there are still extra wires I ran so I could add more features if desired. but I wouldnt have much space on the thing its tiny
08:27 AM _unreal_: Tom_L, I tried loading that step file. couldnt get it to load
08:27 AM _unreal_: then again I didnt try using fusion360
08:28 AM Tom_L: i got it loaded
09:01 AM * JT-Cave goes to try and buy a new refrigerator...
09:05 AM Tom_L: fridge still on the fritz?
09:13 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:11 AM jymmmm: Please, take this with a grain of salt, but some of the medical info is interesting and opens up other questions... https://rumble.com/vgzfxn-doctor-christiane-northrup-what-is-really-in-the-covid-vaccinations.html
10:29 AM W1N9Zr0: "Christiane Northrup is a board certified obstetrics and gynaecology physician and author who has embraced pseudoscientific alternative medicine. She has a history of opposing vaccination and has embraced QAnon ideology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Northrup reaches a significant audience through popular books and multiple social media platforms."
10:29 AM W1N9Zr0: sounds legit
10:35 AM sensille: "to hook you up on crypto currencies"
10:36 AM jymmmm: sensille: And it's patented by the Gates Foundation, that's the scary part to me.
10:36 AM veegee: JT-Cave why buy OSB when plywood is just so much better?
10:37 AM jymmmm: W1N9Zr0: That I'm not sure about either, but the med info is interesting, she does cite sources.
10:37 AM jymmmm: veegee: Playwood is hellva expensive
10:37 AM jymmmm: plywood*
10:38 AM W1N9Zr0: video is hosted on nazi-youtube, how much more legitimate can it get?
10:38 AM veegee: jymmmm https://www.homedepot.ca/product/purebond-3-4-inch-x-4-feet-x-8-feet-sanded-aspen-plywood/1000861471
10:38 AM veegee: that's a lot thicker and $64 CAD
10:39 AM jymmmm: W1N9Zr0: Thus the "take with a grain of salt" disclaimer
10:39 AM sensille: or a bag
10:39 AM veegee: lumber is getting more expensive, but I guess it's getting WAAAAYYYYY more expensive in trumpland
10:40 AM veegee: looks like mild-moderate increase in prices in Canada
10:40 AM veegee: I have no idea why though. If I open up google maps, the vast majority of Ontario is covered in trees and that makes more land area than several of trumpland states
10:43 AM sensille: jymmmm: did you look at the patent? at a first glance i don't see the connection
10:44 AM sensille: although it looks weird
10:44 AM sensille: WO2020060606
10:44 AM sensille: anyway, i'm still glad i got my first shot already
10:48 AM veegee: "I met a gentleman that had a very different accident... he had an outer mower blade on a 3-blade deck... break off. The broken segment went through the 1/8" steel deck, fly 300', puncture a hole through his house, and kill his son."
10:48 AM veegee: lol no that didn't happen
10:49 AM veegee: (I'm hard facing my blades)
11:06 AM veegee: god damn the people on forums like this are all so clueless https://www.shopfloortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=f478bdcb3b3e9f1ff6dc3e6c77d1da2d&t=224&page=2
11:06 AM veegee: > One thing I have done that helps a little on life. File (never use a power grinder you will anneal [soften] the blade)
11:06 AM veegee: wut?
11:07 AM veegee: just.. no
11:16 AM veegee: > We have had good luck hard facing Schulte mower blades. Much heavier, though. Roughly 1/2" thick for 42' (feet, not inches) wide mower. What we found is that the hard facing needs to go on the flat (bottom) side of the blade just behind the cutting edge. The beveled upper edge will wear back to the hard facing and then it will maintain an edge. The first ones, we hit the bevel with HF rod. They wore
11:16 AM veegee: into a hard, dull edge.
11:17 AM veegee: First useful comment out of all the dumbass posts I've had to read.
02:38 PM CaptHindsight: veegee: you think that is bad try #reprap or most automotive forums
02:57 PM JavaBean: when you go into #reprap your first thing should be #reprap?
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/14/22436072/china-tianwen-1-mars-landing-zhurong-rover see they can build things that actually work well
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: JavaBean: anyone making a 3D printer using the Opi's and the internal micro yet? Sounds like a kickstarter to me.
03:20 PM veegee: What are common automotive brake rotors made of?
03:20 PM veegee: I thought it was cast iron
03:20 PM veegee: It eats my HSS lathe tools though
03:20 PM veegee: Carbide inserts don't seem to be affected at all
03:21 PM veegee: Now I'm getting worried about my lathe'
03:21 PM veegee: lathe's slideways
03:22 PM JavaBean: i thought brake rotors were a very hard/brittle steel "face" that was "bonded" to cast iron body
03:23 PM JavaBean: can't think of the RIGHT terms right now tho, trying to get my home services back after whatever happened last night
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: veegee: used rotors have been hardened
03:25 PM veegee: CaptHindsight damn, that's the answer
03:25 PM veegee: Once I got past the top layer, it gets a bit softer
03:26 PM veegee: I'm repurposing them as bases for grinder pedestals, things like that
03:27 PM veegee: CaptHindsight so for the next batch, I should be able to anneal them in my oven right?
03:28 PM veegee: anneal?/normalize?
03:33 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.tirereview.com/carbon-ceramic-rotors-boast-many-advantages-and-a-high-price-tag/
03:35 PM buzzmarshall: cast iron has more carbon then normal steel so its harder but more brittle but typically brake rotors and drums are cast
03:36 PM buzzmarshall: steel rotors are software and wear faster
03:36 PM buzzmarshall: but their lighter
03:36 PM buzzmarshall: sorry softer... not software, brain fart
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/fltcp2y.jpg this weekends project getting the rest of the body to match the jambs
03:51 PM roycroft: i have to replace the driver's side door on my pickup
03:51 PM roycroft: i have the new door
03:51 PM roycroft: i just hate hate hate doing that kind of work
03:52 PM roycroft: but i'm also tired of having to use the passenger door to get in and out of the vehicle
03:52 PM roycroft: i don't mind doing fabrication work for the shop, but i seriously dislike doing anything resembling automotive body work
03:56 PM CaptHindsight: I had not for >10 years, so it's not too bad right now
03:56 PM pcw_home: Ha! got the last gopher in our garden (N3) this was a tough one, filled the trap with dirt about 4 times, trick was using walnuts as bait
03:56 PM CaptHindsight: I have 2 more cars to repaint and Ill be done with bodywork until after 2030
03:57 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: 1, gophers: 0 !!
03:57 PM CaptHindsight: sorry pcw_home:3, gophers:0
03:58 PM pcw_home: so far, the are endemic here so just a matter of time before another invades the garden area
03:58 PM skunkworks: pcw_home: Do stepgens have to be in pin number order? Or can you have a few on one plug and on on an other?
03:58 PM skunkworks: *one on an other
03:59 PM skunkworks: I feel like english is hard for me today
03:59 PM pcw_home: They are _enabled_ in a 0..N fashion that's the only limitation
04:00 PM pcw_home: you can have pretty much any pinout you like including duplicate outputs
04:00 PM skunkworks: ok - so they can be anyware - They just are enabled in sequence.
04:01 PM skunkworks: ok. I might need a bit file for the green machine with an extra stepgen on p1. But I have to figure out what pins I have open.
04:01 PM pcw_home: The 0..n enable limitation is just in the driver (to simplify the command line)
04:12 PM pcw_home: The gopher was really fat (pregnant?) Released about 400 feet away down the hill
04:56 PM drdoc: morning all
04:56 PM skunkworks: sure - that would certainly be a bit more complicated to setup
04:57 PM drdoc: pcw_home: is that far enough to keep it from getting home?
05:01 PM drdoc: roycroft: I just set up a 17" 1280x1024 ELO with minimal pain
05:01 PM drdoc: however.
05:02 PM drdoc: 20-23" TS all-in-one Dell & HP desktops have gotten *cheap*
05:03 PM drdoc: if I were starting without the existing computer I'd have gone that route
05:09 PM drdoc: pcw_home: one of the way-too-wealthy suburbs here created their own deer problem
05:09 PM drdoc: residents were spreading corn in their backyards to watch them
05:10 PM drdoc: when residents [predictably] started getting gored and too-tame deer started stopping traffic for hours,
05:11 PM drdoc: the city started *airlifting* them.
05:12 PM drdoc: Trank the deer, throw a sling under it, pay a helicopter to move it 20+ miles
05:15 PM drdoc: literally every step of that anecdote just made me weep.
05:15 PM drdoc: The encore was even better though
05:16 PM drdoc: the airlift contract got brother-in-lawed and the BiL soon figured out that the township wasn't tagging his passengers
05:17 PM drdoc: so 20+ miles became just out of earshot and the deer were coming right back home within days
05:22 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:36 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest30677
05:43 PM JT-Shop: pcw_home, I had a hard time catching a groundhog until I used cantaloupe guts
05:45 PM pcw_home: Not that I have noticed, They don't go on the surface much at all (hawks/cats/owls)
05:47 PM drdoc: pcw_home: the second encore to that story is the best of all
05:47 PM drdoc: a county-wide referendum on whether euthanizing the problem animals was "ethical and fair"
05:49 PM drdoc: my mom & dad live in a community built around an old pecan plantation that ended up with the same problems
05:50 PM drdoc: every fall the deer move in in droves for the pecan drops
05:51 PM drdoc: a few years ago the community voted near-unanimously to net trap them
05:52 PM drdoc: a couple of local hunter-oriented meat processors donate services and the local food bank gets 500-2000lb of prime venison a year
05:54 PM drdoc: my pop claims the total cost to the community, without figuring in reduced deer damage, is about $0.30/lb
05:55 PM pcw_home: We have occasional deer here but they don't do any significant damage
05:56 PM drdoc: the main damage in the local burb was traffic accidents - several a day during rut
05:56 PM drdoc: 2-3 gorings a year
05:57 PM drdoc: the idjits never stopped chumming them
05:57 PM pcw_home: Need a big fine
05:58 PM drdoc: that township's council is so inbred you expect to see a third eye somewhere
05:58 PM drdoc: the people setting fines were mostly the ones chumming
05:59 PM pcw_home: Our sheep will do more damage to unprotected trees etc, deer kind of browse here and there, the sheep will chew the bark off of fruit trees and kill them
06:00 PM drdoc: yeah
06:00 PM jymmmm: pcw_home: post pics of lamp chops all around the trees
06:00 PM drdoc: rofl
06:00 PM pcw_home: might be instinctual: Make grasslands out of forests
06:01 PM drdoc: I've lived through a couple of droughts and the blacktail invasion
06:01 PM drdoc: Active wildlife mamagement is not optional.
06:02 PM drdoc: We've altered the ecosystem and we actively maintain those changes
06:02 PM pcw_home: Not much food now so our sheep are eating all the flowers off of the thistles funny to watch how delicately they do it
06:03 PM drdoc: sheep are a wonderful example of insticnt without intelligence
06:04 PM pcw_home: Sheep are actually quite intelligent (probably close to dogs or pigs)
06:04 PM drdoc: really?
06:04 PM pcw_home: Yes
06:05 PM drdoc: I haven't been around them enough to know, I guess, but my limited experience is that they're slightly smarter than a chicken
06:06 PM drdoc: goats, otoh
06:06 PM pcw_home: Much smarter look up "sheep intelligence"
06:07 PM drdoc: I'll do that
06:07 PM drdoc: "TIL"
06:09 PM pcw_home: They are very visual, remembering other sheep and human faces for years
06:10 PM pcw_home: I taught them simple hand signals in a few days
06:10 PM roycroft: i just picked up a stall mat to go underneath my woodworking bench
06:11 PM roycroft: i have some smaller ones that i was using in front of the bench, but they tended to move around, and i had to be careful not to get them in front of the vise, as there's not enough clearance for it to open
06:11 PM pcw_home: hopefully new
06:11 PM drdoc: pcw_home: that's quite cool
06:11 PM roycroft: so i had to move the bench to install the stall mat
06:11 PM roycroft: i had forgotten how heavy that thing is
06:11 PM drdoc: right?
06:11 PM roycroft: it's the first time i've moved it since i built it
06:11 PM pcw_home: the ones made of old tires?
06:12 PM roycroft: if you're referring to the stall mat, it is new, and it is the type that's made of old ground up tires
06:12 PM roycroft: which are the best mats to use in shops
06:13 PM roycroft: the stall mat is pretty heavy, too - 4'x7'
06:13 PM roycroft: the bench was especially hard to move back onto the stall mat, as the mat is rubber, and i've glued crubber pads on the bottoms of the bench legs
06:14 PM roycroft: rubber on rubber grips pretty darn well
06:15 PM * roycroft is just catching his breath before putting the rest of the shop back together
06:23 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, the basic outside dimensions are 9.125" x 14"
06:24 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: are the Ethernet stepper boards out of stock? https://forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/42414-linuxcnc-esp32-software-stepping-over-ethernet-using-esp32#208987
06:26 PM pcw_home: We were out of stock of 7I96s for a while but they are back in stock
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: are you having problems sourcing anything lately?
06:28 PM CaptHindsight: some microcontrollers have 6-12 month lead times
06:33 PM pcw_home: Yes its difficult, no issue with FPGA's though (except price increases)
06:34 PM pcw_home: had to search long an hard for some DSPICs and switching power supply chips
06:37 PM XXCoder: stupidly dangerous but funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1vriaAncQo
06:39 PM JT-Cave: drdoc, some of my chickens are pretty smart and some know their name and will come when called
06:51 PM roycroft: chickens are smart enough to not try to eat barbed wire
06:51 PM roycroft: goats, otoh
06:51 PM XXCoder: crows is best species on earth to try as "alien contact"
06:52 PM XXCoder: as they seem to be smart enough to puzzle things out
06:56 PM roycroft: the world meteorological organization have announced that greek letters will no longer be used to name hurricanes after the standard list runs out in a busy hurricane season
06:56 PM roycroft: the reason?
06:56 PM roycroft: after last year, when several were used, they determined that using greek letters confuses people because all the letters sound the same
06:57 PM roycroft: 'beta', 'eta', and 'theta' sound exactly the same, don't they?
06:57 PM roycroft: but 'cee', 'dee', 'ee', 'gee', and 'tee', all sound completely different
06:59 PM JT-Cave: gee I don't think I cee what your talking about
07:01 PM XXCoder: sounds is nearly totally alien concept to me
07:03 PM roycroft: i think a good argument could be made to retire them because we try not to have hurricanes with the same name in successive years, hence the rotating list, and with the general increase in hurricane activity, it's more likely that we'll run out of standard list names in consecutive years than previously
07:03 PM JT-Cave: I can't even imagine what your world is like
07:04 PM roycroft: but retiring them because people are too stupid to be able to discern zeta from theta is a poor reflection on humanity in general
07:04 PM JT-Cave: well we are in a dumb down mode now
07:04 PM roycroft: yes
07:04 PM roycroft: people take pride in their stupidity these days
07:04 PM roycroft: it's a badge of honor to be utterly clueless
07:05 PM JT-Cave: I respect the street hawker selling newspapers to get by but people who sit on street corners with cardboard signs not so much
07:06 PM XXCoder: current problems arise from people saying that their ignorance is equal to person in professin knowledge
07:06 PM roycroft: a lot of those people make a lot more money sitting on street corners with cardboard signs than they would working at mcdonald's for $7.50/hour
07:07 PM JT-Cave: $11/hour now here anyway
07:07 PM roycroft: if we paid everyone a living wage there would be less incentive for some of those folks to panhandle
07:07 PM XXCoder: 13.50 here
07:07 PM XXCoder: some cities, 15
07:07 PM roycroft: a lot of the cardboard sign people are drug addicts or have mental health problems
07:07 PM JT-Cave: panhandlers are lazy
07:08 PM JT-Cave: and that too
07:08 PM roycroft: society does not care about those people and does not want to help them
07:08 PM XXCoder: roy yep it used to be case where you could have college for year by working in summers
07:08 PM XXCoder: now its couple working full time just to barely afford house
07:08 PM XXCoder: and both NOT minium wage
07:08 PM roycroft: hardly anyone can afford to buy a house these days
07:08 PM JT-Cave: well that went out the window
07:09 PM XXCoder: jt i wouldnt label all panhandlers lazy
07:09 PM pcw_home: Median home price here is >1e6
07:09 PM JT-Cave: menards osb $55 a sheet
07:09 PM XXCoder: most have issues they are trying to solve
07:09 PM JT-Cave: ouch
07:09 PM roycroft: i need to head to market for some food
07:09 PM XXCoder: only small percentage is actually just lazy
07:09 PM roycroft: i hope i don't get accosted again
07:10 PM roycroft: some guy almost got physical with me at the post office today, because i wore a mask inside the building
07:10 PM XXCoder: jeez
07:10 PM XXCoder: here no problems at all
07:10 PM roycroft: because the mask mandate for federal buildings is still on, and there were signs posted at the door saying masks are required
07:10 PM XXCoder: just few nose exposed, and rarer maskbeards
07:10 PM XXCoder: i just am glad i dont live at east washington state
07:10 PM roycroft: the maga people are feeling emboldened again
07:11 PM roycroft: when i went to buy my stall mat today at the farm supply place, i got flipped off by a not mask wearing young punk
07:11 PM roycroft: he didn't say anything to me, but he flipped me off
07:11 PM roycroft: his tee shirt said "suck my dick and tell me i'm good looking", and he had a red maga hat on
07:11 PM XXCoder: that guy probably have white pointed mask in closet
07:12 PM roycroft: i'll continue to wear a mask where i'm asked to
07:12 PM XXCoder: me too
07:12 PM roycroft: i'm already at a point where i'm somewhat afraid to when i don't have to, which is really sad
07:12 PM XXCoder: im fulluy vaccined but ill just keep masking up
07:12 PM JT-Cave: geez, that's pretty brazen... I think in Missouri he'd get his ass kicked bad
07:13 PM roycroft: if i owned a store and someone came in with a shirt saying that i'd ask the person to leave
07:13 PM roycroft: i would not react to the maga hat
07:13 PM roycroft: not externally
07:13 PM XXCoder: me, i would return it by having hand somewhat near crotch then have strunking motion with 2 fingers
07:13 PM roycroft: but i'd put my gaurd up
07:13 PM XXCoder: guy will get idea
07:13 PM roycroft: guard
07:13 PM XXCoder: or do same but near head
07:13 PM roycroft: i ignored him
07:14 PM roycroft: those people are looking for reactions
07:14 PM roycroft: they're kind of like veegee - they go out of their way to push people's buttons
07:14 PM XXCoder: laughing probably are not what reaction they are looking for
07:14 PM XXCoder: i would laugh and slap knee and go on
07:15 PM roycroft: the problem is, if you react and it's not the reaction they want, they might get physical
07:15 PM veegee: LOL
07:15 PM JT-Cave: yeah my mom taught me to never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and win with experience
07:15 PM XXCoder: jt theres this saying
07:15 PM veegee: Only _some_ people
07:15 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm off to market, and i hope it will be uneventful
07:15 PM XXCoder: dont wrestle with pig. you will get muddy and pig will like it
07:15 PM XXCoder: roy good luck :)
07:15 PM JT-Cave: about the same
07:15 PM veegee: Some people are just plain fun
07:16 PM veegee: Some people get me, some don't. Either way, I mean no harm
07:16 PM XXCoder: jt i wonder if that young punk called tty line to try cut into line
07:16 PM XXCoder: like vee here did
07:17 PM JT-Cave: well I don't see his comments
07:17 PM veegee: omg for the last time, that caused zero harm or inconvenience
07:17 PM XXCoder: me either, i just ignore assholes
07:17 PM JT-Cave: aye, my time is not worth reading their comments
07:17 PM XXCoder: yeah. i bet vee also parks at disabled parking lots too
07:18 PM XXCoder: because its just 10 minutes man
07:18 PM XXCoder: no harm in that right? hah
07:18 PM veegee: dude
07:18 PM JT-Cave: I had a ah block me in one time and I just pushed his car out in the parking lot with my truck
07:18 PM veegee: There's a system that puts you in line with other calls
07:19 PM XXCoder: geez dont that destroy car?
07:19 PM JT-Cave: nah it just hops up and down on the locked tire
07:19 PM JT-Cave: or skids
07:20 PM XXCoder: pushing by front or back?
07:20 PM JT-Cave: I was behind him and he backed up within inches of me blocking me in
07:20 PM XXCoder: ahh parallel parrking
07:21 PM JT-Cave: aye
07:21 PM XXCoder: jeez yeah some people do that
07:21 PM JT-Cave: yeah I can only imagine he/she/it's thoughts when the car was out it the middle of the parking lot
07:23 PM XXCoder: closest thing like that tha happened to me is that time when i had car with only one working door key
07:23 PM XXCoder: it was stolen a year before that time
07:24 PM XXCoder: so someone parked very very close to passager side
07:24 PM XXCoder: and it wasnt parking spot but no park area
07:24 PM XXCoder: thats why i parked there
07:24 PM XXCoder: so i just shuffled in and opened door. i didnt bother to be careful with it, but no banging
07:24 PM XXCoder: barely could get in to unlock driver side
07:26 PM XXCoder: im just glad i was very flexable that time lol
07:28 PM XXCoder: man my car was so annoying to deal with back then
07:28 PM XXCoder: its first and 4th gear was kinda borken so sometimes i cant go faster than 35 mph in freeway trying to speed up randomly to try to get it to kick over to 4th
07:29 PM XXCoder: and sometimes it simply dont enage on first gear so it dont move for short time
07:29 PM XXCoder: i laughed so hard when it was stolen, and later found just a mile away
07:29 PM JT-Cave: automatic?
07:29 PM XXCoder: guy probably couldnt get it to enage, not knowing how
07:29 PM XXCoder: yep
07:30 PM XXCoder: it was pretty shitty condition toyata
07:30 PM JT-Cave: couch time for me... chicken bedtime in an hour
07:31 PM XXCoder: it couldnt really climb hills. for 3 years i sped up one hill to go to college. got stuck in middle once. barely could get it to go again, and only very slowly
07:42 PM roycroft: i'd hate to work in a store right now
07:42 PM roycroft: i had no personal problems at the market, but i'd say 1/4 of the people were unmasked
07:43 PM roycroft: the signs are still up at the doors saying masks are required, and there are still store personnel reminding unmasked people that they need a mask and offering them one
07:43 PM roycroft: as i was going in an unmasked lady entered, and when told she needs a mask shouted "fuck you! this is a free country again, starting now!"
07:44 PM roycroft: i'm sure that's not the only time that has happened today
07:44 PM roycroft: i live in such a weird town
07:44 PM roycroft: people are either ultra woke or ultra maga
07:45 PM XXCoder: i go to winco at 12 am, 99% of people is masked, only few nose exposed and maskbeards
07:45 PM roycroft: winco is the least-masked store around here
07:45 PM roycroft: or was, during the height of the pandemic
07:45 PM XXCoder: ouch lol
07:45 PM roycroft: i stopped going there
07:46 PM roycroft: for one thing, it's really not cheaper than the regular markets, because i get 6% of on groceries when i use my amex card, and winco don't take amex
07:46 PM roycroft: so i have to add 6% to the cost of everything there
07:46 PM XXCoder: i go there because they have best stuff
07:46 PM XXCoder: most stores here is fairly crappy
07:46 PM roycroft: and it takes a half hour to check out there
07:47 PM XXCoder: funny because its big city tacoma
07:47 PM roycroft: there are a lot of people of color in tacoma
07:47 PM XXCoder: and?
07:47 PM roycroft: supermarkets do not like to open stores where there are people of color
07:48 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:48 PM roycroft: it's a pretty serious problem, and a big reason for the high rates of diabetes amongst the african-american community
07:48 PM roycroft: if your choices of grocery stores are 7-11 and circle k, you're not going to get very healthful food
07:48 PM XXCoder: yeah we do have many different food stores here though
07:48 PM XXCoder: just that most is meh
07:49 PM XXCoder: i will never go to walmart. ever
07:49 PM roycroft: i shop at albertsons for the daily stuff, and at couple natural foods stores for most other things
07:49 PM XXCoder: even if they have free cash handout day
07:49 PM roycroft: i make a trip to the asian market a couple times/month
07:49 PM roycroft: i've only been to a walmart once, and that was in 1994
07:49 PM roycroft: in north dakota
07:50 PM roycroft: i used to buy some groceries at fred meyer, but they are dead to me now
07:51 PM XXCoder: fm isnt great but why you wont go?
07:51 PM roycroft: a year or so ago i bought groceries there, paid with a debit card and needed $5
07:51 PM roycroft: so i added $5 cash back
07:51 PM roycroft: and they charged me $2 for the cash back
07:51 PM roycroft: without telling me ahead of time
07:52 PM XXCoder: ouch
07:52 PM roycroft: when i went to the manager she told me she could not legally refund me the money
07:52 PM roycroft: which was a lie
07:52 PM roycroft: and i told her that
07:52 PM roycroft: and told her that case i want to return everything i bought, and have her just cancel the entire transaction
07:53 PM roycroft: she said she was not going to argue with me, and that if i don't like it i can shop elsewhere
07:53 PM roycroft: so after 40 years of shopping at fred meyer, that was the last time i stepped foot in one of their stores
07:54 PM roycroft: when i can go camping again that's going to be tough, because in a lot of coastal towns, fred meyer is the only decent grocery store in town
07:54 PM roycroft: and if i'm honest, i did not escalate to corporate, so my beef is really with one manager at one store
07:54 PM XXCoder: that sucks :( man fee is huge
07:54 PM roycroft: but she was the face of the company
07:55 PM roycroft: yes
07:55 PM roycroft: and for 40 years the charge for cash back was $0
07:55 PM roycroft: it had just changed
07:55 PM drdoc: holy crap
07:55 PM drdoc: We just got our water bill for April
07:55 PM roycroft: if i had pushed it, i think i could have successfully argued that not only is it not illegal to refund a debit card, it's actually illegal to tack on charges like that without informing the customer up front
07:55 PM drdoc: $900
07:56 PM XXCoder: leak?
07:56 PM drdoc: yup
07:56 PM roycroft: when the cashier handed me my receipt i saw the charge immediately and disputed it
07:56 PM _unreal_: so got some good testing done on my laser etcher
07:56 PM drdoc: and the property manager is dragging their feet on providing documentation
07:56 PM roycroft: the cashier told me that after she closed the till she could do nothing, and i understood that
07:57 PM roycroft: which is why i went to customer service and got a manager
07:57 PM drdoc: my Spousal Equivalent is frantic
07:57 PM roycroft: anyway
07:57 PM roycroft: that's why fred meyer are dead to me now
07:57 PM _unreal_: drdoc, ?
07:57 PM XXCoder: yeah just not telling you new added charge thensimply refusing is just what
07:57 PM drdoc: _unreal_: shattered mains line on our side of the meter
07:57 PM roycroft: drdoc: my water utility will write those charges off if there's a leak
07:57 PM drdoc: 2gpm leak
07:58 PM roycroft: call the utility and ask them about it
07:58 PM drdoc: roycroft: ours too, with documentation
07:58 PM roycroft: they'll probably wait a month, to make sure your usage goes back down to normal
07:58 PM roycroft: but they won't make you pay it in the meantime
07:59 PM drdoc: prop management dragged ass getting a plumber out, and now they're dragging ass providing proof
07:59 PM XXCoder: dr its annoying how management demends you to instantly pay
07:59 PM roycroft: ooh
07:59 PM veegee: Carbide inserts have letter codes to identify types, but what about the holders?
07:59 PM XXCoder: but drags on paying you pack or doing anything at all tp help you
07:59 PM roycroft: my shaft bushing just arrived
07:59 PM drdoc: roycroft: oooo
07:59 PM veegee: like there's more than one way to hold a WNMG carbide insert
08:00 PM roycroft: i think i'm going to go test my grinder under load before i fire up the barbie
08:00 PM XXCoder: nice
08:00 PM drdoc: I just realized a few minutes ago I'll need a jackshaft to go 3ph on mine
08:00 PM drdoc: https://www.baldor.com/api/products/248-151TD/drawings/35LYG400
08:01 PM drdoc: or pay Baldor for their 3ph equiv.
08:01 PM drdoc: at either of those options, I might as well build my own
08:02 PM _unreal_: does anyone use lightburn for laser etching? or does anyone other then me have a laser etcher?
08:02 PM drdoc: or instead of going 3ph just gear it at the jackshaft
08:03 PM veegee: drdoc say again?
08:04 PM drdoc: veegee: I picked up a Baldor 248-151TD belt grinder last month
08:04 PM veegee: ah, what's the problem with it?
08:04 PM drdoc: it's got a *very* fast 110V 1ph motor, 1.5hp
08:05 PM XXCoder: nice! new andy video. captioned fully too
08:05 PM drdoc: I was hoping I could sub in a 2-3hp 3ph with VFD without a lot of hassle
08:05 PM veegee: drdoc ah yeah, I always go for 3 phase stuff
08:05 PM drdoc: but the motor needs a 6" stepped shaft
08:05 PM veegee: drdoc isn't it a regular NEMA motor?
08:05 PM drdoc: https://www.baldor.com/api/products/248-151TD/drawings/35LYG400
08:06 PM veegee: OR, find the equivalent 3 phase motor and swap the shafts?
08:06 PM veegee: the rotor should be exactly the same
08:06 PM roycroft: well that's going to be an after dinner or tomorrow project
08:07 PM roycroft: the bushing is way too long, and the key is a wee bit too thick
08:07 PM drdoc: roycroft: too long?
08:07 PM drdoc: way better than too short
08:07 PM roycroft: i can cut the bushing to size, but i don't have a belt grinder to dress up the end or thin the key
08:07 PM drdoc: how's the fit?
08:07 PM roycroft: so i'll have to do that by hand
08:07 PM roycroft: the fit of the bushing is perfect
08:07 PM roycroft: zero play
08:07 PM drdoc: supah!
08:07 PM roycroft: it's going to be a permanent fix
08:07 PM drdoc: that's excellent
08:07 PM roycroft: yes, i figured it would work out
08:07 PM XXCoder: nice
08:08 PM XXCoder: andy video btw https://youtu.be/otycJD_0478
08:08 PM roycroft: i'm going from 5/8" to 7/8", so it's 1/8" thick which is plenty thick
08:08 PM XXCoder: he does some lathe work fpor rotary thing
08:08 PM roycroft: and it's cnc turned inside and out, so i figured it would be a good fit
08:08 PM roycroft: but it's nice to confirm that
08:08 PM drdoc: veegee: for the price of a Baldor 3ph 56H, I could have a transfer shaft turned and build mounts
08:08 PM roycroft: i'm getting hungry, though, so it's time to fire up the barbie
08:09 PM drdoc: aw shit
08:09 PM veegee: drdoc craigslist/kijiji
08:09 PM drdoc: the overlords are gonna be chewing my ankles
08:09 PM veegee: I get all my 3 phase motors used for next to nothing
08:09 PM veegee: Sometimes free
08:10 PM drdoc: yeah, but i'd need a pretty specific motor to swap shafts
08:10 PM veegee: Any NEMA motor with the same frame should do. Just swap the shafts
08:10 PM roycroft: on craigslist, "3 phase" has gone from "i can't get rid of this" to "it's worth its weight in gold pressed latinum"
08:10 PM drdoc: ^^^^^
08:10 PM veegee: wait what?
08:10 PM veegee: when and why?
08:10 PM XXCoder: roy lol i bet because of covid too
08:10 PM roycroft: when cnc routers became a thing
08:10 PM drdoc: recently, and us
08:11 PM XXCoder: more time at home and need parts
08:11 PM veegee: CNC routers use non NEMA spindles
08:11 PM veegee: bench grinders, air compressors and all those things use big heavy NEMA motors
08:11 PM _unreal_: hum
08:11 PM drdoc: veegee: most sellers have zero clue
08:12 PM roycroft: a 3hp 3 phase motor used to be like $35 on cl
08:12 PM roycroft: now it's $300, and the same listing gets renewed over and over and over and over
08:12 PM XXCoder: sucks
08:12 PM XXCoder: they probably will trash it later
08:12 PM roycroft: i'd say this changed maybe 5-6 years ago
08:12 PM drdoc: and seriously, as much as I like this grinder, I could sell it for more than enoygh to build exactly what I want
08:12 PM veegee: in Toronto I'm still seeing lots of great prices for 3 phase motors
08:12 PM roycroft: that's when i started noticing 3 phase motors going way up
08:14 PM roycroft: it probably corresponds most closely with the rise of the huanyang dynasty
08:14 PM drdoc: roycroft: assuming I can get the welding done properly, do you think that Schmidt design would stand up in aluminum?
08:15 PM roycroft: no
08:15 PM drdoc: ok
08:16 PM roycroft: i think it would be strong enough
08:16 PM roycroft: but i think you would bang it up such that it would get sloppy
08:16 PM roycroft: it won't break
08:16 PM roycroft: but aluminium isn't hard enough for all the moving parts
08:17 PM roycroft: huanyang brought 3 phase to any hobby workshop for $100
08:17 PM drdoc: that's pretty much what I was asking. it looks like the pivots would wallow pretty fast
08:17 PM roycroft: that's why those motors went up, i'll bet
08:17 PM XXCoder: andypugh: excellent video!
08:17 PM veegee: roycroft YES and I am so thankful
08:17 PM veegee: no reason VFDs should be that expensive
08:17 PM veegee: I wish they had 480V/600V versions
08:17 PM drdoc: are Delta VFDs any good?
08:17 PM XXCoder: "you shouldnt use any file without handle, expecially on lathe" while using it that way ;)
08:17 PM roycroft: they do
08:18 PM roycroft: but you have to feed them 480v/600v
08:18 PM veegee: Right now, I have to put a 240-600V step up transformer for my 600V motors
08:18 PM veegee: Yeah I can do that
08:18 PM veegee: I just can't find the 480/600V VFDs!
08:18 PM roycroft: i've seen them before
08:18 PM veegee: The 240V ones are readily available on amazon
08:18 PM veegee: they have 380V ones for the European market but that's useless here
08:18 PM roycroft: they're not as popular, because most folks get the cheap ones to do single phase to 3 phase conversion
08:19 PM drdoc: the high-voltage VFDs used to be a lot cheaper than the 240V
08:19 PM veegee: so now I have to build my own 600V VFD
08:19 PM drdoc: at least used ones
08:19 PM veegee: most of my motors are 600V and I have a small transformer on the output of the VFD for each one. I really want to get rid of the transformer
08:30 PM roycroft: hmm, i may be wrong about the high voltage huanyangs
08:30 PM roycroft: i was sure i'd seen them, but all the documention i have for the devices shows the 380v versions as the only 3 phase only in versions
08:35 PM XXCoder: cast iron milling have interesting chips
08:36 PM roycroft: tiny chips and lots and lots of dust
08:36 PM XXCoder: yrah
08:36 PM XXCoder: i wonder if larger companies reclaim that to cast again
08:38 PM roycroft: i'm sure they do
08:38 PM roycroft: i just dump it in the scrap bucket
08:38 PM XXCoder: "you have better view than I do" lol
08:38 PM roycroft: a couple times/year i haul the bucket to the recyclers
08:38 PM XXCoder: andy is funny sometimes
08:39 PM roycroft: whever the bucket gets hard to pick up it's time to recycle
08:44 PM XXCoder: :)
08:45 PM roycroft: have you ever seen a jeweler's workbench, xxcoder?
08:45 PM XXCoder: not really, i think clickspring uses some of it
08:45 PM roycroft: they usually have 3-4 shallow drawers underneath the main work area
08:46 PM roycroft: you clamp your bird's mouth to the front of the bench for sawing
08:46 PM roycroft: and open the appropriate drawer to catch the dust
08:46 PM roycroft: you have a gold drawer, a silver drawer, a platinum drawer, etc.
08:46 PM XXCoder: interesting
08:47 PM roycroft: with precious metals, not even the fine dust is wasted
08:48 PM roycroft: and as we're past peak copper, and are approaching peak for other base metals, capturing and resmelting the fines is becoming more and more cost effective
08:48 PM XXCoder: we really need space mining.
08:49 PM roycroft: i disagree
08:49 PM XXCoder: one metallic rock is enough to supply current needs for thousand years
08:49 PM roycroft: i think we need to live within our means
08:49 PM roycroft: we need to quit breeding excessively
08:49 PM XXCoder: we really need to have some humans off planet though
08:49 PM roycroft: and we need to quit throwing away things that are still useful
08:49 PM roycroft: i don't think that's fair to the rest of the universe
08:50 PM roycroft: we need to stay on our own planet until we learn how to behave
08:50 PM XXCoder: probably but then probably will never be perfect
08:51 PM Tom_L: no, just send the bad ones away
08:51 PM XXCoder: i fairly suspect sapient techinical species is very rare in universe
08:51 PM XXCoder: we may be sole ones in galaxy
08:51 PM Tom_L: isn't that how Au was populated?
08:51 PM XXCoder: basically.
08:51 PM roycroft: that's no reason for manspreading the entire solar system
08:52 PM XXCoder: people who fit in well and are nice usually dont want to move out
08:52 PM Tom_L: the 'bad' ones would be the survivors
08:52 PM XXCoder: not automically
08:53 PM Tom_L: it will get tired of us eventually and swallow us up
08:54 PM roycroft: yes, our days are numbered as the dominant species
08:54 PM roycroft: but what will replacde us?
08:54 PM roycroft: the wombat?
08:54 PM Tom_L: ants
08:54 PM roycroft: the mina bird?
08:54 PM XXCoder: i have no assumations like that
08:54 PM XXCoder: we may succeed. we may not.
08:55 PM roycroft: at some point humans will no longer be the dominant species
08:55 PM XXCoder: maybe
08:55 PM XXCoder: maybe not
08:55 PM Tom_L: roaches will take over
08:55 PM roycroft: absolutely
08:56 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:56 PM roycroft: but i don't know if our successors will take over, or if some other species will
08:56 PM roycroft: homo sapiens as a species will not exist forever
08:56 PM XXCoder: we might evolve into something else
08:57 PM Tom_L: i may come back as a bald eagle
08:57 PM roycroft: some might argue that homo millennius is already a different species :)
08:57 PM XXCoder: you may be correct in way you wouldnt think would happen that way
08:58 PM Tom_L: i did promise to come back and haunt the mrs though
08:59 PM Tom_L: if my pets could talk for a day i wonder what they would tell me
08:59 PM XXCoder: i would ask crows
08:59 PM XXCoder: they may be most sapient species besides us humans
09:00 PM Tom_L: ok i got this part about as far as i can tonight
09:00 PM XXCoder: man i really want a shop lol
09:01 PM Tom_L: i was fiddling with jt's file
09:02 PM XXCoder: yeah that very complex thing
09:02 PM XXCoder: trying to get it to work?
09:02 PM Tom_L: i think he needs a fixture to hold it in for some assembly thing i dunno
09:03 PM Tom_L: i got a profile done
09:04 PM XXCoder: yeah cardle something its called?
09:04 PM XXCoder: fixture that always correctly hold part
09:04 PM Tom_L: cradle?
09:04 PM XXCoder: yeah
09:04 PM Tom_L: i guess, i really don't know
09:07 PM XXCoder: anyway
09:07 PM XXCoder: i saw very cool 3d printed wire bender
09:07 PM XXCoder: awesome! kinda want to play with that
09:07 PM XXCoder: but no cad and cam. aw
09:08 PM XXCoder: noit sure how hard to get cant be printed parts
09:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/profile1.jpg
09:08 PM XXCoder: wire bender https://hackaday.com/tag/wire-bender/
09:11 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/WENEK-LJA6E if dont want see hack a day site
09:27 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:28 PM JavaBean: hackaday's site isn't too bad. though i am running it through pi-hole and noscript so i could be seeing something different from you
09:28 PM XXCoder: just noscript for me
09:36 PM Tom_L: https://howtomechatronics.com/projects/arduino-3d-wire-bending-machine/
09:36 PM XXCoder: i remember that one
09:37 PM XXCoder: i probably would use linuxcnc with BOB and tb6600s
09:37 PM XXCoder: works better
09:38 PM XXCoder: or one of those cheaper boards nowdays
09:39 PM XXCoder: that one seems you program bends etc not gcode
09:42 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: sure but is yours made from your dried feces and items found in the alley?
09:42 PM XXCoder: ?
09:43 PM CaptHindsight: wire bender
09:43 PM XXCoder: i dont own one?
09:43 PM CaptHindsight: has to be found wire as well
09:44 PM CaptHindsight: i see bolts made of metal in that bender
09:45 PM CaptHindsight: who can afford bolts made of metal?
09:45 PM CaptHindsight: as well as roller bearings
09:46 PM CaptHindsight: NO 3d printed stepper motor, tubing, bearings or bolts
09:47 PM Tom_L: metal is cheaper than wood now...
09:47 PM CaptHindsight: one might as well use automation components and build and actual machine
09:48 PM CaptHindsight: wood, glue, PLA and found items or you are some sort of techo-snob elitist
09:50 PM Tom_L: must be arduino powered too
09:51 PM CaptHindsight: there you go with the fancy tech talk again
09:56 PM CaptHindsight: i once made a table saw from old doughnuts, discarded McDonalds food wrappers, roadkill and driftwood
10:01 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: yes, Professor
10:01 PM XXCoder: i guess you ran out of coconuts?
10:02 PM XXCoder: or did gilligan order you to stop using em as its food source?
10:05 PM CaptHindsight: coconuts, you had coconuts?!
10:05 PM XXCoder: nah im far from any such trees
10:06 PM unterhaus_: whatever happened to making machines out of spit and bailing wire?
10:07 PM CaptHindsight: today is early spring temps and rain
10:07 PM unterhaus_: I suppose today's youth would need a wire bender to use the bailing wire
10:07 PM CaptHindsight: oh bailing wire
10:08 PM CaptHindsight: probably a shiny new roll you got as well
10:08 PM Tom_L: i hammered it out of ore
10:09 PM * JavaBean discovered a few years ago that most people don't know what bailing wire is... or that many body shops around here use it for automotive repairs
10:09 PM unterhaus_: you had ore? I had to steal bits from an airplane at the airport
10:09 PM Tom_L: JavaBean, i use coat hangars for that
10:09 PM CaptHindsight: car tape
10:10 PM JavaBean: considering how hight the local "teen pregnancy" levels are... no one sells real hangers anymore
10:10 PM unterhaus_: I have seen a lot of bales of hay, not once did I see one tied with wire
10:11 PM unterhaus_: must have been an obsolete process
10:11 PM CaptHindsight: fancy stuff https://www.balingwiredirect.com/
10:12 PM XXCoder: igh end
10:12 PM XXCoder: *high
10:12 PM CaptHindsight: "Trusted by 1000's of Companies"
10:12 PM XXCoder: trusted by hanes
10:13 PM CaptHindsight: who knew it was so popular
10:13 PM CaptHindsight: for when the elastic wears out
10:19 PM CaptHindsight: clever name Cram-a-lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOc2PSjp1RM
11:00 PM XXCoder: bit of warning of possible upcoming issues with freenode https://gist.github.com/joepie91/df80d8d36cd9d1bde46ba018af497409
11:05 PM roycroft: are you still about, drdoc?
11:21 PM veegee: diphenhydramine is one of my all time favourite drugs
11:21 PM veegee: Take a little too much and lose yourself in music
11:22 PM veegee: got the miniDSP with dual sealed subwoofers and two KEF LS50s driven by a class AB amplifier - my endgame sound system
11:31 PM JavaBean: my favorite drugs are based on dihydrogenmonoxide... its amazing just all the things you can do with it!!!!
11:40 PM roycroft: that stuff can kill you, javabean
