02:25 AM Deejay: moin
04:36 AM Tom_L: morning
06:10 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:46 AM net|: does anyone know how to rotate a ball with 3 motors ?
07:46 AM net|: percision drill positioning
07:50 AM net|: maybe the obot from new starwars
07:51 AM net|: want to make my own ywvr chair
07:51 AM net|: maybe with hemp mat a yoga ball and some cement
08:03 AM gloops: would need 5 axis? 3 cartesian 2 rotary?
08:06 AM gloops: i use a brace and bit to save work
08:14 AM colten: morning
08:29 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-heat/wood-bin-2/wood-bin-11.jpg
08:49 AM net|: i dont ever remember seeing 2x4s that green
08:49 AM net|: too much presssure treat ?
08:50 AM net|: why even use pressure treat for inside ?
08:54 AM SpiritHorse: required by code
08:55 AM SpiritHorse: at least in most places
08:56 AM net|: never seen that problem before
08:56 AM SpiritHorse: depends on they definition of 'exterior' and 'above soil' in this context
08:56 AM SpiritHorse: both require pressure treated in most places
08:56 AM net|: its probably a health risk even
08:57 AM SpiritHorse: the flooring most definetely must
08:57 AM roycroft: douglas fir is pretty durable outdoors
08:57 AM net|: might only be salt but it can corrode things too and stink up stale air
08:57 AM roycroft: and of course there's always cedar and cypress
08:57 AM SpiritHorse: and I'm not a code expert but I would error on the side of it also being required in that framing under the guise of exterior structure
08:58 AM SpiritHorse: this thing may not even be covered by code, as well, it's such a rat nest
08:58 AM SpiritHorse: laws in locales that is
08:58 AM net|: must be from places that can get termites
08:59 AM net|: we dont have those in canada only wood worms
08:59 AM roycroft: we don't have termites around here either
08:59 AM roycroft: in the pacific northwet
08:59 AM gloops: damn, black screen, long beep on startup
09:04 AM gloops: had chip out and back, ram, graphics card, nothing plugged in only power
09:04 AM gloops: (long repeating beep)
09:06 AM roycroft: i am going to get my first jab in a couple hours
09:34 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, lookin good. but... the first thought i had was you need to quit feeding the chickens so much
09:57 AM JT-Cave: what do you mean Tom_L
09:57 AM JT-Cave: net|, it's not inside
09:58 AM Tom_L: just reminded me of cages :)
09:58 AM JT-Cave: ah
09:59 AM Tom_L: think fog horn leg horn
09:59 AM JT-Cave: he used to come visit me every day
10:01 AM JT-Cave: geez there is a lot of building inspectors in here today LOL
11:10 AM Bleepshop: JT-Cave: Got any wall cavities that need some extra filler ? ;D
11:14 AM gloops: well. played in/out with the ram again and finally get a startup
11:16 AM gloops: beep and light diagnostic charts fail to mention its most likely your PC is just having a bad day
11:22 AM veegee: Do you have to sand the zinc layer off before welding galvanized steel?
11:22 AM veegee: That is, TIG welding
11:23 AM veegee: The context of this question is weld quality and strength. I already know about zinc fumes
11:27 AM Tom_L: don't breathe zinc fumes
11:32 AM Tom_L: yes, remove the zinc layer first
11:47 AM roycroft: or don't weld on galvanized steel if you can help it :)
11:55 AM veegee: Welding a rail onto my trailer for tie downs
11:56 AM veegee: I bought the trailer for $300. 6'x12', single 3,500 lb axle. Needs some work but can't beat that price
12:02 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-heat/wood-bin-2/wood-bin-12.jpg
12:02 PM JT-Shop: two bins done, temp brace will come off when other two bins are done
12:04 PM JT-Shop: nap time...
12:05 PM net|: that slope will wedge snow between house and shed
12:07 PM net|: or even ice chunks hopefully house has good overhang
12:07 PM net|: slope it other way maybe
12:09 PM net|: also you shlould slow down on the beers
12:20 PM _unreal_: making good progress with the laser etcher
12:59 PM NoGodDamnIdea: hey guys
01:10 PM roycroft: i has been jabbed!
01:11 PM Tom_L: and survived
01:13 PM gloops: ive had the email to book for a jab for a week
01:14 PM roycroft: so far
01:15 PM roycroft: they had me sit in my car for 15 minutes after the innoculation to make sure i did not have an allergic reaction
01:16 PM roycroft: i don't feel it at all yet
01:16 PM roycroft: i expect round 2 to be different though
01:17 PM roycroft: i have to finish moving out of our old data center today, so i hope i don't feel any effects of the vaccine
01:31 PM _unreal_: just got my air assist setup on my laser etcher
01:32 PM _unreal_: still need to get the holder mount setup but for sure that little pump is doing a fine job
01:35 PM Rab: roycroft, congrats! I hear some soreness at the injection site isn't unusual, over a few days. But I'd clear your calendar for the second shot, just in case.
01:37 PM roycroft: yes, that's what i hear as well, rab
01:37 PM roycroft: and i do plan on clearing my calendar for a couple days after the second go
01:37 PM roycroft: i'm hoping that i get sick the, because that means it is working well
01:39 PM roycroft: my t cell armies know i've just been invaded, and are building up forces and developing a strategy right now
01:39 PM roycroft: in 3 weeks i'll be invaded again, and they will be ready to go to war
01:40 PM Rab: My neighbors are in their late '60s, and both of them were knocked out pretty good after the second shot (but doing better now). My mother, who is quite elderly, felt nothing from either dose.
01:41 PM Rab: I wonder if anybody has a recommendation: countersink before, or after roll form tapping?
01:42 PM Rab: I'm leaning toward before, since forming makes a natural lead-in and countersinking after shaves it off.
01:42 PM roycroft: i haven't done any roll form tapping, but when i use a conventional tap, i countersink before tapping, and sometimes need to do so again after tapping
01:42 PM roycroft: if i were machine tapping i'd chamfer after tapping
01:43 PM roycroft: but i find that when manually tapping it's easier to line up the tap straight if i've done a little countersink first
01:43 PM roycroft: i'm not sure how that applies to roll form tapping
01:44 PM roycroft: i would experiment
01:44 PM roycroft: but i've just finished my network remapping, and now it's time to go to work
01:45 PM roycroft: i get to keep all the ladder rack and other overhead support infrastructure from the data center
01:45 PM roycroft: i'm going to make a metal storage rack out of it - that will be sweet
01:45 PM roycroft: i've wanted a proper metal storage rack for decades
01:45 PM Rab: It's prettier to countersink after. But the rolled threads sometimes leave a groove if the drill size isn't theoretical dead-on perfect, and it's not impossible to start a fastener into the groove instead of the proper threads.
01:46 PM roycroft: if it's that particular then i would consider drilling and reaming before tapping, even though that adds an operation
01:46 PM roycroft: multiplied by x number of tapped holes
01:47 PM Rab: Alas, no reamers in form tap sizes here. But that would help reliability.
01:47 PM roycroft: my problem with conventional tapping is that sometimes the tap leaves a raised lip on the top of the hole
01:47 PM roycroft: so i have to countersink again to get it flat
01:47 PM Rab: Yeah, same.
01:47 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm off to have fun in the not sun, even though it's another beautiful sunny day
02:08 PM rue_mohr: plasma cut line, +-1mm due to torch factors?
02:08 PM rue_mohr: 2? 5?
02:18 PM _unreal_: just did the best partial test burn YET with the laser etcher
02:19 PM _unreal_: forced air assist WHAT a difference
02:19 PM _unreal_: WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a difference
02:20 PM _unreal_: its nice having a NANO ever lasting air pump :)
02:20 PM _unreal_: the pump is good for "50k" hours
02:20 PM _unreal_: medical diaphragm pump.
02:25 PM burklefoo: roycroft: I had nothing but a sore arm on the first shot (Moderna), but the second shot gave me flu like symptoms for about 2 1/2 days (plus the sore arm again)
02:26 PM _unreal_: better a sore arm then a sore ass :)
02:36 PM _unreal_: the biggest thing I've found with dealing with doing the laser etching. GOT to take the output file and convert it from g0-g1's to ALLLLL g1's
02:36 PM _unreal_: other wise I get those damn rapids
02:36 PM _unreal_: and it shakes the shit out of the machine
02:37 PM _unreal_: My cnc prob would not bother it. its not fast
02:37 PM rue_mohr: but you can configure a low rapid
02:37 PM _unreal_: laser on the other hand can do 550"/min
02:37 PM _unreal_: low rapid?
02:37 PM _unreal_: dont know how
02:37 PM _unreal_: I just need the feed speed to be constant
02:38 PM rue_mohr: <_unreal_> other wise I get those damn rapids
02:38 PM rue_mohr: you edit config.h in the grbl..... are you using grbl?
02:38 PM _unreal_: GRBL yes
02:38 PM _unreal_: ?
02:38 PM rue_mohr: when you opened it in arduino, the default project came with a pile of open tabs
02:38 PM rue_mohr: one of them was max feed rate
02:39 PM _unreal_: it was loaded from lasergrbl
02:39 PM internut: hey there
02:39 PM internut: :)
02:39 PM rue_mohr: you configure your end stops for your project, right?
02:39 PM _unreal_: BUT YES I can/could reload-edit from arduio IDE
02:39 PM rue_mohr: internut, hehe... ssh
02:40 PM internut: so, _unreal_ do you recommend against 1.1h grbl?
02:40 PM rue_mohr: I always have to edit my endstop polarity and motor directions
02:40 PM _unreal_: rue_mohr, https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPqX5FMaiwizwkp5A0lmHpWMVkC32P_WxZ3-6tw3fKjWP90ujEXEVws37aZ8SsFQA?key=LTBIU3F3bHdJUndDUEJPalJzcTFxdGlGSlBUOW53
02:40 PM _unreal_: internut, ahh? you should likely use the latest and greatest unless you have a reason not to
02:40 PM internut: okay
02:40 PM internut: I got it built and installed
02:40 PM internut: haven't tried it yes
02:40 PM _unreal_: what device is it your using grbl on again?
02:40 PM rue_mohr: the latest and greatist is not late or great
02:41 PM _unreal_: cnc/printer/laser?
02:41 PM _unreal_: combo?
02:41 PM rue_mohr: if you find a problem, its likley not been fixed, ever
02:41 PM rue_mohr: sortware in general
02:41 PM internut: https://www.sainsmart.com/collections/genmitsu-cnc-replacement-upgrade-parts/products/open-box-3-axis-grbl-usb-driver-controller-board
02:41 PM _unreal_: I dont care about the motion controller or your motor controllers WHAT is the machine that its driving?
02:41 PM internut: oh, I'd like to use it for both cnc and laser
02:42 PM internut: the machine has a cutter on it
02:42 PM internut: I adapted a laser to it
02:42 PM _unreal_: that can be done easy
02:42 PM _unreal_: just be aiware
02:42 PM _unreal_: aware
02:42 PM rue_mohr: I use grbl on the cnc machines cause its super cheap to set up and doesn't have to run thru a slow parallel port
02:42 PM _unreal_: you'll want custom header and footer gcode. to SET function modes
02:43 PM _unreal_: for example enable laser mode $32=1 in your header and $32=0 in your footer to revert back to cnc mode
02:43 PM _unreal_: rue_mohr, I use planetcnc controllers on my cnc machine
02:43 PM internut: there's a jumper on the board to select cnc/laser
02:43 PM _unreal_: internut, ?
02:44 PM internut: just wondering if I should use it
02:44 PM _unreal_: is that a jumper to control hardware or a control chip setting?
02:44 PM internut: I have no clue
02:44 PM _unreal_: no idea what is its function
02:44 PM internut: just getting started with this board
02:44 PM rue_mohr: _unreal_, do they cost more or less than $4usd?
02:44 PM _unreal_: f-TON more
02:44 PM rue_mohr: well that wont work for me than
02:44 PM _unreal_: $40-$300
02:45 PM rue_mohr: ouch
02:45 PM _unreal_: they have an old free original version.
02:45 PM _unreal_: one of my cnc machines runs on that
02:45 PM internut: I kept the board that came with the machine unmodified, and bought these boards to experiment
02:46 PM _unreal_: I had the new cnc machine I'm building setup for linuxcnc but found it had issues GUI issues I could not resulve
02:46 PM _unreal_: resolve,
02:47 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc4/p1090553.jpg :) bucket cnc
02:47 PM _unreal_: so picked up an other planetcnc controller board. I'll load it into the control box when I can get the final MAJOR part milled :( still wiating on a machine shop company to deal with the damn thing
02:47 PM internut: so, when you set variables like '$130 = 200.000' does that get squirreled away in flash somewhere?
02:47 PM rue_mohr: I dont think I even put $100 into that one
02:48 PM rue_mohr: dont know if I even broke the $20 budget
02:48 PM _unreal_: rue_mohr, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QiVG-3oYM0k8G7jLCvv1eaoqVGQh-K_d/view?usp=sharing
02:48 PM rue_mohr: nice
02:48 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what happens to all these machine we make over the ages
02:48 PM rue_mohr: at this rate, the world should be brimming with them
02:48 PM _unreal_: that cnc machine is 8yo
02:49 PM _unreal_: and still running sitting right behind me
02:49 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc2/p1030106.jpg <-- it shares features with this one, which was a fail for me
02:49 PM _unreal_: its so robust the only thing that fails on it is the X bearings and its JUST the ubolt bearings at that
02:50 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/p1100587.jpg <-- this one is 1997
02:50 PM rue_mohr: still going
02:50 PM _unreal_: rue_mohr, keep this in mind
02:50 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EzVANFGFA96IZYhtiRTWMElxfJVwtkb5/view?usp=sharing
02:50 PM rue_mohr: still running my DOS control software :/
02:50 PM _unreal_: \turbocnc?
02:50 PM rue_mohr: I like the rail center adjustments
02:50 PM rue_mohr: no I wrote it
02:51 PM rue_mohr: it was 1997
02:51 PM _unreal_: rail adjuster?
02:51 PM _unreal_: mine or yours?
02:51 PM rue_mohr: on that last image, the system for centering the rails
02:51 PM rue_mohr: yours
02:51 PM _unreal_: its not centering its a retainer
02:51 PM rue_mohr: no, on the ends, with the positioning bolts
02:52 PM _unreal_: just angle iron with beaings
02:52 PM _unreal_: OH OH OH H
02:52 PM rue_mohr: yea I did that angle iron thing on my fail machine
02:52 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc2/p1020739.jpg
02:52 PM rue_mohr: when I make it I couldn't do welding
02:53 PM rue_mohr: there were enough issues with the build that I just started again with my welder
02:54 PM _unreal_: well what I'm getting at is that ubolt setup works wonders
02:56 PM _unreal_: granted I only have single ubolts per upper and lower bearing mounts
02:56 PM _unreal_: all the torque is on that one bearing
02:56 PM _unreal_: ever 1000/hr I have to change that one bearing
02:56 PM _unreal_: err 2 berings
02:56 PM _unreal_: bearings
02:56 PM _unreal_: due to the torque needs
02:57 PM _unreal_: but my machine is more then capable of milling aluminum
02:58 PM gloops: chain drive, interesting
02:59 PM gloops: i used chain with my first attempt
03:03 PM rue_mohr: yup
03:05 PM gloops: i also used scaffold tubes as rails
03:06 PM rue_mohr: chain drive?
03:06 PM gloops: and skate bearings, although i used 8 bearings per mounting, i got a larger diameter tube, cut sections and welded 4 lugs each end to take a bearing
03:06 PM gloops: yeah in that pic you posted
03:06 PM gloops: y looks roller chain driven?
03:06 PM rue_mohr: ah yep, gave it a bit of a ratio
03:07 PM rue_mohr: not for feed
03:07 PM gloops: a ratio?
03:07 PM rue_mohr: oh the old ones Z
03:07 PM rue_mohr: yea the chain does 2:1 and sync of the two screws
03:07 PM gloops: oh i see
03:08 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/dscn7650.jpg
03:08 PM gloops: if you incorporate chain though you are running on the properties of chain
03:08 PM gloops: regardless if screws are involved
03:09 PM rue_mohr: its 19200 steps/inch
03:09 PM rue_mohr: play is probably 8 thou?
03:09 PM rue_mohr: wiggle another 5 thou?>
03:09 PM rue_mohr: sliders another 4?
03:10 PM gloops: some hours gone into that lol
03:10 PM rue_mohr: lots of mods since 1997
03:10 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc/slide.htm <-- I did give it a slideshow!
03:11 PM rue_mohr: I was granted $100 to build that, and I didn't spend it all
03:11 PM gloops: should have had a slide show of your face over the years to go with it
03:12 PM gloops: pretty sure you got greyer and more hagged over that time
03:12 PM rue_mohr: I didn't use it a lot ,because I wrote the NC software myself, with a custom dialect, I had no CAD/CAM for it
03:12 PM gloops: excellent
03:13 PM rue_mohr: I have two more machines in the works now, a cnc plasma and a 48"x96" router (because if that isn't big enough I'm doing it wrong)
03:13 PM rue_mohr: I'm working on converting it over to grbl
03:13 PM rue_mohr: reaaaaaly slow
03:14 PM rue_mohr: the orig motors were mostly 5 wire unipolar
03:14 PM rue_mohr: so I'm swapping them out for 6 wire, so it'll work with the existing, but I can change it up to a bipolar driver later
03:15 PM gloops: 96 inch is where you need a bit of speed
03:15 PM rue_mohr: na
03:15 PM rue_mohr: patience
03:15 PM gloops: time stands still will the gantry crawls that far
03:15 PM gloops: anyway bbiab
03:15 PM Tom_L: you can do 3 other projects while it's traversing end to end
03:16 PM rue_mohr: I'm using chain drive for that, not lead screws
03:16 PM rue_mohr: hah, give it two heads! :)
03:16 PM Tom_L: yeah you decided belt was too $$$
03:16 PM rue_mohr: its crazy expensive
03:16 PM Tom_L: first mowing. need a shower now
03:16 PM rue_mohr: must be a volume thing
03:17 PM rue_mohr: I paid $40 for 9 feet of bike chain yesterday
03:17 PM rue_mohr: for that big new machine
03:17 PM rue_mohr: I think I can get some online for cheaper
03:18 PM rue_mohr: but I wanted to get going with it
03:18 PM rue_mohr: its been sitting idle for a year now
03:18 PM rue_mohr: I want to use DC drive for it
03:18 PM rue_mohr: I have 6 gear-reduced right angle drive motors from disability chairs
03:19 PM rue_mohr: I was going to keep them as chairs, but they are getting old fast
03:19 PM rue_mohr: (their not aging well)
03:20 PM rue_mohr: one of them was slated to become a robot to take out the garbage, but at this rate it looks like garbage is a thing of the past (its a long story)
03:30 PM enleth: so far "out" is a thing of the past, as well
03:31 PM enleth: "what do you mean, outside?"
03:51 PM miss0r: evening
04:25 PM _unreal_: that little pump I'm using is worth its weight in gold
04:27 PM _unreal_: hum
04:27 PM _unreal_: one sec my keyboard is F'ing up
04:27 PM _unreal_: bat,t,eries I t,hin\k\kk
04:29 PM _unreal_: hum
04:29 PM _unreal_: nope it was the USB dongle ODD
04:30 PM _unreal_: just, unplugged re-=plugged
04:30 PM _unreal_: rebooting my \keyboard is really fucking up
04:30 PM _unreal_: wt,2f
04:35 PM _unreal_: wtf?
04:35 PM _unreal_: st,ill doing it,
04:36 PM _unreal_: every time I type t does a t,
04:39 PM _unreal_: ok I have no idea what is going on?
04:39 PM _unreal_: k
04:39 PM _unreal_: t k
04:39 PM _unreal_: k t
04:39 PM _unreal_: ?
04:39 PM _unreal_: has anyone ever had an issue where they type certain letters on the keyboard nad it does odd stuff?
04:40 PM _unreal_: every time I typed k I would get a /k or t I would get a t, p was giving a p+
04:40 PM _unreal_: I think its stopped?
04:41 PM _unreal_: god I could hold shift + t and it would start typing lower case t's and it would repeat about 20 highlight them, and erease them and start repeatedly printing t's as t,
04:42 PM Tom_L: get a new keyboard and be done with it
04:42 PM _unreal_: I just pulled the dongle again, pulled the batteries
04:42 PM _unreal_: put them back, hit the reset.
04:43 PM _unreal_: tried re-binding witht eh logitech dongle? seems to have stopped
04:43 PM _unreal_: I've had issues with low batteries but it just stops working. that was just odd
05:16 PM skunkworks: now I will be up forever!! (forgot to run screen first so when I exited out of ssh - I lost my session...)
05:16 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/IMG_20210328_165552.jpg
05:16 PM Tom_L: woops
05:17 PM skunkworks: grabbed a oem650 stepper drive - now I actually have 4 axis.
05:18 PM Tom_L: what are you using to program it?
05:18 PM skunkworks: seems to run it as well as the leadshine. (atleast the same speed - could see if I could push it more)
05:18 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: nothing yet... Probably initally by hand.
05:18 PM skunkworks: or wrapping a linear gcode around it... (cheating)
05:19 PM skunkworks: I was thinking of scribbing 0-360 around the outside of the faceplate using andys gcode generator.
05:21 PM * JT-Shop wonders what net| was talking about...
05:24 PM skunkworks: Huh - that is the a axis - for some reason I was confused... (I guess - it is in line with x)
05:25 PM Tom_L: what did you think it was?
05:25 PM skunkworks: for some reason B... but why would that make sense. B on the K&T is aligned with y. Just a long day
05:28 PM Tom_L: my cad cam will do a rotary but only as an indexer
05:28 PM Tom_L: i haven't figured out how to use it
05:30 PM skunkworks: I think 360 got pretty nutared for 4th axis stuff - hobby version anyway.
05:30 PM skunkworks: Does freecam do rotary? Don't know.
05:31 PM internut_: anyone here use OpenSCAD?
05:32 PM internut_: I'm subracting a polyhedron from a cube and it's coming out all wrong
05:32 PM skunkworks: internut_: no. Only slightly looked at it.
05:32 PM skunkworks: from the corner of my eye...
05:35 PM Tom_L: i took a peek at it and ran the other way
05:35 PM internut_: I se4e
05:35 PM internut_: I see
05:35 PM internut_: I love it actually
05:36 PM Tom_L: you must like triangles
05:36 PM internut_: well, I'm a coder
05:36 PM internut_: so it feels like a natural way to model things
05:39 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, is that mill alot smaller than the green machine?
05:42 PM XXCoder: skunkworks: nice to see it cutting!
05:42 PM XXCoder: or attempt to>?
06:07 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: yes - a bit smaller
06:07 PM skunkworks: and a lot less rigid.. Or a bit less rigid
06:19 PM Bleepshop: I may be considered a heathen and an infidel for saying this but I've been using Blender to do CAD.
06:20 PM Bleepshop: Of course now that I've actually got a machine to feed files that may change.
06:21 PM XXCoder: other channel mod uses blender to make her printer design
06:21 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-heat/wood-bin-2/wood-bin-13.jpg
06:21 PM XXCoder: its doable, if not best way to do so.
06:21 PM JT-Shop: 4th a 5th walls up
06:21 PM XXCoder: to store something?
06:21 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-heat/wood-bin-2/wood-bin-14.jpg
06:21 PM XXCoder: firewood?
06:21 PM JT-Shop: 5 1x4's and the walls are done
06:21 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:22 PM XXCoder: treated? wood look green
06:22 PM JT-Shop: yea all PT wood
06:22 PM XXCoder: nice
06:22 PM JT-Shop: got the first piece of firewood in lol
06:22 PM XXCoder: :)
06:22 PM JT-Shop: wood is terribly expensive right now
06:23 PM JT-Shop: I have 3 1/2 truck loads of firewood to load in there but need to frame up the roof first
06:24 PM Bleepshop: JT-Shop: For a minute there I thought you forgot to build the seats and hang the doors, Then I realized it was a wood bin and not a 4-holer outhouse. ;D
06:24 PM JT-Shop: the 1x4's are cross bracing on the back wall
06:24 PM JT-Shop: LOL
06:24 PM JT-Shop: we live in the woods but we do have indoor plumbing...
06:25 PM XXCoder: jt yeah it sucks lol
06:26 PM JT-Shop: everything is double the normal price
06:27 PM JT-Shop: the walls are rigid as all get out right now but I'll finish bracing the back
06:27 PM XXCoder: good idea to brace as much as possibke
06:27 PM JT-Shop: aye
06:28 PM JT-Shop: it's amazing how rigid the bracing made the structure
06:29 PM XXCoder: convert to religion of tringles and bracing ;)
06:29 PM JT-Shop: behind me in the photos is the big shop so the wood will be close
06:29 PM JT-Shop: triangles are your friend
06:29 PM JT-Shop: Druid reformed...
06:32 PM * JT-Shop wanders to the deck to warm up the grill...
06:35 PM XXCoder: lol later :)
06:48 PM NoGodDamnIdea: night yall
07:02 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
07:15 PM snakedGT is now known as snaked
07:49 PM _unreal_: just loaded 3 new photos did my first REAL burn

07:50 PM bjorkintosh: oh shit. what are you making?
07:50 PM bjorkintosh: a plotter?
07:51 PM _unreal_: its a laser etcher
07:51 PM bjorkintosh: oh fun! how powerful is the laser?
07:51 PM _unreal_: with touch probe,
07:51 PM _unreal_: 3watt
07:51 PM bjorkintosh: scratch built.
07:51 PM _unreal_: can always upgrade to a higher power LED laser
07:51 PM _unreal_: n o
07:52 PM _unreal_: no ish
07:52 PM bjorkintosh: no?
07:52 PM _unreal_: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HV57Y5M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
07:52 PM _unreal_: I purchased that and upgraded the SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... out of it
07:53 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, you live?
07:53 PM t4nk_freenode: always.
07:54 PM _unreal_: look at the phtoos of the laser
07:54 PM _unreal_: just did my first real burn
07:54 PM _unreal_: came out amazing
07:54 PM t4nk_freenode: ayeaye cpt.
07:54 PM _unreal_: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPqX5FMaiwizwkp5A0lmHpWMVkC32P_WxZ3-6tw3fKjWP90ujEXEVws37aZ8SsFQA?key=LTBIU3F3bHdJUndDUEJPalJzcTFxdGlGSlBUOW53
07:55 PM _unreal_: I'm about to make some crazy money with it
07:56 PM _unreal_: thoughts?
07:56 PM t4nk_freenode: I'm still struggling to see anything at all
07:56 PM _unreal_: ?
07:56 PM t4nk_freenode: nice rotating google cursor
07:57 PM _unreal_: hum
07:57 PM _unreal_: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPqX5FMaiwizwkp5A0lmHpWMVkC32P_WxZ3-6tw3fKjWP90ujEXEVws37aZ8SsFQA/photo/AF1QipPhFIa4d5PENSUpo0pMTWDL8XrwGyT-iaZ77jw2?key=LTBIU3F3bHdJUndDUEJPalJzcTFxdGlGSlBUOW53
07:58 PM _unreal_: what web site does your country NOT block?
07:59 PM t4nk_freenode: I just saw 20210328_201214.jpg, but only because I downloaded it
07:59 PM t4nk_freenode: well, it's not the first time this has come up... your google sucks
08:01 PM t4nk_freenode: you changed the settings in the mean time, haven't you.... now it's finally working a bit better
08:01 PM t4nk_freenode: I can see the other pics
08:02 PM _unreal_: https://imgur.com/a/8KqGdKj
08:02 PM t4nk_freenode: so the question was in fact.. 'how many countries do you block your foto' s at' ;)
08:02 PM _unreal_: thats photo sharing its totally open to view
08:02 PM t4nk_freenode: hang on, I can see them now
08:03 PM _unreal_: and?
08:03 PM t4nk_freenode: that top one photo is the original? what is it?
08:04 PM t4nk_freenode: and did you take a picture of that or what
08:04 PM t4nk_freenode: looks nice anyhow
08:05 PM _unreal_: its some special coffee
08:05 PM _unreal_: infused flavor coffee
08:05 PM t4nk_freenode: sounds nasty
08:06 PM _unreal_: its wonderful
08:06 PM _unreal_: now that I have some tuning done and some function understanding
08:06 PM _unreal_: what a difference
08:07 PM _unreal_: you want one dont you :)
08:07 PM _unreal_: I'm going to end up with plenty of business soon
08:07 PM t4nk_freenode: lol....not really, or rather.. not at all ;)
08:08 PM _unreal_: next thing I have to do is setup/solve and get the speed control for the mini air compressor working
08:08 PM t4nk_freenode: unless it could cut 10cm aluminium plating, otherwise I really don't have any use for it
08:08 PM _unreal_: My cnc can
08:08 PM _unreal_: that would take a fiber laser regardless
08:09 PM _unreal_: and 10cm ? t,hat,s rather thic\k isnt it?
08:09 PM _unreal_: keyboard is freaking out again
08:09 PM t4nk_freenode: I think I'd prefer deadly fumes over horrible ratchet from a cnc
08:09 PM _unreal_: t doing that odd t, thing and the \k stuff as well
08:09 PM _unreal_: I dont know if this is a windows issue? or a keyboard issue
08:10 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, the 10cm was just to capture your imagination.. which it did just fine ;)
08:10 PM _unreal_: hate windows
08:10 PM _unreal_: but thats where all the good cad software is :(
08:10 PM t4nk_freenode: I refuse to even look at it ;)
08:10 PM t4nk_freenode: where you seem to infuse it :))
08:12 PM t4nk_freenode: I can't design very well at all, but I found openscad is a darned fine solution for ppl like me
08:24 PM bjorkintosh: _unreal_, you could just run windows in virtualbox on your OS of choice.
08:24 PM bjorkintosh: that's what I do.
08:25 PM bjorkintosh: btw, does the burn generate a lot of smoke?
08:25 PM _unreal_: a SHIT load
08:25 PM bjorkintosh: ah shit. I need a shop.
08:25 PM _unreal_: my next phase. I need to build a tent frame
08:25 PM bjorkintosh: I run windows in virtualbox (seemless) for autocad. I don't really use anything else on windows.
08:25 PM _unreal_: I use designspark, and fusion360
08:27 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, if you need a cad drawing done let me know
08:27 PM _unreal_: I can wip stuff up very fast
08:28 PM _unreal_: bjorkintosh, I designed and built this for my daughter
08:28 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fNUz8yQsjeJA0Uxd1_SwFodAyful3OVN/view?usp=sharing
08:29 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hnd8mD4u5KKsIrPQOX7oN4ZlZ37xEnPs/view?usp=sharing
08:32 PM t4nk_freenode: I'm sort of focusing on making parts mostly.. so what I normally want are straight and square and round things, and to precise dimensions
08:32 PM t4nk_freenode: so that can be done perfectly with openscad for me
08:33 PM t4nk_freenode: sometimes I'd like to be able to make it look a bit flashier orsth... with more rounded edges and curves
08:33 PM t4nk_freenode: I can do that to a certain extent, but that's probably where openscad falls short too
08:34 PM _unreal_: easy for me
08:35 PM _unreal_: the creator of ESTLcam wont admit he has a bad fuckup in the code of his software that I found.
08:35 PM _unreal_: if you change certain settings it starts rounding numbers and reall fucks up gcode values
08:36 PM _unreal_: ! oh damn I didnt load the photos of the mini air pump and BLOW tip
08:36 PM _unreal_: blow tip isnt fully finished yet
08:51 PM _unreal_: an other quiet night
08:51 PM _unreal_: well enjoying beer cooking din
08:59 PM mrec_: does anyone work with a VFD?
08:59 PM mrec_: I wonder which kind of resolution do they usually have?
09:00 PM mrec_: I'm currently building up a table for my chinese spindle PWM vs RPM and it seems like the steps are based in 50 RPM
09:01 PM Tom_L: never payed much attention to it but mine hits the setpoint i give it and stays there pretty well
09:02 PM Tom_L: i'm using analog for the signal
09:02 PM Tom_L: dunno if pwm or modbus would differ any
09:02 PM mrec_: can you set any value?
09:02 PM Tom_L: afik i can
09:02 PM mrec_: or does it have some particular resolution
09:02 PM mrec_: ah
09:03 PM Tom_L: i'm not using a bazillion rpm spindle though
09:04 PM Tom_L: 6k tops on mine iirc
09:04 PM mrec_: I just interfaced the potentiometer of this one: https://i.snipboard.io/HXp5iv.jpg
09:04 PM mrec_: and I'm making up some profile for it now
09:11 PM bjorkintosh: _unreal_, how long did it take? the mill you made.
09:16 PM Tom_L: iirc mine took ~6 weeks working evenings on it
09:18 PM mrec_: Tom_L: which one do you have?
09:18 PM bjorkintosh: 6 weeks? that's not too bad. but you already have a shop don't you, Tom_L?
09:19 PM Tom_L: no shop here
09:19 PM Tom_L: just hand tools and a welder
09:19 PM bjorkintosh: you ... whittled the pieces???
09:19 PM bjorkintosh: with a swiss army pocket knife??
09:19 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Mill3.jpg
09:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Spindle/Spindle_motor1.jpg
09:20 PM Tom_L: with the new spindle motor mounted
09:20 PM Tom_L: 1.2 kw
09:21 PM Tom_L: you can look thru those dir for the full build process
09:21 PM bjorkintosh: Nice.
09:21 PM mrec_: https://streamable.com/ut8x0r that's mine
09:22 PM mrec_: still with the old spindle firmware, I'm fine tuning it now so I can somewhat set the RPMs
09:22 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoG_JaILNz3Q-jBZ5MiK1dA/videos
09:23 PM Tom_L: a few things i've done with it
09:26 PM bjorkintosh: wow.
09:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/extinguisher_nut/Pressure_test_cap3.jpg
09:29 PM mrec_: that dust cover looks nice I thought about it too but it limits the size of the parts which you can clamp onto the machine (of course unless you remove it)
09:29 PM Tom_L: there's that cap i did
09:29 PM mrec_: so I didn't install anything.
09:29 PM Tom_L: dust cover?
09:29 PM Tom_L: the neoprene?
09:30 PM mrec_: the acrylic .. dust shield
09:30 PM Tom_L: ahh
09:30 PM Tom_L: chips fly everywhere without it
09:30 PM Tom_L: i have several fronts for different things
09:30 PM Tom_L: and if need be i can take them off
09:31 PM mrec_: I'm just putting some plastic on it when milling bigger parts
09:31 PM mrec_: (eg. from bigger aluminium plates)
09:31 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmmw4qLhLMk
09:32 PM Tom_L: there was piles of crap everywhere when i did that one
09:32 PM mrec_: is that aluminium?
09:32 PM Tom_L: 3" alum cube
09:32 PM mrec_: just put some transparent plastic around the head and the part
09:33 PM Tom_L: too confined for me
09:33 PM Tom_L: i need/want to be able to clear out pockets of chips etc as it's cutting
09:36 PM mrec_: I'm using a similar one: https://www.partycity.com/clear-plastic-table-cover-72159.html
09:37 PM Tom_L: pretty flexible
09:37 PM Tom_L: mine is ~1/8" lexan
09:38 PM Tom_L: i have some thinner stuff i put on the back side that will flex out of the way if the spindle head gets too close to it
09:49 PM _unreal_: the mill ? ahhh
09:49 PM _unreal_: prob 3 months to build
11:29 PM Bleepshop: Tom_L: Just a little waste heat buildup in that spindle ? You're supposed to bolt a frying pan on top and take advantage of it. ;D
