01:10 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.vaccinespotter.org/OR/
01:17 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.nanodlp.com/nanodlp-features/ not open source since it would embarrass them
01:35 AM roycroft: oregon was scheduled to receive 80,000 j&j doses this week
01:35 AM roycroft: we're getting zero
01:36 AM roycroft: j&j have not given a reason
01:36 AM roycroft: fortunately i'm scheduled for a pfeizer
01:47 AM CaptHindsight: Merck is helping with the J&J production
02:28 AM Deejay: moin
02:56 AM bjorkintosh: j&j is late.
02:56 AM bjorkintosh: I went with pfizer.
02:56 AM XXCoder: i got vaccine appt
02:57 AM XXCoder: but not sure what vaccine it is. dont really care
04:21 AM Tom_L: morning
04:44 AM veegee: I think I understand now why I have trouble gaining weight
04:45 AM veegee: I do all the things fat people try to do like intermittent fasting, physical work, low calorie intake
04:46 AM veegee: And none of it intentionally. I'm 5'11, 160 lbs for y'all Americanos
04:46 AM veegee: need to build some muscle
04:46 AM veegee: Right now too skinny and plain
04:47 AM veegee: most of the weight I have is above average bone density and muscle density
04:49 AM bjorkintosh: has anyone encountered step-nc in the wild?
05:08 AM JT-Cave: morning
09:31 AM rue_mohr: many people using dc servodrives, if no less than via gecko?
09:32 AM gregcnc: what are you asking?
09:33 AM rue_mohr: just wondering how many people do it
09:33 AM gregcnc: yes
09:33 AM rue_mohr: it looks like everyone is trying to do massive steppers these days
09:33 AM gregcnc: they don't understand servos, and are scared of "tuning"
09:33 AM rue_mohr: mhm
09:34 AM gregcnc: i've done both gecko and torque mode dc servo
09:34 AM rue_mohr: 'torque mode'?
09:35 AM rue_mohr: as in product name of motor drive type
09:35 AM gregcnc: you'll want to research servos torque mode, velocity mode
09:35 AM rue_mohr: ok I know that
09:36 AM rue_mohr: sounded like "torque mode" was another step/dir driver for dc motors
09:36 AM gregcnc: torque mode is a common term
09:37 AM rue_mohr: yea
09:37 AM rue_mohr: context was gecko :)
09:37 AM gregcnc: right. i used AMC
09:37 AM rue_mohr: ok
09:38 AM rue_mohr: see I'v only heard of gecko, I know of a few knockoffs but nothing else official
09:39 AM gregcnc: gecko are step direction to dc servo. the AMC are analog signal with encoders to linuxcnc
09:39 AM rue_mohr: I'm seeing
09:40 AM gregcnc: gecko work fine, but if you're going to do servo let the control run them
09:40 AM rue_mohr: the fpga is closing the loop eh?
09:40 AM gregcnc: yes
09:41 AM rue_mohr: what have you found preferable, PD, PI, PID?
09:41 AM rue_mohr: I'v been impressed by what some of my proportionate onlyprojects could do
09:43 AM gregcnc: looks like I ended up with PD and some FF
09:43 AM gregcnc: well ff1 and 2
09:43 AM rue_mohr: FF = force feedback?
09:44 AM gregcnc: feed forward
09:45 AM rue_mohr: back in a whilt
10:06 AM JT-Shop: yea my pneumatics will ship in a few days... Mesa restock order here tomorrow!
10:11 AM internut_: _unreal_ I got flatcam working on my macs
10:11 AM internut_: it was a pain
11:16 AM Bleepshop: /me returns to the land of the living...
11:16 AM Bleepshop: Food poisoning is no fun... ;/
11:34 AM gregcnc: I don't know what's worse. doing it to yourself or paying for the pleasure
11:42 AM gregcnc: is the world ready for Peepsi? https://www.pepsico.com/news/press-release/pepsi-drops-limited-edition-pepsi-x-peeps-marshmallow-cola-for-spring03252021
11:52 AM roycroft: real marshmallow has a very mild flavor, too mild for the american consumer
11:52 AM roycroft: what are marketed as marshmallows are sugar and vanillin
11:53 AM roycroft: so i should imagine that the peepsi product is basically vanilla-flavored pepsi
11:53 AM roycroft: vanilla coke has been around for a long time
12:29 PM unterhaus: the fact they didn't call it Peepsi is a real failing
12:31 PM Bleepshop: Well, I gotten as far as line 1 in creating my new HAL file. "# This is computer code not an aphrodiac or a floorwax. The author will not be resposible for any waxy yellow buildup if misused."

01:10 PM Loetmichel: Harrrumph... today i am extra clumsy... Wife asked me to open a tonic water bottle with a stuck twist off cap. Twisted the whole neck of the glass bottle off... Bandaid++ Bandaid++ :(
01:12 PM roycroft: i thought you were supposed to grip the bottle cap with your teeth and then twist
01:13 PM Loetmichel: nah, just used my hands
01:13 PM Loetmichel: no idea how i managed to excert enoughforce to break a glass bottle neck clean off
01:16 PM roycroft: did she promise you something special tonight if you got the bottle open?
01:16 PM roycroft: that would inspire you
01:17 PM htasta: Loetmichel doesn't need any special motivation to hurt himself, it comes naturally to him :D
01:18 PM Loetmichel: nah, i didnt even exert an unusal force. just a stuck cap i tried to overcome

01:56 PM puff` is now known as puff
02:01 PM CaptHindsight: T-5057 Aircraft Grade Aluminum? Is this some new Chinese alloy?
02:03 PM gregcnc: Dislexalloy
02:04 PM Bleepshop: CaptHindsight: Maybe it's that really thin stuff that says "Budweiser" on the back ? ;D
02:04 PM gregcnc: Scamaluminum
02:06 PM NoGodDamnIdea: hey guys
02:09 PM JT-Shop: just screwed two shop lights to the ceiling and now the garage door clears them by a good half an inch
02:12 PM XXCoder: jt nice
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.com/sch/d2performance/m.html when they list the alloy it's T-5057
02:14 PM miss0r: 'evening
02:15 PM XXCoder: hey mis
02:17 PM miss0r: hows it hangin'?
02:17 PM * JT-Shop is missing a dewalt 20v battery... must be time to clean up
02:17 PM XXCoder: ehh that seems dangerous tap https://twitter.com/4jawjan/status/1374912893473456129
02:18 PM Nick001: it's next to your coffee cup
02:18 PM sorki is now known as srk
02:18 PM gregcnc: you're only allowed to tap like that at work
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: how else are you supposed to force it in? Use a press?
02:19 PM XXCoder: lol
02:20 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: Thats what I've always done. You saying theres a better way?! I will not hear it. Good day sir!
02:20 PM CaptHindsight: further down that page https://twitter.com/ColdLandCNC/status/1374923516122857475/photo/1
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: that is why the back of the tap handle has that little divot :)
02:22 PM miss0r: yeah :)
02:23 PM gregcnc: I still have no pump center
02:23 PM miss0r: I just place the tap in a drill chuck in the tailstock, have the tailstock clamp off and run the lathe slow with my mecanic chuck. Then when I get it in around 3 complete turns, I just grap it with a tapwrench
02:24 PM gregcnc: ^^^
02:24 PM miss0r: mecanic chuck = mechanic clutch
02:24 PM miss0r: when I grap it with a tapwrench I LOCK the spindle and turn it by hand - not a complete moron :D
02:25 PM miss0r: something close, I accept, but not full send
02:25 PM XXCoder: :D
02:26 PM * miss0r is wasting time on youtube instead of doing work.
02:26 PM miss0r: I don't even think I'm going to get anything done this evening.
02:26 PM gregcnc: watching others work or waste their time too?
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: i asked the right questions about the aluminum radiators and they took the ebay listings down
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: might be the last good things about ebay, their seller feedback scores
02:28 PM bjorkintosh: no? no step-nc experience at all anywhere?
02:28 PM XXCoder: https://www.reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/comments/mcw8og/new_pictures_from_the_suez_canal_authority_on_the/
02:28 PM bjorkintosh: examples are really hard to come by, or my google-fu is failing to come up with useful ones.
02:28 PM XXCoder: real scale on that boat dang
02:29 PM bjorkintosh: they're both constructed using cnc :-)
02:29 PM bjorkintosh: CNC. for big shit. and small shit. and tiny things.
02:30 PM gregcnc: printed houses are getting more realistic now
02:31 PM gregcnc: why is there only one excavator?
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: how often do they need one?
02:32 PM XXCoder: yeah
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: budget cuts
02:32 PM gregcnc: you'd think if they bring one they might bring a few?
02:33 PM XXCoder: greg i think its single one in-shop
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: paying to be prepared is a risk they decided to gamble on
02:33 PM gregcnc: 50+ ships per day....
02:33 PM XXCoder: like capt said how often do they need one?
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: so now the world knows to just cause a blockage in the canal to cause disruption
02:34 PM gregcnc: they don't rent them there? none for hire?
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: what if a ship sank there?
02:34 PM XXCoder: dunno, there might be risk on having more than one at same area, but then im not too sure there
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: oil prices are already going up
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: bjorkintosh: I think some in #CAM have worked with step-nc
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: maybe KimK
02:48 PM roycroft: if we would make the stuff we use right here in the usa, a canal blockage would not affect us
02:49 PM gregcnc: stop buying imports?
02:50 PM roycroft: yes, we should lessen our reliance on imported goods and services
02:52 PM miss0r: hear hear
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: all we need to do is start buying things made in our won countries, simple :)
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: won/own
02:54 PM roycroft: actually it's not quite that simple
02:54 PM gregcnc: but the global economy
02:54 PM roycroft: first we need to start making things in this country
02:55 PM roycroft: then we can start buying things made in this country
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: sure, it's a long list that has taken 40+ years to end up the way it is now
02:56 PM miss0r: Yeah
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: "but I want my cheap Chinese made stuff", change my mind
02:56 PM miss0r: cheap chinese/indian stuff is the issue imo
02:57 PM miss0r: made in plants with underpayed workforce. and in many factories the environmental impact is not something they take into account
02:58 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: it has gotten better
02:58 PM miss0r: not to mention shipping it all over the world.
02:58 PM miss0r: sure, i read the imperial chinese news too :P
02:58 PM CaptHindsight: when I was there we had to show all of our environmental plans
02:58 PM miss0r: But in all fairness, sure. it has gotten better. But theres ALOT of stuff that still needs improvement
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: but they used to just dump waste everywhere
02:59 PM bjorkintosh: thanks 20-20.
02:59 PM bjorkintosh: sorry. Capt 20-20.
02:59 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:59 PM miss0r: :]
02:59 PM XXCoder: china is starting to crack down on envorment pollution
03:00 PM XXCoder: india probably not for while
03:00 PM miss0r: well.. india has a ban on plastic straws.. and plastic bags ect
03:00 PM miss0r: basically all use once and throw out plastic articles
03:00 PM miss0r: that is a big plus
03:00 PM XXCoder: oh thats new. ban on very short life term plastic
03:00 PM roycroft: yet we do not here in the usa
03:00 PM XXCoder: tacoma banned bags but not straws
03:01 PM miss0r: Here in Denmark its impossible to enjoy a coke from burker king or mcdonalds through a plastic straw
03:01 PM gregcnc: most ocean plastic is from those places which flood annually
03:01 PM miss0r: you get those paper ones that if you don't finish your drink in a hurry, you might as well eat the straw
03:01 PM roycroft: i have a nice set of glass straws
03:02 PM roycroft: and a couple stainless steel ones for travelling
03:02 PM miss0r: I bought a set of stainless ones
03:02 PM XXCoder: mis i'd buy plastic straw, or stainless
03:02 PM miss0r: as my kids love straws :)
03:02 PM XXCoder: (not thin cheapy plastic)
03:02 PM roycroft: the glass ones are nice, because they're all different colors
03:02 PM miss0r: indeed
03:02 PM roycroft: if guests can keep track of what color their straw is they can always identify their beverage
03:02 PM miss0r: indeed
03:02 PM miss0r: I like the idea of reusable stuff
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: I though that you guys just ate herring on a stick 3x a day :p
03:03 PM miss0r: Its actualy a not so small part of my buisness model. I rebuild relays/contactors on site for my clients (The older ones, that are basically impossible to replace anyway)
03:03 PM roycroft: the us is also one of the few countries in the civilised world (assuming we're still part of that group) that does not put th onus on the manufacturers to deal with the waste products they distribute
03:04 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: if only mcdonalds had that in the drivethrough
03:04 PM gregcnc: yey or ney www.unocup.com
03:04 PM roycroft: we just tell people to be nice and recycle
03:04 PM roycroft: but most plastics that are being produced cannot be recycled
03:04 PM miss0r: which is shit
03:04 PM roycroft: and there is no incentive for manufacturers to use recyclable materials
03:05 PM miss0r: gregcnc: I can't be bothered to read all that :)
03:05 PM gregcnc: look at the pictures
03:06 PM miss0r: sure, once use items still has its use. Like toilet paper :] but one of the issues with the paper cups are that they are not actualy paper, which is easily recycleable. the issues is that they are covered with a plastic on the inside to waterproof them. That means theres only two outcomes of said cup; landfill/burn
03:07 PM gregcnc: I make coffee at home
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: it is almost as if the problems are all placed on the poor and the benefits are given to the upper and corps
03:07 PM miss0r: looks like the coffee will end up in my lap
03:08 PM miss0r: gregcnc: I make coffee at home as well. But more often that not, sadly, I end up not having the time in the morning/forgetting till it is too late. Then I grap a cup at the local gasstation on the way
03:10 PM roycroft: but this is america, capthindsight
03:10 PM roycroft: that cannot be
03:11 PM roycroft: we look out for the poor
03:11 PM roycroft: because we are nice people
03:11 PM gregcnc: boil grind pour. if lazy, right over the coffee. otherwise I'm on my third? aeropress
03:12 PM miss0r: Meh. I've stopped drinking coffee after 3 in the afternoon.
03:12 PM miss0r: Unless I have something that will drag into the night
03:13 PM gregcnc: lolz if real https://youtu.be/t5IKbYcLgQA
03:15 PM miss0r: lemme just say, I called what he was drawing at around 15sec in :D
03:15 PM * miss0r should not be proud of that
03:20 PM XXCoder: i just dont drink coffee lol
03:21 PM gregcnc: tap water?
03:21 PM XXCoder: for breakfast, soylent and banana
03:21 PM miss0r: I mean, a breakfast for me is equally imperfect if you take out either of 4 elements; bread, bacon, egg & coffee
03:22 PM miss0r: realy?
03:22 PM gregcnc: https://www.reddit.com/r/YUROP/comments/kgnrir/american_breakfast_as_envisioned_by_a_european/
03:22 PM miss0r: hahaaha
03:23 PM XXCoder: mis yeah nothing complex needed
03:23 PM miss0r: replace the gun with a slingshow (no rubber band, cause that would be illegal) and you have my breakfast
03:23 PM XXCoder: lol greg
03:23 PM XXCoder: "3 pieces of toast? Bit much, don’t you think?"
03:23 PM miss0r: hehe
03:23 PM XXCoder: "That’s what gun‘s for to avoid the huge medical bill: you just shoot yourself once you feel the heart attack coming from all that unhealthy breakfast"
03:25 PM gregcnc: there are countless additions to this. The most obvious is that the coffee should be black and I agree, unless it something atrocious like instant then it has to be candied
03:25 PM miss0r: This is a brakefast I like to make in the weekends: https://imgur.com/a/DeHAOgU
03:26 PM miss0r: (bread in an insulated cloth bag outside of frame)
03:26 PM gregcnc: we had crepes for dinner last night
03:26 PM miss0r: sweet
03:26 PM miss0r: I love makes crepes. I actualy bought a special pan for it :)
03:27 PM XXCoder: mis nice! so when will i get it?
03:27 PM gregcnc: av-AH-ka-doo
03:27 PM miss0r: I don't make crepes often, but when I do I make LOTS AND LOTS!
03:27 PM miss0r: XXCoder: People have tried to touch my breakfast... They don't anymore.
03:28 PM miss0r: Unless its my kids. Then I get a cup of coffee from what you see there. IF I'm lucky
03:28 PM XXCoder: 6 feet down buried now eh ;)
03:28 PM miss0r: XXCoder: I've never actualy measured how far it is to the bottom of the swamp I live near...
03:28 PM gregcnc: now you understand the gun
03:28 PM XXCoder: lol
03:28 PM XXCoder: lol mis
03:29 PM miss0r: also, notice the grilled mushrooms and homemade hashbrows :)
03:29 PM FinboySlick: miss0r: The staples are what held the crepes together?
03:29 PM gregcnc: those look like potato pancakes
03:29 PM miss0r: FinboySlick: Hey! my crepes are perfect, its for the eggs
03:30 PM gregcnc: I'm master breakfast maker here
03:30 PM miss0r: gregcnc: Well, Its just po-ta-to.. nothing else in it
03:30 PM FinboySlick: Looks very yummy. I'd accept a breakfast invitation without hesitation.
03:30 PM gregcnc: yes, but finely ground or like micro fries?
03:31 PM miss0r: I guess..? yeah
03:31 PM miss0r: does that make it pancakes? :D
03:31 PM FinboySlick: I like spreading brown sugar on my crepes and making surary spiral rolls.
03:31 PM miss0r: I use jam and white sugar
03:31 PM gregcnc: yes, being polish i've eaten my fair share of potato pancakes
03:32 PM FinboySlick: Very good job on the eggs too.
03:32 PM miss0r: FinboySlick: Not if you ask a proper chef.
03:32 PM miss0r: I like the bottom of my eggs crisp from the baconfat on the pan
03:32 PM gregcnc: I make pancake (singular) often. one pan size cake, with whatever fruit is at hand
03:32 PM miss0r: nice
03:33 PM miss0r: I sometimes make "egg cake" I don't know what else to call it :)
03:33 PM FinboySlick: Only critique I would have is that bacon looks like it could be a bit more crunchy.
03:33 PM gregcnc: oh and Kroppsua, hmm it's been a while
03:33 PM miss0r: but that is basically a bunch of eggs and a bit of full cream, put it ina pan at low heat so it gets bakes through without burning, and float crispy bacon on the top
03:34 PM FinboySlick: miss0r: Probably qualifies as an omelette in most places.
03:34 PM miss0r: FinboySlick: Yeah.. well, my bacon taste changes a bit back and forth. some days I like it crunchy AF, while other days I like it a big more savory
03:34 PM miss0r: FinboySlick. In which case, I don't like "most places" :D
03:34 PM plndra is now known as plundra
03:34 PM miss0r: an omelette needs to be soft in the middle
03:35 PM miss0r: damn. I'm getting hungry here ! :-/
03:42 PM miss0r: fsck it. I'm going to make some bacon. Cya
04:02 PM JT-Shop: every time I drag tools out to work on the firewood shed it starts to rain...
04:05 PM XXCoder: lol
04:06 PM XXCoder: clouds knows
04:06 PM XXCoder: ;)
04:17 PM * JT-Shop found the 20v battery... time to quit cleaning the machine shop
04:17 PM XXCoder: lol
04:18 PM XXCoder: hey can you find that special tool for special machine somewhere?
04:18 PM XXCoder: you need to keep cleaning till you find that thing
04:34 PM _unreal_: wow got a PM from a SERVER op... I think its been 10 years since I've gotten a PM from a server OP.
04:35 PM _unreal_: NoGodDamnIdea, any news?
04:43 PM _unreal_: well not to lively I'm going for a shower
04:45 PM infornography: ok, unreal is gone. We can continue.
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I just put that on ignore
04:53 PM * JT-Shop is stuck in the shop for a bit while Junior eats a bowl of corn
04:54 PM XXCoder: jt yeah me too
05:00 PM _unreal_: peekabooo
05:00 PM _unreal_: bowl of corn? GOD I have not had raw corn of the cob fresh offf the stock in for ever
05:01 PM _unreal_: I use to love that
05:01 PM _unreal_: I'd end up raping dental floss but other then that ;)
05:04 PM XXCoder: unblocked for a min. casual rape reference. aaand blocked again
05:06 PM JT-Shop: yea some people are just intolerable
05:06 PM JT-Shop: IIRC I have two ignores
05:07 PM XXCoder: omg including me?
05:07 PM XXCoder: ;)
05:09 PM XXCoder: jt i printed a planetary gear and its cool lol
05:09 PM XXCoder: great fidget toy
05:09 PM XXCoder: it can only be 3d printed.
05:09 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, what the ratio?
05:09 PM XXCoder: you cant make it by milling
05:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:14 PM JT-Shop: it's pretty cool you can print stuff you can't make other wise
05:14 PM Tom_L: evening
05:14 PM XXCoder: yeah its fun
05:14 PM XXCoder: you COULD make this but with some tricks
05:14 PM XXCoder: like cut parts in half and have bolts
05:14 PM XXCoder: then hide bolts
05:15 PM Tom_L: glue guns are made for ppl that draw cad drawings that can't be machined
05:15 PM XXCoder: if you can manage to blend seams out then its amazing
05:15 PM gregcnc: but they are only slightly stronger than cheddar cheese
05:15 PM XXCoder: https://www.me.uk/puzzlebox/
05:15 PM XXCoder: i want to make this!
05:17 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, that puzzel box looks nifty
05:18 PM XXCoder: JT-Shop: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451 this is what i printed big version of
05:18 PM XXCoder: printing regular size now
05:18 PM gregcnc: herringbone gear planetary
05:19 PM XXCoder: yep
05:20 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, you saw those i posted printed with ti?
05:22 PM XXCoder: no? is it in there>
05:22 PM XXCoder: 937 makes LOL
05:22 PM XXCoder: whats your acct
05:24 PM Tom_L: i can't find em now but they're on my server somewhere
05:24 PM XXCoder: :) ok
05:24 PM gregcnc: metal version of those puzzles https://youtu.be/U_rMknCVcyI
05:24 PM XXCoder: i want to see it evenually
05:24 PM XXCoder: greg nice
05:27 PM JT-Shop: high tech rubic cube
05:40 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/threading/prints/Ti_print2.jpg
05:41 PM Tom_L: printed as the assembly you see
05:50 PM NoGodDamnIdea: _unreal_, yeah your filters made the switches not work
05:50 PM NoGodDamnIdea: without it they work
05:51 PM _unreal_: o,O
05:51 PM _unreal_: I find that hard to believe. got a picture of the filter ciruit?
05:52 PM _unreal_: and the pcb if you used one?
05:54 PM NoGodDamnIdea: i dont have any, but will take some tomorrow
06:02 PM JT-Cave: printed all at once?
06:03 PM Tom_L: yes
06:03 PM Tom_L: titanium
