12:13 AM bjorkintosh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzfCNQatw00
12:20 AM XXCoder: friend of mine tried to apply there but failed to get in
12:20 AM XXCoder: hes partially blind and deaf
12:21 AM bjorkintosh: it's quite impressive. until now, I couldn't imagine a blind person machining.
12:21 AM bjorkintosh: let alone working in a damned shop. the place is so clean!!
12:21 AM XXCoder: its extremely important to be clean
12:22 AM bjorkintosh: tell that to the shot blasters.
12:22 AM XXCoder: that place, careless placing of tool can get you fired
12:23 AM bjorkintosh: I'd love to see their safety handbook.
12:23 AM XXCoder: or hear it i guess
12:45 AM roycroft: blacksmithing while blind would be even more interesting
12:46 AM roycroft: and probably nigh on impossible to do
12:46 AM XXCoder: yeah you'd need to feel and look at color
12:46 AM XXCoder: feel to know shape before hammering. while its not. not possible
12:47 AM XXCoder: color to know how hot it is before starting work
12:47 AM roycroft: watching the color would be the impossible part
12:47 AM XXCoder: not really
12:47 AM XXCoder: theres range of blindness
12:47 AM XXCoder: pure blind its impossible of course
12:47 AM roycroft: sure
12:48 AM roycroft: some forms of vision impairment might allow it
12:48 AM roycroft: while still being legally defined as blind
12:48 AM XXCoder: theres deaf who enjoy music due to traces of hearing left
12:48 AM XXCoder: me, im one of rare 100% deaf.
12:49 AM roycroft: you can still sort of "hear", though, can't you
12:49 AM XXCoder: nope. only feeling
12:49 AM roycroft: by sensing vibrations with your skin
12:49 AM XXCoder: yeah thats not what I mean by "traces"
12:49 AM roycroft: right
12:50 AM roycroft: you don't "hear" with your auditory nerve at all
12:50 AM bjorkintosh: what do you hear with?
12:51 AM roycroft: i should think you could sense music to a degree if there are loud bass notes
12:51 AM roycroft: but i obviously don't know what i'm talking about
12:52 AM roycroft: i'm just conjecturing
12:52 AM bjorkintosh: you can feel it if you're touching a speaker or something.
12:52 AM bjorkintosh: but I doubt it's the same. I wouldn't know.
01:27 AM Deejay: moin
01:38 AM CaptHindsight: $3600 https://wegstr.com/CNC-Wegstr-(English)
01:41 AM bjorkintosh: looks fancy.
01:52 AM miss0r: CaptHindsight: I see we've run into the same youtube algorithm.. I've looked at his videos only since yesterday :D
01:54 AM miss0r: I like his PCB auto level. I make PCBs with isolation milling sometimes on my RolandDG PCN-3100, but I am forced to only use Bundgaard PCBs, as they are the only brand I have found with consistent enough thickness to make a proper result
01:57 AM miss0r: the only thing i've noticed that is off with that machine of his, is the lack of stability in the spindle. It has a tendency to suck the endmills to one side when entering the material. other than that is looks realy nice
02:00 AM CaptHindsight: miss0r: somebody posted it in a different channel
02:01 AM CaptHindsight: how much would a similar sized be worth that also did through vias and maybe 4 layers?
02:01 AM CaptHindsight: similar sized printer for PCB's
02:28 AM mrec: does anyone have experience with single flute endmills for acrylic?
02:29 AM mrec: I have two here which aren't really sharp, I wonder if a sharper one would perform better
02:29 AM XXCoder: i do know arylic needs more cooling because it can fuse if too hot, but not as bad as hdpe or nylon
02:29 AM XXCoder: hmm very sharp needed I think but not sure
02:29 AM mrec: I have no problem with the cutting part it works properly I just wonder if a sharper one would perform better... and if someone can recommend a particular endmill
02:33 AM mrec: I cut 2.5mm @ 300mm/min
02:37 AM sensille: mrec: out of curiosity, i'm going to cut acrylic later this day and never have done it, what RPM do you use? i have a 3mm single flute endmill
02:38 AM sensille: and do you cut dry?
02:39 AM mrec: 2000 RPM - 2.5mm / 300mm/min
02:39 AM enleth: sensille: WD-40 works very well as a coolant for acrylic
02:39 AM mrec: if I do multiple passes over the acrylic it doesn't look nice with the single flute
02:40 AM mrec: single flute won't lift the sheet up that easy
02:40 AM enleth: stuff comes out more transparent at the cut when flooded with WD-40
02:40 AM mrec: I had a 2 flute (RIP) and a 4 flute (good endmills) but they easily lift the sheets
02:40 AM mrec: acrylic with wd-40?
02:40 AM mrec: acryllic easily scratches
02:40 AM enleth: yep, sounds strange but it works
02:40 AM mrec: acrylic*
02:41 AM enleth: clean it out with air gun instead of wiping to avoid scratches
02:42 AM mrec: as mentioned I have no thermal issues or other issues at all
02:42 AM mrec: the endmill is just not sharp (compared with the 2/4 flute endmill) which I have here
02:42 AM enleth: for the lifting problem, look for downcutting endmills
02:42 AM mrec: the single flute was 1$ the 2/4flute 20$ ..
02:42 AM enleth: they do trade lifting for chip packing, of course
02:43 AM mrec: the upcut single flute is no problem for acryl
02:44 AM mrec: I'd just like to have an upcut which is as sharp as the 2/4flute bits
02:44 AM mrec: unfortunately the local dealers don't seem to have that here it seems
02:59 AM sensille: question from beginner to the pros: do these chips look ok? https://i.imgur.com/i0vMgd1.jpg
02:59 AM XXCoder: it seems ok, its not powder
02:59 AM XXCoder: i see some chatter
02:59 AM XXCoder: maybe try a bit less depth of cut for less chatter? not too sure on that
02:59 AM XXCoder: errm not delth
02:59 AM XXCoder: how much it bites
02:59 AM XXCoder: *depth
03:03 AM sensille: so like reducing the feed from 1200 to 1000mm/min?
03:04 AM XXCoder: or cutting less
03:04 AM XXCoder: careful not to make powder, it'll dull tool faster
03:05 AM sensille: so less depth? that was 0.15mm
03:05 AM XXCoder: nah less bite
03:05 AM XXCoder: ie tool is less closer to side
03:05 AM enleth: sensille: width of cut, sideways engagement
03:05 AM XXCoder: thanks for better words
03:06 AM sensille: hm. stepover?
03:06 AM enleth: yes, the same thing
03:06 AM XXCoder: you could do a rough cut at whatever you set it at, then do final pass enough to clear out chatter
03:06 AM XXCoder: calculating what is good for clearing chatter is exercise for you heh
03:07 AM sensille: that was the roughing pass with automatic stepover (f360 pocket clearing)
03:07 AM XXCoder: hmmif it clears out at end then its good setup
03:07 AM sensille: ok, thanks :)
03:08 AM enleth: although eliminating chatter on roughing passes does help increase tool life
03:08 AM sensille: that's how the result looked like last time: https://i.imgur.com/qkFnNjW.jpg
03:08 AM XXCoder: yep enl
03:09 AM XXCoder: its tool bending and unbending that causes chatter in some, some is frame itself moving
03:10 AM enleth: even if it's the machine bending, chatter is pretty much micro-scale interrupted cut
03:10 AM enleth: not good for the cutting edges
03:14 AM enleth: OTOH it might be almost impossible to eliminate on a bendy milling plotter, so a valid solution is to use cheap shit endmills for roughing and ignore the fact that they're getting beat up
03:16 AM sensille: good idea
03:16 AM * sensille orders some from china
03:19 AM enleth: BTW, some quickly evaporating solvents work as coolants/lubricants for cutting aluminum, so you're not restricted to cutting completely dry even on that machine
03:19 AM XXCoder: can always use mister too
03:19 AM enleth: notably, high concentration ethanol works well
03:20 AM sensille: or IPA? i think Loetmichel uses IPA on these machines
03:20 AM XXCoder: one of my earlier jobs I used nature safe coolant with mister
03:20 AM XXCoder: easy enough to mix up and pour in container
03:20 AM enleth: yep, it all really boils down to what you can get cheaper
03:21 AM enleth: in some areas, industrial ethanol, poisoned or contaminated with something extremely foul-tasting, is cheaper than IPA
03:22 AM sensille: "spiritus"
03:22 AM enleth: (the latter doesn't stop bums from trying to filter it through a slice of bread, so it's no as easy to get in some places)
03:22 AM enleth: *not as
03:44 AM Loetmichel: sensille: i mostly use a 50:50 mix of water and IPA with a single drop of dish detergent for cooling alu while milling
03:45 AM Loetmichel: works pretty well, leaves no stains
04:05 AM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/gallery/YRmGoSp 2” power tapping!
04:05 AM CaptHindsight: ~51mm
04:05 AM XXCoder: huge
04:05 AM XXCoder: that big i'd rather do thred milling
04:07 AM XXCoder: orginiL LINK https://youtu.be/OQR32SWkxOg
04:15 AM enleth: the tap is definitely faster *if* you have a hydraulic tapping head
04:15 AM XXCoder: true, i wouldnt try that on spindle even strong ones'
04:16 AM enleth: few milling machines could do that, if any
04:17 AM enleth: tool life is probably better, too
04:18 AM XXCoder: yeah thopugh I wonder why not back off 1/4 turn each rotation
04:18 AM Tom_L: morning
04:18 AM enleth: spiral taps don't need that
04:18 AM XXCoder: hmm ok
04:19 AM enleth: they feed the chips up
04:20 AM enleth: backing off is needed on traditional straight flute taps
04:21 AM Tom_L: heck, my sherline can do that :)
05:04 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:04 AM XXCoder: yo
06:31 AM Loetmichel: *giggle* just got a call from a coworker that does a saturday shift... "Your three 3d-printers are done. Do you want me to free the print beds?" "Eyup, gimme a moment to start the webcams"... *looking at him clean the parts off the PEI beds...* *starts three new sets of monitor corners* ... remote hands are nice sometimes! ;)
06:31 AM XXCoder: nice
06:45 AM gloops: 6 months out with back injury now..jeez
06:46 AM gloops: *might* be ready to start up in a couple of weeks
06:46 AM XXCoder: ouch
06:46 AM XXCoder: also hey
06:47 AM gloops: hi!
06:49 AM XXCoder: back pain sucks
06:49 AM gloops: yeah, was bad for the first couple of months, now apparently neurological
06:53 AM gloops: i.e injury healed ages ago, brain learned to produce pain on movement, theres no actual damaged tissue now lol
06:54 AM XXCoder: bleh
06:55 AM gloops: so, when you try bending, it kills, but you have to persuade yourself nothing is about to snap - its just a habit the brain picked up
06:55 AM gloops: until it forgets
07:30 AM unterhaus_: I did neurofeedback until the plague hit. Wonder if that would help
07:45 AM sensille: FDM might help, too (from typaldos)
07:47 AM gloops: well, i guess i may as well try working it off for a while
07:50 AM gloops: the dodgy thing with this, there is no xrays or MRI scans, like no proof of anything, their attitude sounds almost dismissive
07:51 AM gloops: would be a bit more confident working it if there was evidence that there was nothing seriously wrong
08:27 AM _unreal_: just got me a $4 raise at work :)
08:28 AM bjorkintosh: how?
08:28 AM bjorkintosh: that's just unreal!
08:28 AM gloops: apple polishing
08:28 AM bjorkintosh: apple polishing??
08:29 AM gloops: NOUN
08:29 AM gloops: NORTH AMERICAN
08:29 AM gloops: informal
08:29 AM gloops: a person who behaves obsequiously to someone important.
08:31 AM _unreal_: hehe I told my company I'm going to leave..
08:32 AM _unreal_: they litteraly can NOT survive with out me. I'm the only one who is a maser glassman...
08:32 AM gloops: always a bit of a gamble lol
08:33 AM gloops: glassman as in fibreglass?
08:33 AM _unreal_: yes
08:33 AM _unreal_: I work on luxxury yachts
08:33 AM _unreal_: south florida
08:33 AM gloops: ahh right, yeah i remember you saying you work on yachts
08:33 AM _unreal_: oh the shit those boats throw a wawy
08:34 AM _unreal_: away
08:34 AM _unreal_: wtf computer keeps pausing
08:34 AM gloops: enough bits to build a cnc
08:34 AM _unreal_: ?
08:34 AM _unreal_: bits?
08:34 AM gloops: some handy parts for a cnc - thrown away?
08:34 AM _unreal_: better yet
08:34 AM _unreal_: luxury items
08:35 AM _unreal_: I got a miele expresso machine last year worth $3k
08:35 AM _unreal_: perfect condition, they got a new one with a touch screen lol
08:35 AM _unreal_: got a jet ski powered hoverboard woth $4k new
08:35 AM _unreal_: bot a BLOB water launch worth about $2k
08:35 AM _unreal_: they just throw this shit a way
08:35 AM gloops: i bet you get to deal with those millionaires wives a lot too, hubbies are always away on business
08:36 AM _unreal_: never see them
08:36 AM _unreal_: only the project managers or captains
08:36 AM gloops: shame, i imaged them all laid around on the boats in bikinis
08:36 AM _unreal_: ya in the bahamas or the big show marinas in the miamis etc...
08:37 AM _unreal_: and keys
08:37 AM _unreal_: the owners of the luxury boats only show up where the boat is in a "PRETTY" setting
08:37 AM _unreal_: almost never see them at the "dirty" boat yard CLEAN AS CAN BE but regardless
08:38 AM gloops: yeah beneath them to deal with maintenance and stuff
08:38 AM _unreal_: they pay people to do that
08:39 AM gloops: well, sounds a steady enough job anyway
08:39 AM _unreal_: fake pandemic proof
08:40 AM _unreal_: people live on boats they are at times there "homes" cant shut us down
08:41 AM _unreal_: same idea as fire firghters cant shut them down
08:43 AM gloops: yeah key workers, supermarket staff, postal workers
08:56 AM gloops: looking like this is here for a while yet, new variants every week, now got the Finnish variant
08:56 AM gloops: doesnt show up in tests
09:05 AM gloops: which could be a major problem lol
12:17 PM bjorkintosh: _unreal_, have you acquired a vitamix or a blendtec from the luxury discards yet?
12:17 PM bjorkintosh: (vitamix is life)
12:42 PM unterhaus_: someone I know hired someone to fix his post processor for a hurco and the guy went to a forum and asked if anyone had one
12:43 PM Tom_L: heh
12:50 PM _unreal_: vitamix?
12:51 PM _unreal_: bjorkintosh, I'm sure its happend I just never was the luck person near that boat at the time
12:52 PM bjorkintosh: vitamix is life. others are blenderes.
12:52 PM bjorkintosh: *blenders.
02:05 PM _unreal_: oso I need to make a simple logic inverter
03:00 PM JT-Shop: went to start the splitter up and the damn B&S engine backfired and blew up the bendix on the starter again... don't think I have any more starters laying around
03:03 PM _unreal_: ok what a pain in the as just finished designing an inverter so I can drive the signals
03:03 PM _unreal_: on this laser grbl controller
03:18 PM JT-Shop: $130... I'll go look real good to make sure I'm out of starters
03:45 PM Tom_L: kinda hard on equipment there...
03:46 PM JavaBean: its a B&S... i have heard many times that they are bad for that
04:32 PM JT-Shop: yea pushing the start button...
04:32 PM JT-Shop: too hard I guess...
05:02 PM Tom_L: what's a 'standard' thread class? 2A 3A?
05:02 PM Tom_L: or b
05:04 PM Tom_L: 2A 2B
05:10 PM JT-Shop: I think A and B are internal and external or the other way round
05:11 PM JT-Shop: hmmm a 500cc electric start B&S is only $535... should have got that instead of a $130 starter
05:12 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:12 PM Tom_L: 2 is more common than 3
05:14 PM JT-Shop: is 2 a loose fit?
05:14 PM Tom_L: 1 is a slop fit
05:15 PM Tom_L: 2 is regular and 3 is precision i believe
05:15 PM JT-Shop: too lazy to open up the Machinery Hand Book large print edition
05:15 PM Tom_L: i looked
05:15 PM Tom_L: i need one of those
05:15 PM Tom_L: have the regular print :)
05:15 PM JT-Shop: yeah the large print is nice
05:16 PM JT-Shop: it's twice the size of the std version
05:16 PM Tom_L: thicker?
05:16 PM Tom_L: or just bigger overall
05:16 PM Tom_L: wish it came in pdf but that would be huge
05:17 PM JT-Shop: pages are twice as big
05:17 PM Tom_L: https://www.vtc1.org/cms/lib/PA03000913/Centricity/Domain/21/Machinerys%20Handbook%2029th%20Edition.pdf
05:17 PM Tom_L: wow
05:17 PM Tom_L: maybe i should save that
05:17 PM JT-Shop: pages are like 10" x 8" or so
05:18 PM Tom_L: 29th edition
05:18 PM JT-Shop: my big print is the 28th edition
05:19 PM Tom_L: i got 25 regular
05:19 PM JT-Shop: I can't even look now I'm being throttled
05:19 PM Tom_L: with a ready reference spiral bound
05:19 PM Tom_L: i know but you may want that later
05:19 PM Tom_L: 3915 pages
05:20 PM Tom_L: 25kb
05:28 PM Tom_L: saved 27 too
05:30 PM Tom_L: wish i could find 25 pdf so i can find it in the book then zoom with the pdf
05:32 PM JT-Shop: I put that starter back together... find out tomorrow if it still works a few times.
05:57 PM Tom_L: you've had your share of starter problems lately
06:00 PM JT-Cave: yea that's for sure, not the first time the Intek blew up the bendix
06:00 PM JT-Cave: wish I knew how to stop it from back firing
06:01 PM JT-Cave: I have 4 more 190cc engines on the shelf
06:24 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NICE-FEDERAL-DIMENSIONAIR-000020-AIR-GAGE-BORE-GAGE-EAG-DIGITAL/123903260989?hash=item1cd935b93d:g:V9kAAOSwlWldeB6P
06:24 PM Tom_L: anyone ever use these?
06:26 PM XXCoder: i saw similiar at work
06:26 PM XXCoder: its ver easy to use apparently, but you need gage bores
06:27 PM XXCoder: you set it using gage bore, then you measure stuff
06:27 PM Tom_L: yeah you need a bore for each hole you test
06:27 PM XXCoder: yep. they have bunch of certified bore sizes
06:31 PM XXCoder: its good if you make lot of parts
06:31 PM XXCoder: because its very fast
06:31 PM Tom_L: and accurate
06:31 PM XXCoder: yep
06:32 PM XXCoder: qa have few last I was there, and they had spool-like parts that they make 3,000 batches often enough
06:32 PM XXCoder: it requires 100% measure being very sensive part
06:33 PM XXCoder: while its always last priority, some qa guy can go there and go brrr on measuring when nothing else
07:28 PM zeeshan: air comparators are cool
07:33 PM XXCoder: yo
07:41 PM zeeshan: howdy
09:04 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest96289
11:58 PM veegee: If it's anything I've learned about charging lead acid, it's that equalization is extremely important for flooded
11:58 PM veegee: and most chargers don't charge enough
11:59 PM veegee: The only way I've been able to get the electrolyte density to 1.275 on all cells is my own custom charging algorithm using a computer controlled lab power supply
11:59 PM veegee: The Noco chargers are just as shitty as the rest
