#linuxcnc Calendar

01:53 AM Deejay: moin
04:01 AM lag: Is this the most up-to-date version of the manual tool change macro?
04:01 AM lag: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ManualToolChangeMacro
04:01 AM lag: It seems to do what I want i.e. allow Z touch-off after a tool change
05:38 AM Tom_L: morning
05:39 AM XXCoder: hy
07:52 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:54 AM JT-Cave: well crap I'm getting forbidden on the debian download page https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/images-including-firmware/weekly-live-builds/amd64/iso-hybrid/
07:54 AM JT-Cave: anyone else get this?
07:55 AM XXCoder: same
07:55 AM JT-Cave: thanks
07:55 AM XXCoder: np
08:47 AM JT-Cave: just signed us up for the second covid shot
08:52 AM norias: neat
08:53 AM norias: my wife got one, no second yet
08:53 AM JT-Cave: this time will be much better only 150 per half hour is allowed in the building
08:53 AM norias: cool
08:54 AM norias: i got the anthrax one back in the day
08:54 AM norias: that was fun
09:09 AM unterhaus_: supposed to get another 8" of snow this week. The little dog is not going to be happy
09:14 AM JavaBean: make sure you add a flag to the poor furkid, just so you can find em
09:41 AM perry_j1987: morning
09:43 AM jymmmm: morning
09:43 AM Tom_L: hi
09:46 AM JT-Cave: morning
09:55 AM perry_j1987: got my new id thread cutting tool
09:55 AM perry_j1987: opted to buy one this time instead of hand griding (what a pain) lol
09:56 AM perry_j1987: so today im going to head over to the shop and drill some holes in these gang blocks i made the other day and add some setscrews and get these things going
10:21 AM unterhaus_: whoever owned this machine linked by Andy on the ML had a thing for slitting saws https://www.ebay.com/itm/353246842626
10:34 AM perry_j1987: an arbor?
10:42 AM unterhaus_: there are 10 slitting saw tool holders included in the auction
10:45 AM unterhaus_: that's a lot like a deckel
10:45 AM Tom_L: those are wide to be slitting saws
10:47 AM Tom_L: but there _are_ quite a few
10:48 AM unterhaus_: here is an 'o' so you can change it to "slotting"
10:48 AM Tom_L: ty
10:48 AM Tom_L: :)
10:49 AM unterhaus_: seems like Deckels sometimes have a horizontal spindle
10:50 AM Tom_L: that one does
10:50 AM unterhaus_: yeah, see it now, it was hiding
10:51 AM unterhaus_: wonder if it works. If I was going to cut slots I would use a horizontal arbor
10:51 AM Tom_L: that appears to be what he used it for alot
10:51 AM Tom_L: my guess would be 'yes'
10:52 AM unterhaus_: Quebec and 550v are big turnoffs though
10:53 AM Tom_L: yeah, who uses 550v?
11:01 AM perry_j1987: man its -6 out right now
11:01 AM perry_j1987: dont want to go out to the shop lol
11:22 AM Tom_L: cloudy and 15F here
11:28 AM unterhaus_: 29F here, maybe I'll put shoes on to shovel the driveway though
11:28 AM perry_j1987: lol
11:28 AM perry_j1987: think yo uguys are all fancy in your t-shirt weather lol
11:31 AM Tom_L: shorts n flipflops with a broom :)
11:32 AM perry_j1987: lol
11:33 AM perry_j1987: so in fusion360 i see option checkbox for manual tool change
11:33 AM perry_j1987: if i dont check that will linuxcnc not do that popup too lchange window
11:33 AM perry_j1987: looking at setting up some gangtool compatible gcode to play with
11:34 AM Tom_L: dunno
11:34 AM Tom_L: output a file and see if it has an M6
11:35 AM Tom_L: i do mine normally and preset my tools
11:35 AM Tom_L: it has to signal a tool change somehow and M6 is the only one i know of
11:36 AM Tom_L: unless f360 would add a M0 or something
11:40 AM Tom_L: which would be silly
11:41 AM perry_j1987: when googling i just ran into threads of people hacking hal to disable the prompts
11:41 AM perry_j1987: https://www.forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/36174-lathe-w-gang-tooling-tool-change
11:41 AM perry_j1987: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/26-turning/30727-gang-tooling-auto-tool-change#72637
11:43 AM Tom_L: you'd have to change the tool pretty quick if there was no pause
11:44 AM Tom_L: or that could go all sorts of wrong
11:45 AM perry_j1987: aye i didnt want to hack around heh cause i also use the qctp heh
11:46 AM Tom_L: my tool changes are manual but after changing i do push a button
11:47 AM W1N9Zr0: yup, the way to get rid of the popup is to disconnect the manualtoolchange component. if you want to mix manual tool changes with gang tooling, you can create your own component that talks to manualtoolchange for specific tools, and ignores it for others
11:47 AM Tom_L: that would almost have to be on a per program basis
11:48 AM perry_j1987: im not adverse to still hitting the button. they are fast ops i wont be away from the machine anyhow
11:49 AM Tom_L: you can always have a remote 'toolchange' button
11:49 AM Tom_L: i have one on my pendant
11:56 AM perry_j1987: aye
11:57 AM perry_j1987: so i guess i just gotta go drill some appropriately sized holes to hold these drill bits and such and add some setscrew holes and start playing with small gangtool setups
11:58 AM Tom_L: you might put something behind the drill so it doesn't push back too
11:59 AM Tom_L: i've used setscrews in the past but also found sometimes they can slip
12:00 PM perry_j1987: interesting thought
12:00 PM Tom_L: i just didn't drill the hole all the way thru the holder
12:00 PM perry_j1987: i could put a setscrew in the back to make it adjustable
12:00 PM perry_j1987: i was planning on just not drilling all the way through
12:00 PM Tom_L: any number of solutions..
12:01 PM perry_j1987: then i was also considering little bump on the bench grinder to make a flat for the setscrew to grab on
12:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Jacobs_chuck/Chuck_adapter3.jpg
12:01 PM Tom_L: i made a couple of those for drills
12:01 PM Tom_L: since my holders thread on the spindle
12:01 PM perry_j1987: nice
12:02 PM perry_j1987: i made a drill chuck holder from a boring bar holder for this 0xa tool post
12:02 PM perry_j1987: but im almost certain the two dovetails are not 90 degrees from eachother
12:03 PM perry_j1987: if i sweep in the drill chuck holder then i can drill holes but putting a grooving tool on the other side pushes up a bur cause its out of square from the part
12:17 PM unterhaus_: I want to make a guitar that can be smashed and then put back together. Thinking of holding it together with magnets
12:17 PM unterhaus_: where is a good place to get strong magnets?
12:22 PM perry_j1987: amazon or ebay
12:31 PM _unreal_: There an other one of the I dont want to and I dont have a choice projects is now done
12:31 PM _unreal_: laser etcher stuff
12:32 PM _unreal_: currently I'm designing the FRONT main control panel with the ESTOP grbl ctrl buttons, mains power and mains laser safety kill key switch
12:39 PM Tom_L: unterhaus_, https://www.magnetshop.com/neodymium-magnet
02:08 PM veegee: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1537481858
02:08 PM veegee: Look at this gem I just found
02:08 PM veegee: If it's a variable piston pump, I'm insta buying it
02:09 PM veegee: it has 4 monster motors
02:09 PM veegee: Like just that alone is worth the price.
02:09 PM veegee: On top of that, fully functioning hydraulic system. I could vaccinate so many people with high pressure hydraulic fluid with this thing!!
02:23 PM net|: looks expensive to fix and kinda overkill for anything personal use
02:23 PM net|: https://www.freelancer.com/projects/cplusplus-programming/Security-29157674/details working on this myself
02:29 PM Loetmichel: Oh MAAAN. Good thing that i have two cars. Emergency visit at the Sisters place for UPS repair... Lost my BMW 318i Convertible key... searched for an hour in the house to no avail. Had to use the BMW 525i Station wagon... that sat for 7 months. Battery: totally empty. And then i was 2 hours late because of that and ice rain. I just returned home 8 hours later :(
02:29 PM Loetmichel: Why does murphy always happen when you are in a hurry?
02:29 PM Tom_L: she's just like that
03:08 PM unterhaus_: well, my run of good luck with USPS is over, zero out of 2 shipments this week
04:03 PM roycroft: today is one of my favorite days of the year, especially in pandemic times
04:03 PM roycroft: the day i can go to the home improvement stores and they will be virtually empty
04:03 PM roycroft: the roads will be empty
04:03 PM roycroft: the supermakets will be empty
04:04 PM roycroft: unfortunately i did most of my errands yesterday, though
04:05 PM XXCoder: fancy
04:05 PM roycroft: unfortuantely, though, two of my neighbors are having superspreader parties
04:06 PM XXCoder: :(
04:07 PM roycroft: i live in the reddest part of town, so it's not surprising
04:07 PM XXCoder: church nearby had over 100 cars on xmas
04:07 PM XXCoder: and still many cars each sunday
04:10 PM roycroft: yeah, we have that stuff around here
04:11 PM roycroft: the churches have to keep the cash flowing in
04:13 PM roycroft: i don't know what time that football game starts, but there are already a lot of extra cars parked on the street by my house
04:14 PM XXCoder: uhh isnt football season ended
04:15 PM roycroft: i don't know when football season is these days, but today is the superbowl
04:15 PM roycroft: hence the superspreader parties
04:15 PM XXCoder: superspreader superbowl
04:25 PM roycroft: anyway, time to shoot some paint
04:25 PM roycroft: i made a couple turntables this morning to make it easier to rotate my parts when painting them without having to touch them
04:26 PM roycroft: something i should have done years ago
04:26 PM JavaBean: "hind site is 20/20" is a misheard quote from a time traveler
04:27 PM roycroft: no regrets, just observations
04:27 PM roycroft: always look ahead, but remember the past
04:28 PM JavaBean: and reming the KISS principal... it makes it easier to get back on a project you set down 6 months ago due to X
04:29 PM JavaBean: reming??? seriously, i have had my coffee today
04:30 PM roycroft: keyboards can be lossy
04:31 PM roycroft: our forecast is making it look much more likely that we'll get snow by week's end
04:31 PM NotHereYet is now known as CaptHindsight
04:32 PM roycroft: and lows below freezing every night starting tomorrow
04:32 PM CaptHindsight: -10F this am (-23C)
04:32 PM roycroft: it's 10 degrees here right now
04:32 PM roycroft: it's 21 in my fabrication shop, so painting will go well
04:33 PM roycroft: but that's all going to change tonight
04:33 PM * roycroft wanders off
04:34 PM * CaptHindsight shovels snow
04:41 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, keep it.
04:49 PM skunkworks: starlink setup.. Seems to 'just work'
04:50 PM skunkworks: getting a consistant 100X40 give or take
04:50 PM Tom_L: they giving or taking?
04:50 PM skunkworks: had to reboot the starlink router once so far.. (just got lost(
04:51 PM skunkworks: It bounces around a bit - but still many many times faster then their dsl...
04:53 PM skunkworks: pretty amazing
04:56 PM XXCoder: nice
04:57 PM perry_j1987: now find a nice lake or river to move up in the mountains and setup a shop heh
04:57 PM perry_j1987: with your new highspeed internet
06:32 PM unreal is now known as Guest31842
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: that was always the gotcha with trying to work out in the wilderness, lack of high speed internet
06:38 PM flyback is now known as phil_collins
06:38 PM phil_collins is now known as flyback
06:43 PM jdh: and 3 phase power
06:59 PM CaptHindsight: lets see how Starlink holds up after a couple years
06:59 PM CaptHindsight: will they keep the speeds up or will it just get saturated?
08:06 PM skunkworks: CaptHindsight: time will tell
08:09 PM JavaBean: not if someone seals his lips for eternity
08:10 PM XXCoder: sign language
08:11 PM XXCoder: written language
08:13 PM JavaBean: they don't typically survive long enough to learn such forms of communication once there lips get sealed... something about needing to eat, drink, and breathe that they find difficult with their lips sealed shut
08:14 PM XXCoder: drip tube
08:16 PM * JavaBean shurgs, never had to deal with that issue
08:16 PM XXCoder: well im prepured to do so for over 40 years ;)
08:17 PM JavaBean: oh, so that is why you think you can act the way you do... interesting
08:17 PM XXCoder: yeah native language is asl :P
08:20 PM JavaBean: meh, makes it hard to "ask" you questions... can't get an answer from you if there are nails in the joints of your fingers
08:21 PM XXCoder: hep you will never know secret 11 herbs
08:23 PM XXCoder: https://www.chicagotribune.com/dining/recipes/ct-kfc-recipe-test-20160818-story.html
08:23 PM XXCoder: hmmm
08:24 PM * JavaBean pulls up 'higurashi no naku koro ni' to see what that 'nail in joints' questioning tactic is called
08:29 PM CaptHindsight: JavaBean: sage advice, sage advice, you're like an IRC prophet
08:29 PM JavaBean: shit
08:31 PM JavaBean: i don't want people taking photos of me, or doing drawings. but at the same time i don't want them mispronouncing my name or changing my ethnicity...
08:32 PM CaptHindsight: I prefer chalk outlines or oils on black velvet, stay classy
08:36 PM JavaBean: well, i am not a girl... nor am i french, so those arts are out
08:44 PM JavaBean: now if i looked like that dude that destroyed part of NYC and had to have Lady Liberty resurrected in order to defeat... then MAYBE i would allow pictures to be taken
08:46 PM XXCoder: like this? https://www.thegreenhead.com/imgs/ghostbusters-terror-dog-life-size-replica-3.jpg
08:49 PM JavaBean: no... but i am sure i seen that dog in the documentary about the dude
08:50 PM XXCoder: lol
09:06 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.thevelvetstore.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Elvis_jesus.jpg
09:10 PM JavaBean: he's not dead, he just had to go home
09:27 PM roycroft: well, i assume that the football game is over, because three of my neighbors are shooting off fireworks
