01:35 AM Deejay: moin
02:06 AM Loetmichel: **AAAAHHHHH** They dont learn, do they? Just had to bandaid a deep cratch on the hand of a coworker. I told them at least 1000 times to make sure the Mill spindle is off and out of the way before reaching into the CNC mill... He didnt... Luckily the mill bit was already pretty dull. WHY? Isnt it enough that **I** have a 3mm hole in my thumb bone?!?
02:32 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: don't get one of these at work https://youtu.be/i2dXw_Tnj-s?t=25
02:34 AM XXCoder1: very sfe
02:34 AM XXCoder1: +a
02:37 AM CaptHindsight: XXCoder1: I mights start a business just selling prop versions of that for Halloween
02:37 AM XXCoder1: lol
04:19 AM sorki is now known as srk
04:26 AM Tom_L: morning
04:27 AM XXCoder1: hey'
06:25 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:25 AM XXCoder1: hey jt
06:25 AM XXCoder1: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/lczvr4/too_real/ ow
06:26 AM XXCoder1: machining mess up
06:26 AM XXCoder1: or maybe not machining but mess thats for sure
06:27 AM JT-Cave: I usually avoid reddit like the plague but took a quick look
06:27 AM JT-Cave: might be a rod mill
06:28 AM XXCoder1: i dont avoid reddit, but nether do I browse on site
06:34 AM JT-Cave: yea when searching online if it is reddit, pinterest and a few other sites I avoid them
06:46 AM JavaBean: i don't really avoid reddit during searches, but i do try to verify the info there against other places. pinterest tho...
07:12 AM unterhaus: I hope pinterest runs out of money to pay google to promote their links
07:13 AM XXCoder1: what if google buys them
07:13 AM unterhaus: I noticed if there is something I want to see on flickr, pinterest links to flickr come first
07:13 AM XXCoder1: isnt pinterest owned by facebook?
07:13 AM unterhaus: if google buys pinterest they will put it out of business in 14 months
07:16 AM unterhaus: my 3d printer is cursed, ordered some stuff from amazon for it and the package disappeared
07:17 AM XXCoder1: bleh
07:17 AM XXCoder1: im printing what looks like evil magician villian tower on mine
07:21 AM XXCoder1: its actually nowhere near that lol
07:26 AM JavaBean: dice tower?
07:33 AM Loetmichel: oh maan, if any TLA listens in to our lunch discussions at the company... Today we went from 3dprinted weapons to Anfo do dynamit to nobel prize to the oppenheimer quote... in russian, arabic , english, romanian and chinese accents... i can only imaigne their faces :)
07:33 AM XXCoder1: java nah it was useless object i made as example of 2 face carving to make 2 sided text
07:34 AM XXCoder1: ie it shows X on on one side, and R on other
07:34 AM XXCoder1: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3014038
08:00 AM XXCoder1: lol bad print but in least i got odd picture of it
09:03 AM unterhaus: the local excursion railroad just found 5 cases of 100 year old dynamite sitting in one of their buildings
09:03 AM unterhaus: they are having it removed, hope I don't hear an explosion
09:04 AM norias: blow in place
09:12 AM unterhaus: that would destroy all their buildigns
09:13 AM unterhaus: Would also destroy much of downtown orbisonia
09:21 AM Loetmichel: *DAMN* ... haad one of the 3 CNC 6040 fail on me, one axis not moving... opened it: totally smoke connecotr on the tb6560 board... chinese quality crimps :( ... lets hoe the chip survived, i have not spares here. i could pull 7 of 12 wires out od the motor connector crimps with no force at all :(
09:22 AM unterhaus: I have finally come to realize that I'm not going to want to do a consulting job. Would have been nice, but now they are asking for legalize stuff I'm not in the position to provide
10:08 AM Loetmichel: **weeehooo!** only dead contacts, the driver chips survived. CNC mill runs again... MAN, Murphy. Why always when all machines run basically 10 hours a day because of mass orders??
10:26 AM roycroft: friday it is
10:26 AM roycroft: and this is a good thing
10:32 AM perry_j1987: morning
11:03 AM unterhaus: Is mesaflash the program I need to use to switch firmware on my mesa ethernet card?
11:05 AM Roguish: yes
11:07 AM unterhaus: I should take notes
11:07 AM unterhaus: memory is shot. But I probably would forget where I put them
11:18 AM perry_j1987: whats everyone working on today
11:19 AM roycroft: i'm working on making it to the weekend :)
11:22 AM roycroft: i'll be painting part of my bandsaw later on though
11:28 AM perry_j1987: sounds like fun
11:28 AM perry_j1987: I am planning out drilling some holes
11:29 AM perry_j1987: working on making some gang blocks that go in quick change tool post holders
11:29 AM perry_j1987: each will hold center drill, drill, single point threading tool, other will hold center drill, drill, reamer
11:30 AM MrSunshine: hmm is hal something "global" that is if linuxcnc is running, i write a c program that loads libhal and call it .. does it call the same instance as the linuxcnc one has ?
12:14 PM roycroft: i've pulled the casting inside so that it will warm up
12:15 PM roycroft: i still have two epoxy lifts to do before i can shoot paint
12:17 PM perry_j1987: farther along than I
12:17 PM perry_j1987: i still havnt made it over to the shop yet heh
12:17 PM roycroft: i have my little heater turned on in the fabrication shop, where i shoot paint
12:17 PM roycroft: it will take a few hours to heat it up a bit
01:34 PM unterhaus: how much do I have to worry about ground potential differences with a 26LS32 RS-422 differential receiver
01:36 PM unterhaus: looks like common mode max voltage is 7 or 15 volts depending on the part number
01:56 PM burklefoo: there needs to be a common ground to establish the common mode
02:09 PM unterhaus: I'm not sure if I can tie my servo amp ground to a common ground
02:10 PM unterhaus: I guess I need to tie my 24v ground to the mesa ground, and that might do it.
02:10 PM unterhaus: If I do that, I probably will add a second 24v supply that floats for stuff that would be better off isolated
02:28 PM burklefoo: Usually drives have a common for the high speed digital I/O. This needs to be referred to frame ground at some point
02:28 PM burklefoo: (for safety)
03:17 PM JT-Shop: looks like my quart of T&T varnish oil will ship sometime next week...
03:18 PM * JT-Shop needs a better windblows pc for cad work
03:23 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, what sort of pc?
03:26 PM Tom_L: don't run 10 on it or you'll defeat the purpose of upgrading :)
03:27 PM Tom_L: and you only get to use it when they allow it
03:31 PM JT-Shop: a desktop workstation for SW
03:34 PM * JT-Shop is ready to call it a day and open his beer
03:42 PM roycroft: were that i could
03:43 PM roycroft: i'm about to take a break to do an epoxy lift, though
03:44 PM roycroft: oh, jt-shop - you might look into getting a baby bottle warmer - they're perfect for heating small amounts of glue/varnish/whatever
03:44 PM roycroft: a tiny crock pot would do, of course
03:44 PM roycroft: but it would get pretty hot
03:46 PM JT-Shop: I was just going to use some hot water in a coffee can
03:47 PM roycroft: that works too
03:47 PM Tom_L: that's all i did when i used hot glue
03:47 PM Tom_L: jar in a pot of boiling water
03:48 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, ever get thru those cad tutorials?
03:51 PM JT-Shop: yea I think I did them all a while back
05:13 PM * JT-Shop has 18" or so of his desk cleaned...
05:15 PM cradek: horizontal or vertical?
05:18 PM JT-Shop: X axis
05:19 PM JT-Shop: that included removing a couple of pounds of dust from the PC
06:00 PM Guest48742 is now known as _unreal_
06:01 PM _unreal_: My laser etcher is getting closer to being done
06:01 PM _unreal_: think It will be moving this weekend
06:01 PM _unreal_: :)
06:11 PM * roycroft wonders if the final lift of epoxy is hard enough to sand down
06:23 PM roycroft: and it's not
06:23 PM roycroft: so i guess i can start shooting paint tomorrow
06:51 PM XXCoder1: roycroft: think that old funtures guy also uses baby bottle warmer to keep certain glue warm
06:54 PM CaptHindsight: 65f inside and waiting for the epoxy to dry
07:00 PM unterhaus_: sure looks like amazon failed to send me a package. That has happened before once
07:00 PM unterhaus_: I think when they run out of stock their system breaks down
07:03 PM XXCoder1: :(
07:04 PM unterhaus_: their tracking says my package is going to be delivered in Iowa, I'm in Pennsylvania
07:05 PM XXCoder1: sometimes they use wrong tracking number deliberately i suggest check into this'
07:05 PM unterhaus_: how do you check?
07:06 PM unterhaus_: it's all because I'm too lazy to look for a 2.5/5.5 plug
07:06 PM XXCoder1: not sure actually
07:09 PM unterhaus_: the psu I bought is the one everybody buys for the monoprice
07:10 PM unterhaus_: one guy gave it a low rating because it didn't make the bed heat up any faster
07:10 PM unterhaus_: seems unfair
07:10 PM unterhaus_: I have seen pictures of people's setup where they use a real switching power supply
07:11 PM unterhaus_: as opposed to a wallwart
07:16 PM roycroft: i decided to paint a different part, which was in the queue for doing later on, because it's just a cover
07:16 PM roycroft: but i can get it at least in primer before the machine base is ready
07:17 PM roycroft: so that's good
07:18 PM roycroft: you could have mined and smelted ore to make raw materials, and build a power supply out of those materials by hand int the time you've been waiting for a power supply for your printer, unterhaus_
07:18 PM XXCoder1: is it 12v 7a? im wondering if i could get 12v 10a
07:18 PM roycroft: just pull the battery out of your car and use that for now
07:19 PM roycroft: when you start printing you'll be too mesmerised staring at the printer to be able to go anywhere anyway
07:19 PM XXCoder1: lol
07:19 PM roycroft: am i wrong?
07:19 PM XXCoder1: dunno
07:23 PM unterhaus_: see previous statement about being too lazy to find a plug
07:23 PM unterhaus_: XXCoder1 10A https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FFKL7CR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
07:24 PM XXCoder1: i should order it
07:24 PM XXCoder1: 7a sllllllow bed heat up lol
07:24 PM unterhaus_: wait until they are in stock
07:25 PM unterhaus_: that's weird, earlier they said it wasn't going to be available until mid-feb
07:27 PM XXCoder1: damn while I was looking at mine, I acciently unplugged my printer
07:27 PM XXCoder1: starting over lol
07:29 PM XXCoder1: lucky it was maybe 15 min out of 5 hours
07:32 PM XXCoder1: unterhaus_: how do you know pin connector is right diameter anyway
08:09 PM unterhaus_: the monoprice site says 5.5/2.5 and the reviews on amazon concur
08:18 PM XXCoder1: oh nice
08:30 PM roycroft: you could always meaure it to be sure
08:36 PM unterhaus_: I measure by plugging it in and seeing if it's loose. If it's too tight, then I can't plug it in
08:39 PM unterhaus_: yes, I am a part-time metrologist, why do you ask?
08:39 PM unterhaus_: I have a poster that says, "if you can't measure it, you can't make it"
08:49 PM XXCoder1: roy yeah, though bit hard to measure when dont have one :)
08:53 PM roycroft: i meant to measure the socket
08:53 PM XXCoder1: oh!
08:54 PM XXCoder1: honestly didnt think of that lol
08:54 PM roycroft: we have snow in the forecast for late next week
08:55 PM roycroft: only about a 25% chance at most
08:55 PM roycroft: but still, it's there
08:55 PM roycroft: time will tell if it actually happens
08:55 PM XXCoder1: next friday
08:55 PM XXCoder1: yeah dunno
08:55 PM XXCoder1: very often snow predictions fade away lol
08:56 PM roycroft: my local forecast shows a slight chance wednesday night/thursday morning, and a greater chance friday night/saturday morning
08:56 PM roycroft: yes, i usually only believe those forecasts when they're for the next day or two at most
08:57 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:57 PM roycroft: and even then, i really only believe them when i see the snowflakes falling
08:57 PM roycroft: and we're talking about 2.4-4cm at most
08:58 PM roycroft: with temperatures hovering right around freezing, so it may not even stick
08:58 PM roycroft: if it even happens
08:58 PM roycroft: i hope i'm done with my painting before wednesday
08:58 PM roycroft: snow would not bother me, but sub freezing temperatures would be a problem
08:59 PM XXCoder: yeah we had decade snow 2 years ago, doubt it will happen again in 2 years! lol
08:59 PM roycroft: i really need a bigger shop, so i can paint a bunch of parts at once, instead of doing little bits at a time
08:59 PM roycroft: i think we had a little snow last winter
08:59 PM roycroft: the year before we had a lot of snow
08:59 PM XXCoder: if time lord inside is bigger ever found to be possible, it'd sell so hard
09:00 PM XXCoder: I would empty one closet out and turn it to big shop
09:34 PM roycroft: i keep going back and forth from building a second story for my house, which would allow me to expand my shop, and leasing some commercial space for the wood shop
10:02 PM CaptHindsight: https://xkcd.com/1732/
10:03 PM CaptHindsight: Earth Temperature Timeline
10:07 PM veegee: Guys, fun fact: The sixth power of 39√92 is very close to 2
10:15 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/-BE476MvO_g?t=94 engine on the outside
10:16 PM XXCoder: bit small for vw
10:19 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: I like the finger remover mounted at the rear
10:19 PM XXCoder: just finger?
10:19 PM CaptHindsight: not sure why that is actually there
10:19 PM XXCoder: cooling
10:19 PM XXCoder: throw a cabbage and you can make salad with result
10:30 PM roycroft: put that in your funk and wagnalls
10:50 PM roycroft: and this is why renting the commericial space is not my preference - i just went out and shot color on one of the bandsaw parts
10:50 PM roycroft: it took 10 minutes
10:51 PM roycroft: because i just walked out from my living room, did the work, and went back inside
10:52 PM XXCoder: no way to have it in your backyard or something?
10:52 PM roycroft: i really don't want to take up more space like that, and i'd have to get a zoning variance anyway
10:52 PM roycroft: which could be a prolonged, expensive hassle
10:53 PM XXCoder: hmm ok
10:53 PM roycroft: my preferred option is the one i did not mention - to buy a place outside of town that has more room
10:53 PM roycroft: the pandemic killed that plan
10:53 PM roycroft: rural properties have skyrocketed in price since last year
10:53 PM XXCoder: people moving out I guess
10:53 PM roycroft: everyone wants to get as far away from everyone else as possible
10:56 PM roycroft: i normally don't like working at night like this, but when i'm doing things like painting sometimes it's necessary
10:56 PM roycroft: 10 minutes of work, then a 2 hour wait to do 10 more minutes of work
10:57 PM roycroft: in this case, it will be overnight now, since it's getting cold
10:57 PM XXCoder: cant heat room or something?
10:57 PM roycroft: and i just shot color
10:57 PM roycroft: yeah, i can heat it somewhat
10:57 PM XXCoder: dont have to be too hot, just like 50f
10:57 PM roycroft: but it's not insulated, not seald well, so it's hard to keep it warm
10:57 PM XXCoder: it'll dry air a bit too
10:58 PM roycroft: but even if it's warm, it taks a while between coats
10:58 PM roycroft: i'm painting both sides of the parts, so primer on one side, wait until it can be handled, primer other side, wait until it can be handled
10:58 PM roycroft: then the same with color and clear coat, but those get multiple coats on each side
10:59 PM roycroft: i shoot all the coats on one side before flipping it over, but it still takes time
10:59 PM XXCoder: yeah
11:00 PM roycroft: and because i don't have a lot of room, it's going to take five rounds of painting to get everything don
11:00 PM roycroft: i'm on round 2
11:04 PM XXCoder: whats you painting anyway? i dont remember reading that
11:04 PM roycroft: my woodworking band saw
11:04 PM roycroft: i just built a new stand for it and am refurbishing it
11:04 PM roycroft: new fence
11:04 PM XXCoder: nice
11:04 PM roycroft: better dust collection port
11:04 PM roycroft: motor upgrade
11:04 PM roycroft: magnetic power switch
11:05 PM roycroft: and i'm figuring out how to mount a light on it
11:06 PM roycroft: i have a riser block for it that gives me 6" of additional cutting height, but the block is not square
11:06 PM roycroft: so the upper wheel is misaligned when i install it, and it's hard to get the blade to track
11:06 PM roycroft: i'm going to fix that, and mount the riser block permanently
11:07 PM roycroft: i was going to buy a new band saw, in fact i was ready to order it a few months ago, but it was out of stock
11:07 PM roycroft: then i decided just to refurbish this one
11:08 PM roycroft: i've had it for over 20 years, and it's worked pretty well all that time
11:08 PM roycroft: it could use a few improvements though, and that's what it's getting
11:08 PM XXCoder: sounds like good idea
11:12 PM roycroft: i think it will be worth all the effort and downtime
11:15 PM XXCoder: hpope so :D
11:17 PM roycroft: i seem to enjoy rebuilding machinery as much as making stuff, so i'll have had a good time regardless
