09:49 AM unterhaus: yay, lab safety training
09:49 AM roycroft: remember that there is no more important safety rule than to wear these, safety glasses
09:58 AM unterhaus: don't have to do that im my lab
09:59 AM unterhaus: talked to someone in Michigan who had to wear safety glasses, hard hat and steel toed shoes in a similar lab
09:59 AM unterhaus: glad I'm not there
10:00 AM unterhaus: got my ebay 3d printer, no power supply or hanger for the filament
10:01 AM unterhaus: a little annoyed about the psu, it appears to be a new printer though
10:02 AM unterhaus: safety training consists of a guy reading a powerpoint presentation, which I could do 20 times faster
10:02 AM unterhaus: also it's buffering constantly
10:02 AM gregcnc: he needs a job too
10:03 AM unterhaus: I wonder what they do all day now that starbucks doesn't allow in-person
11:45 AM unterhaus: well, I flunked the safety quiz, got to take it over again. It's all about chemicals I don't use.
11:47 AM unterhaus: We called for pickup of some hydraulic oil about a year ago. They say they will come within 2 weeks, but it's still there
12:07 PM roycroft: do not drink it
12:07 PM roycroft: it will not cure you of teh covid
12:07 PM serp: someone on the internet said it would
12:08 PM roycroft: the internet lies
12:12 PM unterhaus: The msds for the oil used to say that you could drink it, it's just mineral oil
12:12 PM unterhaus: I guess the lawyers got ahold of it, not in there now
12:13 PM unterhaus: I wonder if I should bother asking for the power supply for the 3d printer
12:15 PM unterhaus: does anyone include a power supply as an "accessory"?
12:16 PM unterhaus: there are no markings on the case to say what it needs
12:18 PM unterhaus: website says 12v, 120w max. Would be nice to know the polarity
12:21 PM unterhaus: is XXCoder here?
12:22 PM roycroft: maybe it's ac, in which case polarity does not matter
12:28 PM JT-Cave: yippie the range is finished
12:29 PM JT-Cave: unterhaus, he is sleeping
12:30 PM unterhaus: JT-Cave, where does he live?
12:30 PM JT-Cave: washington state
12:32 PM JT-Cave: but that has no bearing on anything
12:33 PM unterhaus: Okay, I'm asleep a lot
12:33 PM mrec: does anyone have experience with single flute cutters for acryl and the quality? some vendors sell 15-50$ single flute endmills while the chinese sell 3$ ones.
12:34 PM JT-Cave: unterhaus, he works nights and sleeps during the day
12:34 PM mrec: I'm curious about the finish of various endmills
12:34 PM JT-Cave: try them all and see
12:35 PM JT-Cave: I only use Onsrud bits for plastics
12:35 PM roycroft: a $3 end mill only costs you $3 to try :)
12:36 PM mrec: the 3$ I have I just wonder it doesn't feel sharp
12:37 PM mrec: I also have a 20$ taiwanese endmill which is sharp but it's a 2 flute endmill (not really suitable for that particular application 2.1mm acrylic sheet)
12:39 PM mrec: JT-Cave: is that onsrud one sharp?
12:45 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:46 PM gloops: mrec single flute spiral chinese bits for everything
12:51 PM mrec: I have just found a video and it just confirms my experience
12:52 PM mrec: chinese are ok for playing.
12:52 PM mrec: I'm surprised that the taiwanese ones have such a high quality
12:54 PM gloops: are you cutting for light reflections in acrylic sheet ?
12:55 PM mrec: no I'm just cutting some easy shapes out of it
12:55 PM mrec: the finish is soso..
12:56 PM gloops: high speed cutting..or
12:56 PM mrec: If I use the taiwanese 2 flute cutter and go down 0.4mm the finish also looks ok.. if I do that with the single flute chinese one the finish doesn't look good
12:57 PM mrec: 2000rpm / tested multiple feed rates
12:57 PM gloops: so its the profile finish
12:57 PM mrec: and as mentioned the cutter is not sharp at all
12:57 PM gloops: ahh 2000? not 20000?
12:58 PM mrec: 2000 yes my toy mill won't go faster
12:58 PM gloops: well i think that might be a contributing factor
12:59 PM mrec: for sure.
01:00 PM gloops: finishing pass might help, if you can tab the part and go round again taking a shave off
01:02 PM mrec: I'll get an expensive one for comparing next week
01:02 PM mrec: all those chinese endmills are not sharp and don't feel smooth either
01:03 PM gloops: are the bits youre using straight flutes?
01:04 PM mrec: no
01:04 PM mrec: spiral ones
01:04 PM mrec: helical
01:06 PM mrec: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32610198013.html
01:07 PM gloops: i imagine they are upcut, cant see anything on the link
01:08 PM mrec: I did not buy from that vendor (so it could be a little bit different, but it looks the same from the picture)
01:08 PM mrec: it's upcut yes
01:12 PM gloops: well, just guessing, but at low speed id think the cutter is more likely to bite the material and deflect, causing a bit of juddering maybe, a larger diameter bit might be less flexible
01:19 PM mrec: it's not terribly ugly.. but the taiwanese one is giving me a better result
02:14 PM unterhaus_: I bought some lathe toolholders and ebay put up a page to make sure I wanted to buy them again
02:14 PM unterhaus_: did they have an update by Marie Kondo or something?
02:15 PM gregcnc: that's like amazon if you buy a coffee maker, you probably need several more
02:15 PM unterhaus_: the opposite
02:15 PM gregcnc: ?
02:15 PM gregcnc: are you sure you want to buy this?
02:15 PM unterhaus_: amazon would be sending me toolholder ads for a couple months, ebay tried to stop me
02:15 PM unterhaus_: amazon is always going after repeat sales
02:16 PM gregcnc: that's never happened to me. Ebay always reminds me I looked at something and asks if i still interested
02:17 PM unterhaus_: this is new, I have previously bought toolholders separate times
02:17 PM unterhaus_: and never seen it
02:19 PM gregcnc: I've just about had it with ebay. I like the Euro model of Ebay were the company has to list it's contact info in the listing....
02:19 PM unterhaus_: I think ebay here discourages that, don't they?
02:20 PM gregcnc: they say will charge you a final fee if they think you made a sale outside of ebay
02:20 PM unterhaus_: you could go direct and cut ebay out
02:20 PM gregcnc: I have done exactly that on ebay.de when possible
02:21 PM unterhaus_: I recently tracked down a company I bought something from because I wanted to get some tech info
02:21 PM unterhaus_: hopefully they didn't get charged a final value fee
02:22 PM gregcnc: they can only go by what you say in the messages
02:22 PM unterhaus_: that makes sense, I figured it out from the user name, so never sent a message
02:26 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:35 PM XXCoder: unterhaus_: yo
02:36 PM unterhaus_: my 3d printer didn't have a power supply
02:36 PM unterhaus_: yours did, right?
02:39 PM unterhaus_: monoprice sold it separately, but it's out of stock
02:46 PM unterhaus_: I got my mesa board already, USPS was really fast
02:56 PM perry_j1987: hows it going
02:56 PM gregcnc: fucking fantabulous as always
02:57 PM perry_j1987: im shopping on mesa boards right now heh
02:57 PM gregcnc: the encoder counting limitation you ran into is the biggest problem with parport
02:58 PM perry_j1987: ya i didnt expect them to have such a high resolution encoder on the spindle
02:58 PM perry_j1987: its some SUPER long rotary encoder shaft too
02:58 PM gregcnc: does it have an index?
02:58 PM perry_j1987: i'd have to design whole new mount to put my other encoder in there
02:58 PM perry_j1987: ya it has index and a,b,-a,-b
02:59 PM gregcnc: you can use index only
03:00 PM gregcnc: if going mesa, it doesn't matter
03:00 PM perry_j1987: need A for threading
03:01 PM perry_j1987: im looking at these 7i92 boards now
03:01 PM perry_j1987: trying to figure out the diff between the M and non M version
03:01 PM perry_j1987: ah male vs female db25
03:06 PM gregcnc: did you sort your code/part issue?
03:07 PM perry_j1987: ya
03:07 PM perry_j1987: fusion360 changed itself on me
03:07 PM perry_j1987: it checked the box for feed per rev
03:08 PM perry_j1987: and it was causing it to oddly feather into cuts when it should have been plunging and THEN moving sideways
03:09 PM perry_j1987: i assume cause i had spindle encoder woes right now it was causing issue?
03:11 PM gregcnc: are you programming in feed/rev? this is normal for a lathe
03:13 PM perry_j1987: i used g94 always
03:17 PM gregcnc: i could see that causing inconsistent feed, but not position
03:18 PM perry_j1987: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=306&search=7i92 so i get this or something else
03:58 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: if you get a 7i92 you also need to pick break out boards, the 7I74 through 7I78 and 7I85
03:59 PM perry_j1987: ya i was just reading that its not just parallel port and this breakoutboard i got but the breakoutboard itself may be too slow for this 1000/4000 encoder?
04:00 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: I forget the top speed of the Mesa encoder interface, 2MHz comes to mind but it might be much slower, I don't recall exactly
04:01 PM CaptHindsight: why i mentioned the issue to you earlier that 8Mhz reads will likely be way to high
04:02 PM CaptHindsight: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_63&product_id=311 might be another option for you
04:02 PM CaptHindsight: 7I96
04:04 PM CaptHindsight: ah in the 7i96 spec COUNT RATE----10 MHz
04:06 PM perry_j1987: i'd need to program the vfd for serial control vs 0-10v with that eh?
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: there is also 7I52 is a six channel RS-422 serial plus six channel encoder interface
04:08 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: I forget all the different model options they have
04:08 PM perry_j1987: too many lol
04:08 PM perry_j1987: so many options its overwhelming
04:09 PM CaptHindsight: the analog 0-10V out is another catch
04:09 PM CaptHindsight: you could keep the spindle 0-10V on the LPT BOB
04:09 PM perry_j1987: i tried on my 6040 to setup serial for the vfd but had zero luck
04:10 PM perry_j1987: this is diff vfd with better docs though on this lathe so may be an option
04:10 PM CaptHindsight: much depends on the VFD
04:10 PM CaptHindsight: some clones don't clone ALL the features, just some
04:12 PM perry_j1987: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mint-Condition-Lenze-sf110s-AC-Tech-SCF-Series-Inverter/174594219174?epid=16034578347&hash=item28a6a05ca6:g:N1IAAOSwpMpf~qR3 its this
04:12 PM perry_j1987: spendy wow heh
04:14 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: I'd call Mesa or send an email with your requirements for all your options.
04:15 PM perry_j1987: they said my BOBs off amazon may not be fast enough to use this encoder
04:16 PM perry_j1987: with the 7i92
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: Mesa for the encoder IN
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: BOB only for 0-10V out for spindle control
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: mesa for Step and Dir
04:17 PM CaptHindsight: not sure what all the part number options are
04:17 PM perry_j1987: could make little standalone pcb to handle 0-10v if needed
04:17 PM perry_j1987: return the BOB
04:18 PM jymmmm: Between 1 and 0
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: 7I78 http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_71&product_id=121
04:19 PM CaptHindsight: 4 Axis of step & dir step motor or servo motor drives and also provides a spindle encoder interface, and an isolated analog spindle control.
04:19 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: this might be the best fit ^^
04:20 PM perry_j1987: along iwth the 7i92?
04:20 PM CaptHindsight: COUNT RATE ---- 10 MHz
04:22 PM CaptHindsight: http://mesaus.com/ethernet-cnc-solutions/
04:25 PM CaptHindsight: I WISH that they would have a chart like the one here and some block diagrams with board features
04:25 PM CaptHindsight: I really get tired of having to read though all the specs every time to see what board has what
04:25 PM CaptHindsight: it's not obvious from the board description
04:26 PM perry_j1987: aye
04:26 PM CaptHindsight: 7i78 4 axes Step and Direction, yeah but it also has analog out 0-10V for a spindle and en encoder IN
04:26 PM CaptHindsight: anyway, give them a call
04:27 PM gregcnc: sounds like 7i92+7i78
04:27 PM CaptHindsight: from how the website seems to stay I guess they really want you to contact them to discuss your options
04:30 PM CaptHindsight: and it gets worse since you can also load different configs to combine different IO options, but all this info is spread out over a bunch of data sheets vs having some sort of chart that shows you the options available
04:31 PM CaptHindsight: it's really flexible but nobody has put together a chart with all the options
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: on the other hand they likely have to also deal with hobbyists that will take up lots of your time chatting about options vs getting to the point
04:33 PM perry_j1987: ya its looking like this might be the right combo for my setup
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: and the same hobbyists will just ignore the flowcharts and waste your time
04:34 PM perry_j1987: hobbyists can get largely taken care of by people like me documenting and publishing what i end up doing i guess heh
04:34 PM Tom_L: there is a standalone analog board too
04:34 PM perry_j1987: so anybody with similar machines has a solution layed out
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: JT's on the right track but he leaves out important details about the board options
04:35 PM Tom_L: https://mesaus.com/product/spinx1/
04:36 PM Tom_L: you've only got 2 axis right?
04:36 PM gregcnc: if you do mod bus, just 7i96?
04:36 PM CaptHindsight: also https://mesaus.com/product/ency/ but no link to specs
04:37 PM Tom_L: it's not available yet
04:37 PM Tom_L: i think it's new
04:37 PM Tom_L: https://mesaus.com/product/7i92m/
04:38 PM Tom_L: small card may do what you need, i'm not sure
04:38 PM perry_j1987: 2 right now
04:38 PM CaptHindsight: no spreadsheet yet with all the LCNC compatible boards yet?
04:39 PM Tom_L: sounds like you're volunteering :)
04:39 PM perry_j1987: may add turret at some point (probably)
04:39 PM Tom_L: still should have enough
04:39 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: some others already have
04:39 PM CaptHindsight: I don't think they want one published
04:40 PM Tom_L: could be
04:40 PM CaptHindsight: Orange Pi is similar
04:41 PM CaptHindsight: a zillion different models but no spreadsheet
04:41 PM CaptHindsight: some user finally put one up on a wiki
04:41 PM CaptHindsight: 3rd party
04:43 PM perry_j1987: so 7i92+7i78 looks like a path then for this machine
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: maybe, i had to flip through two website and compare several data sheets to get this far :)
04:48 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: I'm surprised you haven't given up, gone to #reprap, grabbed a few duinos and used GRBL by now
04:48 PM perry_j1987: haha
04:48 PM CaptHindsight: what's wrong with you? :p
04:48 PM perry_j1987: whats the term... glutton for punishment i guess heh
04:48 PM gregcnc: there is always a job shop to make the parts
04:49 PM perry_j1987: Im still havin fun
04:49 PM perry_j1987: it will be a good machine when im done with it
04:50 PM gregcnc: sub everything, sell on amazon, profit, move to jamaica
04:51 PM perry_j1987: then i wouldnt be at a shop till midnight anymore heh
04:51 PM gregcnc: you're learning
04:52 PM CaptHindsight: does anyone actually move TO Jamaica?
04:52 PM gregcnc: or a hotdog cart once world reboots
04:52 PM gregcnc: eh, island of your choice. i know a few who left Jamaica?
04:59 PM perry_j1987: so there's no reason i shouldnt go with 7i92+7i78?
05:01 PM CaptHindsight: I dare you to call them and ask them
05:04 PM perry_j1987: waiting on return email atm heh
05:05 PM unterhaus_: there was a mesa card that someone mentioned on the mailing list that I thought was a good deal. Trying to figure out which one
05:06 PM unterhaus_: 7i96
05:08 PM unterhaus_: has terminal strips plus a connector for a BoB
05:09 PM perry_j1987: ya was looking at that one too
05:09 PM perry_j1987: but no 0-10v onboard
05:09 PM gregcnc: right, use modbus to talk to the VFD.
05:11 PM perry_j1987: aye im somewhat not comfortable with that
05:11 PM perry_j1987: last time i tried on the 6040 it just did not work heh
05:11 PM perry_j1987: but this is a "real" VFD not one from a random china 6040 box
05:13 PM CaptHindsight: perry_j1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NF8EFoPlrk Remotely controlling the Huanyang VFD with LinuxCNC over RS485 Modbus
05:14 PM CaptHindsight: uses cheap USB RS485 adapters ^^
05:14 PM perry_j1987: ya i have a stack of them i tried with the inverter in mine
05:14 PM perry_j1987: its not huanyang type though
05:14 PM perry_j1987: nowforever
05:14 PM CaptHindsight: video is performed using a with Euro accent in English
05:15 PM CaptHindsight: I find his voice soothing, something i would play to calm a wild beast
05:19 PM perry_j1987: heh
05:20 PM unterhaus_: now I have to redo my schematic because I decided to replace the 7i33 with a 7i48
05:21 PM unterhaus_: frees up a decent amount of space in the cabinet though
05:37 PM Tom_L: i went with a table on mine this round
05:38 PM Tom_L: showing io#, pins to and from and wire colors etc
05:38 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, finished up the range this morning
05:38 PM Tom_L: saw that
05:38 PM Tom_L: did you test fire your pistol?
05:38 PM Tom_L: :)
05:39 PM JT-Cave: test fired all my tools for the rest of the week
05:39 PM Tom_L: next another spoke machine?
05:40 PM Tom_L: what was the issue with the backward wiring?
05:41 PM unterhaus_: Tom_L a table is not too bad. Schematic might be easier to read later
05:41 PM unterhaus_: a table is not a bad idea I meant
05:41 PM JT-Cave: stepper cord had two wires backwards on the plug, AD is sending a new one
05:44 PM Tom_L: unterhaus_, gives me a point on each end to find a connection
05:44 PM Tom_L: and it's easier to edit :)
05:45 PM unterhaus_: I might do both
05:45 PM Tom_L: i had a mess when i started
05:45 PM Tom_L: and it changed several times
05:45 PM JT-Cave: what are you building?
05:45 PM Tom_L: who?
05:46 PM unterhaus_: trying to finish my mill
05:50 PM unterhaus_: I think I have a motor that went bad, which seems weird
05:50 PM unterhaus_: last time it ran it smashed my finger just fine
05:58 PM JT-Cave: I thought you were building a table...
06:24 PM unterhaus_: what kind of table?
06:25 PM JT-Cave: <Tom_L> i went with a table on mine this round
06:29 PM XXCoder: unterhaus_: yours didnt come with one??
06:29 PM XXCoder: wtf
06:29 PM XXCoder: you need to contact then
06:29 PM XXCoder: m
06:29 PM unterhaus_: yeah, I guess so
06:29 PM unterhaus_: I don't think it counts as an accessory, do you?
06:30 PM XXCoder: no it doesnt
06:30 PM XXCoder: if it dont turn on its not a 3d printer yet
06:30 PM unterhaus_: it was in the original box, maybe they stripped all that stuff out
06:30 PM XXCoder: mine come in orginal box too
06:31 PM XXCoder: no usb cable or anything, but oddly, sample filiment
06:31 PM unterhaus_: how did they sneak the filament in with it?
06:31 PM XXCoder: just printer, power box, and sample filiment for me
06:31 PM unterhaus_: not a spool?
06:31 PM XXCoder: it looks orginal as in it come with printer lol
06:31 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, spreadsheet type table for my wiring
06:31 PM JT-Cave: ah
06:32 PM unterhaus_: XXCoder, how hard would it be for you to figure out what polarity the power plug is?
06:32 PM XXCoder: you sure it dont come with it?
06:32 PM XXCoder: its in insert in opposite side of printer
06:32 PM XXCoder: in box
06:32 PM unterhaus_: yeah, not much room in that box to hide something
06:33 PM XXCoder: i meant in foam
06:33 PM XXCoder: its in insert on other side of printer shaped form
06:35 PM XXCoder: so I suggest look at both sides of both foam inserts
06:35 PM unterhaus_: yeah, I just checked again
06:35 PM unterhaus_: I see where the filament went though
06:38 PM roycroft: have you contacted the seller about the missing power supply?
06:47 PM XXCoder: no supply still? sucks :( yeah contact seller
06:47 PM XXCoder: its not fair you paid bit more than me and get less
06:48 PM roycroft: my suspician is that what unterhaus_ got was not a new unit, but a returned unit that was not inspected carefully before reselling
06:49 PM XXCoder: mine was definitely returned also
06:49 PM XXCoder: guy didnt set bed on it lol so nozzle strached the heck of it, and fused some plastic into it
06:49 PM roycroft: and that can be fine, if it's in like new condition and has all the accessories
06:49 PM XXCoder: i removed those plastic fused stuff by printing on top of it, then removing print with it
06:50 PM XXCoder: strached down marked area remain however but still works fine
06:50 PM XXCoder: new pad is 6 dollars so whatever
06:51 PM roycroft: i added a tempered glass build plate to my printer almost as soon as i got it
06:51 PM roycroft: mine came with a flexible mat that was crap
06:52 PM XXCoder: i need to get steel magnetic thing
06:52 PM XXCoder: well not need but want
06:52 PM roycroft: a polished steel flex plate would be fine
06:52 PM roycroft: i may get one at some point
06:53 PM roycroft: the only drawback of the glass plate is that i have to let it cool off before i can remove my parts
06:53 PM roycroft: and then heat it up again for the next round
06:53 PM roycroft: a couple steel flex plates would be nice
06:53 PM roycroft: when a print is done, i'd just pull the plate off the bed, pop a new one on, and keep printing
06:54 PM roycroft: i could do that with a glass plate, but it would take longer to heat the new plate up than it would a thin steel one
07:00 PM skunkworks: My ender came with a magnetic build flexable plate. I like it
07:01 PM skunkworks: came with a glass one too - but have not tried it
07:01 PM XXCoder: i wonder if mp select can have it
07:02 PM skunkworks: i have a mp mini.. But I make an aluminum table for it. Still use painters tape..
07:02 PM XXCoder: unterhaus_: btw i updated website ui to be much better one, but i havent really tested it. i plan to soonissh
07:03 PM unterhaus_: okay, I didn't know if that was your webpage
07:05 PM unterhaus_: sent the seller a message about the psu
07:07 PM unterhaus_: XXCoder, do you think you could check the psu polarity?
07:07 PM XXCoder: there should be symbol on it yes looking
07:08 PM XXCoder: i dont know how symbol works a sec
07:09 PM XXCoder: looks like left side, fliped horzionally
07:10 PM XXCoder: i guess it means postive inside, outside negative
07:11 PM unterhaus_: do you see an amp rating?
07:11 PM unterhaus_: 12vdc 10a, I think
07:12 PM XXCoder: 7a
07:13 PM unterhaus_: funny they say 120watts
07:13 PM XXCoder: it might not be stock brick heh
07:15 PM unterhaus_: or their math is funny
07:38 PM XXCoder: probably?
08:22 PM roycroft: sounds like a peak voltage vs. rms voltage on the input side mistake
08:42 PM Juzzy: so my Z scale is all sorts of jacked up. I touched home, 0'd it, moved up to hair below max 107.75mm (approx) and the machine thought i moved 15.688
08:43 PM Juzzy: my Z joint scale is set to 3200
08:43 PM Juzzy: based off the wizard, i guess something was wrong there
08:49 PM beachbumpete1: hEY GUYS I finally got the new motherboard for my daughters gaming PC
08:49 PM beachbumpete1: and I got it all hooked up here
08:50 PM beachbumpete1: but for a bit it would not post
08:50 PM beachbumpete1: now the machine seems to be posting but my monitor says
08:50 PM Juzzy: aye. upgrade the bios and reset it
08:50 PM beachbumpete1: the current input timing is not supported etc
08:51 PM beachbumpete1: I did actually upgrade the bios downloading the latest from MSI's website for this particular board
08:51 PM beachbumpete1: it has a USB load bios setup with a little button and LED lights
08:51 PM beachbumpete1: it appeared to work as its supposed to. Restarting after several minutes of the flashing lights
08:52 PM beachbumpete1: I THINK the machine is actually working now but I cannot get to a bios screen because of this input timing error
08:52 PM beachbumpete1: any ideas?
08:52 PM beachbumpete1: how do you "reset it"
08:52 PM Juzzy: did you get any bios beep or codes?
08:53 PM Juzzy: what mb is it?
08:53 PM Juzzy: msi - what?
08:54 PM beachbumpete1: honestly I did not get any sounds from the board at all it is the MSI gaming pro carbon max wifi
08:54 PM beachbumpete1: The B450 model
08:54 PM beachbumpete1: initially I was getting this EZ load error code for the boot
08:55 PM beachbumpete1: but once I got the video monitor timing error I get no error lights on the board
08:55 PM beachbumpete1: which makes me think it is actually working now but the monitor timing is keeping me from seeing the bios
08:55 PM Juzzy: sec looking at the manual now
08:56 PM Juzzy: so there's absolutley no post beeping?
08:56 PM beachbumpete1: honestly I am not sure this tower even has a speaker so if there is not one on the board I dont know how I would hear anything
08:56 PM Juzzy: the mb has one built in. they all do
08:56 PM beachbumpete1: Thank you for trying to help me
08:57 PM Juzzy: see page 44 on the manual?
08:57 PM Juzzy: https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7B85v1.4.pdf
08:57 PM beachbumpete1: ah ok so then yeah I did not hear any beeping.
08:57 PM beachbumpete1: I have the printed manual here
08:57 PM Juzzy: "short the cmos jumper"
08:57 PM Juzzy: is the option you will need to do
08:57 PM beachbumpete1: I removed the Cmos battery for 5 minutes
08:57 PM beachbumpete1: before i did the ram update
08:57 PM Juzzy: thats different
08:57 PM beachbumpete1: err bios
08:58 PM beachbumpete1: it is?
08:58 PM Juzzy: that may or may not work
08:58 PM Juzzy: if it were plugged in the whole time, it def didnt work
08:58 PM beachbumpete1: no I unplugged it
08:58 PM Juzzy: EZ Debug LED - did you read that part and look?
08:58 PM beachbumpete1: but let me try to short the jumper here
08:59 PM beachbumpete1: yeah as I saidthe EZdebug LED had been saying boot.
08:59 PM beachbumpete1: I tried to run it without the GPU and got the VGA led error light
08:59 PM Juzzy: so no boot device? odd you didnt get a beep before that
08:59 PM beachbumpete1: now I have the GPU back in it and I get no led lights
09:00 PM Juzzy: look at page 39
09:00 PM Juzzy: that jumper you want to do
09:00 PM Juzzy: its at the bottom right of the board
09:01 PM Juzzy: use somethig metal like a small screwdriver to hold those pins down with it unplugged
09:01 PM beachbumpete1: yeah I know where it is.
09:01 PM Juzzy: erm, just tough and hold the pins, dont bend them
09:01 PM Juzzy: touch*
09:01 PM beachbumpete1: yeah
09:01 PM beachbumpete1: hang on
09:01 PM Juzzy: hold for 10 secs
09:01 PM Juzzy: then remove and boot back up
09:07 PM beachbumpete1: Ok I removed both hard drives SATA cables and power, then I touched the Jbat1 pins for ten seconds with the power off
09:07 PM beachbumpete1: then I powered it back on
09:08 PM beachbumpete1: the ez debug CPU light blinked on and off twice then stayed off
09:08 PM beachbumpete1: then the vga light lit momentarily
09:08 PM beachbumpete1: then the boot light lit and stayed lit
09:09 PM beachbumpete1: The monitor again says current input timing is not supported by the monitor display
09:09 PM beachbumpete1: before when I tried to run it we kept getting no HDMI input errors
09:10 PM beachbumpete1: so the fact that it says the input timing is not supported tells me the PC is sending video to the monitor no?
09:10 PM beachbumpete1: its just in the wrong timing setup
09:10 PM beachbumpete1: which I cannot change because I cannot access the bios
09:21 PM beachbumpete1: Any ideas how I can change the input timing without getting into the bios?
09:38 PM Juzzy: sorry i was scrolled up
09:38 PM Juzzy: does it have onboard video?
09:39 PM Juzzy: looks like it does
09:39 PM beachbumpete1: the mobo?
09:39 PM beachbumpete1: yeah but I read in their forums that it wont post without a GPU
09:39 PM Juzzy: so here's the deal, if you dont have a GPU installed it should send signal out the hdmi
09:39 PM Juzzy: ah you have dual outputs in the mobo? hdmi and a display port
09:40 PM beachbumpete1: yeah
09:40 PM Juzzy: so your onboard gpu should send signal out, have you tried that im guessing?
09:40 PM beachbumpete1: I tried removing the GPU and running it before but that was before I did the jbat1 thing
09:40 PM beachbumpete1: I will try it again..
09:41 PM Juzzy: this a new board?
09:41 PM beachbumpete1: brand new
09:41 PM Juzzy: k
09:41 PM Juzzy: ya try onboard hdmi, it may be a bad video cable if both are not working the same way
09:41 PM Juzzy: or bad monitor/input port
09:42 PM Juzzy: reguardless it should make a post beep
09:43 PM Juzzy: also make sure you have plugged in your extra mb pins
09:43 PM Juzzy: (from the psu)
09:43 PM Juzzy: see page 28?
09:43 PM Juzzy: there's 2 cpu power headers, those both have to be plugged in
09:44 PM Juzzy: one is 4 pins the other is 8
09:44 PM Juzzy: on page 28 - they are labeled CPU_PWR1 and 2
09:46 PM beachbumpete1: Ok I just tried it without the GPU
09:47 PM beachbumpete1: both the HDMI nor the Display output any video
09:47 PM beachbumpete1: I have both power connectors on the board plugged in as per the quick start menu
09:47 PM beachbumpete1: I have never heard it make any sort of beeps
09:48 PM beachbumpete1: I even just tried to plug in a headphone into the audio jack to make sure it was not beeping thru there and no sound
09:48 PM beachbumpete1: wondering where in the board is the speaker...
09:51 PM roycroft: maybe try a serial console to see if the bios redirects there?
09:53 PM beachbumpete1: I also forgot to mention I have two different monitors and two different HDMI cables here to try
09:53 PM beachbumpete1: all are brand new from my personal PC and known to work
09:54 PM roycroft: also, most logic boards have a jumper that you can short to reset the bios to factory defaults
09:54 PM beachbumpete1: we just updated the bios with the factory specd firmware
09:58 PM beachbumpete1: Ok guys I appreciate the assistance. I gotta get to bed. Try again tomorrow...
10:07 PM Juzzy: sounds like he has a bad board
10:10 PM roycroft: or the new firmware did not take
10:10 PM Juzzy: dont think the other one worked either tho
10:10 PM Juzzy: which is why he flashed it
10:10 PM Juzzy: So i have a bizarre problem, maybe someone here can help
10:10 PM Juzzy: https://youtu.be/U7Um8R77bik
10:44 PM Lcvette: hello
10:44 PM TurBoss: hello
10:44 PM Lcvette: \o/
10:45 PM Lcvette: Tom_L: you here?
10:48 PM W1N9Zr0: Juzzy - your speed is too high for your motor torque and you can hear that it's skipping steps when going right
10:48 PM W1N9Zr0: and since it sounds fine going left, and the distance doesn't match up, your steps/mm is wrong
10:52 PM W1N9Zr0: moving left successfully vs stalling right is down to your machine construction, a cable chain or some other external force is probably pulling it left
11:43 PM mrec: ok, my acrlic cuts are nice now, cutting depth 2.5mm feed rate 180
11:47 PM Juzzy: W1N9Zr0: ya exactly right. I got it dialed in within 1/32" over 40in now
11:47 PM Juzzy: but it moves crazy slow
11:49 PM Juzzy: now im trying to get my Y, and it's not cooperating either heh
11:50 PM Juzzy: i prob should just rebuild the gantry on sbr20 rails
11:52 PM XXCoder: hmm isnt this bit too fast for hard steel? https://youtu.be/27YqOt2iajo?t=664
11:52 PM Juzzy: and a screw like a SFU2005 needs to extend about 59" / 1500mm
11:53 PM W1N9Zr0: your motors look pretty big, are you sure you've got the current setting on the drivers correct for them?
11:53 PM Juzzy: actually, thats an interesting point. the drivers are a hair underpowered at just 4.2 and the motors are 5a
11:57 PM Juzzy: it's a KL-5042E driver 3.0RMP - 4.2 peak
11:57 PM Juzzy: the motors are KL23H2100-50-4BM
11:58 PM Juzzy: So i'
11:59 PM Juzzy: So i'm not super up to speed on motor tech. is a motor like any other tech, if I have too big of a driver will it only pull what it needs?
11:59 PM Juzzy: except like an LED which is an actual short, technically
11:59 PM Juzzy: but if I "supply" 5.2 amps, and the motor is rated for 5a, it'll only pull 5a?
