12:44 AM CaptHindsight: not Santa! https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/15/us/georgia-santa-covid.html
12:50 AM XXCoder: yeah probably one of kids give to him, or he had it whole time
12:50 AM XXCoder: i hate people who say "kids dont give virus" my reply: "so they are fucking aliens or what?
01:10 AM roycroft: it's going to take a long time for us as a nation to heal enough that people will be able to believe in objective truths again, at least to some degree
01:10 AM roycroft: and that healing is not going to begin for at least another month
01:10 AM XXCoder: indeed
01:11 AM roycroft: we can't solve any of our problems while a signficant percentage of the population believe in "alternative facts"
01:12 AM roycroft: i think it's going to happen, though
01:12 AM roycroft: i think people are tired of all the fighting and yelling
01:13 AM roycroft: we're never going to agree on the solutions, but we at leat need to agree on what some of the problems are
01:13 AM XXCoder: im sad that people is think election is being stolen, while their side is trying to steal it.
01:14 AM XXCoder: if god of irony existed, it would come down right there
01:44 AM Deejay: moin
05:09 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:09 AM XXCoder: yo
05:40 AM Loetmichel: *HEYHOOO* Wife just called from the hospitals wake up room: new hip joint installed without problems! *RELIEVED* ... and she packed for weeks to come but forgot her phone charging cable apparently... :)
05:40 AM XXCoder: lol oops
05:40 AM XXCoder: also nice!
05:52 AM JT-Cave: great news, wasn't she about to get that when covid hit?
05:52 AM Loetmichel: yep.
05:59 AM Loetmichel: third try is the charm
05:59 AM Loetmichel: first try was in february, canceled for covid. second try a month later she bed to much so they closed her up again...
06:01 AM Tom_L: morning
06:13 AM JT-Cave: yo
06:13 AM XXCoder: yooooooooooooo
06:33 AM JT-Cave: packages with the planer parts are still lost in space...
06:33 AM XXCoder: need to ask certain time lord
06:33 AM JT-Cave: Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility == LOST IN SPACE
06:34 AM XXCoder: dont join in travel however, you might have wacky adventures for couple years and return to approxately same day
06:34 AM JT-Cave: did you age while you were gone?
06:34 AM XXCoder: we all age ;)
07:09 AM JT-Cave: weird the forecast low was 22°F for last night but it's 35°F
07:25 AM Tom_L: 27F hi 36
07:33 AM JT-Cave: 35.3°F in Coop Deux
07:38 AM JavaBean: currently 25f outside here
07:45 AM XXCoder: 45f here
07:53 AM * JavaBean is currently in the desert of far west texas
08:02 AM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLZDgtT90Nc
08:03 AM XXCoder: weirdly low fps
08:06 AM skunkworks: weird.
08:06 AM skunkworks: probably something I screwed up
08:06 AM XXCoder: it was unwatchable for me. i paused videp and just treated it like slideshow
08:07 AM XXCoder: captions was mostly enough for me to understand what its about. its cool
08:08 AM skunkworks: looks like mine is 15 frames per second.
09:46 AM jymmmm: Morning
11:15 AM Tom_L: hey jymmmm
11:16 AM jymmmm: Tom_L: how's it goin?
11:17 AM Tom_L: good as ever
11:17 AM jymmmm: WOOHOO
11:21 AM skunkworks: Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLZDgtT90Nc
11:22 AM Tom_L: i was sitting here watching that
11:23 AM skunkworks: exciting stuff
11:23 AM Tom_L: what driver?
11:24 AM Tom_L: no sound here so dunno if you said
11:24 AM Tom_L: is that a mt2 taper on the spindle?
11:24 AM skunkworks: leadshine mx3660 - the one I replaced the mosfets in
11:25 AM skunkworks: mt1
11:25 AM skunkworks: small
11:25 AM Tom_L: wow
11:25 AM Tom_L: does it have a draw bar?
11:25 AM skunkworks: no - the nut on the front traps it.
11:25 AM Tom_L: about has to or it would fall out
11:25 AM Tom_L: ahh i see
11:26 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga9n4Laub1Q&feature=youtu.be
11:26 AM Tom_L: was cutting up some softjaws yesterday
11:28 AM skunkworks: have a 1mt to er coming. Going to see if I can modify it
11:29 AM skunkworks: neat!
11:29 AM Tom_L: kinda testing what i can do with the new spindle motor
11:30 AM Tom_L: quicker to part them off with a mill since i have no bandsaw
11:30 AM skunkworks: it would be neat to get a little high speed spindle for the emco
11:30 AM skunkworks: *terco
11:30 AM Tom_L: yeah
11:31 AM Tom_L: i went with a slower one since i'd like to be able to cut steel as well
11:31 AM Tom_L: once in a while anyway
11:31 AM skunkworks: right - I could switch between the 2 pretty easy the way it is setup
11:31 AM Tom_L: looks like it
12:03 PM unterhaus: anyone know the mesa user interface card model number off the top of their head?
12:05 PM unterhaus: guess I was thinking of the 7i73
12:08 PM Tom_L: user interface?
12:08 PM Tom_L: dunno what you mean
12:09 PM Tom_L: the pendant card?
12:10 PM Tom_L: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_70&product_id=116
12:10 PM Tom_L: yes
12:20 PM unterhaus: I wish there was an easy way to sneak a smart serial port into my system
12:21 PM Tom_L: why not?
12:21 PM unterhaus: 7i93/7i33/7i37
12:23 PM Tom_L: the 93 has rs422, is it available on the pinout?
12:25 PM unterhaus: not unless you can use the jtag connector
12:30 PM Tom_L: no free pins eh?
12:35 PM unterhaus: there are things I'm not going to use on the 7i37, but not sure how to convert them to a serial port
12:36 PM Tom_L: i dunno if you can on it, you might ask pcw
12:36 PM Tom_L: you might need a special bit file
12:43 PM Tom_L: i kinda doubt it
01:19 PM unterhaus: I doubt it too, at least not without some surgery.
01:27 PM perry_j1987: hows it going guys
01:28 PM perry_j1987: got myself a new recliner chair finally
01:29 PM perry_j1987: so much more comfortable for doing cad work vs at the desk lol
04:28 PM perry_j1987: whats everyone up too today
04:33 PM JT-Shop: installing gates
04:34 PM perry_j1987: cows getting out? :P
04:35 PM JT-Shop: customer has 6 grandkids and wants to keep them out of the pool area
04:36 PM JT-Shop: fancy fence :)
04:45 PM unterhaus: I'm tediously setting up my servo drives, hopefully they aren't as screwed up as the flashing leds would suggest
04:48 PM unterhaus: start up faults usually mean the drive should be returned to the factory which the vulture capitalists sold off 15 years ago and now sits empty
04:51 PM unterhaus: but they include illegal hall state and no external 24v
04:59 PM perry_j1987: im thinking of buying a new lathe
05:00 PM roycroft: don't think about it - just do it!
05:01 PM perry_j1987: its got servos on it now but thinking of taking those off and throwing my nema23s on it
05:01 PM perry_j1987: since i already got em and the drivers etc.
05:01 PM perry_j1987: then figure out the servos/encoders later on
05:01 PM roycroft: that should be pretty easy to do
05:06 PM perry_j1987: otherwise... what do i need to figure out to source drivers for these servos
05:08 PM enleth: perry_j1987: DC or AC?
05:09 PM perry_j1987: pretty sure DC
05:09 PM perry_j1987: http://support.technocnc.com/pdf/0229_LC_and_Lathe_Board-Callouts-Connectors.pdf has this board in it right now
05:11 PM enleth: the power section on this looks quite tiny, if the voltages match up you might be fine even with Leadshine drives
05:12 PM enleth: not surprising, a lathe doesn't need powerful axis motors
05:14 PM enleth: or look on ebay for old AMC drives
05:14 PM enleth: they go as low as $20 a pop
05:15 PM enleth: Copley Controls as well
05:15 PM enleth: my bridgeport uses those
05:17 PM enleth: they're very simple devices, there's a good reason they're called servo amplifiers - that's exactly what they are
05:18 PM enleth: and that makes them very hard to kill, so there's little risk in getting used units
05:18 PM Tom_L: don't tell _unreal_
05:20 PM roycroft: enleth does not live in high entropy land :)
05:20 PM _unreal_: I'm listening
05:21 PM _unreal_: not sure what I'm listening for though LOL
05:28 PM * JT-Shop wonders if he will get his planer parts by christmas...
05:29 PM Tom_L: which year?
05:30 PM JT-Shop: kinda hoping for 2020 but it ain't looking too good with all my remaining shipments lost in space
05:33 PM Tom_L: made a handfull of softjaws for the vise
05:34 PM roycroft: i'm waiting on fedex right now
05:34 PM roycroft: i have a priority overnight delivery that was due by 11am this morning, and was out for delivery at 7:30 am
05:34 PM roycroft: it's 3:30pm now and it's still not here
05:35 PM roycroft: the shipment is a replacement credit card for the card i use for fueling my vehicles
05:35 PM roycroft: and my prius is on fumes
05:35 PM roycroft: and i have a dinner engagement in a bit
05:35 PM roycroft: so i hope they show up soon
05:35 PM roycroft: if not, it's not the end of the world, but i get 5% cash rewards on fuel with this card
05:35 PM roycroft: so i really prefer using it
05:37 PM enleth: federal excrement, never failing to deliver disappointment
05:47 PM unterhaus: i wish I could put soft jaws on my current chuck, a new chuck is a bit expensive
05:49 PM roycroft: what is stopping you from doing that?
05:49 PM perry_j1987: little brass shim stock bent around the jaws
05:52 PM JT-Cave: yea I get a $29 a month raise next month
05:56 PM Tom_L: unterhaus, we used to get softjaws for the okuma
05:57 PM JT-Cave: do some have soft jaw inserts?
05:57 PM Tom_L: i can't remember how it worked
05:57 PM Tom_L: i've slept...
05:58 PM Tom_L: they probably were
05:58 PM Tom_L: i know they bolted on
05:58 PM JT-Cave: one more double gate and I'm done with that damn fence lol
05:59 PM JT-Cave: hmm I seem to remember the base jaw having a key like thing or something like that and the soft jaws bolted on and keyed to that or I'm full of chicken poop dunno
05:59 PM Tom_L: you know you love it
05:59 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, sounds right
06:00 PM JT-Cave: I must love it lol
06:02 PM Tom_L: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/MfUAAOSwzp1dyxg6/s-l300.jpg
06:02 PM enleth: unterhaus: if you can get a set of regular jaws for your chuck, you can turn them into soft jaw bases
06:02 PM Tom_L: kadet chuck i think
06:06 PM XXCoder: skunkworks: it may not be just you. larger videp channel have same stalling video issue. and other is fine, something is changed in youtube
06:06 PM Tom_L: yt google and maybe somebody else was having issues last few days
06:07 PM XXCoder: tom yeah somehow video is half fps or something
06:07 PM XXCoder: didnt affect all channels though, one im watching is fine
06:11 PM JT-Cave: I guess I need to plug in a 7i96 and get spindle pwm working...
06:27 PM JT-Cave: weird one of my packages arrived in St Louis on the 11th but has not been seen since
06:27 PM JT-Cave: but on the 15th the status is in transit, arriving late
06:28 PM JT-Cave: that's a crock of shit, they lost it
06:32 PM JT-Cave: looks like in transit, arriving late means there is no room on the truck for your package so it sits until after christmas...
06:32 PM Tom_L: it only happens when it's something you really want
06:52 PM roycroft: and i was getting my coat on to leave to get fuel, when fede arrived with my card
06:56 PM CaptHindsight: Chicago to Minneapolis took 5 days via Priority USPS
07:25 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/received_1057980391312584.jpeg
07:25 PM skunkworks: cute...
07:42 PM XXCoder: 1500 euro for big roter https://youtu.be/Femn8sE5Cus
07:45 PM XXCoder: "homemade" "heres wood parts from my friend with cnc router"
08:28 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, where'd you find it?
08:29 PM pfred1: the last place they looked most likely
08:29 PM XXCoder: skunkworks: found out why your video stalled? one of larger channel had same issue
08:42 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJVDlQLMrg8
08:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Softjaws2.jpg
08:44 PM jdh]: you don't have enough shit piled on your bench
08:44 PM Tom_L: i just cleaned it
08:44 PM Tom_L: sry
08:48 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga9n4Laub1Q
08:48 PM Tom_L: part 1
08:58 PM XXCoder: no saw?
08:59 PM Tom_L: no
08:59 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: find what?
08:59 PM Tom_L: the collet holder
08:59 PM skunkworks: the 1mt to er16? amazon
09:00 PM Tom_L: you gonna add a bolt to the end to hold it?
09:00 PM Tom_L: or does the tube go thru?
09:00 PM skunkworks: XXCoder: no - I didn't look
09:00 PM XXCoder: ok
09:01 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: The holder isn't hard.. I am thinking of machining it like the one that came with it. (so the nut tightens it)
09:01 PM skunkworks: there isn't a hole through the spindle)
09:01 PM Tom_L: ahh ok
09:03 PM skunkworks: XXCoder: I know that google has been having problems the last few days
09:03 PM XXCoder: yeah i suspect its upload at specific time
09:03 PM XXCoder: yours and that video is similiar time
09:04 PM XXCoder: later videos and before is fine
09:04 PM XXCoder: might want to upload again?
09:15 PM skunkworks: maybe
09:25 PM unterhaus: I have a buck 6 jaw adjust tru, the jaws probably cost as much as a fairly decent chuck
09:29 PM unterhaus: Buck: parts are not interchangeable but your new chuck can be mounted to the old plate
10:19 PM enleth: unterhaus: interesting, I can still buy brand new jaws for Bison chucks made in 1970s, they just keep making those from the same old blueprints because there isn't anything worth changing in a proven chuck design
10:21 PM unterhaus: I doubt there was anything worth changing on the bucks either
10:22 PM unterhaus: I keep thinking about getting a bison
10:23 PM enleth: fun fact: they're also one of the last manufacturers of Erickson Quick Change tooling for some CNC Bridgeports
10:23 PM enleth: possibly the last if Kennametal no longer makes them
10:30 PM enleth: unterhaus: I just remembered that Abom79 acquired a 6-jaw Bison with fine adjust last year or so and keeps it as the default chuck on one of his lathes
10:41 PM unterhaus: I was thinking about getting a 7i48, but it's not in stock
10:42 PM unterhaus: bummer
10:51 PM Tom_L: unterhaus, did you check jt's site?
