12:45 AM Deejay: moin
02:42 AM Loetmichel: mornin'. meh. Woke up at 0810 to wife saying "dont you have to be at work?" "Oh shi*!"... hectic ensues...
02:42 AM Loetmichel: jymmmm: yes
04:53 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:54 AM XXCoder: yo
05:17 AM gloops: well, blood test i had yesterday came back fine, i told the nurse about a cold id had and lingering symptoms of tight chest and what seems to be a throat infection, Doctor rang today and said Covid sounds likely!
05:19 AM XXCoder: nnot great. went to get test yet?
05:19 AM gloops: no ive not been tested i assumed blood tests would show covid ive had 2 in the last few weeks
05:20 AM XXCoder: they have to specifically test for it
05:20 AM gloops: blood tests dont show it though, Doc offered to get me a test today but i cant get there
05:20 AM XXCoder: they told you they tested covid in blood test?
05:20 AM gloops: no he said today the routine blood test doesnt test for covid
05:21 AM XXCoder: you gonna do it then
05:21 AM gloops: wonder if they sell home tests yet
05:22 AM XXCoder: not so far I know. you probably dont want it, you have to go really deep with swab into nose
05:22 AM gloops: i will go for a test yeah, i cant make it today wifes got car, my van isnt tested, not driven it for months
05:22 AM XXCoder: im not sure how deep but 2 inches or 3?
05:23 AM gloops: ive seen them doing it on TV yeah looks like a deep swab
05:23 AM XXCoder: not sure if I can even do that myself lol
05:24 AM gloops: had a fairly normal but bad cold, temperature, sore throat, cough, it was almost gone in about a week, then came back just the same as first time - thats unusual i thought, went again but left with bad chest and swollen throat
05:26 AM gloops: Doc didnt offer to test me at his surgery which i can walk to, he offered to book me in somwhere about 6 miles away lol
05:27 AM XXCoder: 6 miles is spomething you can walk
05:27 AM XXCoder: a while but yah lol
05:28 AM gloops: not with a bad back as well lol
05:28 AM gloops: im not getting on bus
05:29 AM gloops: it has subsided very slowly over last few days but still there
05:29 AM XXCoder: yeah it goes away a bit then comes back very badly in many cases
05:29 AM XXCoder: im definitely concerned
05:29 AM XXCoder: test.
05:30 AM gloops: i hope this doesnt come back it was bad the second time
05:30 AM XXCoder: if it comes back, it will be deadly bad.
05:31 AM gloops: looking at the typical timeline of covid im approaching the point where chest symptoms usually disappear, around day 27
05:31 AM gloops: but this disease varies wildly when you read about it
05:33 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:33 AM XXCoder: its mutating
05:33 AM XXCoder: immunity only lasts 3 to 9 months from cured time
05:33 AM XXCoder: vaccime sounds like 9 months
05:34 AM XXCoder: please, test. i have read a few laughing at covid myth then die of it days later.
05:35 AM gloops: oh i take it seriously, even more now after coughing when there doesnt seem anything to cough for, but i might not have it, could be a bout of bronchitis or something brought on by cold
05:35 AM gloops: wife had it hers went in about 2 weeks
05:35 AM XXCoder: possibly, just be safe as possible and assume you has it
05:36 AM gloops: the cough is like really coughing as hard as you can, but theres nothing there
05:37 AM gloops: wife said its not covid, covid cough is like coughing for an hour or more - its not been that
05:37 AM XXCoder: some percentage cant smell or taste when sick with covid, though not having that issue dont mean you isnt sick from it
05:37 AM gloops: taste and smell are less but not gone, again just thought it was normal cold
05:38 AM XXCoder: will you actually go?
05:39 AM gloops: yeah im gonna have a test, wife needs to know anyway shes still working
05:39 AM XXCoder: thats good
05:39 AM gloops: i wont be infecting anyone not been going far only with dog
05:39 AM XXCoder: im worried you would not test then have really bad one
05:40 AM gloops: will have to drop her at work and have her car for day
05:41 AM gloops: hopefully it is passing now, if no change in 2 days ive got to ring Doc again anyway
05:41 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:41 AM XXCoder: cases numbers is getting really nasty
05:43 AM XXCoder: half of discord servers, theres in least one that have had someone get seriously sick or die now
05:44 AM XXCoder: my brother knows couple that died from it also
05:44 AM gloops: there were 3 in my village first wave, they all caught it in hospital, hardly knew anyone else who had it
05:44 AM gloops: but hearing a lot more this time, although no deaths
05:47 AM XXCoder: i hope for more simulus, because this arent going away anytime soon.
05:50 AM XXCoder: im considering building a uvc light box to clean mail and such
05:52 AM gloops: have got spray bottle with some proper disinfectant, been spraying anything anyones touch, like wheelie bin handles, door handles and such
05:52 AM XXCoder: my car has disinfecent handwash too
05:52 AM XXCoder: that way i can just shop for stuff then clean hands
05:52 AM gloops: supposed not to spread on paper but cant be sure - lot of envelopes have those plastic windows anyway
05:52 AM XXCoder: also, backup masks
05:53 AM XXCoder: i had to use it couple times when i forget lol
05:53 AM XXCoder: i very rarely go out now. no job to go to, i can buy enough to last 3 weeks or so
06:01 AM Tom_L: morning
06:03 AM JT-Cave: yo
06:06 AM XXCoder: hey the tom
06:06 AM XXCoder: *buy enough food
06:19 AM gloops: wow these covid test kits are pricey from private suppliers
06:19 AM gloops: https://www.better2know.co.uk/shop/products/home-testing-kits/covid-19-test
06:19 AM gloops: £125 !
06:20 AM XXCoder: 119 usd in usa one store
06:21 AM gloops: we can order one free on the NHS i suppose ill have to fill the form in, save messing about go to test place
06:21 AM XXCoder: thats with insurance actually
06:21 AM XXCoder: of course.
06:21 AM XXCoder: 109 to 140 usd, all with insurance. nuts.
06:22 AM gloops: they should be free
06:22 AM gloops: imo anyway
06:22 AM XXCoder: yeah. or in least 2 free a year
06:22 AM Tom_L: it's a racket
06:23 AM XXCoder: (exceptions being work provided for critical places)
06:23 AM XXCoder: prvents someone from testing everyday
06:26 AM XXCoder: possibly monthly is better
06:26 AM XXCoder: anyway
06:26 AM XXCoder: yeah free, with limitions or not.
06:26 AM XXCoder: more tests, less people out without test and cant afford it
06:27 AM gloops: will be loads of people with symptoms not getting tested if they have to pay that much, and spreading it
06:31 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:32 AM XXCoder: sigh
06:32 AM XXCoder: screenshot program cant write to clip
06:33 AM XXCoder: no idea why. it just randomly stopped working. anyone know why?
06:33 AM XXCoder: is there a clip service related to that or what
06:46 AM XXCoder: 3 horrors if people arent careful. thankgivingm xmas, and new year
06:46 AM XXCoder: last one being expecially bad due to ball drop events, large gatherings, etc
06:55 AM stavm: Friends, a bit of advice if you please. Continuing on my LinuxCNC adventure from yesterday, I have figured out communications and I can get my HIGH-Z S 720 T to move using LinuxCNC after finding a compatible set of config files online. Only thing is when I try to home the axes, X and Z are fine but Y seems to be going in the wrong direction and crashing
06:57 AM XXCoder: ou need to set bit of firection. if its existing machine config is specifically for, turn around steppers wires
07:00 AM stavm: thanks for that XXCoder but I stepper motors look like they're fine. Correctly labelled and on the right ports
07:00 AM XXCoder: okay then you should invert homing direction in HAL
07:00 AM XXCoder: is connectors reversable?>
07:00 AM XXCoder: because it matters
07:00 AM stavm: no connectors are D Type
07:00 AM XXCoder: ok
07:01 AM XXCoder: then its bit of config issue
07:05 AM stavm: I found a line in the hal file that reads net home-y <= joint.1.home-sw-in does that look right?
07:06 AM XXCoder: oh wait
07:06 AM XXCoder: ini file, not HAL i think
07:06 AM XXCoder: sorry been quite a bit lol
07:06 AM XXCoder: look for invert axis = false or true something like that
07:06 AM XXCoder: look at axis and joint connection to know which is which also
07:07 AM stavm: Dont have something like INVERT AXIS in .ini file
07:09 AM XXCoder: ahh home search velocity
07:09 AM XXCoder: invert soigns of that
07:09 AM JT-Cave: yep
07:09 AM XXCoder: but look at if axis numbers is correct
07:09 AM XXCoder: ie moving down on z should be negative
07:11 AM stavm: looks like it's working
07:11 AM XXCoder: awesome
07:11 AM stavm: hope it doesnt crash on the other side!
07:12 AM XXCoder: take it slow and be ready to hit estop
07:12 AM stavm: it crashed. I suppose I need to add an offset or something
07:12 AM XXCoder: that or its reading wrong triggers
07:13 AM Tom_L: you don't need to change wires, just change the sign of scale in that axis config section
07:13 AM XXCoder: theres a way to read limits status i have forgotten how. you dont have to actually have it move, just turn on one and read out status
07:13 AM JT-Cave: crashed can be interpreted as many things please use an exact description
07:13 AM stavm: Yeap direction is good now but need to fix the actual home position
07:14 AM Tom_L: it went BOOM!
07:14 AM JT-Cave: I can do that for sure
07:14 AM XXCoder: ie if its switch, hold it down and have it output. jt whats gcode to read out switches or whatever limit sensors status?
07:14 AM stavm: IT should read the limit switch though right?
07:14 AM stavm: It's a magnetic reed switch
07:14 AM XXCoder: yeah like i said config might be set z switch on x axis for example
07:15 AM XXCoder: so you gonna trigger em manually and then read out
07:16 AM gloops: forget now how i set limit switches up, its pretty easy
07:16 AM XXCoder: i cant find that gcode or mcode to output limit status list
07:17 AM JT-Cave: to see the status of a pin use show hal configuration if your using Axis
07:17 AM stavm: Sorry, I dont follow - Noob here.
07:17 AM stavm: ok
07:17 AM gloops: im using BOB anyway not mesa
07:18 AM JT-Cave: stavm, http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/config/ini-homing.html#_homing_sequence
07:19 AM stavm: Interesting. So when I jog X axis and watch the value of home-x it goes red and yellow when it gets close or far from limit but not so when jogging Y
07:20 AM JT-Cave: how you setup homing depends on the physical arrangement of your home switch
07:22 AM gloops: https://ibb.co/ZLWHWXB
07:22 AM gloops: thats a sample of my ini
07:23 AM gloops: so yeah, check the home sequence
07:23 AM veegee: Found someone to transport the forklift for $500
07:24 AM veegee: Not bad. I actually hired him before, did the job no hassle
07:24 AM gloops: bit of a stinger veegee
07:24 AM veegee: I thought it would be much more expensive since it's 120km away, but thankfully not
07:24 AM XXCoder: 500 isnt too bad for heavy and fairly far
07:24 AM veegee: yeah
07:25 AM gloops: $100 for juice
07:26 AM veegee: Also just rediscovered government auction sites with great 3 phase equipment
07:26 AM veegee: like a 3 phase bench grinder for $50
07:42 AM stavm: Another interesting find. When I hold a magnet up to X limit or Z limit I get a signal but not on Y
07:42 AM stavm: Either the switch is messed or it's a misconfig
07:47 AM gloops: no multimeter?
07:50 AM gloops: if you can check the wiring at the switch for 10v, you can work back, mke sure the wires are in the right pins, and making contact, screwed in etc, they often look like they are but arent
07:50 AM gloops: usually something stupid
07:56 AM stavm: thanks gloops. I switched around the config for X and Y limits and tested the Y switch on X limit and vice versa and confirmed it's a switch problem. I'll get out my multimeter next!
07:56 AM stavm: What a fun day Im having
08:31 AM veegee: https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemid=82&acctid=6593 this one's mine for sure
08:32 AM veegee: fuck me. It's a 4 hour drive away.
08:33 AM veegee: 800km works out to about 100L of gasoline
08:37 AM satiowadahc: Good way to join in the morning, someone saying "fuck me" :P
08:37 AM stavm: so gloops and all others who helped me today., Im eternally grateful. figured out the limit switch problem. was probably a stick reed switch. Tool a multimeter to it. Gave it a hard knock with a screwdriver handle and it's woken up. Likely will have to replace it soon though
08:40 AM stavm: thanks again to all
09:22 AM jymmmm: Morning
04:14 PM jymmmm: Hey Tom_L
04:16 PM Tom_L: hay jymmmm
05:10 PM _unreal_: working on milling my z spindle mount adapter
05:10 PM _unreal_: for the new machine
05:11 PM _unreal_: drill cycle right now
05:11 PM _unreal_: I fucked up my hole locations some how
05:11 PM _unreal_: on the mounts in my cad drawing re-drilling about 8 of them
05:12 PM _unreal_: sigh
05:33 PM tiwake: _unreal_: I've seen worse
05:34 PM _unreal_: ya they dont even matter
05:34 PM _unreal_: they are only blind hold downs
05:34 PM _unreal_: nothing like drilling at 15k rpm :)
05:35 PM tiwake: what diameter hole?
05:35 PM tiwake: in what material
05:39 PM _unreal_: 1/8th pilot
05:40 PM _unreal_: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/717411349541683212/778397399927881738/20201117_181242.mp4
05:44 PM t4nk_freenode: it goes down to 13 though, _unreal_
05:45 PM t4nk_freenode: is that a solid piece of aluminium?
05:48 PM _unreal_: yep
05:48 PM _unreal_: nice 13mm scrap
05:54 PM JT-Cave: whew a long day here
05:56 PM Tom_L: 2nd that
05:58 PM TekniQue: https://i.imgur.com/vNl4OCd.png
05:58 PM TekniQue: what font am I missing?
05:59 PM Tom_L: you could look at the axis source file... i dunno
06:02 PM TekniQue: looks like courier bolt
06:02 PM TekniQue: bold
06:02 PM Tom_L: that's what i see
06:03 PM jymmmm: Bah, I forget that Loetmichel is asleep
06:04 PM Tom_L: Bah, wake him up!
06:04 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: I've tried waking up Loetmichel but I think he's turned into a zombie
06:20 PM JT-Cave: working on a 10' x 30" MDF poop table insert... joining up two pieces of 1/2" MDF in the middle so far it's working
06:21 PM JT-Cave: gotta add the doublers on the bottom to reinforce the joint and make it level
06:22 PM * JT-Cave wonders why debian 10 has a zillion fonts
06:22 PM TekniQue: well I changed courier for freemono in axis.py and it works
06:48 PM TekniQue: File "./pncconf", line 49, in <module>
06:48 PM TekniQue: from multifilebuilder import MultiFileBuilder
06:48 PM TekniQue: ImportError: No module named multifilebuilder
06:57 PM _unreal_: TekniQue, have you done any "updates"
06:57 PM _unreal_: and what version
06:57 PM _unreal_: ARG.. I'm milling my big adapter rigth now
06:58 PM _unreal_: for the big cnc machine's spindle mount
07:00 PM TekniQue: yeah I forgot to set the environment
07:32 PM flyback: BMCC
07:32 PM * flyback headbutts TekniQue
07:34 PM * Tom_L dropkicks flyback
07:34 PM flyback: hehehe
07:35 PM flyback: so say
07:35 PM flyback: you find a toy windmill prop set
07:35 PM flyback: and you find a motor whose shaft almost fits it but the hole needs to be widened
07:36 PM flyback: how the HELL do you ensure that any drill bit you use is perfectely centered before you widen the hole
07:36 PM flyback: this is one of the #1 reasons I never did anything
07:36 PM flyback: stuff like this
07:37 PM flyback: oviousky on a lathe I assume you have some autocentering tool
07:37 PM flyback: but I don't have any of that shit
07:37 PM Tom_L: try the drill that just fits the hole and clamp the part in place
07:37 PM Tom_L: swap to a larger drill and have at it
07:37 PM Tom_L: drill press
07:38 PM Tom_L: well, not _perfectly_ but close
07:38 PM Tom_L: primitive method
07:39 PM Tom_L: get a cheap drillpress and a decent set of bits
07:41 PM flyback: not worth it for this :)
07:42 PM Tom_L: it _is_ reuseable ya know
07:42 PM flyback: I know but I live at my folks house and I have no room to walk as it is
07:42 PM jymmmm: disposable drillpresses?
07:43 PM enleth: flyback: twist drills actually are more or less self-centering, as long as the grind on the two cutting edges is even
07:43 PM flyback: with the data reovery project
07:43 PM enleth: flyback: cutting pressure is what centers it
07:43 PM flyback: mabye when I move into my own house
07:44 PM Tom_L: you'll be an old man by then
07:44 PM enleth: flyback: even when drilling on a lathe, the new hole ends up coaxial with the previous smaller one thanks to the drill's inherent self-centering (*if* the grind is right), not from anything that the lathe itself might be doing
07:45 PM enleth: that basically means you want a brand new drill bit for this, unless you're *really* good at sharpening your drill bits or have a proper sharpening jig
07:47 PM enleth: conversely, if your drill bit's grind is off-balance (one cutting edge is at a different angle, or set back more than the other), no amount of centering, clamping and machine rigidity will help you, the drill will veer off to the side anyway
07:48 PM enleth: what you need a machine (drill press, lathe, ...) for is ensuring the drill bit comes in parallel to the hole
07:49 PM enleth: so don't freehand it, but you will be fine with the simplest, shittiest drill press
07:56 PM _unreal_: sigh.... waiting on my machine to finish milling the adapter
09:59 PM veegee: They delivered the electric forklift today. I fucking love it. It's always available to use instantly
09:59 PM veegee: Previous owner let the battery discharge too much though. Time to augment it with LiFePO4 cells
10:02 PM veegee: also came with a dumb charger. I really hope it doesn't overcharge the cells
10:05 PM XXCoder: is there smart chargers out there?
10:17 PM flyback: yes
10:17 PM flyback: the only downside to smart chargers other than cost
10:17 PM flyback: a) you can't use them with damaged batteries that still power some things because it flags it as defective
10:18 PM flyback: b) if you flatten a battery by accident, it won't charge it
10:18 PM XXCoder: interesting. i guess dumb one would fix b
10:18 PM XXCoder: while a i dunno
10:22 PM flyback: dumb one might be able to charge a damaged battery that still works for some loads
10:22 PM flyback: it's still a CANUCKED battery
10:24 PM roycroft: veegee seems to already have a "dumb" charger
10:24 PM roycroft: so it's not a choice between one or the other
10:24 PM roycroft: if he gets a smart charger it will manage the batteries better
10:24 PM roycroft: and if he finds at some point that the smart charger will not charge a fully discharged battery he can use the charger he already has to charge it
10:26 PM XXCoder: roy yeah thats what i guessed
10:26 PM XXCoder: no reason to sell or throw out dumb charger
10:26 PM roycroft: unless he changes battery technology
10:26 PM XXCoder: yah
11:48 PM gloops: covid test booked for 11 am
11:48 PM XXCoder: thats good
11:49 PM gloops: probably too late as i think this is passing now, but will be good to know either way
11:50 PM gloops: slight concern is - if this isnt covid, i really dont want to catch covid at the test centre...pretty sure id struggle with someone else on top of this
11:50 PM gloops: something else
11:51 PM gloops: that doesnt happen much though - i hope
