02:02 AM Deejay: moin
04:04 AM jymmmm: Morning, I just spent $600 for a battery from china :D
04:12 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:23 AM jymmmm: Hola andypugh
04:28 AM CaptHindsight: I think he's at his day job for a few more hours
04:29 AM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Morning, ah okey, just saw him enter
04:32 AM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: how's it goin?
04:36 AM CaptHindsight: winter came back last night
04:47 AM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: how cold? I've had the wood stove running for 5 days now
04:47 AM jymmmm: gotts reboot, brb
04:54 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:55 AM Loetmichel: soo, did the "karen" and escalated my plight to the complaint department of DHL express. Service person on the other end: "Oh, thats bad. Yes, i wrote 'tried extorting 7 eur tip, when that didnt work he threatened to return the package'. We will deliver it again tomorrow with a different courier, please have 43 eur at hand, the couriers have no change on them as a general rule. And no card
04:55 AM Loetmichel: terminals."
05:01 AM miss0r: ... o_0 what the hell did I just read?
06:09 AM Tom_L: morning
06:13 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:13 AM JT-Cave: where did you get your spindle from?
06:21 AM Tom_L: glockcnc
06:21 AM Tom_L: you can get them from china though
06:22 AM Tom_itx: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/310V-1-2kw-electric-motor-1200w_60737993181.html?spm=a2700.7724857.videoBannerStyleB_top.9.32c7751dTHUvzS
06:36 AM Tom_L: that may not be the exact one but close
06:36 AM * JT-Cave puts on his chicken tender outfit and gets ready to start his day
06:47 AM * JT-Cave comes back inside to warm his fingers up... and remembers he thought to get some gloves yesterday but forgot
06:56 AM jymmmm: morning, part 2
07:00 AM jymmmm: JT I found some cuff length insulated work gloves (kinda like canvas, but not) at tractor supply for $6
07:02 AM jymmmm: they're pretty decent gloves, warm, and good grip
07:02 AM beachbumpete1: MORNING
07:02 AM beachbumpete1: or is it morning
07:24 AM JT-Cave: TSC is 40 miles away from me, I was just thinking I'd get a pair out of the shop and bring them down here
07:25 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsgwNpNW-Ww
08:08 AM jymmmm: JT No worries, just thought i'd mention them because they are insulated, and I don't come across them in work gloves very often.
08:15 AM jymmmm: My hands start aching when it gets too cold for too long.
08:35 AM JT-Cave: wow usps just delivered my package in a special package vehicle
08:49 AM Loetmichel: hey, anyone know how these plugs are called and where to get them in germany? cant find any local source or any source at all -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17981&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
08:53 AM enleth: Loetmichel: if you are free to replace both sides, you should be able to find something suitable in Neutrik's catalog
08:54 AM enleth: I don't think this is one of their plugs, but it's a similar design
08:54 AM enleth: what's that cable for?
08:55 AM Loetmichel: enleth: even the micro series of neutrik is 2 times that size
08:55 AM Loetmichel: someone in another channel found it though, got it thanks.
08:55 AM Loetmichel: its a plug for a 3 button hand pendant
08:57 AM gregcnc: binder?
09:02 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17984&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
09:02 AM Loetmichel: yes, binder
09:29 AM buzzmarshall: socapex should also have that connector as its common in commerical lighting rigs
09:29 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, got a link to the spoke video?
09:36 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:39 AM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/customers/Foxy/
09:44 AM Tom_L: yeah i found it
09:44 AM Tom_L: was looking on yt at first
10:56 AM TekniQue: the Debian Linuxcnc distribution flat out refuses to start an X server on my Intel NUC i3-10110U
10:56 AM TekniQue: but installing Ubuntu 20.04 LTS works perfectly
10:57 AM roycroft: so use what works for you
10:58 AM TekniQue: so I guess I'll have to install a special kernel on ubuntu?
10:59 AM roycroft: i don't know the particulars of ubuntu, but there's a preempt kernel available for debian as part of the standard distibution now
11:00 AM roycroft: since ubuntu is based on debian and uses the same kernel as debian, there's a decent chance you can install that kernel on ubuntu as well
11:01 AM roycroft: on your ubuntu: apt-cache search linux-image-rt
11:02 AM roycroft: if it finds that package then you can install a preempt kernel easily
11:04 AM TekniQue: Yeah I'll have another go at it on the weekend or next week
11:10 AM roycroft: just run that one command and you'll know right away if it's going to be easy or not
11:10 AM roycroft: and then plan accordingly
11:12 AM jymmmm: JT What is this "White thing" ??? https://gnipsel.com/images/tweaker-5/Tweaker-5-01.jpg
11:15 AM Rab: jymmmm, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_stationery
11:16 AM jymmmm: Rab: (sarcasim)
11:16 AM Rab: ;)
11:18 AM gregcnc: you still find that stuff in places
11:20 AM jymmmm: I loved my dot matrix printer (Citizen GSX20+color) , would still have it if other printers weren't faster
11:22 AM jymmmm: Heh, I remember buying it, it was either $300 for the printer, or $300 for 10MB HDD
11:23 AM Rab: Certain printers e.g. Okidata Microline 320 are still quite valuable for certain business workflows that depend on multipart forms (and likely have printer-specific codes hardcoded into the application).
11:23 AM Rab: But multipart seems to have given way to just laserprinting a bunch of copies.
11:28 AM Rab: I e-wasted anything dot matrix long ago, but I kept my awesome NEC Spinwriter: https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-e96f3af43f566ab1714f26260b920994-c
11:40 AM JT-Cave: jymmmm, paper
11:56 AM jymmmm: JT Sorry, I was trying to be funny (dot matrix fan fold paper)
12:01 PM JT-Cave: TekniQue, IO
12:02 PM JT-Cave: 'm pretty sure pncconf can make a config for the 7i92
12:03 PM * JT-Cave sees lunch minute is up time to get back to work
12:20 PM jymmmm: JT Man, your boss is a real jerk, do you at least get 2 minutes for dinner?
01:13 PM TekniQue: JT-Cave: ok, it's been 10 years since the last time I did this
01:13 PM TekniQue: my machine has been running without trouble on the same set up since 2010
01:14 PM TekniQue: only thing I'm confused about is why the 7i92 has a male DB25 plug
01:15 PM TekniQue: but I'll just get a gender changer for that
01:25 PM roycroft: hmm, i just found a nice aluminium heat sink that would work for my gecko drives, but the fins are spaced farther apart than i'd like
01:25 PM roycroft: i also ran into some stainless steel cpu heat sinks made by hp that have fins that are really thin and spaced really close together
01:26 PM roycroft: now i have to decide which will probably work best
01:26 PM roycroft: the ss ones have way more surface area, but thermal conductivity is a lot lower than with aluminium
01:27 PM roycroft: in the end it will probably boil down to ease of mounting - both the drives and the heat sinks
01:42 PM TekniQue: I doubt they'll get massively hot anyway
01:43 PM TekniQue: as long as you have some air flow and your ambient temperature isn't 40°C
01:43 PM TekniQue: and even if it is, I mount variable frequency drives inside cabinets that run that hot all the time
02:21 PM pcw_home: TekNique: "only thing I'm confused about is why the 7i92 has a male DB25 plug" The 7I92M has a male DB25 (for compatibility with mesa daughterboards) the 7I92 has a Female DB25
03:26 PM jymmmm: Ok, whatcha think.... Get 3x8ga=1ga (which I need to get 8ga anyway), OR get some 8ga and 2ga too???
03:26 PM jymmmm: Both will be under 3ft
03:33 PM CaptHindsight: there is code that covers the minimum size wire that may be paralleled
03:48 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: I'm going by this marine chart... http://assets.bluesea.com/files/resources/newsletter/images/DC_wire_selection_chartlg.jpg
03:48 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: ...and this calculator https://www.wirebarn.com/Combined-Wire-Gauge-Calculator_ep_42.html
03:50 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: I'm dong about 120A which is 2ga, so 3x8ga=1ga seemslike it should work
03:52 PM JT-Cave: TekniQue, you have a 7i92M if you have a male connector
03:59 PM TekniQue: I see
03:59 PM TekniQue: but there is nothing else on the website
03:59 PM TekniQue: there's 7i92h which has a 100mil header
04:00 PM TekniQue: and 7i92M which is touted to have the same connector and pinout as the parallel port
04:00 PM TekniQue: The 7I92M uses standard parallel port pinouts and connectors for compatibility with most parallel port interfaced motion control / CNC breakout cards/ multi axis step motor drives, allowing a motion control performance boost while retaining a reliable real time Ethernet interface.
04:00 PM JT-Shop: yea and it can plug right into the daughter card
04:01 PM JT-Shop: the edge connectors are 7i92 DB25F, 7i92M DB25M, 7i92H IDC 26
04:02 PM JT-Shop: they have not made any 7i92's in quite some time
04:02 PM TekniQue: I see
04:03 PM TekniQue: the manual makes no distinction between 7i92M or 7i92
04:04 PM JT-Shop: if your using a cable a short flat ribbon cable is ideal
04:04 PM JT-Shop: quite possible they are duplicates
04:06 PM roycroft: speaking of such things
04:06 PM roycroft: i'd prefer not to mount my 7i76 directly onto the back panel of my controller enclosure
04:06 PM TekniQue: well I hope the pinout is the same, the female and male PCB footprints for D-sub connectors are different
04:06 PM roycroft: is a short ribbon cable going out to the a db-25 connector ok for that?
04:07 PM pcw_home: we actually have all 3 7I92 type currently
04:07 PM JT-Shop: cool, I'll restock some
04:08 PM pcw_home: we build some more plain 7I92s because we had a good sized OEM order
04:08 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, from a 7i92 to the 7i76?
04:08 PM roycroft: from 5i25 to 7i76
04:08 PM roycroft: i.e. the external connector
04:09 PM JT-Shop: that's a question for pcw_home :)
04:09 PM pcw_home: the pinouts are all the same (same for IDC 26 as well if you drop wire 26)
04:09 PM roycroft: who fortunately is here agai
04:09 PM roycroft: n
04:09 PM roycroft: and welcome back :)
04:10 PM pcw_home: been really busy
04:10 PM roycroft: life happens
04:10 PM JT-Shop: I know that feeling
04:10 PM pcw_home: supposed to be retired
04:10 PM TekniQue: pcw_home: ok, it's just confusing why there need to be two different versions, male or female connector
04:10 PM JT-Shop: the female plugs right into the daughter card
04:11 PM JT-Shop: no cable is needed
04:11 PM pcw_home: right, male because it can plug directly onto cards like the 7I77
04:11 PM JT-Shop: yea I meant male lol
04:11 PM * JT-Shop needs to check on the pullets
04:11 PM pcw_home: female because its just like a parallel port (and matches the 5I25 etc)
04:12 PM pcw_home: 26 IDC if you need a short cable to a panel
04:12 PM roycroft: 6" would be fine?
04:13 PM roycroft: i may not need it to be that logn
04:13 PM roycroft: but i'd like to have a little flexibility
04:13 PM pcw_home: a couple feet is fine
04:14 PM roycroft: great
04:14 PM roycroft: i'll mount the board, make the panel cutout, then make the ribbon cable to length
04:17 PM roycroft: and the same with an rs-422 connector?
04:18 PM roycroft: or should that be shielded inside the enclosure?
04:21 PM pcw_home: RS-422?
04:21 PM roycroft: isn't that what the interface for a 7i73 is?
04:22 PM roycroft: sorry, i haven't looked at this stuff in a long time, and i'm just getting ready to do a controller built
04:22 PM roycroft: build
04:23 PM pcw_home: Yes shielding is not normally needed as long as you have twisted pairs
04:23 PM roycroft: ok, so i can just some cat6 cable for that inside the enclosure
04:23 PM JT-Shop: yep
04:23 PM roycroft: i just need to bring an rj-45 jack out to the back panel
04:24 PM pcw_home: Yeah you can use standard Ethernet hardware for all of that
04:24 PM roycroft: i'm planning on installing the 7i76 on one side of the enclosure, and the gecko drives and power connectors to the motors on the other side
04:24 PM roycroft: keeping them separated as best i can
05:49 PM JT-Cave: hopefully get the sunrise/sunset led going tomorrow
06:04 PM Tom_L: if not it'll just be a cloudy day
06:31 PM roycroft: sweet
06:32 PM roycroft: i finally got my rpi4 installed in my 3d printer, and can talk to the printer with it
06:40 PM XXCoder: yay
06:44 PM Tom_L: quick n dirty project: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/phone_stand/phone_stand2.jpg

06:59 PM _unreal: got some of my z parts cut and prepped today
06:59 PM _unreal: now trying to solve ways to attach the spindle
