12:52 AM Deejay: moin
04:45 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:45 AM XXCoder: yo
04:45 AM XXCoder: saw your wheat growing video
04:45 AM XXCoder: interesting
04:52 AM JT-Cave: yea, I need to finish it up
04:55 AM JT-Cave: wow 4,000 cases in MO Thursday and 4.500 yesterday
04:55 AM XXCoder: :(
04:56 AM XXCoder: 114k total cases in wa
04:57 AM JT-Cave: 205k here
04:58 AM gloops: i was in hospital a couple of weeks back, nurse said there were 9 wards of covid patients
04:58 AM gloops: (UK)
04:58 AM XXCoder: 11k this county. not too many but concerning.
04:59 AM JT-Cave: here in Butler county 1,500
04:59 AM XXCoder: it sucks that soon we will finally have goverment that will work against covid
04:59 AM XXCoder: months late
04:59 AM gloops: not sure how much effect govmt can have tbh
05:00 AM JT-Cave: yea you can blame covid on the president all you want but he does not control individuals
05:00 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:00 AM JT-Cave: and they are the spreading force
05:00 AM XXCoder: keep in mind that shutdown first 2 months would have seriously decreased number of cases
05:01 AM gloops: we had a total lockdown earlier in the year and yeah that slowed it right up, soon as lockdown was lifted though it came straight back
05:01 AM XXCoder: yes it'd hit ecomony hard, but effect is shorter term
05:01 AM JT-Cave: yep
05:01 AM gloops: we're now in lockdown 2
05:02 AM gloops: we've been wearing masks compulsory for months, not stopped it really
05:02 AM XXCoder: one thing that made me roll my eyes though. "we stopped covid" at trump race website. apparently added during few days ago worse number of cases record
05:02 AM gloops: think Trump could have set a better example though lol
05:03 AM XXCoder: gloops it does work in most case. washington state was #1 hotspot for usa. i dont think we are at top half now
05:03 AM XXCoder: i only wore my mask 3 times last month lol
05:03 AM XXCoder: probably because i left home as many times :P
05:04 AM gloops: ive hardly been out this time, been in local shop quickly 2 times without mask i have to admit
05:05 AM gloops: more likely to catch it from the door handle
05:05 AM JT-Cave: I wish I could find a new N95 mine is getting ragged
05:05 AM XXCoder: yeah i xclean my hands after i return to my to go home
05:05 AM gloops: i take the dog every day twice but dont have to touch anything or approach anyone, countryside
05:05 AM XXCoder: *my car
05:06 AM XXCoder: masks is to protect others unless its high end mask
05:06 AM gloops: yes
05:06 AM XXCoder: its annoying to me when someone says "im not sick why should i wear one"
05:06 AM XXCoder: its due to that few days between infective start and symtons. sigh
05:07 AM gloops: i was passing shop in car, pulled up ran to shop got through door and though ...sht forget mask
05:07 AM JT-Cave: st louis county has 32k cases
05:07 AM XXCoder: heh its why i have emergacy backup mask
05:07 AM gloops: nobody in shop anyway and owner is behind perspex screen
05:08 AM XXCoder: its unconfortable long term thats why i dont wear it anymore but its great for backup@
05:08 AM XXCoder: backup mask. so 2020s
05:08 AM XXCoder: -s
05:08 AM gloops: first wave here 3 died in my village, about 20k people
05:08 AM gloops: this time im hearing a lot more people i know with it
05:08 AM XXCoder: so far 10 people i know have someone die
05:09 AM JT-Cave: yea my LED's will arrive Tuesday
05:09 AM XXCoder: including one truly sad one where ones brother is deaf and couldnt talk with anyone for few weeks then he died
05:09 AM JT-Cave: he couldn't use a pen and paper?
05:09 AM XXCoder: nah it was very bad case of covid
05:11 AM XXCoder: it sucks
05:12 AM gloops: thats the tragi thing with this yeah, lot of elderly parents or people with other illness dying in isolation
05:12 AM XXCoder: that guy was 40s and healthy
05:12 AM XXCoder: barely older than me, and far healther than me
05:13 AM XXCoder: for my age chances is 9% or so
05:14 AM gloops: i wouldnt think about it too much lol
05:14 AM XXCoder: mine is higher chances than that due to health issues.
05:15 AM XXCoder: mom live with me as well shes 70
05:15 AM gloops: doc was asking me some questions other week - how long you been smoking now? since i left school lol
05:15 AM gloops: 30 odd years
05:15 AM gloops: she gave me this knowing look and sighed
05:15 AM XXCoder: thts not good, i recall that smoke damaged lungs make covid far more leathal
05:16 AM gloops: yeah bound to, any respiratory disease
05:16 AM XXCoder: yeah. i have similiar risk, my lungs is damaged
05:17 AM XXCoder: i dont smoke, it would kill me lol
05:17 AM gloops: did this thing where i had to breathe in as deep as i could then blow into the device, said i was fine anyway
05:18 AM XXCoder: small percentage get lucky like that
05:18 AM gloops: covid fills your lungs with water, pneumonia
05:19 AM XXCoder: more or less. its immune system overresponding that does that
05:19 AM XXCoder: irration of lungs by smoking makes it more likely
05:19 AM XXCoder: or pollution. one of reasons nyc was pretty bad, though not that bad when compared to number of people there
05:20 AM XXCoder: covid would be far worse in ye olde days of brown air you can taste and cut
05:20 AM gloops: well yeah, anyone with asthma, that kind of thing
05:22 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:23 AM XXCoder: its unfortunate that that study shows immune system dont retain covid immunity
05:23 AM XXCoder: lasts maybe 8 months
05:23 AM XXCoder: 365k people study
05:23 AM XXCoder: it might become something like flu shot. or maybe vaccine makes it last forever
05:24 AM XXCoder: or maybe each 6 months till covid is gone
05:25 AM XXCoder: its unpredictable in this area for now :(
05:27 AM gloops: it probably mutate around the vaccines anyway in time
05:27 AM XXCoder: yeah hence my flu shot comment
05:27 AM XXCoder: flu shots is each year due to that
05:28 AM XXCoder: covid is very stable for rna virus which may be key to stopping
05:28 AM gloops: its here now, a lot of people seem to think its just gonna disappear when vaccines come out and thats the end of it
05:28 AM gloops: i dont think so
05:28 AM XXCoder: or when people say it is myth, or just go away in heat, or was stopped
05:28 AM gloops: it is pushing research though yeah, maybe the outcome will be good, they might end up eradicating all flu
05:29 AM XXCoder: masks may ironically wipe other dieases
05:29 AM XXCoder: though not likely
05:30 AM gloops: this all came from one bat or whatever (if it wasnt lab made) shows how easy it is now to go global
05:30 AM XXCoder: definitely a downside
05:30 AM XXCoder: global is why we enjoy many benefits
05:30 AM XXCoder: but theres downside
05:30 AM gloops: should have been massive action to contain it at the beginning
05:30 AM XXCoder: it was series of mess ups
05:31 AM XXCoder: it wouldnt be as bad if it wasnt china holiday and people returning home
05:31 AM XXCoder: bad timing, that
05:31 AM gloops: yeah all that, most nations arent going to stop all travel on the basis of early rumours and speculation, they didnt know what they were dealing with
05:31 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:32 AM gloops: by the time they did act - too late
05:33 AM gloops: the short term immunity is a real bad thing, if herd immunity isnt reached in that window - herd immunity will never be attained
05:34 AM XXCoder: usa would need to pony up to massive vaccine numbers
05:34 AM XXCoder: nd make it free
05:34 AM XXCoder: i cant afford 1k shot now. not without a job
05:35 AM gloops: its got to be free
05:35 AM gloops: the national economy is at stake, they cant make the vaccine about money
05:36 AM gloops: well, they shouldnt..
05:36 AM XXCoder: company i worked at did another round of layoffs
05:36 AM XXCoder: this time laying off my friend who worked there 13 years
05:36 AM gloops: thats terrible XXCoder
05:37 AM XXCoder: yeah. it was just chain of shit lol
05:37 AM gloops: this year has been shit all round
05:37 AM XXCoder: first boeing 737 max (remember that?), then metal tariffs, then covid
05:37 AM gloops: your compnay lost out on a boeing contract?
05:37 AM XXCoder: no
05:38 AM XXCoder: suspended
05:38 AM gloops: ahh yeah
05:38 AM XXCoder: 737 max is crashy plane model
05:39 AM gloops: well ive heard of the american rustbelt but was only recently i watched a few documentaries about it, shocking the amount of industry the usa lost
05:39 AM gloops: covid on top is a disaster
05:40 AM XXCoder: dont forget metal tariffs
05:40 AM XXCoder: that hurt
05:40 AM gloops: yeah wasnt that supposed to help US steelmakers?
05:40 AM XXCoder: it was reaction to tariffs on china
05:41 AM gloops: so the products you made became more expensive ?
05:41 AM XXCoder: part of that couple month long tariffs war
05:41 AM XXCoder: im unclear on sequence now, was a bit ago
05:42 AM gloops: probably the way out is something like biden is proposing - massive stimulus
05:42 AM XXCoder: one of results is some farmers lost job in usa, and metal cost went up
05:42 AM gloops: with conditions the money is spent in the usa
05:42 AM XXCoder: maybe
05:42 AM XXCoder: i'd go for multi-month smallish but livable simulus
05:43 AM gloops: get some infrastructure projects going
05:43 AM gloops: bullet trains or something
05:44 AM XXCoder: no shit we need that
05:44 AM XXCoder: more jobs also.
05:44 AM XXCoder: if i was president i'd also invest in some clean power
05:44 AM XXCoder: far more jobs than coal or any other
05:45 AM gloops: if they put 20 trillion into the economy i think there will be a quick increase in jobs
05:46 AM gloops: so long as they dont give it the banks who just buy stocks with it
05:46 AM XXCoder: stock buyback should be illegal
05:46 AM XXCoder: it WAS illegal
05:46 AM XXCoder: in least specific type, forgot details now
05:48 AM gloops: your economy does seem to be roaring back now anyway XXCoder, maybe your old place will be sending back for you soon
05:48 AM XXCoder: sure dont seem so to me heh
05:48 AM XXCoder: i can hardly find jobs
05:49 AM gloops: it will pick up
05:49 AM XXCoder: oh no question on that
05:49 AM XXCoder: its matter of when not if
06:14 AM jymmmm: JT Heh, that works, looks great!
06:14 AM jymmmm: morning
06:15 AM JT-Cave: what's that?
06:23 AM jymmmm: JT your stairs
06:37 AM jymmmm: These CREE led flood lamps are pretty impressive, much brighter than expected... https://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-150W-Equivalent-Bright-White-3000K-PAR38-Dimmable-Exceptional-Light-Quality-LED-40-Degree-Flood-Light-Bulb-TPAR38-1803040FH25-12DE26-1-11/304150141
06:41 AM JT-Cave: ah thanks
06:42 AM JT-Cave: I think the ones I have are 2500 lumens or something like that
06:56 AM Tom_L: morning
06:57 AM JT-Cave: yo
06:58 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czZrpFbY8DA
06:58 AM JT-Cave: noisy spindle lol
06:58 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, just for you
06:59 AM Tom_L: the belts are a bit noisy
07:03 AM JT-Cave: if you run it without the belt is it silent?
07:04 AM jymmmm: Tom_L: Don't fuck with momma
07:14 AM Tom_L: i wouldn't say it's silent
07:26 AM tiwake: euro people think they are so superior with the metric system its funny
07:27 AM Loetmichel: not we are superior. the metric system is.
07:27 AM Loetmichel: a lot easier to use.
07:27 AM tiwake: except its not... heh
07:28 AM tiwake: but yes, most people that are saying that think they are superior without actually saying it
07:28 AM Loetmichel: why should one have arbritrary gaps in between different measurements and have to handle shitloads of fractions when base 10 is so easy to handle?
07:29 AM tiwake: is it more difficult though? not in my experience
07:29 AM Tom_L: metric is for the simple minded
07:29 AM Loetmichel: Tom_L: indeed.
07:30 AM tiwake: as with anything that is being designed, keep track of the units... for machining, US standard is actually superior
07:30 AM Loetmichel: tiwake: it IS more difficult. You just dont notice it because you learned it from childhood. you do the math needed unconciously
07:30 AM Loetmichel: t learn metric is easy though, because each step is just 1000 of the last one.
07:31 AM Loetmichel: 1km -> 1000m -> 1000000mm
07:31 AM tiwake: use use metric notation with inches if you want... problem solved
07:31 AM Loetmichel: unlike imperial
07:32 AM tiwake: or not, because who gives a shit
07:32 AM Loetmichel: 1mile -> 1760 yards -> 5280 feet-> 63360 inches
07:32 AM tiwake: only people who think they are superior do
07:33 AM Loetmichel: tiwake: i have both metric and imperial tools here. (because i occasional have to repair american made military tech)... its always a hassle to find the right spanner/nut.
07:33 AM Loetmichel: <- doesent like fractions.
07:34 AM tiwake: same, as well as designed rocket engines with both metric and US standard, and manufacturing parts in both metric and standard
07:34 AM Loetmichel: ah, i see. you want to troll about others thinking they are superior, you arent interested in a discussion about the systems at all.
07:35 AM Loetmichel: ok, then EOD from me, i have better things to do than to feed a troll
07:35 AM tiwake: heh, cute
07:38 AM Loetmichel: [14:31] <tiwake> only people who think they are superior do
07:38 AM Loetmichel: q.e.d.
09:52 AM syyl: for machining, US standard is actually superior
09:52 AM syyl: explain.
09:59 AM tiwake: syyl: inches breaks down to a nicer round number for the maximum accuracy of machines and general measuring tools (lathes, mills, micrometers, dial indicators) than the meter does
10:00 AM skunkworks: oh god...
10:01 AM Tom_L: it's just a matter of perspective :)
10:01 AM Tom_L: i second the god thing
10:01 AM syyl: what? :D
10:01 AM skunkworks: just do a search for in/mm and you will find enough arguments to keep you busy for a few weeks.
10:01 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, are you running a pid loop on your spindle?
10:02 AM skunkworks: Tom_L: no. - not in linuxcnc. I am using the stmbl amp and it does are really decent job at speed control
10:02 AM Tom_L: i i thought about adding that on mine
10:02 AM Tom_L: i had it on the sherline spindle
10:02 AM Tom_L: ahh
10:02 AM skunkworks: The lathe with a dc amp does have a pid loop and it is ok - still need to tune it a bit
10:02 AM Tom_L: i kinda wish i had one of those
10:03 AM Tom_L: mine is low on one end and high on the other
10:03 AM Tom_L: i tried both 0-10v and 0-5v
10:03 AM Tom_L: messed whith the pwmgen scale a bit but not alot yet
10:04 AM skunkworks: hmm - I ended up using linecurve for the control with that drive
10:04 AM skunkworks: it worked ok
10:04 AM Tom_L: what's that?
10:05 AM Tom_L: i'm just wondering how the PID loop would act with that drive since it's doing it's own regulating too
10:05 AM skunkworks: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/man/man9/lincurve.9.html
10:05 AM Tom_L: for the spindle?
10:05 AM Tom_L: hmm
10:05 AM skunkworks: I think if you used lincurve to get the rpm to match command - you will probably be good
10:06 AM Tom_L: can you post your file somewhere as an example?
10:06 AM skunkworks: you have an x/y lookup table at various points to make the rpm come out right
10:06 AM skunkworks: hmm - I don't think I have it here - but I am going to the shop later in the day
10:07 AM Tom_L: np, i may not get to it til later anyway
10:07 AM Tom_L: gotta run
10:08 AM skunkworks: ttyl
10:09 AM skunkworks: you would want to make the command/actual as close as you could before you apply a pid anyway.
10:20 AM tiwake: https://www.thomsonlinear.com/en/product/R-0505L-72.000-FLW-XX-XX
10:21 AM tiwake: its rather long though, I don't need it to be that long... heh
10:43 AM _unreal: sup
10:43 AM _unreal: ok working on getting my ESTOP wired up
10:43 AM _unreal: just finished wiring
10:43 AM _unreal: got to get software setup now
10:52 AM _unreal: ESTOP works
10:52 AM _unreal: sweet
10:52 AM _unreal: I have two estop buttons one on each side of the machine
10:58 AM _unreal: been trying to do some tests with some different NC files but lcnc keeps telling me can not do g1 with out feed rate
10:58 AM _unreal: how do I get rid of the feed rate requirement on g1?
10:59 AM _unreal: ?
11:01 AM W1N9Zr0: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode/other-code.html#sec:set-feed-rate
11:04 AM _unreal: lcnc is new to me as far as activily using it
11:04 AM _unreal: so...
11:04 AM _unreal: ?
11:06 AM _unreal: I can not re-produce he CAM file. because I dont know where the cad drawsing where originally OR they are very involved setups and I dont have the cam design files any more
11:28 AM W1N9Zr0: just put F10 or whatever feed rate you want somewhere before all the G1 commands in the file
11:34 AM Tom_L: _unreal, add a F word to the file
11:34 AM Tom_L: G1 x2 F40
11:36 AM _unreal: I did but it wants one for EVERY line
11:36 AM _unreal: and I dont need to mess up the files
11:37 AM _unreal: meaning manually setting feeds that are not right for what the file does
11:37 AM _unreal: blind editing
11:37 AM _unreal: ok wrking work ares currently are x455mm y785mm
11:38 AM _unreal: just finished doing limit tests
11:38 AM _unreal: so i could adjust my soft limits
11:38 AM _unreal: not bad
11:39 AM _unreal: which is like 30.9" by 17.9"
11:39 AM _unreal: I thought it was going to be 18-19"
11:39 AM _unreal: on x
11:40 AM _unreal: but getting a little more on y was a nice suprise
11:41 AM _unreal: one of the next things I'll need to do is change the working face of LCNC the default gui is so limited and ugly
11:41 AM Tom_L: must not be using linuxcnc
11:41 AM _unreal: ?
11:41 AM JT-Cave: lol
11:41 AM Tom_L: it doesn't require a F word on every line
11:43 AM Tom_L: some lesser controls require every word on every line even if they don't change
11:43 AM Tom_L: x y z F etc
11:52 AM _unreal: hum
11:53 AM _unreal: so back to my other question what do I look for in order to find different GUI's for the LCNC interface control
11:54 AM _unreal: and there it is. just lost position
11:54 AM _unreal: doing run speed tests
11:55 AM _unreal: not sure which axis but one of them just lost position
11:56 AM _unreal: so far x lost position
11:56 AM _unreal: checkingy
11:56 AM roycroft: my wifi card is out for delivery today
11:56 AM _unreal: looks like x was the poopatrator
11:56 AM roycroft: i'm going to try to get the touch screen issues resolved before it arrives
11:57 AM roycroft: then, once it gets here, it should only take a few minutes to get it configured, and the linuxcnc machine will be ready to go
11:57 AM _unreal: the famous out for delivery, do to day expect monday ;)
11:57 AM roycroft: it's allegedly on the truck
11:57 AM roycroft: the only question is: will it be here by 4:45?
11:58 AM _unreal: so this is interesting, Y has more LOAD on it then x does by a lot but X lost position
11:58 AM roycroft: because if the truck is not here by then it will have to go back to the post office
11:58 AM roycroft: and i won't get any mail today
11:58 AM roycroft: because of the asshole soon-to-be former postmaster general
11:59 AM roycroft: i usually get my mail earlier in the day on saturday, though - the route must be a little differnt on saturdays
11:59 AM roycroft: so i expect it will arrive
12:00 PM roycroft: and hopefully i'll start getting my mail every day again come late january
01:08 PM _unreal: roycroft, any joy?
01:10 PM _unreal: well at this point I hate to do it but I'm going to switch the machine back to 1/2 stepping
01:11 PM _unreal: and do the same test. I dont understand or like that the motor is stalling
01:11 PM _unreal: I get the feeling it is a case of to many steps. and the motor controllers just cant handle the freq?
01:34 PM _unreal: X lost steps again
01:34 PM _unreal: Y didnt
01:34 PM _unreal: I wonder if the x motor controller is fucked up
01:35 PM _unreal: working
01:35 PM _unreal: but I hit a magic speed and it seems to skit steps
01:36 PM renesis: maybe a resonance issue
01:36 PM _unreal: I just did a g0x0
01:36 PM _unreal: Y went to zero x was like 6mm shy
01:36 PM renesis: hold onto the axis and push against the motor direction and see if it still does it
01:37 PM _unreal: my axis have upto 2k lbs force
01:37 PM _unreal: hehe
01:37 PM _unreal: its speed related
01:37 PM renesis: if it stops doing it, maybe resonance, if it does it more, maybe an underpower issue
01:37 PM _unreal: could be an under power but that would not make sense because its ONLY the x axis and the x has a fraction of the resistance load that Y has
01:38 PM _unreal: Y is pushing two lead screws and the entire x fame
01:38 PM renesis: youre just assuming mass, it might be a friction issue
01:38 PM _unreal: its NOT friction
01:38 PM _unreal: if I take the belt off I can spin the lead screw freely
01:39 PM renesis: the whole way?
01:39 PM _unreal: yes
01:39 PM _unreal: end to end
01:39 PM roycroft: did you do a proper feng shui analysis before locating your machine?
01:39 PM renesis: shrug, resonance or just going to fast
01:39 PM _unreal: its the motor controller
01:39 PM renesis: roycroft has a point
01:39 PM renesis: you may have fucked up your zen
01:39 PM _unreal: for shits and giggles going to swap the cables x y
01:39 PM _unreal: if Y fails then its the motor controller
01:40 PM renesis: if x fails it could still be the motor controller?
01:40 PM renesis: same controller, no?
01:40 PM renesis: and im guessing you mean motor driver?
01:40 PM _unreal: yes
01:41 PM _unreal: ok switched
01:41 PM _unreal: just switching cables and switched step/dir inputs
01:41 PM _unreal: and running
01:42 PM roycroft: i posted a link for you last night, _unreal, to some gecko drives that were nicely discounted with a full warranty
01:42 PM roycroft: you might check the logs from last night
01:42 PM renesis: nice
01:42 PM _unreal: FUCK and there it is Y just skipped
01:42 PM _unreal: its the motor controller
01:42 PM roycroft: they're 201x, and they're $87 each
01:43 PM _unreal: I have zero money to my name right now
01:43 PM roycroft: use someone else's name :)
01:43 PM roycroft: but not mine, please
01:44 PM _unreal: to much out going $ :(
01:44 PM _unreal: till I get past this FUCKING BULLSHIT court shit thanks to my POS xwife I got nothing $$
01:46 PM * roycroft wonders why 90% cotton sweatshirts are $15-$25, but 100% cotton sweatshirts are $75+
01:49 PM _unreal: already upto $5k in lawyer bills
01:51 PM _unreal: in the long run I'll end up buying good motor controllers but as Isaid till I have funds... I'm dirt train broke
01:52 PM _unreal: god I have like $5k worth in marine stuff I could sell if people would JUST fucking buy....
01:52 PM _unreal: I have not been able to sell anything since march
01:52 PM _unreal: its just stupifying
01:52 PM roycroft: hopefully that will all end eventually
01:52 PM roycroft: and you'll be able to move on with your life
01:52 PM _unreal: normally when I get marine hardware and stuff from work. its hard to keep it on hand
01:54 PM _unreal: CDC was forced to publish more info this past week with more 1000% discrediting the "" world ending "" covid
01:54 PM Tom_L: _unreal, change the step timing
01:54 PM Tom_L: maybe the pulse is too short
01:54 PM _unreal: could be
01:54 PM _unreal: but
01:54 PM _unreal: same motor controllers
01:54 PM _unreal: and i just tried switching the wires to the mtor controllers and the same controller failed
01:55 PM _unreal: fails if I go over a certain step rate
01:55 PM _unreal: they are just shit china controllers
01:55 PM _unreal: work amazing IF you are with in there working margins and never exceed there limits
01:56 PM _unreal: so chances are I "" damaged "" this other controller as well but its still functioning
01:57 PM _unreal: I know my motors can push my machine to 4000mm/min but the controllers are not able to handle much for step rate for long before failing
01:59 PM Tom_L: maybe santa will bring you some geckos
01:59 PM _unreal: if it runs a cycle that has LOTS of rapids and direction changes it runs for X amount of time and fails that one axis around the same time
01:59 PM _unreal: so it has to be over heating
01:59 PM _unreal: and I'm guessing its over heating the sense resistors
01:59 PM _unreal: because the controller bodies are not getting worm in anyway at all
02:00 PM _unreal: so how do I go about changing the GUI interface in LCNC?
02:01 PM _unreal: and any suggestions on a really good custom GUI?
02:01 PM Tom_L: qtpyvcp
02:02 PM Tom_L: https://www.rainydayprojects.ch/linuxcnc/qtpyvcp-linuxcnc-gui
02:02 PM Tom_L: there's one
02:03 PM _unreal: how do I load it?
02:04 PM Tom_L: i haven't messed with any qtpyvcp in a long time, you'd better ask them
02:05 PM _unreal: OMG... the harmonics on this machine running half stepping
02:05 PM _unreal: TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP ZZZZZTAP ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ TAP TAP TAP
02:05 PM Tom_L: they're on matrix iirc
02:05 PM Tom_L: hazzy?
02:06 PM _unreal: ?
02:06 PM _unreal: MATRIX?
02:06 PM Tom_L: a chat platform
02:06 PM Tom_L: used to be linked to irc but i'm not sure it is anymore
02:08 PM _unreal: I know nothing about it
02:08 PM Tom_L: better stick with what you've got and get it working first then
02:10 PM _unreal: and there goes the lighting allarms
02:10 PM _unreal: alarms
02:10 PM _unreal: lightening
02:13 PM roycroft: save your pennies for those gecko drives, _unreal :)
02:13 PM roycroft: they will do microstepping
02:13 PM roycroft: they'll run smooth as a baby's bum for you
02:16 PM _unreal: working on installing that https://www.rainydayprojects.ch/linuxcnc/qtpyvcp-linuxcnc-gui
02:27 PM _unreal: installing that qtpyvcp and I can hear the lag in the machines step rates....
02:41 PM _unreal: ok I started up the qtpyvcp but the display is way zoomed in?
02:41 PM * JT-Shop needs to plane more material to finish learning how a lock miter joint is made...
02:42 PM * JT-Shop noticed that is just probe basic which has an official installer at QtPyVCP
02:44 PM _unreal: hum
02:44 PM _unreal: looks like vcp is going to be a learning experience
02:45 PM _unreal: it does not list in pnconfig
02:49 PM * JT-Shop2 is ROTFLMAO
02:53 PM _unreal_: god...
02:54 PM _unreal_: had to shut down and stop fucking with the CNC
02:54 PM _unreal_: my father came out and put on the tv and as per the norm. has no hearing issues but puts on CNN and turns it up to the point of OVER DRIVING the speakers with election BS
02:54 PM _unreal_: god all I want to do is leave this fucking house
03:03 PM _unreal_: till I get a different GUI working...
03:03 PM _unreal_: I'm really favoring planetcnc
03:03 PM _unreal_: control software
03:12 PM gloops: heresy
03:16 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, :)
03:25 PM jymmmm: DIY LRAD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7UZHEHhdek
03:58 PM jymmmm: BEautiful table... https://youtu.be/3KQyswhIV7U?t=758
04:06 PM JT-Shop: it's always funny to watch the deer run out of the woods toward the feeder when it goes off
04:07 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, or JT-Shop what signal do you have your spindle brake signal tied to?
04:08 PM Tom_L: this thing needs to brake before changing direction
04:09 PM Tom_L: i was thinking of a oneshot fairly long pulse
04:10 PM JT-Shop: dunno let me look
04:11 PM Tom_L: it should fire when changing either direction
04:12 PM Tom_L: everything is working but the scale and brake
04:13 PM JT-Shop: https://dpaste.com/8N5JRE576
04:14 PM Tom_L: on the sherline i had an inhibit signal tied to motion.spindle-forward -reverse and -brake to a lut5 3 input or
04:14 PM Tom_L: but it didn't have reverse. i was 'faking' it
04:15 PM Tom_L: with relays
04:16 PM Tom_L: is the brake signal activated after any direction change?
04:18 PM Tom_L: this one doesn't have a brake sensor. not that fancy
04:20 PM JT-Shop: just watch the motion pin and see what LinuxCNC does
04:20 PM Tom_L: yeah, i'm looking over what i did on the sherline too
04:21 PM Tom_L: it's driver had an 'inhibit' line that would start the spindle on cycle over which included a ramp up time
04:21 PM Tom_L: you could adjust that time with a pot
04:23 PM Tom_L: it was kindof a kludge but it worked pretty well on the sherline motor
04:31 PM seb_kuzm1nsky is now known as seb_kuzminsky
05:43 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest23590
07:37 PM _unreal_: well thats freaking weird https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJZ7YVHRwAM
07:43 PM unterhaus_: someone on amazon selling a sparkfun design for more than twice as much as sparkfun
07:44 PM _unreal_: wish I had a 3d printer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HvFPYaVtQs
07:46 PM XXCoder: jezz. well thats very much of buyer beware thing
09:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Spindle/Drag_Chain1.jpg
09:01 PM Tom_L: finally got some drag chain on Z
09:02 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Spindle/Control_Pannel1.jpg
09:02 PM Tom_L: and mounted everything
09:04 PM XXCoder: awesome system
09:05 PM XXCoder: i remember when it was steel and dreams
09:05 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Steel3.jpg
09:05 PM XXCoder: yeah
09:06 PM Tom_L: i still gotta tune the spindle speed and hook up the brake
09:06 PM Tom_L: that's mostly software
09:07 PM roycroft: my wifi card finally arrived
09:07 PM XXCoder: nice on both
09:07 PM roycroft: it turns out that the firmware is incmpatible with debian
09:07 PM XXCoder: less nice
09:07 PM roycroft: and i have to sort out how to install new firmware
09:07 PM Tom_L: firmware for what?
09:07 PM Tom_L: touchscreen?
09:07 PM roycroft: yeah, initial searches on it turn up a lot of wrath towards the person who maintains it
09:07 PM roycroft: wifi card
09:07 PM Tom_L: oh
09:08 PM roycroft: apparently the maintainer does not like distributing it with the os distro
09:08 PM roycroft: and forces people to download and install it separately
09:08 PM roycroft: for no good reason whatsoever
09:08 PM roycroft: so i get to figure out how to do that now
09:18 PM Tom_L: is it a deb package?
09:18 PM Tom_L: dpkg -i mynewwifidriver.deb
09:21 PM roycroft: it's a .bin file that i have to download from a github server
09:21 PM roycroft: it's the firmare that i have to update, not the device driver
09:22 PM roycroft: it looks like i have to download it and then use a utility to scribble it to the wifi card
09:23 PM Tom_L: ahh
09:23 PM roycroft: [ 11.767882] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-7260-17.ucode (-2)

09:24 PM roycroft: and i don't have git on the linuxcnc machine
09:24 PM roycroft: i'm not sure i'll ever need it other than for this
09:24 PM Tom_L: want me to grab it?
09:24 PM roycroft: no, thanks - i'll grab it on my laptop and scp it over to the machine
09:32 PM unterhaus_: dont they have a zip file option?
09:33 PM roycroft: aah, that was pretty easy
09:34 PM roycroft: i just grabbed it, stuck it in /lib/firmware, rebooted the machine, and it foudn it and installed it
09:34 PM unterhaus_: that's nice
09:34 PM roycroft: yeah, i was expecting it to be a hassle
09:34 PM roycroft: i should probably head out to the shop for a bit
09:34 PM roycroft: the wifi interface is on the same network as the wired netowrk
09:35 PM roycroft: it would be tricky to configure it while the wired network is up
09:35 PM roycroft: because it will use the same ip address
09:39 PM roycroft: [ 12.516919] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: loaded firmware version 17.3216344376.0 op_mode iwlmvm

09:39 PM roycroft: very nice
10:07 PM CaptHindsight: female cardinal flew into the shop today and didn't want to fly back out, still up in the beams, might have passed on since it has not moved in a few hours, never a dull moment
10:07 PM XXCoder: similiar happened at shop i worked at couple years ago
10:07 PM XXCoder: unfortunately no way to get bird out at all
10:08 PM CaptHindsight: our drive in door is 10 x 12ft
10:08 PM XXCoder: bird didnt have a way to have idea of going down to go out into sky
10:09 PM CaptHindsight: same here, it would not fly less that 6 ft from the 24ft ceiling
10:09 PM XXCoder: shop is big enough and door tops out 4 feet under ceiling. bird couldnt think of landing on floorand looking for exit
10:09 PM CaptHindsight: with the door up it would just fly and land on top of the door, not under
10:10 PM CaptHindsight: I did manage to throw a tennis ball right next to it and jam it into a 2" gap between the beam and roof
10:10 PM XXCoder: should have "bird door"
10:11 PM XXCoder: which is wide short height door that can flip out to let bird out
10:11 PM CaptHindsight: probably could not do that again in years of trying
10:11 PM XXCoder: nice for getting rid of high heat too
10:12 PM CaptHindsight: we have an exhaust fan, but it has a screen under it
10:14 PM CaptHindsight: even tried a red flag on 10 ft rod to spook it, might have given it a heart attack
10:15 PM CaptHindsight: have seen birds inside the Walmart and grocery stores around here, not sure if they get them out or just gather up the remains after a few days
10:16 PM Tom_L: or direct them to the bird seed isle
10:16 PM XXCoder: unfortnately bird was shot in shop
10:16 PM XXCoder: it was after 2 days
10:20 PM Tom_L: ok i forget what element is needed for spindle synchronous motion
10:20 PM Tom_L: in the hal file
10:24 PM Tom_L: ahh maybe that's it
10:24 PM Tom_L: i'll try it tomorrow
10:24 PM Tom_L: motion.spindle-revs
10:49 PM Tom_L: ok got that working again
10:53 PM XXCoder: awesome
