01:19 AM Deejay: moin
03:07 AM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
05:08 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:09 AM XXCoder: yo
05:52 AM Tom_L: morning
05:52 AM XXCoder: yo
05:59 AM JT-Cave: we will get the first frost of the year Sunday night
06:02 AM Tom_L: 35F hi 68
06:05 AM JT-Cave: 37°F - 56°F
06:21 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17967&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- THAT will be fun to mount and unmount... Screws on the bottom are from the inside. mount, fold back, screw tight... and the next one to dismantle it will break the fold. (1.5mm thick alu sheet)
07:48 AM rs[m]: tamper proofing?
08:18 AM Loetmichel: Tempest proofing
08:18 AM Loetmichel: aka EMI reduction
08:43 AM veegee: Hmm the hydraulic pump spec shows "primary flow" as 2-3 gpm and "secondary flow" as 18-19 gpm
08:43 AM veegee: what's primary and secondary flow?
08:43 AM veegee: it's just a gear pump
08:44 AM Loetmichel: aaand milling file done, now to mill that sh**: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17970&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
08:46 AM veegee: OH I think it's a "tandem" pump, one for the main hydraulics and the other for the power steering
09:17 AM gregcnc: veegee did you power that vfd from the battery yet?
09:18 AM veegee: going to do it this weekend
09:20 AM flyback: it's a real shame you can't put new bearings in a stepper
09:20 AM flyback: so lame
09:20 AM gregcnc: what's stopping you?
09:20 AM flyback: I have these beutiful minbea astrosyns from 1990's dot matrix printers and some copy machine ones
09:20 AM flyback: it *CANUCKS* the perm magnets reduces the strenght 50%
09:20 AM * flyback rubs veegee on the stepper
09:20 AM flyback: *CANUCKED*
09:21 AM unterhaus_: you need a keeper for the magnets
09:21 AM gregcnc: make keeper
09:21 AM flyback: wait so there is a way to do it?
09:21 AM flyback: I might just donate these things to someone locally who wants them then I don't think I am going to have time to do my own cnc
09:22 AM flyback: but figured they were worthless due to being 30 yrs old, sucking toner, probably dry bearings and got wet
09:22 AM flyback: just the bottom, but it got the bearing
09:24 AM gregcnc: unless you really have some need to use the old ones aren't even the cheapest a frames size smaller goign to be just as good today?
09:24 AM flyback: oh ok so they are worthless
09:25 AM flyback: i HAVE a few near servo's though
09:25 AM flyback: including this apparatus that has 8 shafts on it
09:25 AM flyback: a bldc turns belts attached to all of them
09:25 AM flyback: each one except the motor shaft itself has a magnetic clutch
09:25 AM flyback: came from a copy achine
09:26 AM flyback: mabye I will just use the steppers for wind turbines then
09:26 AM flyback: if they don't have much value for someone to use in a cnc
09:39 AM unterhaus_: I wouldn't think that a bearing would go bad in 30 years, at least that's my theory
09:40 AM unterhaus_: One of my research projects was to try to get a bearing to go bad and it's impossible without side loads outside the spec
09:40 AM unterhaus_: The motor that's in the stand right now has holes drilled in one of the races and it still won't fail
10:17 AM unterhaus_: it takes over 10v to enable my drives, I guess I'm going to have to add a relay
10:20 AM skunkworks: old school...
10:22 AM unterhaus_: it's isolated, which explains some of it
11:02 AM unterhaus_: I need a much smaller version of this to move my milling machine https://www.cnn.com/style/article/shanghai-relocate-building-preservation-intl-hnk-scli/index.html
11:03 AM gregcnc: concrete mill?
11:04 AM unterhaus_: weighs 5500 pounds
11:05 AM unterhaus_: getting it moving isn't too hard, but getting it stopped can be
11:06 AM gregcnc: oh i thought it would be something massive
11:06 AM unterhaus_: I use the 2 roller method, which has a limited travel
11:06 AM unterhaus_: it's big enough to be a pain to move by myself
11:06 AM gregcnc: how often do you move it?
11:07 AM unterhaus_: I have moved it twice, but I moved a wall so I could move it and now I need to move it again
11:10 AM unterhaus_: I wonder if I have any SSR that will reliably fire at ttl on voltage
11:30 AM Centurion-Dan2 is now known as Centurion_Dan
11:57 AM unterhaus_: I have some holders for this style relay CN024D05
11:57 AM unterhaus_: $20 apiece seems to be too rich though
12:01 PM unterhaus_: ixys has some for $6, seems a lot more reasonable
12:02 PM unterhaus_: the phoenix ssr I have say 24v input but they just show an led, so maybe they will fire at ttl
12:06 PM jymmmm: toss on a variable PS and check?
12:08 PM unterhaus_: I suppose I should have one of those
12:08 PM roycroft: an ssd will usually not show voltage across the load side unless there's an actual load
12:09 PM unterhaus_: yeah
12:09 PM roycroft: so if you're just testing with a voltmeter you may not get accurate results
12:10 PM roycroft: that does not directly address your question, but i thought i'd mention it because i've seen folks get caught by that a lot
12:10 PM unterhaus_: it's worth mentioning
12:10 PM roycroft: if i were dishonest i probably could have a nice collection of free, discarded ssrs
12:14 PM jdh: I have a nice collection fo free, discarded ssrs. not sure where honesty comes in
12:18 PM roycroft: the honesty comes in when folks tell me they have a dead ssr becasue they don't measure any voltage across the load side and i tell them to put some load on it and test again
12:18 PM roycroft: then they work
12:19 PM roycroft: it's a common issue with folks building brewing control systems
12:20 PM roycroft: it's much more common to have burned up a heating element than to have a defective ssr, yet folks seem to always blame the ssr
12:21 PM roycroft: also, ssrs tend to fail closed, not open
12:21 PM roycroft: which is why i advocate installing a contactor in front of an ssr
01:04 PM unterhaus_: Back in the days when flatbed scanners were expensive, I bought one from Penn State Salvage that had the shipping lock still in it
01:04 PM unterhaus_: they even paid a repair place to find out it didn't work with the shipping lock in
01:05 PM unterhaus_: that's not what they said of course
01:07 PM unterhaus_: the other thing that snags people is industrial power supplies that have a sense line. Or a +/- connector that isn't referenced to ground
01:14 PM roycroft: is blendercam something that people actually use any more?
01:14 PM roycroft: the blendercam website has been a spam magnet for years
01:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:50 PM andypugh: So, watching a welding video, they are calculating some numbers, one of which is heat input. Measured in Joules per Inch.
01:50 PM andypugh: Oh my.
01:50 PM andypugh: https://youtu.be/9VpOIdhTBXA
01:55 PM gregcnc: anyone using rsync with openmediavault?
01:56 PM veegee: Imagine you have a 200L steel barrel, completely sealed, and you want to turn it into the bottom part for a dust cyclone for a dust collector
01:56 PM veegee: what's the best way to cut it so you can turn the top part into a lid?
01:57 PM veegee: like I can just cut around the circumference near the top, but I want to be able to seal it to hold a vacuum
01:57 PM veegee: Easy way would be to flare the mating parts, but it's a large diameter standard steel barrel, so not sure how to go about flaring it
01:57 PM veegee: I don't mind making some kind of gasket for it, just looking for ideas
01:59 PM andypugh: I think I would try to keep the top rim, for stiffness, and drip the original lid in with a newly-made flange.
01:59 PM gregcnc: start with an open drum?
01:59 PM andypugh: Hmm. or a dry-goods drum with a Marman flange
02:00 PM veegee: I only have these barrels
02:00 PM veegee: I got a bunch of them for $10
02:00 PM veegee: I'm using a few as hazardous waste disposal drums and the good non dented ones for stuff like this
02:01 PM veegee: they're all sealed except for a hole to pour liquid out of
02:01 PM veegee: but I want them to work like a bucket with a lid
02:01 PM veegee: so need to cut the top off somehow and make a flange\
02:02 PM veegee: gravity alone would be enough to seal it, along with a silicone gasket compound, because it will always have a vacuum pressure inside
02:03 PM gregcnc: they make cyclones that just sit on top of open drums
02:03 PM veegee: True, but I already have 3 cyclones and you need to attach them to a lid
02:03 PM andypugh: That’s a point. A couple of plywood discs, one bigger and one smaller than the ID of the top flange.
02:03 PM veegee: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61Ai2mtcYKL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
02:03 PM veegee: It looks like that, so you need to bolt the bottom to the appropriate lid
02:04 PM veegee: If I had a lathe that had a swing large enough for the diameter of a 200L barrel, this would be super easy
02:04 PM gregcnc: I would then do as Andy says
02:04 PM andypugh: As you got “a bunch” for $10, why not cut out the centre of the top of one, and cut off the top of another, and join them with a barrel clip?
02:05 PM veegee: I like the plywood idea
02:05 PM veegee: I just realized I can cut it by hand with the band saw
02:06 PM andypugh: Or you could recognise your sunk-cost fallacy and buy a more suitable barrel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plastic-Storage-Approved-Shipping-Cooking/dp/B07JGVSWND
02:06 PM andypugh: (But that was mainly to show what I mean by a barrel clip)
02:07 PM veegee: 21 quid
02:07 PM veegee: that's like $40!
02:07 PM veegee: but yeah that is a nice barrel
02:07 PM veegee: I guess I'll do that
02:08 PM andypugh: $40 isn’t a lot to me today. Today I am pending £25,000 to buy the rest of my house off of the mortgage co.
02:08 PM veegee: Right now it's attached to a shitty small plastic bucket from home depot that's not very sturdy
02:08 PM andypugh: On a normal day, I might think twice.
02:08 PM FinboySlick: veegee: At the rate plywood is going up, 40$ is going to end up even cheaper, especially given the loss of cutting circles.
02:08 PM veegee: the prices on plywood are going up that much?
02:09 PM veegee: why? what happened?
02:09 PM FinboySlick: Around here, all wood products (lumber especially) more than doubled.
02:09 PM FinboySlick: COVID :P
02:09 PM veegee: didn't know trees could catch it
02:09 PM gregcnc: lumber doubled since spring, sheathing triple
02:10 PM veegee: odd, haven't seen that here in Toronto
02:10 PM veegee: prices have stayed the same since last year
02:10 PM andypugh: Canadia is made almost competely of trees isn’t it?
02:10 PM FinboySlick: Maybe they were already double in Toronto ;)
02:10 PM veegee: also our neighbour gives us discounted lumber at 30% of the cost of the hardware store
02:11 PM veegee: they move a lot of it
02:11 PM FinboySlick: andypugh: Yes, but also populated by very polite suckers who are known to overpay.
02:12 PM veegee: Lol I don't see the same prices as you on the Canadian site: https://www.amazon.ca/Eagle-1656MBBG-Straight-Sided-Metal-Plastic/dp/B010DBE58S
02:14 PM FinboySlick: andypugh: Back when Canadian dollar hit close to parity with USD, a journalist asked a mitsubishi exec why their car prices stayed the same and didn't match the US. To paraphrase his answer: Canadians are used to paying more.
02:15 PM veegee: Yeah, no
02:15 PM veegee: If it's something like a car, I'd go as far as to go to the USA if it were more economical
02:15 PM veegee: as I have done in the past
02:16 PM veegee: Mitsubishi is pretty dead in Canada, I guess that idiotic mentality is part of the reason
02:17 PM FinboySlick: Well, yeah. But then some Canadians put a V8 in a RX7 so I'm not sure good judgment is a safeguard against overpay.
02:18 PM FinboySlick: Just noticed it's halloween tonight.
02:18 PM FinboySlick: ... um, right?
02:18 PM gregcnc: tmr?
02:19 PM FinboySlick: Duh.
02:19 PM gregcnc: and full moon, so 2020 is delivering
02:20 PM FinboySlick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upL9tFMgv9o At least it's not a Friday the 13th.
02:21 PM Loetmichel: FinboySlick: how did they FIT that in there?
02:22 PM FinboySlick: I think they did a pretty fantastic job on the lyrics, especially if you're familiar with the lore.
02:22 PM Loetmichel: I assume you were talking about a 5.7L engine or similar size?
02:22 PM Loetmichel: i meant the engine in the rx7
02:23 PM FinboySlick: Loetmichel: Not sure.
02:23 PM gregcnc: LS swap everything
02:24 PM roycroft: it's not only a full moon tomorrow, it's a blue moon
02:24 PM roycroft: a blue harvest moon
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: veegee: no open head drums available for $10ea?
02:26 PM FinboySlick: Loetmichel: You can ask zeeshan :)
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: https://bascousa.com/55-gal-open-head-steel-drum.html
02:53 PM * t4nk_freenode gives CaptHindsight a friendly tap to the back of the head with his glue gun
02:53 PM t4nk_freenode: look mannnn
02:53 PM t4nk_freenode: glue gun or not... I've made some fine switches!
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: uh huh
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: t4nk_freenode: I must have missed the backstory on this
03:01 PM t4nk_freenode: I spent my last waking hour last nit..... argh, damned keyboard stopped working again
03:01 PM t4nk_freenode: *sigh*
03:02 PM t4nk_freenode: ok, so I'm assuming the glue gun part doesn't need clarification
03:02 PM t4nk_freenode: mweh.. nothing man, I just came across these switch panels on thingiverse
03:03 PM t4nk_freenode: something about them was awesome, but I didn't trust them to be reliable
03:03 PM t4nk_freenode: so I made some changes, and I spent the last hour before bed... flipping them :)
03:03 PM t4nk_freenode: and being mesmerized
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/03llBA5-yuU?t=59
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: Hot Glue Gun HMA 3D Printer Extruder
03:09 PM t4nk_freenode: lol
03:19 PM CaptHindsight: back to 60's F next week (20's C)
03:19 PM CaptHindsight: last gasp of fall before winter sets in
03:26 PM t4nk_freenode: heh, I was wondering about heating up the house myself last night
03:26 PM t4nk_freenode: getting colder
03:28 PM t4nk_freenode: though I got it v hot when I was hacksawing around a bit back
03:31 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/vxpialZ are the z-axis hand cranks suppose to snap off like this?
03:40 PM gregcnc: what is that
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: surface grinder
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: see where the casting cracked
03:41 PM gregcnc: oh yeah, i just couldn't figure out what kind of machine it was
03:43 PM CaptHindsight: new assholes moving in next door, toddler was left to scream in the hallway since there is an echo
03:43 PM CaptHindsight: why are people so shitty out here?
03:43 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: you have duct tape don't you?
03:43 PM gregcnc: seems appropriate https://imgur.com/gallery/R8qaj2f
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: nice
03:44 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: the kid or the parents, your choice
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: I might do that with an RC car
03:47 PM jymmmm: if you duct tape the kid to the rc car, he might like that, Then you can play "keep away" with the parents, the kid will be laughing
03:48 PM jymmmm: ..though, the parents might be screaming then -shrug-
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: that might cross some legal line
03:49 PM jymmmm: How so, you are just entertaining the kid so he isn't screaming and abandonded in the hall anymore.
03:49 PM jymmmm: just being "neighborly"
03:49 PM gregcnc: rc spider chicken
03:57 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, set off a round of fire crackers in the hall
03:58 PM unterhaus_: how did the z axis hand crank break off? mag chuck not on? That's how i would do it
03:58 PM CaptHindsight: loud horn might do it as well
03:58 PM Tom_L: or alarm siren.. you wouldn't get in trouble for that
03:59 PM CaptHindsight: if the police were no so shitty here I'd call about screams of murder
04:00 PM CaptHindsight: kid must be 3-4 yo, scream sounds like a whistle
04:00 PM Tom_L: or just shoot him wiht a traqulizer dart
04:01 PM Tom_L: he might still be screaming but not near as long
04:01 PM CaptHindsight: seems appropriate for the parents as well
04:04 PM Tom_L: maybe they're gonna open a day care there :)
04:04 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: does anyone sell dry ice around here?
04:04 PM CaptHindsight: heh industrial day care
04:05 PM gregcnc: probably the icecream shops
04:05 PM Tom_L: polar ice co
04:05 PM Tom_L: harris ice cream
04:05 PM _unreal_: question
04:05 PM Tom_L: home city ice
04:06 PM Tom_L: in chicago
04:06 PM gregcnc: someone told me kaleidascoops years ago, dont' even know if they are around
04:06 PM CaptHindsight: well since the lockdown several of the business have left replaced by a basketball school, gym and similar
04:06 PM _unreal_: do you guys think the motor controller will maybe SPARK to life if I try putting r470 1/4 watt resistors in JUST for a power test? they are sense resistors I'M 98% sure
04:06 PM Tom_L: absolutely
04:07 PM _unreal_: the designed one's are SMD 1watt r470 resistors. I'm just thinking toss a set of 1/4 watts in and drop the output amp setting to lowest and try to do a power test
04:07 PM t4nk_freenode: sure
04:07 PM t4nk_freenode: go for it
04:07 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, are you saying that to me or someone else?
04:07 PM Tom_L: anyone that may need that answer
04:07 PM t4nk_freenode: lol
04:08 PM t4nk_freenode: we were all speaking to you, Berin
04:09 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: yup $2/lb
04:09 PM gregcnc: cool
04:09 PM Deejay: gn8
04:10 PM _unreal_: morning
04:10 PM t4nk_freenode: ciao
04:10 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, how far is battle creek from you
04:10 PM _unreal_: so I had both x/y moving last night
04:10 PM Tom_L: ?
04:10 PM _unreal_: with the only two controllers
04:10 PM _unreal_: that work
04:10 PM Tom_L: nice
04:11 PM _unreal_: no issues...
04:11 PM t4nk_freenode: okidoki then ;)
04:11 PM _unreal_: so at this point tonight after I help my daughter with the last of her costume. going to work on getting the mesa back into place
04:11 PM _unreal_: and wired up
04:12 PM _unreal_: sinse I now how to ish?? enable these stupid motor controllers now I'm just going to hard wire them on
04:12 PM _unreal_: now know
04:12 PM Tom_L: mine is supposed to be here sunday, then i gotta order pullies
04:12 PM t4nk_freenode: how now know brown cow
04:13 PM _unreal_: pullies?
04:13 PM Tom_L: for my spindle motor
04:13 PM _unreal_: ohhh ya...
04:13 PM _unreal_: I kind of broke a part on my x axis last night
04:14 PM _unreal_: stupid temp arduino setup makes it hard to cancle a move. it went to far and my end stop god ripped out
04:14 PM _unreal_: lucky it didnt get to far I just ripped the power cord out
04:14 PM _unreal_: or flipped the psu switch I forget
04:14 PM gregcnc: no e-stop yet?
04:14 PM t4nk_freenode: (it's: too)
04:15 PM Tom_L: gregcnc, we don't need no stinkin estop!
04:15 PM _unreal_: but I am blown away it broke 4 10-24 end stop screws
04:15 PM _unreal_: temp using arduino
04:15 PM _unreal_: so I'm going to have to re-think my hard end-stops
04:15 PM gregcnc: motor torque, reduction and screw pitch?
04:15 PM _unreal_: yaa
04:16 PM _unreal_: 4.3 ratio
04:16 PM _unreal_: err 4.8
04:16 PM _unreal_: 48 to 10
04:16 PM _unreal_: and 1/2-13 thread
04:16 PM _unreal_: and my drive nuts are HDPE
04:16 PM _unreal_: and 3" long
04:17 PM _unreal_: I have stacked bearings as well
04:17 PM _unreal_: at each end
04:17 PM gregcnc: torque?
04:17 PM _unreal_: I have not calculated the torque yet
04:17 PM gregcnc: stepper
04:17 PM _unreal_: 400 oz/in,
04:17 PM gregcnc: hoyl
04:17 PM _unreal_: ?
04:18 PM Tom_L: just 400?
04:18 PM Tom_L: :)
04:18 PM gregcnc: yeha that's only a ton of axis thrust
04:18 PM _unreal_: so thats 1920 oz/in after reduction
04:19 PM gregcnc: why so much?
04:19 PM _unreal_: then the threaded rod which I'm not sure off the top of my head how to calculate
04:19 PM _unreal_: its what I have on hand
04:19 PM _unreal_: i have a set of 4 of these steppers
04:19 PM gregcnc: literally 2200Lb of thrust
04:20 PM _unreal_: the Y is driving a serpentine belt driving twin lead screws
04:20 PM _unreal_: I want the power to be able to get the machine to its next location with little dwell time
04:21 PM _unreal_: right now I can do the full Y stroke of 30" in about 18 seconds
04:21 PM gregcnc: you probably don't need any reduction at all
04:21 PM _unreal_: heh
04:21 PM _unreal_: already tried that
04:21 PM _unreal_: and yes I do saddly
04:21 PM _unreal_: on Y at least
04:21 PM gregcnc: my lathe and mill only have 1/4 that much
04:21 PM Tom_L: i went 1:1 on X and Y and 3:1 on Z
04:22 PM _unreal_: I'm just keeping xyz all the same for gearing ratio
04:22 PM _unreal_: Z is goingto be lifting like 16 lbs or so
04:23 PM _unreal_: I'm torn between building up the STUPID over built thrust gearing I pulleed fromsomething else OR just stacking bearings
04:23 PM gregcnc: overkill regardless
04:23 PM gregcnc: but allthread isn't efficient
04:24 PM _unreal_: thats the other thing
04:24 PM _unreal_: allthread sucks its just cheap
04:24 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: ~2.5hr drive , maybe a bit more with traffic
04:24 PM _unreal_: I'm using 316 stainless 1/2" threaded rod
04:25 PM _unreal_: it wont ware hardly with the HDPE
04:25 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: google says 3.5hr drive
04:25 PM _unreal_: LOL
04:25 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, I could get to DISNEY world in less time
04:25 PM _unreal_: and I'm down in south florida
04:26 PM CaptHindsight: Florida is Disney World
04:26 PM FinboySlick: It is also cocaine country ;)
04:26 PM FinboySlick: Among many other things.
04:26 PM t4nk_freenode: I thought you canceled your subscription to DW btw..
04:27 PM CaptHindsight: mostly trailer parks and Hooters
04:27 PM t4nk_freenode: and linguists
04:31 PM _unreal_: I did
04:31 PM _unreal_: I cant afford it till I get past all of these MOTHER FUCKING BULLSHIT excess FAT $$ deductions on my income
04:32 PM _unreal_: at this point one of the first things I'm going to do IF/WHEN I recover and get a few good scores in my stocks is pay off my car finally with profits
04:32 PM _unreal_: only got $6k left
04:32 PM _unreal_: err 5k
04:34 PM t4nk_freenode: best to pull it out right now, or it'll be gone too I'm afraid
04:34 PM t4nk_freenode: save what you can
04:41 PM jymmmm: Ok, why wouldn't I want the 300A vesrion over the 100A (ignoring cost difference) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000467812070.html
04:42 PM jymmmm: and the 50A version resolution is 0.01A, the rest are 0.1A resolution
04:43 PM CaptHindsight: well you can't believe the specs
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: ±3% of 100 vs 300, 3x difference
04:45 PM CaptHindsight: also accuracy vs display resolution
04:45 PM CaptHindsight: display resolution can be 0.00000000000A
04:45 PM jymmmm: the only real difference I see and dont understand is the 100AH says "Voltage measurement range: Internal PS 10-90V, and the 200A and 300A say: External PS 0-500V
04:47 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: It's a $30 meter, not $300,0,0, I'm just trying to understand the difference between 100A and 300A versions
04:47 PM CaptHindsight: it's translated Chinese where honest specs does not compute
04:47 PM jymmmm: capth, yeah, ignoring that.
04:48 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/C1CRWo45BGS.pdf
04:49 PM CaptHindsight: https://getconnectedmedia.com/touring-huaqiangbei-the-electronics-markets-of-shenzhen/
04:49 PM CaptHindsight: slapped together from parts acquired from here
04:50 PM CaptHindsight: you no worry, you buy
04:50 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Ok, sacrasism and mockery aside... face value, why not 300A vs 100A verions?
04:51 PM veegee: Started with an Oster fast feed clipper a few years ago, just bought an Oster Classic 76 and all the blades
04:51 PM CaptHindsight: up to you, you don't know until you actually compare
04:51 PM veegee: can give myself a pretty nice fade
04:51 PM jymmmm: they both say same resolution
04:52 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Ok, could you speculate what could be different between them?
04:52 PM veegee: Classic 76 is a really nice clipper. 45W power, universal motor. I think I'll convert it to use batteries
04:52 PM CaptHindsight: cnc it!
04:52 PM veegee: It's not easy to give yourself a nice hair cut as it is
04:53 PM veegee: my father keeps insisting on making a hair cutting machine
04:53 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: the only thing I can think of is the reoslution
04:53 PM veegee: I can't even imagine where one would begin on such a thing..
04:53 PM CaptHindsight: ±3% of 100 vs 300, 3x difference
04:53 PM CaptHindsight: accuracy
04:53 PM CaptHindsight: not resolution
04:54 PM jymmmm: veegee: hand him this https://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-91033.html
04:54 PM CaptHindsight: different concepts
04:54 PM veegee: a NICE hair cut
04:54 PM CaptHindsight: hair is over rated
04:54 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: oh so 80A reading as 88A sorta thing?
04:54 PM veegee: I like to fade on the sides, but not short on the top
04:54 PM veegee: CaptHindsight says the one without much left :P
04:54 PM CaptHindsight: full head here
04:55 PM veegee: well I'm 29 and don't have a girlfriend. I can't give up now
04:55 PM CaptHindsight: i cut it about once a year
04:55 PM veegee: LOL I can't go without cutting it every 2 weeks
04:55 PM veegee: I HATE it if it touches my ears
04:55 PM CaptHindsight: when it gets past my shoulders then it's too annoying
04:56 PM veegee: I don't know, I can't imagine this
04:56 PM jymmmm: National Guard already out for the election, ouch
04:56 PM veegee: When I imagine CaptHindsight, this is the image I get in my head: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-portrait-of-a-surprised-middle-aged-man-with-beard-47654616.html
04:57 PM veegee: But now you want me to picture this? https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-man-with-long-hair-and-beard-wearing-tie-20722465.html
04:58 PM CaptHindsight: veegee: picture him with a 10" Mohawk
04:58 PM CaptHindsight: then add hair to the sides
04:59 PM veegee: impossible
04:59 PM veegee: how do you keep 10" sticking straight up?
04:59 PM CaptHindsight: it's actually this length now https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/esq-longhairartboard-2-copy-4-1585918508.png
05:00 PM veegee: ok that's more believable
05:00 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: going for the don king look
05:00 PM veegee: the classic postdoc with no job look
05:01 PM CaptHindsight: I haven't had short hair since the early 90's
05:01 PM CaptHindsight: why hair is so over rated
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: silly beards are in though
05:02 PM veegee: Not that it's over or underrated, it's just one aspect to a physical appearance
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: it's like the 70's only upside down
05:02 PM veegee: for me though it's a matter of comfort, so short enough such that it doesn't touch my ears or eyebrows or the back of my neck
05:03 PM FinboySlick: CaptHindsight is John Wick confirmed.
05:07 PM CaptHindsight: FinboySlick: is it winter there yet?
05:07 PM FinboySlick: We had snow twice, but it won't stick around.
05:07 PM _unreal_: ok working on removing the burned resistors and tossing in the TEMP test 1/4 watt resistors
05:07 PM FinboySlick: It's getting cold though.
05:08 PM _unreal_: see if these motor controller are still among the living or if they are totally DOA
05:08 PM _unreal_: I'm very annoyed that the ENABLE feature does not work at all on these motors
05:09 PM _unreal_: or I should say it seems to be working in reverse and if used AT ALL the motor starts making horid buzzing sounds till I power cycle
05:09 PM _unreal_: osigh
05:09 PM _unreal_: sigy
05:09 PM _unreal_: ARG. sigh
05:10 PM CaptHindsight: i figured hipsters would get creative with nasal, ear and back hair
05:50 PM _unreal_: ok
05:50 PM _unreal_: just finished putting all of the 1/4watt resistors on
05:51 PM _unreal_: I dont think I have any broken traces
05:51 PM _unreal_: time to go see if ti burns up or not
05:55 PM _unreal_: ok just plugged in power turned it on SNAP BOOM
05:55 PM _unreal_: not going to even bother with the other one
05:55 PM gregcnc: better get an extinguisher ready in case they go nuclear too late
05:55 PM _unreal_: they are DOA
05:55 PM _unreal_: I only tested one
05:55 PM _unreal_: I'm glad I didnt order the resistors
05:55 PM gregcnc: output probably shorted
05:55 PM _unreal_: interesting lv8727
05:55 PM _unreal_: is the controller they use
05:56 PM CaptHindsight: refill the smoke canister
05:56 PM _unreal_: https://www.ebay.com/i/174158586878?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=174158586878&targetid=935694487826&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9012053&poi=&campaignid=10460107182&mkgroupid=106723174507&rlsatarget=pla-935694487826&abcId=2146001&merchantid=113678557&gclid=CjwKCAjw8-78BRA0EiwAFUw8LB45qgbqJMUUM4fce6bq8sgoskAK657JIfOvNT823aH2M-Y69FJxlBoCdy8QAvD_BwE
05:56 PM _unreal_: I may buy that
05:56 PM _unreal_: its the same form factor more or less
05:56 PM _unreal_: and gives me what I need a 2X driver
05:57 PM _unreal_: hay Tom_L https://www.ebay.com/i/174158586878?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=174158586878&targetid=935694487826&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9012053&poi=&campaignid=10460107182&mkgroupid=106723174507&rlsatarget=pla-935694487826&abcId=2146001&merchantid=113678557&gclid=CjwKCAjw8-78BRA0EiwAFUw8LB45qgbqJMUUM4fce6bq8sgoskAK657JIfOvNT823aH2M-Y69FJxlBoCdy8QAvD_BwE
05:57 PM _unreal_: I hate to stick with theis controller "" ""
05:57 PM _unreal_: but
05:57 PM _unreal_: now that I know the SHIT I wish I had known
06:03 PM t4nk_freenode: lol hehhe
06:03 PM t4nk_freenode: another DOA
06:04 PM t4nk_freenode: well.. they all wind up dead after arrival for sure ;)
06:04 PM t4nk_freenode: poor guy :b
06:09 PM _unreal_: the DOA seems to be the RPM but I dont know what its a product of
06:12 PM t4nk_freenode: of your... .. your genius?
06:12 PM t4nk_freenode: :))
06:13 PM t4nk_freenode: and sth else..
06:13 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, .. yeah.. gotta poop! bbl!
06:17 PM JavaBean: dangnabbit, i am trying to stop!!! 3 times since i got home already!
06:22 PM _unreal_: I believe its the resistors not being able to handle the current
06:23 PM _unreal_: when it hit a frequiencey that is too high
06:23 PM _unreal_: JavaBean, ?
06:28 PM gregcnc: I think you're seeing regen voltage blowing the drive, but that would require measuring things......
06:35 PM _unreal_: regardless I think I may get that driver
06:35 PM _unreal_: its the right form factor
06:37 PM t4nk_freenode: and thinking outsmarts measuring
06:37 PM t4nk_freenode: every time!
06:37 PM t4nk_freenode: I think
06:37 PM JavaBean: i know its unreal, but its actually not that uncommon to be on the toilet 4-5 times a day for me.... t4nk on the other hand.... is tanked
06:37 PM t4nk_freenode: 4-5 times a day? no way
06:38 PM t4nk_freenode: not even if you include peeing
06:38 PM t4nk_freenode: mmm
06:38 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, maybe just
06:38 PM t4nk_freenode: ;)
06:39 PM t4nk_freenode: my grandma messed me up for life when she said 'doesn't take long after that first cup of coffee'
06:39 PM JavaBean: the days where its like i am vomiting from the other end are the worst... but i mustn't say that, my stomach is talking right now and may get ideas
06:41 PM unterhaus_: haha, lowe's diy attic stairs video shows an illegal installation
06:41 PM unterhaus_: not that mine is legal, but I'm not a big company either
06:42 PM JavaBean: might be legal in the jurisdiction lowe's is based in.... lots of stupid involved in topic
06:42 PM unterhaus_: how did he get in the attic
06:42 PM unterhaus_: most jurisdictions are really anti-ladder in garage
06:43 PM unterhaus_: garages are a very common source of house fires
06:43 PM unterhaus_: because it's stupid to store cars indoors
06:44 PM gregcnc: just wait until there are two charging in every garage
06:46 PM unterhaus_: he has an invisible friend in the attci
06:47 PM unterhaus_: yeah, charging in the garage is really stupid
06:47 PM unterhaus_: that's why I do it
06:47 PM gregcnc: welding next to the gas cans too?
06:48 PM unterhaus_: I do weld in there
06:48 PM gregcnc: saw a couple car YT channels with burned shops
06:48 PM JavaBean: best is when mechanics toss their cigs into gas cans that have been cut up... the looks on peoples faces if they realize what that can is for...
06:48 PM unterhaus_: don't have a cutting torch though, that's for reallly good fun
06:49 PM unterhaus_: there was a project car garage that went up in flames here recently
06:49 PM unterhaus_: I figure that's a good way to get rid of 10 project cars you'll never finish
06:49 PM unterhaus_: looked like it used to be a nice garage
06:50 PM unterhaus_: burned up some cars next to it too
06:50 PM unterhaus_: and also something exploded, probably the welding tanks
06:53 PM roycroft: why is it stupid to store a car indoors?
06:53 PM roycroft: if i had a big garage i'd store all my vehicles indoors
06:53 PM unterhaus_: they catch on fire and burn down your house
06:54 PM unterhaus_: but I like to store mine indoors too
06:54 PM roycroft: they usually don't catch on fire
06:54 PM roycroft: but if you're concerned about that store them in a detatched garage
06:54 PM roycroft: with a sprinkler system
06:54 PM unterhaus_: I worked with someone that lost 23 cars when his garage caught on fire.
06:55 PM roycroft: someone with 23 cars can afford a sprinkler system in the garage
06:55 PM unterhaus_: houses should have sprinkler systems
06:55 PM roycroft: i've had vehicles vandalised while on my property
06:55 PM roycroft: a couple years ago rats chewed through the brake lines in my van over the winter
06:55 PM roycroft: it cost me $500 to fix that
06:55 PM roycroft: if it had been stored in a garage that would not have happened
06:56 PM unterhaus_: we have had mice in the cars, but it mostly just involved cleaning up mouse poop
06:56 PM roycroft: every choice has tradeoffs
06:56 PM unterhaus_: ^this was not a serious statement
06:56 PM roycroft: in my view, the tradeoffs from storing a vehicle in a garage more than outweigh the tradeoffs of storing it outdoors
06:56 PM unterhaus_: I should have more fire extinguishers around though
06:57 PM roycroft: er reverse that
06:57 PM roycroft: you know what i meant :)
06:57 PM roycroft: i just got back from the dentists and am a bit numb
06:57 PM unterhaus_: I need to go to the dentist, my dentist ran away at the start of the pandemic
06:58 PM roycroft: i had a filling fall out in march
06:58 PM roycroft: i could not get it fixed until the end of august
06:58 PM unterhaus_: my appointment to place the crown on an implant was on the first day they stopped seeing patients
06:58 PM roycroft: and the fix did not work
06:58 PM roycroft: so i just got fitted for a crown
06:58 PM roycroft: the temporary crown came off on the way home, so i have to go back tomorrow to get it put back on
06:59 PM roycroft: and then again in december for the permanent one
06:59 PM unterhaus_: then they lost the crown for a while so I still don't have it
06:59 PM roycroft: my situation was similar
06:59 PM roycroft: my filling came out one night in march
06:59 PM roycroft: the next morning our governor closed all dental offices
06:59 PM unterhaus_: ugh, that's much worse than my situation
07:00 PM unterhaus_: I mean, it's weird having a post in my mouth, but no big deal
07:00 PM roycroft: yeah, that tooth was kind of sensitive for a few months
07:00 PM roycroft: clove oil actually does a really good job of numbing the pain
07:01 PM roycroft: but i spent close to six months with my mouth tasting like christmas all the time
07:02 PM unterhaus_: haha
07:02 PM unterhaus_: trying to decide if I should just cut a hole in my garage ceiling
07:02 PM unterhaus_: the movers put one in it before by falling through
07:03 PM unterhaus_: fortunately, not our movers
07:03 PM unterhaus_: the previous owner asked if we wanted them to fix the ceiling
07:03 PM unterhaus_: no, I like ventilation, thanks
07:04 PM roycroft: i'm trying to decide if qelectrotech is useful or not
07:04 PM roycroft: it mostly is, but the element editor is a pain in the butt to use
07:05 PM roycroft: to the point of potential diqualification of the entire package
07:05 PM roycroft: disqualification
07:07 PM roycroft: i suppose if diqualification were a word it would be apt
07:07 PM roycroft: the element editor would be disqualified and the rest of the package would be acceptable
07:08 PM roycroft: except without a good element editor the rest is pointless
07:11 PM unterhaus_: I got a really good start on my schematic last night using qelectrotech
07:11 PM roycroft: have you used the element editor?
07:11 PM unterhaus_: yeah, it's a little frustrating, but what new cad package isn't
07:11 PM unterhaus_: I had to start with the element editor
07:11 PM roycroft: it's more than frustrating
07:11 PM roycroft: it's extremely limited
07:12 PM Tom_L: is this a free one?
07:12 PM roycroft: yes
07:12 PM Tom_L: junk?
07:12 PM unterhaus_: are you doing something that isn't just boxes with labels and terminals?
07:12 PM roycroft: it actually appears to be a pretty decent package for the most part
07:12 PM roycroft: well i was trying to make a contactor
07:12 PM unterhaus_: where should I post my schematic?
07:12 PM roycroft: and drawing a coil
07:12 PM Tom_L: key words in that statement " for the most part "
07:12 PM unterhaus_: don't they have such things
07:12 PM roycroft: no
07:13 PM unterhaus_: they have relays
07:13 PM roycroft: their element library contactors don't have the coil
07:13 PM roycroft: just the switched contacts
07:13 PM Tom_L: must be electronics cad?
07:13 PM roycroft: i was like wtf?
07:13 PM unterhaus_: I swear I have seen coils
07:13 PM roycroft: it's a schematic drawing package
07:13 PM roycroft: yes
07:13 PM roycroft: there are coils
07:13 PM roycroft: but they are not part of a contactor
07:13 PM unterhaus_: somebody had to draw them.
07:14 PM roycroft: if you want a contactor you have to add a "contactor" and a coil
07:14 PM unterhaus_: can you open their elements in the element editor? YOu can cut and paste
07:14 PM roycroft: yes
07:14 PM roycroft: and that's what i'm trying to do
07:14 PM roycroft: but the drawing tools are very primative
07:15 PM roycroft: the real problem is that most of the forum posts/videos/good documentation is in french
07:15 PM roycroft: the "manual" that has been translated to english and other languages is pretty sparse
07:15 PM unterhaus_: the videos are silent
07:15 PM unterhaus_: which is a pain
07:15 PM roycroft: some are
07:15 PM roycroft: but even the silent ones show the french language version, for the most part
07:16 PM unterhaus_: all I want is a wiring diagram. The standard contactor in a schematic doesnt have a coil
07:16 PM roycroft: i found a few videos that are silent but use the dutch version
07:16 PM roycroft: and i could follow those pretty well, as i know dutch pretty well
07:16 PM roycroft: but i only studied french for a year, and have zero technical french vocabulary
07:17 PM unterhaus_: there are about 25 words in french
07:17 PM unterhaus_: ^slight exaggeration
07:18 PM roycroft: i'm assuming that i'm just missing something when it comes to using the element editor
07:18 PM roycroft: i've not given up yet
07:18 PM roycroft: i've only been using it since today, and only have had a little time to work with it
07:18 PM roycroft: but my first impression was not great
07:19 PM roycroft: the bundled element library, while extensive, is also quite lacking
07:19 PM roycroft: and the element editor just doesn't seem to do much
07:20 PM roycroft: also, i managed to create a new element that somewhat resembles what i needed, and saved it to my "user collection"
07:20 PM roycroft: i saved it several times while working on it
07:20 PM roycroft: but when i closed the element editor, my new element was nowhere to be found
07:20 PM roycroft: that may be a configuration thing that i did not get right
07:20 PM roycroft: but it's still frustrating
07:22 PM roycroft: the rest of the package has enough potential that i'm willing to spend a fair amount of time figuring out how to efficiently and effectively use the element editor
08:03 PM unterhaus_: my element didn't show up in the list until I closed and opened the program
08:03 PM unterhaus_: I think it's a cross-platform problem that happens a lot
08:04 PM roycroft: it would sure be nice if qet had some decent documentation
08:04 PM roycroft: this html stuff makes me want to tear my hair out
08:05 PM roycroft: i have to drill down 5-6 pages by clicking on links to get a paragraph or two of text
08:05 PM roycroft: i'll try closing and reopening
08:05 PM roycroft: but it still concerns me that i cannot find my local elements
08:06 PM roycroft: there's a documented home for them, and that home is empty
08:06 PM XXCoder: JT-Cave: https://youtu.be/RMlk5r-k8_o lol
08:06 PM roycroft: the project for which i created the element also does not have the element in its directory
08:06 PM roycroft: oregon had its highest new case count ever today
08:06 PM roycroft: yet we still dropped from 37th to 40th in the number of new cases
08:07 PM roycroft: no states with a greater population than oregon ranks lower than oregon today
08:07 PM unterhaus_: we are having a fairly strong outbreak here and people are coming into town for the football game they can't go to
08:08 PM roycroft: and 15 states with lower populations than oregon ranked higher today
08:08 PM unterhaus_: someone passed me on the shoulder
08:08 PM roycroft: here's another problem with elements
08:08 PM roycroft: it's easy to rotate them
08:08 PM roycroft: and necessary to do so on a regular basis
08:09 PM roycroft: but if an element is rotated its labels rotate with it
08:09 PM roycroft: so if i have to rotate an element 180 degrees in a diagram, its labels are all upside down
08:09 PM unterhaus_: that's pretty typical though
08:10 PM roycroft: there should at least be a toggle for label follows element or label retains its orientation
08:10 PM roycroft: well, my previous experience making schematics is using autocad
08:10 PM roycroft: and when i do that, i place the element before i add the labels
08:10 PM roycroft: i wouldn't even mind this so much if i knew an easy way to flip the labels upright after i rotate the element
08:11 PM roycroft: and even then, it would have to do so en masse
08:11 PM roycroft: for a contactor or resistor, it's no big deal
08:11 PM roycroft: but if i have a 7i76 that i want to turn upside down, if i have to reorient every label individually that would take forever
08:12 PM roycroft: and i'm not trashing the software
08:12 PM roycroft: just relaying my initial impressions of it
08:12 PM roycroft: and hoping to find easy ways to deal with the issues i have
08:13 PM unterhaus_: that curve drawing tool is not that great
08:15 PM roycroft: i'll muddle through the element editor documentation this evening, and try to get it to behave better
08:18 PM unterhaus_: I just want to have a schematic that I can follow, and it does that
08:18 PM unterhaus_: not particularly pretty, but it's not that hard to use if you can lower your standards a little
08:19 PM unterhaus_: do you want to make your machine work or get a job drafting
08:20 PM roycroft: i make schematic diagrams for many things, not just for this machine
08:20 PM roycroft: most of which have to be polished and professional
08:21 PM roycroft: all of which take entirely too long to draw with autocad
08:21 PM roycroft: so i'm looking at this software to help with this machine build and to add value to my skill set for my other work
09:52 PM roycroft: again, my french is really bad - almost non-existent, but on a french element editor video i see them adding a label, and an option box says "Ne pas subrir les rotations d'lélément parent"
09:54 PM roycroft: i cannot find that option box on my installed version, but i think that may be a toggle for the label text to stay in the position where it was originally drawn, or will rotate with the element
09:54 PM roycroft: i can align/rotate a lable in the same place
09:59 PM XXCoder: oh man. covid affects everything. because of covid myfordboy ran out of waste oil and had to adopt to kensose
10:41 PM veegee: How do these hydraulic flow dividers work? https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/16-gpm-divider-combiner-flow-control-valve/A-p8688921e
10:41 PM veegee: I know how the "rotary" ones work, but no idea how this one works
10:42 PM veegee: The fork positioners don't have any synchronization, which is silly and annoying, so I'm going to add two (or one?)
10:42 PM veegee: They're two double acting cylinders
10:43 PM veegee: So I guess the correct design is adding one for each set of ports
10:44 PM veegee: Also contemplating adding a pilot operated check valve to the main mast so it doesn't drop the load if a hose bursts and won't slowly leak and lower over time
