12:53 AM Deejay: moin
05:08 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:09 AM XXCoder: yo
05:54 AM Tom_L: morning
05:55 AM XXCoder: yo
05:56 AM XXCoder: JT-Cave: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/691307590931447891/762628478297833482/image0.jpg?width=445&height=593 lol
05:56 AM XXCoder: though I wonder about motor oil remains
06:02 AM JT-Cave: not sure what I'm looking at
06:02 AM XXCoder: its toolholder plastic container lol
06:02 AM JT-Cave: 37°F
06:02 AM JT-Cave: full of milk?
06:02 AM XXCoder: in least tats what I thought but its candle sale plastic coverings. odd. its same as tool holder plastic coverings for say cat30
06:03 AM XXCoder: yeah thats why its funny, reusing em.
06:05 AM Tom_L: 49F Hi 79
06:06 AM XXCoder: 54f will be 64f
06:06 AM JT-Cave: it might be the end for my tomatoes dunno
06:07 AM XXCoder: heh you did better than i did last try
06:07 AM XXCoder: its like tomotoes die if you look at it longer than couple seconds
06:07 AM XXCoder: though I guess light bug finding helped
06:13 AM JT-Cave: my tomato plants all grew 8'-10' tall for some reason
06:14 AM XXCoder: thats not bad. had plenty of tomotoes?
06:15 AM XXCoder: i forgetm is it annual or does it live though winter, though no fruit?
06:15 AM JT-Cave: for some reason tomatoes around here mid summer all cracked
06:15 AM XXCoder: weird
06:15 AM XXCoder: google says its due to excessive rain
06:15 AM JT-Cave: you can keep the indeterminate varieties alive all winter
06:16 AM JT-Cave: you have to keep them inside so they don't freeze
06:17 AM JT-Cave: you can cut the top off of a plant and put it in a glass of water and roots will form
06:17 AM JT-Cave: that only works on a main stem not a branch
06:17 AM XXCoder: too much water, too sudden cracks apparently
06:17 AM XXCoder: anyway interesting
06:20 AM XXCoder: i havent had any luck on job searching
06:20 AM XXCoder: it sucks
06:22 AM JT-Cave: yea that's a bummer, is the job market bad there?
06:23 AM XXCoder: only few machinist jobs a week
06:23 AM XXCoder: been applying for them
06:23 AM XXCoder: im worried, even after 5 years i might forget some of my skills if I dont work too long
10:45 AM jymmmm: morning
10:49 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: good luck
10:49 AM XXCoder: thanks
11:40 AM roycroft: today's insanity:
11:40 AM roycroft: i am changing my email address after almost 30 years
11:40 AM roycroft: it's a months-long process, as i have to update it in hundreds of places
11:41 AM roycroft: i needed to open a support case with cisco this morning, and noted that they are using my old address
11:41 AM roycroft: so after spending considerable time trying to find where to update it, i found that the mechnism requires me to log out of my cisco account
11:41 AM roycroft: only then is there a 'manage my account' option
11:42 AM roycroft: so i click on that, log back in, and got all sorts of warnings when i went to update my email address
11:42 AM roycroft: so i called cisco
11:42 AM roycroft: they said i can change the address, but that my address is confirmed by my company, and if i change it i will lose access to my account until my company confirms the new address
11:43 AM roycroft: but *i* am my company
11:43 AM roycroft: and they confirm my new address by sending an email to "my company"
11:43 AM roycroft: however, once i change my address the new address is invalid
11:44 AM roycroft: and they validate it until it's verified, but they won't send the verification email to my new address until it's verified
11:44 AM roycroft: and my old address will no longer be valid because i changed it to my new one
11:44 AM roycroft: they're trying to figure out how i can do this
11:51 AM CaptHindsight: why we can't have nice things
12:01 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: cause some people are dumbasses?
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: and they keep getting leadership/management roles
12:07 PM CaptHindsight: SNAFU and FUBAR
12:17 PM methods_: clear cut case of the egg before the egg and no chicken in existence
12:52 PM CaptHindsight: aluminum casting is easy, see https://imgur.com/gallery/eaDsngN
01:30 PM Rab: So you say, but I wouldn't want their job.
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: chuck taylor safety shoes
02:11 PM robotustra: roycroft, looks like you are in the loop
02:20 PM louipc: lol recycling cans
03:17 PM Deejay: gn8
06:24 PM _unreal_: 7i96 what would be an IDEAL pin for using an MOTOR enable? to enable stepper motor controllers?
06:24 PM _unreal_: https://www.ebay.com/p/21037462821?iid=254590201506&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=254590201506&targetid=935083617547&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9012012&poi=&campaignid=10877432047&mkgroupid=112821775411&rlsatarget=pla-935083617547&abcId=9300402&merchantid=108434799&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5eX7BRDQARIsAMhYLP_noUIBcyd6lq_HkvGms7-HOszirtILa-7OBzYrLYrFRE3HD1D6sVMaAhmiEALw_wcB
06:24 PM _unreal_: I have 4 of these motor controllers
06:25 PM _unreal_: I'm setting them up as active + dir+/step+
06:25 PM _unreal_: I'm just wondering what to connect enable to
06:26 PM Tom_L: the enable line of that pwm instance
06:26 PM _unreal_: I'm wondering WHAT pin on the 7i96
06:27 PM Tom_L: depends on the bit file loaded
06:27 PM Tom_L: do you have it hooked up?
06:27 PM _unreal_: not currently
06:27 PM _unreal_: but its default regardless
06:28 PM _unreal_: I gave up on the DIY motor controllers I have HAVE to get this machine moving and out of the house before NOV... WELL MORE so christmas
06:28 PM Tom_L: lemme see here
06:29 PM Tom_L: that's an ethernet board right?
06:29 PM _unreal_: I'm setting this machine up with XYZ : A
06:29 PM _unreal_: yes
06:29 PM _unreal_: I dont have any A hardware currently but I will likely get a rotory adapter when it makes me money
06:31 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure on that board
06:31 PM Tom_L: that's kindof an all in one board right?
06:32 PM Tom_L: you can assign a gpio to it probably
06:32 PM Tom_L: i'd run that by pcw
06:32 PM _unreal_: I'M SURE
06:32 PM Tom_L: i see step and dir on the silkscreen
06:32 PM _unreal_: i'm sure
06:32 PM _unreal_: ya
06:32 PM Tom_L: http://www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i96man.pdf
06:32 PM _unreal_: upto 5 axis
06:33 PM Tom_L: page 10
06:34 PM Tom_L: and starting on pdf page 14
06:34 PM _unreal_: on TB2 there are two ENC pins enc a and enc b
06:35 PM Tom_L: for encoders yes
06:35 PM _unreal_: AHH encoder
06:35 PM _unreal_: for motor or hand held encoder?
06:35 PM Tom_L: doesn't appear to have dedicated ena pins
06:36 PM _unreal_: ok so then I set an OUTPUT pin as enable
06:36 PM Tom_L: probably whatever you choose
06:36 PM Tom_L: but are there available output pins?
06:36 PM _unreal_: page 10
06:36 PM _unreal_: 6
06:37 PM Tom_L: differential
06:37 PM Tom_L: well just optos
06:37 PM Tom_L: i think you can decide if they're high or low
06:39 PM _unreal_: sucks that lcnc doesnt do RS422 via the 7i96
06:39 PM _unreal_: would be nice to let the 7i96 control my spindle
06:39 PM _unreal_: :(
06:39 PM _unreal_: going to have to buy a stupid RS422 ADAPTER for lcnc just so I can control it
06:40 PM Tom_L: pcw or jt probably has one
06:41 PM _unreal_: has one what/which?
06:41 PM Tom_L: an adapter
06:41 PM Tom_L: download the firmware for it and look at the pin file
06:43 PM Tom_L: what's xymod?
06:43 PM Tom_L: modbus?
06:43 PM Tom_L: IO 23..26 & 29
06:44 PM Tom_L: i'm not familar with that board
06:48 PM _unreal_: ?
06:48 PM _unreal_: xymod?
06:48 PM Tom_L: i'm looking at the firmware files
06:48 PM Tom_L: it's an fpga function but i dunno what it is for
06:49 PM _unreal_: I have a wixhc
06:50 PM _unreal_: whb04b-6
06:50 PM _unreal_: wireless pendent
06:50 PM _unreal_: but I'm not even worried about that till I get the machine moving
06:51 PM Tom_L: iirc there may be a comp for that
06:51 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/man/man1/xhc-whb04b-6.1.html
06:51 PM _unreal_: comp?
06:52 PM Tom_L: component
06:52 PM _unreal_: ya it will be nice to get that up and running
06:53 PM Tom_L: i bet you could run that on a rpi4
06:53 PM _unreal_: prob...
06:53 PM _unreal_: I was thginking about using the tinkerboared but it just DOESNT boot
06:53 PM _unreal_: always having boot issues
06:54 PM _unreal_: so I finally said F it
06:54 PM Tom_L: getting realtime os on it might be fun
06:54 PM Tom_L: working with linuxcnc
06:55 PM _unreal_: already did
06:55 PM _unreal_: got all that stuff working GREAT
06:55 PM _unreal_: WHEN ti boots
06:55 PM _unreal_: problem is it does that boot cycle problem
06:55 PM _unreal_: and you have to unplug everythiung from it and try cycling the boot and it finally boots. then you have to plug everything back in again
06:56 PM _unreal_: its such a pain. and makes it useless as an embeded setup
07:03 PM louipc: yes real time everywhere
07:05 PM roycroft: lovely
07:05 PM roycroft: i have a parcel that's been marked "out for delivery" since thursday last
07:05 PM roycroft: i just spoke with my letter carrier as he was turning around to go back to the post office
07:05 PM roycroft: he was out of time
07:06 PM roycroft: he has been out of time every day since last week
07:06 PM roycroft: i'm at the very end of the route
07:06 PM roycroft: and since there is zero overtime any more, at 4:45 in the afternoon, no matter where he is, he has to turn his truck around and go back to the post office so he can clock out at 5
07:07 PM roycroft: so basically i don't get any mail if he's busy
07:07 PM roycroft: and i should imagine he gets busier and busier as he fails to deliver some of the mail day after day
07:07 PM roycroft: and every night they have to unload all the excess mail from his truck
07:07 PM roycroft: and load it back on the next day
07:07 PM Tom_L: just you wait til christmas time :)
07:08 PM roycroft: yeah
07:08 PM roycroft: and there's no chance we'll have a new postmaster general by then
07:08 PM roycroft: since even if there's a change in adminstration, that won't happen until a month after christmas
07:08 PM Tom_L: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds
07:09 PM roycroft: actually, there could be a change in the adminstration any day
07:09 PM roycroft: but it would be more of the same
07:09 PM louipc: i think we'll have to go to horse and buggy to eliminate all this evil carbon
07:09 PM roycroft: but some asswipe who runs a private delivery service and who thinks the usps is competition for his service can stop them in their tracks
07:10 PM louipc: it will make delivery more fun for sure
07:10 PM roycroft: while horse manure generates less greenhouse gases than cow manure, it's still by no means a clean energy form
07:11 PM roycroft: i asked the carrier about swapping the delivery order around
07:11 PM roycroft: he didn't have time to talk for long
07:11 PM roycroft: but i know how it works
07:11 PM roycroft: they load the truck up in the morning with half the mail for the day
07:11 PM louipc: he cant right
07:11 PM roycroft: it's all sorted in delivery route order
07:11 PM roycroft: at lunch time he goes back with an empty truck
07:12 PM roycroft: they load it up for the afternoon deliveries while he's at lunch
07:12 PM roycroft: but what he told me (very briefly) is that they actually have two sorting systems
07:12 PM roycroft: one for the morning and one for the afternoon
07:12 PM louipc: you should just go to the depot to pick it up heheh
07:12 PM roycroft: and they can't do the afternoon sort in the morning
07:13 PM roycroft: until the pandemic i got all my mail at my post office box
07:13 PM roycroft: but people do not behave safely at the post office, and i try to avoid going there now
07:13 PM louipc: what do you mean safely
07:13 PM roycroft: plus, i'm working from home full-time now, so i can get the mail right as it's delivered
07:13 PM roycroft: they don't wear masks and don't distance
07:13 PM roycroft: i'm not talking about the postal workers
07:13 PM roycroft: they're all fine
07:13 PM roycroft: i'm talking about the patrons
07:14 PM louipc: meh. just wear your own ppe then u should be safe right
07:14 PM roycroft: um, no
07:14 PM roycroft: that's not how it works at all
07:14 PM roycroft: my mask protects you from me
07:14 PM louipc: what if you had a hazmat suit
07:14 PM roycroft: your mask protects me from you
07:14 PM louipc: so hazmats dont protect the wearer?
07:14 PM louipc: it only protects the hazard from the evil person?
07:15 PM roycroft: a hazmat suit is completely different to a face mask
07:15 PM roycroft: don't pretend to be daft, please
07:15 PM roycroft: it's not working
07:15 PM louipc: ok so thats what i mean.. use the proper ppe to protect yourself
07:15 PM _unreal_: how many of you have formal human health education, NURSE, med tech, doctor
07:15 PM louipc: if other people are not playing 'nice'
07:16 PM roycroft: before you even get started, _unreal_, just fuck off
07:16 PM roycroft: i don't want to hear it from you today
07:16 PM roycroft: and i am officially done taking troll bait for now
07:16 PM louipc: what do you mean by daft?
07:16 PM louipc: im completely serious
07:19 PM _unreal_: louipc, I've been a nurse, med tech, and I worked for one of the world leaders in bio med research for years..
07:20 PM louipc: cool
07:20 PM _unreal_: there are many many many studies that have been repeated arounbd the world
07:20 PM roycroft: i think my strategy for this coming shopping season will be to avoid using shippers as much as possible
07:20 PM _unreal_: in the 70s, 80, 90, 2k and so on
07:20 PM louipc: did you wear the suits
07:20 PM roycroft: and to give myself an extra week or two of lead time for anhthing i do have to order
07:21 PM _unreal_: over WAYYYY overwelmingly proving that hospitals for example that have strong mask rules have the highest rates of influenza
07:21 PM roycroft: it's really frustrating knowing something i'm waiting for has been dispatched four times, and makes it almost all the way to my house, but never quie gets here
07:21 PM _unreal_: reason being people endlessly touch them
07:21 PM roycroft: quite
07:21 PM _unreal_: roycroft, then go to the post office and pick it up
07:22 PM roycroft: they don't hold the stuff there
07:22 PM roycroft: unless they've left a call tag
07:22 PM _unreal_: tell them "DONT FUCKING BOTHER I'll get it"
07:22 PM louipc: yes mask touching, plus moist face, plus mask reuse
07:22 PM roycroft: but if they're not delivering mail there will be no call tag
07:22 PM louipc: mask should be disposed of immediatly and changed
07:22 PM roycroft: if this were ups i could ring them up and ask them to hold it
07:22 PM roycroft: the same with fedex
07:22 PM roycroft: but there is no such mechanism with the usps
07:23 PM roycroft: and besides, it's not just that parcel
07:23 PM roycroft: i've received no mail at all since last week on wednesday
07:23 PM _unreal_: louipc, working for the lab. my job was an immunodeficiency animal husbandry tech
07:23 PM louipc: _unreal_: i was told that you dont put on your own mask in those labs
07:23 PM louipc: so no touching on your part
07:24 PM _unreal_: which more or less means I had to deal with maintaining colonies of mice, tail tipping/ear notching (blood samples)
07:24 PM _unreal_: and many other aspects of recording information. and the list goes on.
07:24 PM _unreal_: thats not true
07:24 PM louipc: ok
07:24 PM _unreal_: you can touch a mask so long as its with a clean hand
07:25 PM _unreal_: the moment you touch something ANYTHING its contaminated
07:25 PM _unreal_: even waving around in the air
07:25 PM louipc: hmm
07:25 PM _unreal_: there is no such thing as an OTC mask that will protect YOU or any ANYONE else around you from anything
07:26 PM _unreal_: ESPECIALLY medical blue masks
07:26 PM louipc: i notice theres so much leakage in these blue-cloth rectangle masks
07:26 PM _unreal_: there is NO seal
07:26 PM _unreal_: any mask that has the "VENT" on the side is a joke. that is a DIRECT vent exit
07:26 PM louipc: industrial dust mask makes much better seal, then no fogging of glasses
07:26 PM louipc: n95
07:26 PM _unreal_: better seal yes
07:26 PM louipc: no leakage
07:26 PM _unreal_: but its not going to stop germs.
07:26 PM _unreal_: LOL
07:26 PM louipc: or way less anyway
07:26 PM louipc: lol
07:27 PM _unreal_: n95's micro level of filtering its HUGE compaired to germs
07:27 PM _unreal_: they go right through it
07:27 PM louipc: ouch
07:28 PM _unreal_: look it up
07:29 PM louipc: 2.5 micron good for dust particles
07:29 PM _unreal_: I bet you never have
07:29 PM roycroft: i'm not going to get involved in this with _unreal_ again - as i said, i'm done with troll bait for the day
07:29 PM roycroft: but i need to point out, louipc, that _unreal_ does not believe that covid-19 is a real disease
07:29 PM roycroft: so keep that in mind when he talks to you about this
07:30 PM XXCoder: i guess unreal menioned that viruses is smaller than filter size. true, that, but virus is nevr alone. its in water droplet
07:30 PM * roycroft goes back to his cave
07:30 PM XXCoder: roy yep thats why hes special member in my ignore list. 3 total in all irc channels in in
07:30 PM louipc: bacteria .3-5 micron, virus .005-.3 micron sound right?
07:31 PM _unreal_: any and every one of us are asymptomiatic for hundreds if not thousands of diseases at any given second of are lives
07:31 PM Tom_L: i'm pretty sure this topic has been well covered here already
07:31 PM louipc: roycroft: he hasnt said anything unbelieveble yet. only you did when u suggested that you cant have self-protecting ppe
07:31 PM louipc: which is basically what 'PPE' stands for
07:31 PM louipc: ppe isnt supposed to protect other people
07:32 PM _unreal_: louipc, yep sounds right
07:32 PM louipc: only yourself
07:32 PM XXCoder: tom yep thats why we know unreal thinks covid is fake
07:32 PM _unreal_: louipc, when I worked for the jackson lab, a few of the mind I handled went on the space shuttle 15 years ago
07:32 PM louipc: sorry to bust your bubble dude. no offense
07:32 PM _unreal_: no 18 years ago
07:33 PM XXCoder: ironic as apparently trump is sick with fake virus
07:33 PM _unreal_: LOL XXCoder
07:34 PM louipc: i have no problem with corona being real
07:34 PM _unreal_: waiting for him to do a speach and gloat "I BEAT COVID- STILL WINNING"
07:34 PM louipc: sure coronas and sars are real
07:34 PM XXCoder: yeah. i didnt say that you said so
07:34 PM XXCoder: only unreal
07:34 PM louipc: but is this latest thing really anything to be so worked up about?
07:34 PM XXCoder: 209k deaths in usa. id say so
07:35 PM louipc: look up heart disease stats
07:35 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, ?? WTF? the cdc revised the numbers there are less then 10k
07:35 PM XXCoder: whataboutism
07:35 PM louipc: yes
07:35 PM _unreal_: "209k"" inclused head shots, heart attack, car crash, cancer etc........ and tested postive
07:36 PM XXCoder: youre thinking "fine" and "died" but its hardly that
07:36 PM XXCoder: many will have ligering stuff for life
07:36 PM XXCoder: expecially kids
07:36 PM _unreal_: the cnc's offical DIED of/from covid count on the CDC web site is less then 10k
07:36 PM _unreal_: OMG CNC=CDC
07:36 PM Tom_L: can we let this rest now?
07:36 PM XXCoder: its not flu. its not cold
07:36 PM _unreal_: please
07:36 PM louipc: tru
07:36 PM louipc: guess there is a corona channel
07:37 PM louipc: or covid
07:37 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, so at this point I have all of the enable wires ready to tie toge3ther
07:37 PM Tom_L: i wired mine up finally last week
07:37 PM louipc: lol cnc
07:37 PM _unreal_: I have not set up the 7i96 yet so I'm still light on its inner workings
07:37 PM XXCoder: tom thought your machine was complete for while now
07:37 PM XXCoder: new one?
07:38 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, i got a spindle motor on the way
07:38 PM Tom_L: then it should be close to done
07:38 PM XXCoder: an upgrade?
07:38 PM Tom_L: until i decide to change something else
07:38 PM Tom_L: yes
07:38 PM XXCoder: awesome. :)
07:39 PM Tom_L: going from ~200w to 1.2kw
07:39 PM XXCoder: im so tempted to buy a shop so I can 0play around with cnc router
07:39 PM XXCoder: but my willpower is utterly broken and im dizzy af for weeks
07:39 PM Tom_L: but that was in the plan from the beginning
07:39 PM XXCoder: excellent. will it vbe able to mill steel and such?
07:39 PM Tom_L: i can mill steel now
07:39 PM Tom_L: just real slow
07:40 PM XXCoder: true heh
07:40 PM Tom_L: and the spindle gets hot
07:41 PM XXCoder: so at that you can do more for longer
07:41 PM Tom_L: it's an industrial rated motor
07:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Strap_clamp.jpg
07:42 PM Tom_L: i made a few strap clamps from 5/16
07:43 PM _unreal_: working on making adapters right now so I can tie my motors into the wiring
07:43 PM _unreal_: any one know what JST's are capable off for current?
07:47 PM skunkworks: Got the ratchet working on the down feed of the shaper..
07:47 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, what was the problem?
07:47 PM skunkworks: The pawl was frozen
07:47 PM Tom_L: rust?
07:47 PM skunkworks: (dried oil/grease
07:48 PM skunkworks: now to make a keyway and a sleeve to trap it
07:48 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, that aint a strap clamp thats a hunk of aluminum ;)
07:49 PM skunkworks: It certainly has been worked on... The taper pin turned out to be a threaded rod jammed into the hole.
07:49 PM Tom_L: no that's steel and it was cut down to size later
07:52 PM _unreal_: hunk of metal
07:52 PM _unreal_: heh
07:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_fixtures.jpg
07:52 PM XXCoder: what kind of clamp?
07:52 PM Tom_L: don't need to be fancy to work
07:52 PM XXCoder: large job? because usually its not worth it to make custom jsaws
07:53 PM _unreal_: so my new spindle is rated 1.5kw and upto 24k RPM. any thoughts on what the lowest effective RPM I could run it at is likely to be? its a bldc
07:53 PM _unreal_: brushless
07:53 PM _unreal_: water cooled as well
07:55 PM Tom_L: mine will be 1.2kw but 5600 rpm with lots of torque
07:55 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, those don't do well at low rpm
07:56 PM _unreal_: I'm asking what is the likely effective low RPM rate I might be able to hit?
07:56 PM Tom_L: i've no idea on those
07:56 PM _unreal_: I'm guessing 500-1k? rpm
07:57 PM Tom_L: little torque
07:57 PM Tom_L: you'll just have to experiment with it
07:58 PM Tom_L: i've never seen a torque curve on those high rpm spindles
08:00 PM _unreal_: ya I've never really looked it up
08:00 PM _unreal_: I tell ya I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my new mini spindle I got
08:00 PM _unreal_: my new brushless mini spindle for my home machine
08:01 PM _unreal_: its louder then the brushed one much to my annoyance but what ever. vibrations
08:01 PM _unreal_: but the power
08:01 PM _unreal_: the shaft is a solid? 5/8th all the way though the motor and its only a 300 watt spindle
08:02 PM _unreal_: it seems to average 15k rpm as well..
08:02 PM _unreal_: the quality is great
08:02 PM louipc: your spindle supplier should have supplied you with some graphs showing the power/speed
08:02 PM louipc: if not then time to hassle them
08:02 PM _unreal_: amazon
08:03 PM _unreal_: well there is the book
08:03 PM louipc: hassle
08:03 PM louipc: or find the factory it came out of lol
08:03 PM louipc: they should know
08:04 PM _unreal_: I have the water cooled version of this https://www.amazon.com/Spindle-Inverter-Variable-Frequency-Engraving/dp/B0777FBVG3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1.5k+spindle&qid=1601946193&s=hi&sr=1-3
08:04 PM louipc: all single phase right
08:04 PM _unreal_: this is my new spindle on my home machine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPFV8DC/ref=syn_sd_onsite_desktop_22?psc=1&uh_it=8b25371af61c2fd7a42e070053ab5694_CT&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzTTRHMlJERDNLUEg2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTA0MTY4WkJINzlNNzRLU08yJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEwNDY4MjhLVDNNQ1BHM09WVDAmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zZF9vbnNpdGVfZGVza3RvcCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
08:05 PM _unreal_: well sort of I have the 300 watt version
08:05 PM louipc: go 3 phase u always get good power i think..
08:05 PM louipc: at low speed
08:05 PM Tom_L: bldc is basically 3 phase
08:05 PM _unreal_: i WAS GOING TO SAY lol
08:06 PM _unreal_: wow amazon is more or less wiped out of the 1.5k spindles
08:06 PM _unreal_: glad I got the one I did when I did
08:09 PM louipc: lol the photo of the collet nut
08:10 PM skunkworks: I am suprised at how much torque the spindle on the green machine has at 10rpm
08:11 PM Tom_L: i'm hoping mine will but we'll see
08:11 PM louipc: hah why so slow
08:12 PM Tom_L: skunkworks is well... skunkworks
08:12 PM Tom_L: he does some interesting things with a mill
08:12 PM XXCoder: tom hope to see work with your mill :)
08:13 PM XXCoder: i live vacously though other people mill work lol
08:13 PM XXCoder: mangled spelling
08:13 PM Tom_L: get motivated and do your own dammit!
08:13 PM louipc: vicariously
08:13 PM XXCoder: thanks
08:13 PM XXCoder: tom yea dunno why i cant do anything
08:13 PM louipc: do u have money
08:13 PM XXCoder: i cant blame dizzyness as im already like that before
08:13 PM Tom_L: hope you find work soon too
08:14 PM louipc: i guess u dont need so much money
08:14 PM louipc: theres hacker spaces with mills and lathes now
08:14 PM XXCoder: lou yes but nvms right now heh
08:14 PM Tom_L: louipc, most of mine came from a scrap yard or surplus
08:14 PM XXCoder: *nvmos
08:14 PM louipc: or you could go to local college and ask for time after basic safety training
08:15 PM louipc: Tom_L: oh yea tru.. but you need some tinkering to get it working well
08:15 PM XXCoder: (nvmos = no visible means of support)
08:15 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPtSNO25e5tVrYTw_gUE_QlohrneV_qWU6fCrz6

08:17 PM louipc: Tom_L: but i guess u still need cash for the building/land to house them huh
08:17 PM Tom_L: mine is in my garage
08:17 PM XXCoder: ho do you manage humidity in garage?
08:17 PM Tom_L: i sweat alot
08:18 PM _unreal_: did any one look at thos links? are they fuzzy? or good?
08:18 PM louipc: google wanted me to login
08:18 PM _unreal_: err fuck it this is the jmaster https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPp1f0dUHlqqTwZCQ32JntR_n59omq5yjLi0sI1AFxK8ghJ-Fgv4MRm1h6_kwMyBw?key=b196bk50Mk9GMFd4ZFBSY0RkclVCVW9QYm0tbWFB
08:18 PM _unreal_: you shouldnt need to log in for that link

08:20 PM _unreal_: the original https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E7B1M1jfKI4YuSELQlFCzLoupKhEdofW/view?usp=sharing
08:22 PM _unreal_: ?
08:22 PM louipc: what design software do u use
08:23 PM _unreal_: multi
08:23 PM _unreal_: depends on what I'm doing
08:23 PM _unreal_: fusion, designspark, carbide create, estlcam
08:29 PM louipc: oh. i like the all-in-one approach like fusion
08:29 PM louipc: less context switching
08:29 PM louipc: dont like the cloud thing so much
08:41 PM _unreal_: louipc, have you used designspark?
08:44 PM _unreal_: louipc, 9 in 10 times when fusion gives me the ablity to choose between local process and cloud process I do a test and the local processes always takes WAYYYY lesss time
08:46 PM louipc: nope. just fusion, autocad, mastercam
08:46 PM louipc: yea you need a strong/fast network for fusion to be usable
08:47 PM louipc: part of the problem is fusion is always syncing to the cloud
08:47 PM louipc: if it cut down to few times a day would be way better
08:47 PM roycroft: not to mention autodesk changing the rules arbitrarily
08:48 PM XXCoder: fusion just really limited free version
08:48 PM XXCoder: way more limits
08:49 PM louipc: still way cheaper than mastercam or other pro software and 90% as capable depending on who you ask
08:49 PM louipc: mastercam is better for cam programming but sucks ass for design
08:49 PM louipc: and zero for engineering
08:50 PM louipc: analysis and assemblies, etc
08:50 PM louipc: but costs 10x fusion
08:52 PM XXCoder: freecad is slowly getting there
08:52 PM XXCoder: but will be long while
08:52 PM XXCoder: its quite good on design but cam hardly there. assembly is cursed
08:53 PM louipc: i'd wanna fork freecad. i think the name 'free' in anything is a curse
08:58 PM louipc: 'bestcad' 'awesomecad' better :D
08:58 PM roycroft: "free nelson mandela" worked out pretty well
08:58 PM roycroft: so did "free willy"
08:58 PM louipc: i also had a joke of wanting to make software called 'crashcam' or 'scrapcam'
09:00 PM louipc: didnt 'willy' die a horrible death after being rejected by the wild whale community
09:01 PM roycroft: in the end, keiko did, yes
09:01 PM roycroft: but at least he was free
09:01 PM louipc: yea freedom does come at a cost
09:02 PM louipc: but 'free' in those cases is strongly understood to be about freedom rather than price
09:02 PM XXCoder: lou yeah free is overused
09:02 PM roycroft: the gpl does not preclude charging money for the software
09:02 PM louipc: when you attach the word to a product that usually costs $10k or something then its a different perception
09:02 PM XXCoder: in least its not "new"
09:02 PM louipc: yes we all know that. the public not so much
09:03 PM louipc: perception becomes reality
09:03 PM XXCoder: new techology NT lol later on they had "new NT" which means new new tech lol
09:03 PM louipc: lol
09:03 PM roycroft: i've already responded to a topic that is inappropriate for this channel once today, and i do not want to get into another off-topic debate
09:03 PM roycroft: but "free" software that is under the gpl is not "free" at all
09:03 PM roycroft: it is highly encumbered
09:03 PM louipc: no doubt
09:04 PM roycroft: the bsd license is much more "free" than the gpl
09:16 PM Centurion-Dan2 is now known as Centurion_Dan
09:52 PM veegee: yeah and look at all the good that did BSD
09:53 PM veegee: you just get greedy ass companies like apple stealing code and never contributing
09:53 PM veegee: GPL is way better
09:53 PM veegee: and GPL is very much free
09:54 PM veegee: I'm so glad Richard Stallman exists. One of the very few principled people these days
10:03 PM louipc: stealing?
10:07 PM XXCoder: you cant steal bsd code
10:07 PM XXCoder: but you dont have to help it either
10:12 PM louipc: well you could 'steal' if you dont give credit i guess
10:23 PM Thorhian: How's it going roycroft?
10:25 PM Thorhian: Also XXCoder, I'll hopefully be able to slowly work on the Path Workbench for freecad. I think I'm going to try to speed up the face operation as my first project. It sucks when trying to face a specific region on a model.
10:27 PM louipc: get adaptive/dynamic/trochoidal milling then u can really make some money
10:28 PM Thorhian: Well, I want to work on that next. Freecad currently has 2/2.5D adaptive, so I'm going to try to learn from that a bit to see what the algorithm(s) are in the first place.
10:28 PM Thorhian: CAM/Tool Path algorithms seem to be quite hard to learn about from the research I've done so far.
10:29 PM louipc: lotta math
10:30 PM Thorhian: I've seen XXCoder poke around in the main FreeCAD IRC channel, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is going to get involved as well if he hasn't already.
10:30 PM Thorhian: I keep the FreeCAD/Path gitter chat open most of the time.
10:32 PM Thorhian: Also, there is a ton of math in various applications of computer science louipc, but there is usually more easily obtainable info for other math intensive applications, including other aspects of 3D graphics. Not so much for CAM/Tool Path stuff though from what I can tell.
10:33 PM Thorhian: Of course, I bet less Computer Science/Computer Programmer nerds are interested in generating tool paths for machining and manufacturing compared to other stuff.
10:41 PM louipc: you need more mathematician/programmer nerds
10:42 PM Thorhian: Yep.
10:42 PM Thorhian: That's what I'm trying to become lol. I'm only a noob though.
10:42 PM louipc: software engineer is synonymous with... nodejs script kiddie or something these days
10:44 PM Thorhian: Gosh dang it nodjs... It's okay. I prefer Elixir with Erlang's libs and VM for web applications for that kind of stuff. I definitely don't want to be stuck being a javascript code money for my career.
10:44 PM Thorhian: monkey*
10:55 PM louipc: wonder what happend to these guys https://www.freesteel.co.uk/wpblog/2014/06/26/rolling-the-wrong-way-on-the-linking-motions/
10:56 PM Thorhian: Oh wow, he is using A* to avoid uncut stock.
10:58 PM Thorhian: I've tried going through this blog. There is so much stuff on there it's really hard to grok it all and find specific things.
10:58 PM louipc: cool u know them. probly good to strike up direct conversation
10:59 PM Thorhian: Well I don't know the dude who writes it. Maybe I could try to context them directly.
10:59 PM louipc: https://www.freesteel.co.uk/wpblog/2005/07/29/machining-strategist-and-depocam/
11:01 PM louipc: yea probably could use a seperate blog to distill the cam stuff
11:05 PM Thorhian: At some point I should probably learn more of the mathematics of control theory.
11:07 PM louipc: u mean dealing with the servos directly?
11:08 PM Thorhian: That is a part of it.
11:22 PM Thorhian: I think I can learn from etrombly's dropcutter program/library as well. He is programming it in rust and using Vulkan to perform a lot of the computations on the GPU.
11:22 PM JavaBean: Thorhian: off-topic. but still when you said that i instantly thought of this song... just delayed cause i was afk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEBld6I_AKs
11:22 PM Thorhian: XD
11:22 PM Thorhian: That song lol
11:23 PM Thorhian: Thankfully I'm already married, so I'm not this low.
11:25 PM JavaBean: it is still an appropriate song for you
11:25 PM JavaBean: even if off-topic
11:25 PM CaptHindsight: louipc: did any of the settings finally kill screen blanking for good?
11:25 PM Thorhian: XD Hey man, I'm a noob, but not a code-monkie stuck in dead-end javascript job ;)
11:26 PM CaptHindsight: louipc: it's worst when they leave it in the kernel
11:27 PM louipc: what
11:47 PM XXCoder: Thorhian: nice
