01:31 AM Deejay: moin
02:16 AM Wolfmetalfab is now known as Wolf__
02:21 AM Loetmichel: Hmm. Anybody seen PETG break like THIS? Wonder how i managed to doo THAT... (ITs a pair of soft covers for a small desktop vice) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17949&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
03:06 AM t4nk_freenode: got my first ever roll of petg for my ender delivered yesterday
03:06 AM t4nk_freenode: found out later that it was transparent .. but I guess that won't really matter
03:07 AM t4nk_freenode: maybe the layer size is off?
03:09 AM t4nk_freenode: don't let cpthndsght see that picture or we'll never hear the end of it :))
03:26 AM * Loetmichel is just filing a 3.5" hole into a 5.25" drive cover... coworker: "How the heck are you able to do that "by eye" and if fits afterwards and looks good?!?" $me: "Everything looks easy if you did it a few 1000 times over!"
04:42 AM XXCoder: JT-Shop: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/582328579195666432/760797386859347979/bgf8f8f8-flat750x075f-pad750x1000f8f8f8.png?width=445&height=593 lol
05:11 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:14 AM XXCoder: hey
05:14 AM XXCoder: check out the picture heh
05:19 AM JT-Cave: yea
05:22 AM JT-Cave: a noob can make an average weld ugly with a grinder
05:24 AM XXCoder: lol i guess its easier to get skilled on grinder than welding
05:25 AM JT-Cave: welding takes really good eye sight and coordination, you have to watch the puddle not the arc which is hard to do lol
05:45 AM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, if you print anything always assume its likely going to need to be annealed. because its going to break AT the print lines
05:48 AM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, if you printed that with 100% infill, you could do the plaster trick. the idea is print your part. COAT it with plaster of Paris, once fully dry/hard then bake it, that way all of your print layers get fused together.
05:48 AM _unreal_: just remember its still plastic
05:48 AM _unreal_: once it cools break the " MOLD " and you have a solid part
05:49 AM JT-Cave: btw, I got the Rpi to read the tags in the PLC the other day and now I have to install 5 of them
05:49 AM _unreal_: got my daughters machine more or less working finaly last night. got the limit switches working
05:49 AM _unreal_: https://openbuilds.com/threads/black-box-limit-switch-wiring.15378/
05:50 AM _unreal_: I used that R/C setup and left the limit switch wiring as is. wired as N/O
05:50 AM _unreal_: and I'm getting no feed back now.
05:50 AM _unreal_: sure N/c is better but it would be a real headache to change the wiring
05:50 AM _unreal_: tonight I'll post a photo
05:58 AM t4nk_freenode: saw a vid where they used salt to get better results
05:59 AM t4nk_freenode: also supposedly made the object air and water tight
06:01 AM XXCoder: lol on weld. i bet. never tried weld
06:01 AM XXCoder: nice on rpi
06:01 AM t4nk_freenode: and it also didn't shrink as much
06:04 AM t4nk_freenode: though I'm not thinking about annealing atm tbh
06:05 AM t4nk_freenode: got some steppers coming in later today
06:05 AM t4nk_freenode: got my bearings ;)
06:05 AM t4nk_freenode: but I've decided to explore my own designs first, and leave that mpcnc for what it is
06:07 AM t4nk_freenode: I wanna see what my printed bushings can do
06:16 AM Tom_L: morning
06:30 AM JT-Cave: heat wave here today up to 81°F
06:31 AM Tom_L: 54F Hi 81 as well
07:24 AM Loetmichel: maaan, after lunch narcosis is hitting me hard today... yaaaaawn
07:38 AM t4nk_freenode: comes with age?
08:40 AM JT-Shop: or over eating...
08:41 AM JavaBean: "over eating" related narcosis can be awesome. it makes for a very comfy nap
08:41 AM * JT-Shop has forgotten how that feels
08:42 AM jymmmm: morning
08:42 AM JavaBean: eating myself into a nap is a nice treat on days i am not working
08:43 AM jymmmm: Well, looking at the sat maps, seems there are no new hot spots, but the evac warning is still in place -sigh-
08:45 AM jymmmm: and gonna be 99F today, oh joy
08:46 AM * JavaBean says YAY!!!!, only going to be 84f around here today\
08:47 AM jymmmm: Does anyone live in Zone 4 for planting trees?
08:47 AM * JavaBean heads off early, gotz trash to drop off at local dumpster
08:56 AM jymmmm: Ok, looks like Rainer Cherries do well in Zone 4
09:19 AM roycroft: rainier cherries are one of the best foods on the planet
09:19 AM roycroft: perhaps the universe, but i've not sampled any extraterrestrial fare yet, so i won't say that
09:35 AM jymmmm: Oh good, going t try and pick up two trees today
09:40 AM roycroft: most of the commercial crop is grown in the yakima valley in central washington
09:41 AM roycroft: but we grow some here in oregon
10:36 AM roycroft: what's with all the cl spam/scam emails?
10:36 AM roycroft: i list something and get a bunch of emails saying "i want the product you listed. when can i come pickup? please text me at random-gmail-address
10:36 AM roycroft: "
10:36 AM roycroft: are they trying to harvest email addresses?
10:36 AM roycroft: or are they trying to scam people?
10:37 AM roycroft: i never used to get this stuff, but i'm getting a bunch of them for every item i list now
10:39 AM * roycroft never undestood the minds of spammers/scammers, and has trouble figuring out their motives
12:01 PM Thorhian: Old people roycroft.
12:06 PM roycroft: what about old people?
12:06 PM roycroft: or are you just putting a label on me? :)
12:06 PM Tom_L: they're old?
12:06 PM Tom_L: vulnerable?
12:06 PM roycroft: i get that the spammers/scammers are trying to get something
12:06 PM roycroft: i don't get how it works
12:07 PM roycroft: are they just harvesting email addresses for future scamming/spamming?
12:07 PM roycroft: i've always assumed that cl is a place for doing that, and because of that i make up throw-away email addresses for cl
12:08 PM roycroft: as soon as an address starts getting spam i nuke it and make up another
01:02 PM JT-Shop: lol I just spotted a package the usps person left on TOP of my van...
01:04 PM roycroft: he probably figured you'd be setting your coffee cup on top while opening the door and would discover it then
03:10 PM Deejay: gn8
03:18 PM miss0r2: bah. apparently I do not have any more realy good 10mm carbide endmills. I have to run this stainless SLOW...
03:19 PM miss0r2: I broke the last two endmills because of idiocy and my boss is furious :]
03:20 PM jymmmm: miss0r2: electro etch the hole?
03:20 PM miss0r2: that will take even longer :D
03:20 PM jymmmm: miss0r2: 10 minutes?
03:22 PM miss0r2: Its a facing operation
03:22 PM miss0r2: where I leave two boses
03:23 PM jymmmm: miss0r2: leave the furious boss behind for sure.
03:25 PM miss0r2: jymmmm: The joke here is that I am selfemployed. He is somewhat hard to leave behind
03:25 PM jymmmm: miss0r2: in that case, just get him drunk and he'll shutup and start saying "I love you man..."
03:25 PM miss0r2: Indeed hehehe
03:26 PM miss0r2: We had a hotel booked for next weekend with a nice resteraunt and a bar ect. for a one night getaway. And when I say we, I am speaking of this small band of selfemployed machine repair dudes, like myself.
03:26 PM miss0r2: Sadly, due to new covid restrictions 'round here, we had to cancel.
03:29 PM miss0r2: Only two more to go: https://imgur.com/a/zECk6US
03:29 PM miss0r2: then I have to make another 10 that are mirror oposites
03:30 PM miss0r2: It has to go back into the mill for another setup, where theres milled a square ish through hole in the middle and the outer contour is cut
03:30 PM JT-Shop: nice
03:33 PM miss0r2: alright. Last blank of the night is now running in the cnc
03:35 PM miss0r2: This is actualy the exhaust port flanges for the stainless exhaust manifold I am making for the 101" land rover. As soon as I spoke to another owner about it, he ordered one.
03:36 PM miss0r2: I just told him: I'm quite sure it won't be pretty, but atleast it will be expensive.
03:42 PM JT-Shop: nice, can't wait to see how it comes out
03:42 PM miss0r2: These are the exhaust pipe side of things: https://imgur.com/a/OiyZl65
03:43 PM miss0r2: All this I've got. no problem there. Its when it comes to tieing everything together with stainless pipe I get on edge
03:43 PM miss0r2: ;)
03:43 PM miss0r2: thanks. I will keep you posted with my impending doom
03:44 PM sync: hmm, that taper looks awfully steep
03:45 PM miss0r2: I must admit it was damn near impossible to measure the original one. But I am surely within +/-2.5degrees
03:48 PM JT-Shop: what was the first part for?
03:48 PM sync: tbh the reynolds number in the exhaust is probably high enough that it does not matter but eh
03:49 PM miss0r2: JT-Shop: For the end of the manifold that mounts to the head
03:49 PM JT-Shop: ah and the other part is the connection to the exhaust pipe?
03:50 PM miss0r2: yeah
03:51 PM JT-Shop: Pete used to make custom headers before he moved to the beach
03:53 PM miss0r2: Sadly I don't have a guy that does that. I mean, I *could* just call up a random dude and ask for a quote.. well, this will be a learning experience :)
03:53 PM miss0r2: Anyway, the major problem with this car is that the space is insanely restricted.
03:53 PM JT-Shop: makes it even more fun
03:53 PM miss0r2: Which is also why the original cast iron ones crack if you look at them wrong
03:54 PM miss0r2: theres no meat in'em to allow for heat expansion
03:54 PM JT-Shop: yea bad design
03:54 PM miss0r2: I did a quite nice(lie) brass solder on one of them. But the manifold just found a new place to crack after about 2km of driving
03:55 PM JT-Shop: hmm I don't have any 1/4-20 eye bolts so I'll weld some washers on some screws then call it a day
03:55 PM miss0r2: hehe
03:55 PM miss0r2: Sounds like a land rover solution
03:56 PM miss0r2: How 'bout this one: Damn, we forgot to add a mounting thread in the cast for the dipstick tupe.. Thats okay, we will just drill and tap the end of this headbolt, and call it a day
03:57 PM Tom_L: will your mill not take a larger cutter?
03:57 PM Tom_L: 3/4 or 1" would git r dun quicker
03:58 PM Tom_L: insert cutters
03:58 PM miss0r2: I wish I was kidding: https://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Manuals/Land_Rover_101_parts_catalogue.pdf page 34, item 13
03:58 PM Tom_L: but they do look stunning :)
03:58 PM miss0r2: Tom_L: Sure, but then I would have to redesign all the internal radiuses, to allow for that :)
04:00 PM miss0r2: thanks
04:00 PM miss0r2: I will call it a night. See you around
04:00 PM Tom_L: a wednesday night for sure
04:00 PM Tom_L: did you cut the flanges too?
04:00 PM miss0r2: Yeah
04:00 PM Tom_L: bead blast em or something?
04:01 PM miss0r2: nope
04:01 PM Tom_L: nice
04:01 PM miss0r2: Those are straight off the mill
04:01 PM Tom_L: rigid tap em?
04:01 PM miss0r2: and lathe. Don't forget lathe
04:01 PM miss0r2: thread milled
04:01 PM Tom_L: even better
04:02 PM Tom_L: i got my macro working good for that
04:02 PM miss0r2: sadly, I am a fraud when it comes to that. I don't currently have any working linux cnc machines at my disposal
04:03 PM miss0r2: I am working on a emco compact at the moment, but it is nowhere near running yet
04:03 PM Tom_L: doesn't make it look any worse
04:03 PM miss0r2: Indeed
04:03 PM miss0r2: anyway, I'm out. See you
04:03 PM Tom_L: 40 taper spindle?
04:03 PM miss0r2: yeah
04:03 PM Tom_L: i see the holder
04:04 PM miss0r2: that is my shaper head, I am building
04:04 PM * Tom_L does wonder wtf that hole saw is doing in the middle of all that
04:05 PM miss0r2: What hole?
04:05 PM Tom_L: hole saw
04:06 PM miss0r2: hehe. It is a surface, therefor junk/stuff must be left there. 1st law of my shop
04:06 PM miss0r2: https://imgur.com/a/W8CaSao
04:06 PM Tom_L: it's not a shop otherwise imo
04:06 PM miss0r2: pictures of the shaperhead being made, should you be interrested.
04:07 PM Tom_L: nice
04:08 PM miss0r2: I'm hoping it will be, once I get around to getting it done.
04:08 PM miss0r2: Too many projects around here :)
04:08 PM miss0r2: Anyway. NOW I am heading off to bed. bye
04:08 PM Tom_L: bye
04:26 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
04:28 PM robotustra: evening
04:29 PM robotustra: how is everything?
04:42 PM robotustra: need to make a bushing for broaching and don't have lathe :\
04:44 PM Tom_L: hold the work in the spindle
04:44 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/thread_mills/Boring_Mill_Holder.jpg
04:46 PM robotustra: good idea
04:47 PM Tom_L: i gotta make one too for 14mm
04:47 PM Tom_L: but not today
04:48 PM robotustra: I need 13 mm and 15 mm
04:48 PM robotustra: they are not in the broaching set anyway
04:48 PM Tom_L: well then make me a 14mm one and send it
04:50 PM robotustra: for which broach?
04:51 PM Tom_L: 5mm
04:51 PM robotustra: what type? B? C?
04:51 PM Tom_L: but i'm using 3/16 cause that's what i have
04:51 PM Tom_L: and i'll file it out
04:51 PM Tom_L: my bud's gonna do it for me once i get pullies
04:51 PM Tom_L: he's got a fulls et
04:52 PM Tom_L: he's got a full set
04:52 PM unterhaus: pulled 14/2, should have been 12/2. Fun
04:53 PM robotustra: I did a blank for the gear
04:54 PM robotustra: killed 4 hours of so, on the lathe it would be like 30 min
04:54 PM robotustra: https://imgur.com/a/EBj2lr8
04:54 PM robotustra: Tom_L, the bushing will have small sholder
04:55 PM Tom_L: yeah i've seen em
05:00 PM robotustra: I mean the bushings I'm planning to make will have small shoulder :)
05:00 PM robotustra: because my stock is 16 mm only
05:01 PM robotustra: 5/8
05:01 PM Tom_L: doesn't need much
05:02 PM robotustra: well, I go make a setup
05:02 PM robotustra: let's do lathing on mill
05:02 PM robotustra: why not
05:02 PM Tom_L: i did
05:03 PM Tom_L: finish your lathe and you won't have that issue
05:05 PM JT-Shop: hmmm my PA-70 honing compound showed up today
05:06 PM robotustra: I'm making it as fast as I can, waiting for spibdle bearing bushings from mcmaster
05:06 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, what are you honing?
05:06 PM robotustra: and pulleys + belt from shina
05:12 PM JT-Shop2: mostly lathe tools on the Tormek and sometimes chisels
06:04 PM andypugh: JT-Cave: JT-Shop2 The bike is now up on the lift. 2” up on the lift, for testing.
06:04 PM andypugh: I made a video but the camera seems to be playing up. The last several “takes” are several minutes of the first frame.
06:40 PM robotustra: Tom_L, you know what? https://imgur.com/a/znLaQXT
06:40 PM robotustra: it works
06:45 PM _unreal_: sup
06:45 PM robotustra: my first lathe job on a .... mill
06:45 PM robotustra: :)
07:16 PM stinkpot: hi Loetmichel
07:16 PM stinkpot: do you still have that cnc router for woodwork?
07:37 PM t4nk_freenode: sjees, I just opened my package with the steppers and some stuff
07:38 PM Tom_L: robotustra, no reason it wouldn't work :)
07:38 PM t4nk_freenode: couple of nuts
07:39 PM t4nk_freenode: aluminium.. for on the steppers to drive some belts maybe.. MAN.. I'd hardly believe they weren't plastic
07:39 PM t4nk_freenode: so friggin light
07:39 PM t4nk_freenode: ehm *would almost not believe, orsth
07:40 PM t4nk_freenode: bedtime.
07:42 PM Tom_L: robotustra, another mill lathe job: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Inline_spacer.jpg
07:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Inline_Softjaws.jpg
07:45 PM robotustra: Tom_L, so, you don't have lathe?
07:45 PM Tom_L: yeah i do but it's tired
07:48 PM robotustra: how old is it?
07:49 PM robotustra: lathe can work for 300 years or so
07:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Z_Axis_Pulley.jpg
07:59 PM robotustra: if it work - it's ok
08:00 PM Tom_L: i get by with it
09:20 PM veegee: Just got my thinkpad P15 top of the line model with 4K LCD
09:20 PM veegee: If they would just get rid of the matte display overlay, it would be so much better
09:20 PM veegee: why is apple the only one making high resolution glossy displays?
09:21 PM veegee: Matte makes every display look like trash
09:21 PM veegee: The OLED option is glossy, but I don't want to risk screen burn in yet on such an expensive machine. Also it has a touch layer which apparently makes the display look grainy, so that's a no go
