12:22 AM XXCoder: roycroft: wood chips and epoxy to make something cool
12:28 AM CaptHindsight: robotustra: Russian humor very good, we let you live
02:44 AM pink_vampire: hi
02:44 AM XXCoder: hey
04:31 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: this sounds like super cap battery heh https://interestingengineering.com/israeli-firm-introduces-new-drone-technology-with-five-minute-recharge?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Article&utm_campaign=organic&utm_content=Jul31
04:31 AM XXCoder: oh something new
04:35 AM pink_vampire: maybe..
04:36 AM XXCoder: it charges like cap but discharges slowly like battery
04:36 AM XXCoder: definitely interesting applications there
04:42 AM pink_vampire: I'm doing some wire markers https://i.imgur.com/OuHiq90.png
04:43 AM XXCoder: it clips into wire?
04:44 AM pink_vampire: yes
04:45 AM XXCoder: nice
04:45 AM pink_vampire: I did alot of them in the past
04:46 AM XXCoder: 3d printed? or is it something bought?
04:48 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/JVTHCGW.png
04:48 AM pink_vampire: I got them long time ago
04:48 AM pink_vampire: it is made by ABB
05:02 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:02 AM XXCoder: yo
05:30 AM pink_vampire: hi JT-Cave
05:34 AM JT-Cave: morning pink_vampire
06:01 AM pink_vampire: how is everything?
06:19 AM Tom_L: morning
06:20 AM JT-Cave: cooling down a tad but still wet outside
06:20 AM JT-Cave: you cool down yet Tom_L
06:21 AM Tom_L: 64 / 87
06:22 AM Tom_L: looks dry out
06:31 AM Tom_L: doubtful but maybe we'll get an early fall
06:56 AM JT-Cave: wow our high is 76°F today
06:56 AM XXCoder: it went cloudy at afternoon and night here
06:56 AM XXCoder: tomorrow peak will be 73f
06:57 AM XXCoder: was 80f today, and few days was high 80s
08:55 AM andypugh_ is now known as andypugh
11:08 AM jymmmm: The lights are on, but nobody's home
11:10 AM Tom_L: o_O
12:00 PM Thorhian: So, does anyone know what this kind of coil is? https://imgur.com/a/QeijUpv
12:00 PM Thorhian: It had broken metalic material surrounding it, shown in the second picture.
12:02 PM Thorhian: BTW, this device is a Zero Voltage Switching power supply. I plan on using it for my spindle motor.
12:11 PM pink_vampire: it is look like a one of those high frequency transformers.
12:12 PM pink_vampire: if you are lucky there is a model number on them,
12:12 PM jymmmm: the broken metal is ferriot (sp), if yu have all the pieces you could try crazy gluing it back together
12:12 PM pink_vampire: other then that - HOW you manage to brake it?
12:12 PM jymmmm: dd someone drop it or something?
12:13 PM pink_vampire: Thorhian: ^
12:13 PM Thorhian: There is a tag for it that I found on the remains for a model number, but I can't find the part anywhere.
12:14 PM Thorhian: Also, this came damaged from DHL from Banggood. THey offered me $10 for my trouble lol.
12:14 PM pink_vampire: how much it cost?
12:14 PM Thorhian: $100
12:14 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: WHO offered $10? DHL or Banggood?
12:14 PM Thorhian: Banggood.
12:14 PM pink_vampire: you can't get full refund?
12:15 PM Thorhian: It would still turn on technically, but I didn't dare put a load on it.
12:15 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: Tell them you want a full refund because the unit is completely useless
12:16 PM pink_vampire: Thorhian: what jymmmm sad
12:16 PM Thorhian: Yeah I know.
12:17 PM pink_vampire: so talk to them
12:17 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: Else, contact your CC company and request a refund for defective product
12:18 PM jymmmm: I've done that a few times with aliexpress
12:19 PM Thorhian: It has been a while since I have talked to them, and I didn't do anything about it so I'm not sure. This was back in June. I couldn't open it up without "Voiding" the warranty to examine it closer. Not sure if my bank would do that at this point.
12:19 PM Thorhian: Well technically I used paypal.
12:20 PM Thorhian: Exact quote from banggood: "In this case, to resolve this issue, would you accept to receive a refund US$20 as a token of our apologies?
12:20 PM Thorhian: "
12:22 PM Thorhian: The reason why I knew something was broken was because the ferrite material was spewing from the back of the PSU when I opened the package.
12:22 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: Well, tell them what I just said
12:23 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: If they decline, open a dispute with pp
12:26 PM Thorhian: Doing it now.
12:30 PM Thorhian: Sent them an email demanding the full refund.
12:30 PM _unreal_: so what do you guys think of the final version?
12:30 PM _unreal_: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/717411349541683212/738917731151118376/15962420896107010412417595846703.jpg
12:31 PM Thorhian: Dang dude, I forgot about that machine.
12:31 PM _unreal_: my machine just finished milling the parts and I got them put together the other day the NEW z
12:32 PM _unreal_: going to ditch the old z
12:32 PM _unreal_: lack of being rigid, newer better spindle
12:32 PM _unreal_: and other aspec ts
12:32 PM _unreal_: aspects
12:32 PM jymmmm: Thorhian: Don't be rude in your email, just firm.
12:32 PM Thorhian: I was firm, not rude.
12:33 PM jymmmm: cool
12:34 PM Thorhian: I did mention that I had documented evidence that I did report this damage to them within 7 days of receiving the unit as well, so even if it has been a while, they should refund me.
01:14 PM pink_vampire: _unreal_: what are you making with this machine?
01:24 PM jymmmm: espresso :D
01:36 PM pink_vampire: linuxcnc keurig control
01:36 PM pink_vampire: jymmmm: ^
01:38 PM roycroft: a keurig does not make espresso
01:38 PM roycroft: it makes crappy yuppie juice
01:38 PM jymmmm: pink_vampire: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2324
01:39 PM _unreal_: making?
01:39 PM _unreal_: the new z is sitting in the picture
01:39 PM _unreal_: when this @#%@#$ hurricane goes away I'm going to finish it
01:39 PM _unreal_: swap the parts mod what needs to be modded
01:41 PM pink_vampire: jymmmm: error 418 and htcpcp is something super cool, and I was obsessed with it for a while.
01:42 PM jymmmm: pink_vampire: haha, ESP32 makes it a reality
01:44 PM renesis: roycroft: true
01:44 PM renesis: roycroft: linuxcnc french press would be acceptable, tho
01:45 PM renesis: would also have to handle dumping the grounds and rinsing it out
01:51 PM roycroft: the espresso folks are into high tech espresso makers
01:51 PM roycroft: a lot of them make pid controllers to regulate the temperture on their espresso machines
01:52 PM roycroft: i've considered adding one to mine, but i can't remember the last time i made a cappuccino that i found unpleasant to drink
01:52 PM roycroft: so i guess what i have works ok
02:58 PM sync: roycroft: the trick is to fully trust the italian convection™
03:08 PM roycroft: well my espresso machine is italian
03:08 PM roycroft: as is my grinder
03:29 PM jymmmm: roycroft: But is there a "MADE IN CHINA" sticker on the bottom =)
06:28 PM CaptHindsight: are people so pathetic that they post pics of bolt torque charts on pintrest just to get hits, and the charts are incomplete
06:29 PM XXCoder: for those, the hits is just like other kind of hits
06:30 PM XXCoder: ie they are addicted
06:30 PM XXCoder: so they do anything to get more hits
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: IF it's even about hits
06:30 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: google -pinterest blah
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: pintrest seems to be a shitpost site
06:31 PM XXCoder: yeah it adds so much crud to results
06:31 PM XXCoder: so annoying
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: sure, just noticed in passing
06:31 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Exactly why I exclude it in searched
06:31 PM jymmmm: seaches*
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: also metric bolt torque brings up lots of non metric results
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: fuckers ruin everything
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: even worse searching on Amazon
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: and ebay with sponsored listing in the middle of what you actually want
06:34 PM XXCoder: yeah I hate sponsored so much
06:34 PM jymmmm: I HATE ebay's "framed" item"
06:35 PM CaptHindsight: the adblockers all seem to have been purchased by co's that track you
06:36 PM CaptHindsight: "access to all your browser tabs, history, search results, childhood photos, snapchat, dreams when you were 15 ....
06:37 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/BuLeQ1P.mp4
06:43 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: just go incognito and have 45 browser iterations, tht'll show em!
10:09 PM Thorhian: I've been drilling holes and tapping them for my linear rails today. It's been fun.
10:09 PM veegee: I left some empty crates made of OSB outside on the loading platform and it's going to rain
10:10 PM veegee: No space to move them inside right now with the way I have things organized, in the middle of reorganizing stuff
10:10 PM veegee: Anything I can do to protect them?
10:10 PM veegee: I think water destroys OSB
10:11 PM Tom_L: move them inside
10:12 PM jymmmm: veegee: put a tarp over them
10:12 PM jymmmm: with weights, bricks, rocks, etc
10:13 PM Tom_L: the bottom will still get wet if it's standing in water
10:13 PM roycroft: no space is a familiar state of affairs for me these days
10:13 PM jymmmm: stand the crate on brocks
10:13 PM jymmmm: bricks
10:13 PM Tom_L: new caiplers require a new enclosure: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/calipers/mitutoyo.jpg
10:13 PM roycroft: this workbench project has my wood shop totally full such that i have to move some things outside whenever i work on it
10:13 PM jymmmm: 2x4 will soak up the water
10:14 PM roycroft: my mitutoyo calipers have no home, because they are in constant use
10:14 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: 2 pieces of foam, done. no milling required
10:15 PM Tom_L: 8" mitsutoyo
10:15 PM Tom_L: covers most of what i do
10:16 PM Tom_L: i've got a crap pair i leave out in the garage
10:16 PM veegee: Tom_L the bottom is like a pallet made of solid wood, so bottom is fine
10:16 PM veegee: Jymmm I thought tarps were not water proof
10:17 PM veegee: I have a few random ones and water goes through all of them (slowly)
10:17 PM veegee: do I just have the wrong kind?
10:17 PM jymmmm: veegee: silver are, blue are semi waterproof
10:17 PM Tom_L: yeah that's why i said move them
10:17 PM veegee: oh damn I have the blue ones
10:17 PM Tom_L: unless you have some 6 mil plastic etc
10:17 PM veegee: I also have silver ones still in the package, I'll try those
10:17 PM roycroft: the silver ones are quite waterproof, except at the seams
10:18 PM jymmmm: veegee: plastic sheet, shower curtain, etc, then blue tarp for strength
10:18 PM veegee: yeah moving them is last resort because there are more of them inside in front of the loading door
10:18 PM roycroft: brown ones are fairly waterproof
10:18 PM roycroft: blue ones are totally useless
10:18 PM veegee: I have large silver ones, I'll go with that, thanks
10:21 PM roycroft: actually, blue tarps are ok for keeping dust off things for a shortwhile
