03:13 AM Loetmichel: hehe, languages... Polish coworker just tried to open a big oversears crate with a hammer and a small screwdriver as lever... i walked by. "Oh, we shouldnt buy a 'kuhfuss' for that." Coworker: "A WHAT?" "A cow foot a.k.a Crowbar." i said. Him: "Ah, a łom, yes, that would be nice".
03:32 AM rmu: now the question is what is a cow-orker
03:35 AM Loetmichel: :-)
03:47 AM pink_vampire: Loetmichel: your job seams like fun
03:48 AM Loetmichel: it is. but why do you think so?
03:52 AM pink_vampire: IDK
03:53 AM veegee: Soooooo
03:54 AM veegee: My motorcycle got a flat tire in the parking lot
03:54 AM veegee: Somehow a fully threaded deck screw drove itself all the way in. It takes a tremendous amount of force to drive a threaded screw into tire rubber
03:54 AM veegee: I have no idea how that happened
03:55 AM veegee: In any case, spent the whole night clearing out debris in the parking lot with a leaf blower.
03:55 AM veegee: I need to get a proper backpack blower
04:16 AM veegee: pink_vampire can I instead just hook up the cylinder in question to a hand operated hydraulic pump?
04:17 AM veegee: That would allow me to test that the cylinder is working as it should
04:19 AM pink_vampire: yes, if you cross between 2 cylinders it will allow you to test it with other valve
04:20 AM rmu: anybody now a distributor or shop of delta b3 servo systems in europe?
05:30 AM JT-Cave: moonring
05:31 AM XXCoder: hey
05:32 AM XXCoder: company just let go of 2 qa workers
05:32 AM XXCoder: it dont bode well
05:32 AM XXCoder: as it leaves 2nd shift with no qa
05:32 AM JT-Cave: wow
05:32 AM XXCoder: either they will move one of day qa to 2nd, or worse
05:32 AM XXCoder: almost for sure we will have hours cut soon
05:34 AM XXCoder: im virtually least essental machinist
05:34 AM XXCoder: so if they start working down machinists im almost certain gone
05:37 AM JT-Cave: it's going to be a long while before the world returns to normal
05:37 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:37 AM XXCoder: expecially for usa
06:04 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: https://interestingengineering.com/video/test-your-arduino-skills-with-this-diy-wire-bending-machine
06:06 AM XXCoder: badly formed or proper made gears? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/582328073878241303/735266373508530226/SnapShot38.jpg
07:03 AM JT-Cave: I wrote a web browser for my coops https://imagebin.ca/v/5UIUySq972ZX
07:04 AM XXCoder: nice
07:04 AM XXCoder: did you see picture of gears?
07:04 AM XXCoder: its interesting illusion
07:05 AM JT-Cave: yes
07:07 AM XXCoder: cool isnt it heh
07:08 AM * Loetmichel just wante to blurt out: "thats the wrong direction of bow in the teeth!" until i looked closer and saw what was the "shadow" and what was the real gear
07:12 AM Tom_L: morning
07:15 AM JT-Cave: yo
07:28 AM Tom_L: no temp monitor on Coop Uno?
07:29 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest71830
07:32 AM JT-Cave: no, I need to put one in
07:42 AM JavaBean: JT!!! just who i wanted to see, https://9gag.com/gag/aYyo3Y2
07:43 AM JT-Cave: My daughter showed me that yesterday lol
07:45 AM JavaBean: well, atleast now we can be sure that you know... when does your order come in??
07:47 AM robotustra: where to buy more brain for the head?
07:47 AM JT-Cave: I would not do that to my chickens
07:55 AM robotustra: hm, there is no 5/8-10 acme nuts on mcmaster
07:55 AM robotustra: only 5/8-8
08:02 AM robotustra: ah, found
08:02 AM robotustra: but the nut is not brass
08:03 AM JavaBean: well, atleast now science has an answer https://kvia.com/news/us-world/2020/07/22/how-many-hot-dogs-can-a-human-possibly-eat-science-finally-has-an-answer/
08:08 AM robotustra: deny
08:09 AM robotustra: there are much simpler ways for suicide
08:11 AM JavaBean: where is your sense of ADVENTURE?
08:11 AM robotustra: there is no adventure after the death :)
08:12 AM robotustra: ordered expensive acme nuts
08:13 AM robotustra: for experiments
08:13 AM robotustra: for adventure
08:13 AM JavaBean: shoulda capitalized that
10:35 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
11:50 AM jymmmm: Good morning
11:56 AM robotustra: mornong
12:05 PM roycroft: grr
12:05 PM roycroft: have any of you been door tagged by fedex lately?
12:05 PM roycroft: it just happened to me
12:06 PM roycroft: i was sitting in my office, 5 meters away from the front door, knowing they would be here today
12:06 PM roycroft: i went to take out the trash and found a door tag on the door with a timestamp 5 minutes earlier
12:06 PM roycroft: no door knock
12:06 PM roycroft: no doorbell
12:06 PM roycroft: just the tag
12:06 PM roycroft: fedex would not talk to me
12:07 PM roycroft: i contacted the shipper, who contacted fedex, who basically admitted to the shipper that their drivers are really stressed and many are doing drive by tagging instead of actually delivering
12:07 PM robotustra: because of known reasons
12:07 PM roycroft: i understand that they're busy
12:07 PM roycroft: but they've had six months to staff up
12:08 PM robotustra: it happens simetimes with me too
12:08 PM roycroft: this is not something new
12:08 PM roycroft: what i really don't get is that the parcel at issue is large and weighs 25kg
12:08 PM robotustra: but today I got my parsel, dropped in the lobby of the building
12:08 PM roycroft: if they're going to do a tag and run, one would think they would do it with something small and light, that can be easily unloaded/reloaded
12:09 PM robotustra: but they ring the door to pick it up
12:09 PM roycroft: although if the drivers do not do the loading/unloading of their vehicles i guess they won't care
12:09 PM jymmmm: So it's faster to tag, and hold on to a package in the truck to deal with later? Doesn't make sense.
12:09 PM roycroft: no, it doesn't
12:09 PM roycroft: but apparently it's a thing
12:09 PM roycroft: this required a signature
12:10 PM robotustra: roycroft, file a complain
12:10 PM roycroft: i suppose that by the time one actually signs for it it atkes a few more seconds than just leaving a pre-filled call gag on the door
12:10 PM rmu: roycroft: install a trapdoor
12:10 PM robotustra: or use different carrier
12:10 PM roycroft: i guarantee that the driver filled out the call tag before stepping out of the delivery vehicle
12:10 PM roycroft: i'm not the shipper
12:10 PM roycroft: i do not have a choice of shippers
12:10 PM roycroft: nor can i file a complaint
12:10 PM roycroft: only the shipper can file a complaint
12:11 PM roycroft: the shipper is at least as frustrated about this as i am
12:11 PM roycroft: they say it's happening to them daily
12:11 PM robotustra: you can complain about post service, not a parcel
12:11 PM roycroft: and not only are they seeing a lot of tag and runs, they're seeing a lot of parcels returned early as undeliverable
12:12 PM roycroft: i.e. they don't even make the subsequent delivery attempts
12:12 PM roycroft: they just do the tag and run and then return it
12:12 PM roycroft: if i were the shipper
12:12 PM robotustra: purolator do this all the time
12:12 PM roycroft: or if i were paying for the shipping (directly to fedex, not to the vendor)
12:12 PM robotustra: hate them
12:12 PM roycroft: then i could complain to fedex
12:13 PM roycroft: but since i'm just the recipient, and it's not on my fedex account, they won't even talk to me
12:13 PM roycroft: they told me to contact the shipper
12:13 PM roycroft: which i did
12:14 PM robotustra: I don't know, I asked once in the office wether I can complain - they gave me a phone number
12:14 PM robotustra: if I know the route number - they will f*ck up the driver
12:14 PM robotustra: lazy as**s
12:15 PM roycroft: i had to call fedex four times before i could even get through to a human who then refused to help me
12:15 PM roycroft: that's the other thing that's frustrating
12:15 PM snakedGT is now known as snaked
12:16 PM roycroft: six months after the pandemic began, vendors still don't have their support channels working right
12:16 PM roycroft: it's impossible to call a credit card issuer and speak to a human
12:16 PM roycroft: it's impossible to call most customer service departments and speak to a human
12:16 PM roycroft: there are still hours long hold queues for them that even semi-function
12:17 PM roycroft: people are out of work
12:17 PM roycroft: why not staff up call centers?
12:17 PM roycroft: telecommuting is working for call centers now
12:18 PM roycroft: but a lot of large corporations, i suspect, are using the pandemic as an excuse to cut costs
12:18 PM roycroft: i was very understanding of these problems in march, and april, and may, and even into early june
12:19 PM roycroft: but it's been happening long enough that corporations should have their shit together by now
12:20 PM robotustra: where did you see that corps are thinking about ppl?
12:20 PM robotustra: you are funny
12:20 PM robotustra: the goal of corps = get you money, make you poor and obidient
12:21 PM roycroft: i never suggested any such thing
12:21 PM roycroft: i'm saying they've gone from bad to taking advantage of a situation to get even worse
12:22 PM roycroft: and that their excuse is worn out
12:24 PM robotustra: what we can interpose to corps?
12:24 PM robotustra: I think not much
12:25 PM roycroft: if i respond to that i risk bringing politics into the channel, which i'm trying to avoid doing
12:25 PM roycroft: so i'll just say that i'm still frustrated about this delivery fiasco
12:25 PM roycroft: and that's that :)
12:27 PM robotustra: true
12:31 PM robotustra: https://i.redd.it/rp4wqodw6eb51.jpg
12:36 PM robotustra: what is the advantage/disadvantage in using wavy parrallels instead of usual one?
12:37 PM roycroft: if you need a through feature right on the edge they can help
12:38 PM Rab: Never seen wavy parallels before, but here's a PM thread: https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/general-archive/wavy-parallels-vs-normal-74295/
12:38 PM Rab: I guess extra support for thin workpieces is an advantage.
12:39 PM roycroft: that too
12:40 PM selroc: hi
12:42 PM JT-Cave: I have a set somewhere...
12:42 PM Rab: Seeming disadvantage would be that if they get twisted even slightly, they're no longer parallels...again, never handled them, so I'm not sure how easy that would be.
12:49 PM robotustra: because my vision of wavy parallels - china want to save some metal on parallels
12:49 PM robotustra: :)
12:50 PM robotustra: no reasonable explanation
12:52 PM Rab: Starrett, B&S, etc offer precision wavy parallels, so that would be an industry trend.
12:52 PM robotustra: yeah, may be they are good for clamping small parts
12:53 PM robotustra: where usual ones are too wide
01:18 PM JT-Shop: hmm what's the name of the hal config program?
01:18 PM JT-Shop: halshow
01:38 PM pink_vampire: Thingiverse is currently undergoing maintenance.
02:21 PM snakedGT is now known as snaked
03:44 PM SpeedEvil: [https://i.imgur.com/nqb1bbW.jpg
03:47 PM XXCoder: lol thankfully empty. that or he has neck of steel
03:49 PM jymmmm: YAY, my cells JUST arrived
03:50 PM XXCoder: human cells so you can keep pretending to be human? ;)
03:51 PM jymmmm: Um, okey... sure
03:51 PM XXCoder: lol
03:51 PM rmu: looks like ottakringer helles
03:52 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: battery cells
03:52 PM XXCoder: yeah? fixing batteries?
03:52 PM XXCoder: or making new one?
03:53 PM jymmmm: making
03:54 PM XXCoder: cool :)
03:55 PM jymmmm: you can start a car with four of these cells
04:06 PM * roycroft makes his own cells
04:06 PM * roycroft just eats
05:20 PM Loetmichel: Jymmm: tahts no feat. a 4s 2300mah A123 cell pack can start a diesel.
05:20 PM Loetmichel: and even a 2.5l 6cyl one ;)
06:22 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: What's the C rate?
06:24 PM ve7it: _unreal_, an servo action?
06:27 PM _unreal_: nope xwife problems
06:28 PM _unreal_: not by choice. but I've been living with family
06:29 PM _unreal_: moved in to rebuild my self after divorce. then my step mother who was very positive about me moving in YES YES YES divorced my father. her plan was to have me take over the house because he travles around the world for work
06:29 PM _unreal_: then about 8 months after she moved out err left the state. my father came down with stage 4 cancer.
06:29 PM _unreal_: father just got confirmation yesterday he BEAT cancer
06:30 PM _unreal_: but he entrapped me. m daughter has been stuck at her mothers since late march
06:30 PM _unreal_: my father OWNT let her return "BEER BUG"
06:30 PM _unreal_: GRANTED taking kemo but he also told me his blood work said his IMUNE system is strong white blood cell count great EVERYTHING... wtf recovery
06:31 PM _unreal_: well my xwife is trying to "steal" are daughter. I have primary EVERYTHING shes a nut case.
06:31 PM _unreal_: but my father trapped me with the house claiming I had to pay for the bills etc... cause he got let go from his job. he's worth lets just say a few million or so...
06:32 PM _unreal_: so I cant leave my daughter cant stay ETC....
06:32 PM _unreal_: the school is refusing to let my xwife transfer and enroll are duaghter
06:34 PM _unreal_: where she is. per court documents
06:35 PM _unreal_: so now she's threatening court.
07:03 PM roycroft: the hardwood dealer i've been buying from for years have become rather rude and uncooperative to the point that i would have to wait potentially months to get what i need for my current project
07:03 PM roycroft: i purchased what they had that worked for me, but it was not even half of what i needed
07:04 PM roycroft: so i set up an account at another one, who carry about 10x the inventory, and are even closer to my house
07:04 PM roycroft: the stuff i just bought at the old dealer cost me $5.41/bord foot
07:04 PM roycroft: i just paid $3.31 for better quality timber at the new one
07:05 PM roycroft: i should have switched years ago
07:05 PM roycroft: i have this loyalty problem though
07:05 PM roycroft: i establish a relationship with someone and i'm loathe to move on
07:06 PM roycroft: but even the sudden rudeness and non-cooperation notwithstanding, that's too big a difference in price for me not to move on
07:08 PM SpeedEvil: [:)
07:09 PM veegee: What's the purpose of a variable displacement hydraulic pump?
07:10 PM veegee: I mean, I understand how it works and all that, but why all that complicated mechanics?
07:11 PM * roycroft saved over $200 today going to the new outfit
07:12 PM veegee: If you want to vary the flow, why not slow down the pump?
07:12 PM Tom_L: veegee, gets to the destination quick then switches to pressure
07:12 PM veegee: Oh for immediate feedback via the hydraulic system itself?
08:01 PM jymmmm: Electric airboat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76c3Hf_19-k
08:02 PM pink_vampire: jymmmm: nice find
08:28 PM jymmmm: pink_vampire: =)
08:38 PM robotustra: if he made it more durable it could be a good thing
08:39 PM robotustra: but it's just a proof of concept
08:59 PM jymmmm: This looks like a lot of fun https://youtu.be/9OhZK_wyPqY?t=1702
09:08 PM veegee: You don't know how powerful a dremel is until a carbide burr gets unbalanced at 35,000 RPM and bends itself 90º while still stuck in the collet
09:09 PM veegee: Can't believe I was able to switch it off while my whole arm was vibrating faster than I could see
09:10 PM veegee: never buy chineseium high speed bits
09:12 PM robotustra: never do free hand high rotation operations, unless you are a dentist :)
09:14 PM veegee: that's like the whole point of a dremel/die grinder
09:15 PM robotustra: I hate something rotating in my hands, I did a lot of grinding and in 1 hour your hands are shaking by themself
09:21 PM veegee: Odd, never had that problem
09:23 PM veegee: jymmmm damn those are some ugly welds
09:28 PM veegee: All that trouble for a piece of junk. Could have just stuck an RC ducted fan and be done with it
09:29 PM veegee: that motor configuration, just WHY??
09:56 PM jymmmm: veegee: who cares when the results are the same
09:58 PM robotustra: https://i.redd.it/aabuh341a1c51.jpg
10:06 PM veegee: No but really, that guy's welding and machining is terrible
10:06 PM robotustra: who cares if he do it for himself and just for fun?
10:07 PM veegee: Yeah that's true, I'm just used to watching higher quality channels
10:07 PM veegee: I've never seen a cringy one like this. It hit me pretty hard
10:08 PM robotustra: higher quality means that people do things slower
10:08 PM jymmmm: Veery cool... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIFHmQtMCqg
10:16 PM robotustra: yeah cool
10:17 PM robotustra: I started to mill t-nuts for my new mill
10:18 PM robotustra: I have a set for router, nut they are small a bit, so I decided just to make new t-nuts to use the same fixture on both machines
10:18 PM robotustra: actually it mills steel and I like it
10:19 PM robotustra: I can mill iron parallelepipeds :)
10:20 PM robotustra: if to think for a bit - how many things you can already make if you can just mill prisms from steel
10:24 PM veegee: Same, milled my own T slot nuts from 4140 chromoly
10:24 PM veegee: then quenched and tempered
10:33 PM robotustra: I don't have any oven
10:33 PM robotustra: will use it as is
10:33 PM robotustra: they are 1/2' thick, i think they will have enough of strength
10:34 PM veegee: Oh yeah, even mild steel is more than enough
10:34 PM veegee: I just tempered for the hell of it
10:35 PM veegee: especially at 1/2 ft, that's one hell of a T slot nut
10:37 PM robotustra: 1/2"
10:37 PM robotustra: :)
10:37 PM robotustra: sorry
10:37 PM robotustra: the thread is M8
10:37 PM veegee: lol I know I'm just messing with ya
10:37 PM robotustra: looking for local steel supplier
10:38 PM robotustra: there is 4140 in here too
10:38 PM robotustra: I don't know a lot of steel types very much
10:39 PM robotustra: have to read some about. I need may be some stainless to work with
10:51 PM robotustra: There are 40,000 pounds of titanium on a Boeing 747
11:20 PM roycroft: the 747 is a failed jet
11:20 PM roycroft: it's too big and it's being retired all over
11:20 PM roycroft: the boneyards will be full of them in no time
11:21 PM roycroft: will the price of titanium plummet?
11:21 PM norias: oh, maybe they'll go cheap on the used market
11:21 PM norias: i was gonna save up for a cesna, but maybe i should just wait for these
11:24 PM JavaBean: if you were "saving up for a cesna" then sitting on the tarmac waiting to takeoff in a 747 would probably bankrupt you... those things are fuel pigs
