12:05 AM perry_j1987: g'evening
03:10 AM pink_vampire: note for myself - even thin layer of super glue is very poor heat conductor, and will convert your small part from aluminum to flight grade aluminum.
03:10 AM pink_vampire: Loetmichel: XXCoder ^
03:10 AM XXCoder: doh
03:10 AM XXCoder: flight quality alum is lower quality?
03:11 AM pink_vampire: 2024-t3
03:11 AM pink_vampire: tested for 4feet of flight.
03:12 AM pink_vampire: I might even went supersonic
03:12 AM pink_vampire: It*
03:13 AM XXCoder: lol ok
03:18 AM pink_vampire: wish me luk with my M2 tapping
03:18 AM XXCoder: good luck! machine tap or hand tap?
03:18 AM pink_vampire: IDK
03:18 AM pink_vampire: what do you say
03:19 AM XXCoder: wil you be using machine to automically tap part
03:19 AM XXCoder: or just do it by hand, or using machine as holder for tapping
03:20 AM pink_vampire: I need to drill 1.6 mm hole
03:21 AM pink_vampire: and I want to do it on the 60K
03:21 AM pink_vampire: but for the tapping I need the slow servo
03:21 AM pink_vampire: and yeah I can make all the offsets, but it will take less time to do it by hand
03:22 AM XXCoder: yeah one parter its better do manual than code hours
03:34 AM pink_vampire: I forgot to tell you it is a blind hole. that need to be tapped.
03:34 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: ^
03:35 AM XXCoder: ya
03:35 AM XXCoder: kinda assumed that heh
03:35 AM XXCoder: at work sometimes we need thread all way down
03:35 AM XXCoder: so we grind tip off and have a tap that can go all way. annoying though as it makes it bit hard to thread in
03:36 AM pink_vampire: that is very good idea!
03:59 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder:
03:59 AM XXCoder: yea
04:00 AM pink_vampire: apparently dremel makes very nice m2 tapping guide for 1/8" collet
04:01 AM pink_vampire: I took the shank for the cutting disks, remove the screw, and you have something with 1/8" shank and a hole to center your m2 tap
04:06 AM XXCoder: lol interesting
04:48 AM pink_vampire|2: not sure what is going on with freenode
04:51 AM XXCoder: probably specific to node you are on
04:51 AM XXCoder: been fine here'
05:00 AM miss0r: G'day
05:01 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:03 AM XXCoder: heys
05:08 AM miss0r: Anyone up to anything interresting?
05:08 AM * miss0r is bored
05:08 AM miss0r: and I do not want to clean anymore! I'M DECLARING BREAK !
05:08 AM XXCoder: bored
05:09 AM miss0r: I had an interresting car ride this morning, should anyone be interrested...
05:09 AM miss0r: I had all the early symptoms of a food poisoning. Luckily it passed :)
05:09 AM miss0r: I was seriously contemplating turning the car around and cancelling my visit at a costumers place. Now I'm glad I didn't
05:11 AM miss0r: two hours behind the wheel is a long time if you are pretty sure you will start experiencing explosive diarrhea and vomiting any minut
05:11 AM XXCoder: 2 hours? damn
05:11 AM miss0r: yeah. I was little over halfway there when I started getting the feeling of what I was sure would come. But it never did, thankfully
05:12 AM XXCoder: i know how it feels, to some extent
05:12 AM miss0r: I am very familiar with the symptoms, as I spend 10 years doing process equipment/installation at sewage plants. It doesn't take much to catch some e-coli there.
05:12 AM XXCoder: my guts sometimes dont work. had to hold in for 2 minutes. felt like hours lol
05:12 AM XXCoder: thankfully i made it to store without too much mess
05:13 AM XXCoder: but it was 30 minutes of suffering and pain before that
05:14 AM XXCoder: just in case you thought it was 2 minutes ;)
05:14 AM pink_vampire|2: cad https://i.imgur.com/EMrbzQi.png
05:14 AM miss0r: I had a nasty trip once.. only 25minuts of driving or so, that very nearly ended very poorly for the car interior. I told that story to a friend of mine, which resulted in me getting an 'emergency pack' for my next birthday after that. It included a black bucket, a roll of toilet paper and a fresh pair of underpants, with a note on it that said I should keep this pack in the car at all times, just in case... Thanks guys :D
05:15 AM miss0r: hehe indeed
05:15 AM pink_vampire|2: done https://i.imgur.com/lbATnXg.png
05:15 AM XXCoder: that looks great!
05:15 AM pink_vampire|2 is now known as pink_vampire
05:15 AM miss0r: pink_vampire|2: Something you are building?
05:16 AM pink_vampire: miss0r: ?
05:16 AM XXCoder: mis when i was going to college, i always had shorts or pants and a underwear in my car
05:16 AM XXCoder: thankfully, because one time I didnt make it to restroom from classroom
05:16 AM miss0r: pink_vampire: The link: Is it an upcomming project of yours?
05:16 AM miss0r: XXCoder: *sigh*... shit happens, you know ;)
05:16 AM XXCoder: to this day I wonder if people noticed I changed from pants to shorts... in deep winter with snow around
05:16 AM pink_vampire: look here https://i.imgur.com/lbATnXg.png
05:17 AM miss0r: pink_vampire: Did you make that?
05:17 AM XXCoder: you bought that thingy and built the blade on left side and base?
05:17 AM XXCoder: errm just noticed. how do you know when its at same position again?
05:18 AM XXCoder: (stylus)
05:18 AM pink_vampire: no, I just bought a cobalt 9/64" drill, all the other stuff was leftovers / scrap in my home
05:20 AM XXCoder: lol ok
05:20 AM XXCoder: does stylus click or something when it returns to zero again?
05:21 AM pink_vampire: the display come from the G0704 quill dro, the base is some stainless that I had here, the 2 parts to hold the tip made from 2024-t3 from the scrap bin
05:22 AM pink_vampire: there is 16 ball bearings on the part that connect to the meter, so you can move it in 22.5 deg increments
05:23 AM XXCoder: be back in a bit
05:23 AM pink_vampire: the other part have just holes https://i.imgur.com/fPPsogk.png
05:25 AM XXCoder: ahh so its fixed
05:25 AM pink_vampire: the ball bearings are attached to the back part https://i.imgur.com/L7aSvk6.png
05:26 AM pink_vampire: yes, you open the big gray thumb screw, set the angle in 22.5 deg increments, and lock it.
05:26 AM XXCoder: nice
05:27 AM pink_vampire: I think it look nice
05:28 AM XXCoder: agreed
05:32 AM pink_vampire: now I need to make a tip for a scriber, I have a renishaw tip that can work fine for that, but it is originally design to measure threads. so I need a better idea
05:43 AM * Loetmichel does M2 and M2.5 regulrarily with a battery drill
05:44 AM Loetmichel: no problem if you have a bit of dextirety in your "trigger finger", pink_vampire
05:48 AM pink_vampire: what tap are you using?
05:49 AM pink_vampire: is that a forming tap or cutting tap?
05:49 AM pink_vampire: Loetmichel: ^
05:54 AM XXCoder: ugh hate high humid days lol
05:55 AM XXCoder: hard to get dry
05:58 AM Loetmichel: cutting rap, one piece, for machine blind holes
05:59 AM Loetmichel: tap
05:59 AM pink_vampire: link? pic?
05:59 AM pink_vampire: mine is some cheap thing from ebay
06:05 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=3031&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:05 AM Loetmichel: right one, just smaller
06:06 AM pink_vampire: I have something similar for M3 and up.
06:09 AM Loetmichel: Völkel Germany 37716 M2 Iso2 HSSE
06:09 AM Loetmichel: and
06:09 AM Loetmichel: Völkel Germany 37722 M2,5 Iso2 HSSE
06:10 AM Loetmichel: says my magnifying glass
06:10 AM pink_vampire: I'm looking in their website
06:10 AM Loetmichel: @ pink_vampire
06:10 AM pink_vampire: they have very nice stuff
06:12 AM Loetmichel: admittedly: the M2 needs a steady hand if you want to hammer it in with a battery dril inn second gear. and LOADS of Isopropanol :-)
06:23 AM pink_vampire: good luck find IP right now
06:38 AM Tom_L: morning
06:38 AM pink_vampire: hi Tom_L
06:41 AM pink_vampire: very cool tool holder on 12:14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbgJpF1KoEI
06:56 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: I mucked up. Most inverters do NOT accept 16.8V, not even the 12/24 ones. But, I think I found a work around for that, just have to order some stuff and test it out first.
08:09 AM dirty_d: why is that tool holder the way that it is?
08:22 AM pink_vampire: ?
08:22 AM pink_vampire: what tool holder?
08:22 AM pink_vampire: dirty_d: ?
08:22 AM dirty_d: it has an upside down U shape in it
08:24 AM howto: hi Tom_L
08:25 AM howto: do you still need hal file from a fresh install of the distro or we can skip that?
08:25 AM howto: and ini
08:25 AM howto: ?
08:26 AM howto: i didnt give it the stepconf file fearing that i will ruin everything again
08:27 AM howto: so how do I proceed from a fresh brand new installation of the linux cnc OS distro that I installed?
08:30 AM howto: ooh and because i let it rot for an year without moving it i was about to loose some axles to rust.
08:40 AM howto: Going back to the distro to fiddle with it and break it again.
08:51 AM * Loetmichel just soldered a plug back onto a HDMI extension cable because wires broke in the plug when i bent it 180°... With the help of the stereo microscope... maan, a few years ago that was "just put off the glasses, works fine"... how bad should that be when i have to solder a microHDMI plug?
08:58 AM pink_vampire: sounds like my lvds story
08:59 AM pink_vampire: any idea how to glue back a ruby tip to the shaft?
09:09 AM pink_vampire: https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tnpla/00551713
09:10 AM pink_vampire: I have the same one
09:10 AM pink_vampire: but I need to glue the disc back to the shaft
09:19 AM pink_vampire: hi howto
09:19 AM howto: guess what people...I fiddled with the brand new linuxcnc distro..and I DIDNT break it for a change:)))
09:20 AM howto: hi pink_vampire
09:20 AM pink_vampire: what distro?
09:20 AM howto: i selected cooltool from linuxcnc configurator but...nothing happens when i try to move the axles of the machine
09:21 AM pink_vampire: linuxcnc configurator?!
09:22 AM howto: pink_vampire have you by any chance configured a step four basic 540?
09:22 AM howto: because if you did you can help a rother out here :)))
09:22 AM pink_vampire: I'm using step direction with G320x
09:23 AM howto: on a step four basic 540
09:23 AM howto: ?
09:23 AM pink_vampire: I"m using dual parallel port to send step / dir signal to the drivers.
09:24 AM howto: pink_vampire i am using the sf-c2 4633...the one that comes with the machine
09:24 AM howto: i am just trying to make it work for once
09:24 AM pink_vampire: is that the driver?
09:25 AM howto: i guess...in it goes the parallel cable and from it comes two db9 cales to the cnc machine A and C cable
09:26 AM pink_vampire: how the machine is connected to the computer?
09:27 AM pink_vampire: using parallel port or mesa card?
09:27 AM howto: i am thinking to feed it the stepconf file concocted with IchGucksLive one year ago and see what happens :)) but if i ruin everything...i am back to square one installing everything again :(
09:27 AM howto: it uses a parallel port from a docking station...i am running from a dell precision m6600
09:28 AM howto: yeah i know laptop no good for cnc...lets skip that part for now:)))
09:28 AM pink_vampire: ok, so if this is a para port
09:28 AM howto: i just what to see the machine execute one square move with the axles
09:29 AM howto: yep a para port
09:29 AM pink_vampire: I just need to know what drivers do you have
09:29 AM pink_vampire: is that something that get step / dir?
09:30 AM howto: pink_vampire from the live cd if i feed the step conf file i can diagnose the axles and they work fine
09:30 AM howto: is the sf-c2 driver that comes with the basic 540 machine
09:31 AM pink_vampire: can you backup the linuxcnc folder from the livecd after you do the configuration?
09:31 AM pink_vampire: it is /home/user/linuxcnc
09:32 AM howto: i guess not...even if i tell it to save the session it does not...but on the installed version it backs up fine
09:32 AM howto: how do i proceed after i selected the cool tool basic 540 3 axis from linuxcnc configurator?
09:33 AM howto: my gues would be the stepconf configuration
09:33 AM howto: or hal? or ini?
09:33 AM howto: but i suspect that hal and ini are configured when i selected cool tool basic 540 fom the configurator is it not?
09:33 AM pink_vampire: if it is just basic 3 axis machine, you can be done with the setup using stepconf,
09:34 AM pink_vampire: did it worked before?
09:35 AM howto: so i should just give the installation the stepconf file i made with the help of IchGucksLive and be done with it?
09:35 AM pink_vampire: if it is something that worked before and you have the .hal and the .ini file you can just use them
09:36 AM howto: i fear i ruin everything until this point :))
09:36 AM pink_vampire: howto: see PM
09:37 AM howto: yeah but that installtion was made erroneous on top of this ubuntu i am writting these messages
09:37 AM pink_vampire: why are you using ubuntu?
09:38 AM howto: was using it
09:39 AM howto: do you want me to use arch or something? :)))
09:39 AM howto: for general purpose ubuntu is good
09:39 AM howto: but for this purpose...since i came from windows...seemed not to be such a good idea
09:40 AM pink_vampire: but you need to install the realtime kernel
10:39 AM veek: you guys should check out (awesome catalogue and quite polite and friendly but B2B only, unfortunately) https://www.antalis.ie/files/live/sites/UK_Antalis/files/Information%20Centre/Packaging_Literature/UK%20Packaging%20Antalis%20Catalogue_low.pdf
11:08 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYtzKrAO7e4&feature=youtu.be
11:15 AM jymmmm: JT-Cave: I was waiting for the log to roll on him, then it just ended
11:18 AM pink_vampire: JT-Cave: is that you ?
11:19 AM JT-Cave: yes
11:20 AM JT-Cave: Don put the phone down to help me shorten the chain
11:28 AM pink_vampire: what are you making with it?
12:34 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you just need a log roller for that !
01:17 PM Tom_L: not that big :)
01:18 PM Tom_L: looks like you should get some nice lumber from that
01:21 PM JT-Shop: each quarter will start out with a 12" wide board and each cut they get smaller as I'm going to quarter saw it
01:30 PM pink_vampire: xxoxx: ?
03:04 PM unterhaus_: the other day riding my bike on the forest roads, I found an open swiss army knife.
03:05 PM unterhaus_: not sure if it would cut a tire if someone hit it
03:06 PM unterhaus_: I don't usually stop for stuff, but when I realized it was open, I went back and got it
03:25 PM perry_j1987: hows it going guys
03:46 PM JT-Shop: hanging up chicken signs while the VMC runs a part
03:54 PM Tom_L: chicken crossing?
03:59 PM Deejay: gn8
03:59 PM JT-Shop: my daughter sent me one that says wake up mother cluckers
04:00 PM JT-Shop: I guess I'll fill out the census...
04:06 PM perry_j1987: thats pretty impressive you taught them to read signs JT-Shop :)
04:08 PM JT-Shop: hey they have internet and music too
04:12 PM perry_j1987: let me guess... the chicken dance? :P
04:13 PM perry_j1987: ba da bada ba da bah... ba da bada da da bah .. da da da da da
04:13 PM perry_j1987: lol
04:14 PM JT-Shop: the funky chicken
04:33 PM * JT-Shop wonders why the VMC is cutting air now
04:35 PM * Tom_L wonders who the programmer was
04:46 PM methods_: everyone knows those machines just do whatever they want
04:47 PM methods_: i can't count how many operators have told me that, so it must be true
04:47 PM methods_: "i don't know why it did that, i just hit the start button"
05:08 PM CaptHindsight: https://images.craigslist.org/00k0k_ffczuE5NkBY_1200x900.jpg what is a fair price for this?
05:08 PM * JT-Shop notices he is already 1/2 hour into overtime 4:30 to 4:30 is a long enough day
05:09 PM CaptHindsight: cold stamping machine with a curved base
05:09 PM * jymmmm lol @ JT-Shop
05:10 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: $300
05:10 PM jymmmm: so says the tag
05:11 PM CaptHindsight: oh i thought that was just for the tag
05:11 PM jymmmm: Has anyone ever found the perfect place for all that "stuff" that collects on the workbench that you don't really know what/where to do with?
05:12 PM Tom_L: yup
05:12 PM Tom_L: every so often i drag the trash can over to the bench and scoooooop
05:12 PM jymmmm: no no, not trash, just little random things
05:13 PM Tom_L: ahhh those....
05:13 PM Tom_L: what's wrong with where theyre at
05:13 PM jymmmm: no workbench anymore
05:13 PM Tom_L: build another one
05:13 PM jymmmm: no more room
05:16 PM Tom_L: as long as it doesn't reach 'hoarder' status, put it in a box and label it
05:19 PM jymmmm: There's the problem, that is what I have been doing. We're beyond that now
05:22 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, just do what jt did. build another shop then another then....
05:23 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: I wish. I"m already starting to empty and throw out boxes to get more room
07:21 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: opto fet modules https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000002811175.html
07:24 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Here ya go... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32948644551.html
07:38 PM perry_j1987: g'evening
07:42 PM jymmmm: Oh this looks deliciously evil https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000038915963.html
07:51 PM Tom_L: ok, that's done.
07:51 PM Tom_L: had to drain the 80gal compressor tank and take the valve off the bottom and unplug it and drain the water out
07:52 PM Tom_L: ~3 gal
07:52 PM Tom_L: aparently i forgot to do that for a while
07:53 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Yum, sludge
07:54 PM Tom_L: not very much
07:55 PM Tom_L: just around the pipe then the water was fairly clean
07:55 PM jymmmm: ah
07:55 PM Tom_L: don't think i'd drink it...
07:55 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: did you see the links I posted?
07:55 PM Tom_L: yeah
07:56 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: k
07:56 PM Tom_L: what's the 'igniter' for?
07:56 PM jymmmm: I think I kinda like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33049870024.html
07:57 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: IDK, but maybe attach a IR motion sensor and ZAP?
07:57 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: IS that what you think it's really for? igniter?
07:58 PM Tom_L: no clue
08:00 PM jymmmm: Well, that's less evil then, but no automagical lighting, just paperless matches
08:08 PM Rab: Interesting to see at HD: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Drill-America-3-4-in-x-1-2-in-Shank-High-Speed-Steel-End-Mill-Specialty-Bit-with-4-Flute-DWCF326/306953648
08:14 PM jymmmm: Rab: and this too https://www.homedepot.com/p/Drill-America-1-in-x-1-2-in-Shank-High-Speed-Steel-End-Mill-Specialty-Bit-with-4-Flute-DWCF339/306953641
08:15 PM jymmmm: oh, it's an online only thing
08:15 PM Rab: yeah
08:30 PM jymmmm: Got magnets? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-Magnetic-Wire-Pulling-System-SRS56037/206826202
08:34 PM Tom_L: so instead of drilling a 1/4" hole or so for a 'low voltage' wire you gotta drill a 2-3" hole to insert that thing
08:38 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: exactly
08:39 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: but even with a 1/4" hole, you still have to feed it
08:39 PM Tom_L: i use an electrical snake
08:39 PM jymmmm: a live snake might be easier
08:40 PM Tom_L: most of the areas i would need to run wire i've alreayd put a nylon string to feed the snake thru
08:43 PM roycroft: how big is the conduit?
08:44 PM Tom_L: some is 1" some is 2.5
08:44 PM roycroft: 1" can be a bit tight
08:44 PM Tom_L: 2.5 to the garage iirc x 2
08:44 PM Tom_L: not all of it is conduit
08:44 PM roycroft: for the 2-1/2", assuming no sharp bends, you can blow a mule tape in with a puck and compressed air
08:45 PM roycroft: that's how we do it for fiber pulls
08:45 PM Tom_L: not if it's already got stuff in it
08:45 PM roycroft: oh
08:45 PM roycroft: if it has stuff in it already it should also have mule tape in it already :)
08:45 PM roycroft: if not, it may not be a fun project
08:45 PM Tom_L: like i said, i ran nylon string all over the place
08:45 PM roycroft: so you're good to go
08:46 PM roycroft: pull another mule tape when you do the cable pull
08:46 PM * roycroft is not suggesting tom_l doesn't get this, but he is flabbergasted at how many people not only do not get it, but refuse to do it when told they should
08:46 PM roycroft: i'm dealing with this right now
08:46 PM roycroft: folks are paying big bucks for a conduit run inside a building
08:47 PM roycroft: for two strands of fiber
08:47 PM roycroft: i told them to be sure to pull mule tape with the fiber pull, so that in the future they can pull more
08:47 PM roycroft: which will add like $50 to the cost of the project
08:47 PM roycroft: but they said "we won't need to ever pull more fiber"
08:47 PM roycroft: and won't pull the mule tape
08:47 PM roycroft: these are professional network folks
08:48 PM roycroft: of course, the real reason is "but in the future, when we need more fiber, if there's mule tape already it will be too easy, and we won't be able to bill thousands of dollars for the second fiber pull"
08:48 PM Tom_L: no they're just network folks
08:48 PM roycroft: they have certs
08:48 PM roycroft: and make their living doing network stuff
08:48 PM roycroft: that classifies them as professional
08:49 PM roycroft: demeans the meaning of the word professional, i'll agree
08:49 PM Tom_L: mkay
08:49 PM roycroft: "idiots" is probably a more apt term
08:50 PM Rab: How does the customer know if there's mule tape or not? Bill them anyway!
08:50 PM roycroft: that happens a lot
08:50 PM roycroft: this is why i'm not a millionaire
08:50 PM roycroft: i am too honest
08:50 PM Tom_L: if they're savvy they'll look for one
08:50 PM roycroft: and when a customer pays me to look out for the customer's best interest i actually look out for the customer's best interest
09:32 PM skunkworks: any tips for running fiber in a building?
09:33 PM perry_j1987: skunkworks dont mess up
09:33 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Install wire guides
09:33 PM perry_j1987: :)
09:34 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: I'd run hundreds of lines in the datacenter
09:34 PM skunkworks: longest run is about 200m
09:35 PM jymmmm: 300m for me
09:35 PM veegee: Can I use my cat as a pillow?
09:36 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Most IMPORTANT tip.... Dont allow the lines to get twisted in the bundle
09:36 PM skunkworks: that must be a no..
09:36 PM veegee: She's so soft and fluffy and cuddly
09:36 PM skunkworks: the maintenence department is probably running it with supervision...
09:36 PM veegee: Or would my head be too heavy?
09:37 PM skunkworks: jymmmm: I was planning on making a bundle with a cat6a with each directional run..
09:37 PM veegee: skunkworks multi mode right?
09:37 PM skunkworks: eys
09:37 PM veegee: don't even bother with copper
09:37 PM skunkworks: yes
09:37 PM veegee: just go fiber
09:37 PM perry_j1987: so im designing my first fixture. im going to use mitee bite uniforce clamps to hold lengths of bar stock and slot out individual pieces. then im thinking if i make a backer plate with dowel pins that slide up through precision reamed holes in the fixture i can turn the whole thing into a milling fixture too.
09:37 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Cause when that client moves out, you have to go back and pull out the drops, if they're twisted, you'll spend hours getting them out
09:37 PM veegee: I run fiber only in the office
09:37 PM veegee: even directly to the workstations
09:38 PM skunkworks: I was thinking that the cat6 would help with not breaking the fiber..
09:38 PM veegee: 10GBase-SR, fibrechannel
09:38 PM veegee: skunkworks you can get tougher fiber. Check fs.com
09:38 PM veegee: There's armoured fiber and stuff that's even rodent chew resistant
09:39 PM veegee: Best of all, OM4 is cheaper than Cat 6a
09:40 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: In your home?
09:40 PM veegee: transceivers are lower latency too, no disadvantage
09:40 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: you running video too?
09:41 PM skunkworks: work. we have a very old network.. Trying to get some 10gbase to a bunch of the switches.
09:41 PM veegee: Yeah, run lots of strands of OM4
09:41 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: pull TWO lines, especially if long
09:42 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: ... per drop
09:42 PM skunkworks: jymmmm: yes - that is exactly what we are planning
09:42 PM skunkworks: atleast
09:42 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Do you think they'll do any inhouse video conferencing?
09:43 PM veegee: Why would that matter?
09:44 PM skunkworks: jymmmm: probably not..
09:44 PM skunkworks: and what veegee asked...
09:44 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: so no conf room?
09:45 PM skunkworks: the conference room is right above the server room - so not a problem :)
09:45 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: But any projector that might be mounted on the ceiling needs cbaling too. 2x for HDMI + network
09:46 PM skunkworks: This all came about because we finally have a 2nd internet connection.. which is half way across the plant.
09:46 PM skunkworks: (phone enterence)
09:47 PM skunkworks: (and we are still running pbx...)
09:48 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: fun.... NOT!
09:49 PM skunkworks: Right?
09:49 PM skunkworks: can't wait to play with it - fiber 100mbs symetrical.
09:50 PM skunkworks: (that is exciting for around here)
09:50 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Then get yourself a newsgroup account =)
09:51 PM skunkworks: what about AOL - I heard it was good?
09:51 PM skunkworks: Compuserve?
09:52 PM veegee: skunkworks I have gigabit symmetrical to my home
09:52 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Just a ng acnt is all you'll need, oh and TB's of storage =
09:52 PM veegee: and office, unlimited data
09:52 PM veegee: < $100/month
09:53 PM skunkworks: well - we approached the phone company and asked about getting internet through them - they said sure! We will run fiber and give you internet for no more money than you are paying now.
09:54 PM veegee: how much are you paying now?
09:54 PM skunkworks: at that point i thought - boy - we must be paying too much for our phone service.
09:54 PM skunkworks: they ran the fiber from about a mile away... in the winter..
09:55 PM jymmmm: skunkworks: Now, just switch over to VOIP =)
09:55 PM skunkworks: that is the 10 year plan
09:55 PM veegee: yup
09:55 PM veegee: the profits they are making is obscene
09:56 PM skunkworks: it does open up atleast 2 T1 lines for them..
10:21 PM perry_j1987: get it all done just in time for elon's starlink to give you service heh
