12:29 AM pink_vampire: anyone know a nice chart for metric stock diameter for making screws with a die?
12:34 AM pink_vampire: I tested 3 M3 screws here and I got 2.97 2.92 and 2.90 mm
12:34 AM pink_vampire: for the major diameter.
12:37 AM pink_vampire: I need for M3
12:37 AM pink_vampire: I'm trying to make a thumb screw
12:39 AM HillDaddyMe: usually (80% of major - root) + root
12:39 AM pink_vampire: root
12:39 AM pink_vampire: ?
12:39 AM XXCoder: so 0.8(m-r) + r\
12:39 AM XXCoder: ?
12:39 AM HillDaddyMe: minor
12:40 AM pink_vampire: I have no idea
12:40 AM pink_vampire: the drill size is 2.5, and the major is maybe 3?
12:41 AM XXCoder: look at tap bores table
12:41 AM XXCoder: http://www.carbidedepot.com/formulas-tap-metric.htm
12:42 AM XXCoder: for m3, 3mm major minor 2.5mm
12:42 AM XXCoder: so thats 0.8(3-2.5) + 2.5
12:42 AM HillDaddyMe: 0.8(major dia - minor dia) + minor
12:42 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: but I need to make a screw, so I need the size of the rod diameter
12:42 AM HillDaddyMe: yes
12:42 AM XXCoder: math above is for bolt diameter yeah
12:42 AM pink_vampire: 0.8(3-2.5) + 2.5 = 2.9
12:43 AM XXCoder: yeah
12:43 AM pink_vampire: I think I will do it 2.95, and if it will go hard on the die I will touch it with a file
12:43 AM XXCoder: thats smaller than major diameter so after its tapper it will go in fine.
12:44 AM XXCoder: yeah there is grades
12:44 AM XXCoder: % changes with that
12:44 AM XXCoder: nm on that
12:44 AM XXCoder: https://lightningboltandsupply.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/strength-of-grade-8-bolts-1024x719.jpg
12:45 AM HillDaddyMe: as long as you have at least 75% thread strength is not comprimised.
12:45 AM pink_vampire: it is going to be the screw that lock the height gauge
12:45 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/FFCcGTO.png
12:46 AM pink_vampire: you see, it is missing a thumb screw
12:46 AM XXCoder: threading bolt will be bit harder if using die and not tool to make thread
12:46 AM XXCoder: so careful
12:48 AM pink_vampire: I need about 10.5mm length of thread
12:48 AM pink_vampire: and I'm doing that on the mill.
12:48 AM pink_vampire: I don't have the tool post for the tale yet or and decent tools
12:48 AM pink_vampire: lathe*
12:52 AM XXCoder: cool :)
12:52 AM XXCoder: you can do far more than I can
12:53 AM pink_vampire: it is stainless
12:53 AM pink_vampire: let me take a pic of the poor lady swiss machine
12:55 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/flCfleO.png
12:57 AM HillDaddyMe: nice lathe, can see the difficulty running threads.
12:57 AM XXCoder: lol
12:58 AM XXCoder: sometimes gonna do what you gonna do
12:58 AM pink_vampire: HillDaddyMe: LOL those are the threads from the 10-32 screw, that I'm removing to make it M3 screw with large head
12:59 AM HillDaddyMe: i cut the bore on my cnc spindle in a similar manor.
01:01 AM pink_vampire: the taper?
01:02 AM HillDaddyMe: i made my spindle, mounted it, powered it up, then cut my bore and iso30 taper on the machine.
01:04 AM pink_vampire: if you want the OD to become smaller, just press harder on the caliper.
01:04 AM XXCoder: reworking spindle eh
01:05 AM XXCoder: toolholders will be closer but still workable. limit is when toolholders bottom out. you would nbeed to replace it by then
01:05 AM XXCoder: one of machines at work recently had it done. it runs very hard metals constantly, so taper inside was slowly flaring out
01:06 AM XXCoder: guy had to find z again due to this
01:06 AM HillDaddyMe: nah made it from scratch.
01:06 AM XXCoder: ahh cool
01:07 AM pink_vampire: HillDaddyMe: pics pics pics we want pics
01:08 AM HillDaddyMe: i don't have any pic's didnt think of taking any during the build. i'm not at my shop right now.
01:10 AM HillDaddyMe: i don't have a xtube nature
01:16 AM pink_vampire: xtube?
01:17 AM XXCoder: soft porn tube?
01:23 AM HillDaddyMe: how is the easiest way to share pics. sorry have not been using irc long
01:23 AM XXCoder: imgur
01:23 AM XXCoder: you dont even need to make account
01:26 AM HillDaddyMe: https://imgur.com/a/IIrpY5k
01:26 AM HillDaddyMe: this is some of my work
01:26 AM XXCoder: bike shop eh
01:26 AM XXCoder: or.... chop shop? ;)
01:26 AM HillDaddyMe: i just do the machine work.
01:27 AM HillDaddyMe: 32" front custom cut rear 14" wide custom cut.
01:27 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/FTfKVhu.png
01:28 AM pink_vampire: I think it is a win!
01:28 AM XXCoder: nice
01:28 AM XXCoder: how well does it thread in?
01:28 AM pink_vampire: like any normal M3 screw
01:28 AM XXCoder: nice
01:29 AM HillDaddyMe: other parts also oil cooler mounts and so on..
01:29 AM XXCoder: i work as production machinist
01:29 AM XXCoder: no pictures
01:31 AM HillDaddyMe: i work for these guy as a second job.i am a control specialist now.still like making cool stuff.
01:50 AM Deejay: moin
02:31 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: https://i.imgur.com/vdq29GD.png
02:31 AM XXCoder: nice
02:31 AM XXCoder: tapping stuff eh
02:31 AM pink_vampire: making the hole for the locking screw
02:32 AM pink_vampire: it is hard stuff, but I was able to tap it
02:35 AM pink_vampire: also Tolsen drills from china - AMAZING DRILLS!
02:36 AM XXCoder: nice
02:37 AM pink_vampire: not very true for the diameter, but very sharp and drill very nice
05:08 AM veegee: Regarding the air tank drain noise issue: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003Q6CBKM/
05:08 AM veegee: This insta solved my problem
05:09 AM XXCoder: nice
05:09 AM veegee: Nothing inside there corrodes, and it lets the water out nicely
05:09 AM XXCoder: also how you like this channel so far? heh
05:09 AM veegee: Well I've been on here for months now and I'm still here
05:10 AM XXCoder: thats good. knew you would like here heh
05:10 AM veegee: It's not toxic, it's helpful and productive, and lot of general knowledge to share
05:10 AM XXCoder: yep
05:10 AM XXCoder: i font stay in channel that has toxic people
05:12 AM veegee: I want to upgrade to the high pressure argon tanks with the CGA 680 connectors. Those tanks have a pressure of about 5,000 PSI and since refills are the most expensive part, this gives me the most gas for the money
05:13 AM veegee: The containers are smaller and the total mass of gas they contain is the greatest of all cylinders. But you need a CGA 680 high pressure regulator. The company I'm getting the cylinder from (airliquide) sells them, but they're pretty expensive
05:14 AM veegee: This one: https://www.airliquide.ca/regulator-dual-flowmeter-inert-gas-single-stage-0-30l-min-0-70scfh-heavy-duty-cga-680/product/A0359003?skuRepositoryId=A0359003
05:14 AM veegee: Or this one: https://www.airliquide.ca/regulator-flowmeter-inert-gas-single-stage-0-30l-min-0-70scfh-heavy-duty-cga-680/product/A0359030?skuRepositoryId=A0359030
05:15 AM veegee: I'm using argon for more than just welding. It's very good for soldering and brazing and things like that
05:15 AM XXCoder: interesting. I wonder how agron refller people get gas
05:15 AM veegee: airliquide is huge. They have liquid argon in cryogenic tanks
05:15 AM veegee: I bet they distill it themselves
05:15 AM miss0r: g'day
05:16 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder:its freeze extracted from the athmosphere and then distilled
05:16 AM veegee: Is the $270 CGA680 regulator worth it?
05:16 AM XXCoder: so from air distillery again
05:16 AM Loetmichel: about 0.5% of it is argon. thats quite an unlimited supply
05:16 AM XXCoder: yeah we got a LOT of air
05:17 AM veegee: they screw you on the refills
05:17 AM veegee: that's why I'm going for the biggest tank there is
05:17 AM veegee: and the highest pressure
05:18 AM veegee: Then I can buy a couple of extra regular low pressure tanks and refill those myself
05:18 AM XXCoder: I bet its bit hard to get argon by distillery. nitrogen however...
05:18 AM XXCoder: your plan do sound good
05:19 AM veegee: Damn, they're all closed on weekends
05:19 AM miss0r: Anyone up to anything interresting?
05:19 AM veegee: But I have enough for this weekend
05:19 AM XXCoder: not me
05:19 AM XXCoder: plague make things "fun"
05:19 AM veegee: miss0r I just finished making an automatic oil pump and filter for my air compressor
05:19 AM veegee: It separates the water from the crankcase oil and runs it through an automotive filter
05:20 AM miss0r: nice
05:20 AM veegee: IT's a DeVilbiss 447 pump hooked up to a 120 gallon tank
05:20 AM miss0r: that is pretty sizeable :D
05:20 AM miss0r: Why are you getting water in the crank?
05:20 AM veegee: It can easily put out 50 SCFM
05:21 AM veegee: I'm not really. It was only there when I first bought it
05:21 AM veegee: But the oil should still be filtered.
05:21 AM miss0r: Indeed
05:21 AM miss0r: makes for a longer lasting product, no doubt
05:21 AM veegee: Even without all that, these last decades and I bought it used from someone who followed maintenance
05:22 AM veegee: But then it sat in a garage for a while. i assume that's when it collecgted water in the crankcase, but that wasn't a big deal
05:22 AM miss0r: Hmm. Usualy water in the crank means a bad breather somewhere
05:22 AM veegee: It's not happening anymore
05:22 AM miss0r: In that case probably not :)
05:23 AM veegee: it probably collected during the period it was sitting in storage, waiting to be sold
05:23 AM miss0r: quite possible, especially if the place it was stored wasn't heated
05:23 AM veegee: unheated garage
05:23 AM miss0r: indeed ;)
05:23 AM veegee: no big deal, it works perfectly now and I got an excellent deal
05:23 AM miss0r: Nice
05:24 AM miss0r: I use one of those off the shelf brands
05:24 AM veegee: I find any store bought unit can never keep up
05:24 AM veegee: This monster can pump more than you can use
05:24 AM miss0r: I can't remember what it is called now.. But its one of those cheap generic ones that finds it suitable to label their products "professional".
05:24 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:24 AM miss0r: morning JT
05:24 AM veegee: It also sounds beautiful
05:24 AM veegee: Huge overbuilt cast iron two stage pump
05:25 AM XXCoder: hey super awesome guy
05:25 AM miss0r: hehe. I keep mine in an insulated box in the shed next to the shop. I only ever use mine for the three air guns I have in the shop
05:25 AM veegee: It sounds like a low revving quiet diesel
05:25 AM miss0r: that is sweet
05:25 AM miss0r: if I ever need alot of air, I will go with a screw compressor
05:25 AM veegee: I run my lines at 200 psi
05:26 AM miss0r: My dad has one in his shop, and that thing is silent
05:26 AM miss0r: thats alot...
05:26 AM veegee: Makes for easy distribution. Put regulators near the tools and it'll never be starved for air
05:26 AM miss0r: I only run 110 ish
05:26 AM veegee: 200psi carries twice the mass of air
05:26 AM miss0r: but then again, the only 'tools' I use are air guns for blasting chips away
05:27 AM veegee: So any pressure drops along the supply line have no effect
05:27 AM miss0r: All the stuff on my mill is hydraulic, so it doesn't even use air
05:27 AM miss0r: that is pretty smart
05:27 AM veegee: at the regulator, it's way more than the tool ever needs.
05:27 AM miss0r: A realy good idea actualy. I'll keep that in mind for future projects indeed
05:27 AM veegee: but screw compressors don't go that high
05:28 AM veegee: just keep that in mind
05:28 AM veegee: any big piston compressor like mine can go up to 300psi
05:28 AM miss0r: the one my dad runs is rated at 175psi
05:28 AM veegee: and 100 cfm no problem
05:28 AM miss0r: Now I almost wish I had a higher demand for air :D
05:29 AM miss0r: anyway. I ALWAYS do this. I came here to clean the shop & end up chatting in here. beh. Better get to it!
05:30 AM XXCoder: lol later
05:35 AM JT-Cave: my compressor is 175 psig
05:36 AM JT-Cave: 11 chicks slept facing south and on facing north
05:36 AM JT-Cave: one facing north
05:37 AM JT-Cave: longest day of the year today
05:39 AM XXCoder: yay
05:39 AM XXCoder: i hate summer
05:39 AM XXCoder: im been dizzy 4 weeks now. look like it might be another months long one. heat will just make it worse
05:40 AM JT-Cave: yuck
05:41 AM JT-Cave: finally going to use the Alaskan chainsaw sawmill this weekend
05:44 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdIoCBzadgw
05:46 AM XXCoder: thats cool
05:47 AM XXCoder: not something id do but cool
05:47 AM JT-Cave: I'm cutting up a huge red oak that fell in my buddies front yard
05:47 AM XXCoder: is it one of those you cut it you get it free deal?
05:49 AM JT-Cave: yea all free
05:50 AM XXCoder: nice
05:50 AM XXCoder: we had to chop down old pear tree in backyard
05:50 AM XXCoder: it was endangering garage and it was half rotten
05:51 AM XXCoder: root system is growinf new ones we might keep it as is or not dunno
06:38 AM XXCoder: JT remember the mask thing? its now required with warning if people dont follow
06:38 AM XXCoder: $10,000 each person if violation found by L&I inspection ouch
06:39 AM XXCoder: allowed to remove mask if alone in area, they warned people not to walk though area being worked by a person as they would both have to put on mask to do so
06:40 AM XXCoder: if area has 2 at same time, both has to wear mask constantly.
06:41 AM XXCoder: good thing I already started so its no change for me lol
06:42 AM XXCoder: last year I'd never have imanged owning few masks, and that they would be olviously used and washed bunch of times.
06:42 AM XXCoder: is it any way similiar your area JT-Cave ?
07:00 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: i have a 3dprinted mask. obviously multi use: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17785&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
07:00 AM XXCoder: looks "fun" to use
07:26 AM JT-Shop: XXCoder, what requires that? the company or the county?
07:28 AM Loetmichel: *GNAHHHH* $Me io dumb as fu**... just assembled a 10" monitor... glued Display, filter glass, frame, touchscreen together... mounted the electronics, tested it: "Why is that picture so blurry?... AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!111111 Forgot to remove the protection film from the touch underside before glueing it on!"
07:28 AM Loetmichel: s/io/is
07:32 AM Tom_L: XXCoder, do you guys get those 'neck' masks?
07:32 AM Tom_L: they're alot more comfortable
07:36 AM JT-Cave: neck mask?
08:00 AM miss0r: I just managed to complete a quite challenging task: make room for and stash away ~75kg worth of disk cutters/gear cutters & shellmills I was handed free of charge
08:00 AM miss0r: (You don't just throw that stuff away, you could potentially get to use one or two of them during the next 30 years)
08:14 AM jymmmm: California as of 10pm last night... https://i.imgur.com/EGfqBES.png
08:20 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: Got solvent? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0819Y8PJZ
08:20 AM _unreal_: You realize the world health organization has effectively said pandemic is over
08:21 AM _unreal_: 99% of those "" cases "" are A symptomatic and A symptomatic is 100% NON transferable
08:22 AM _unreal_: Believe the lie if you feel you have to but the democrat part is is over they are dead.... there are law suits now starting to be filed everywhere.
08:24 AM _unreal_: not to mention all the rioters not being hunted by police to be forced to "" ware masks "" and its no problem. they are 90% black and live in VERY segregated white/black. and the """"" people LOL that are being tested are mostly WHITE ""
08:24 AM _unreal_: how can you have a JUMP in cases with people who DO NOT mingle
08:25 AM _unreal_: NOT possible
08:26 AM _unreal_: DID YOU KNOW that a bunch of states recently passes laws restricting corners from recording cause of death. because they where catching LOTS and LOTS of FAULSE covid causes of death.
08:26 AM _unreal_: INTERESTING ehhh
08:29 AM rmu|w: _unreal_: don't drink and chat
08:29 AM JT-Cave: lol
08:34 AM _unreal_: My entire background is nursing and bio med research
08:36 AM _unreal_: https://apnews.com/5ebc0ad45b73a899efa81f098330204c
08:36 AM Loetmichel: Jymmm: should work. One point is that SMPS dont like to work in series though... may need some additional filters.
08:37 AM _unreal_: the gov. of NY, MASS, PENN and a few other states should be tried for murder
08:39 AM Loetmichel: _unreal_: you mean: coroners are now forbidden to record a death as "corona related" because the government would look bad? Who would thought so! ;)
08:39 AM Loetmichel: +have
08:40 AM _unreal_: no
08:41 AM _unreal_: they where discovering deaths were bing reported to the STATE for the TOTALLS as covid positive cause of death and they where being delivered from hospitals and nursing homes as NON covid. they have to know if they are positive or not. to know if they have to take extra precausions when dealing with the body.
08:42 AM _unreal_: in other words the numbers are being massively falsified
08:43 AM Loetmichel: that only means that the infection didnt got caught at the nursing home or hospital. are you a "woke" person?
08:43 AM _unreal_: wron g
08:43 AM _unreal_: think about what you just siad
08:43 AM Loetmichel: (aka ignoring facts that are not fitting your narrative)
08:43 AM _unreal_: how could someone be missed if they are in a nursing home and have a major flu.
08:44 AM _unreal_: how do you miss it
08:44 AM _unreal_: O.o
08:44 AM Loetmichel: i said that coroners usually the ones are that know everything but are always late. as opposed to GPs that know nothing but pretend to do.
08:44 AM _unreal_: gps?
08:44 AM Loetmichel: general praktitioners
08:44 AM _unreal_: ahh
08:45 AM Loetmichel: aka "normal doctors"
08:45 AM _unreal_: if you are a coroner would you kind of like to know if a body that your dealing with and was known to have had a confirmed case of covid?
08:46 AM _unreal_: the new "" laws "" prevent them from knowning this now AND from recording the VERY cause of death..
08:46 AM Loetmichel: sure, doesent work if the doctors at the nursing homes or hospitals dont get it though
08:47 AM Loetmichel: easy solution though: treat 100% of the incoming bodys as covid positive
08:47 AM Loetmichel: and then sort it out later
08:47 AM _unreal_: ya...... not reasonable
08:48 AM Loetmichel: yeah, if you say so.
08:50 AM rmu|w: "covid" is the disease, ie means per definition you have symtoms
08:50 AM rmu|w: symptoms
08:50 AM _unreal_: in the end, FOCCII got payed big bucks to go from no problem to ITS MAJOR and the world is ending, he even did video interviews saying masks gloves ectc... are not needed. funny how a few weeks later he got a major book deal worth $$ millions and suddenly everyone must wear masks gloves distancing etc...
08:50 AM Loetmichel: over here in germany the only reaction to that "law" would be that the prices the coroners charge the insurances go up because "we have to treat every body as positive now". Wouldnt be long until the insurance companys would buy another politician to remove that law
08:55 AM _unreal_: regardless in about a month a lot of current and former major HEAD figures of the FBI, CIA, and other alphabets are about to be publicly indited, "the people who produced russia gate, the fake russian issue for the president"
08:56 AM Loetmichel: haha
08:56 AM Loetmichel: "fake"
08:56 AM Loetmichel: yeah, sure.
08:56 AM _unreal_: Loetmichel, What is interesting is that if you match a President election map showing all the different districts and over lay that with a CORONA virus death map
08:56 AM _unreal_: ONLY demo crats die
08:57 AM Loetmichel: oh, now we go into alu hat territory. nice.
08:57 AM _unreal_: hehe I'm not kidding
08:57 AM _unreal_: you look it up
08:57 AM Loetmichel: hint: coincidence != causality
08:57 AM rmu|w: as we all know, causation and correlation are the same thing
08:58 AM _unreal_: or the same number system used to generate the maps where used to generate the "" covid death zones"
08:59 AM _unreal_: o,O O,o o,O
08:59 AM _unreal_: well breakfast time
08:59 AM rmu|w: _unreal_: did you know that ice cream causes drowning=
08:59 AM rmu|w: ?
09:00 AM rmu|w: the rate of drowning increases sharply if ice cream sales are high
09:01 AM rmu|w: when
09:06 AM Loetmichel: rmu|w. they MAY even be causality there
09:06 AM Loetmichel: the old saying "dont swim with a full stomach" comes to mind ;)
09:06 AM Loetmichel: (of course summer time is the bigger influence)
09:12 AM jymmmm: $2400 circuit breaker?! https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/54527874
09:16 AM miss0r: Jymmm: Yeah :) That thing is with ajustable harmonic trip build in
09:24 AM miss0r: jymmmm: I have been looking for the bus bar breaker switch I told you about yesterday. Sadly I have failed to find it
09:24 AM jymmmm: miss0r: What about something lke this https://www.amazon.com/CIRCUIT-BREAKER-250VAC-OUTBACK-PNL-30-AC/dp/B072KK4THB
09:26 AM miss0r: jymmmm: It doesn't seem like that particular one is rated for DC
09:26 AM miss0r: DC is ALOT harder to disconnect than AC
09:26 AM jymmmm: https://www.altestore.com/store/enclosures-electrical-safety/overcurrent-devices-fuses-breakers/panel-mount-circuit-breakers/midnite-solar-100amp-150vdc-panel-mount-breaker-p10214/
09:27 AM jymmmm: https://www.carlingtech.com/sites/default/files/documents/C-Series_Details_%26_COS_040314.pdf
09:28 AM miss0r: the solar one will do, indeed
09:28 AM miss0r: But it does not have a build-in over current protection
09:28 AM miss0r: other than perhaps giving you smoke signals if you overload it 150%
09:29 AM jymmmm: Huh? it's a circuit breaker
09:30 AM miss0r: yeah..? :) so is a regular switch
09:30 AM miss0r: I see nowhere mentioned that it is thermal/electronic or otherwise controlled
09:31 AM jymmmm: goto page 6 in the pdf
09:33 AM miss0r: What is this referring to? The solar one?
09:33 AM jymmmm: https://www.carlingtech.com/sites/default/files/documents/C-Series_Details_%26_COS_040314.pdf pdf page 8, document page 6
09:34 AM miss0r: I can see that. But I can't figure out what former link to a breaker this document is referring to
09:35 AM miss0r: the amazon one or the altestore one?
09:35 AM jymmmm: The solar one,
09:36 AM jymmmm: or get one from the maker directly, custom ordered to your specs, bolt directly on the buss bar
09:36 AM miss0r: Well.. I don't think that PDF document is for that component
09:36 AM jymmmm: It's for C series
09:37 AM miss0r: Nothing on the solar site (as far as I can tell) can be translated to resolve that
09:37 AM miss0r: Indeed.
09:37 AM jymmmm: order for carling directly
09:37 AM miss0r: I will readily agree that you *can* get what you are after, but the one on the solar site does not seem to have a builtin overcurrent protection
09:37 AM jymmmm: order for carling directly
09:37 AM miss0r: Yes
09:37 AM jymmmm: from*
09:38 AM miss0r: That way you can get something that fits what you need exactly :)
09:38 AM miss0r: What are you building anyway? :D
09:38 AM jymmmm: and what OVER CURRENT protection do you want beyond the amperage rating?
09:39 AM jymmmm: go over !00A, it breaks.
09:39 AM jymmmm: 150A, etc
09:39 AM miss0r: The amperage rating(In the case of the one on the solar site) just specifies what amount of current the "switch" can handle. It does not protect equipment OR itself.
09:39 AM miss0r: no
09:39 AM miss0r: it melts
09:39 AM miss0r: or catch fire
09:40 AM jymmmm: huh?
09:40 AM miss0r: as far as I can tell the solar one is *ONLY* a switch. not a thermal breaker or anything like that
09:41 AM jymmmm: IT says circuit breaker
09:41 AM miss0r: so it does... I guess I am confused here. I just see no mention of the trip system, which leads me to believe it is only a switch.
09:41 AM jymmmm: Midnite Solar
09:41 AM jymmmm: Panel Mount Circuit Breaker
09:41 AM jymmmm: 100A, 150VDC Midnight’s breakers are rated to break the full rated load at the rated voltage repeatedly, with NO DAMAGE. Always use a properly sized breaker for disconnecting. All MidNite circuit breakers are rated for 100% continuous duty. 100 amp 150VDC Panel Mount Breaker, 10,000 AIC UL & CSA Listed 1/4" studs 3/4" wide
09:42 AM jymmmm: click on DETAILS
09:42 AM miss0r: Indeed. I must be confusing some english terms here. so you are telling me that "circuit breaker" absolutly means that it will trip at a given value?
09:43 AM jymmmm: yes
09:43 AM miss0r: In which case I will just shut up :]
09:43 AM miss0r: Alright then. :D
09:44 AM miss0r: Sometimes, however rarely, I hit some walls not being a native english speaker. I'm sorry that ended up costing you unnevesary time ;)
09:44 AM jymmmm: The solar website has just "private labeled" the circuit breaker, but the OEM is Carlington Switch, and the PDF is the detailed specs on the breakers they offer, including model ordering for your specic application
09:45 AM miss0r: They look to be of proper quality
09:45 AM * miss0r just wonderes about the low voltage rating for something ment for a solar panel installation..
09:45 AM miss0r: Perhaps this is ment for the battery side of things
09:45 AM jymmmm: miss0r: Read the PDF
09:47 AM miss0r: ...yeah I see what you are saying.
09:47 AM miss0r: I think I should just go order a pizza and get dumber watching some tv :D
09:48 AM jymmmm: miss0r: On the solar site, click on DOCUMENTS on that page,
09:48 AM miss0r: Those look like the design that would fit into a standard american breaker box? like the one you have in your house?
09:48 AM jymmmm: panel mount
09:49 AM miss0r: yeah but the size of it? wouldn't that fit into such an enclosure?
09:49 AM miss0r: (I don't know much about the north american breaker boxes, other than pictures I've seen)
09:50 AM jymmmm: NO BREKER BOX, panel mount
09:50 AM jymmmm: miss0r: https://www.altestore.com/static/datafiles/Others/MNEDC5-MNEDC100_Specifications.pdf
09:51 AM jymmmm: miss0r: You really need to look at these PDF's to understnd better
09:51 AM miss0r: I already have
09:51 AM miss0r: I also just looked at some more pictures of american breaker boxes to realize the components in there are *not* panel mounted, which I thought.
09:51 AM jymmmm: ah
09:52 AM miss0r: never mind.. I think that product line looks to be of nice quality
09:52 AM miss0r: I think I will probably inforporate those in future projects. I realy like the look of it
09:53 AM miss0r: and I think I like the feel of it(based on the look) :D
09:53 AM jymmmm: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-5pcs-Carling-Tech-CA1-B0-12-690-321-C-Circuit-Breakers-100-A-ONE-POLE/264524342492
09:55 AM jymmmm: miss0r: I was looking at a bunch of the types of circuit breakers we talked abut yesterday, they are all crap quality with no certs on them. That's when I found carlington
09:55 AM miss0r: Yup. I don't understand what carlington means by current type '34'
09:55 AM jymmmm: where do you see that?
09:55 AM miss0r: DC 50/60hz
09:56 AM miss0r: ahh never mind.
09:56 AM miss0r: That was on the photo, not the headline
09:57 AM jymmmm: dc motor control?
09:57 AM jymmmm: IDK
09:57 AM jymmmm: PWM maybe?
09:57 AM miss0r: Maybe
09:58 AM miss0r: Also, the breaker is rated for 90 amps - not the 100 they write on ebay
09:59 AM miss0r: hehe, you can even read it on the label of the breaker they have a photo of.
10:01 AM jymmmm: probably stock photo
10:01 AM miss0r: the item description lists a product code that translates to 90 amps as well
10:01 AM Rab: If you're buying breakers from eBay, look for any signs of use. Breakers do have a finite service life and will wear out. Those Carling breakers are allegedly "New - Open box", which could mean that they were replaced on a regular service schedule, the old breakers were tossed back in the box, and riversidemfg got a good surplus deal of boxes of "new" breakers.
10:02 AM Rab: (Having said that, they're *probably* brand new and *probably* just fine.)
10:02 AM miss0r: :D
10:04 AM Rab: And looking more closely at that breaker, it seems to be a permanently wired type and not likely to be pulled from equipment. Just sayin'. ;)
10:10 AM jymmmm: Rab: Sadly, I don't need 5
10:12 AM Rab: Not yet you don't!
10:13 AM _unreal_: I hate tracing down errors? not sure why my relay is not energizing
10:14 AM _unreal_: I wanted to power test my servo psu but I cant get the RELAY to turn on.
10:15 AM _unreal_: I have 3 of these relays and the other 2 I setup as mirror setups worked just fine
10:15 AM _unreal_: sign
10:15 AM _unreal_: sigh
10:17 AM jymmmm: Rab: LOL, true. Plus I'm guessing t doens't come with mouting hardware
10:23 AM jymmmm: miss0r: I'm making a battery
10:38 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:39 AM perry_j1987: why did i wear flipflops to the shop this morning.. ugh
10:39 AM Deejay: re
10:39 AM perry_j1987: chips in my toes now
10:40 AM skunkworks: should have socks with your flip flops..
10:40 AM Rab: MRIs are boring, in my experience. You will need some excitement.
10:40 AM perry_j1987: easier to blow off the feet with air compressor i guess lol
10:40 AM perry_j1987: vs socks
10:43 AM perry_j1987: i should put up some sort of chip shield for this thing
10:43 AM perry_j1987: keep the floor cleaner
10:57 AM _unreal_: ok not sure where my error is... I have these https://cdn.sos.sk/productdata/61/2a/8c2cd9a7/moc-3041.pdf
10:57 AM _unreal_: I'm trying to drive them with a 5v signal
10:59 AM _unreal_: I have a 270 ohm resistor inline
11:02 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, what are you driving with those?
11:04 AM howto: good day people
11:06 AM howto: i downloaded latest linux cnc wheeezy distro and i imported a settings file built long time ago on this chat with the help of a fellow.
11:06 AM howto: the problem i am having is...
11:07 AM howto: when i start axis whitout any configuration file...starts fine....when i try to start it after giving linuxcnc the stepconf file...it gives me about 75 kb of errors and doesnt start
11:08 AM howto: the test for themachine axis works fine...i can move each of the axis manualy
11:08 AM perry_j1987: i love threadmilling
11:08 AM Tom_L: perry_j1987, yes
11:09 AM Tom_L: it's kinda fun ehh?
11:09 AM howto: the cnc i am working with is step four basic 540
11:09 AM perry_j1987: one of the great joys in life lol
11:09 AM Tom_L: i snapped one getting my macro right in the very beginning...
11:09 AM Tom_L: but since then it's fantastic
11:10 AM perry_j1987: you helped me get mine right first try
11:10 AM perry_j1987: still running that same threadmill
11:11 AM Tom_L: same here now.
11:11 AM perry_j1987: i still havnt done any ID threads with it. i imagine the pucker factor pretty high and needing to get use to
11:11 AM Tom_L: i set up a custom macro for thread mills on my cad cam
11:11 AM Tom_L: it didn't natively support them
11:11 AM howto: does anybody know why axis starts fine when not being given a stepconf file and after being given one instead of starting like a good chap gives me about 75kB of errors?
11:11 AM howto: some help here folks....i'm loosing the battle here :)))
11:12 AM _unreal_: its to drive a relay
11:12 AM Tom_L: howto, post your ini and hal on paste.debian.net
11:12 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, maybe not the best part for the jot?
11:12 AM _unreal_: ?
11:12 AM Tom_L: why you using a zero crossing opto meant for AC on a dc relay?
11:13 AM _unreal_: because I have an AC relay that has an AC coil
11:13 AM Tom_L: never seen one
11:13 AM howto: IchGucksLive was the fellow that brought me up to the stage where i could move the axis
11:14 AM Tom_L: yep, a good guy
11:14 AM Tom_L: post your files and someone will likely be able to help
11:21 AM Tom_L: perry_j1987, my macro does both
11:21 AM howto: i do not know where i can find thoese files .I put the iso on a bootable stick
11:21 AM Tom_L: it's a tight fit on ID threads for sure
11:21 AM Tom_L: howto, they will likely be in a /user/linuxcnc/configs/ directory
11:25 AM Rab: howto, can you paste the errors?
11:26 AM howto: i supose so Rab but it is a very long file
11:28 AM Rab: howto, I understand, and only a small part of it is likely to be relevant to the failure. But knowing which part probably requires scanning through the whole thing.
11:29 AM howto: Rab i have four options links on debian paste zone which do i choose?
11:31 AM howto: here is the one which shows the plain text: paste.debian.net/plain/1153100
11:34 AM howto: who wants to consult the files can do it. Tom.L I browsed the stick but i cannot find the files. I suspect i ave to install the thing on a harddrive.
11:37 AM howto: axis starts fine if i start it by it self but when i give it the stepconf file doesnt want to start aymore. I remeber needing to configure a hal and an ini file if i ponder the past a bit
11:40 AM howto: IchGucksLive did that for me and sent those back then...OK found them..but how do i add them to the live session to see if the machine works right?
11:41 AM howto: and where do i put them when i boot the other system. I know I have to make a txt file with the instructions :))
11:45 AM howto: but the files are on an installation that broke after an OS update.Long story short, things happened, I gave up about an year.So now I'm taking everything from the beigning with the iso image and not trying to install linuxcnc on this partition.
11:47 AM Rab: howto, here's the actual error message: custom_postgui.hal:7: Pin 'pyvcp.spindle-speed' does not exist
11:48 AM Rab: The rest of the file is just information about LinuxCNC startup/shutdown, and kernel boot messages.
11:53 AM Rab: I am no expert on LinuxCNC configuration. But maybe the PyVCP panel isn't being loaded, so when your custom_postgui.hal file tries to refer to the pyvcp.spindle-speed component it errors out?
11:55 AM Rab: It sounds like either not all of your config files were copied over, or if this is a newer version of LinuxCNC then maybe 'pyvcp.spindle-speed' is no longer supported by that name.
11:59 AM _unreal_: rab I'm very must confused on this
12:00 PM _unreal_: https://cdn.sos.sk/productdata/61/2a/8c2cd9a7/moc-3041.pdf 180ohm resistor 5v TTL
12:00 PM _unreal_: simple circuit
12:00 PM _unreal_: I have a 20k pull down
12:01 PM _unreal_: I plug inline load side AC into the main terminal side. I feed 5v to the logic side and it does not switch
12:04 PM Rab: _unreal_, it appears this device is designed to drive a triac, rather than switching AC directly. Are you using an external triac?
12:06 PM Rab: This seems to be a typical application circuit for driving an external triac: https://i.stack.imgur.com/YgG9Q.jpg
12:08 PM _unreal_: just figured it out
12:08 PM _unreal_: soldering error
12:08 PM Rab: Sweet!
12:08 PM _unreal_: I soldered to the NC instead of the Cathode
12:08 PM _unreal_: on the opto side
12:09 PM _unreal_: rab its driving an AC COIL relay
12:09 PM _unreal_: and the RELAY is driving a big ass transformer for my new cnc
12:11 PM howto: Thank you Rab but it only happens when i give it the stepconf file ...thank you again
12:12 PM Rab: howto, it sounds like the stepconf is trying to load a component that isn't recognized by the rest of the config, then.
12:12 PM _unreal_: rab ok now that I have the @#$%@#$ relay BS figured out now I can get it put back together and prep for testing the PSU
12:12 PM _unreal_: I need to test that the main transformer will start up and and the caps dont blow
12:13 PM howto: i suspect a spindle configuration got in at one point in time somehow...
12:13 PM _unreal_: when I'm happy with that I'm going to wire in the motor controllers to mains power and start testing those mofo's
12:13 PM howto: althogh my spindle is driven manually
12:13 PM _unreal_: and setting up the settings
12:14 PM _unreal_: have not seen ve7it lately
12:14 PM _unreal_: rab you been playing the stock market at all?
12:14 PM _unreal_: if this next play works I'm making 14-17k :)
12:14 PM _unreal_: I'm already up $6k
12:16 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, lower right is my triac circuit: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/control_sch.png
12:23 PM _unreal_: ahh your using an external triac
12:23 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: how many watts can that control?
12:23 PM _unreal_: SO damn glad its working now
12:23 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, i don't recall but it's driving 2 elements on a toaster oven
12:23 PM _unreal_: jymmmm, mine the controller can take a 1A surge and hold at 150ma
12:24 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: 1500W ?
12:24 PM _unreal_: but its just driving the relay
12:24 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, it has 4 elements so probably about half that
12:24 PM _unreal_: fuck I feel stupid now for doing a silly thing
12:24 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: ah ok
12:24 PM _unreal_: do any of you do LASER etchers?
12:25 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, i dunno what the part is rated for just that the elements are probably around 750w
12:25 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Yeah, i get it, is that one opto islated?
12:25 PM Tom_L: yes
12:25 PM _unreal_: some of these satellites I've been taking apart have these cool liner bipolar actuators for tuning the signal
12:25 PM _unreal_: with like a 3" throw
12:25 PM Tom_L: with a zero crossing triac opto
12:26 PM _unreal_: perfect for driving a light laser head
12:28 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, looks like about 8A
12:28 PM Tom_L: http://www.ween-semi.com/sites/default/files/2018-10/bt137x-600.pdf
12:28 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: ok, I can't even find that PN
12:28 PM Tom_L: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=568-3662-ND
12:29 PM Tom_L: close enough
12:30 PM Tom_L: oh wait... maybe i got a 20A one
12:30 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: YOURS ( BT138) is 12A, not 8A
12:30 PM Tom_L: 497-3390-5-ND
12:30 PM Tom_L: try that no
12:30 PM Tom_L: 497-4168-5-ND
12:31 PM jymmmm: https://html.alldatasheet.com/html-pdf/16778/PHILIPS/BT138/244/1/BT138.html
12:31 PM Tom_L: or maybe that one
12:31 PM Tom_L: yeah i was just looking at my spreadsheet for triacs
12:31 PM jymmmm: =)
12:31 PM jymmmm: But, I still couldn't find the opto PN
12:31 PM Tom_L: any one of those would probably do
12:32 PM Tom_L: oh hang on
12:32 PM Tom_L: 160-1723-1-ND
12:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=160-1723-1-ND
12:33 PM jymmmm: Ah, PN hell I see =)
12:34 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: so in your circuit, the triac is only switching the HOT?
12:34 PM Tom_L: yes
12:34 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: What's the RC circuit in there for?
12:35 PM Tom_L: beats the hell outta me. i slept since then
12:35 PM Tom_L: filter?
12:36 PM jymmmm: haha, Yeah I just couldn't figure out what it's filtering, maybe a bit of a load on the outut of the triac?
12:36 PM Tom_L: it's for a resistive load, it may be slightly different for an inductive load
12:36 PM * jymmmm wonders why perticide takes so long to dry, eeeeesh
12:37 PM Tom_L: these damn piss ants are driving me nuts
12:37 PM Tom_L: every time it rains....
12:37 PM jymmmm: YEah, it's like the triac needs to see "something" on theoutput at all times
12:37 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: borax and syrup
12:37 PM Tom_L: i tried that
12:38 PM jymmmm: Well, mayeb use the pre made traps instead
12:38 PM jymmmm: they do work
12:38 PM jymmmm: Terro any bait traps
12:39 PM jymmmm: ant*
12:39 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, you need a triac circuit for something?
12:40 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/triac_top2.jpg
12:40 PM Tom_L: there's the board i did
12:40 PM Tom_L: opto is stuck to the bottom
12:41 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/triac_bottom2.jpg
12:41 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: I honestly don't know the ratios, but I have like 5 species of ants here. My 1st one works great on the piss ants, but not the big black ants, I tried different bait, so IDK, but ALL of them use borax as the killing agent.
12:41 PM Tom_L: yeah
12:41 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: No, not really, just trying to understand triacs in general as I've never done much AC stuff
12:41 PM Tom_L: you gotta have the zero crossing opto or they will turn on and stay on
12:42 PM jymmmm: ah
12:44 PM Tom_L: i don't think a diac is like that
12:44 PM Tom_L: but i've never used one
12:45 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Hell, building this battery is taking a toll on me, lol
12:45 PM jymmmm: "It's a fucking battery, it shouldn't be this complicated" lmao
12:46 PM Tom_L: what's it for? a solar pannel?
12:49 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Well, "solar ready", but it's really for power after I turn off the generator at night. Power electric blanket, whole house fan, laptop, charge phones, a small light. Under 15lbs, charge within 6 hours, and run 8 hours
12:49 PM jymmmm: oh and a portable oxygen machine
12:50 PM Tom_L: blanket & whole house fan are higher demands
12:50 PM jymmmm: Blanket is 180 MAX, but should be around 300WH on medium
12:51 PM jymmmm: Teh fan is 100W
12:51 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: The battery is 1008WH
12:52 PM Tom_L: just go buy a tesla. it comes with a charger ehh?
12:52 PM jymmmm: Better to buy a prius, comes with it's own charger =)
12:55 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Outside the US, there is a prius generator kit to power your home
12:55 PM Tom_L: won't do me any good outside the US
12:55 PM jymmmm: Teslas still need to be charged
12:56 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: The prius will auto start the engine when it senses the battery is low if the keyfob is close by
12:56 PM Tom_L: i've got a 5.6kw gen that's gotten me thru all the disasters so far
12:57 PM jymmmm: Yeah, I have a 3500W dual fuel gen, but I shut it off at night, thus this battery I'm building. Lugging around a 56lb battery gets to be a bit much
12:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Mill_Assembly1.jpg
12:59 PM Tom_L: just flushed the fuel out and refilled it couple weeks ago
01:00 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: I have a quick connect on the 250gal propane tank, so I just roll out a hose and connect it to the generator.
01:00 PM Tom_L: :)
01:00 PM Tom_L: i run that cord to my welder outlet
01:01 PM Tom_L: and chain the gen to a patio post
01:02 PM jymmmm: Mine sits just insdide the garage, so good for snow/rain, just roll up the big door some
01:02 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/patio/patio21.jpg
01:02 PM Tom_L: run the plug thru the side window
01:02 PM jymmmm: oh that's a perfect area for a gen
01:03 PM jymmmm: I put a petcock vlave in place of the oil drain plug. toolless oil change at 5am =)
01:08 PM sync: Tom_L: why not just hardwire it in, then you would not have to use the illegal setup
01:09 PM Tom_L: limited space. the gen gets moved around alot when i'm working out there and only gets used maybe once every 4-5 yrs or so
01:12 PM Tom_L: my bud got a 15kw one from a grocery store he wired in with a switchover box
01:16 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: 4-5 years, mine every 4-5 months! lol
01:16 PM jymmmm: HAd a 5 day blackout last yesr
01:18 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: This is kinda interesting... https://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Controls-Corporation-CSR202-Generators/dp/B00AHTWNH2
01:52 PM _unreal_: There finally all three relay controllers fucking work
01:52 PM _unreal_: what a pain
01:53 PM _unreal_: ve7it, sup... just figured out my errors on the relay controllers. I need to button everything up and my next trick will be to finally test my power supply
01:53 PM _unreal_: if that poweres up nothing blows up
01:53 PM _unreal_: I'll plug into the motor controllers
01:54 PM _unreal_: What a chore I've been figting that thing since 9am
02:04 PM perry_j1987: so hows everybody doing today
02:09 PM _unreal_: shhhh you sr.. are breaking the silence
02:34 PM perry_j1987: lol
02:41 PM perry_j1987: so what are you guys using for probe macros
02:46 PM pjm: evening all, looking for a bit of help, i installed LinuxCNC 2.7.14 today from the ISO, migrated my working config over, using 7i43 stepper mill, but now the axis move extremely slowly and homing has stopped working, has something changed with timing stuff that would cause this?
02:58 PM perry_j1987: hows it going today Tom_L
02:59 PM Tom_L: perry_j1987, what probe macros are you referring to?
02:59 PM perry_j1987: what od you use to probe
02:59 PM perry_j1987: do you run a macro or just g38.2 or something?
02:59 PM Tom_L: i don't
03:00 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/cradek/
03:00 PM Tom_L: but there are those
03:05 PM perry_j1987: ty
03:05 PM pcw_home: pjm: I don't think anything basic with motion parameters has changed, what version of LinuxCNC did you have before?
03:05 PM pjm: it was 2.6 something
03:06 PM pjm: and now 2.7.15
03:06 PM pjm: there were a fair number of changes needed to the config i.e. joint.x to axix.x
03:06 PM pjm: to make it run
03:07 PM pjm: so when i do manual moves of the x/y/z axis its very slow regardless of the jog speed slider
03:07 PM pjm: and changing default velocity etc in the ini doesnt affect the jog speed, it basically crawls at a few mm per minute
03:08 PM skunkworks: pjm: where you running a joint/axis version of 2.6?
03:08 PM pcw_home: I could see this happening if you upgraded to 2.8x (after the joints/axis merge)
03:08 PM skunkworks: Like a development version?
03:08 PM Deejay: gn8
03:09 PM pjm: so the config files have joint/axis stuff them
03:09 PM pcw_home: yeah that makes more sense
03:09 PM pjm: but i cannot remember having 2.8x running, it was a dev build tho as there were almost daily updates
03:09 PM skunkworks: Yah - I think you had been running a specially build version of 2.6
03:10 PM pcw_home: might be easiest to upgrade to 2.8 and leave the config files alone
03:10 PM skunkworks: I might install 2.8 and see if your old comfigs work?
03:10 PM skunkworks: heh
03:10 PM pjm: is that a straight forward update?
03:10 PM pjm: although the box is basically only build this afternoon
03:10 PM pjm: so it wouldnt be bad if it broke etc
03:11 PM pjm: i've been staring at config files most of the afternoon so could do without doing that all evening too ;-)
03:11 PM skunkworks: uh - I think you could just install the deb? (I haven't actually done that - I usually build from source)
03:11 PM pjm: ok let me try that
03:13 PM skunkworks: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/
03:14 PM W1N9Zr0: perry_j1987: for interactive probing, there's this: https://github.com/verser-git/probe_screen_v2 https://vers.by/en/blog/useful-articles/probe-screen
03:15 PM W1N9Zr0: but it's not very user friendly. ex: when probing fails you may get stuck in a weird state and have to reset with M30, it doesn't support multiple work offsets, tool measurement depends on work offset, etc.
03:15 PM perry_j1987: hmm
03:16 PM skunkworks: perry_j1987: did you look at probe basic? I have not tried it yet
03:17 PM skunkworks: https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/index.html
03:32 PM jdh: no pics?
03:35 PM skunkworks: of probe basic?
03:37 PM perry_j1987: i havnt
03:37 PM perry_j1987: was just thinking i should get probing setup finally
03:38 PM perry_j1987: man this is so nice having air conditioning in the shop heh
03:42 PM perry_j1987: also want to get this whbo4b-4 working with linuxcnc some day too
03:42 PM veegee: https://www.praxairusa.com/about-us/frequently-asked-questions/cylinder-size-information
03:42 PM veegee: Scroll down to the comment section and guess which one is mine
03:43 PM veegee: (there are only two comments)
03:43 PM veegee: I love unmoderated, anonymous comment sections
03:44 PM pjm: hmm deb http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ wheezy 2.7-rt doesnt work with the synaptic package manager
03:45 PM pjm: the userspace one can be installed, the rtai cannot
03:55 PM hazzy-m: jdh: some ProbeBasic pics here: http://www.qtpyvcp.com/showcase/mill_vcps.html
04:00 PM unterhaus_: veegee, I like to note that the inch has been defined in terms of metric units since before I was born
04:00 PM unterhaus_: the call is coming from inside the house
04:01 PM veegee: I know, I just like to troll people sometimes
04:02 PM veegee: Especially presumptuous americans
04:03 PM jdh: how presumptuous of you
04:15 PM roycroft: the united states first adopted the metric system in the 1970s
04:15 PM roycroft: er
04:15 PM roycroft: 1870s
04:15 PM roycroft: and then again in the 1970s
04:15 PM roycroft: so we've officially been metric for 150 years
04:15 PM roycroft: but there's a lot of denial
04:16 PM roycroft: denial is something that this country excels at
04:16 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: nah it could be good but i dont want to waste ones i have :)
04:17 PM dirty_d: they have metric units too on that website
04:22 PM pjm: i couldnt get 2.8 on but put the bleeding edge 2.9 on and thats solved the problem! thanks skunkworks pcw_home !!
04:42 PM skunkworks: pjm - you are using weazy?
04:42 PM skunkworks: weezy
04:43 PM skunkworks: pjm: you were just ahead of your time.. way back then
04:45 PM JavaBean: does anyone know a "better" "heat control" window film than the one gila makes... i don't want to buy a few more rolls of that just to do 2 more windows
04:50 PM perry_j1987: cnc a harbor freight mini mill or waste of time and save for a taig?
04:50 PM Tom_L: yup
04:51 PM elmo40: Tom_L: LoL. Nice single answer to a multi-part question.
04:52 PM Tom_L: both are a 'yup'
04:52 PM perry_j1987: lol
04:52 PM perry_j1987: or just go lease a tormach heh
04:53 PM Tom_L: or a HAAS mini mill
04:53 PM perry_j1987: but they dont use linuxcnc :P
04:53 PM elmo40: anything can
04:54 PM elmo40: the haas uses CAT40? how is that 'mini' ?
04:55 PM XXCoder: haas has many models using different sizes
04:55 PM Tom_L: could be a 50 taper :)
04:55 PM XXCoder: haas office mill you can hide toolholder in hand
04:55 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure the mini mill is 40 taper
04:55 PM Tom_L: don't know that much about it
04:55 PM XXCoder: and HELL NO dont buy office mill!!
04:56 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, i seriously doubt he would anyway
04:56 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, you don't like those neck masks?
04:56 PM Tom_L: they handed em out at my kid's work and he likes em
04:56 PM unterhaus_: I think we had what haas calls a toolroom mill and I think it used 40 taper
04:56 PM XXCoder: well not for prod work anyway. once a while maybe, but dont spray chips around into insides of machine. in fact, dont spray anywhere that is not pat and table
04:57 PM XXCoder: dont even spray on slider covers.
04:57 PM XXCoder: *part
04:59 PM unterhaus_: our Haas used a electric stovetop element as a braking resistor. Funny having a stove elmeent sticking out of the top of the control box
04:59 PM unterhaus_: But they got rid of the machine shop
05:02 PM jymmmm: unterhaus_: mill and heat lunch at the same time
05:03 PM unterhaus_: I never saw it get red. Would be interesting to see if the mill could go fast enough for that, it was a slow little thing
05:04 PM perry_j1987: fry some eggs while runnin the machine heh
05:04 PM Tom_L: run a bunch of tap parts and it might
05:05 PM unterhaus_: I'm thinking you would have to run the table back and forth. We didn't have tapping
05:05 PM Tom_L: the brake would be for the spindle
05:05 PM jymmmm: FWD/REV
05:41 PM hazzy-m: JT: nice!
05:48 PM veegee: Sweet: https://www.airliquide.ca/argon-size-50-xprexeltop/product/A0971141?skuRepositoryId=A0971141
05:48 PM veegee: 4,500 PSI Argon cylinder with built in 2 stage regulator
05:49 PM veegee: only $250
05:49 PM veegee: works out to about 540 SCF of gas
06:05 PM perry_j1987: hate how loose this vise handle is
06:25 PM andypugh: veegee: How much to re-fill it?
06:46 PM jdh: that's a pretty sad info sheet
06:59 PM perry_j1987: any of you guys use pallets
06:59 PM perry_j1987: toe clamps for a pallet of small parts
07:00 PM jymmmm: wooden shiping pallets?
07:02 PM Tom_L: a grid work system would be your best bet on a small mill like that
07:03 PM Tom_L: alot of production shops have gone to that too because setups are alot quicker
07:04 PM XXCoder: no, pallet system cnc machines
07:04 PM XXCoder: few of em at work
07:04 PM Rab: perry_j1987, if you're talking about multiple interchangeable pallets, I'm not sure toe clamps have ideal reproducibility. The setups I've seen, including some pretty trick DIY efforts, have a cradle that bolts to the table with like pins or other indexing features to maintain pallet orientation.
07:06 PM XXCoder: perry_j1987: also look into techo-grip
07:06 PM perry_j1987: no the toe clamps for the parts your machining
07:06 PM Tom_L: how much Z travel do you have?
07:06 PM perry_j1987: not much its a 6040
07:07 PM Tom_L: exactly
07:07 PM XXCoder: ah was thinking professional machines lol techo-grip is too large for those machines
07:07 PM Tom_L: anything you add to it will take away from tool work area
07:08 PM perry_j1987: a pallet on the bed would be shorter in z than a milling vise that im using
07:08 PM Tom_L: http://www.micro-machine-shop.com/tooling_plate.htm
07:08 PM Tom_L: do something like i did
07:08 PM Tom_L: a sacrificial plate with a grid of holes, some tapped and some reamed for dowel stops etc
07:11 PM Tom_L: https://www.soigeneris.com/taig-tooling-plate-2010
07:11 PM Tom_L: i got mine for the price of the scrap aluminum
07:11 PM XXCoder: could use stack of wood then new mounting plate, wood because drills need to go deeper than plate thickness
07:12 PM XXCoder: then clean holes, run taps, clean everything and remove wood, directly mount it. done
07:12 PM Tom_L: anybody here use corner rounding endmills much?
07:12 PM Tom_L: (not bull mills)
07:12 PM XXCoder: and not ball endmill?
07:12 PM XXCoder: ah yes
07:13 PM Tom_L: no, the opposite
07:13 PM Tom_L: for external corners
07:13 PM XXCoder: work we rarely use em, sometimes even preffering to use ballend to make curve than that
07:13 PM XXCoder: yeah i figured that. just needed time to type above heh
07:13 PM Tom_L: ball mill for that would take forever
07:13 PM Tom_L: and not be as clean
07:14 PM XXCoder: yeah
07:14 PM XXCoder: more control though
07:14 PM Tom_L: https://www.lakeshorecarbide.com/cornerroundingcutters.aspx
07:14 PM Tom_L: like those
07:14 PM XXCoder: expecially if part is made from $2,000 block
07:14 PM Tom_L: meh, that's cheap :)
07:15 PM Tom_L: i hear what your saying though
07:17 PM XXCoder: yea
07:17 PM XXCoder: anyway what about them
07:18 PM Tom_L: just kinda trying to get a feel for the most common sizes used
07:18 PM Tom_L: we used them a little but not that much
07:18 PM jymmmm: Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... a deburing tool... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33002448633.html
07:18 PM XXCoder: them rad cutters is annoying in a way that you need every size
07:19 PM XXCoder: need 1/4 rad? you need 1/4 rad tool
07:19 PM Tom_L: i know
07:19 PM XXCoder: i know you know, just saying that its annoying lol :)
07:19 PM Tom_L: i've sanded some on and used a radius gage :)
07:20 PM jymmmm: I'd like to see what that thing would do to a carrot =)
07:20 PM Tom_L: after all any good debur op can fix any part :)
07:20 PM XXCoder: yeah can turn 1/4.1 rod into 1/4 rod by deburr ;)
07:21 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, they got a machine back up at the kid's work and didn't re'locate the 120 tools in the changer to find out they weren't in the order they expected
07:21 PM Tom_L: the changer was acting up with the pocket order
07:22 PM XXCoder: doh
07:22 PM XXCoder: thats not good
07:22 PM Tom_L: haha
07:22 PM Tom_L: ya think?
07:22 PM XXCoder: could smash longer tool
07:22 PM Rab: jymmmm, wow, that's the cheapest I've seen one of those things by a big margin.
07:22 PM Tom_L: no but it put a thread in the corner where a bull mill was supposed to be
07:22 PM jymmmm: Rab: You've actually seen one before???
07:22 PM XXCoder: Rab: if you havent ordered from aliexpress its quite slow shipping. few weeks
07:23 PM Rab: jymmmm, sure, might've been at McMaster-Carr.
07:23 PM Rab: XXCoder, indeed, slow boat delivery.
07:23 PM jymmmm: Rab: Seriously?!
07:23 PM XXCoder: a dollar. havent compared with others but does seem low of such tool
07:23 PM jymmmm: I can't imagine that thing even working
07:23 PM Rab: Not quite the same, I know: https://www.mcmaster.com/deburring-tools/outside-chamfer-end-mills-for-pipes-tubes-and-rods-7/
07:24 PM Tom_L: i've got something that looks similar to that for counterbores
07:24 PM jymmmm: I'll be damned, well cheap enough to use once and throw away
07:24 PM Tom_L: with a pilot
07:24 PM Rab: There we go: https://www.mcmaster.com/deburring-tools/deburring-blades/
07:25 PM Tom_L: nearly as easy just to mill them
07:25 PM XXCoder: anyone know a quart of vactyra way oil for cheap, but low shipping too? cheapest I found so far os 9 usd, 8 usd shipping
07:25 PM Tom_L: wish i had a "D" there
07:25 PM Tom_L: i looked yesterday
07:25 PM Tom_L: hang on
07:25 PM XXCoder: tom yeah though if you want to work with already existing part its easier than setting up lathe
07:26 PM Rab: The Ali version seems to have file teeth on the inside surfaces, I think I'd rather have a cutting edge.
07:26 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, amazon wants 13
07:26 PM Rab: XXCoder, that's about the going price I've found on eBay.
07:26 PM XXCoder: no amazon for me
07:27 PM XXCoder: rab ya though shipping price ow
07:27 PM Tom_L: i got some from my bud's 5gal pail for free
07:27 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: https://www.amazon.com/Mobil-100772-Vactra-No-2-Way/dp/B07B7XZKVF/
07:27 PM Rab: No flatness spec for that Taig tooling plate.
07:28 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, 13 to me and free shipping... drop ship to you
07:29 PM Tom_L: that's a pint though
07:29 PM jymmmm: Rab: Flatter than the girl you dated in 7th grade
07:30 PM Rab: jymmmm, I neither went to 7th grade nor dated during that period, so flattery indeed.
07:30 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, find somebody with an amazon account
07:30 PM XXCoder: nah i have account still
07:30 PM XXCoder: i just dont want to send them any more moneu
07:30 PM Rab: XXCoder, no Amazon on principle?
07:30 PM Rab: nice
07:31 PM Tom_L: you must have seen the one from Fl on ebay
07:31 PM XXCoder: yeah im considering it
07:31 PM XXCoder: 8.4 usd shipping ouch tho heh
07:31 PM Tom_L: what do you have that needs it?
07:32 PM Tom_L: i didn't know you had a mill
07:32 PM XXCoder: oh few things, cnc router, 3d printer
07:32 PM XXCoder: and future 3d printer (hypercube)
07:32 PM Tom_L: ask maintenance at work if you can buy a little
07:32 PM Tom_L: i'm sure they have tubs of it
07:33 PM XXCoder: sure but nobody is allowed to dfo that
07:33 PM Tom_L: k
07:33 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: borrow some from work, then give it back later
07:33 PM XXCoder: lol
07:33 PM XXCoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-PT-EA-MOBIL-WAY-OIL-VACTRA-2-SPINDLE-VELOCITE-6-for-BRIDGEPORT-HAAS-HARDINGE/301242397932
07:33 PM Tom_L: take an extra thermos in your lunch pail
07:33 PM XXCoder: same shipping, adds just 2 usd. geez
07:34 PM XXCoder: tom except i drink soylent everyday. no pail lol
07:34 PM Tom_L: buy 5 gal pail, grab a little and sell the rest on ebay
07:34 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: IT'S PEOPLE!!! (and comes in bars, not liquid)
07:34 PM XXCoder: yawn
07:34 PM XXCoder: old oke
07:35 PM XXCoder: tom suppose thats good action to do but meh
07:35 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: sell on amazon =)
07:35 PM XXCoder: money to amazon
07:35 PM jymmmm: and you too
07:35 PM Tom_L: most of the industrial supplies will only carry the 5gal pails
07:35 PM Tom_L: or barrels
07:36 PM XXCoder: we use barrels at work yeah
07:36 PM XXCoder: we reuse em for scrap metal dumping too
07:36 PM XXCoder: chips dumps too
07:37 PM Tom_L: right
07:37 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: Collect a bunch of 16oz soda bottles, and rebottle and sell it
07:37 PM Tom_L: there's probably enough left in an empty barrel for your needs
07:39 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: 1L bottles work great for oil, I do it all the time for the generators
07:39 PM XXCoder: its annoying how slow price increases with size
07:39 PM XXCoder: 5 gallon is just 97 usd
07:40 PM XXCoder: while gallon is 35 usd
07:40 PM snaked is now known as snakedypoo
07:40 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: You can't be the only one in this situation
07:43 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: $100 / 18 liters (in 5 gal) = $5.56 per liter, sell for $11.99 shipped
07:44 PM XXCoder: found good deal I thin
07:44 PM XXCoder: https://buyoil.com/mobil-mobvact2g.html
07:44 PM XXCoder: thats same price as 2 bottles 1 pint plus shipping on ebay
07:46 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: Fiiine, then use your solent green for lube instead
07:46 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, how much is their shipping?
07:47 PM Tom_L: looks like a good price up until that point
07:47 PM XXCoder: thats the question, it didnt show as price. just 2.59 tax
07:47 PM XXCoder: trying to checkout
07:47 PM jdh: what are you lubing?
07:47 PM XXCoder: no shipping price. 34.46 shipped
07:48 PM XXCoder: jdh few machines, cnc router, couple 3d printers
07:48 PM Tom_L: maybe they figure that later?
07:48 PM jdh: not sure I'd use vactra for that
07:48 PM XXCoder: tom nah im at billing page. they cant add after payment
07:48 PM Tom_L: yeah, maybe not the 3d printer
07:48 PM XXCoder: ou try it
07:49 PM Tom_L: it's good stuff for it's intended purpose for sure
07:49 PM XXCoder: see what your final price is. just use paypal checkout soi you dont need to fill in any info and can easily cancel
07:49 PM XXCoder: whats wrong with 3d printer for that oil
07:49 PM Tom_L: might be a little thick, i dunno
07:50 PM Tom_L: it's not that thick though just sticks good
07:50 PM XXCoder: hmm ok
07:50 PM jdh: never occured to me to lube my printer.
07:50 PM Tom_L: i'd probably use lithium grease for that
07:50 PM jdh: or something even lighter
07:50 PM Tom_L: yeah
07:51 PM XXCoder: ok
07:51 PM jdh: mine uses bearings though
07:51 PM jymmmm: coconut oil
07:51 PM Tom_L: 3 in 1 oil (sewing machine oil)
07:51 PM jdh: router has linear ways
07:51 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, whale blubber
07:51 PM Tom_L: got a nice odor to it
07:51 PM Rab: Way lube has tackifiers to keep it in place on vertical or upside down surfaces. Probably too thick for high-speed movement.
07:52 PM Tom_L: vactra 1 might be better but i've never used any
07:52 PM XXCoder: probably not as good for rods and screws then
07:52 PM XXCoder: lookinmg into 3 way sewing oil
07:52 PM XXCoder: pretty cheap
07:53 PM Tom_L: the good thing about vactra 2 is it won't fling off the lead screws like light oil will
07:53 PM XXCoder: tom which is better? lathium grease or sewing pil
07:53 PM Tom_L: i dunno
07:53 PM Tom_L: probably alot of 'opinion' there
07:54 PM ve7it: just use chainsaw bar oil!
07:54 PM Tom_L: there ya go
07:54 PM ve7it: thick an sticky
07:54 PM XXCoder: fancy
07:54 PM Tom_L: or motorcycle chain lube
07:54 PM XXCoder: does it take 10 years a drop?
07:54 PM perry_j1987: if you eat alot of salami you could just use your hair grease
07:55 PM jymmmm: I got a gallon of 30# bar oil you can have
07:56 PM Rab: I believe 3-in-1 oil contains volatile penetrants, not something I'd use for machine tools. But 3-in-1 electric motor oil is plain SAE 20. https://www.3inone.com/products/motor-oil/
07:57 PM Rab: The only advantage is that I can buy it locally at Lowe's. I have not found SAE 20 at auto parts stores. If you're willing to mail-order, it's probably a bad deal.
07:57 PM Tom_L: A: anything is better than nothing. B: are you really gonna use it enough to wear it out?
07:58 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: can you just dip your arm in at work, then squeege it off when you get home? You said it's tacky enough =)
07:58 PM XXCoder: from what I read lathium grease is good for screws
07:58 PM XXCoder: but not smooth rods hm'
07:58 PM Tom_L: so is KY
07:59 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: EVERYTHING sticks to it though
07:59 PM XXCoder: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/5i98p2/is_white_lithium_grease_good_for_smooth_rod/
07:59 PM Rab: Name-brand linear bearing mfgs (Parker, IKO) usually offer a list of recommended lubricants, I've found.
07:59 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: USe charcoal lighter fluid to remvoe lithium grease
08:00 PM jymmmm: works great
08:02 PM jymmmm: Ok, how bad could this be? I'm thinking 19V for laptop in car https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32982828305.html
08:03 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, those caps are probably .1uf inside
08:03 PM Tom_L: the coil is aluminum wire with a coating
08:03 PM Rab: https://www.thomsonlinear.com/en/product/LINEARLUBE
08:03 PM XXCoder: this was recommanded also https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCVXUVM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
08:04 PM Tom_L: i think the silicone would build up over time
08:04 PM roycroft: what is the application for this lubricant?
08:04 PM Rab: I dunno about silicone lube...it seems to creep everywhere, and is very hard to clean.
08:04 PM Tom_L: it's got teflon in it
08:04 PM Tom_L: that bottle says
08:04 PM XXCoder: 3d printers
08:04 PM roycroft: oh
08:04 PM roycroft: i already had my say about that :)
08:05 PM roycroft: and i still think vactra 2 would work well
08:05 PM Tom_L: so do i
08:05 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, just go with the vactra 2
08:05 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: It's $4 and someone said it worked good
08:05 PM Tom_L: someone who?
08:06 PM roycroft: it has all the good properties you want for that application
08:06 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: the reviews
08:06 PM Tom_L: k
08:06 PM roycroft: reviews come from peanut galleries, generally
08:06 PM roycroft: whose opinions are worth peanuts :)
08:08 PM Rab: Exhibit A, exhibit B: https://www.parkermotion.com/dmxreadyv2/faqsmanager/faqsmanager.asp?question=grease https://www.mcmaster.com/shell-gadus-s2-v100-grease/
08:08 PM XXCoder: im going tgor 32 usd gallon vactra 2
08:08 PM jdh: that's probably 17 lifetimes worth
08:08 PM Tom_L: it keeps
08:08 PM roycroft: even if that gallon lasts you the rest of your life, you won't ever have to worry about it again
08:08 PM Rab: Pretty cheap at $6/tube.
08:08 PM roycroft: and your children will have some
08:08 PM roycroft: passing your lube down from generation to generation should give you a good feeling
08:09 PM XXCoder: lol
08:09 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, you're telling me your shop ballmills outside radius on parts?
08:10 PM XXCoder: aha they do shipping AFTER paypal login
08:10 PM Tom_L: i knew it!
08:10 PM XXCoder: 11 usd isnt bad for a gallon tho and still cheaper than ebay
08:10 PM roycroft: and i told you already
08:10 PM roycroft: go find some other folks who have 3d printers
08:10 PM roycroft: and send them pint jars
08:10 PM roycroft: recoup some of your cost
08:10 PM Tom_L: yeah i think my local price is around 35-40bux
08:10 PM roycroft: you can get pint bottles really cheap
08:10 PM XXCoder: 10 dollar pints
08:11 PM XXCoder: sell 4 and im covered
08:11 PM roycroft: right
08:11 PM roycroft: the bottles will cost you maybe $1
08:11 PM roycroft: so sell 5
08:11 PM Tom_L: tell em this shit is like gold for your printer!
08:11 PM XXCoder: lol
08:11 PM roycroft: and you'll still have a lifetime supply left over
08:11 PM XXCoder: that joke is actually funny tom
08:11 PM Tom_L: those printer guys'll believe anything
08:12 PM XXCoder: i saw one guy talking about using motor oil. sigh'
08:12 PM XXCoder: that eats brass
08:12 PM Tom_L: detergents
08:13 PM roycroft: yes, motor oil has detergents that corrode brass
08:13 PM roycroft: as does most gear oil
08:14 PM Tom_L: gawd only knows what they put in 'high mileage' oil
08:14 PM jymmmm: Nice little heating plate... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000117486631.html
08:14 PM roycroft: they scrape bitumen off the roads and mix it in
08:16 PM roycroft: i haven't even thought about a lubrication schedule for my 3d printer yet
08:16 PM Tom_L: wonder about AC oil
08:16 PM roycroft: it only has about 50 hours of print time so far
08:17 PM roycroft: and i was going to install an hour meter when i bought it, but i haven't gotten around to that yet
08:17 PM Tom_L: that's like one good print ehh?
08:17 PM roycroft: about a dozen small prints
08:17 PM roycroft: i think i have some 120vac hour meters
08:17 PM roycroft: i should check my electronics supplies cabinet
08:19 PM roycroft: i put hour meters on almost everything, because it makes it a lot easier to keep track of maintenance
08:28 PM roycroft: and standard disclaimer: i am not affiliated with mobil oil or any of its subsidiaries in any way, nor to my knowledge are any of my friends or family, and i hold no financial insterest in mobil oil or any of its subsidiaries
08:38 PM jdh: can we have that under oath?
08:38 PM roycroft: believe me, i'm telling the truth
08:40 PM Tom_L: uh huh
08:40 PM veegee: roycroft vactra 2 is not the same vactra 2 it used to be
08:41 PM veegee: the old vactra 2 had tackifiers
08:41 PM roycroft: so i've read
08:41 PM roycroft: and i don't know if my jug is of the old school or not
08:41 PM veegee: they changed it to vacuoline 1409
08:41 PM roycroft: i've had it for about 5 years
08:41 PM veegee: put some between your fingers to test the tackiness. I'll make a video to compare
08:42 PM veegee: I use this: https://lubricants.petro-canada.com/en-us/brand/accuflo-tk
08:42 PM veegee: This is the equivalent to current vactra 2: https://lubricants.petro-canada.com/en-us/brand/pcwaylube-68
08:42 PM veegee: I have a pail of each of those and the difference is HUGE
08:42 PM veegee: I was wondering why my vactra 2 and waylube 68 had equal trouble staying put
08:43 PM Tom_L: is the newer more synthetic oil?
08:43 PM veegee: then I switched to accuflo-tk (similar to vacuoline 1409) and got all the lovely tackiness back
08:43 PM veegee: Tom_L no, they removed the tackifiers apparently for some reason
08:43 PM veegee: I think it's possible to call them and speak to their application engineers to confirm. I'll do that in the near future
08:43 PM Rab: veegee is correct, and I just remembered it's Vacuoline 1409 I use on my manual mill, not Vactra #2.
08:44 PM roycroft: for lubricating 3d printer lead screws, i'm not sure that it matters all that much
08:44 PM veegee: yeah for that, probably doesn't matter
08:44 PM roycroft: for horizontal ways it's not a big deal
08:44 PM roycroft: but for vertical ways it's an important change
08:46 PM Rab: I detect no creep down the knee ways or table dovetails with the 1409.
08:47 PM veegee: Yeah, it also doesn't drip from the bottom of the table on my vertical mill
08:47 PM roycroft: well if it ever does start getting creepy you can always ret some shop space on the space station
08:48 PM roycroft: moving your mill up there might be a hassle
08:48 PM roycroft: but installing it in the new shop once it arrives should be pretty easy
08:50 PM Rab: This Freenode chat may include promoted content relating to ExxonMobil group and subsidiary brands.
08:51 PM roycroft: they used to sponsor masterpiece theatre, so it's all good
08:51 PM roycroft: back in the alastair cook days
08:52 PM roycroft: er, alistair cooke
08:52 PM roycroft: alastair cook is a totally different chap
08:52 PM roycroft: and not a sir
08:52 PM roycroft: oh, wait, he's been knighted too
09:06 PM Rab: Much like Sir Ian Holm, 1931-2020.
