01:01 AM veegee: It's been incredibly difficult to find a 3/4" garden hose thread female to barb fitting
01:06 AM veegee: You'd think it would be a common item
01:06 AM veegee: home depot doesn't have it
01:06 AM veegee: Those that I found are $10+ each D:
01:06 AM CaptHindsight: not in the stores
01:06 AM CaptHindsight: the website for home depot and lowes have tons more but they don't quick ship
01:08 AM veegee: every time I see a forklift in the parking lot at a big box store, I see a free propane tank
01:08 AM CaptHindsight: I got a few at the local menards, people will just leave them there
01:09 AM CaptHindsight: I take the abandoned empty and go to the refill/swap station
01:09 AM veegee: the one that came with mine has an odd defect at the fitting. It was spraying propane when the gas station attendant was refilling it
01:09 AM veegee: but when in use, it doesn't leak
01:10 AM CaptHindsight: the valve does not close?
01:10 AM veegee: he said he's been filling those for 3 years and never seen one leak/spray LPG like that
01:10 AM veegee: the valve closes just fine as far as I can tell. When I put it back on the forklift, I couldn't smell any leak both when the engine was on and off and when the valve was open and closed
01:11 AM veegee: it's possible he didn't tighten the threads properly, but he said he's been doing it for 3 years and this is the first time it happened
01:11 AM XXCoder: time for new tank
01:11 AM veegee: yeah
01:11 AM veegee: I have to find a place that sells those
01:13 AM veegee: I did end up getting about 15lbs more propane than the legal 80% capacity limit because he wasn't paying attention to the scale during the chaos
01:13 AM veegee: I estimated it was filled to about 95%. I just idled the forklift for a couple of hours to burn some more before closing up the valve
01:14 AM veegee: Also, it felt like there was a metal ball inside the tank, like what you get in a can of Guinness beer
01:14 AM veegee: any idea what the purpose of that is?
01:52 AM Deejay: moin
01:52 AM XXCoder: veegee: no idea
02:11 AM veegee: Only downside to having a cat, the fur gets EVERYWHERE
02:11 AM veegee: have a vacuum near me at all times
02:11 AM veegee: sticks to your shirt, gets sucked into computer cases, etc.
02:36 AM * JavaBean has 'fan filters' to keep such things out of his pc cases.
02:38 AM XXCoder: lol just like toxic fans of famous people eh
02:38 AM XXCoder: they get everywhere, sticks to you, etc
02:54 AM JavaBean: could be worse, could be like glitter in the "arts and crafts" fields.
02:54 AM XXCoder: lol
02:54 AM XXCoder: btw culture hustle sells plant based glitter. better for envorment
02:54 AM XXCoder: countries is slowly making plastic microparacles illegal
03:03 AM JavaBean: yeah, except polyester, or however it is spelled, which is often used for clothing. and releases shitloads of "micro particles" every time it is moved. ie worn or washed
03:03 AM XXCoder: yeah
03:03 AM XXCoder: its a slow process
03:06 AM XXCoder: "and today we learn about air pressure" lol https://youtu.be/nrdy3kHpjMA
03:08 AM XXCoder: "next up gravity" lol
05:00 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:00 AM XXCoder: yo
05:16 AM Loetmichel: lets see if that works... *starts the CNC mill* -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17838&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 (new adjustable hotbed for my plywood frame 3d-printer)
05:28 AM Tom_L: morning
05:30 AM JT-Cave: yo
05:30 AM * JT-Cave now has to check the cherry tomato plants several times a day for tobacco hornworms
05:30 AM XXCoder: yow
05:30 AM Tom_L: another blistering day
05:31 AM XXCoder: you got that uv light coming?
05:32 AM JT-Cave: be here today
05:32 AM XXCoder: nice
05:33 AM JT-Cave: forecast 91°F today
05:33 AM XXCoder: while I dont really like this guy restoration style, I like the machining sections. https://youtu.be/JXohCvh2omI
05:33 AM Tom_L: 96
05:33 AM XXCoder: 91f ugh too hot for me
05:33 AM XXCoder: 56f here today
05:34 AM Tom_L: i should try to finish that part this morning while it's cool and see if that helps
05:34 AM Tom_L: cool being 76
05:35 AM XXCoder: your location climate dry enough for swamp cooling?
05:35 AM JT-Cave: 68°F at the moment
05:35 AM Tom_L: a few ppl used to use those here but i havne't seen one in years
05:35 AM JT-Cave: Humidity 93%
05:35 AM XXCoder: too high for swamp coolingf
05:35 AM JT-Cave: works well in the desert
05:36 AM JT-Cave: that's why I call it swamp east missouri
05:36 AM Tom_L: 81% RH
05:36 AM XXCoder: i was wondering though, would it work to simply use huge radators to grab heat and dump it outside
05:36 AM JT-Cave: should be called desert cooler
05:36 AM XXCoder: it wont cool all that much but it keeps inside shop cooler?
05:37 AM Tom_L: they use those vaporizer sprayers for outdoor events here sometimes
05:37 AM JT-Cave: if you had some pipe deep in the ground you could get cool from that
05:37 AM Tom_L: 50f constant
05:37 AM Tom_L: some recirculate well water i think
05:38 AM JT-Cave: you could put a coil of copper pipe down the well but it's kinda small in diameter
05:38 AM Tom_L: heat doesn't bother me much but the mill has a different opinion
05:39 AM JT-Cave: the electrons sweat?
05:39 AM XXCoder: messing with precision I guess
05:39 AM Tom_L: been getting joint following errors and a few other oddities
05:39 AM XXCoder: robos dont like heat at all, or cold winds
05:39 AM XXCoder: it could lower or rise by .001" by those
05:40 AM JT-Cave: the Z axis?
05:40 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:40 AM Tom_L: all
05:40 AM Tom_L: but not always all at once
05:40 AM XXCoder: thats extra fun
05:40 AM Tom_L: sometimes they all 3 fault at once
05:41 AM Tom_L: never had that issue before
05:41 AM JT-Cave: my BP knee mill with the Anilam conversion the Z is always loose
05:41 AM Tom_L: this has no feedback though
05:41 AM Tom_L: just step / dir
05:42 AM Tom_L: steppers are cool though
05:43 AM Tom_L: what sort of numbers do you have on your ferror and min_ferror for the axis?
05:43 AM Tom_L: i bumped those up and it helped some
05:59 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PzCie9pgPk&t=639s
05:59 AM SpeedEvil: Finishing up parts using a scrap surface plate and sandpaper.
05:59 AM XXCoder: yeah. watched it today. cool eh
06:00 AM SpeedEvil: So many little unobvious details
06:00 AM XXCoder: thats why he gets the money heh
06:00 AM XXCoder: i'd be surpised if he earns less than 50 usd a hour on his primary job
06:01 AM XXCoder: honestly i dont know what pay is like for extremely skilled very high precision grinder and such
06:12 AM JT-Cave: hmm I have a cast iron surface plate from ww2
06:12 AM XXCoder: nice
06:13 AM XXCoder: those is nice because some magnetic stuff would work on it,
06:13 AM XXCoder: like indictor block, etc
06:13 AM JT-Cave: never thought about magnetic stuff
06:13 AM JT-Cave: I wonder how flat it is???
06:14 AM XXCoder: dunno, would have to have surface flatness measure thing
06:16 AM XXCoder: saw rock guys use those. pretty cool
06:27 AM SpeedEvil: XXCoder: can you see scrape marks? That's a moderate indication that it might be decent
06:27 AM XXCoder: on flatness etc?
06:27 AM SpeedEvil: Otherwise, someone may have refinished it at some point with a belt sander, which doesn't do good things for flatness
06:28 AM SpeedEvil: If you see marks from a final scraping process, that's likely to be to get it to flat, and be done reasonably.
06:30 AM XXCoder: you mean to talk to jt not me? about that cast iron rock
06:31 AM SpeedEvil: err
06:31 AM * SpeedEvil has apparently not had enough coffee.
06:31 AM SpeedEvil: yes
06:32 AM XXCoder: no problem :)
06:32 AM XXCoder: that guy has amazing vieo on how to grind surfces. pretty cool
06:33 AM XXCoder: balance sensor so sensive he has to wait few minutes for it to reach reading
06:33 AM syyl: robin?
06:33 AM syyl: he is the real deal :D
06:35 AM * JT-Cave will check his after coffee
08:00 AM skunkworks: we have a large cast iron table... 3X5 maybe
08:01 AM skunkworks: Looks like it was blanchard ground and is pretty flat.
08:23 AM jymmmm: good morning
08:52 AM skunkworks: Good morning
09:06 AM skunkworks: huh - I did have a picture of it
09:06 AM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/solar.jpg
09:07 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: what is (was) that?
09:08 AM skunkworks: It 'is' a 112 mirror solar collector that I never finished...
09:14 AM skunkworks: that I started when I was in high school
09:14 AM jymmmm: OH ok, I just couldn't tell from the pic, lots of shadows in it is all
09:14 AM skunkworks: so year and year and year and years ago
09:14 AM Loetmichel: solar collector as in: you want to heat up things to insane temperatures?
09:14 AM Loetmichel: or as in "get energy for house use"?
09:14 AM skunkworks: it was initally going to run a steam engine.. But I think it will probably be used to supliment the wood furnace.
09:34 AM rmu|w: WAF of this thing would be very low around here
09:39 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: does it snow in your area?
09:41 AM skunkworks: yes
09:41 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: geothermal sounds better to me =)
09:42 AM jymmmm: 56F all year long
09:44 AM jymmmm: Nice looking 12V meter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G4ZHT4X/
09:48 AM jymmmm: Why does this smell of a really bad idea... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K3V7ZRN/
09:53 AM SpeedEvil: That is a very badly designed clamp
09:53 AM SpeedEvil: (in that it fails to clamp the post well)
01:09 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest80116
