12:00 AM jymmmm: my bad
12:06 AM pink_vampire: it feel like 5 years, 56 days and 4 hours
12:06 AM XXCoder: 5 eons, 56 years and 4 months
02:00 AM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/M6Z32otpBAQ fun one
05:09 AM jthornton: morning
06:57 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest65024
07:20 AM Tom_L: morning
07:29 AM Deejay: hi
08:18 AM jymmmm: Can lcnc run on this... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000158737770.html
08:20 AM jymmmm: "Free gift: 1 paper cut" Um, gee thanks ?????? https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1tz4dif9TBuNjy0Fcq6zeiFXaq.jpg
08:22 AM _unreal_: are you sure thats not a wrist tablet
08:25 AM jymmmm: I think it might be a grasshopper big screen tv
08:30 AM JavaBean: tft3.2"?
08:35 AM _unreal_: heh
08:35 AM _unreal_: should would like to get me one of them free paper cuts
08:35 AM _unreal_: jymmmm, you used that projector yet?
08:43 AM jymmmm: yes
08:57 AM jymmmm: A few of those match-light briquetes and this might not be too bad... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000879208586.html
09:06 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
09:09 AM _unreal_: worth the $20 ;)
09:09 AM _unreal_: I mean the projector
09:09 AM _unreal_: nifty grill
09:09 AM _unreal_: not sure how useful
09:09 AM _unreal_: heh
09:10 AM _unreal_: I fear the brickets would fall though the bottom when half burned from the size of the gap
09:19 AM perry_j1987: mornign
09:40 AM perry_j1987: i got a couple gae350n motherboards here
09:40 AM perry_j1987: those amd e350 proc with 16 gigs ram each
09:40 AM perry_j1987: wonder how they'd do for linuxcnc machines
09:40 AM perry_j1987: just pulled them out of a server rack
10:10 AM dirty_d: there must be a way to do a sort of latency test within linuxcnc to get "real" results
10:10 AM dirty_d: i see motion.servo-period
10:10 AM dirty_d: would the jitter be that minus the previous value?
10:12 AM skunkworks: https://youtu.be/PtD9w6lp8n8
10:14 AM dirty_d: can you make the spindle vary speed so the x axis doesn't have to accelerate so hard?
10:15 AM dirty_d: is what you're doing some kind of coordinated spindle movement, or is the spindle its own axis?
10:18 AM skunkworks: the axis are splaved to the spindle postion. Yes - you could change the spindle speed - but this machine - the spindle is pretty much at it's low end rpm.
10:18 AM skunkworks: *Slaved
10:22 AM _unreal_: ahh slaved I was wondering what splaved was
10:22 AM _unreal_: some tech term????????
10:22 AM dirty_d: skunkworks, but its a brushless dc motor isnt it?
10:22 AM dirty_d: the torque depends only on current
10:23 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, I'm trying to figure out how to wire my servo controllers to my mesa 7i96
10:23 AM _unreal_: quadrature control input and encoder closedloop
10:23 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, a brushless depends on both current and step rate
10:24 AM _unreal_: and some sort of feed back be it hal sensors or sensing coils
10:24 AM dirty_d: therefore at zero rpm you have the maximum available torque
10:24 AM _unreal_: no
10:24 AM dirty_d: yup
10:24 AM dirty_d: I promise
10:26 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, a brushless motors max torque is about 50% of its max speed
10:26 AM dirty_d: _unreal_, no that's maximum power
10:26 AM dirty_d: its where the product of torque and speed reach a maximum
10:26 AM dirty_d: that is at 50% of no load speed
10:26 AM dirty_d: for an ideal motor model
10:27 AM dirty_d: in a real motor you'll be current limiting it
10:27 AM dirty_d: so you get constant torque until the speed gets to a point where the backemf lowers the current below the set limit
10:29 AM _unreal_: I got this https://www.amazon.com/MYSWEETY-Cooled-Spindle-Converter-Collet/dp/B01N1EJEQ1/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=1.5kw+spindle&qid=1588519728&s=hi&sr=1-1
10:29 AM _unreal_: slowly working on geting it setup
10:33 AM dirty_d: I need to get one of those eventually
10:33 AM dirty_d: still using a crappy trim router
10:34 AM sync: looking good skunkworks
10:36 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, loud as hell to ehhhh
10:36 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, what power level router are you using?
10:37 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, I ordered this as well https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000801582283.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.334c4c4d43vcjW
10:38 AM _unreal_: should be hopefully ;( in a week or two
10:43 AM dirty_d: its a bosch 750W
10:43 AM dirty_d: yes very loud
10:44 AM dirty_d: I tried cutting aluminum the other day, it actually worked amazingly well
10:44 AM dirty_d: mirror finish
10:44 AM dirty_d: I tool very light cuts
10:45 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, I do aluminum on my small machine with my 200watt DC spindle works ok
10:45 AM _unreal_: I do I do climb cutting and always do a finish pass of a few thow
10:45 AM dirty_d: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bnd4ZNMnpko6iGzC6
10:46 AM dirty_d: I helical bored at 0.010" per rev
10:46 AM dirty_d: looked great
10:46 AM _unreal_: holes my machine has issues with. Z is not as rigid as I would like it to be. but when I get the new parts in FINALLY
10:46 AM dirty_d: then did a 0.010" finish contour and still looked great
10:46 AM tiwake: with aluminum you can go as fast as you want as long as the material does not move and there is sufficient cooling
10:46 AM _unreal_: liner bearings and the new spindle I'm going to get rid of my nigger rigged Z for a good Z
10:47 AM _unreal_: tiwake, I have no cooling on my home machine
10:47 AM _unreal_: too small and made of wood and shit
10:47 AM _unreal_: hehe
10:47 AM dirty_d: I don't think mine is rigid enough to take heavy cuts
10:47 AM dirty_d: also wood
10:47 AM tiwake: then you must be going slow enough for it to not matter
10:47 AM dirty_d: yes
10:47 AM dirty_d: but there was zero vibration, so could go faster
10:48 AM _unreal_: for me I can do about 200mm/min at 1/16th per pass
10:48 AM tiwake: there is a point where aluminum melts, balls up, and breaks the tool... heh
10:48 AM _unreal_: anything over that and I loose steps and get warping from Z and the entire frame for that matter
10:48 AM tiwake: oh, stepper motor
10:48 AM tiwake: yeah
10:48 AM _unreal_: open loop
10:49 AM tiwake: you can't go very fast with steppers
10:49 AM _unreal_: I have steppers I could upgrade to but I'd have to change my motor controller as well. current system is unipolar
10:49 AM _unreal_: I'm using motors that I litteraly had for 18 years
10:49 AM dirty_d: https://photos.app.goo.gl/oqUEmMJHYkNvuPL1A
10:49 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, motors don't have a shelf life i know of
10:50 AM dirty_d: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Sg94Dp72ykEhyPnn6
10:50 AM Tom_L: dirty_d, where'd you get a hunk of plywood like that?
10:51 AM dirty_d: its a few pieces glued together
10:51 AM dirty_d: I used a lot of glued together plywood for it
10:51 AM Tom_L: oh, i buy em that way. just wondered
10:51 AM dirty_d: it actually might be only two pieces, but it look thicc in that video
10:51 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, did you clamp or vac bag?
10:51 AM dirty_d: clamped
10:52 AM dirty_d: actually, it was just clamped with the screws holding it together
10:52 AM Tom_L: i was referring to the part on the spindle
10:52 AM _unreal_: if you can The base for my new machine I vac bagged
10:54 AM _unreal_: I cant wait to get my parts. My rigidity is going to go way up
10:54 AM _unreal_: Dont get me wrong My machine is VERY rigid
10:54 AM _unreal_: but it has its flex points :(
10:54 AM dirty_d: Tom_L, for that it was clamped because it was small enough. Three layers of 0.75" plywood
10:55 AM dirty_d: if wood can be this good, I wonder what I can do with steel
10:56 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, if you do a large sheet and have a super flat surface that is larger and strong I'd strongly suggest bagging if your building something. Tacky tape and 4mill plastic and a breather cloth and you can get amazing results. JUST ensure a few screws are used to keep the boards from drifting
10:56 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, same thing just much smaller thinner same weight likely
10:56 AM dirty_d: _unreal_, I was actually thinking of doing that to make a cutting board
10:57 AM _unreal_: bagging is only good for top down layers
10:57 AM dirty_d: probably wouldnt be able to for one of those end grain types though
10:57 AM _unreal_: RIGHT
10:57 AM _unreal_: ya end grain you need clamps
10:57 AM dirty_d: wood is so damn expensive
10:57 AM dirty_d: like good hard wood
10:57 AM _unreal_: unless your using a shit load of long strops built up so you can just do CUT off's like a noodle production
10:57 AM dirty_d: I wanna make a chainsaw mill
10:58 AM _unreal_: strips
10:58 AM _unreal_: hehe I'm going to use my machine when I get the parts to cut the aluminum backer plate to mount the new rails to. the new Z replacement carriage
10:59 AM _unreal_: get all my parts cut then strip my machine down. GUT the BS parts. and remount :)
10:59 AM _unreal_: will be amazing
10:59 AM _unreal_: or so I think/hope
11:00 AM _unreal_: I upgraded my Drive nut last week
11:00 AM dirty_d: taking something apart and fixing it always feel like so much more work than building it in the first place
11:00 AM _unreal_: or week before
11:00 AM _unreal_: HUGE difference
11:00 AM _unreal_: my X was failing because it was wearing
11:00 AM _unreal_: metal on metal shit LOAD of grease
11:06 AM tiwake: dirty_d: it often does, generally because of shit design
11:06 AM tiwake: esp. cars
11:12 AM jymmmm: Oh man, OUCH... https://youtu.be/tf-335pFufE?t=255
11:33 AM _unreal_: dirty_d, I also like the spindle I ordered because its got a solid shaft. not one of those PRESSED collet ends
12:09 PM _unreal_: ve7it, hello
12:09 PM _unreal_: ve7it, the only wires left to connect right now are the control wires for the motor controllers
12:11 PM _unreal_: the tp14 connected to pin9 E/S wondering how I should connect that? if at all to the mesa? should I gang them all together as a single input?
12:13 PM _unreal_: I'm also not sure how to connect the data control wires to the 7i96
12:13 PM flyback is now known as phlyback
12:14 PM phlyback is now known as flyback
12:16 PM dirty_d: _unreal_, rs422?
12:23 PM dirty_d: rs-485
01:44 PM XXCoder: heys
01:52 PM CaptHindsight: howzit going?
01:53 PM XXCoder: just reading about dumbasses in calfornia
01:53 PM XXCoder: i guess blue lives dont matter anymore to right
01:55 PM rmu|w: blue lives?
01:55 PM XXCoder: police
01:55 PM XXCoder: it was right method to "counter" black lives matter )protest to stop police murdering black people)
02:17 PM gregcnc: nice weather today
02:18 PM XXCoder: capt indeed
02:19 PM gregcnc: and my gib adjuster let go after soaking a second night
02:23 PM CaptHindsight: 70's this weekend followed by 50's this week
02:23 PM CaptHindsight: and DRY!
02:23 PM CaptHindsight: perfect weather for ditch digging and general outdoor activities
02:24 PM XXCoder: typical late spring weather here
02:25 PM gregcnc: yeah everryone thinks the the same
02:25 PM XXCoder: 50sf to 60sf, random rains
02:25 PM XXCoder: well mid-late
02:25 PM gregcnc: so many turtles at VA pond. Kids found a small snapper near the edge.
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: Lake Geneva yesterday, reminded me of the jet ski scene in Idiocracy
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: some days you can see them lined up sunning themselves on logs
02:29 PM gregcnc: yeah, all the logs today
02:29 PM gregcnc: also a small group of fairly large goldfish
02:30 PM XXCoder: goldfish is pretty nasty invasive species
02:30 PM XXCoder: if you dont want em anymore, kill em. dont pour in rivers ec
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: spot any of the Martian wild cabbage? grows like 6"/day
02:32 PM gregcnc: we didn't walk the trails today
02:32 PM jdh: we road the trails today
02:33 PM gregcnc: by fairly large goldfish, I'd guess 6-8"
02:34 PM JavaBean: when they get that big, are they now Koi?
02:34 PM gregcnc: dunno
02:34 PM JavaBean: also, mid 80's to mid 90's here. dry and windy
02:35 PM XXCoder: java carp species for sure but is koi? dunno dont think so
02:35 PM * JavaBean shrugs, keeps lunching
02:37 PM CaptHindsight: https://blueridgekoi.com/quick_faq/whats-the-difference-between-koi-and-goldfish-how-can-i-tell-them-apart/
02:38 PM gregcnc: not close enough to make anything out, but i remember the whiskers on koi. defintiley all bright orange though
02:42 PM XXCoder: Pence staff threatened action against reporter who talked about Pence not wearing mask at hospital.
02:48 PM gregcnc: if he wants to die it sok isn't it?
02:49 PM XXCoder: problem with darwinism is that vorus dont care. he would infect innocents, expecially if hes asymtomic
02:50 PM gregcnc: everyone will eventually be exposed
02:50 PM XXCoder: flatten the curve
02:50 PM gregcnc: done
02:50 PM XXCoder: no, not done yet lol
02:50 PM XXCoder: we had highest number of deaths on reopening day
02:51 PM XXCoder: thankfully wa was smarter and delayed it from may 5th to may 31st
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: we don't need no stinking masks
02:51 PM XXCoder: capt agreed, wash masks
02:52 PM andypugh: We hve to wear masks if we go in to the office. I do rather dislike the feel, and it definitely makes it harder to breathe (noticable as the lifts and escalators aree turned off)
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: I like how just about anything that covers from chin to bridge of nose is considered OK
02:52 PM gregcnc: including window screen
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: I'm making a big fake nose like the one in the witch scene
02:53 PM XXCoder: andy my lungs is weaker i cant breathe though n95 masks heh cotton works but less effective.
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: I also was hand decorating some dust masks
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: cartoon teeth get the best reactions
02:56 PM unterhaus_: someone wearing a medieval doctors mask was asked to leave a grocery store
02:56 PM gregcnc: why
02:57 PM andypugh: Apparently the police here are getting upset about someone wandering about in a plague doctor outfit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXPT4jPs82M
02:57 PM unterhaus_: scaring the customer
02:57 PM gregcnc: lol
02:57 PM unterhaus_: someone called the cops on the guy wearing the death costume on florida beaches
02:57 PM gregcnc: i see waht it is now
02:57 PM andypugh: But the point is, that the plague doctor outfit is proably fairly efefective against CoVID
02:58 PM syyl: well
02:58 PM syyl: it helps for one with social distancing
02:58 PM XXCoder: very social distancing
02:58 PM syyl: because youre mildly weird
02:58 PM andypugh: It also covers the eyes and has air filtering.
02:58 PM syyl: yep
02:58 PM syyl: and as scary as it looks
02:59 PM syyl: it will also remind less mindfull people about the current situation
02:59 PM syyl: "oh shit, right, we have a pandemic"
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: people here would just think it was some cosplay outfit
02:59 PM unterhaus_: if the rednecks around here start harassing people about wearing masks, I'm going to start wearing my mopp 4 suit
02:59 PM XXCoder: mask is quite long because its supposed to contain flowers for "good air". ye olde "science" but it actually helped, not due to flowers, but due to unintental barriers to infection
03:00 PM andypugh: I suspect that the guy wearing one has it as a fancy dress, and has decided it is appropriate for the situation.
03:00 PM syyl: most likely goth/cosplay scene
03:00 PM gregcnc: it's probably his bedroom getup
03:00 PM syyl: i would not be suprised if some friends of mine have the same setup in their wardrobe
03:00 PM unterhaus_: wasn't the plague doctor outfit supposed to look scary?
03:00 PM XXCoder: anything that exists can be fetitized
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: or the Adam Sandler underpants mask
03:00 PM syyl: yes, unterhaus_
03:01 PM unterhaus_: I like the doctor hat
03:01 PM syyl: the idea was to warn people by visual indication that you are infected
03:01 PM unterhaus_: can't do the mask without the robe and the hat
03:01 PM gregcnc: https://imgur.com/gallery/r1rgc7A
03:02 PM unterhaus_: I started a controversy on twitter by noting that when physicians appropriated the term "doctor" from academics, they were still using leeches to treat disease
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: face thongs
03:02 PM unterhaus_: the unexpected pushback was that they still use leeches
03:02 PM unterhaus_: I knew this, but only for local anticoagulants
03:02 PM XXCoder: it took doctors 100 years to start washing hands
03:03 PM unterhaus_: oh yeah, the first guy that said that was in 1840 something and he was ostracized
03:04 PM XXCoder: yeah and they gaslit the hell out of that guy
03:04 PM unterhaus_: they also were using heavy metals
03:04 PM syyl: if you have time read up on Ignaz Semmelweis
03:05 PM unterhaus_: no time, got to go bake bread
03:05 PM syyl: :)
03:08 PM XXCoder: man
03:08 PM XXCoder: russia is exploding in cases
03:08 PM unterhaus_: that was obviously going to happen. Trump's mentor
03:08 PM XXCoder: exponental growth'
03:08 PM unterhaus_: we're going to be exploding in cases soon
03:08 PM unterhaus_: again
03:08 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:08 PM XXCoder: not in wa tho!
03:09 PM unterhaus_: I'm glad, my brother is in wa
03:09 PM XXCoder: wa is smarter than average be er state
03:09 PM unterhaus_: I live in Pennsyltucky, we're going to get hammered
03:09 PM unterhaus_: the locals are not natively stupid, it's willful
03:10 PM XXCoder: sigh
03:10 PM gregcnc: willful?
03:10 PM unterhaus_: I grew up in appalachia Virginia where they really had no choice in the matter
03:10 PM unterhaus_: willful == they choose stupidity
03:11 PM XXCoder: trump is planning massive rallies soon
03:12 PM XXCoder: probably why trump wanted reopen now so he can rally
03:12 PM gregcnc: if all the republican die it's OK right?
03:13 PM XXCoder: darwinism sucks, since virus dont care. they will spread to everyone else
03:13 PM unterhaus_: no, because I'm surrounded by republicans and they would take out a lot of good people
03:13 PM gregcnc: the virus doesn't really care what is done
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: clever cat https://imgur.com/gallery/1sVoo0o
03:13 PM unterhaus_: I know a grocery cashier in california. She's a lot safer there than here
03:14 PM XXCoder: LOL evil genius https://imgur.com/gallery/1sVoo0o
03:19 PM XXCoder: sigh picture of place in new york
03:19 PM XXCoder: LOTS people together just chatting
03:19 PM XXCoder: ny is very nasty hotspot
03:19 PM andypugh: Maybe they have all already had it
03:20 PM unterhaus_: the pics I have seen from NY the people are spread out. In DC, not so much
03:20 PM unterhaus_: if you take a picture from a distance, people look close together
03:20 PM XXCoder: andy study on post-sickness is still unclear, they found anywhere from no antibodies to lots
03:20 PM gregcnc: that's normal
03:20 PM unterhaus_: 20 percent of nyers have had it
03:21 PM unterhaus_: herd immunity takes 70 percent
03:22 PM andypugh: If there is no immunity then there is no hope of a vaccine.
03:22 PM unterhaus_: I think DC is going to be bad in a week. Atlanta peeps are not doing that great either. Big crowds in Huntinton beach Ca yesterday
03:22 PM XXCoder: andy not sure think some vaccines will help body keep antibodies
03:22 PM XXCoder: some vaccines do need boosters after alkl
03:23 PM unterhaus_: it's too early to tell if there is immunity, but probably is
03:23 PM XXCoder: and theres that antibody vaccine in china
03:23 PM SpeedEvil: The SK 'reinfections' have been conceded to be misdetections.
03:23 PM SpeedEvil: AIUI
03:23 PM XXCoder: basically just directly inject more antibodies
03:23 PM gregcnc: the race is on, natrual heard immunity or profitable vaccininated
03:23 PM gregcnc: herd even
03:23 PM unterhaus_: we're all going to get a vaccine made from Tom Hanks
03:23 PM XXCoder: vaccines is not profitable, not compared to just letting people be sick.
03:24 PM gregcnc: right
03:24 PM unterhaus_: The problem is that if a company adds capacity for this, it will be dead weight in 3 years
03:24 PM unterhaus_: they need to be forced
03:25 PM gregcnc: will be over before they have something
03:25 PM sensille: XXCoder: ideally you get both
03:25 PM XXCoder: if i get covid its pretty good chance i will die.
03:25 PM XXCoder: my lungs is already damaged
03:27 PM unterhaus_: I have asthma. I can ignore it most of the time, so I dont know how bad it would affect me
03:27 PM gregcnc: now WHO is saying Sweden is the model?
03:28 PM XXCoder: whats happening in sweden?
03:28 PM gregcnc: basically just social distancing and self repsonsibility
03:28 PM unterhaus_: well, following sweden would be great if we weren't overrun by assholes that don't care about other people
03:29 PM unterhaus_: although "following sweden" means sacrificing anyone over 65
03:29 PM gregcnc: is that true?
03:29 PM unterhaus_: and people over 45 probably will have reduced quality of life
03:30 PM XXCoder: too bad, I hold sweden to higher standard
03:30 PM XXCoder: my namesake grandfather was from sweden
03:30 PM unterhaus_: sweden made the mistake of electing a right-wing government when it was a bad idea
03:32 PM XXCoder: even though he was atheist and dont belive in violence he didn't protest against ww2 and went to germany then japan
03:32 PM XXCoder: he pretty much refused to talk about those afterwards so thats all the details we know basically
03:33 PM XXCoder: unterhaus_: really? that sucks. it seems to be fad lately. hope it turns around soon@
03:33 PM unterhaus_: my dad's family was Quaker, but that didn't stop him from going to ww 2
03:35 PM unterhaus_: the mass immigration from the middle east pushed a lot of the mushy middle of the european electorate towards the right
03:36 PM XXCoder: ah "that is not us" effect
03:36 PM XXCoder: polarization sucks
03:36 PM unterhaus_: certainly caused problems
03:36 PM unterhaus_: for the most part, europe isn't as polarized as the U.S., where the right has been practicing scorched earth tactics for decades
03:37 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:37 PM unterhaus_: I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh occasionally, and if half the things he said about me were true, I would hate myself
03:37 PM XXCoder: looks like kin still alive
03:37 PM gregcnc: good thing he made it
03:37 PM XXCoder: *kim
03:39 PM CaptHindsight: worked fur der 3rd reich, say it loud and over and over again just like right wing radio
03:40 PM CaptHindsight: do they not teach history is schools anymore?
03:40 PM dirty_d is now known as Guest70651
03:40 PM CaptHindsight: heh is/in
03:40 PM XXCoder: not in usa
03:41 PM XXCoder: not when slavery was porayed as "parnters" in southern school bookjs
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: partners in what?
03:41 PM XXCoder: colonization of usa
03:42 PM dirty_d: for when you REALLY need F50 f[50 / #<_hal[halui.feed-override.value]>]
03:42 PM XXCoder: when its not that, its completely removed from history books, slavery
03:42 PM dirty_d: I almost broke my tool setter because I had 150% FO and have very low max accel, lol
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: hah, slave ships would "recruit" partners in Africa?
03:42 PM XXCoder: yeah and they keep paying wrong people, ones that dont have chain fetish
03:44 PM XXCoder: anyway yeah as long as they do stuff like that, people dont learn real history
03:45 PM CaptHindsight: we glossed over the native Indians
03:45 PM Tom_L: maybe we should hear it from their perspective
03:46 PM XXCoder: people's history of america book
03:46 PM XXCoder: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_People%27s_History_of_the_United_States
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: elementary school pretty much glossed over just about everything
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: HS as well
03:48 PM XXCoder: thankfully while i went to wsd during its sucky stage, history classes was good
03:48 PM XXCoder: (wsd is washington school for deaf)
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: public schools around here stopped teaching civics by the early 70's
03:49 PM XXCoder: yeah wsd barely covered that at all
03:49 PM XXCoder: its been 25 years since, dunno what they do now
03:49 PM _unreal_: dirty_d, I'm using ve7it servo drivers
03:49 PM _unreal_: built from scratch
03:49 PM CaptHindsight: just a simple idealistic constitution test
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: still had it when my kids went
03:50 PM XXCoder: class I was in taught quite a bit more
03:50 PM XXCoder: but sstill skimpy
03:51 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: https://imgur.com/gallery/h7BBb53
03:52 PM CaptHindsight: well she did use the sleeve
03:52 PM XXCoder: lol

04:01 PM XXCoder: thats kinda extreme dang
04:10 PM _unreal_: very interesting............. North Carolina talks about opening the state and suddenly LOTS more deaths out of the blue
04:10 PM Deejay: gn8
04:10 PM _unreal_: BS death rate CANT follow the news
04:10 PM _unreal_: not possible
04:10 PM _unreal_: few other states have had that happen as well
04:11 PM _unreal_: talk about opening there states and sudden "" death rate spike""
04:14 PM unterhaus_: Mississippi was going to open up and then 2 days later there was a big spike in cases. I thought they werent going to lock down there
04:15 PM _unreal_: as I said DEATH rates CANT follow the news
04:16 PM _unreal_: there going to open the state. QUICK YOU you you YOU you and you you.............. die quick
04:16 PM _unreal_: got to make a point
04:17 PM unterhaus_: I think people are opening too early because people are getting restless. Not sure how that's going to go for them
04:17 PM _unreal_: unterhaus_, most americans LIVE paycheck to paycheck
04:17 PM unterhaus_: as soon as they said Pennsylvania could open up in a week, people just stopped
04:17 PM _unreal_: even with un employment most are not equaling there normal income
04:18 PM unterhaus_: places in Georgia that opened up had no customers, as one might expect
04:18 PM _unreal_: stopped what?
04:18 PM unterhaus_: stopped acting responsible
04:18 PM _unreal_: ?
04:18 PM _unreal_: most of florida is open now NO issue
04:19 PM _unreal_: beaches are open, parks are open
04:19 PM unterhaus_: florida is going to have a massive death total when it's all over with, they aren't announcing deaths
04:19 PM _unreal_: not announcing....? sounds like waiting for a rainy day
04:20 PM unterhaus_: we all had the advantage of warning from china, italy, and New York, and learned nothing
04:20 PM _unreal_: warning from china WTF are you talking about china HID it
04:20 PM _unreal_: for moonths
04:20 PM _unreal_: months
04:20 PM unterhaus_: desantis is trying to pretend there isn't a problem that he caused because people were going to string him up
04:21 PM unterhaus_: everyone knew there was a problem in China back in December. That's just making excuses.
04:21 PM _unreal_: the virus was out in OCT...
04:21 PM unterhaus_: they weren't hiding it in December, which was plenty of time for us to do something
04:21 PM _unreal_: in the us by nov.
04:21 PM unterhaus_: so what?
04:21 PM unterhaus_: it was controllable then
04:21 PM _unreal_: and its still a drop in the bucket compaired to flu deaths
04:21 PM unterhaus_: they did nothing about it with all that warning
04:21 PM unterhaus_: no it's not
04:22 PM unterhaus_: you're willfully ignoring the facts
04:22 PM CaptHindsight: it's more fun to be a conservative since you can just make up crazy shit
04:22 PM _unreal_: unterhaus_, you can not have for example NY have 20x the death rate of any other state. when there are other states with the same populations and GREATER sand infrastructure and more ...
04:22 PM _unreal_: its not possible
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: Florida doesn't have many bats and they have more UV so less people over 5ft tall will not die
04:23 PM _unreal_: lol
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: see
04:23 PM _unreal_: florida has a lot of bats
04:24 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, very true!
04:24 PM _unreal_: bats do not hybernate in florida
04:24 PM _unreal_: and what do american bats have to do with corona
04:26 PM _unreal_: unterhaus_, cali has the greatest number of chines flow through it because they are a direct rout from china. you would have to assume then that if the averages are correct they should have the highest numbers and they dont
04:26 PM _unreal_: cali has WAY more homeless then NY and they still have less cases
04:28 PM CaptHindsight: Trump had just invested in a disinfectant company, that is why he said to use it
04:28 PM CaptHindsight: it had nothing to do with killing stupid people
04:29 PM _unreal_: ? no idea what your talking about I dont watch TV
04:30 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, something else that is very interesting. all the """""""" HARDEST HIT """"""" areas 100% perfectly match the voting maps for RED/BLUE
04:30 PM Tom_L: you can say anything on the internet and if you say it enough times, it becomes truth
04:30 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, something else that is very interesting. all the """""""" HARDEST HIT """"""" areas 100% perfectly match the voting maps for RED/BLUE
04:30 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, something else that is very interesting. all the """""""" HARDEST HIT """"""" areas 100% perfectly match the voting maps for RED/BLUE
04:31 PM _unreal_: testing
04:31 PM CaptHindsight: conservatives have natural immunity to Covid19
04:32 PM _unreal_: though that is TRUE all of the strong blue areas have the high ""kill"" rates very interesting a virus is so politically aligned
04:32 PM CaptHindsight: have you noticed how they never report on how many liberals vs conservatives have dies due to covid19?
04:32 PM CaptHindsight: dies/died
04:32 PM _unreal_: yep
04:32 PM _unreal_: you've heard about the coroners law suits right?
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: the dead have no right to file suits
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: pretty sure
04:33 PM _unreal_: they discovered that people they processed where later clasified as covid cause of death.... AFTER the coroners
04:34 PM CaptHindsight: well the liberal media has gone all out to make trump look stupid
04:34 PM _unreal_: it was discovered when reporters where trying to call coroners to get information names ETC.. of the covid victums.. and they where like WHAT?????
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: they make up fake things he says all the time
04:35 PM _unreal_: the hospital MUST inform us if tthe person was covid
04:35 PM _unreal_: yep
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: i don't see bodies piling up in the streets
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: or in front of funeral homes
04:35 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, what are your thoughts. DEMS loose control is most states state gov. and FED gov house and senats
04:36 PM _unreal_: bodies can pile up REAL fast if funeral homes are not allowed to be open
04:36 PM CaptHindsight: election delayed until Covid19 is over
04:36 PM CaptHindsight: then it will only be by phone apps
04:37 PM CaptHindsight: since we need to have a secure election, free from fake news
04:37 PM _unreal_: hence I'm going nuts in the stock market right now
04:37 PM _unreal_: by phone app hehe no chance of fraud there
04:37 PM CaptHindsight: yeah
04:37 PM CaptHindsight: also my anonymous mail in ballots
04:37 PM _unreal_: would be nice to have FINGER print
04:38 PM CaptHindsight: that way they can't be faked
04:38 PM _unreal_: election verification
04:38 PM CaptHindsight: or having those tested for having antibodies collect ballots door to door
04:39 PM _unreal_: did you hear that covid favors people with blood type AB. and those with 0- are very unlikely to get it
04:39 PM _unreal_: I'm an o niger
04:42 PM CaptHindsight: too sciencey
04:43 PM CaptHindsight: will more likely be due to how close you were to a god at the time, like good seats in front vs rear balcony at the temple
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: plus it's all a distraction from what is really important
04:44 PM _unreal_: wildly interesting https://dabrownstein.com/tag/red-states-v-blue-states/ its amazing how you can OVERLAY the BIG BAD CASES with the red/blue zones on the map for elections https://krcrtv.com/north-coast-news/eureka-local-news/most-of-2500-passengers-on-cruise-where-new-covid-19-cases-were-found-are-californians
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: get that wall built by the mexicans
04:45 PM CaptHindsight: made with Chinese bricks
04:46 PM CaptHindsight: look how long they last https://i.insider.com/5cc1edcdb14bf471cf44807d?width=1136&format=jpeg
04:46 PM CaptHindsight: very few Mexicans in China for the past 1000 years
04:46 PM CaptHindsight: so it works!
04:48 PM rmu|w: really, there are no mexicans in china because of the Great Wall? Who would have guessed...
04:48 PM CaptHindsight: the Chinese thought ahead
04:49 PM CaptHindsight: why Canada moved so far north
04:51 PM unterhaus_: dang canadians left us with the problem
04:51 PM unterhaus_: except they have a problem with us
04:52 PM CaptHindsight: were got distracted by fighting over tea
04:52 PM CaptHindsight: so let that be a lesson to yah
04:52 PM unterhaus_: yes, don't drink tea
04:53 PM unterhaus_: well, bread is rising. I hope
04:53 PM CaptHindsight: why you can't trust teetotallers
04:55 PM CaptHindsight: not one war over coffee
04:55 PM unterhaus_: sniff
04:59 PM SpeedEvil: tea
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: most countries are all cooking their numbers, not sure how many will be useful
05:04 PM SpeedEvil: South korea is probably legit as one example
05:04 PM SpeedEvil: but not helpful
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: yeah
05:05 PM CaptHindsight: maybe just total deaths in the year
05:05 PM SpeedEvil: (unless you can get everyone to install an app, and do intrusive contract tracing including legally snooping on credit cards
05:05 PM SpeedEvil: and wear masks and ...
05:05 PM XXCoder: im pretty sure usa is sorta cooking numbers. increase have been very linear for quite a while
05:06 PM XXCoder: but not as bad as some countries
05:07 PM CaptHindsight: anonymous tracking is like leaving money on the table
05:07 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/covid19stats is neat
05:07 PM CaptHindsight: get that passed an obsessive compulsive
05:07 PM andypugh: The UK changed the counting method last week. They were just counting hospital deaths. This makes sense if you are trying to track the progress of the epidemic. You want good quality data, to see when the death rate starts to fall.
05:08 PM andypugh: But it became political “lots of people are dying outside hospital, don’t their lives matter” so we ended up with a 10k jump in one day.
05:09 PM andypugh: (and, it looks like we might end up with the most deaths outside the US)
05:09 PM SpeedEvil: Note page 7 of that PDF
05:09 PM SpeedEvil: this breaks down covid vs normal death rate by age.
05:10 PM SpeedEvil: It's pretty similar over age 40. Your risk of dying from anything has a similar by-age shape as covid19
05:12 PM SpeedEvil: Also page 12 shows reporting vs actual date of death curves
05:12 PM CaptHindsight: it will be interesting to see why blood type, high blood pressure, weight, etc has more of a poor outcome than asthma
05:12 PM XXCoder: one of things I read that concern me is theres apparent organ damage for younger people that recovered
05:12 PM XXCoder: (younger as in 20-40 not older)
05:13 PM XXCoder: in some cases
05:13 PM CaptHindsight: what genetic combo and health issues have the most impact
05:13 PM SpeedEvil: What also concerns me is CFS-like symptoms for a _LOT_ of people.
05:13 PM CaptHindsight: toe inflammation
05:13 PM XXCoder: what is cfs?
05:13 PM SpeedEvil: https://bmcneurol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2377-11-37
05:14 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: https://www.healthline.com/health/chronic-fatigue-syndrome
05:14 PM SpeedEvil: Chronic fatigue syndrome. 10% of the people in the toronto outbreak of SARs1 were unable to work a year later.
05:14 PM XXCoder: ouch. that would be NASTY stack for my brother
05:14 PM SpeedEvil: Chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, depression and disordered sleep in chronic post-SARS syndrome; a case-controlled study
05:14 PM XXCoder: my bro has MS
05:14 PM SpeedEvil: Notice that depression in this paper may be a false positive, as the depression scale used equates worries about health with depression
05:15 PM XXCoder: speed yeah depression is hard one to to be known to be part of symtoms
05:15 PM CaptHindsight: lots of real research could be done on this
05:15 PM XXCoder: for example if you has bad cancer you would be worried and depressed
05:15 PM CaptHindsight: not sure how much there will be
05:15 PM SpeedEvil: XXCoder: not that.
05:15 PM XXCoder: but its not really causing depression
05:15 PM SpeedEvil: XXCoder: The depression scale literally asks as part of the questionarie 'are you worried about your health' and 'are you able to go out less' and things like that.
05:16 PM XXCoder: yea
05:16 PM SpeedEvil: Which wil have obvious false positives if people are not actually depressed, but simply unable to participate
05:16 PM SpeedEvil: Also that
05:30 PM unterhaus_: are you sure the environmental questions aren't to control for those? I'll have to ask my wife, she's a psychiatrist
05:32 PM unterhaus_: bread rose, waiting for the second rising
05:33 PM XXCoder: hurrt, call prest to take it down again!
05:33 PM XXCoder: dammit nice spelling. hurry, priest
05:35 PM SpeedEvil: unterhaus_: If you look at the depression scale in question, it simply adds all the scores together, there isn't any control. 'I worry about my health' is counted the same as 'I am having thoughts of ending it'
05:36 PM CaptHindsight: unterhaus_: Jesus bread?
05:37 PM XXCoder: ZOMBIE BREAD
05:37 PM unterhaus_: just everyday sandwich bread. That's what it's called. Should have called it boring old everyday sandwich bread for the full effect
05:37 PM CaptHindsight: I'm a carboholic so easy on the bread for me
05:38 PM unterhaus_: carbs are life
05:38 PM CaptHindsight: i ate a 3ft french bread the other day
05:38 PM CaptHindsight: <24 hours
05:38 PM Rab: Hole drilled in Martian soil: https://i.redd.it/1qol5wxqjjw41.gif
05:38 PM unterhaus_: eating that much bread is a good thing. beats starving
05:38 PM CaptHindsight: boring
05:38 PM Rab: Scale is weirdly difficult to gauge...supposedly it's 0.6" dia.
05:39 PM CaptHindsight: looks chalky
05:39 PM unterhaus_: the martians should have put a beer can next to that hole
05:39 PM Rab: Or a banana.
05:39 PM CaptHindsight: or a banana
05:39 PM CaptHindsight: yeah
05:39 PM andypugh: If it’s chalky that would be an amazing discovery.
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: looks dry
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: what is the temp?
05:40 PM andypugh: (There is unlikely to be any chalk or limestone on Mars)
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: also what a frozen hole in soil tends to look like
05:41 PM andypugh: Earth soil, yes, as the water freezes.
05:41 PM CaptHindsight: any theory as to why the hole is moving?
05:41 PM andypugh: If there is water-ice in there, then that’s a bit of a surprise too, I think.
05:42 PM andypugh: Micro-tectonics
05:42 PM XXCoder: water is less of a surpise than life
05:42 PM CaptHindsight: false color or?
05:43 PM SpeedEvil: There is expected ice in various areas of Mars, and ice has been uncovered before
05:43 PM SpeedEvil: (by rovers)
05:43 PM Rab: Apparently it's rock. I'd link the Reddit thread but it's characteristically content-free.
05:45 PM CaptHindsight: is the surface red from oxidized iron?
05:45 PM Rab: Wider photo of the site: https://mars.nasa.gov/msl/mission-updates/8644/sols-2729-2730-keeping-it-clean/
05:46 PM Rab: I dunno, I was wondering about that. They have pictures from drilling other rocks, with the same reddish surface and grey tailings.
05:46 PM XXCoder: capt more or less yeah. i do wonder how much rust there is. because tust is iron oxide. a source of oxygen... and iron!
05:46 PM XXCoder: though amount of iron dunno
05:47 PM CaptHindsight: also I thought it was well established that the poles have water ice
05:47 PM XXCoder: it might be co2 ice
05:47 PM XXCoder: pretty good likehood of water but dunno
05:48 PM Rab: The material is sandstone: http://www.leonarddavid.com/curiosity-mars-rover-drill-digging-into-edinburgh/
05:48 PM Rab: http://www.leonarddavid.com/curiosity-mars-rover-new-imagery-of-edinburgh-drill-operation/
05:49 PM CaptHindsight: what would they have done if the hole started gushing?
05:49 PM CaptHindsight: and the surrounding land stated to shrink
05:49 PM XXCoder: "oh crap we are wasting valuable water!
05:49 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.leonarddavid.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Curiosity-Mast-Camera-Right-Sol-2711-March-22-2020.jpg
05:50 PM CaptHindsight: better context
05:50 PM CaptHindsight: still missing a banana
05:50 PM unterhaus_: better, but still no beer can
05:50 PM unterhaus_: trying to remember when the bread started rising
05:51 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: have a picture of the drill used from the tooth end?
05:51 PM XXCoder: unterhaus_: did you say bread rising right when it started? because theres timestamp
05:51 PM Rab: CaptHindsight, I don't, but I'd be interested to see it.
05:52 PM XXCoder: 3:32 was when you said it rose
05:52 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/video/details.php?id=1193

05:53 PM XXCoder: what if iron oxide was all former nanomachines? ;)
05:54 PM CaptHindsight: auger type
05:54 PM SpeedEvil: the above PDF has detailed design specs - it's about a couple of kilos, and runs on several 18650s, and can fly several minutes a day

05:55 PM Rab: White paper on the drill unit: http://www.esmats.eu/amspapers/pastpapers/pdfs/2010/okon.pdf
05:55 PM unterhaus_: XXCoder, trying to remember if that was 10 minutes after it started, because the kitchen is downstairs from here
05:55 PM CaptHindsight: get the kinks worked out on the NASA flat earth simulator then actually be ready when we fly there

06:03 PM pcw_home: sort of
06:03 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/B5TWtxRvydE?t=77
06:04 PM _unreal_: hi
06:04 PM _unreal_: I'm trying to figure out how to get ve7it board connected to the 7i92
06:04 PM _unreal_: 7i96
06:05 PM _unreal_: quadrature motion control. not step/dir
06:05 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/Qa2sc6-u59I?t=323
06:05 PM _unreal_: just trying to figure out what pins to use
06:06 PM _unreal_: ve7it, are you around?
06:11 PM pcw_home: probably just stepN+ and dirN+ and GND
06:11 PM _unreal_: and firmware from there ok
06:12 PM pcw_home: no firmware involved
06:12 PM _unreal_: setting then
06:14 PM pcw_home: yes, you need to set the stepgens to mode 2 (quadrature) in your hal file
06:15 PM _unreal_: I'll have to take a new photo but I'm getting close
06:15 PM _unreal_: pcw_home, how about my encoders for the 3 servo motors?
06:15 PM pcw_home: CaptHindsight: got a cheapo Chinese XY2-100 galvanometer working
06:16 PM pcw_home: unreal_ Normally the encoders would just go to the drives
06:17 PM _unreal_: hum ok
06:17 PM _unreal_: just looking at active feed back of motion
06:23 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: you did?
06:23 PM CaptHindsight: i got side tracked by the QTPYVCP stuff and pandemic
06:25 PM pcw_home: no specs but its really stupid (ignores the control bits, no return status)

06:28 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: how close was your example that you posted weeks ago?
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: pretty much works except you can't test for any status?
06:32 PM pcw_home: the one I have doesn't have the status signal
06:32 PM pcw_home: its a RC1001 about $166 with power supply and cables
06:33 PM pcw_home: straight 16 bit X,Y data, ignores control bits so very basic xy2-100
06:35 PM pcw_home: I got the blue range only to find out later that blue range Theta-F lenses are $$
06:42 PM pcw_home: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000557654102.html
06:59 PM CaptHindsight: every few months the price drops
06:59 PM XXCoder: fancy
07:02 PM pcw_home: need to mess with the firmware a bit to add posted/retimed writes
07:05 PM CaptHindsight: the main supplier of nylon powder had an "accident" so the price per KG is >$100
07:05 PM pcw_home: because you can actually hear LinuxCNC latency on position writes so they need to be retimed
07:06 PM CaptHindsight: it's still ~$4/kg in pellet form
07:06 PM XXCoder: nylon powder acciently sent to warehouse for while?
07:06 PM CaptHindsight: yeah similar
07:07 PM SpeedEvil: Cryoballmill
07:07 PM CaptHindsight: cryo pin mill for production quantity
07:08 PM CaptHindsight: but the main supplier actually produces particles right inn the reactor, pretty close range like mono-disperse
07:08 PM SpeedEvil: ah
07:08 PM XXCoder: dang what a total ripoff https://icrossworld.com/product-category/cloth-covering/strek/
07:09 PM SpeedEvil: I mean - if the communicator actually worked.
