06:15 AM p0g0: I don't know if they vary by strain- these are an heirloom that I have, "gertrudes", that I got from Gertrude Hobbs inthe 1970's, she'd raised them for 50+ years by then.

When I was a plant science major in CA, I met the guy that developed the M4, the crush proof tomato that we all don't like- he had grad students go out in the field and emasculate every flower... The thick skin was from the Galapagos- he had to sort out how to scarify the seeds that expected to go thru the gut of a turtle before they'd spout.

01:58 PM jesseg: So they can overshoot and in fact under certain circumstances can set up some nasty fully fledged oscillations like a poorly tuned PID servo motor.
