12:14 AM Elmo40: meh
12:19 AM Elmo40: population control...
12:43 AM _unreal_: veegee, if the purchase does not hurt your budget then stop complaining, you cant torque the wrenches when your dead so whats the problem
12:49 AM miss0r: goodmorning
01:56 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: for a "killer virus" it does a remarkably bad job at killing people.
02:01 AM CaptHindsight: i tried to keep the channel busy until you guys get here
02:01 AM CaptHindsight: need more Asians in here
02:32 AM miss0r: asians talk too fast. And I don't want my pc to catch a virus :þ
02:37 AM CaptHindsight: I'm glad to not be the only one here filled with fake outrage about these issues
02:40 AM miss0r: its plastered all over the news ect.. Its basically a flu with a catchy title. and the media thrives over it
02:41 AM miss0r: and I'm like 'meh'...
02:41 AM miss0r: but i'm not worried. I have three tonnes of toilet paper stashed away at a secret location :P
02:42 AM miss0r: (what is that about anyway? people afraid they won't have toilet paper to wipe?)
03:21 AM CaptHindsight: I'm glad to not be the only one here filled with fake outrage about these issues
03:22 AM CaptHindsight: woops
03:22 AM CaptHindsight: TP becomes currency during any zombie apocalypse
04:24 AM XXCoder: miss0r: kinda. but flu have 0.1% finality rate. 2% is huge compared to it.
04:24 AM miss0r: Indeed
04:24 AM XXCoder: flu only lasts maybe 2 days on surfaces. coronavirus lasts ricious 9 days
04:24 AM miss0r: I knows its worse than a regular flu.. But what makes it realy dangerous is the headlines, imho
04:25 AM XXCoder: flu rq is 1.8 or so. coronavirus is 1 to 5
04:25 AM XXCoder: erm 5 not "1 to 5"
04:25 AM XXCoder: its not world or even goverment ending, but it is going to hurt
04:26 AM miss0r: Indeed
04:27 AM miss0r: population control...
04:27 AM XXCoder: careful, when you bring upo culling it always turns into culling of "certain people" in some people
04:27 AM miss0r: culling? (I don't know the word)
04:28 AM XXCoder: cutting down population
04:28 AM miss0r: ahh.
04:29 AM miss0r: Yeah, we don't want to go there
04:29 AM * miss0r is cleaning the shop
04:29 AM XXCoder: always fun
04:29 AM miss0r: I need this more than you know :D
04:30 AM XXCoder: lots free new tools!
04:30 AM miss0r: well.. You have some idea how crammed it is in here.
04:30 AM miss0r: Even a misplased screwdriver can make it feel messy.. Now imagine 4 months of neglect & machining
04:30 AM miss0r: and consider how much of a pig I am.. :D
04:31 AM XXCoder: heh im quite disorganized too
04:31 AM XXCoder: good thing shop is nicely set
04:31 AM XXCoder: talking about the fun virus -
04:31 AM miss0r: My machines are shoved into place with a shoe horn.
04:31 AM miss0r: :D
04:31 AM XXCoder: one of guys at shop was coughing so company kicked him out
04:31 AM miss0r: lol
04:31 AM XXCoder: and bought lots of wipes and handwash
04:32 AM XXCoder: i was wondering why there was sprays and wipes at each machine area
04:32 AM miss0r: well. we can laugh all we want about this. But it makes perfect sense anyway
04:33 AM XXCoder: yeah
04:33 AM miss0r: good hygene could rid most of the common deceases.. or atleast decimate them
04:33 AM p0g0_: Virii with long incubation times, esp symptom free ones, are more trouble. iirc the published mortality rate for covid19 is >3%. However, if you've read Erlich, for more then 50 years, the fact has been established that therre are no wars or plagues that is going to change the basic mix of populations on earth. Culling isn't applicable to this, even if it looks like it might be.
04:34 AM miss0r: p0g0_: Indeed. But it seems clear to me that those affected in 3rd world contries with little or no healthcare are going to take a harder hit
04:35 AM p0g0_: Maybe, it seems intuitive, but if the vectors are more from travel based stuff, the initiators won't be the home bound impoverished.
04:36 AM miss0r: while this is true, travelers get around
04:36 AM p0g0_: They'll more likely be the busy, many stop modern youth that feels invulnerable.
04:36 AM p0g0_: Yeah, once they inoculate, then the public health issues get more local.
04:37 AM p0g0_: The US ranks what, 27th, in modern health measures vs other technically advanced nations.
04:37 AM miss0r: well, knowing about Plauge Inc. and living in Denmark, I think I'll migrate to Greenland ;P
04:38 AM p0g0_: So, tho we spend 3x what other countries do, we get a lot less than most out of the effort.
04:38 AM miss0r: ha.. apparently we range 34
04:38 AM p0g0_: I think you spend less per capita tho...
04:38 AM miss0r: france wins. Who would've thought :D
04:39 AM p0g0_: I kinda learned this stuff about 30 years back...
04:39 AM p0g0_: When we still thought we had a chance to repair things.
04:39 AM miss0r: I don't know how much is spend. its universal healthcare though.. which is nice
04:42 AM p0g0_: No such thing here, tho once you get old (or poor) enough, the feds offer some relief.
05:01 AM Tom_L: morning
05:02 AM XXCoder: yo
05:02 AM miss0r: 'ello
05:09 AM jthornton: morning
05:30 AM XXCoder: hey
06:23 AM Deejay: hi
07:15 AM unterhaus_: how big is the linux mint 19.2 custom linuxcnc iso?
07:48 AM miss0r: unterhaus_: ->| |<-
07:48 AM miss0r: (actual size may vary on different size screens)
07:48 AM miss0r: i.e. I don't know :D
08:32 AM jymmmm: good morning
09:09 AM Loetmichel: maaan, either i am turning green soon or chinese screwdriver bits are NOT quality tools... what do they mix in there? chewing gum? Just tried to tighten down a few terminals... -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17736&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
09:12 AM ziper: been working out?
09:14 AM Loetmichel: not really
10:37 AM Elmo40: Loetmichel, shame on you for not purchasing Wera tools...
10:41 AM unterhaus_: I buy wiha or wera and they are a lot more expensive here. Life it too short for bad tools
10:41 AM Loetmichel: Elmo40: do i look like rockefeller?
10:41 AM unterhaus_: how much do they cost there?
10:42 AM Loetmichel: but yes, considering that i lived in Remscheid quite a while of my life... (remschied is the town where wega, gedore, dowidat, belzer an a lot of others have their origin) ;)
10:42 AM Loetmichel: wera
10:45 AM unterhaus_: I bought a set of wiha mini screwdrivers 20 years ago, none have been damaged, and my kids knew where they were
10:46 AM unterhaus_: bought a set for work and none damaged, grad students knew where they were
10:46 AM unterhaus_: this is probably a tougher test
11:32 AM Loetmichel: hmm, the new 1W cob leds above the 3d-printers are really good/bright. now the remote access is useful even at night when the company is empty and all lights are off: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17739&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:04 PM miss0r: For whatever reason theres an english word I cannot for the life of me remember. the slot you mill in a shaft to accept a softer square pin to help lock the shaft rotation with a matching slot in a bore on a wheel or something else. What is this slot called?!
01:04 PM miss0r: (it is driving me nuts)
01:05 PM Rab: Keyway?
01:06 PM miss0r: THANK YOU!
01:06 PM miss0r: holy! for some reason I could not recall the damn name. Its hard to find charts without
01:06 PM Rab: Wait, apparently in the shaft it's a 'keyseat': https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-keyseats-and-keyways
01:06 PM miss0r: and you can be damn sure, theres no charts just readily out there using the danish names for stuff like that
01:19 PM skunkworks: Can't say I have heard the term 'keyseat'
01:32 PM Rab: Me neither, in US colloquial english I think 'keyway' is often used for any kind of key slot.
01:33 PM skunkworks: yes
02:04 PM CaptHindsight: slot for something to keep it in place in layman's terms
02:57 PM Tom_L: aparently a keyseat is on the OD and keyway is on the ID
03:00 PM jym: interesting
03:23 PM methods_: a keyseater makes internal keyways
03:23 PM methods_: https://hpproc.com/davis-keyseater/
03:51 PM miss0r: I just did some remachining on a shaft one of my costumers had made for one of their clients.
03:52 PM miss0r: The client came back with the shaft, and requested to have a keyway expanded from 5 to 6mm
03:52 PM miss0r: And apparently my costumer was not equipped for remachining? I don't know - they asked me to take care of it
03:52 PM miss0r: The shaft already has a 6mm keyway on it, that they machined initialy
03:53 PM miss0r: Here is where I think stuff gets weird. Theres no tolerances defined on the drawing
03:53 PM miss0r: and the keyway they made is what I would call ridiculously loose
03:53 PM miss0r: What do you guys feel standard tolerances for a 6mm keyway should be?
03:54 PM Deejay: gn8
03:54 PM CaptHindsight: <100um
03:54 PM miss0r: Measuring their keyway it is 0.07mm oversize
03:55 PM miss0r: I made a test keyway 0.01mm oversize, and that has the right feel, in my opinion
03:55 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: Using that logic their keyway is fine..
03:56 PM miss0r: I think the standard for keyways dictate a pressfit(interfearance)
03:57 PM miss0r: I just read up on it online. Apparently a 6mm keyway in a 17mm shaft is supposed to be -0.015 to +0.015
03:57 PM CaptHindsight: sure, but really depends on the application
03:58 PM miss0r: But the depth on the drawing is too deep :]
03:58 PM miss0r: heck. I'll just make a nice fingerpress fit and hope that is it
03:58 PM CaptHindsight: ideally you don't want the pulley, gear, etc to have any play
03:58 PM miss0r: I have no idea what the application is
03:59 PM miss0r: anything that can make it rattle around in there with differential loads will kill it right fast in a hurry
03:59 PM miss0r: agreed
03:59 PM miss0r: 0.01mm oversize it is
03:59 PM CaptHindsight: like the harmonic balancer on your crankshaft
04:00 PM miss0r: yeah
04:01 PM CaptHindsight: won't matter much for an application like this https://imgur.com/gallery/dI8xnCj
04:01 PM andypugh: For reversing loads the company my dad used to work for used twin tapered tangential keys loading against each other.
04:03 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: haha
04:03 PM miss0r: andypugh: That is a good idea
04:03 PM miss0r: I had to make a cute little setup, to use a flat machined in the shaft at 90degrees from the keyway
04:03 PM miss0r: https://imgur.com/a/IjISRDn
04:04 PM miss0r: 6.01mm slot feels good now that it is machined in the shaft
04:05 PM andypugh: https://images.app.goo.gl/B6XMgrpryi99jwdN7
04:06 PM miss0r: andypugh: Now that is a steady solution
04:06 PM andypugh: Each of the two double keys is a tapered pair.
04:07 PM miss0r: Indeed
04:07 PM miss0r: damn its getting late. I'll call it a night. See you around
05:22 PM _unreal_: does anyone see anything wrong with the descriptions? http://www.newbecca.com/product/553250524125
05:26 PM pcw_mesa: "Small Wu King Medium martial arts trumpet" sounds about right
05:27 PM Loetmichel: problem with play in keyways is that it tends to get bigger over time. it widens itself with every "hit" it gets (moving in the play)
05:31 PM Tom_L: so then you switch to a spline
05:36 PM * TurBoss posted a file: sim.rc.servo.7z (1KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/BMiievVCtJlqqUFvHZSmlydX >
05:45 PM t4nk_freenode: good thing you zipped that monster up!
05:45 PM t4nk_freenode: :b
06:40 PM jthornton: XXCoder, around?
06:47 PM Tom_L: nice sunny day here
07:52 PM flyback: dad's got a few word swaps :/
08:51 PM _unreal_: word swaps?
09:36 PM t4nk_freenode: well, CaptHindsight ... they delivered a day early even
09:36 PM t4nk_freenode: projector has been switched on, and been running for about nine hours straight now
09:39 PM t4nk_freenode: I've not yet had a tremendous wow-moment.. but I got a prety good feeling about it
09:39 PM t4nk_freenode: biggest weakness is the input lag
09:40 PM t4nk_freenode: it took me 14 minutes to type these last two sentences
09:41 PM t4nk_freenode: no, but seriously, there is a bunch of lag, don't know if I even want to hook up the xbox at all
09:41 PM t4nk_freenode: O think you can write it off for any form of gaming
09:42 PM t4nk_freenode: ah, and then there is this grey wall I'm projecting on
09:43 PM t4nk_freenode: all in all it realy weakens the picture, I put a white door up the wall ... and that looked really sweet
09:45 PM t4nk_freenode: I can light up the entire room, and the picture is still very much ok
09:47 PM t4nk_freenode: 1 lamp and the old sanyo would have been wiped away
09:49 PM t4nk_freenode: projection is about 3m wide
10:20 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I now know why that motor is weak
10:20 PM _unreal_: the area on the motor its self with the working specs has some damage/scratches...
10:20 PM _unreal_: I found an image of an other motor finally same model.
10:21 PM _unreal_: its fucking 20watt output power. the ebay auction listed it as 33watt which is the same as the other motor that has loads of torque power
10:23 PM CaptHindsight: t4nk_freenode: nice!
10:23 PM CaptHindsight: t4nk_freenode: 1080p native?
10:24 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, input lag?
10:32 PM t4nk_freenode: yes, native
10:36 PM t4nk_freenode: yes, _unreal_, the input signals are delayed somewhat
10:37 PM t4nk_freenode: so movement with a game controller say, will feel sluggish, laggy
10:37 PM CaptHindsight: t4nk_freenode: so how many lumens does it really output?
10:37 PM t4nk_freenode: heh
10:38 PM t4nk_freenode: I really couldn't tell you without a limonadeisity-meter
10:38 PM CaptHindsight: i tend to x 0.5 = closer to reality
10:38 PM CaptHindsight: from China
10:39 PM CaptHindsight: but looks good on a white wall for TV/movies
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: could very well be, I think my old sanyo wasn't even that bright
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: 1500-2000 it was I belive
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: believe to
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: too
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: *sigh*
10:40 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.amazon.com/LOHAS-LED-White-Energy-Saving/dp/B00CZ75TWA/ref=asc_df_B00CZ75TWA
10:40 PM t4nk_freenode: but, concerning lumens as in the amount of light... I'd say it's pretty darn bright
10:40 PM CaptHindsight: $10 in low volume 8-9k lumens
10:41 PM t4nk_freenode: hehe, yes, I was immediately thinking of building my own beamer again ;)
10:41 PM t4nk_freenode: but then a decent one eheh
10:42 PM t4nk_freenode: so.... if I 'focus' on getting some sort of mill built... :) who knows, maybe I will build a beamer
10:43 PM t4nk_freenode: 100W will probably be low I figure btw
10:45 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-power-300w-500w-1000w-1500w_62378681426.html I use the 500W ~400nm versions of these
10:45 PM t4nk_freenode: I'll see about making some kind of frame next, maybe buy some cloth somewhere
10:45 PM t4nk_freenode: could look really sweet methinks
10:45 PM CaptHindsight: the UV versions are not as efficient as the RGB
10:46 PM t4nk_freenode: ah, one thing I forgot to mention... the noise it makes!
10:46 PM t4nk_freenode: my God
10:46 PM CaptHindsight: loud fan?
10:46 PM t4nk_freenode: it's Loud.
10:46 PM CaptHindsight: you can fix that
10:46 PM CaptHindsight: by swapping the heatsink to something much larger and with a larger quieter fan
10:47 PM CaptHindsight: x86 CPU heatsink
10:47 PM CaptHindsight: is cheap and easy
10:47 PM t4nk_freenode: if I put it upside down a bit higher up... then the intake, which makes the most noise, will be away from me, and I'll receive some nice hot air
10:47 PM CaptHindsight: i even water cool the 500W ones
10:47 PM t4nk_freenode: well... I assume the intake fan isn't easy to replace
10:47 PM CaptHindsight: heat the house :)
10:48 PM t4nk_freenode: it's working in a different plane, dunno how you call it
10:48 PM CaptHindsight: you seem handy enough, get out the Dremel and carve away
10:48 PM t4nk_freenode: lol
10:48 PM t4nk_freenode: I could show you pictures where I already done that :))
10:49 PM t4nk_freenode: they broke, and I fitted the spinning caps onto some plain fans.. restored the casing of the fan
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.newegg.com/deepcool-gammaxx-400/p/N82E16835856005 or similar
10:52 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.cpumedics.com/amd-heatsink-fan-assembly-for-amd-sockets-754-939-940-cpu-processors/ this is enough for 100W if there is enough room for air to flow
10:52 PM t4nk_freenode: but yeh, it could all be made lot more quiet
10:53 PM t4nk_freenode: if you just bought a nice lcd panel, a led bulb... some fresnels
10:53 PM t4nk_freenode: perhaps some decent optics
10:53 PM t4nk_freenode: you could make a sweet projector I say
10:54 PM fjungclaus1 is now known as fjungclaus
10:55 PM t4nk_freenode: but like I said.. I want to find a way to start milling first, then I figure I can 'deliver some more precision construction'
10:56 PM t4nk_freenode: so now I can start thinking about buying some stepper motors, and some lead screws, what haveyou :)
10:56 PM t4nk_freenode: however.. I'd like Chinese prices with european delivery times
