01:39 AM Loetmichel: *shitshitshit* 2 months old project is now (against all odds) "hot" again... $me cant find the 3dcad files i made for the enclosure any more... I should REALLY organize my PC better :-(
01:44 AM Loetmichel: mornin' btw
02:15 AM Loetmichel: *ha* Found the files... thats what you get when you search for 3d.files and have actually made the enclosure in corel Draw back then.
02:49 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
03:19 AM Deejay: moin
05:03 AM Tom_L: morning
05:03 AM XXCoder: hey
05:05 AM jthornton: morning
05:06 AM XXCoder: hey
10:20 AM jymmmm: Good morning
10:22 AM Rab: Good morning!
10:47 AM Loetmichel: *FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU* thats the SECOND finger today with a bandaid. I HATE those xacto #11 blades. rammed it into the finger until it stuck in the bone... MAN am i clumsy sometimes. :-(
11:16 AM perry_j1987: ouch
11:16 AM perry_j1987: testing if you're alive?
11:17 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: amn dude, TO THE BONE?! what were you doing that you put THAT much force on it?
11:17 AM gregcnc: in the years that I've been around here. I'm surprised he's still alive
11:29 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: or has any fingers ledt
11:29 AM jymmmm: left*
11:31 AM unterhaus: I sliced myself pretty good with a #11 once. Hand slipped down the blade. Never poked myself with one, wouldn't be prudent
11:31 AM Loetmichel: Jymmm: reaching to something behind the knife and misjudging the height
11:32 AM Loetmichel: it was laying flat on the desk, with something heavy behind it and pointing towards me
11:32 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: i am lucky in my clumsyness: i never have "serious" injuries ;)
11:33 AM gregcnc: days since loetmichel has been injured on the job: 0
11:33 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: you dont even need a counter board for that. just print the sign that way ;)
11:41 AM Deejay: re
11:41 AM pink_vampire: Deejay: !!
12:29 PM Jymmm: Loetmichel: Ah , ok. Hope you are okey
12:30 PM miss0r2: bah.. I *KNOW* I have a mouthpiece for the vacuum cleaner that fits into my t-slots. but I cannot for the life of me find it at the moment!
12:30 PM Loetmichel: Jymmm: seen worse
12:30 PM Loetmichel: just another annoyance
12:31 PM Loetmichel: but thanks to the concern
12:46 PM Jymmm: Loetmichel: I just got some #10 and #11 scalpals for the first time, BLOODY sharp
12:46 PM Jymmm: no pun intended
12:47 PM Jymmm: They kinda put sxacto blades to shame
12:49 PM miss0r2: Would any of you guys know where I can get my hands on some brakewire by the meter? (The highly flexible steel wire that is inside a sleeve you have to mount at either end so you can "pull" around corners... I don't know the proper term - which doesn't realy make it easier to find anything :D
12:51 PM Jymmm: miss0r2: what's it used for? I dont know the term "brakewire" unless you mean "wire rope" using lke on a bicycle brake cable
12:52 PM miss0r2: Jymmm: That is basically it. I need to make a new brakewire/cable to connect the hand brake lever in my 101 land rover.
12:52 PM Jymmm: miss0r2: google "wire rope"
12:52 PM miss0r2: the original one is CRAZY expensive, because its is a push/pull type (basically a flat sheet wire)...
12:53 PM miss0r2: That returns alot of nice steel wire. but I need the kind that is inside a sleeve (plastic covered steel spiral)
12:53 PM Jymmm: https://www.uscargocontrol.com/shop/Rigging-Supplies-Hardware/Wire-Rope
12:54 PM Jymmm: miss0r2: you need the cable PLUS the sheeth ???
12:54 PM miss0r2: yeah
12:54 PM Jymmm: motorcycle supply
12:54 PM miss0r2: I'm hoping for some sort of kit or a place where I can get all the parts needed to "terminate" the ends of the sheeth ect
12:54 PM Jymmm: many times they have "universal" (cut to fit) stuff
12:55 PM miss0r2: I looked at it, but it would only seem I can find stuff there that is 2.5mm in thickness
12:55 PM miss0r2: I *think* I need atleast a 4mm wire
12:56 PM Jymmm: https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/parking-brake-cables
12:57 PM miss0r2: That looks about right. Thanks
12:57 PM Jymmm: =)
12:57 PM miss0r2: the original land rover one is $657us...
12:57 PM miss0r2: and it is only 3feet long
12:58 PM Jymmm: FUCK ME
12:58 PM Jymmm: that's just BS
12:59 PM miss0r2: yeah
12:59 PM miss0r2: Which is why I'm looking else where :)
01:01 PM Rab: Jymmm, I've used surgical scalpels since an early job as a hand bookbinder. Agreed the X-Acto stuff is junk by comparison. I think they end up a lot cheaper per blade, too, at least against the branded blades.
01:02 PM Rab: Plus the locking mechanism is way better than X-Acto's horrid aluminum collet thing.
01:04 PM Rab: Only downside is that the blade is more flexible and prone to breakage if flexed. And of course they will glide right through mortal flesh with no timely indication. ;)
01:14 PM net|: https://archive.org/details/softwarelibrary_msdos_games?tab=collection can play them for free online
01:29 PM Jymmm: Rab: Heh, yeah, but I also like the feel of the #3 blade in the hand as well
01:30 PM Jymmm: ...and doens't roll off the table
02:11 PM Loetmichel: Rab: a NEW xacto blade does that, too... i have the scars to tell ;)
02:13 PM Loetmichel: what i dont like about scalpel blades is the fact that they are pretty weak
02:14 PM Loetmichel: i like to pry and lever with my xacto blades. so far i break about one a day... scalpel blades wouldnt last a minute how i use them
02:14 PM Loetmichel: i agree that it would be the "cleaner" solution though
02:15 PM Loetmichel: plus: a scalpel blade would probably have not been stuck on the bone but broken off at extraction
02:15 PM Loetmichel: took surprising amount of force to pull the #11 out of my finger bone ;)
02:25 PM jdh: good for infections
02:46 PM t4nk_freenode: lol
02:47 PM t4nk_freenode: I just had a few eyes full of concrete myself when I tried to drill overhead
02:47 PM t4nk_freenode: *sigh*
02:47 PM XXCoder: goggles. not as evil as google
02:48 PM XXCoder: ;)
02:48 PM t4nk_freenode: yeh, I wore them afterwards... should have known ey
02:49 PM t4nk_freenode: but no matter, the one cm hole was all she wrote for tonight anyhow; I used a 'stone drill' instead of a concrete drill
02:49 PM t4nk_freenode: it was gone just like that, gonna buy me some decent drill tomorrow
03:53 PM Deejay: gn8
06:55 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, do you have a hammer drill?
07:27 PM Javabean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAkz1f2sMDU /me snickers
07:28 PM unterhaus: I was wondering if they were serious until the chemtrails
07:28 PM unterhaus: there are people out there selling 5g filters, right?
07:31 PM Javabean: dude, its a glorious dumpster fire... but bigclive is a good dude, just found a joke he could make with a mains "filter" he got off ebay... top recommended video should be him describing that board in detail and how it filters mains for use with audio equiptment
07:50 PM elmo40: filters what, spikes and induced harmonics in the 60Hz wave form?
07:51 PM Javabean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uItTnwgY8Ok this is the proper video he just did with the board
09:02 PM ziper: guys, i finally made and ran a program. however, the results weren't as good as i expected. I had one pass in parallel mode because that left the best finish down the middle of the part, and then another pass countouring around the edges. however, the second pass didn't actually remove any material
09:02 PM ziper: any ideas why?
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: ziper: post a pic of the finished part
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: did the passes overlap?
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: did the Z change between passes?
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: is the part flat?
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: what was holding the part?
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: etc etc
09:57 PM ziper: CaptHindsight, sorry, forgot to take pictures. no change in z. it was mostly flat. MDF held down by screws.
09:57 PM ziper: I don't really know what you mean by overlap
10:00 PM ziper: I set a little bit negative stock to leave and that helped, but I don't understand why that would be required
10:01 PM ziper: shouldnt the high parts left behind by the first operation have been well within the toolpath of the second op?
10:02 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/9OsNUi_o6C4?t=137
10:03 PM CaptHindsight: see how the later passes overlap the earlier passes
10:03 PM ziper: oh man i really thought that peice of aluminum was smaller until he picked it up
10:04 PM ziper: oh yeah and the tool is a ball end mill
10:07 PM ziper: so the idea is first I did this http://puu.sh/F9Jx9/823b588dfc.png and then this http://puu.sh/F9Jxl/8c0db1d9e4.jpg
10:07 PM ziper: does that make sense? I apologize if I am expressing myself poorly
10:49 PM elmo40: ziper, did the first photo cut everything out?
11:07 PM ziper: well, where the line is tangent to the curve it left large terraces
11:13 PM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
