12:56 AM _unreal_: Elmo40, the pully is less then it claimed to be size wise
01:01 AM _unreal_: so I'm a little baffled
01:41 AM Deejay: moin
02:04 AM Loetmichel: mornin'. Had to drive 10km detour today. The road thru the woods was blocked by fallen trees. Should really pack a chainsaw in my car :-)
02:05 AM XXCoder: nah
02:05 AM XXCoder: bring a logging truck with you everyday
02:05 AM XXCoder: that way you can haul wood home also
02:06 AM Loetmichel: that would be theft
02:07 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: you're not allowed to keep logs that fall on or near your car?
02:08 AM XXCoder: "oh those logs? it fell into my logging truck"
02:09 AM CaptHindsight: depending on what road the tree falls might determine who gets to keep the fallen tree
02:09 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: no
02:09 AM CaptHindsight: most fallen tree owners would welcome their removal
02:09 AM Loetmichel: this is germany. what did you think?
02:09 AM Loetmichel: ;)
02:10 AM CaptHindsight: inthe US
02:10 AM Loetmichel: and the owners would be the government
02:10 AM Loetmichel: woods usually belong to the country here
02:10 AM Loetmichel: they are only rented to foresters
02:10 AM CaptHindsight: trees from public land onto public road
02:11 AM CaptHindsight: if there is a local logging co leasing the land then yeah they would likely be upset about you taking off with a pile
02:12 AM Loetmichel: indeed
02:12 AM CaptHindsight: somewhere else public they would likely be upset that you didn't follow some tree blocking the road removal proceedure
02:13 AM CaptHindsight: flower, leaves, mushrooms they don't seem to care, but pull up a bush and it's crime time
02:13 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: i guess in america thats called "anfo and igniter" (the procedure)?
02:14 AM CaptHindsight: ammonium nitrate and fuel oil?
02:14 AM CaptHindsight: sound too terroristy
02:15 AM Loetmichel: isnt that the classic "stump removal" tool for farmers around there?
02:16 AM CaptHindsight: unlikely, they get jumpy if you buy too much fertilizer and they don't know you
02:17 AM CaptHindsight: stump puller trucks is more common now
02:17 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBAGm8CNs5Q
02:21 AM CaptHindsight: since 9-11 every liquid is scary around here
02:31 AM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/3wYF75Tamjk?t=338 handy tool
02:32 AM XXCoder: wonder whygrind em up rather than make firewood
02:39 AM SpeedEvil: Firewood can be hard to sell in many places
02:41 AM CaptHindsight: tree vodka
02:42 AM XXCoder: definitely possble
02:42 AM XXCoder: talkinmg about weird stuff
02:42 AM XXCoder: guy made co2 from diamonds then made co2 water with it
02:43 AM CaptHindsight: he likes dah fizz
03:08 AM Tom_L: morning
03:08 AM XXCoder: yo
03:09 AM XXCoder: capt that drink cost him around 500 bucks or so
03:09 AM XXCoder: he said it wasnt too great but expense makes it good lol right
03:10 AM pink_vampire: 3d printer + water =
03:12 AM XXCoder: ice
03:13 AM pink_vampire: I'm going to do a test print
03:13 AM pink_vampire: just to make sure it is dry and safe again
04:16 AM p0g0_: Loetmichel, amfos or KNO3, but there is a class of tool that will mill out a stump. From long experience clearing stumps with a bulldozer, timing is everything- wet soft soils make the job easy.
04:17 AM p0g0_: Here in the USA if private property blocks a road, that's a civil fine sort of thing, not an dialog about who took my tree.
04:19 AM p0g0_: The US laws about tree theft suck anyway, I can steal my neighbors trees and all he can do is get me in a courtroom and try for 2 to 3x $value penalty. That's such a low bar that minor theft, poaching along property lines and such, that's common in the logging crowd.
04:47 AM Loetmichel: p0g0_: same here, but you cant transport it off the premises without permission of the land owner, you have to deposit it at the side of the road
04:49 AM p0g0_: I'd guess that same is true here, but I've never seen a valuable tree fallen across a public road be the basis of a dispute- I expect that could happen tho.
05:49 AM jthornton: morning
05:49 AM XXCoder: hey
05:52 AM Loetmichel: hmm, seems 150% feed override @ 60mm sec is a BIT much for an ender3... that looks seriously underextruded: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17675&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:30 AM pink_vampire: Loetmichel: try to increase the "Flow" to 120%
06:31 AM pink_vampire: Loetmichel: https://i.imgur.com/Lqodmgu.png
06:39 AM Loetmichel: pink_vampire: thats not it, you can hear the extruder skipping at 150%
06:39 AM Deejay: hi
06:40 AM Loetmichel: it just cant melt enough material
06:40 AM Loetmichel: moin Deejay
06:41 AM pink_vampire: try to bump the hotend temperature
06:41 AM pink_vampire: what material is that?
07:12 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest64116
07:22 AM BitEvil is now known as speedevil
08:38 AM veegee: Hmm are there any split beam torque wrenches in the 1 - 20 ish Nm range?
09:46 AM Elmo40: veegee, that is for 1/4" drive?
09:46 AM veegee: Yeah
09:48 AM Elmo40: i recommend dial type.
09:49 AM Elmo40: up to 9Nm
09:49 AM Elmo40: https://qurl.org/OoV
09:50 AM Elmo40: up to 30Nm
09:51 AM Elmo40: https://qurl.org/PoV
09:51 AM Elmo40: way more accurate than a clicking type (split or spring loaded)
09:53 AM jymmmm: good morning
10:00 AM Elmo40: moo
10:20 AM unterhaus: I need to upgrade my monster torque wrench. It's a clicker style. I think it's reasonably accurate, but it's nearly impossible for me to read the setting
10:21 AM unterhaus: For low torque, I have a CDI clicker style that takes1/4" hex bits and I'm pretty happy with it
11:00 AM unterhaus: huh, ebay seller used priority mail but no tracking number. A bit annoying
11:05 AM unterhaus: I'm going to go look at one of my moore grinder heads. Hopefully I don't drop it on my head again
11:14 AM unterhaus: huh, model number is Moore 80k, not too useful
11:16 AM unterhaus: looks like it's probably an RM30
11:24 AM unterhaus: found a sold 40k on ebay, will not sell to canadians because they are too abusive :)
11:33 AM gregcnc: colletking?
11:36 AM unterhaus: yup
11:36 AM unterhaus: I remember him from more active time on ebay
11:36 AM gregcnc: he's been listing more recently. i've been to his place once
11:37 AM gregcnc: he was selling a small clausing mill at the back of his shop, with stuff piled everywhere between it and the door. no idea how he go it out
11:37 AM unterhaus: someone sold a used rm30 for 825 usd, which is a pretty good deal assuming it still works
11:38 AM unterhaus: there is a guy who sells calibration spheres for cmms. My understanding is that there are certain things you can order from them where they have to find the machine
11:39 AM unterhaus: although he was ill and his son didn't really seem too interested in the business
11:41 AM unterhaus: website still there though
11:42 AM gregcnc: my cousins weren't interested in a turnkey machine shop worth millions. oh well
11:43 AM gregcnc: i understand dealing weed is easier than running a shop
11:44 AM unterhaus: that's horrible
11:44 AM unterhaus: same thing happened to the local hardware store
11:44 AM gregcnc: well the other went military
11:45 AM unterhaus: although I'm not sure about the weed dealing, but they didn't want to deal with the business
11:45 AM unterhaus: It looks like they converted to mostly cnc, which is probably more sustainable
11:46 AM unterhaus: although I'm not sure how good a ball can be made on a cnc, it takes some magic grinding to get them down to a reasonable error
11:47 AM gregcnc: ball?
11:51 AM Deejay: re
11:52 AM gregcnc: I have a starter to replace in the car. what a pain.
11:53 AM unterhaus: gregcnc cmms are typically checked by probing a sphere or a number of spheres
11:55 AM unterhaus: making anything close to true sphere is very difficult. The Austrailians tried to do it to produce a standard kg, but they got overtaken by the watt balance
11:55 AM gregcnc: gauge quality I expect, like https://www.precisionballs.com
11:56 AM unterhaus: I remember them saying what their equator error was, it wasn't quite as good as the ones our sponsor made for spindle metrology
11:56 AM unterhaus: but you don't need a sphere for spindles, just the equator has to be perfect
11:57 AM unterhaus: that's the company I was talking about. I have a micrometer stand made with 3 of their balls so it is kinematic
11:58 AM unterhaus: I like the president's page. I loved talking to Gene, he's a hoot. https://www.baltecballs.com/presidents_corner.php
11:59 AM unterhaus: I was trying to find his rant about spindle metrology balls but I can't think of where it is
01:17 PM veegee: Elmo40 that looks perfect, thanks!
01:22 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: it never ceases to amaze me how auto designers can manage to tuck staters into next to impossible to access locations
01:23 PM CaptHindsight: staters/starters
01:48 PM gregcnc: yeah to be "easy" this one needs the intake manifold pulled. supposedly it's possible without
01:49 PM CaptHindsight: I have a lift so friends will ask for help just swapping a starter...
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: 30 minute project in my mind turns into half a day for them
01:50 PM gregcnc: this is the bmw I just put the engine in. i was expecting much more than 2 months from it or i would have put in a new one.
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: my favorite are the ones your fingers can reach but you can see any of the involved fasteners
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: can/can't
01:51 PM gregcnc: yeah this one is tight
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: figures on the starter, they rebuild so poorly
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: don't feel bad, I usually will preventative part repalcement on a new used car...
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: I have replaced some parts only to have them fail quickly
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: the original parts would have lasted longer
01:54 PM gregcnc: these are not known to fail. I had the one that was in the car it looked pretty clean, certainly cleaner than the one on the donor engine.
01:55 PM gregcnc: so the question is do i put another one in of the same age or get a rebuilt
01:56 PM CaptHindsight: if I were you I'd bring it in to the rebuilder in Algonquin
01:56 PM gregcnc: maybe do that, yeah my dad uses him
01:56 PM gregcnc: dc power, something else now
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, I get my odd auto electrical parts from them
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: they do a good job
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: i have little success with rebuilt from the auto parts stores
01:58 PM gregcnc: I still have to check that the solenoid is actually getting power, but it pretty much has to be. not even a click
01:59 PM CaptHindsight: just checked, same company name now
01:59 PM gregcnc: ah ok
02:03 PM gregcnc: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7sn1UhAnbc/ https://www.instagram.com/p/B73VrezAksO/ milled and welded pipe this looks nice
02:04 PM CaptHindsight: somebody can weld :)
02:06 PM CaptHindsight: 1 inch wide passes is impressive
02:09 PM gregcnc: i never tried measuring starter or solenoid current. The spare takes ~6v and 22A for the solenoid. 47A to the motor only gets it spinning to 5-6V.
02:10 PM gregcnc: 22A to activate the solenoid at 12V it's must be 50A
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: I often just swap solenoid contacts and the brushes when easily accessed
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: my last rebuilt came with the power and torque curves from the bench test
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: forget the brand
02:42 PM Elmo40: veegee, don't thank me. Thank MacTools.
03:07 PM veegee: I mean that's an insanely expensive unit, but I can find similar for 1/3 the price
04:05 PM skunkworks: gregcnc: the machining of the joints are pretty cool too... how was that done?
04:10 PM gregcnc: not sure, there was another photo in the account of the pipe prior to welding. looks 5axis, but maybe not
04:11 PM Deejay: gn8
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: was wondering about that as well about the tubes
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: what are the tubes for?
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: super duper roll cage, mil spec?
04:17 PM gregcnc: no idea, looks expensive, like tax payer dollars expensive
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: yeah
04:34 PM sync: gregcnc: nah, most likely it's for some petrochemical plant
04:35 PM gregcnc: yeah I could see that
04:35 PM gregcnc: nuclear was in the back of my mind
04:37 PM sync: there is only one NPP in the nederlands
04:38 PM gregcnc: hah didn't pay attention to the name
04:40 PM CaptHindsight: amazing what thay can get done while still wearing those wooden shoes
04:42 PM roycroft: klompen can actually be rather comfortable, and are not as heavy as steel-toed boots, while offering a similar amount of protection
04:48 PM unterhaus: can't get a chip through the sole of one of them either
04:49 PM sync: that's why you wear safety boots with no steel in them
04:49 PM sync: I was suprised when I bought my new boots how comfortable and light they are now
04:52 PM gregcnc: kevlar now?
04:53 PM sync: there are composite toe caps, but most of them are alu
04:54 PM sync: the penetration proof layer in the sole usually is kevlar, yes
04:57 PM Tom_L: what type do you get to avoid coolant ruining them in a month?
04:59 PM sync: not having coolant on the floor
04:59 PM Tom_L: the machines are big enough you about have to crawl in them to load the toumbstones
04:59 PM sync: but I did not have issues with any of them dissolving yet
04:59 PM Tom_L: the floors are clean
05:00 PM sync: that's when you press the knob and the new pallet with the preset tombstone swings in
05:01 PM Tom_L: they have work cells and conveyors for machine groups
05:01 PM Tom_L: you still end up gettting them soaked when you gotta clean em out
05:07 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.machinedesign.com/3d-printing-cad/article/21122653/top-11-myths-of-cnc-machining
05:07 PM CaptHindsight: heh have to add this to the thread on replacing LCNC
06:17 PM andypugh: CaptHindsight: Of course, back when I was a lad, printing was not that simple either.
06:18 PM andypugh: We used to churn out a few hundred copies of a newspaper using a Gestener as the printer. That took skill and mechanical acumen.
06:20 PM jthornton: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestetner
06:44 PM _unreal_: sup
06:44 PM CaptHindsight: andypugh: hey just getting back to your slicng/viewing code
06:45 PM CaptHindsight: was installing qtpyvcp again just last night to make a gui
06:48 PM andypugh: It would probably find a ready market if comverted to run in Fusion360 rather than Inventor.
06:48 PM andypugh: I wonder how hard that would be?
06:51 PM CaptHindsight: my focus is more on the getting slices to appear on one display while LCNC moves and axis or two
06:51 PM CaptHindsight: all in sync
06:51 PM elmo40: veegee, who offers this style of tool?
06:52 PM _unreal_: I just got a SWEET LED goose neck lamp from goodwill
06:52 PM _unreal_: $2 and its JUST like the one I have on my current machine
06:52 PM _unreal_: I think the one on my current machine is better by a little but what ever
06:53 PM _unreal_: Cant complain thought its got nice lighting, the goose neck is perfect and it has mounting screw holes and a metal base.
06:53 PM _unreal_: and a SHIT load of wire
06:59 PM _unreal_: ve7it, make it go faster, the mail delivery people are being asswholes
06:59 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I'm so tired of waiting
07:02 PM _unreal_: WOW https://aliexpress.ru/item/4000343031770.html
07:04 PM andypugh: Clock in the knob is a noce touch
07:05 PM CaptHindsight: clock radio DMM
07:07 PM andypugh: I am almost tempted.
07:12 PM CaptHindsight: good enough for general testing
07:12 PM CaptHindsight: ~$80 USD
07:17 PM andypugh: £55. Prices always look better in pounds.
07:17 PM andypugh: Or, better still, 21.3 Kuwait Dinar
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: 1.65 million Viet Dong
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: 30K : £1
07:20 PM CaptHindsight: andypugh: I've only run inventor how does 360 compare?
07:21 PM andypugh: 360 is cheaper, and more different than you might expect. But if you can use Inventor you can pick up Fusion.
07:22 PM andypugh: Fusion rather expects you to share sketches between parts, whereas Inventor allows that.
07:23 PM CaptHindsight: are their file formats similar?
07:23 PM CaptHindsight: for the models
07:23 PM _unreal_: heh amazing how many people click the link
07:23 PM _unreal_: I posted that in a few rooms
07:24 PM _unreal_: quickly becomes the talk of the moment
07:24 PM CaptHindsight: strange enough product
07:24 PM andypugh: _unreal_: Well, it was aliexpress so unlikely to be anything unpleasant.
07:25 PM andypugh: CaptHindsight: No, completely different. Though 360 can import Inventor (via “cloud” translation)
07:26 PM andypugh: I have switched to 360 now as my Inventor licence expired. But up to then I was designing in Inventor then importing to 360 for the CAM.
07:26 PM andypugh: 360 CAM is better than the free level of Inventor CAM.

08:55 PM fungus40: Testing... Testing...
08:55 PM fungus40: Bingo! Ok, good evening(morning?) folks.
08:55 PM infornography: ello
08:56 PM fungus40: I'm working on a lathe conversion I recently completed, and I've hit on add situation with M0 (pause) codes.
08:57 PM fungus40: If even a single M0 command is entered, it causes LinuxCNC to pause on every line.
08:57 PM fungus40: From the docs, I cannot find anything that indicates that M0 requires a cancel code.
08:59 PM Tom_L: just a resume signal
09:00 PM fungus40: Just as a sanity check... Does hitting the "Play" icon in the gui (or "R" on the keyboard) count as this resume signal?
09:00 PM Tom_L: possibly
09:00 PM fungus40: (I'm using AXIS)
09:01 PM Tom_L: the || pause resume button
09:01 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/gui/axis.html
09:04 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/man/man1/halui.1.html

09:04 PM Tom_L: halui.program.resume bit in
09:04 PM Tom_L: pin for resuming a program
09:10 PM fungus40: Yeebus. I feel like an idiot now. The "P" key on my keyboard was stuck.
09:11 PM fungus40: I don't know how I even logged into the thing.
09:11 PM fungus40: Thanks for your help Tom.
