01:48 AM Deejay: moin
03:24 AM Loetmichel: *meh* just soldering with L-SN95.5Ag3.8Cu0.7 for the first time... MAN are those solder joints garbage looking. that doesent get the hopes high for the ordered Ag3.5Cu1. :-(
04:21 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
04:58 AM jthornton: morning
04:59 AM Tom_L: morning
04:59 AM Tom_L: rain/sleet
05:00 AM jthornton: A chance of snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet before 10am, then a chance of freezing rain between 10am and 11am, then rain showers likely after 11am
05:01 AM XXCoder: fun
05:04 AM jthornton: gotta build a door today for the chicken coop
05:05 AM XXCoder: making new coop or?
05:05 AM XXCoder: ah so it is
05:05 AM jthornton: converting 1/2 of the garden shed into a coop
05:06 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlR3lZc2x9c
05:06 AM jthornton: a bit shaky with the phone...
05:11 AM SpeedEvil: Remember that chickens give off a lot of moisture, so expect everything to rust.
05:12 AM jthornton: that's why I have lots of ventilation in the shed now to prevent frostbite
05:13 AM p0g0: ammonia, urea, mites, feathers... and they want an upright or convex wall, wider at the top, no A frames.
05:13 AM jthornton: https://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/12x16-coop/louvers-01.jpg
05:13 AM jthornton: who is "they"
05:13 AM p0g0: your chickens
05:14 AM p0g0: They cannot roost well in A frames
05:14 AM p0g0: they can't get their wings out to loft to the roost
05:14 AM jthornton: I suppose so if the roost is up too high in an A frame it could be an issue
05:15 AM p0g0: I am a witness...
05:15 AM jthornton: my neighbor has several A frames but the roost is not too high in them
05:16 AM p0g0: got local skunks, stoats, weasels, or the like?
05:16 AM p0g0: foxes are over=rated...
05:18 AM jthornton: we have feral dogs, coyotes, possum, raccoon, fox, skunk, feral cats, hawks, eagles, vultures, and I'm sure I'm leaving out a few
05:19 AM p0g0: well, the big animals are usually easy enough, it's the sneaky thin ones that always gave us trouble.
05:20 AM jthornton: yea weasels can slip through a pretty small hole but I've found that none of them care to get my electric shock therapy and just run away screaming
05:20 AM * SpeedEvil thinks of https://static1.e621.net/data/c1/1e/c11ec3a8827e771d08941a21830c07b9.jpg
05:21 AM p0g0: tho I recall a milking mother fox that was awesomely brazen, walked right past me, nailed a chicken, and strutted off with it.
05:21 AM jthornton: my neighbor has a game cam photo of a fox standing on a box behind her
05:22 AM p0g0: jthornton, yeah, that works- tho I recall seeing a turkey once nail a grasshopper on an electric fence, I'd caution you to not electrocute your own animals.
05:22 AM jthornton: I'm not dense...
05:23 AM p0g0: Your animals are a bit tho...
05:23 AM p0g0: no offense intended here, btw
05:23 AM jthornton: they are pretty dumb for sure
05:24 AM p0g0: I've stitched massive wounds in horses that ran tru fneces just because...
05:24 AM p0g0: eh, *through fences
05:33 AM jthornton: I need to get that coop done and start building some cold frames
06:20 AM XXCoder: interesting jig to round ends of bars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GHyuiTF1G4
06:32 AM jthornton: would have had a centered radius if he had slotted the jig to fit the bars
06:34 AM XXCoder: yeah though hes probably wanting it for other uses too
06:34 AM XXCoder: lucky its low sensivity feature anyway
06:39 AM jthornton: nice scissor lift
06:40 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:40 AM XXCoder: quite adhopc build
06:40 AM XXCoder: *adhoc
07:23 AM Loetmichel: quite fun build
07:23 AM Loetmichel: been there done that for a monitor stand
07:24 AM Loetmichel: a lot less sophisticated though
07:24 AM XXCoder: yeah? whole thing lift and lower, or inside stand to move screen only?
07:25 AM jthornton: so I tell the wife be careful driving to work this morning might be ice or sleet on the roads, she says the weatherman says it will go north of us... she opens the kitchen door and says shit the deck is covered in sleet
07:25 AM XXCoder: lol
07:25 AM XXCoder: bit funny here, my drive from work to home is just 14 minutes, work its raining, here at home its ice everywhere
07:26 AM Loetmichel: whole stand with a scissor
07:26 AM Loetmichel: but only for 200mm lift or so
07:26 AM jymmmm: Covered in snow here
07:27 AM Loetmichel: once my website works again i will give you some pics
07:27 AM XXCoder: interesting
07:28 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: Did you forget to refill the http hopper?
07:28 AM Loetmichel: more like: shitty hoster.
07:28 AM XXCoder: nah he forogt to feed hamster
07:29 AM Loetmichel: so much for "business hoster, 99.99% uptime guranteed
07:29 AM Loetmichel: "
07:30 AM Loetmichel: ... approx once every month its down for a few minutes/hours
07:30 AM Elmo40: 99.9% daily uptime.
07:31 AM Elmo40: maybe 87% annual uptime
07:31 AM Loetmichel: and no, its not my sever alone... the whole hoster including his own website is down :-(
07:31 AM Loetmichel: Elmo40: yeah, sounds about right :-(
07:36 AM Elmo40: then pay them 87% of what they ask ;-)
07:42 AM Loetmichel: thats still 39 eur including vat... a month :_)
07:46 AM Elmo40: ouch!
07:46 AM XXCoder: damn forgot my rpi4 password lol
07:46 AM Elmo40: i've done that!!
07:47 AM Elmo40: with my router, too...
07:48 AM jthornton: raspberry
07:49 AM XXCoder: http://mapledyne.com/ideas/2015/8/4/reset-lost-admin-password-for-raspberry-pi cool
07:50 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: https://youtu.be/-aOYskiWNnU <- found a video of it
07:50 AM XXCoder: looking
07:50 AM Loetmichel: while waiting for my server to recover ;)
07:50 AM XXCoder: pretty good
07:50 AM XXCoder: little too fine thread maybe?
07:50 AM Loetmichel: yes, its M8
07:51 AM Loetmichel: TR8*3 would have been better
07:57 AM Loetmichel: never got out of the prototype state though
07:57 AM Loetmichel: customer decided thats to many "finger piching places" for his soldiers
08:06 AM XXCoder: oh too bad
08:07 AM XXCoder: maybe if it was inside, it being internals of screen stand that can fine adjust screen position
08:07 AM Loetmichel: that WAS the screen stand
08:08 AM Loetmichel: the two blocks on top are the swivel for back and forth
08:09 AM Loetmichel: *GIGGLE* just touched the hot air guns nozzle... *sizzle* [$me cussing out loud]... bosses wife came by: "oh god, what happened, do you need some burn ointment?" $me:"nah, wasnt that hot, just 450°C, i am not that wimpy." ... her face: priceless :-)
08:11 AM XXCoder: I know, what I meant is more internal and no exposed finger shorteners
08:12 AM Loetmichel: could have made a bellows for it
08:13 AM Loetmichel: but they went with modified HP stands
08:31 AM beachbumpete1: Morning
08:42 AM XXCoder: jthornton: board is working
08:42 AM XXCoder: but it seem to be on or off only
09:05 AM jthornton: hmm
11:32 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: server runs again: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=10791&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:33 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=10788&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:33 AM Loetmichel: i KNEW i had a couple pictures of that lift ;)
02:01 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
02:10 PM miss0r2: lol. I just transfered a 4500ish line gcode to my cnc. Apparently I sent "end program" too fast from the terminal. The machine thought that there were 973 seprate programs following the one I just sent, because of buffer...
02:10 PM miss0r2: and no way of selecting more than one at a time and delete... *sigh* :D Don't you just love old tech
02:11 PM miss0r2: never mind buffer. I just did it again.
02:12 PM miss0r2: It is because all lines are named NXXXX (where X is the line number). Apparently all numbers from N9000 to N9999 are considered program names. FFS !
02:12 PM miss0r2: Why did I ever choose to skip every second line?!
02:13 PM jym: miss0r2: LMAO, You know, they also have 56K modems now, so you don't have to use that 2400 baud anymore =)
02:13 PM miss0r2: jym: HEY ! I upgraded. 9600, thank you very much :D
02:14 PM miss0r2: and it only takes ~1 minut to transfer the program now... BUT it takes forever to delete all the wrong ones
02:14 PM jym: miss0r2: HAve the very first 1.4 intel modem ever made still
02:15 PM jym: 14.4*
02:15 PM miss0r2: I have one of those in the basement too.. Not an intel, though.
02:15 PM miss0r2: I can't for the life of me recall the brand
02:15 PM Tom_L: us robotics 300baud
02:16 PM miss0r2: Tom_L: Give me a jug of coffee and I can TYPE faster than that ;)
02:16 PM jym: Tom_L: I got rid of all ISA stuff long ago
02:16 PM jym: miss0r2: be half asleep and can STILl type faster than 300 baud
02:16 PM miss0r2: jym: Showoff
02:17 PM jym: miss0r2: No, I mena YOU too
02:17 PM miss0r2: hardly ;)
02:17 PM jym: 300 is DAWG slow, ANYONE can type faster than 300
02:20 PM miss0r2: thats like 30 characters per second...
02:20 PM miss0r2: or am I way off base here?
02:22 PM beachbumpete1: Damn 4pm just can't get here fast enough hehehe
02:24 PM Tom_L: why? you goin to the beach you bum...
02:25 PM miss0r2: beachbumpete1: Have you managed to get the spindle in order?
02:26 PM beachbumpete1: why hell no
02:26 PM beachbumpete1: its making me ill
02:26 PM beachbumpete1: LOL
02:26 PM beachbumpete1: over a grand worth of brand new bearings
02:26 PM beachbumpete1: probably shot to hell
02:27 PM beachbumpete1: Tom_L: no but I do want to take the wife out to dinner
02:27 PM beachbumpete1: and get home to check on my 3D printed parts for my electric cello
02:28 PM methods_: bad spindle bearings ouch
02:29 PM methods_: always brings a tear to the eye and more for the wallet
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: beachbumpete1: well you'll see when you get the time to take it apart and inspect
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: might not be bad
02:31 PM miss0r2: wow... I just broke a workpeice only 15 seconds into operations.. What a strange delight for once
02:45 PM beachbumpete1: Yeah man I tore it down two times now trying to figure it out. I am gonna give it hell one more time this weekend and hope for the best.
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: oh,w did it look after the first teardown after new bearings?
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: w/how
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: well honestly I only partially took it down it is not a cartridge spindle
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: it goes up into the millhead casting
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: bearings, races, etc. etc.
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: wish it was a cartridge
02:47 PM CaptHindsight: yeah
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: gaah
02:47 PM beachbumpete1: Im so pissed about it
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: you're pretty good about watching what you do
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: order of parts installed, direction things should face etc
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: how noisy is it over 2k rpm?
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: at least you'll see if anything looks worn on the new stuff
03:04 PM JT-Shop: chair is much better since I welded it back together where it was splitting in half
03:05 PM SpeedEvil: :)
03:14 PM * JT-Shop says screw work the rest of the day and plugs in some tiny whoop batteries into the charger
03:16 PM beachbumpete1: CaptHindsight: I am typically very careful about thins especially when I know there is over 1k on the line LOL
03:17 PM beachbumpete1: I will tear into it tongiht maybe or tomorrow. Talk to you later.
03:53 PM miss0r2: first setup almost done.. I just found out I managed to miscalculate the tip offset for the chamfer tool.. it leaves an edge.. :D Luckily that is easily mendable with a second pass, but still
03:53 PM miss0r2: It would be odd if this job should just work with no issues.
03:53 PM miss0r2: That would be a first anyway
03:54 PM miss0r2: I do love this new coolant pump.. but it makes it hard to see what is going on in there :D
03:58 PM miss0r2: I seriously don't know why mastercam always has to make this so hard...
04:12 PM Deejay: gn8
04:44 PM _unreal_: hello
04:45 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I'm very tempted to buy that electro craft motor
04:46 PM Jymmm: BOAT = Buck Out Another Thousand =)
04:47 PM _unreal_: ?
04:47 PM _unreal_: Jymmm, servo
04:51 PM andypugh: This just failed to sell at 99p and has been relisted. Looks like a bargain (though I note that there is a reserve) https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/223859332614
04:53 PM andypugh: And, similarly, I bought this because, well, just because. Any thoughts on what I should do with it? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133261830934
04:56 PM miss0r2: meh. I think the chamfer tip compensation in my mastercam is broken
04:57 PM miss0r2: I had to define a contour, disable tool compensation and tell it where it needed to be for it to work. That is what the chamfer contour tool is supposed to do :-/
04:58 PM Elmo40: sounds odd. why would mastercam be 'broken' for a chamfer tool?
04:58 PM miss0r2: I don't know. But no matter what I am doing it ends up creating a 'step' on the workpeice
04:58 PM miss0r2: as in, it does not take into account the flat tip of the tool, which is quite clearly defined
04:59 PM andypugh: Maybe it is assuming a larger overall diameter?
04:59 PM andypugh: Ah, step at the lower edge?
04:59 PM miss0r2: andypugh: well, I've been over the tool setup a million times, and it all checks out. I don't know why it would get that idea
05:00 PM miss0r2: yeah, exactly
05:00 PM Elmo40: i remember that issue. it doesnt 'know' there is a flat and does the tool offset thinking it is a point... i can't remember how we resolved that one.
05:00 PM andypugh: It may not consider the flat at all. Maybe it assumes a point. Though that seems silly.
05:00 PM miss0r2: yeah, especially since it is defined in the tool library
05:01 PM miss0r2: Elmo40: I would owe you a cookie if you somehow remembered :D
05:01 PM Elmo40: which tool are you calling up?
05:01 PM miss0r2: erh? I don't understand that question :)
05:02 PM miss0r2: I cannot imagine you are referring to 'tool 7' :)
05:03 PM Elmo40: i think we finally went with a woodruff cutter with an obscenely large edge taper.
05:03 PM Elmo40: no, the definition in mastercam
05:03 PM miss0r2: "chfr mill"
05:04 PM Elmo40: that was the one we had issues with.
05:04 PM miss0r2: glad to hear.
05:04 PM miss0r2: :D
05:04 PM Elmo40: try a different one.
05:05 PM miss0r2: Hmm.. Not realy another one that meets me demands I think
05:05 PM andypugh: It allows edge taper on a Woodruff cutter? OK, so it’s just software, but if it has a taper it’s hopeless as an actual Woodruff key cutter.
05:05 PM Elmo40: i do believe we used woodruff, but gave it a large chamfer. or we went with an insert holder and defined a 45deg square insert. been 12+ years now!
05:06 PM Elmo40: andypugh, yes. i know
05:06 PM Elmo40: but some come with a small radius
05:06 PM miss0r2: hehe. I will see if I can do something like that
05:08 PM XXCoder: Loetmichel: sadly down now
05:08 PM miss0r2: hello XXCoder
05:08 PM XXCoder: hey
05:10 PM miss0r2: it would seem I can design a facemill to look right
05:27 PM miss0r2: Elmo40: Defining it as an engraving tool worked. Odd that
05:30 PM XXCoder: design a facemill?
05:30 PM miss0r2: no.. Its just mastercam acting up with its compensation using chamfer mills
05:30 PM miss0r2: for some odd reason
05:36 PM miss0r2: FUDGEMEISTER !
05:36 PM Elmo40: now, if mastercam would get into the additive manufacturing...
05:37 PM miss0r2: I missed that one contour was on the outside ! ! !
05:38 PM miss0r2: photo comming
05:39 PM miss0r2: Notive lower right chamfer... its a tad bigger than planned: https://imgur.com/a/4mi3Ect
05:39 PM miss0r2: notice*
05:39 PM miss0r2: That's it. I'm going to bed :D
05:40 PM * miss0r2 is getting a sneeking suspicion I took the last chamfer tool the last time I changed it and didn't order new ones...
05:41 PM miss0r2: phew.. I have another one. Atleast by tomorrow I will have worked out the chinks
05:42 PM miss0r2: also: the sad looking surface on the side of the "heat sinks" protruding is a reflection of the tool path at the bottom of the slot - just wanted to clarify that :)
05:44 PM XXCoder: doh thats rather large chamfer.
05:45 PM miss0r2: yeah.. cost the workpeice & the tool to make it that big that fast :D
05:45 PM miss0r2: sh*t happens. atleast I don't have a client waiting for it.. Its just something of my own I'm messing with
05:46 PM XXCoder: not as bad as one of large "bones" at work
05:46 PM XXCoder: cant discribe it, it has confidental designs
05:47 PM XXCoder: anyway guy was fired because he scrapped 2 in row
05:47 PM miss0r2: Sounds like he was on his way out anyway? or is the workpiece insanely expensive or something?
05:47 PM XXCoder: 2 of em together you could buy 3 new car
05:47 PM jthornton: holy crap
05:48 PM XXCoder: its 3 foot long titanium cast part
05:48 PM XXCoder: longer than that a little. 3.5?
05:49 PM XXCoder: anyway if it was different mistakes he wouldnt be fired, but he did
05:49 PM XXCoder: *same
05:49 PM miss0r2: damn
05:51 PM XXCoder: if I was asked to work on it, I would say no lol
05:51 PM pfred1: work on it!
05:53 PM Elmo40: miss0r2, it almost looks like you had the wrong radius offset
05:53 PM Elmo40: left instead of right...
05:53 PM miss0r2: Elmo40: I basically had choosen to work on the wrong side of the contour..
05:54 PM miss0r2: I usualy see that a mile away, but I must have been preoccupied with the tool error
05:56 PM miss0r2: I guess its just one of those days. Anyway, i'll call it a night. Its allmost 1 AM...
05:56 PM miss0r2: See you around & thanks for the help Elmo40
05:57 PM XXCoder: later mi
06:03 PM _unreal_: ok I just produced my bearing block mounts for my cnc machine well the first 4 for one side of my cnc
06:03 PM _unreal_: preping to mill
06:06 PM jthornton: XXCoder, do you have to pulse the laser to get lighter burns?
06:06 PM XXCoder: looks like? or maybe firmware just needs update
06:07 PM jthornton: ah
06:07 PM XXCoder: problem is im unwilling to flash update till i figure how to backit up
06:07 PM * jthornton wanders upstairs to relax
06:07 PM jthornton: I know the ramps board you can't back up what's on there
06:08 PM pfred1: firmware update is always a clencher
06:08 PM XXCoder: its arudino nano
06:08 PM jthornton: if you don't have the program your screwed
06:08 PM XXCoder: not sure how to extract firmware
06:08 PM jthornton: yea you need a copy of the program
06:08 PM XXCoder: i backed up eeprom
06:08 PM jthornton: you can't AFAIK
06:10 PM XXCoder: i tried https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=403201.0 but didnt work
06:15 PM pfred1: you used the ICSP header?
06:20 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, what are you trying to do?
06:20 PM pfred1: I think he's trying to backup his old firmware
06:21 PM pfred1: on an Arduino
06:22 PM Tom_L: jthornton, why can't you back up a ramps firmware?
06:23 PM jthornton: not figured out how
06:23 PM jthornton: it's not straight forward
06:23 PM Tom_L: you can but i forgot how, it's been so long
06:23 PM Tom_L: you need an isp programmer to do it
06:23 PM jthornton: lol
06:24 PM pfred1: you can make an ISP programmer out of another arduino
06:24 PM pfred1: it is like firemware inception
06:24 PM Tom_L: i don't need one, i made my own
06:25 PM Tom_L: i just don't mess with avrs much anymore
06:25 PM pfred1: I don't mess with much of anything anymore
06:25 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, to do that you need to use linux and from the console type a short command
06:25 PM _unreal_: I forget at this moment
06:26 PM jdh: I have boxes and garages full of shit I don't mess around with anymore
06:26 PM Tom_L: use avrdude to back it up
06:26 PM _unreal_: and you AVRdude !! thats it
06:26 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, i used to make avr programmers
06:27 PM pfred1: I just buy them out of China
06:27 PM Tom_L: where do you think china got them ?
06:27 PM pfred1: they don't seem worth it to make
06:27 PM Tom_L: back then, i called one guy on it
06:27 PM Tom_L: probably not anymore
06:28 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/USBTiny_Mkii_index.php
06:28 PM pfred1: they're selling nanos for $1.70
06:28 PM Tom_L: i even put a recovery clock on it for when you brick the avr
06:29 PM pfred1: wow i can't even find a decent socketed one
06:29 PM pfred1: socketed DIPs went the way of the dodo
06:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/how_to/atmega168/using_avrdude_index.php
06:31 PM Tom_L: there are several command line options to use with avrdude
06:31 PM pfred1: there always are
06:31 PM Tom_L: i meant to say, i posted several
06:32 PM pfred1: I need to start a github page
06:32 PM pfred1: this script I wrote is brilliant
06:54 PM _unreal_: pfred1, well be the judge of that ;)
06:54 PM pfred1: nah it kicks ass
06:55 PM pfred1: I wrote a script that makes a playlist of every music file in a directory tree and my player shuffles through it
06:55 PM pfred1: it's endless music
06:55 PM pfred1: and oddly my PC seems to make great choices what to play it's liek the best DJ on the planet
06:56 PM _unreal_: I remember when I use to be all into napster
06:56 PM _unreal_: back in the GOOD old days
06:56 PM pfred1: I DL songs off youtube
06:57 PM _unreal_: :P those are give aways
06:57 PM pfred1: youtube-dl -f 251 "URL" then ffmpeg -i "file" "file.mp3"
06:58 PM pfred1: bingo endless free content
06:59 PM W1N9Zr0: youtube-dl also has a --extract-audio flag which does this without transcoding
06:59 PM pfred1: nice
06:59 PM _unreal_: ve7it, you around?
07:00 PM _unreal_: pfred1, you have been 1up'ed
07:00 PM pfred1: all of this reminds me of a song I want to find
07:13 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: backup firmware
07:16 PM CaptHindsight: Elmo40: what would you want mastercam to bring to additive manufacturing?
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: pfred1: we just got a new super-duper sound card and it has a socketed 8p-dip for flash
07:21 PM _unreal_: making my lead screw bearing retainers
07:23 PM CaptHindsight: not using a snap ring?
07:23 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, talking to me?
07:24 PM CaptHindsight: the Chinese use a over sized hole and let them flop around :)
07:24 PM _unreal_: I'm going exact
07:24 PM _unreal_: any one milling anything interesting?
07:25 PM CaptHindsight: https://postimg.cc/w1bvqpWk 1mm over so it doesn't get stuck
07:26 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, what does the rest of the machine look like
07:26 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, and my bearing retainers are a floating style
07:27 PM XXCoder: not in sync error dammit
07:27 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, ?
07:27 PM _unreal_: oh avr

07:30 PM CaptHindsight: _unreal_: was a Chinese 3045 from Automation Technologies completely reworked
07:30 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, good fucking lord is that a science lab?
07:31 PM _unreal_: I use to work for the "Jackson Lab" in Bar Harbor maine

07:37 PM CaptHindsight: so blotches
07:37 PM Jymmm: likely excuse
07:37 PM CaptHindsight: Jymmm: oh yeah :)
07:37 PM Jymmm: =)
07:38 PM CaptHindsight: we just got snow again
07:38 PM CaptHindsight: how about you?
07:38 PM CaptHindsight: Jymmm: did the projector work for movie night??
07:39 PM Jymmm: CaptHindsight: Been WAY too cold outside yet, but the inside wall made a nice 12ft wide screen
07:40 PM Jymmm: CaptHindsight: Hooking up the old ED TVLive to the HDMI port let me stream movies from my NAS since the projector doens't support ISO's directly
07:41 PM Jymmm: s/ED/WD/
07:41 PM _unreal_: snow LOL
07:41 PM _unreal_: its like 80 outside
07:42 PM CaptHindsight: well Brazil is always warm
07:43 PM CaptHindsight: and from rumors so is hell
07:43 PM _unreal_: south florida is NORMALY worm
07:43 PM _unreal_: but we do get a 40F range a few days a year
07:44 PM CaptHindsight: and wet
07:44 PM _unreal_: dead nuts in the middle of caugh caugh winter
07:46 PM CaptHindsight: hell might have fewer trailer parks
07:46 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, half the rug has been ripped out at this point not pictured. Old dog passed away
07:46 PM _unreal_: FINALLY
07:46 PM _unreal_: destroyed the rug

07:47 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1g9lr1CepUdEPi5NcA2wNqxJbsjyfZgnh
07:47 PM CaptHindsight: looks familiar
07:47 PM _unreal_: I'm milling one of the last bearing retainers right now
07:47 PM _unreal_: when I get these done I can really figure locations and thread my threaded rods end that were turned. so I can put nuts to retain the threaded rod
07:48 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, yes I'm using threaded rod to drive my new cnc machine
07:48 PM _unreal_: I did toy with going with ball screws but I just said FUCK IT
07:49 PM _unreal_: I dont want to deal with it.
07:50 PM CaptHindsight: I have some Thompson lead screws with the ends ground down for bearings and then threaded for nuts
07:50 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, I'm going to have are WELDER at the company I work for case harden my couple nuts
07:50 PM _unreal_: so I can use them after they have been tack welded to plates for mounting
07:51 PM _unreal_: it will be nice
07:51 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/6S8AAOSwH9Jd3y4F/s-l1600.jpg
07:51 PM CaptHindsight: 1/2"-10 acme
07:51 PM _unreal_: I toyed with the idea of acme
07:51 PM _unreal_: but again it boild down to price
07:51 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/56cAAOSwnU1d3y4D/s-l1600.jpg
07:52 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, I got 12' of stainless half" threaded rod for $45
07:52 PM CaptHindsight: nice job from the factory
07:52 PM _unreal_: not bad
07:53 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.thomsonlinear.com/en/product/SRA5010
07:53 PM _unreal_: but you have to admit $45 for 12' of 1/2" stainless rod is NOT bad
07:53 PM _unreal_: hehe
07:53 PM _unreal_: threaded 1/2
07:55 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.com/usr/next.day.automation these guys have lots of good stuff
08:17 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: success
08:17 PM _unreal_: sweet
08:17 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:18 PM XXCoder: it was baud rate
08:18 PM _unreal_: what was the final solution?
08:18 PM _unreal_: AHH ok.. ya I figured it was something software wise
08:19 PM XXCoder: i removed board from cnc board might have done that too, plan to test once reassembly
08:21 PM _unreal_: g00xoyo
08:21 PM _unreal_: g00xoyo
08:21 PM _unreal_: arg
08:21 PM XXCoder: lol
08:21 PM _unreal_: wrong keyboard
08:21 PM XXCoder: also o vs 0 ;)
08:21 PM _unreal_: no wonder it didnt even throw an error
08:32 PM _unreal_: ok now I'm starting to mill my last 4 bearing mounts
08:32 PM _unreal_: 4 small one's for one side of the machine, and 4 larger one's for the other side
08:56 PM XXCoder: SUCCESS!!
08:56 PM XXCoder: though odd as I configured it for 0-127 spindle speed (laser strength)
08:57 PM XXCoder: it constantly increases till 1000, in least what I can see
09:02 PM XXCoder: jthornton: its working :)
09:09 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, yay
09:10 PM XXCoder: laser works, now working on steppers
09:10 PM XXCoder: so much fun lol
09:10 PM _unreal_: palm face moment
09:10 PM Tom_L: doing what it's supposed to now ehh?
09:10 PM Tom_L: Jymmm, don't be a hater!
09:10 PM XXCoder: laser yep
09:10 PM _unreal_: just cut an other of the WRONG bearing mounts
09:10 PM _unreal_: I forgot to LOAD the new gcode
09:10 PM Tom_L: that helps
09:11 PM Tom_L: at least you got spares now
09:11 PM _unreal_: i was wondering why it didnt cut deep enough
09:15 PM XXCoder: im dumb
09:15 PM XXCoder: i disabled machine after testing laser and didnt enable it. no wonder machine didnt move
09:16 PM XXCoder: and im using my pc browser this time! figured how.
09:17 PM Jymmm: Tom_L: LOL, nah, I know you like AVR's
09:20 PM Tom_L: not so much since microchip took them over
09:21 PM CaptHindsight: ok will now shovel for the 3rd time today
09:32 PM Jymmm: Does anything use fraction greater than 32'nds?
09:32 PM Jymmm: I cna only think of wrenches
09:39 PM XXCoder: oh no wonder laser wasnt turning on. its not set. (laserweb not machine, machine works fine now)
10:15 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, stop copying me, I just did the I'm dumb act
10:15 PM CaptHindsight: Jymmm: is a 16th greater or lesser than a 32nd?
10:15 PM XXCoder: lol
10:15 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, a 16th is greater
10:16 PM _unreal_: a 32nd is too old
10:16 PM _unreal_: ;)
10:16 PM CaptHindsight: March 32nd
10:17 PM CaptHindsight: i had a great calendar as a kid that did things like that
10:17 PM _unreal_: ve7it, you live yet?
10:20 PM fjungclaus1 is now known as fjungclaus
10:34 PM ve7it: _unreal_, back to reality
10:36 PM Elmo40: CaptHindsight, their entire machining process!
10:37 PM Elmo40: in 6 axis...
10:37 PM Elmo40: with tool change knowledge. offset usage. shit, what could they not offer additive manu?
10:39 PM Tom_L: Jymmm, what about a fifth of whiskey?
10:43 PM XXCoder: drat some setting issue lol
10:44 PM Tom_L: settings for what?
10:44 PM XXCoder: fixed steps per mm, but laser arent turning on. (manual gcode it does)
10:44 PM Tom_L: what modes are active in manual mode?
10:44 PM Tom_L: do they stay active in auto?
10:45 PM XXCoder: i have set laser on to m3 and off to m5
10:45 PM XXCoder: laser test button it briefly turns on and off
10:45 PM XXCoder: (its ignoring it as its running gcode now)
10:46 PM Tom_L: do you have an S word set?
10:46 PM Tom_L: without that it may not stay on
10:47 PM XXCoder: laser intensity= s
10:47 PM XXCoder: is that what you mean?
10:47 PM Tom_L: you're using spindle Fwd and spindle stop for your laser. you need to have a spindle speed set
10:47 PM Tom_L: i think
10:48 PM XXCoder: cut rate = 500mm/m
10:48 PM Tom_L: nothing to do with spindle speed. that's feedrate
10:48 PM XXCoder: doh yeah
10:49 PM XXCoder: trying to see in gcode gen area see if have set s
10:49 PM XXCoder: no way to see gcode cant find it
10:50 PM Tom_L: wait.. this is grbl right?
10:50 PM Tom_L: should still be the same i think
10:50 PM XXCoder: found it
10:51 PM XXCoder: heres small sample
10:51 PM XXCoder: Y0.49 S0.0000
10:51 PM XXCoder: X0.21 S0.9961
10:51 PM XXCoder: X0.81 S1.0000
10:51 PM XXCoder: s is way too small
10:52 PM XXCoder: range should be [0-1000]
10:52 PM Tom_L: you're using S for laser intensity?
10:52 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:52 PM Tom_L: your calcs are off a bit then :)
10:52 PM XXCoder: pwm min 0 max 1000 hmm
10:53 PM Tom_L: i'm sorta guessing the 1.0000 maybe should be 1000?
10:53 PM XXCoder: i think so yeah
10:53 PM Tom_L: fix the post
10:54 PM Tom_L: so your first Y move there would move with the laser off
10:56 PM XXCoder: i think I see other reason why now
10:56 PM XXCoder: no m3
10:56 PM Tom_L: note: keep a fire extinguisher nearby until it's working :)
10:56 PM XXCoder: ; Beam range : 0 to 1
10:56 PM XXCoder: huh looking
10:59 PM XXCoder: reading https://github.com/LaserWeb/LaserWeb4/wiki/3.3-Settings-Gcode
11:01 PM XXCoder: re-generated after fixing it should be fine now
11:01 PM XXCoder: X10.61 S504.5752
11:01 PM XXCoder: X11.01 S500.6536
11:01 PM XXCoder: X11.81 S504.5752
11:01 PM Tom_L: better?
11:01 PM Tom_L: you could probably cut back on the decimal places on S
11:03 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I ordered that one https://www.ebay.com/itm/Electro-Craft-Reliance-Electric-E242-242-024-0141-Servo-Motor-Planetary-Gearhead/383317344051?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
11:03 PM _unreal_: I couldnt beat the price
11:03 PM _unreal_: $20 +12 shipping
11:03 PM Tom_L: better deal than your $15 welder
11:03 PM _unreal_: hay I got a fake ring out of that I'll have you know
11:09 PM CaptHindsight: Elmo40: well most DIYers don't even want to use LCNC since it requires a PC, I don't think they would want to pay mastercam for anything no matter how much better it is
11:10 PM CaptHindsight: and the closed 3D printer co's want to keep their binary only apps to themselves
11:11 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: 10% is engraving cardboard well lol
11:11 PM CaptHindsight: there are even some freeware slicer and SLS/DLP/LCD printer apps that won't even open source in the hopes they can somehow sell it and control the market in the future
11:11 PM XXCoder: but its not drawing well.
11:12 PM _unreal_: hum
11:12 PM _unreal_: slightly annoyed so I got half of my item I ordered. and there was a note saying shipment 1 of 2
11:12 PM CaptHindsight: so the $15 welder was a ring?
11:12 PM _unreal_: yet the ebay sail says all items shipped and delivered
11:12 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight,
11:12 PM _unreal_: ya
11:13 PM CaptHindsight: and ebay didn't cancell these sales and return payments?
11:13 PM _unreal_: got a knock off "french" "gold studded" ring
11:13 PM _unreal_: nope
11:13 PM _unreal_: I got a """"""" cartier """"""""
11:14 PM CaptHindsight: real fake Cartier
11:14 PM _unreal_: at least I got SOMETHING
11:14 PM Tom_L: it's what you really wanted anyway... right?
11:14 PM _unreal_: I was more interested to see if I would get anything or if it was a total money grab
11:16 PM CaptHindsight: Item not as described
11:16 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjdpz05u2DY
11:16 PM Tom_L: _unreal_,
11:16 PM CaptHindsight: all shopped, fake news :)
11:17 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: ya still not very good lol looks like gaps between y and i feel machine clicking
11:18 PM Tom_L: better though right?
11:18 PM XXCoder: it works in least but im not sure if machine is working properly. clicky
11:18 PM Tom_L: check for backlash
11:19 PM Tom_L: or binding
11:19 PM _unreal_: hum
11:25 PM XXCoder: uploading video
11:25 PM _unreal_: of?
11:26 PM XXCoder: it running
11:27 PM XXCoder: X10.61 S504.5752
11:27 PM XXCoder: X11.01 S500.6536
11:27 PM XXCoder: X11.81 S504.5752
11:27 PM XXCoder: oops
11:27 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH0UpR1Gu1s
11:28 PM XXCoder: try to ignore my vadar-like breathing if im still doing that
11:30 PM XXCoder: do you hear it?
11:31 PM Elmo40: CaptHindsight, most DIYers... they do stuff on shoestring budget. companies like BASF and Mastercam and Solidworks don't give a shit about them. Doesn't mean they are not interested in additive and taylor to industrial production environments... i'm sure someone at mastercam has thought about additive. it has been around for a long time, why wouldn't they get involved?
11:38 PM Elmo40: guess someone made a plug-in for Mastercam
11:38 PM Elmo40: http://camufacturing.com/addman
11:38 PM Elmo40: "Our AddMan application is a Mastercam add-on for integrating additive manufacturing travel paths into a traditional machining-based CAM system."
11:39 PM Elmo40: sounds interesting
11:40 PM XXCoder: set it to 2000 cut speed, moves better now. dunno why lol
11:40 PM XXCoder: im using much brighter picture too so laser is low most times
11:45 PM XXCoder: heh it was still too slow, 1000. now trying 10,000
11:45 PM XXCoder: erm 20,000
11:51 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: did you see video? or rather hear it as i recorded it for sounds not visual
11:52 PM CaptHindsight: Elmo40: closed hardware 3d printers keep control over the software and the consumables
11:52 PM CaptHindsight: it's not like CNC yet
11:52 PM XXCoder: 3d printing is still too much of a art
11:55 PM CaptHindsight: FDM?
11:56 PM CaptHindsight: well on rickety wobbly machines sure
