03:15 AM Deejay: moin
04:51 AM Tom_L: morning
04:55 AM jthornton: morning
04:55 AM XXCoder: yo
05:37 AM jymmmm: Morning
05:37 AM XXCoder: hey
05:37 AM XXCoder: jthornton: no luck with laser off :(
05:38 AM jthornton: it just fires off when you power it up then goes off?
05:38 AM XXCoder: nah it stays on forever
05:38 AM XXCoder: m3 m4 m5 does nothing
05:38 AM XXCoder: even max s255 on m3 m4 in case logic was inverted
05:39 AM jthornton: let it burn a hole all the way to china lol... yea something is broken
05:39 AM XXCoder: yeah its china productm, they might not be following standard ardino nano cnc wiring
05:39 AM XXCoder: grbl
05:41 AM jthornton: best to file a dispute before the time runs out if you still can
05:42 AM XXCoder: it really depends on why its doing that
05:46 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: IS it PWM?
05:47 AM XXCoder: supposely
05:47 AM XXCoder: pin 11 on nano is pwn and "spindle pwn"
05:47 AM XXCoder: laser is considered an spindle in this context
05:48 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: maybe it needs to be pulled hi/lo ?
05:48 AM jymmmm: during power on
05:48 AM XXCoder: possibly but its system already built
05:48 AM XXCoder: circuit board and all that
05:48 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: explain?
05:48 AM jymmmm: you mena it's controller?
05:48 AM XXCoder: as in it should already be set to run properly
05:49 AM XXCoder: yeah its a circuit board with ardino nano on it and 2 stepper controllers
05:49 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: link?
05:49 AM XXCoder: sure a sec
05:50 AM XXCoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Desktop-Laser-Engraving-Machine-DIY-Marking-Printer-Engraver-Cutting-2000mW/293282771022
05:50 AM XXCoder: third to last picture have nice zoomed picture of it
05:51 AM XXCoder: notice theres two switches. on mine one does nothing making its grbl misconfiguration
05:52 AM jymmmm: Did they give you the soruce code?
05:52 AM XXCoder: no I used standard grbl
05:52 AM XXCoder: thats why i suspect they didnt use standard grbl but modifed.
05:52 AM jymmmm: I mean the arduino source code?
05:52 AM XXCoder: old version it come with was 0.9c grbl
05:53 AM jymmmm: so you reflashed it?
05:53 AM XXCoder: and jnope didnt get it. yeah
05:53 AM jymmmm: why?
05:53 AM XXCoder: laserweb dont with with old version
05:53 AM jymmmm: But, did it work before oyu reflashed it?
05:54 AM XXCoder: thats the thing, I didnt know I could just directly command it using serial connection
05:54 AM XXCoder: so I didnt test it
05:54 AM jymmmm: The seller is in California, maybe you can ask them to email it to tou
05:54 AM jymmmm: you*
05:55 AM XXCoder: whoa
05:55 AM XXCoder: what the heck
05:55 AM XXCoder: a second
05:55 AM XXCoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Axis-Stepper-Motor-Control-Board-Driver-For-DIY-Laser-Engraver-Benbox-GRBL/323460400179
05:55 AM XXCoder: this is same board
05:55 AM XXCoder: but labels is motor on socket im using
05:55 AM XXCoder: mine do not have another socket, labeled laser
05:56 AM XXCoder: im starting to wonder if they sent me wrong controller and cable
05:57 AM jymmmm: EleksCAM software download link is here : http://wiki.eleksmaker.com/doku.php?id=elekscam
05:57 AM jymmmm: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32973845319.html
05:57 AM XXCoder: thats windows
05:58 AM jymmmm: So what?
05:58 AM XXCoder: yep im starting to suspect they sent me wrong board and wire
05:58 AM XXCoder: so theres no windows here. :)
05:58 AM jymmmm: It's the firmware you are after
06:01 AM XXCoder: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EIoAAOSwh~xdqCVg/s-l1600.jpg
06:01 AM XXCoder: that must be older version
06:01 AM XXCoder: 3 pin wires
06:03 AM jymmmm: and the one you got is 2 wires?
06:03 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:03 AM jymmmm: that one I linked to has owm on a second plug it looks like
06:03 AM jymmmm: PWM*
06:03 AM XXCoder: yeah 2 wire one is labeled "motor" on other one
06:04 AM XXCoder: still pwm but different pinouts
06:04 AM jymmmm: got a scope?
06:04 AM XXCoder: nope sadly
06:04 AM jymmmm: led and a resistor?
06:04 AM XXCoder: im sure I have em somewhere but impossible to find
06:04 AM jymmmm: lol
06:04 AM XXCoder: so now that I have some info
06:05 AM XXCoder: Im now looking at "motor" pwm
06:05 AM XXCoder: and seeing if I can change laser (d11) to whatever the heck that is
06:06 AM jymmmm: how many wires does the laser itself have?
06:06 AM XXCoder: socket is 3 pins but wire is 2
06:06 AM XXCoder: i suspect third is enable
06:07 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: But, the laser itself only has 2 wires?
06:08 AM XXCoder: "laser itself" not sure what you mean
06:08 AM jymmmm: Can you connect the laser directly to a pwoer supply and fire it ?
06:08 AM XXCoder: socket on board is 2 pin, wires is 2 "pins", socket on laser is 3 pin
06:08 AM jymmmm: fuck the board
06:09 AM jymmmm: JUST the laser
06:09 AM XXCoder: not sure how I would do that
06:09 AM jymmmm: wire?
06:09 AM XXCoder: laser certainly works, cardboard have spots on it from testing
06:09 AM XXCoder: just cant turn off
06:09 AM jymmmm: Like the headlamp of a car, can you connect it directly to the battery?
06:10 AM XXCoder: npot sure what laser needs on power
06:10 AM XXCoder: amps volts
06:11 AM XXCoder: it dont have seperate power supply though so I guess board handles it
06:11 AM XXCoder: ie that 2 wires is all connections it uses
06:11 AM jymmmm: "jumper ADJ can adjust manually the laser voltage to control the laser power"
06:11 AM XXCoder: so I guess yes it can be directly connected
06:12 AM jymmmm: IT says 12V@2A, so start with 5V, and go from there
06:12 AM XXCoder: 5v and 12v jumper
06:12 AM XXCoder: whats jumper to right ofn it for?
06:14 AM jymmmm: https://www.channypicture.com/pic/imgsgroup1/M00/73/AB/88829A9B9B969A8C8B65902756CDCF03C7928927BDC694669394168FE6CCA8BE2677877446BE14ACBECCA597B5BAF5B7156323C7F5C9.jpg
06:14 AM jymmmm: It says 12V on laser -shrug-
06:14 AM jymmmm: if you can believe that drawing
06:14 AM XXCoder: if its same as mine
06:15 AM XXCoder: i dont havw pwm
06:15 AM XXCoder: however socket pins exist
06:15 AM XXCoder: dunno if they removed pwm controller tho
06:15 AM XXCoder: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/QD8AAOSwx5VdqCVo/s-l1600.jpg
06:15 AM jymmmm: and it says 3 wire for laser, idk
06:15 AM XXCoder: LASER labeled 3 pin empty spot
06:16 AM jymmmm: Yep, it looks that way :(
06:18 AM XXCoder: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/yhAAAOSwxxdZZc8g/s-l1600.jpg
06:23 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: So, again, from the black box that has the laser, it has a cable, on the end of the cable is a plug, how many pins does yours have?
06:23 AM XXCoder: uhh depends on which end lol
06:23 AM XXCoder: one end is 2, other is 3
06:24 AM XXCoder: one on laser head is 3
06:25 AM jymmmm: but only two wires?
06:25 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:25 AM jymmmm: Do you have a jumper cable you can borrow or use temprarily?
06:26 AM jymmmm: 3 wire
06:26 AM XXCoder: sadly no
06:26 AM jymmmm: what about individual jumpers?
06:26 AM jymmmm: like for breadboarding?
06:26 AM XXCoder: i dont really own much of electrics stuff
06:27 AM jymmmm: ah ok
06:29 AM jymmmm: dupont cables, like this... MM, MF, FF, https://www.amazon.com/EDGELEC-Breadboard-Optional-Assorted-Multicolored/dp/B07GD2BWPY/
06:29 AM jymmmm: If those are the right size for your sockets that is
06:30 AM XXCoder: yeah ill just talk with them see if I can get their version of grbl
06:30 AM XXCoder: or partial refund so I can buy proper board
06:33 AM jymmmm: XXCoder: Teh auction clarly shows 3 wire and the missing socket you received. Just get them to replace the baord and cable
06:34 AM jymmmm: It's VERY unsafe to have a laser firing upon power up
06:34 AM XXCoder: super unsafe
06:34 AM XXCoder: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/2ykAAOSw-DJdSUi3/s-l1600.jpg
06:34 AM XXCoder: 21 usd
06:35 AM XXCoder: for extra lols it doesnt come with wire.
06:36 AM jymmmm: Just tell them unsafe and not as descirbed in listing (as per the pic)
06:36 AM XXCoder: problem is it is as pictured
06:36 AM jymmmm: The jack is missing
06:36 AM jymmmm: the drawing shows it there
06:38 AM jymmmm: Well, still unsafe
06:38 AM jymmmm: aka "Not high quality"
06:38 AM XXCoder: yeah if they cant do anything I would want partial refind in least
06:38 AM XXCoder: $30 or so
06:38 AM jymmmm: and where is the "free upgrades for life" as listed in the auction
06:39 AM XXCoder: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fbUAAOSwUlxaG4D-/s-l1600.jpg
06:40 AM XXCoder: 23 bucks https://www.ebay.com/itm/ManaSE-2-Axis-Stepper-Motor-Driver-Controller-Drive-Board-For-DIY-Laser-Engraver/162810371263
06:40 AM XXCoder: but no laser cable dammit
06:41 AM XXCoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EleksMaker-XH2-54mm-3-Pin-Laser-Module-Control-Board-Controller-Wire-Cable-Conne/222917783698 laser
06:44 AM jymmmm: Just say it's firing upon power up and unsafe
06:45 AM XXCoder: im typing it now yeah
06:46 AM XXCoder: After research it shows that circuit board that comes with laser engraver is not suitable for laser engraving, it is dangerous since it turns on laser when it is on and can blind people. I have looked around and found board and does have 3 wire laser controller. It did not come with 3 pin wire so I looked for proper wiring for laser. Here it is below: board and wire.
06:46 AM XXCoder: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ManaSE-2-Axis-Stepper-Motor-Driver-Controller-Drive-Board-For-DIY-Laser-Engraver/162810371263https://www.ebay.com/itm/EleksMaker-XH2-54-3P-3-Pin-XH-2-54mm-Female-Connector-Laser-Module-Control-Board/352828640432
06:46 AM XXCoder: I want either partial refund, enough to buy those to make my machine much safer, or you ship me those proper board and wire. I canoot use mine since I do not want to blinded.
06:47 AM XXCoder: Thank you
06:47 AM XXCoder: changed "on" to "powered on" earlier
06:48 AM XXCoder: fixed typo
06:50 AM XXCoder: jymmmm: what ya think
07:52 AM XXCoder: pretty cool. "drunken rolling pjn" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9cFScqalEg
07:53 AM XXCoder: great pattern
12:30 PM jymmmm: OH YAY BABY.... Gonna make some moonshine.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Moonshine-Still-5-Gallon-20L-Water-Alcohol-Distiller-Home-Brew-Wine-Making-Kit/293289484422
12:31 PM Tom_L: my barber sells moonshine
12:32 PM jymmmm: Tom_L have you tasted it?
12:32 PM Tom_L: no
12:32 PM Tom_L: last time i was in was the first time i noticed it there
12:34 PM Tom_L: was dark like honey
12:34 PM Tom_L: dunno what flavor it was
12:34 PM ziper: i wonder how much throughput you can get with that condensor
12:35 PM Tom_L: looks kinda small
12:38 PM jymmmm: Small enough so the ATF doens't catch you? lol
12:39 PM syyl: *knockknockknock*
12:39 PM Tom_L: 1-2 gal yield
12:39 PM syyl: ATF!
12:39 PM syyl: and next second your door gets blown open.
12:39 PM jymmmm: ATF doens't knock btw
12:39 PM Tom_L: A 1 gallon run will yield 3-6 cups of alcohol. A 5 gallon run will yield 1-2 gallons of alcohol. A 8 gallon run will yield 1.5-3 gallons of alcohol.
12:39 PM syyl: pretty sure it works like that :D
12:39 PM Tom_L: better than a meth lab
12:40 PM Tom_L: those are everywhere anymore
12:40 PM jymmmm: Cause Tom_L knows about meth labs :)
12:40 PM Tom_L: a block away one blew up a few yrs back
12:40 PM jymmmm: Breaking Bad was based on Tom_L's life :)
12:40 PM Tom_L: 2 30gal propane tanks went off like the 4th
12:48 PM _unreal_: getting the legs mounted on the bottom of my new cnc machine
12:48 PM _unreal_: I dont need them AT ALL.. but I decided I want to mount the motor under the table rather then sticking out.
12:48 PM _unreal_: that and servos are long so an 8" + servo ontop of evertyhing else at the end. heh
12:49 PM _unreal_: when I can just put it backwards and under the table
01:42 PM kritterr: How flat does wasteboard need to be?
01:43 PM jymmmm: kritterr: laser?
01:43 PM kritterr: PCB + autoleveling anyway
01:43 PM sensille: kritterr: you mill it flat
01:43 PM jymmmm: kritterr: MDF flat at least
01:43 PM kritterr: I have lots of thick, solid cardboard. I also have good wood but if I start sawing plywood it'll wake my girlfriend.
01:44 PM kritterr: I dunno how much leeway autolevel buys me. Seems like cardboard could change thickness during milling.
01:44 PM jymmmm: kritterr: Use MDF would be my suggestion, it's why I have on my cnc router
01:44 PM kritterr: I've also got MDF, but again, kinda loud to go cutting it
01:45 PM jymmmm: Then wake her ass up? lol
01:45 PM kritterr: Eh, better not to be rude.
01:45 PM kritterr: Anyone ever tried cardboard?
01:46 PM jymmmm: Well, you can wake her up in "other" ways first :)
01:46 PM kritterr: unlike me, she has a real job
01:46 PM kritterr: so i try to respect her sleep
01:48 PM kritterr: Yeah, no way this is going to work.
01:48 PM kritterr: It'll bow the PCB upward at least.
01:49 PM kritterr: Best to just print a PCB vise.
01:49 PM jymmmm: double stick tape
01:51 PM kritterr: Alternatively, I have a few old PCBs I could just stack the new one on top of.
01:51 PM kritterr: That's wasteboard, basically.
01:52 PM kritterr: Turns out workholding is complicated, shocking.
01:55 PM kritterr: Also, I have a warped lead screw. I also have a spare, so it's not a big deal. I'm curious as to whether or not they can be fixed.
02:02 PM kritterr: It seems like they can but I'm not sure it's a good use of my time to say 12 dollars.
03:52 PM Deejay: gn8
03:58 PM _unreal_: there both y rails have been aligned
03:58 PM _unreal_: WHAT a pain in the ass
03:58 PM _unreal_: 50 some odd screws
03:58 PM _unreal_: at this point though. ON and tight
03:58 PM _unreal_: ve7it, at least I'm starting to get somewhere
04:34 PM _unreal_: no one live
04:34 PM _unreal_: sigh
04:35 PM Tom_L: just watching
04:35 PM Tom_L: silently
04:37 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, have you much/any experience with servos?
04:37 PM _unreal_: dc
04:37 PM _unreal_: I'm torn between the tarocco, and odrive and ve7it's dspicservo
04:38 PM _unreal_: the tarocco has almost nothing for reviews
04:39 PM _unreal_: odrive does not seem to have much for reviews ether
04:41 PM _unreal_: I think your taking the silently thing way to far ;)
04:48 PM Tom_L: no
04:49 PM Tom_L: on the servos
05:02 PM elmo40: odrive have plenty of videos
05:04 PM _unreal_: I'm not sure if odrive can do brushed motor
05:17 PM _unreal_: yawn
05:17 PM _unreal_: well i guess I'm going to take my daughter to the hardware store so I can get some parts I need "with luck" they will have what I need
05:17 PM _unreal_: but I'm not going to hold my breath
05:20 PM Tom_L: take her to the toy store on the way too
05:47 PM gregcnc: hardware store IS the toystore?
09:54 PM net|: https://i.imgur.com/Akz2pYg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/D5ABDyx.jpg
09:54 PM Tom_L: what for?
09:55 PM Tom_L: back scratcher?
10:07 PM net|: https://i.imgur.com/5mEJyq6.jpg
10:13 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest90788
10:13 PM jymmmm: USB scratcher?
10:35 PM net|: usb passthrough, was going to use a servo to make a mechanical disconnect
10:35 PM net|: turns out i designed the boards wrong
10:35 PM net|: usb pins got mixed up somehow
10:38 PM net|: maybe , still looking into it. i found unsoldered pin already
10:45 PM _unreal_: I thought you were using it as a usb power switch
10:45 PM _unreal_: tomorrow I'm going to take pictures
10:45 PM _unreal_: OH tomorrow I'm going to race back to lowes
10:46 PM Tom_L: which?
10:46 PM _unreal_: my lows has a projector deal a seasonal LCD projector that also has HDMI inputs and 1080 output. its a freaking 1080p lcd projecter sold as a seasonal images projector and $75% off so was only $25
10:47 PM _unreal_: going to get an other one maybe a few and sell them :)
10:50 PM _unreal_: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gemmy-CineMotion-Multi-function-Multicolor-LED-Multi-Design-Any-Occasion-Indoor/1001040312

10:51 PM _unreal_: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Show-Lights-Multi-function-Multicolor-Laser-Multi-design-Christmas-Indoor/1001168640
10:51 PM _unreal_: THATS IT
10:52 PM _unreal_: IT HAS hdmi in and everying and $25
11:09 PM net|: nm the usb a socket is upside down
11:09 PM net|: board should still work
11:31 PM BitEvil: Is the only way it's christmas the USB stick?
11:32 PM BitEvil: ^or whatever media storage it has
11:32 PM _unreal_: omg
11:33 PM _unreal_: BitEvil, it has HDMI input
11:33 PM _unreal_: hdmi, SD and usb
11:33 PM _unreal_: and holiday videos pre loaded on internal memory
11:33 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
11:35 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, ?
11:35 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I have not taken any photos yet but I got a bunch of work done on the new cnc machine
11:35 PM _unreal_: its starting to look like something now
11:36 PM ve7it: cool
11:37 PM ve7it: I have been staring at the motor driver boards thinking it must be a multilayer board... there are not enough heavy traces connecting to the motor connector that I can se
11:38 PM ve7it: I did figure out the ground and 28v inputs from the cpu board
11:41 PM Wolf__: _unreal_: thx for that link lol I know what i’m doing tomorrow
11:46 PM _unreal_: ve7it, its 24v
11:46 PM _unreal_: not 28v
11:47 PM ve7it: board has 28 shown on tp2 which is the input to the regulators.... 28V is the charged voltage in a 24V system
11:48 PM _unreal_: heh... the boats run 24v
11:48 PM ve7it: like 14V is the nominal charge voltage for a 12V system
11:49 PM _unreal_: I dont know about charge voltage but the DC input that the unit ran on was 24v
11:49 PM ve7it: yup.. understood
11:49 PM _unreal_: 24vdc is stanard on large yachts
11:50 PM _unreal_: so i got my rails aligned for Y today
11:50 PM _unreal_: what a bitch moving and tighting the jig 50 times
11:51 PM _unreal_: but at this point all the mount screws holding the threaded rod are tight as hell and aligned
11:51 PM _unreal_: I got a bunch of parts tonight
11:51 PM _unreal_: tomorrow I'm going to work on getting the Y frame assembled
11:52 PM ve7it: 24 volt battery bus will read between about 25.2V for charged resting batteries to 28.8 for full on alternator charging
11:52 PM _unreal_: I picked up the few supplies I needed tonight
11:52 PM _unreal_: heh ve7it not on a yachts. they have isolators
11:54 PM _unreal_: I'm not saying your worng but I am saying I know for a fact that they uses special inverters and power isolation controllers etc... to ensure a constant voltage. dont want things doing odd things
11:54 PM _unreal_: especially when you have hydrolics and 1,000 hp motors and other stuff going on. on a floating home
11:54 PM _unreal_: :)
11:55 PM Wolf__: yeah, dont want to fry them triple redundant auto pilot nav system either
11:55 PM _unreal_: triple redundant. ya right...
11:55 PM _unreal_: most boats have a single backup and manual
11:55 PM Wolf__: 3 headed was what I was thinking
11:55 PM _unreal_: and even then a lot of them dont even have manual
11:55 PM Wolf__: not redundant…
11:56 PM _unreal_: I am refering to power boats as well
11:57 PM Wolf__: last/only yacht I was on, I’m pretty sure the guy had dual auto pilots and one system had a control head on each bridge
11:58 PM _unreal_: thats not dual. that is a seatalk network. with Helm master switching
11:58 PM _unreal_: meaning only one helm can be in control at any time
11:59 PM * Wolf__ isnt a boat guy
11:59 PM _unreal_: but I am :)
11:59 PM _unreal_: being in south florida that is my business
11:59 PM _unreal_: hence why I'm building the new cn machine
11:59 PM Wolf__: I know it had a crap load of tech, and this was like 15yrs ago or so
