01:30 AM Loetmichel: *yaaawn*. Mornin'. Meh, have to use the railways to get to my wife and mother in law/brothers in law for christmas eve... 121 eur for a 4 hour 600km journey. lets hope the german railways can make that worth the price. :-(
02:33 AM Deejay: moin

07:55 AM _unreal_: yawn
09:05 AM jymmmm: Merry Christmas Eve
09:06 AM jdh: et tu
09:24 AM elmo40: moo?
09:37 AM jymmmm: Woof
09:52 AM skunkworks: watching the grinch...
09:53 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: Don't forget to watch "Bad Santa", it's great!
09:53 AM jymmmm: Billy Bob Thorton
09:57 AM syyl_: my reccomendation: santa's slays
09:57 AM jymmmm: sounds like a holiday horror flick
09:57 AM syyl_: kinda
09:57 AM syyl_: less horror, more splatter
09:58 AM jymmmm: lmao
09:59 AM syyl_: think the prowler with more christmas
10:42 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, pot kettle?
10:42 AM _unreal_: ;)
10:43 AM _unreal_: wrapping my daughters stuff fast as I can
10:45 AM jymmmm: _unreal_: You got 30 seconds, and.... GO!!!!
10:45 AM jymmmm: 28
10:45 AM jymmmm: 27
10:45 AM jymmmm: 26....
11:19 AM elmo40: TIME
11:20 AM jymmmm: elmo40: Well, he's not typing, so hopefully he's still wrapping gifts =)
11:21 AM jymmmm: elmo40: It's why I have 14" scissors =)
11:21 AM jymmmm: 114??? Let me check...
11:22 AM jymmmm: Yep, 14" https://www.harborfreight.com/14-in-scissors-62506.html
11:22 AM jymmmm: Suprisingly sharp for what they are, great for wrapping gifts :)
11:32 AM skunkworks: bah humbug ;)
11:32 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: elaborate Eb
11:32 AM skunkworks: heh - no - things are good
11:33 AM skunkworks: trying to get the kids to clean up... Not going well
11:33 AM skunkworks: hearding cats..
11:33 AM jymmmm: skunkworks: Tell them they don't get any presents unless it's clean, that should work.
11:34 AM skunkworks: it only helps for a few seconds
11:34 AM jymmmm: Grab the trash can and start putting the presents in them, but you it'll be clean in 30 seconds :)
11:35 AM jymmmm: bet*
11:43 AM _unreal_: almost done wrapping
11:43 AM elmo40: skunkworks, or like pushing a chain? i hear cats will follow food...
11:44 AM skunkworks: or rope
11:45 AM _unreal_: kind of weird, so I'm wrapping a few gifts "for my self" that are to me from my "dad" seeing as how he's in the hospital and all but in LALA land with the pain drugs... this christmas its going to be ME and my daughter only in the house
11:46 AM _unreal_: just so that there is the illusion for my daughter that her pup pup gave a bunch of gifts as well.
11:46 AM _unreal_: sigh
11:46 AM jymmmm: _unreal_: She's 9yo?
11:47 AM _unreal_: quiet and lonely christmas
11:47 AM _unreal_: 10
11:47 AM _unreal_: 11 in jan
11:47 AM jymmmm: _unreal_: Never underestimate a kid. She has a clue of what's going on. Just enjoy the time you get to share with her without pretense :)
11:48 AM _unreal_: last year it was her grand father my self and and my daughter. before that was her grandmother grandfather. my self her and some of my step mothers friends etc.. at christmas and the same years past.
11:48 AM gloops: £2 stl. previews well for cutting https://ibb.co/bbXbhGj
11:49 AM jymmmm: Just have fun together, snowball fight, hit the arcade, whaterever
11:49 AM _unreal_: one silver lining, my father dragged me to coscos few weeks ago becuase he purchased a full sized pro air hocky table
11:49 AM _unreal_: snowball?
11:49 AM _unreal_: current temp is 73F
11:49 AM jymmmm: Fine, water ballons fight
11:50 AM _unreal_: !
11:50 AM jymmmm: no cheating.... much
11:50 AM _unreal_: fine I'
11:50 AM _unreal_: i'll put away the hose
11:51 AM * _unreal_ does love living in sum sum sum sum sum summer time... sum sum sum sum sum summer time....
11:51 AM jymmmm: or give it to her
11:51 AM _unreal_: jymmmm, ever looked at earthcam?
11:51 AM jymmmm: she cna cheat, you can't
11:51 AM jymmmm: never heard of it
11:51 AM _unreal_: really
11:51 AM _unreal_: one sec let me get you a certian link
11:51 AM jymmmm: k
11:52 AM _unreal_: this is live RIGHT now https://www.earthcam.com/usa/florida/fortlauderdale/everglades/?cam=everglades
11:52 AM _unreal_: turn the audio on
11:52 AM _unreal_: its really windy out btw

11:55 AM _unreal_: jymmmm, https://www.earthcam.com/usa/florida/keywest/?cam=irishkevins
11:55 AM _unreal_: again if you want audio got to turn it on.
11:57 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, how did you capture an elfe?
11:57 AM _unreal_: elf
11:58 AM skunkworks: pretty easy - just leave out legos...
11:58 AM _unreal_: !
11:58 AM _unreal_: jymmmm, ?
11:58 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, I think just created a monster hehehe jymmmm has never heard of earthcam before
11:58 AM _unreal_: oh boy
11:59 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, back when I use to live in Maine. Earthcam is part of how I got by winter. I'd put some tropical location on. and play it on the TV
11:59 AM _unreal_: HELPED
12:00 PM _unreal_: now that I live here. earthcam is my easy way of checking the waves for surfing :)
12:00 PM _unreal_: jymmmm, ?
12:01 PM skunkworks: heh - I have enough stuff to do in the winter to keep my busy
12:02 PM _unreal_: skunkworks, try being a full time single dad in winter.
12:03 PM skunkworks: It helps to have help
12:03 PM skunkworks: for suer
12:03 PM skunkworks: sure
12:03 PM _unreal_: shovel the show before the rain really packs it down or make din for the hungry munchkin
12:03 PM _unreal_: I have NO regrets leaving winter
12:04 PM _unreal_: its a very different life style
12:04 PM _unreal_: for example kids sports games are year round
12:04 PM _unreal_: kids socker, base ball etc......
12:04 PM _unreal_: there are endless games being played at the field down the road from my house. I can hear them constantly
12:05 PM _unreal_: screaming parents :)
12:13 PM _unreal_: as much fun as this is back to wrapping for this old boy
12:37 PM jymmmm: _unreal_: Take her on a boat ride, horseback ride, take lots of photos, just have fun together
03:09 PM Loetmichel: maan... german trains at xmas. 11:20 start in Offenbach, first city train already was 15 min late, making the comfortable 20 min switch to the intercity train into a 3 min sprint across the station... sme on the other end: the ICE was 20 mn late, causing me to sprint across hamburgs station in 4 min to reach the regiotran to pinneberg where my brother in law is. no time to buy food or
03:09 PM Loetmichel: drinks... arriving at my BiLs house in santa costume DEAD hungry and out of breath. finally in the hotel with the wie now. 22:00 here :-( and i had to expedite the person occupying my reserved seat in the Intercity. all tat for 126eur :-(
03:09 PM FinboySlick: skunkworks: It's you who has the large and somewhat ancient horizontal cnc with pallets and a chain toolchanger, right?
03:09 PM FinboySlick: (I think it was dark blue in the videos I watched)
03:43 PM nvz: will these parport things that say mach3 work with linuxcnc?
03:44 PM nvz: I was thinking of going with a rpi cnc hat cause I am already planning on using external DM556 drivers, but to cut down cost I'd like to find a simpler thing to start with and just hook it up to a machine I already have
03:44 PM Loetmichel: nvz: yes they will
03:44 PM nvz: I'm not real sure about the whole software interface..
03:45 PM Loetmichel: if you have a pc with a parport that has a low enough latency
03:45 PM nvz: I dont have one right now.. I only have a HP t520 thin client and a dell 780 USFF on hand.. neither have a parport
03:45 PM nvz: which I figured any serial (usb or rs232 style) would likely be more latency
03:46 PM Loetmichel: the dell could work if you install a PCI LPT card
03:46 PM nvz: it only has half slot being USFF
03:46 PM Loetmichel: the right one that support the old isa adress model
03:46 PM Loetmichel: plt ports are half size usually
03:47 PM nvz: yeah usually just a matter of removing/chopping down/replacing the backplate
03:48 PM Loetmichel: or buy one that already comes with two back plates
03:48 PM nvz: thats the biggest problem I have finalizing my design here is deciding what to use for the brains
03:48 PM Loetmichel: :)
03:50 PM nvz: that and I am still not sure about PSU.. I was gonna just get two 10A adjustable voltage ones.. but I can get a 24v 25A for the price of one of those
03:51 PM nvz: looking to make a machine that has a 4ftx4t workable area so I can do a whole 4x8 sheet if need be one end at a time
03:52 PM Loetmichel: nvz: i would try to geth higher voltage then, maximum your drivers can handle minuas a bit
03:52 PM Tom_L: 48v min
03:53 PM Loetmichel: a stepper that can move 300rom at 12 V can do 600rpm with the same torque if the drivers get spplied with 24V
03:53 PM Loetmichel: and you WANT speed for that big machine
03:56 PM Loetmichel: Tom_L: my big machine (1020mm by 1500mm travel) had 36V drivers. limiting was the critical RPM of the y axis ballscrews, not the steppers
03:56 PM Loetmichel: at 70mm/sec
03:56 PM Loetmichel: the steppers could do 100mm/sec
03:57 PM Loetmichel: but the oscillations on y go so bad if you exceeded 70mm/sec that it lost steps
03:57 PM Tom_L: what would doubling the current do if the system would handle it?
03:58 PM Tom_L: i'm currently running my steppers at 2.5A and they could be running at 5
03:58 PM Tom_L: but it does quite well as it is
03:59 PM nvz: well what I got so far on my amazon list is https://www.amazon.com/ideas/amzn1.account.AHTV2KRECA3O42Y4RDQ7WPR2PMJQ/NNCHNUORWEFQ
04:00 PM nvz: gonna make all the table/gantry out of wood most likely
04:00 PM Tom_L: if you want some good steppers: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3pcs-NEMA23-570OZ-IN-5A-3-8-DUAL-SHAFT-STEPPER-MOTOR/253223632606?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
04:01 PM Tom_L: for $3 more per stepper
04:02 PM nvz: I was gonna use two motors to move the ganrty
04:02 PM nvz: the DIY Builds guy that blew my mind with the DIN rails, used only 270oz/in motors on his.. mine are 425
04:02 PM Tom_L: drag chain is wide
04:02 PM Tom_L: iirc mine was 10x15
04:02 PM nvz: yeah well I may wanna add lights, other tools..etc..
04:03 PM nvz: plus with the din rail design all the motors are gonna be on the gantry..
04:03 PM nvz: so all the wiring is going up there
04:03 PM nvz: cause its gonna use an open belt design with tensioners
04:04 PM nvz: so most all the wiring in the machine is going through one drive chain along the Y axis
04:04 PM nvz: and to accomodate possible router/laser/lights/camera etc.. at some point.. I figured I'd go big on that
04:05 PM nvz: might even wanna work in cooling, vaccume, heating plate, extruder..etc at some point
04:05 PM nvz: I was almost worried it wouldnt' be enough :P
04:05 PM nvz: with the motors on the table and screws, you don't need all that drive train space
04:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/Y_Dragchain_Bottom.jpg
04:06 PM nvz: but when all the motors are being wired through the y-axis drag chain..
04:06 PM Tom_L: Y axis chain
04:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/X_Axis_Dragchain.jpg
04:06 PM Tom_L: X
04:08 PM Tom_L: but mine's not a gantry
04:10 PM nvz: yeah
04:10 PM nvz: idk looking up the spec it says the 780 USFF has no expanstion.. I thought it did.. heh
04:10 PM * nvz looks
04:12 PM nvz: nope.. oh well :P
04:12 PM nvz: so you can't even over USB3 or such get the low enough latency?
04:13 PM nvz: I was thinking of using this ebay.com/itm/Raspberry-Pi-3-Protoneer-RPi-CNC-Hat-V2-60-GRBL-v1-1-Compatible/322650025075
04:13 PM nvz: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Raspberry-Pi-3-Protoneer-RPi-CNC-Hat-V2-60-GRBL-v1-1-Compatible/322650025075
04:14 PM nvz: says it can power off the 12-30V dc from the hat
04:14 PM nvz: I'd need an SD card for it.. but I wasnt sure the old Pi-3 1GB would be powerful enough
04:15 PM nvz: a newer pi4 4gb I could probably run the whole shebang, design, converting to gcode, linuxcnc.. everything without a doubt
04:19 PM nvz: I'm going for something similar to what this guy did https://www.diybuilds.ca/shop-project-plans.html
04:19 PM nvz: just not gonna go with the whole cabinet, using better motors/controllers and such
04:20 PM nvz: the reason his machine is noisy is no doubt due to the 1/16th controllers
04:20 PM nvz: the controllers I have are 16x the resolution capable
04:22 PM nvz: Tom_L: your machine being metal is probably a lot heavier.. I dont thing I need bigger motors than the 425 for that kinda design.. that DIYBuilds guy only used 270 on his
04:22 PM nvz: plus I'm not moving the whole project, just the gantry
04:22 PM nvz: and gonna go with two motors to move the gantry back and forth
04:22 PM nvz: clone the Y axis
04:23 PM nvz: crap like that is why I can understand the latency and parallel vs serial operation stuff
04:23 PM nvz: it'd need to have both motors moving in sync
04:26 PM gloops: linuxcnc 2.8 makes independent signals for each motor - you can control each motor independently - better for homing
04:26 PM nvz: with that pi hat I could put drivers right on the hat.. but the DM556 seem like a better option.. easier to cool 4 seperate drivers than sandwiching them all onto the pi.. they have dip switches to adjust the settings..
04:27 PM nvz: and I figured the pi being the brain rather than an ardunio, I could more easily tweak and add things
04:32 PM nvz: I mean that hat is only using 12 of the pins, leaves me a lot of room to add other crap
04:33 PM nvz: down the road if I want to add other crap
04:34 PM skunkworks: nvz: I don't think the pi will drive i/o fast enough for software stepping
04:37 PM pfred1: oh no?
04:37 PM pfred1: I software step with a parallel port Pi is worse than that?
04:38 PM pfred1: I think i get like 35 kHz?
04:38 PM nvz: https://periph.io/news/2017/gpio_perf/
04:39 PM nvz: these tests yeilded over 10Mhz on the RPI3
04:39 PM nvz: with optimizations
04:39 PM pfred1: nvz 10 MHz would drive the dog wild
04:40 PM pfred1: gotta love voicecoiling stepper motors
04:40 PM nvz: I got no experience in this what so ever so.. heh
04:41 PM pfred1: when you try to run a stepper motor too fast it doesn't run it just whines
04:41 PM nvz: I've got an orangepi lite here I used for awhile when I had to save up to be broke.. as my main computer
04:41 PM pfred1: stepper motors are kind of like speakers
04:41 PM pfred1: you know electromagnets?
04:42 PM pfred1: I run my CNC machine on a thrift store PC
04:42 PM pfred1: I think grand total it cost me $12?
04:42 PM pfred1: that's the tower, monitor, keyboard and mouse
04:43 PM nvz: yeah.. well getting an old pc isnt a problem
04:43 PM pfred1: a lot of old PCs can run a CNC machine
04:43 PM pfred1: my first machine I picked out of a rubbish pile
04:43 PM nvz: I just figured the pi would be more flexible and probably perform better than some parallel port on a dinosaur..
04:44 PM pfred1: it was a 1 GHz P3
04:44 PM nvz: and would use a small fraction of the power
04:44 PM pfred1: I couldn't get the step rates i wanted out of it
04:44 PM pfred1: but it still ran
04:44 PM skunkworks: pfred1: yes - currently the only realtime is rt_preempt so latency into the 100us
04:44 PM nvz: the pi were designed for tinkering.. with modern considerations
04:45 PM nvz: and this is the 3rd revision of the pi with the 2.60 (latest) revision of the hat
04:45 PM pfred1: yeah I think a Pi has more horsepower than a P3 does
04:45 PM pfred1: like twice the performance?
04:45 PM nvz: https://wiki.protoneer.co.nz/Raspberry_Pi_CNC is the page for the hat
04:46 PM nvz: that ebay thing for $80 I linked has the latest 2.60 hat with a RPI 3
04:46 PM pfred1: I went parallel port because it is simple
04:46 PM nvz: just needs to be hooked to 12-30V and put in an SD card with linux on it
04:46 PM pfred1: sounds easy enough
04:47 PM nvz: yeah well I was thinking of doing that for the same reason. save a little money, go simple to start
04:47 PM pfred1: can't get cheaper than a PC off a rubbish pile
04:47 PM nvz: my reasoning on the pi hat thing was the pi has a 40pin connector.. the hat only uses 12 of those pins.. I still got a lot of pins to add other crap later via a breadboard or such
04:47 PM pfred1: oh lordy I don't know about these motor drives
04:48 PM pfred1: how many Watts can they put out?
04:48 PM nvz: I'm not using one of htose
04:48 PM nvz: gonna use the external driver boards
04:48 PM pfred1: you're better off
04:48 PM nvz: with DM556 drivers for each motor
04:48 PM nvz: that hat is just to give me easy connections for everything to the pi
04:49 PM nvz: and handle the gcode via grbl firmware
04:49 PM pfred1: well that ain't LinuxCNC
04:49 PM nvz: why not?
04:49 PM pfred1: because it is GRBL
04:50 PM nvz: hmm.. I thought grbl was what it used
04:50 PM pfred1: LinuxCNC is motion control software
04:50 PM pfred1: no LinuxCNC been around a long time
04:50 PM nvz: oh.. it talks directly to the controllers? hmm..
04:50 PM pfred1: it is a fork of a NIST project called EMC
04:51 PM pfred1: apparently there's an African clothing company called EMC though
04:51 PM pfred1: so the project changed names
04:52 PM pfred1: used to be EMC2
04:53 PM nvz: yeah.. idk.. all I know is you sketch something in a 3d modeller like inkscape or such, have a tool run over and make the steps, convert that to gcode, then hand that off to something that actually drives the machine
04:53 PM pfred1: Inkscape is a vector drawing program
04:53 PM pfred1: so decidedly 2D
04:54 PM nvz: yes, well also way easier to understand than blender,.. sketchup was easy but afaik its no longer free
04:54 PM pfred1: but you can do 2.5D with 2D files
04:54 PM pfred1: what i do is draw in Inkscape and export it as a DXF
04:55 PM pfred1: I tried to use that G Code module in Inkscape and I can't get it to work
04:55 PM pfred1: so then I open the DXF in libreCAD and save it
04:55 PM pfred1: then I use DXF2GCode to generate the G Code
04:56 PM pfred1: DXF2GCode doesn't like the dialect of DXF that Inkscape outputs
04:56 PM nvz: https://wiki.protoneer.co.nz/Raspberry_Pi_CNC_-_Quick_Start_Guide
04:56 PM nvz: shows using bCNC cause I guess the hat does the conversion to gcode via gbrl using its firmware
04:57 PM pfred1: your CAM generates G Code
04:57 PM pfred1: which a motion controller translates into step and direction signals
04:58 PM Deejay: gn8
04:58 PM pfred1: nite
04:59 PM nvz: idk, that alone is reason enough to not use this approach.. cause I know linuxcnc is actively developed and has support available
05:00 PM pfred1: I'm teed off that FreeCAD doesn't meaningfully support US Customary Units
05:00 PM pfred1: I suppose I could scale its output still ticks me off though
05:03 PM nvz: yeah.. that is annoying when you're used to those measurements
05:04 PM nvz: I fooled a lot with opensim/secondlife which is also in meters :D
05:04 PM roycroft: hi folks
05:04 PM roycroft: phred1: 0.19 supports us customary units just fine
05:05 PM pfred1: roycroft it looks like it
05:05 PM roycroft: go to preferences->units
05:05 PM pfred1: roycroft I'm not completely ignorant
05:05 PM nvz: this bcnc looks fairly usable, and actively developed but I dont see a support channel for it like this
05:05 PM pfred1: roycroft FreeCAD stores length internally in metric
05:05 PM nvz: and if the gbrl means no linuxcnc, then I probably dont wanna use that
05:05 PM pfred1: roycroft the kraut that made the stuff made sure it'd never support US Units
05:06 PM nvz: cause I also dont see how to do the fine tuning linuxcnc does with this
05:06 PM roycroft: i don't think that degrading language is appropriate here
05:06 PM pfred1: roycroft people been carrying on for almost 20 years now
05:06 PM pfred1: and the lip service that's been paid is about as good as it's going to get
05:06 PM roycroft: anyway, i have a precision ground straightedge
05:07 PM pfred1: when you go to export a file it's metric
05:07 PM roycroft: accurate to 0.0002"/ft
05:07 PM Tom_L: until you drop it
05:07 PM roycroft: it is about 2" wide, and 1/4" thick
05:07 PM pfred1: I dropped one of my angle grinders the other day and busted the nut off of it
05:07 PM roycroft: i want to drill a small hole in one end so i can hang it on a wall
05:07 PM roycroft: to avoid exactly what tom_l suggested
05:08 PM roycroft: is that likely to move the metal at the end enough to affect precision?
05:08 PM roycroft: it's best to grind after all other operations, of course
05:08 PM roycroft: but that's not how it is
05:18 PM SpeedEvil: Sigh.
05:18 PM SpeedEvil: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001154WTS
05:18 PM SpeedEvil: wolfcraft 4685000 Mobile Drilling aid
05:19 PM SpeedEvil: The guides - 25mm long - are all exactly 0.7mm oversize
05:19 PM pfred1: I need a better spindle
05:20 PM nvz: what I don't understand is while this seems a lot simpler, I dont see anyone inputting all the info about teeth and gears and stuff when using a rpi and grbl.. how the hell does it even work without knowing this information?!
05:20 PM pfred1: I got one of them "500 Watt" air cooled numbers
05:20 PM pfred1: 500 Watts my eye
05:20 PM SpeedEvil: A whole four degrees play.
05:20 PM pfred1: it's 100 Watts if it's lucky
05:21 PM pfred1: China must exist at the bottom of a dimensional vortex
05:21 PM pfred1: because everything is bigger there
05:24 PM JT-Shop: Jon Elson just left...
05:31 PM Tom_L: :(
05:32 PM JT-Shop: finally got to meet him

07:54 PM _unreal_: not kidding at all
07:54 PM XXCoder: yeah im not about to drink any anytime :)
07:56 PM _unreal_: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UPLy2kcGQoM/TkaM7x_yTtI/AAAAAAAACuY/Rp4fyPWj0fs/s1600/Atlantic+Brewing+Bar+Harbor+Real+Ale.JPG
07:57 PM _unreal_: I'd be tongue the bottle if I had some here
07:57 PM _unreal_: tonging
07:57 PM _unreal_: soooo good
07:57 PM jymmmm: _unreal_: where's the kid?
08:00 PM XXCoder: wrapped in a box
09:29 PM ve7it: _unreal_, merry xmas... did the big family turkey dinner today, so the computer has been neglected....
09:35 PM XXCoder: yo merry xmas
09:48 PM ve7it: yes sir, and to all a good fright!
09:48 PM XXCoder: lol
09:49 PM ve7it: its supposed to be raining reindeer here shortly
09:49 PM XXCoder: in least its not reindeer byproduct ;_
09:49 PM Tom_L: don't look up
09:50 PM ve7it: oh look dad... reindeer nuggets
09:50 PM XXCoder: lol
09:50 PM ve7it: poor kids dont have a chance these days
10:48 PM _unreal_: poor poor computer
10:48 PM _unreal_: been outside with my daughter having a camp fire in the fire pit
10:50 PM XXCoder: finished building my laser toy
10:50 PM XXCoder: not too bad, though video is way too fast and text instructions is only partial
10:51 PM XXCoder: AND theres been design changes, had to figure stuff out
11:03 PM _unreal_: must be china made
11:03 PM _unreal_: working on getting the kid into bed
11:03 PM _unreal_: we'
11:03 PM _unreal_: we've been sitting out by the fire
11:07 PM elmo40: ve7it, did you feel the earthquakes?
11:14 PM XXCoder: unreal of course it is
11:21 PM _unreal_: omg I'm so glad I wrapped everything today
11:21 PM _unreal_: I'd be up till 2am
11:30 PM _unreal_: there just finished doing my best santa penmanship
11:30 PM _unreal_: sigh
11:32 PM XXCoder: lol
11:34 PM _unreal_: I still have to bring the last few things out and do my cookie duty
11:34 PM ve7it: _unreal_, no quakes felt here... we are right on bedrock... usually we dont get much of anything... sometimes a bang, but have never felt a shaker here
11:34 PM _unreal_: and pack her stocking
11:34 PM _unreal_: heh
11:34 PM _unreal_: quake?
11:34 PM _unreal_: oh ve7it what did you think of the items?
11:34 PM _unreal_: I assume you've had little time to play
11:35 PM ve7it: I cant wait to get rid of our guests so I can play in the shack.... have you any insites on the pinout of the connectors?
11:35 PM _unreal_: directly no
11:36 PM _unreal_: I've had SOOO little time to do anything
11:36 PM _unreal_: I assume youve at least dug through the package
11:36 PM ve7it: motors feel good, that gyro board looks very high teck
11:36 PM _unreal_: the encoder FYI unless you've taken it out already
11:36 PM _unreal_: just had 2 pieces of tape to keep the encoder from banging around during shipping
11:37 PM _unreal_: 2 screws to remove the lid and the encoder is totaly free inside the shell.
11:37 PM ve7it: should be ok... I have unwrapped it, but should probably get the tape off before it marks the disk with sticky goo
11:37 PM ve7it: have not..
11:37 PM _unreal_: not touching the encoder
11:38 PM ve7it: ah.. no problem then
11:38 PM _unreal_: just the metal collar
11:38 PM _unreal_: ya I taped it because I was affraid the plastic encoder disk would get messed up
11:39 PM _unreal_: even if the tape is touching. little rubbing alcohol and it would be clean in a heart beat
11:39 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I dont know for sure but there is a small chance you could read the current logic chip
11:39 PM _unreal_: err controler
11:40 PM _unreal_: it has a programming port
11:40 PM _unreal_: I dont know the chip number off the top of my head
11:40 PM ve7it: I just checked the motor rear housing you sent.. it looks like it uses skate bearings 608-2RS... not sure if the shaft size is correct, but the bearing is a press fit into the housing
11:40 PM _unreal_: I think its a motorola risk chip
11:41 PM _unreal_: loose fit and normally has a spring washer
11:41 PM ve7it: you might be able to repair the motor with the bad bearings
11:41 PM _unreal_: ya I was thinking about that
11:41 PM _unreal_: I have YET to get a chance to try and pull them
11:42 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I could be worng but the gyro likely is just a serial or analog output
11:42 PM _unreal_: I do not believe its i2c
11:43 PM _unreal_: yet the chip its self supports SPI, I2C, ANALOG, SERAIL... all depends on the board its mounted to . as to how its interfaced
11:43 PM ve7it: maybe its something like I2C serial... I will do some checking, but would like to get some motors spinning
11:43 PM _unreal_: you see what I mean in regards to the motor controllers NOTHING to them
11:43 PM _unreal_: few caps, few resistors, and the motor drivers. and the 3 logic chips
11:51 PM ve7it: https://imgur.com/a/GIZt4sg was messing with the laser on the 3d printer making a coaster
11:52 PM ve7it: a little over cooked, but was the first burn... the spruce wood was very flamable!
11:56 PM ve7it: _unreal_, off to bed... was a long day.... watch out for santa falling down the chimney or reindeer nuggets falling from the sky
