02:50 AM pascalrs: moin
05:00 AM Tom_L: morning
05:00 AM jthornton: morning
05:05 AM XXCoder: heys
07:21 AM beachbumpete1: Morning :)
07:22 AM XXCoder: yo
07:22 AM beachbumpete1: Howzitgoin
07:22 AM XXCoder: just watching myfordboy video
07:22 AM XXCoder: hes casting 2 flywheel types at once
07:23 AM beachbumpete1: youtuber?
07:23 AM beachbumpete1: ah
07:23 AM XXCoder: mostly zinc 12% alum
07:23 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni9TnjL05_k
07:23 AM beachbumpete1: Im at work will check it out when I get off today
07:23 AM XXCoder: cool
07:23 AM beachbumpete1: I got one of those Cinewhoop frames almost 3D printed last night
07:24 AM beachbumpete1: looks pretty cool so far
07:24 AM XXCoder: the ram horn thingy
07:24 AM beachbumpete1: are you getting into casting
07:24 AM XXCoder: nah i always watch new myfordboy
07:24 AM XXCoder: no way to do any kind of casting here
07:24 AM beachbumpete1: no I got the second half of the nautilus speaker printed this weekend
07:24 AM XXCoder: I do plan pewler casting for fun someday
07:25 AM beachbumpete1: I gotta print two more halves so I can make two speakers
07:25 AM XXCoder: because its so dang easy
07:25 AM XXCoder: ah drone
07:25 AM XXCoder: whoop type
07:26 AM beachbumpete1: yeah man it is a race drone kind of quad but it has fan shrouds and is powerful enough to carry a gopro or similar
07:26 AM beachbumpete1: they are fantastic aerial video platforms
07:27 AM beachbumpete1: cant wait to fly it
07:27 AM XXCoder: cool :) I bought cheap one and tried to fly it. too weak to stay in weak wind
07:27 AM beachbumpete1: gotta order the guts after Christmas
07:27 AM beachbumpete1: These can handle typical outdoor flying with ease
07:27 AM XXCoder: how much will yours be overall
07:27 AM beachbumpete1: check out dison cinewhoop on youtube
07:27 AM beachbumpete1: money?
07:28 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:28 AM beachbumpete1: These are fairly cheap[
07:29 AM beachbumpete1: 3D printed frame, maybe a hundred or two in electronics motors and props etc, then your gopro that is if you already have a transmitter and goggles etc....
07:30 AM XXCoder: yeah it gets expensive with latter :)
07:30 AM XXCoder: and i still dont know if I use goggles would i get dizzy or not
07:30 AM beachbumpete1: a bit but you only buy that stuff once
07:30 AM beachbumpete1: you use it for all your drones etc..
07:30 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:32 AM beachbumpete1: well I gotta get some work done. Have a great day man.
07:32 AM jthornton: fatshark finally came out with some goggles for folks that need reading glasses
07:32 AM XXCoder: geez
07:39 AM XXCoder: graphite machining stormtrooper helmet
07:40 AM XXCoder: watched open caption star wars movie today. awesome
07:52 AM jthornton: the latest one?
07:53 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:54 AM XXCoder: open caption is awesome. no dumb tech dtuff to deal with that I can easily think up a better design of, and i meet bunch of people I know and chat
07:54 AM jthornton: we saw that last Thursday, XPO has private showings for their customers often
08:00 AM XXCoder: fancy
09:56 AM Loetmichel: soo, video projector problem solved... "just" spent 390Eur on a new 40" TV and some wall mount/cables. MAAN impulse buys are the worst ;) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17625&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
10:28 AM fjungclaus1 is now known as fjungclaus
10:34 AM jymmmm: Good Morning folks
10:35 AM jymmmm: Alright, who's getting the biggest bag of coal this year???
10:43 AM roycroft: prime minister morrison, i should think, jymmmm
10:44 AM jymmmm: That naughty huh?
10:44 AM roycroft: while australia are seeing day after day of all-time record highs, and the entire continent is burning, morrison continues to double down on climate change denial and expound the virtuals of a coal-based energy economy
10:44 AM roycroft: virtues
10:45 AM roycroft: i think someone should drop a 10-tonne sack of coal on his head
10:45 AM jymmmm: Still is looking at coal for a solution????
10:47 AM roycroft: he thinks it is the future
10:47 AM roycroft: which is is, if you go back in time 200 years
10:47 AM jymmmm: -sigh-
11:04 AM gregcnc: hmmm "The problem with surveillance capitalism (social media) is that the people who don't participate are identified for further scrutiny. When 80% of the population invites surveillance into their lives, they're not the ones who are interesting. It's the 20% who don't."
12:15 PM Loetmichel: gnhihi, that poor raspberry pi... the power flash appears 2 secs after the thing shows the three berrys at bootup... well, the TVs USB port DOES say "5V500mA"... but it works. just installing Virtual here so i can use the HOTAS on Steam link. gaming silently while in bed... what could be better? ;)
12:33 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: HOTAS?
12:34 PM Loetmichel: Hands On Throttle And Stick a.k.a: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=15568&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
12:42 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: you are using that in bed?!
12:42 PM Loetmichel: jymmmm: yes. thats the plan ;)
12:50 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: SMH lol
01:36 PM jymmmm: Just curious... Is anyone using LCNC as a glorified hot glue gun ("3D printer") ???
01:38 PM Loetmichel: jymmmm: google "repstrap"
01:38 PM Loetmichel: you can do it, but its usually only done to print the "correct" printer parts
01:40 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: could you elaborate please
01:40 PM Loetmichel: the only reason to use a CNC mill as a 3dprinter is to make the parts needed to make a 3dprinter
01:41 PM Loetmichel: so yes, you can print on a CNC mill. but its usually not done unless its your first printer
01:41 PM Loetmichel: because CNC mills are SLOOOOW
01:41 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: No no, I mean LCNC (as in Linuxcnc)
01:41 PM Loetmichel: yeah, i assumed that LCNC is connected to a CNC mill
01:41 PM Loetmichel: there is no reason to use it on a 3dprinter
01:41 PM Loetmichel: it is not optimized to do that
01:42 PM Loetmichel: better use marlin.
01:42 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: I have a cnc router, I could swap the spindle head for a glue gun
01:43 PM Loetmichel: yes, but use marlin on an Ardunio or similar to run the router
01:43 PM Loetmichel: dont use LCNC
01:43 PM Loetmichel: its way to much work to make that happen.
01:43 PM jymmmm: what is too much work?
01:43 PM Loetmichel: (you have to have it interpret all the "M" codes for temp control and stuff and E for extruder axis instead of A and so on.
01:44 PM jymmmm: ah
01:44 PM Loetmichel: not to mention the thermostat hardware for head and bed
01:44 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: thermo HW, such as?
01:44 PM Loetmichel: thermistor inputs and fets to heat the bed
01:45 PM Loetmichel: and the classic ladder to implement the temperature regulation
01:45 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: But if I wanted to retrofit my router, what hardware would I want to be looking at specifically?
01:47 PM Loetmichel: i would simply buy a cheap printer mainboard
01:47 PM Loetmichel: it has all the hardware you need and usually comes with Marlin ;)
01:47 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: link?
01:48 PM Loetmichel: and then either use the stepper drivers on board or find the step/dir pins and route them to your routers stepper drivers
01:48 PM Loetmichel: moment
01:49 PM Loetmichel: https://www.amazon.de/Drucker-1-4-Controller-Mega2560-R3-A4988-mit-K%C3%BChlk%C3%B6rper/dp/B07DJ3WBCP
01:49 PM Loetmichel: for examlpe
01:49 PM Loetmichel: but you still have the probelm that the router will be pretty slow
01:49 PM Loetmichel: 3dprinters usually print at 70 to 200mm/sec
01:50 PM Loetmichel: even the cheap ones can do 50mm/sec
01:51 PM Loetmichel: jym: can you imagine your router to move like that? -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqOiytidZOM
01:51 PM Loetmichel: if yes: by all means: try it
01:52 PM Loetmichel: buy a ramps, buy a 12V20A PSU, buy an extruder head and a hotbed and try ;)
01:52 PM Loetmichel: or buy a cheap $120 3dprinter and dismantle all the parts you need ;)
01:53 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: My router can jog at 100IPM, sometimes pushing it to 120IPM
01:54 PM Loetmichel: still only half of what you would need ;)
01:54 PM gloops: man i just entered my bank details to buy an stl file and it turns out to be some shady slovakian setup
01:54 PM jymmmm: INCHES PER Minute, not MM
01:54 PM Loetmichel: it will work but be pretty slow
01:54 PM gloops: ive got a bad feeling about this...
01:55 PM Loetmichel: jym: 100 inches per minute is still only 50mm/sec ;)
01:55 PM jymmmm: ah
01:55 PM jymmmm: gloops: You in the US? Used a crdit card?
01:56 PM Loetmichel: ahem 42mm/sec ;)
01:56 PM gloops: im in the UK, was a debit card yeah
01:57 PM jymmmm: gloops: IDK the UK laws, but IN the US you can call the CC company and dispute the transaction as fraudulant and your safe
01:58 PM gloops: well, they havent actually done anything wrong yet, ill see if i get an email from them
01:58 PM jymmmm: gloops: ok
01:58 PM gloops: probably me being suspicious lol
01:58 PM jymmmm: gloops: not a bad thing.
01:58 PM gloops: i usually only buy with paypal
01:59 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: did you get a refund yet?
01:59 PM Loetmichel: nope
01:59 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: Did you file a dispute?
01:59 PM Loetmichel: nope
01:59 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: File it, I already got a refund
02:01 PM Loetmichel: just did
02:01 PM Loetmichel: waiting 3 days now
02:02 PM jymmmm: ok
02:02 PM Loetmichel: second one still is active now
02:02 PM Loetmichel: and still says "delivered"
02:02 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: 2nd one?
02:02 PM Loetmichel: ah, "in transit" sorry
02:02 PM Loetmichel: https://www.ebay.de/itm/MTS-205-Amp-MIG-Wire-Feed-Welder-Flux-Cored-Wire-TIG-Stick-Arc-DC-Combo-Welding/383305822319
02:03 PM Loetmichel: that one
02:03 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: did you get a tracking number?
02:03 PM Loetmichel: "Lieferung ca. Fr, 03. Jan - Fr, 07. Feb
02:03 PM Loetmichel: Der Artikel wurde verschickt."
02:03 PM Loetmichel: no
02:03 PM jymmmm: I don't speak dutche
02:05 PM Loetmichel: Lieferung= delivery date
02:05 PM jymmmm: ah
02:05 PM Loetmichel: "der artikel wurde verschickt" "the article has been sent"
02:05 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: So you still hoping somethng shows up at your door?
02:05 PM Loetmichel: i do
02:06 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: I hope you do too
02:06 PM jymmmm: It just had too many different sellers witht he same MO
02:06 PM jymmmm: then all/most of them went "poof"
02:07 PM Loetmichel: ebay did a cleanup routine?`
02:09 PM jymmmm: Yeah
02:10 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: Search ebay for "MTS-205" and you wont see as many anymore
02:12 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: The sellers sold a single item a ways back, got a bunch of good ratings, THEN start selling the welder.
02:12 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: That's the MO I've noticed, including the seller we bought from
02:13 PM Loetmichel: yes, noticed
02:13 PM Loetmichel: someone sold quite a few bathing briefs ;)
02:13 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, no welder ehh?
02:15 PM jymmmm: Tom_L Got a msg from ebay "This seller is no longer registered", then I filed a dispute and got a refund.
02:19 PM Tom_L: gloops run them thru paypal
02:43 PM XXCoder: my rspi4 arrived early
03:29 PM jym: XXCoder: Bummer, they just released the rPi5
03:30 PM XXCoder: oh too damn bad
03:36 PM XXCoder: whooo amazing windmill rant
03:41 PM jym: XXCoder: lol
03:42 PM XXCoder: I wonder when he will put on a sorta rusty old medivial suit and start tilting at them
03:42 PM XXCoder: needs a horse and assistant
03:42 PM XXCoder: and another 2 assistant to get on horse
03:44 PM XXCoder: "I never understood wind, I know windmills very much, I've studied them more than anyone..."
03:44 PM jym: XXCoder: Well, if you dont have a horse, you could always put on a jester hat instead :)
03:44 PM XXCoder: it's like knowing a lot about car and not understanding how solid surface works
03:45 PM jym: XXCoder: Press on gas, you go. What more is there to know?
03:45 PM XXCoder: lol
03:46 PM Tom_L: might need a brake
03:46 PM gregcnc: for what
03:46 PM Tom_L: that a hole riding your arse
03:47 PM gregcnc: more hp and he can't keep up
03:47 PM XXCoder: I make cars to go. Not to stop. Ettore Bugatti
03:47 PM Tom_L: his need a 55gal drum strapped to em to go very far though
03:48 PM XXCoder: jym point is that understanding windmill without understanding wind doesn't make sense
03:49 PM p0g0: uhm, don't waste time thinking that the Peach makes sense...
03:49 PM gregcnc: that's ok only another 4 years of this? then surely we'll have picked someone much better....
03:50 PM p0g0: gregcnc: Who, Elbridge Gerry?
03:51 PM gregcnc: anyone right?
03:51 PM p0g0: You know the phrase "A Yellow Dog Democrat"?
03:58 PM _unreal_: hehe ve7it tracking. STILL in transit
03:59 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I bet itwill show up tomorrow OR after christmas
03:59 PM ve7it: says it got to my post office this morning... just checked the mail, nothing yet, but I think they are running late with deleiveries today
03:59 PM _unreal_: ! could be today then
03:59 PM ve7it: coul be
04:00 PM ve7it: could be
04:00 PM _unreal_: its what 1 or noon for you?
04:00 PM _unreal_: almost 5 here
04:02 PM ve7it: just about 2pm here
04:03 PM _unreal_: hum
04:04 PM _unreal_: how late do you get fedex packages?
04:05 PM ve7it: was just thinking about what I have for encoders... I have some nice industrial ones, but they are about the size of the motors.. might work for testing as I can couple them onto the motor shaft easily... pretty sure thay are 24V so that works well using the motor supply.
04:05 PM _unreal_: I included an encoder
04:05 PM _unreal_: quadrature
04:06 PM _unreal_: oh speaking of
04:06 PM _unreal_: I assume it should be ok
04:06 PM _unreal_: I taped the encoder disk so it " should " be ok
04:06 PM _unreal_: the encoder will fit a motor CAP I included
04:06 PM ve7it: packages by courier are usually around supper time... we are out in the boonies and the end of the delivery route I think.
04:07 PM _unreal_: Though I'm sure you'll figure out a way to use it IF you use it
04:08 PM ve7it: ok.. might have to extend the motor shaft for the encoder? doable on the lathe but a pain in the ass to get a 1/2" of shaft out the back of the motor
04:09 PM _unreal_: heh
04:09 PM _unreal_: I was thinking mount the encoder to the CAP
04:09 PM _unreal_: use a bearing
04:10 PM _unreal_: in the cap, mount the cap to something and use a coupler
04:10 PM _unreal_: rather then modifying the current motors
04:10 PM Deejay: gn8
04:11 PM _unreal_: Deejay, sit. stay
04:11 PM _unreal_: stay.....
04:11 PM _unreal_: go lay down
04:14 PM _unreal_: ok let me try that again, ve7it I would suggest making a jig to hold the encoder, turning a dowel IF as needed, to fit the encoder collar and a bearing that will fit in the motor cap that I included. mount the encoder base and encoder disk to the shaft. etc... and then couple that setup to the motor
04:14 PM _unreal_: ve7it, ?
05:25 PM ve7it: _unreal_, sorry, xmas company arrived... took them for a walk to the mailbox to see if there was any goodies... NOTHING!
05:26 PM Tom_L: not even a lump of coal?
05:27 PM ve7it: I guess I was a bad boy this year
05:45 PM _unreal_: to bad for coal DAMN!
05:45 PM _unreal_: ya I'm heading out to go start my shopping
05:45 PM _unreal_: soon
05:45 PM _unreal_: christmas shopping
05:45 PM _unreal_: finishing tomorrow. and then picking up my daughter
06:59 PM ve7it: _unreal_, Yahoo!.. got a package... just in time.... 4:45 here and dark.... off to play with new toys
07:00 PM elmo40: ve7it, did you feel the Earth shake?
07:26 PM gregcnc: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/
07:42 PM jym: ve7it: what toys did you get?
07:50 PM elmo40: news said 6.0 for one of them. that is a lot!
08:18 PM _unreal_: jym, he got my package
08:18 PM _unreal_: ve7it, you live?
08:25 PM _unreal_: he must be KNEE deep in the toys I sent him
08:26 PM _unreal_: 3 very expensive BLDC motors, few motor controller for them, some extra controller chips, and other items and some sensors
08:28 PM _unreal_: all 13 years old and 13 years of active service in the marine environment. but still working
08:29 PM _unreal_: and its quiet
08:30 PM _unreal_: ve7it, the motor controller BOARD. I'm 99% sure was setup and running 24v BTW
08:30 PM _unreal_: and they have there own internal step down liner regulators
09:40 PM _unreal_: ve7it, You must really be enjoying the new toys? OR company ;)
09:52 PM _unreal_: or dinner
