01:50 AM Deejay: moin
05:12 AM jthornton: morning
05:13 AM miss0r2: goodmorning
05:13 AM * miss0r2 is messing around with the land rover.
05:13 AM miss0r2: I have oil pressure issues
05:16 AM jthornton: too low?
05:16 AM miss0r2: yeah
05:17 AM miss0r2: 22 psi short of ideal
05:18 AM miss0r2: I am suspecting a cam bearing has shifted
05:19 AM jthornton: are they just pressed in place?
05:20 AM miss0r2: yeah
05:23 AM jthornton: odd 22 is how many pounds of fat I need to shed
05:23 AM miss0r2: please put'em in my engine then
05:24 AM jthornton: I'm guessing it's not trivial to get to them...
05:27 AM Tom_L: morning
05:28 AM jthornton: morning
05:31 AM Tom_L: 28°F, Hi 51
05:32 AM jthornton: 36°F - 41°F
05:33 AM XXCoder: heys
05:33 AM Tom_L: trying to learn verilog over again...
05:33 AM XXCoder: 41-40f heh cloudy
09:31 AM Elmo40: miss0r2, is the oil fresh or ready to change? thin oil can display lower pressure than normal
09:31 AM Elmo40: but then again, 22 psi is a lot...
09:57 AM jymmmm: Unless it's water pressure in the shower :D
12:21 PM jymmmm: Good morning folks :)
12:21 PM * jymmmm never knew it was so difficult to find a LED motion light, eeeesh
12:30 PM Rab: jymmmm, Home Despot's full of that stuff...what are you looking for in particular?
12:31 PM jymmmm: Rab: 270 degree sensor, 5000K+, DIM MODE <---- That's the biggy that's hard to find
12:32 PM jymmmm: 3000LM+
12:32 PM Rab: I see there are self-contained PAR38 bulbs which have an LED ring and the motion stuff built in...that's pretty neat.
12:32 PM jymmmm: link?
12:33 PM Rab: https://www.homedepot.com/p/KODO-120-Watt-Equivalent-PAR38-LED-Motion-Sensor-Flood-Light-Bulb-Daylight-2-Pack-1003032302/308185716
12:33 PM Rab: Looks like mediocre reviews, though.
12:35 PM jymmmm: And no DIM mode
12:36 PM Rab: I got excited a while back when I realized there was a product combining visible and UV LEDs and a bug zapper in light bulb format. Unfortunately so poorly made that they're destined for e-waste.
12:36 PM Rab: What does the dim mode do?
12:36 PM jymmmm: Dim turns on the light at dusk at about 20% brightness. When motion is detected it goes FULL BRIGHT
12:38 PM SpeedEvil: Rab: even cameras
12:38 PM Rab: This has two out of your three features, unfortunately just 2450lm: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Defiant-270-Degree-3-Head-White-LED-Motion-Outdoor-Security-Light-DFI-5988-WH/205937582
12:39 PM Rab: "A DualBrite feature beautifies, protects and saves energy by utilizing accent light from Dusk-to-Dawn and full light when motion is detected."
12:40 PM Rab: SpeedEvil, excellent, my surveillance camera bulb can watch and make sure nobody messes with my surveillance camera phone charger.
12:41 PM jymmmm: Getting close.... and $35 not $100 https://www.amazon.com/LEONLITE-Dual-Head-Motion-Activated-Waterproof-Photocell/dp/B07L5GYBNT/
12:42 PM jymmmm: NO DIM, boo... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WYXNW95/
12:43 PM Tom_L: http://rabdesign.ca/smart-dimming-motion-sensor-ms180dim/
12:43 PM Tom_L: put that on exhisting
12:44 PM * Rab no relation
12:45 PM SpeedEvil: As a stupid point, you can do it with two philips hue motion sensors, and a light.
12:45 PM SpeedEvil: But that's not getting change out of $100
12:46 PM SpeedEvil: Also, adding dim mode to most permenantly powered PIR LED lights would just involve a 100 ohm (or something) ohm resistor across the switching FET
12:48 PM Rab: I think the typical implementation shuts the light off completely in the daytime.
12:49 PM SpeedEvil: yeah - but 0.5W*365*16=~$0
12:53 PM jymmmm: I"m happy with the sensor I have now, but it's halogen bulbs, and cna't just swap for LED due to the internal inverter
12:53 PM SpeedEvil: inverter? For halogen bulbs?
12:54 PM jymmmm: AC to DC
12:54 PM SpeedEvil: Oh - you mean a HF LV output transformer
12:54 PM jymmmm: yeah
12:55 PM SpeedEvil: Swapping in a LED PSU module is probably the easy way round that if you wanted to
12:56 PM jymmmm: I could use the light head from this, but don't know if the inverter supports dimming, most don't https://www.amazon.com/Security-Lights-Outdoor-Waterproof-Exterior/dp/B07MS8XQ9B
01:12 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: YO!!!
01:16 PM CaptHindsight: wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhht!
01:16 PM CaptHindsight: snuck up again
01:17 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Oh, yeah, I forgot.... Boo ???
01:19 PM Rab: Two very similar stools: https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/office/stools/polyurethane/5-way-adjustable-ergonomic-stool-2 https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/office/stools/polyurethane/polyurethane-4-way-adjustable-stool-with-chrome-base
01:19 PM Rab: Any opinions on what makes the second option a shop stool, and the first not a shop stool?
01:20 PM CaptHindsight: the sales wizards
01:20 PM Rab: Maybe the chrome legs are easier to clean, or something?
01:20 PM CaptHindsight: I'd bet no logic is involved
01:20 PM Rab: Also: does anybody have a favored shop stool solution?
01:20 PM Tom_L: no time to sit in the shop
01:22 PM Rab: My electronics activities have been kicked out into the shop, and while I bought a nice height-adjustable workbench, I think certain types of electronics might best be performed sitting.
01:22 PM Tom_L: hell, then go get a swivel rocker easy chair
01:22 PM jymmmm: Rab Then sit your ASSets on the floor and GIT ER DONE!!! :)
01:22 PM Rab: We have the first type of stool at work, and indeed they're very nice for electronics.
01:23 PM Tom_L: mine is an old wood stool that's been re'glued a number of times
01:23 PM CaptHindsight: I need one with wheels that also lock via "thought control"
01:23 PM Tom_L: used to have a swivel top but that's long since gone
01:24 PM CaptHindsight: without wheels they are never in the right spot
01:24 PM CaptHindsight: with wheels they move around too much
01:24 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: get a level floor
01:24 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/StepperMount1.jpg
01:25 PM Tom_L: there's my fancy stool
01:25 PM Rab: A friend of mine is a senior analog design engineer for a notable company. His home lab has everything on the floor, just a row of exotic RF gear lined up along the walls. I couldn't figure out how he uses it. (Everything was spotlessly clean ofc.)
01:25 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: no it's due to your body moving and having things spread out on a bench
01:25 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: friction lock casters???
01:25 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: does he have ape arms?
01:26 PM Rab: CaptHindsight, he is tall and gangly, so kinda.
01:28 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eySYRB4OUZ4 plase only write using theis accent today
01:29 PM Rab: CaptHindsight, locking shopping cart casters triggered by biometric sensor(s). When your pulse rises, sweat forms, etc either due to rage at the stool moving or because you're trying to do something precisely, the casters lock.
01:30 PM Tom_L: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.summitracing.com%2Fglobal%2Fimages%2Fprod%2Fxlarge%2Frta-rnv34_xl.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.summitracing.com%2Fparts%2Frta-rnv34%2F&docid=GAeXJUZ94CkodM&tbnid=6ePdupAmZ87CsM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwiBhq-I2JfmAhUKjq0KHZhAB38QMwi7Ayg3MDc..i&w=849&h=1200&client=firefox-b-1&bih=618&biw=1022&q=shop%20stool&ved=0ahUKEwiBhq-I2JfmAhUKjq0KHZhAB38QMwi7Ayg3MDc&iact=mrc&uact=8
01:30 PM Rab: Bonus points for detecting line voltage: in that case the casters unlock and you roll safely away.
01:31 PM CaptHindsight: low brow shop stool with throwback to Fink
01:32 PM CaptHindsight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Roth
01:32 PM Rab: Here's my homage: http://reboots.g-cipher.net/8ball/
02:15 PM jymmmm: I'm Baaaaaack... you've been warned!
02:16 PM Deejay: yeah! welcome back!
02:17 PM jymmmm: ty =)
02:17 PM jymmmm: Deejay: Almost yur bedtime :)
02:17 PM Deejay: hehe, indeed
02:17 PM Deejay: about 1,5 hours to go :)
02:18 PM jymmmm: All that beauty sleep.... is it working? <tee hee hee>
02:18 PM jymmmm: Deejay: ^^^^^
02:19 PM Deejay: ;-P
02:21 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
02:24 PM miss0r2: beachbumpete1: So.. any news?
03:29 PM beachbumpete1: missOr2 hey man sorry I have been working a machine repair
03:29 PM beachbumpete1: I tried to run the bearings in yesterday for awhile as we discussed.
03:29 PM beachbumpete1: I got as far as 1500RPM
03:29 PM beachbumpete1: once it is at the RPM level for a little while it starts to sound ok.
03:30 PM beachbumpete1: however when I started to bring it up to 1750RPM after stopping for 5 minutes each time
03:30 PM beachbumpete1: the sounds it was making when I was moving between speeds was not too great.
03:31 PM beachbumpete1: It almost sounds like it is starving for grease but I KNOW i put enough in there as recommended by the bearing supplier
03:31 PM beachbumpete1: I suppose I should just try to get it up past 2kRPM despite the noises and see if it cleans up but I am apprehensive
03:32 PM beachbumpete1: I am also tempted to tear it down and clean out the grease and put fresh grease in it and put it back together again and try it.
03:32 PM beachbumpete1: Either way it is not what I was hoping for.
03:35 PM beachbumpete1: I gotta head home now I will try to get back on here later tonight. Thanks man.
04:27 PM Deejay: gn8
04:51 PM _unreal_: hello

05:04 PM roycroft: it's amazoff.com to me today
05:04 PM Rab: Hmm, shars.com has 15% off.
05:04 PM roycroft: i've extended my tradition of spending $0 on black friday to include cyber monday as well
05:04 PM _unreal_: OH SHIT thats right cybermonday
05:04 PM Rab: roycroft, fine work.
05:04 PM _unreal_: So wher eare these black monday deals?
05:04 PM Tom_L: was black friday more grey than black this year?
05:04 PM roycroft: i don't know
05:05 PM roycroft: i also tuned out the news over the weekend
05:05 PM _unreal_: I'm looking for a ball bearing puller
05:05 PM roycroft: i was busy in my shop actually getting things done :)
05:05 PM * roycroft had a very pleasant weekend
05:05 PM _unreal_: heh... I couldnt get away from my father all weekend
05:06 PM roycroft: is he as bad as your drunk uncle?
05:06 PM Rab: Tom_L, black vs red, so maybe burgundy?
05:07 PM _unreal_: my drunk uncle is a blast...
05:08 PM _unreal_: though I dont have a drunk uncle in this state...
05:08 PM Tom_L: you party together
05:08 PM _unreal_: hehe my father also purchased an air hockey table "for""" my daughter for him self.
05:08 PM _unreal_: he said we need to put it together. I said ok? and then he siad we will put it right back into the box. I was like BS
05:09 PM _unreal_: sure enough. 3 hours later. he said ya NF'ING wya we are going to put it back in the shipping box.
05:50 PM jthornton: wow my backside has some amazing black and blue colors...
05:50 PM jdh: did you pay extra for that?
05:51 PM jthornton: it was free and unstoppable lol
05:51 PM jthornton: could not get my foot out of the strap fast enough to stop my fall into the creek
05:52 PM jdh: strap?
05:54 PM jthornton: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/empire-pedal-w--clips---straps-9-16-axle
05:54 PM jthornton: similar to mine
05:54 PM jthornton: those do look better than mine...
05:57 PM jdh: ouch. water cold?
05:58 PM jthornton: yea and it was 50°F Wednesday and I was 4 miles from the trail head
05:58 PM jdh: get some cheap clipless mtb pedals/shoes
05:58 PM jthornton: I've thought about that more than once, are they easier to get out of?
05:59 PM jdh: they are trivial for the most part.
05:59 PM jdh: but, sometimes you fall.
05:59 PM jthornton: the straps actually suck a bit
06:00 PM jthornton: I try not to at my age it takes forever to heal lol
06:00 PM jdh: yeah. if they are tight enough to do much good, they are too tight
06:01 PM jthornton: it's a bad spot even when it's dry creek then a steep bank and up a rocky hill
06:02 PM jdh: I got rid of my mtb. no skills.
06:02 PM jdh: and the recovery due-to-age thing
06:03 PM jthornton: yea, it's a nice place to ride close to the house except for a couple of places
06:03 PM jthornton: and winter time is a good time to ride with no spyder webs to eat
06:04 PM jthornton: I like the quiet of riding out there
06:04 PM jthornton: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recreation/recarea/?recid=81911&actid=62
06:05 PM jthornton: hmm the map doesn't show all the trails lol
06:08 PM jdh: only roads around here. some nice gravel/dirt in the public gamelands 20ish miles away.
06:08 PM jthornton: yea I wouldn't even have a mtb if we didn't have Wolf Creek nearby
06:09 PM jthornton: gravel sucks lol
06:09 PM jdh: I like it. enough to ride 20-25 miles to a 30 mile gravel ride.
06:10 PM jthornton: if it's packed down it's ok... I usually ride 12-15 miles on the trails as there is a lot of elevation change
08:57 PM _unreal_: jthornton, pictures?
08:57 PM _unreal_: nothing says ouch like a good photo
08:57 PM _unreal_: TRUST ME i know
