12:36 AM Deejay: moin
12:48 AM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K88pgWhEb1M
12:50 AM net|: icsp ?
12:50 AM net|: arduino programmer is already built in
01:02 AM flyback: no
01:02 AM flyback: he's using arduino to program nor parallel bus rom chips
01:03 AM flyback: I made a programmer out of a old cdrw drive
01:03 AM flyback: abusing "firmware recovery mode"
01:03 AM flyback: I can do up to 512KB in +5 or +3.3 chips
02:23 AM Loetmichel: mornin'. Ahhh, No better sound early at work as when the coffemaker is done... $me is waling thru the company with a coffe mug in hand, slikking little bits of coffee everywhere .-)
05:00 AM Loetmichel: *GNAH* i HATE it when boss sells stuff to the customer thats not existing... 2 computers systems with specific dell 19" Displays and DVI... problem is: those displays only have VGA in... just spent two hours to tinker two "universal" dvi->lvds converters in there... measuring which pin goes where, making new adapters etc... and the two Monitors dont even have the same electronics or panels
05:00 AM Loetmichel: in.... :-( -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=15657&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
05:05 AM Tom_L: morning
05:19 AM Tom_L: Loetmichel, he knows you love a challenge
05:23 AM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel: fine - as ong as they charge appropriatey for it.
05:27 AM Loetmichel: probably not, as i said: boss sold something that doesent exist
06:33 AM jthornton: morning
06:34 AM XXCoder: yo
06:35 AM jthornton: damn did I sleep in or what
06:35 AM XXCoder: i plan to sleep in too lol
06:41 AM jthornton: I looked at the clock and it was 5am so I thought I'll get up in a few minutes lol
06:44 AM XXCoder: your body knew better I guess lol
07:06 AM jthornton: did you see this yesterday https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3742236
07:07 AM XXCoder: nope
07:07 AM XXCoder: interestbg
07:07 AM Loetmichel: jthornton: isnt that a wee bit overdoing it? considering that the bed is usally only 4mm alu and weak as hell anyways?
07:07 AM XXCoder: definitely bvetter design than one I made lol
07:08 AM XXCoder: Loetmichel: way faster than paper
07:08 AM * Loetmichel uses a valve shims fan .-)
07:10 AM jthornton: well as you can see he used some paper shims to level the glass bed
07:21 AM jthornton: what is a valve shims fan?
07:21 AM XXCoder: wild guess, that standard fan of feeler gages
07:22 AM jthornton: that's what I'm thinking a feeler gauge
07:34 AM beachbumpete1: I made something very similar to that for my Tronxy X5S I think I have used it like twice so far ;)
07:45 AM Loetmichel: feeler gauge fan
07:45 AM Loetmichel: sorry
07:45 AM Loetmichel: in german its "ventilfächer"
07:45 AM Loetmichel: because its used to adjust valve play
07:47 AM Loetmichel: https://www.louis.de/artikel/fuehlerlehre-20-blatt-0-05-1-0-mm/10003927, ah, i see they are called "feeler gauge" here, too
08:35 AM _unreal_: yawn
09:17 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest33475
09:18 AM Loetmichel: uuups... boss just came down.. with the power bill in hand. last years: around 25MWh every year. This year 44MWh... WTF? we didnt get any machinery that pulls 3kW conntinous 24/7... cant imagine what that is for...?!?
09:20 AM Rab: Loetmichel, your power bill is yearly?
09:21 AM Loetmichel: yes, the BILL is yearly
09:21 AM Loetmichel: usually the company pays monthly though, and end of the year the payment for the next 12 months is fixed based on real usage
09:22 AM Rab: So could a period of unusually heavy power use have weighted the bill for subsequent months?
09:23 AM Loetmichel: Rab: heating is natural gas
09:23 AM Rab: Remodeling or new construction, flood pumps/drying fans running 24/7, etc?
09:24 AM Loetmichel: company. no new big machinery, no new PCs, nothing
09:25 AM Rab: Loetmichel, does your power company do real-time consumption tracking? Some utilities here will offer at least a daily graph.
09:25 AM Loetmichel: Rab: mecanical meters
09:25 AM Loetmichel: so no
09:26 AM Rab: If not, maybe it's time to install some kind of tracking on the customer side. If nothing else, to verify that you're being billed properly. It could be an accounting error.
09:27 AM Loetmichel: thats easily verified
09:28 AM Rab: Why be satisfied with easy? Make a project out of it! https://www.mkompf.com/cplus/emeocv.html
09:29 AM Loetmichel: just asked the boss: he verified that the bill and the meter readings are identical
09:33 AM BitEvil_ is now known as SpeedEvi
09:42 AM _unreal_: Loetmichel, I bet there are read errors
09:43 AM _unreal_: Loetmichel, is there a hot water heater in the building?
09:43 AM _unreal_: or has there been any work on anything electrical with the building been done? THAT WOULD include a hot water tank
09:43 AM _unreal_: if it was wired wrong it can short and draw high current
09:45 AM Loetmichel: _unreal_: gas heating and warm water
09:47 AM Loetmichel: problem is: the company isnt THAT big. ~3kW continous heat wouldnt go unnoticed
09:49 AM _unreal_: time to power meter everything :)
09:49 AM _unreal_: something could be failing
09:49 AM _unreal_: its ether hardware or meter reading failure
09:49 AM Loetmichel: that would still mean something gets hot
09:49 AM Loetmichel: i would say meter failure
09:53 AM _unreal_: I had a water tank that was giving crazy high bills
09:53 AM _unreal_: come to find out the moron who installed it wired it worng
09:53 AM _unreal_: it was shorting and never made heat, nor popped breakers
09:54 AM _unreal_: it was causing $300/mo elec bill
09:54 AM _unreal_: when it should have been $50
10:06 AM jymmmm: YAY for power outage in 31F weather... a xfmr blew
10:13 AM * Loetmichel is suspeckting the ~120 58W flourexcents here in the shop
10:14 AM gregcnc: which this year decided to draw more current?
10:18 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: your bulbs are the cause of my power outage?!
10:19 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: No, same current, just half the light output :D
10:19 AM gregcnc: maybe somebody forgot to turn them off at night, all year
10:20 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: ...or forgot to turn them on...at all
10:20 AM gregcnc: maybe
10:20 AM gregcnc: lol
10:21 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: I blame Loetmichel :)
10:24 AM gregcnc: https://imgur.com/gallery/Qzrt6kc
10:26 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: more workers this year-> more lines of lights on
10:26 AM Loetmichel: Probably
10:27 AM gregcnc: also means more A/C
10:27 AM Loetmichel: jymmmm: no, the cause of the 19MWh more power usage this year
10:27 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: germany.
10:27 AM Loetmichel: no AC in the company (other than the measurement chamber that is)
10:28 AM gregcnc: really? wasn't it 40°C this year for a time?
10:28 AM Loetmichel: it was
10:28 AM Loetmichel: but the company simply has no a/c units installed
10:28 AM Loetmichel: only room that has a SMALL a/c unit is the measurement chamber
10:29 AM gregcnc: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5MZwwep_zz/
10:31 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: and i would totally buy that "weed idea", would i be rich enough :-)
10:53 AM jymmmm: Loetmichel: The lights on the pot farm you started last year of course
12:04 PM CaptHindsight: was just watching, was surprised by the lack of precision
12:04 PM CaptHindsight: in an episode of This Old House
12:05 PM CaptHindsight: even refurbing a pool table, not even close to a suface plate :)
12:05 PM jymmmm: +/- 20 feet is close enough
12:05 PM CaptHindsight: non cnc wood lathe to make a ball
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: hand held drill guide and jig
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: didn't ebven use a clamp
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: I did spot DIN rails used for a closet system
12:11 PM CaptHindsight: I see a contracting opportunity for compulsive obsessives
12:11 PM CaptHindsight: making homes that are truly plumb and square
12:12 PM CaptHindsight: accounts for loads and thermal changes
12:15 PM roycroft: if you want homes that are truly plumb and square, you willl need to prep the footing trenches with a big hammer, pour the foundation, let it sit for a couple decades, and then build on top of that
12:16 PM roycroft: and if you want the house to remain plumb and square, you'll need to build it out of reinforced concrete, not wood or metal studs/joists :)
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: nah, hydraulic leveling
12:16 PM roycroft: yeah, you could set up an auto-leveling system if you don't want the 20 year span between foundation and finished building
12:17 PM CaptHindsight: wealthy compulsive obsessives
12:19 PM drdoc: CaptHindsight: in residential construction 1/4" is literally close enough
12:20 PM drdoc: I worked on a framing crew in the late '70s and then on a remodel crew in the early '90s
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: Norm Abram looks the same
12:21 PM drdoc: bear in mind that I grew up doing fab & layout in welding shops
12:21 PM drdoc: so to me, 1/32" is close enough
12:21 PM drdoc: my foreman on the remodeling crew used to yell at me for that
12:22 PM drdoc: "Goddammit Doc! We're not building a fucking Swiss Watch!"
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: well contractors know everything, just ask one
12:22 PM drdoc: hell yes
12:24 PM drdoc: In Lubbock TX, where I framed houses, humidity runs ~20% during the day most of the year
12:25 PM drdoc: in the time it took to assemble the frame. plumb it, deck it and sheath it, a 20-foot prebuilt truss might shrink a half inch
12:25 PM sync: or you load sand in the opposite corner of your cellar when the house leans
12:25 PM sync: a friend of mine has to do that
12:26 PM drdoc: CaptHindsight: the gist of it is that there's just no benefit to the kind of precision you and I want
12:26 PM CaptHindsight: I don't care
12:27 PM drdoc: I know
12:27 PM CaptHindsight: benefit is in the eye of the beholder
12:27 PM drdoc: I worked on one house, ever, where we got to really do it well.
12:28 PM CaptHindsight: contracting is very serious, just ask them
12:28 PM drdoc: an old couple sold most of their farm and used the proceeds to build their dream house
12:29 PM drdoc: fir, no pine, throughout, with 2x6 inside walls and 2x8 load-bearing walls
12:29 PM drdoc: 1" decking on the roof
12:29 PM Rab: I built myself a set of kitchen cabinets once, after some serious consternation while measuring at the start I committed to just following all the crazy angles when cutting the cabinet pieces. That area was at least 3/4" off square.
12:30 PM drdoc: it was beautiful
12:30 PM drdoc: and about 2 days before we finished up a tornado leveled it
12:32 PM drdoc: We got there about 7:30 that morning to finish the deck, the insurance adjuster was already there.
12:33 PM drdoc: told my boss "order what you need, get delivered today what you need this week. This ain't right."
12:35 PM drdoc: Rab: the cabinets in our kitchen are at least 3˙ off level
12:35 PM CaptHindsight: never build a house where a tornado is going to hit
12:35 PM drdoc: CaptHindsight: west texas would be deserted
12:36 PM Rab: It's not? ;P
12:36 PM drdoc: it's not
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: and the problem with that is?
12:37 PM drdoc: Fun Fact: The county where I grew up is one of the most altered ecologies on the planet
12:37 PM Rab: CaptHindsight, lots of agriculture and infrastructure to maintain.
12:37 PM Rab: Railroads, huge wind farms.
12:37 PM drdoc: 98% of both plants an wildlife in Lubbock County are non-native
12:38 PM drdoc: Huuuuge wind farms
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: automation
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: one place that could use it
12:38 PM drdoc: I miss West Texas
12:39 PM CaptHindsight: with Central and Southern Americans to run it
12:39 PM drdoc: I loved working evening tour on July 4 and New Years
12:40 PM drdoc: coming home the atmospheric refraction would make fireworks visible from 25-30 miles away
12:40 PM drdoc: and west TX and eastern NM are flat enough for that to work
12:55 PM Loetmichel: harhar, you know you failed miserably when the News guy in the radio says "In other news: eighth try to set an opening/finishing date for BER: 31.0ct.2020... personally: i wouldnt bet on it!"
01:00 PM CaptHindsight: it's just more drama
01:02 PM Loetmichel: point was that the NEWS guy commented on a news line. thats mostly unheard of here in germany in the radio
01:03 PM Loetmichel: usually there is s strickt distinction here between news and comments
01:04 PM CaptHindsight: welcome to the new news
01:05 PM CaptHindsight: we have entire networks here dedicated to commentary with "some" news
01:07 PM CaptHindsight: replace news and facts with commentary, eventually the facts no longer matter to many
01:08 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: usually the comments may come from the same radio commentator, that announces the news, but NOT at full/half hour in the newsflash. there it is always neutral, just facts, no opinions
01:08 PM Loetmichel: if the radio guy slipped and said something opinionated its REALLY bad.
01:09 PM CaptHindsight: testing the waters
01:09 PM Loetmichel: Both for the radio guy and the item in question. ;)
01:10 PM Loetmichel: i mean: the BER airport is 9 years overdue, 13 years in total, and close to TEN times over budged
01:10 PM CaptHindsight: who owns the network/station?
01:10 PM Loetmichel: budget.
01:10 PM Loetmichel: State
01:13 PM CaptHindsight: so a real problem if it becomes a pattern
01:14 PM Loetmichel: yes, he will probably get a stern "talking to" by his boss tonight
01:15 PM Loetmichel: the radio news guy i mean
04:09 PM Deejay: gn8
06:47 PM SpeedEvi: Today I learned there are iron-based Oilites.
