01:51 AM Deejay: moin
05:00 AM jthornton: morning
05:01 AM Tom_L: morning
05:24 AM Tom_L: jthornton, what language do you use to program those PAL? chips you program?
05:24 AM jthornton: PAL chips?
05:24 AM Tom_L: what are all the cables you have for?
05:24 AM Tom_L: those
05:24 AM jthornton: where?
05:26 AM Tom_L: didn't know if they would be anything similar or not
06:57 AM Loetmichel: *ahhh* what a relief. Note: some things are much easier with an empty bladder... trying to solder 0,5mm pitch FFC SMT connectors with a full bladder is making it harder for yourself than necceessary ;)
08:56 AM JT-Shop: it's just so amazing how crappy stamps.com software is
09:05 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.gnome.org/news/2019/10/gnome-files-defense-against-patent-troll/
09:06 AM CaptHindsight: "Even if you are not using the GNOME desktop, if you are using LinuxCNC you are using Gnome software. (GTK, for one)"
09:07 AM CaptHindsight: I somehow missed this news last month
10:16 AM Elmo40: who is claiming patent?
10:24 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: AGAIN?
10:58 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: back in late September or there abouts
10:58 AM CaptHindsight: Elmo40: Rothschild Patent Imaging, LLC
10:59 AM CaptHindsight: "GNOME was hit by a patent troll for developing the Shotwell image management application"
10:59 AM CaptHindsight: Elmo40: https://www.zdnet.com/article/gnome-sends-message-to-patent-trolls-and-files-defence-against-lawsuit/
11:02 AM CaptHindsight: https://sourceforge.net/p/emc/mailman/message/36860849/ OpenCN, a new fork of LinuxCNC --> Precalculations
11:05 AM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: the USPS site is bad enough for me, I didn't even want to try stamps.com after hearing all the bad reviews
11:31 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: ah.
11:31 AM Loetmichel: thought a recent thing
11:31 AM Loetmichel: thats why i asked if its AGAIN
11:37 AM Loetmichel: re at home. MAAAN did they drink and drive today? The usual 10 minute 1 mile traffic jam at the highway exit. TWO(!) people drove by on the right lane of the highway to the end of the exit and forced their way into the que, one even drove on the shoulder/emergency lane on the right (with about 60mph) to the exit and forced his way in the que from the right. :-(
11:47 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: we call that "just another day" here :)
11:47 AM CaptHindsight: it's pretty common here in cities
11:48 AM conmega: People caught doing that should get their licenses revoked and never get it back...
11:48 AM CaptHindsight: you might get honked at for driving that way in the country
11:48 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: it is NOT common in germany
11:48 AM Loetmichel: conmega: the shoulder driver WOULD get his license revoked if he got caught in germany
11:49 AM conmega: Yea German laws are better than the US's stuff
11:49 AM conmega: here you'd get a massive ticket/fine so that you can pay it off then get caught doing it again so the police department can milk you for money until you cause a fatal accident
11:49 AM CaptHindsight: if they revoke your license here then you can't get revenue generating traffic tickets
11:49 AM conmega: ^
11:49 AM CaptHindsight: bad drivers are a resource here
11:50 AM CaptHindsight: the rulers here don't give 2 shits about your safety or inconvenience
11:51 AM CaptHindsight: speeding tickets and DUI's keep the police in their sports cars and SUV's
11:51 AM Elmo40: CaptHindsight, too true.
11:51 AM Elmo40: it is all an illusion that they 'care' for us... they only care for our income.
11:52 AM Elmo40: just look ho wmuch we are taxed! income tax. sales tax. death tax... ~80% of our income is gone to them.
11:54 AM Loetmichel: Elmo40: 80%? cant belive that
11:54 AM Elmo40: for what? not safe roads or healthy foods!
11:54 AM CaptHindsight: well that is your fault for not being elite and wealthy
11:55 AM Elmo40: Loetmichel, you need to look at it all. you will see what i mean.
11:55 AM Elmo40: CaptHindsight, yes. i know. my mistake... sorry. i'll do better in the next life!
11:55 AM Loetmichel: we have about direct income 50% taxation here in germany (actually 53%, including healtchare and unemployment insurance)
11:55 AM Loetmichel: of course we have the usual VAT and stuff thats not income based.
11:55 AM Loetmichel: but 80%? MAN that would suck
11:57 AM Elmo40: VAT is what, 19%?
11:57 AM CaptHindsight: you need to make more money so that you can be taxed less, shhesh don't you get it :)
11:57 AM Elmo40: it is a percentage. means you add it all up. that is now 70% gone...
11:57 AM Elmo40: powerball money
11:59 AM Elmo40: then property tax, gas/transportation tax, licensing fees... you end up with $0.10 at the end of the day
12:00 PM Loetmichel: Elmo40: VAT in germany is 19% unless its food or other "basic needs" then its 7%
12:00 PM Elmo40: fuel is a basic need
12:00 PM Loetmichel: nope
12:01 PM CaptHindsight: https://thismatter.com/money/tax/images/earned-income-effective-tax-rate-chart.png
12:01 PM Loetmichel: transportation is, and IIRC the bus tickets are indeed 7%
12:02 PM Elmo40: CaptHindsight, now then, with this chart you claim to earn less and you effectively get taxed less!
12:02 PM CaptHindsight: taxes assessed on working income ^^ not capital gains
12:02 PM Elmo40: under a certain amount and the gov't gives you money!
12:02 PM Elmo40: i still want the powerball income, though...
12:03 PM CaptHindsight: traffic fines and court here are a bit different
12:03 PM * Loetmichel has a monthly salary of 3050 eur... and gets 1604 eur booked on his account every month.
12:03 PM Loetmichel: thats bad enough ;)
12:04 PM CaptHindsight: you can usually get a lawyer to arrange for a fine to be paid and it not be a negative mark on your license
12:05 PM CaptHindsight: so speeding ticket, pay fine, no tickets for 30 days, no mark on your driving record
12:05 PM CaptHindsight: attorney fee and fine are usually about the same, so speeding ticket $250, lawyer fee $250
12:05 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight; in germany (actually all europe now i belive) we have fines and points
12:06 PM Loetmichel: for example: 21kph over the speed limit is 90 eur and 1 point
12:06 PM Loetmichel: if you reach 8 points your license gets revoked
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: we do as well but if you pay enough for the fine and fees there are no points on your record
12:06 PM Loetmichel: and those points dont get deleted for 3 years
12:07 PM Loetmichel: no, over here the points are mandatory
12:07 PM Loetmichel: not debateable
12:07 PM CaptHindsight: in Illinois it was 3 moving violations in 1 year and you get an automatic 90 day suspension
12:07 PM Loetmichel: you have to pay the fee AND get the point
12:07 PM Loetmichel: or two (for a red light for example
12:07 PM CaptHindsight: but if you have a traffic court lawyer this never happens
12:08 PM CaptHindsight: you had to drive through the wall of the courthouse or similar
12:08 PM Loetmichel: its pretty strict here
12:08 PM CaptHindsight: here they pretty much just want the $$
12:09 PM Elmo40: i think passing a school bus with lights out is 3points!
12:09 PM CaptHindsight: up in Wisconsin somebody recently got their license permanently suspended after 8 DUI's
12:09 PM Loetmichel: fines are low, but the only chance to get around the suspended license is to appeal to court and hope they belive you when you say "i need the license for my job, else i get fired"
12:10 PM CaptHindsight: DUI fines can easily be $5000
12:12 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: DUI results in an immediate license confiscation here
12:13 PM Loetmichel: and usually to get it back you have to do an "idiot test" a.k. psych. expertise by an MD if you are fit for driving
12:14 PM CaptHindsight: the trial lawyers here have a pretty strong lobby so they keep pretty busy
12:14 PM CaptHindsight: laws are purposely written to allow room for arguments in court
12:14 PM CaptHindsight: = lawyer fees
12:15 PM CaptHindsight: your laws are written to avoid frivolous suits
12:15 PM Loetmichel: indeed
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: what I've learned though my travels around the globe is that each country as trade-offs
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: they get some things right and some things wrong
12:17 PM CaptHindsight: what they get right or wrong varies from country to country
12:17 PM CaptHindsight: I'm still waiting to visit the one that get everything right
12:18 PM CaptHindsight: we could have German type traffic laws and courts here, but we don't want that
12:19 PM CaptHindsight: we could have had universal health care decades ago like most of the world, but we don't want that
12:19 PM CaptHindsight: we want double standards
12:19 PM Loetmichel: i suppose they only work with german citizens well (as in german culture and average behaviour)
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: culture is engineered, it's not by accident
12:20 PM Centreline: today in post, new cpu arrived for bridgeport linuxcnc computer + more ram, to finally nail the latency issues. Swapped from athlon 1800+ mobile to athlon 1800 desktop, 2gb ram, and reran latency check and... 67500ns max jitter on the servo thread.. ...
12:20 PM Loetmichel: to me it looks more like your rich have found ways to see to it that poor stays poor and rich stays rich.
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: yes, it's good to be the king
12:20 PM Centreline: happily a mesa 5i25 superport has also arrived...
12:21 PM CaptHindsight: Centreline: is all power management turned off in the BIOS settings?
12:21 PM CaptHindsight: virtualization should be off as well
12:21 PM Centreline: yes, its some crappy shuttle media pc I got given years ago and everything is disabled in the bios
12:21 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: i meant: the traffic laws in germany are a lot less harsh because most germans ( with some exeptions) dont like tickets at all, even if the fine is more symolic than a real pain
12:21 PM Loetmichel: they drive USUALLY pretty disciplined anyways
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: 67500ns is fine for servo thread and 5i25
12:22 PM Centreline: its got mb thats smaller than micro atx so I can't swap it out easy, and it fits the space in the machine cabinet now :(
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: we let just about any idiot on the road
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: it doesn't effect the wealthy much
12:22 PM Centreline: yes, thats my secret weapon, I've been using a lavabit dual parport card until now...
12:24 PM Centreline: now just to work out if making a custom mesa is easier, or rewiring the chinese bob's to one that's already done
12:26 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: this video played right after the one you posted the other day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6n_SC5xgeA
12:26 PM Centreline: here there are automated traffic cameras everywhere, and you get a ticket + fine/points on license for 113km/h in a 110km/h limit
12:27 PM Centreline: german vehicle laws scare me though, everything needing official TUV approval
12:27 PM Centreline: no TUV paperwork on a aftermarket part and the car can be impounded
12:28 PM Centreline: In France the rules are simpler, "no modifications"
12:29 PM Centreline: so you can't fit alloy wheels to a car that's listed in the record book as having steel wheels, or fit better brakes, or tyres of a different profile etc.
12:29 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: not impounded. just devalidated for traffic
12:30 PM Loetmichel: i.E: they dont take it away, you just no longer allowed to drive it
12:30 PM Centreline: well in France they take the vehicle and seize/destroy it
12:30 PM Loetmichel: yes, in france
12:30 PM Loetmichel: not in germany though
12:30 PM Centreline: I thought they did that in Germany too
12:30 PM Loetmichel: nope
12:31 PM Loetmichel: they may seize it if its part in a crime investigation, but they have to give it back after the investigation is complete
12:32 PM Centreline: you can have your vehicle seized/crushed for excessive speed here (France)
12:32 PM Loetmichel: so i heard
12:33 PM Centreline: When I moved here 20 years ago, it was a really nice place, unspoilt roads, not much traffic, everyone left us alone. It seems of late to have got very anti car/motorcycle
12:33 PM CaptHindsight: what do the French have against car modifications?
12:33 PM Centreline: if I didn't have children, I probably would move country again.
12:33 PM CaptHindsight: wondering what the history is there
12:34 PM Centreline: They used to allow it, but in 2006 they removed the certifications for individual builds and small builders and never replaced them
12:34 PM Loetmichel: seems familiar
12:34 PM Centreline: the only exemptions now are for classic cars, and they are policed by the classic car gov body, who specify 0 modifications
12:35 PM Centreline: classic car clubs the world over would like to force every car to be 100% original if they could...
12:35 PM CaptHindsight: Centreline: what is the "reason" they claim this for? safety?
12:35 PM Loetmichel: <- recently asked the local "TÜV" what i have to bring to get a petrol_> electro conversion street legal.
12:35 PM Centreline: yes safety is the club used, "dangerous modifications", ie everything not crash tested to destruction and put through the whole euro ncap safety testing regime
12:36 PM Loetmichel: answer: "just an EMI cert for EVERY part you use, one for the whole car and then about as many tries to get the stamp here as it takes for you to run out of money"
12:36 PM Centreline: Peugeot and Renault basically wrote hte regs to suit themselves
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: ok
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: that makes more sense
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: corruption
12:36 PM Loetmichel: the latter the engineer said quietly though
12:36 PM Centreline: Yeah, I have a kitcar registered in UK, and to import it here, I'd have to build three, and they would destroy two testing it to get it passed
12:37 PM CaptHindsight: that is also what varies from country to country, the type of guberment corruption
12:37 PM Centreline: and I have a motorcycle that was sold in France, but they won't allow me to import myself as it has too much power
12:37 PM Centreline: even though the french importer sold the 150hp model the same
12:37 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: its actually the heads of the HESSEN TÜV in my case
12:38 PM Loetmichel: same engineer said: "go to the DEKRA somewhere in bavaria instead. we have order to NOT let ANY conversion pass!"
12:38 PM Centreline: heh Dekra...
12:38 PM Centreline: they run almost all the test stations here
12:38 PM Centreline: and they're always lobbying for more strict rules on everything
12:39 PM Loetmichel: ah, TÜV/DEKRA are two companys/clubs that have the right to certify your car "road legal" in germany
12:39 PM Centreline: here they run the inspection centres as private company
12:39 PM Loetmichel: we have a mandatory road leagal test every two years
12:39 PM Loetmichel: (for our american friends)
12:40 PM Centreline: every year here for commercial vans + diesel emissions on everything every year
12:40 PM Centreline: every two for private cars
12:40 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: yeah. TÜV is a club/non-profit company, DEKRA is a normal company iirc
12:41 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: correct. 2 years for private cars, 1 year for trucks and commercial vehicles
12:41 PM Centreline: my landrover has no windows in the rear, hence its a "commercial" under their rules, which is extra un fun as its 29 years old
12:42 PM CaptHindsight: my land Cruiser turned 25, now it's an antique
12:42 PM Centreline: 1 more year and it becomes "classic", so inspection every 5 years (whoopie)
12:42 PM CaptHindsight: no inspections here for pre 1995
12:43 PM Centreline: I'm always envious of friends in the states, some don't seem to have any inspection or requirements at all
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: away from the cities
12:44 PM Centreline: though I have seen some downright dangerous vehicles on the road there when visiting, so I guess its double edged swaord
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: smog testing in most larger cities, safety in some states
12:44 PM Centreline: we were in washington and there were unibody panel vans towing the food caravans in with no rocker panels left from corrosion...
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: oh yeah, you can see into the trunks of some cars on the road, rust holes as big as your head
12:46 PM Centreline: the UK doesn't have bad laws in comparison, they have annual inspection under 30 years old, and a specialist scheme to register homebuilt cars, and a scheme for modified vehicles where you can keep the original identity if you retain a certain number of parts from the original
12:46 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/SbR6Z.jpg not uncommon, like in China
12:48 PM Loetmichel: whats a rocker panel?
12:48 PM CaptHindsight: the outside beams under the doors
12:49 PM Loetmichel: ah, "trittbrett"?
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.millsupply.com/pics/m/1999-2018-chevrolet-pickup-silverado-34-door-extended-cab-inner-rocker-panel-left-side-509948l_a.jpg
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/M-4Ub1Xbd30/maxresdefault.jpg
12:49 PM Loetmichel: ah, that
12:50 PM Loetmichel: not good if that fails on a car that has a unibody and no ladder frame
12:50 PM Loetmichel: an uncle of mine used to collect/modify renault R4 and R6
12:51 PM Loetmichel: he even made some convertibles out of them
12:51 PM Loetmichel: the first he ground the roof off folded right in the middle when he opened the door
12:51 PM Loetmichel: so he welded some 2"*2" steel tube to the rocker panels of the next one ;)
12:52 PM Loetmichel: BEFORE cutting off the roof ;)
12:54 PM CaptHindsight: why convertibles weight more than hard tops
12:54 PM Centreline: there's a famous tale where a french guy had a 2cv in the desert in morroco, and it broke a wheel bearing or something bad, so he built a trike of what was left to ride out to safety, and the gendarmes arrested him when he made it out into french territory for a modified vehicle
12:54 PM CaptHindsight: heh
12:54 PM Loetmichel: he broke an axle
12:55 PM Loetmichel: i know that story ;)
12:55 PM CaptHindsight: anything but modified cars , got it
12:55 PM Loetmichel: and he built a motorbike
12:55 PM Centreline: emile leray
12:56 PM Centreline: modified motorcycles too, soon :)
12:56 PM Centreline: there's no inspection for motorcycles, yet, but Dekra are campaigning for it hard
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: new cars bother me with all the warning buzzers and tracking
12:58 PM CaptHindsight: we tried to turn off the microphone in a rental cars and it called 911 (police)
12:58 PM Centreline: OnStar, and all the others have been at it for years
12:58 PM CaptHindsight: gave us a few seconds to turn it back on
12:59 PM Centreline: here they have to have a cellular modem now by law, because all new cars sold by a certain date have to have a emergency call button inside
12:59 PM CaptHindsight: i used to only drive 1973 and earlier
12:59 PM CaptHindsight: now I'm up to 94
12:59 PM CaptHindsight: and track you
01:00 PM CaptHindsight: paranoid culture
01:00 PM * Loetmichel would like to have an 1969 F150
01:00 PM Loetmichel: or F100
01:00 PM CaptHindsight: out motto was "land of the free and home of the brave"
01:00 PM Centreline: 1956 f100 please
01:00 PM Loetmichel: but those are pretty expensive here in germany
01:00 PM CaptHindsight: not so much anymore
01:01 PM Centreline: the eCall system claims to be dormant unless something like the airbag has fired
01:01 PM CaptHindsight: Centreline: https://imgur.com/evTawLz was my 64
01:02 PM Centreline: that's nice
01:05 PM Centreline: this is my current funkiest vehicle which totally confuses the authorities :- http://gallery.pipandphil.com/Vehicles/album09/Land%20Rover%20101FC/front_obscured_001.jpg
01:06 PM Centreline: but at the moment its in a garage here waiting to have the cab rebuilt, after a incident involving a telegraph pole and a roadside ditch...
01:06 PM jymmmm: confuses them how?
01:07 PM Centreline: because they can never find the 101fc in their little vehicle listings to know if its been modified or not :D
01:08 PM Centreline: but the FFVE have type approved this as a genuine original classic truck (as its not modified at all)
01:08 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: is that a steyr?
01:09 PM Centreline: No, its a land rover 101fc, military only forward control with a factory v8 etc
01:09 PM jymmmm: Modified how?
01:09 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/a/FFaSDu1
01:09 PM Centreline: say I took the twin su carburettors off, and replaced them with a holley 4 barrel, that would be illegal here for example
01:10 PM Centreline: or fitted eletronic ignition in place of points
01:10 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: You shold toss on some slicks and hit the drag race
01:10 PM Centreline: because it would no longer conform to the type listed in the ledger of vehicle types they maintain
01:10 PM jymmmm: ah
01:12 PM Centreline: except, there is no record of these in the ledger to know what was original (ok, if I went efi, they'd know as its a 1977 truck)
01:12 PM Centreline: and pre 1960, there are no records at all...
01:37 PM Centreline: On a different topic, has anyone here skated a machine onto a recovery wagon?
01:41 PM CaptHindsight: I use tilt bed pickups
01:41 PM CaptHindsight: often without skates
01:41 PM CaptHindsight: winch it up, slide it down
01:42 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/ey5VtXu only on two skates, I moved it with a walk behind fork lift
01:45 PM Centreline: We're hiring this https://www.bergerlocation.fr/images/article/vignette/original/plateau-porte-voitures-12t-840.jpg
01:45 PM Centreline: and I have some machine skates, and it has a recovery winch, so I hope I can just winch the machine up on the bed like that on the skates
01:45 PM CaptHindsight: about $125/hr here
01:46 PM Centreline: no forklift or lifting equipment available on the pickup address
01:46 PM CaptHindsight: how big is the machine?
01:46 PM CaptHindsight: last time i moved the Matsuura we didn't use a forklift
01:46 PM Centreline: 4,300kg or 9500lbs in old money
01:46 PM CaptHindsight: just the tiltbed and winch
01:47 PM miss0r: goodevening
01:47 PM Centreline: we have to drive 8hrs in the vehicle first, so its a long way to go to find out I forgot some nuance...
01:47 PM CaptHindsight: Centreline: should be no problem, I also bring 30mm dia steel rods to use as rollers
01:48 PM CaptHindsight: how close can the back of the truck get to the machine?
01:48 PM Tom_L: if it's inside, make sure there is door clearance before you load it
01:49 PM CaptHindsight: last time going off it got stuck a few inches from 100% off, so the driver started shaking the bed and it slid off
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: or bring required chainsaw or demolition equipment :)
01:50 PM Centreline: we have to measure up on arrival, I just have photo's of where its stored (metal clad industrial building)
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: what kind of floors?
01:50 PM Centreline: that already has a big dent in the panel above the door opening :)
01:50 PM Centreline: concrete with a concrete loading pad outside, so I hope its good to just skate being pulled by the recovery winch
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: our old shop had a hard slick surface, i could mop the floor with soap and slide that Matsuura around almost by hand
01:51 PM miss0r: small heart attack: I just tucked the smallest one in and fell asleep in the process. The wife woke me up asking if I didn't have to get to work. Me looking at the wrist watch seeing that is is 8:15 and has a small panic, as I had a meeting with a new potential client at 07:30
01:51 PM miss0r: but that is tomorrow morning.
01:52 PM miss0r: I still have work to do now, sure. but that can just stretch a bit into the night without problems :)
01:52 PM CaptHindsight: i hate being so tired or jet lagged that you don't know day from night
01:52 PM miss0r: yeah
01:52 PM miss0r: well, being selfemployed and spend half of last week in bed with the flu will do that to you
01:52 PM CaptHindsight: back to work for me, missed lunch
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: almost 2pm here
01:53 PM miss0r: here it is quarter to nine in the evening :)
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: thanks for reminding me to get my flu shot
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: forgot last weekend
01:53 PM miss0r: you're welcome :)
01:55 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, just walk thru a grade school on a regular basis and you won't need one
01:55 PM Centreline: I always end up ill for two weeks after my flu shot
01:56 PM Centreline: but my wife always makes me have it, because she says its better than being hospitalized by the real thing...
01:57 PM CaptHindsight: the most i get is a sore arm
01:58 PM Centreline: it seems to actually give me a milder dose of the flu or a cold that lasts a few weeks
02:17 PM miss0r: I just fitted a 1/2" loc-line to the new CNC. I hope the pump on there is going to do a better job than the one the old cnc had.. It should 'on paper'... but I will soon find out I guess
03:55 PM XXCoder: jthornton: looks like its my turn this time lol bomb cyclone covering COW states
04:02 PM Deejay: gn8
04:17 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: Are you COW DUCKING?????? quack?
04:18 PM XXCoder: COW: calfornia, oregon and washington
04:19 PM Tom_L: hey now, i live in a Cow state
04:19 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: Say what? I haven't heard anything
04:19 PM * Tom_L flickers jymmmm's lights just to mess with him
04:20 PM jymmmm: Tom_L That's okey, gen ready to go. Not sure what XXCoder was talking about in regards to cyclons though
04:21 PM jymmmm: After all these years, my VOIP line is now dead, need to find an alterantive
04:29 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: SIP?
04:29 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: My SIP acnt is now dead, it was comp'ed
04:30 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: It appears that you can buy an obi device and use that with gVoice
04:30 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.callwithus.com/
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: use on Linux with asterrisk or freepbx
04:34 PM CaptHindsight: or https://www.linphone.org/
04:40 PM Centreline: /part #linuxcnc
04:41 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: I just talked to a friend, he's gonna grab me an obi device, YAY
05:25 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: linphone looks to be a voip CLIENT, not a SIP account
05:29 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, google voice?
05:29 PM jymmmm: Tom_L You don't know what it is?
05:30 PM Tom_L: i do
05:30 PM Tom_L: what voip?
05:30 PM Tom_L: dunno what SIP is no
05:30 PM jymmmm: Tom_L SIP is the "account info" to make a call of VoIP.
05:31 PM Tom_L: i moved a line i don't use much to google voice
05:31 PM jymmmm: the ONLY Voip device google voice supports is Obi.
05:31 PM Tom_L: and?
05:32 PM Tom_L: 911 gets pissed when i call em. my bud gave me their direct line to enter into obi :)
05:32 PM jymmmm: gVoice does NOT allow you to use a standard VoIP adapter to connect a regular phone to. ONLY the Obi device
05:32 PM jymmmm: you have an obi device already?
05:32 PM Tom_L: yessir
05:32 PM Tom_L: he had a spare
05:32 PM jymmmm: I don't (yet), a friend is getting me one.
05:33 PM jymmmm: he used to work for polycom
05:33 PM Tom_L: either i got a 2 line or he gave me his old one for a 2 line. either way it works
05:34 PM Tom_L: and it's not the old ones that don't work anymore
05:34 PM Tom_L: (not very techno on the topic)
05:34 PM jymmmm: Yeah, weill I've had a normal VoIP line for years, but the account is now closed.
05:34 PM Tom_L: i've had no issues with google
05:34 PM Tom_L: but i mainly use cell
05:34 PM jymmmm: so getting a obi device is the alternative
05:34 PM Tom_L: and it's free
05:35 PM jymmmm: I have a snow roof, so getting a cell call doesn't always connect, thus the VoIP line
05:35 PM Tom_L: https://voice.google.com/about
05:35 PM jymmmm: MY GVoice number rings multiple phones is what I'm saying
05:36 PM Tom_L: that's a problem?
05:36 PM jymmmm: 2 cells, voip line, and a landline, so it rings 4 numbers at the same time.
05:36 PM Tom_L: right
05:36 PM Tom_L: brb
05:36 PM jymmmm: k
05:38 PM Tom_L: i don't have mine set up that way but i do get notifications on my cell when it rings
05:38 PM jymmmm: Tom_L But between 5 day black outs, cell towers not being available, fiber cuts, pots line down, dsl lines down, or a combination of them, I'm trying to cover my bases as much as possible
05:38 PM Tom_L: i don't wanna call anybody anyhow!
05:38 PM jymmmm: lol
05:38 PM Tom_L: they typically just want something
05:39 PM jymmmm: your body
05:39 PM Tom_L: gawd help em
05:39 PM jymmmm: lol
05:40 PM jthornton: XXCoder, ??
05:43 PM Tom_L: so i was reading of the history of verilog a little to find out that Cadence purchased that company in 90. wondering if it's the same Cadence that owns the cnc company my kids owrk at
05:44 PM _unreal_: hi
05:44 PM Tom_L: they were the driving force to make it a public language
05:51 PM Tom_L: turns out i think they're one and the same
05:52 PM _unreal_: skunkworks, you around?
05:54 PM _unreal_: sigh
05:55 PM jthornton: Tom_L, you have more than one working there
05:55 PM Tom_L: 2
05:55 PM Tom_L: 22 & 18 yr old
05:56 PM jthornton: wow both interested in the same type of work
05:56 PM Tom_L: for now
05:56 PM Tom_L: funny, the younger one got hired first
05:57 PM Tom_L: and brought his brother on board a couple months later
05:57 PM Tom_L: he won that state skills competetion and they hired him on the spot
05:57 PM jthornton: the 18 yr old one?
05:57 PM Tom_L: went on to take 3rd in the nation
05:57 PM Tom_L: yes
05:58 PM Tom_L: the older one won state the prior year but was doing something else at the time
05:58 PM Tom_L: slightly different competetions but similar
05:59 PM _unreal_: I am in love with NCVIEW.COM
05:59 PM _unreal_: ncviewer.com
05:59 PM Tom_L: i wonder if it came from ncpolaris ncpreview
06:00 PM _unreal_: ?
06:00 PM Tom_L: ^^ was a 3rd party addon to acad for cnc
06:00 PM _unreal_: no idea but the visual is one of the best viewers I have seen
06:01 PM Tom_L: wasn't that popular but i knew a guy that was very good at it
06:01 PM jthornton: see you in the morning
06:01 PM * Tom_L checks the clock
06:02 PM Tom_L: later
06:03 PM * _unreal_ checks the beer
06:13 PM Elmo40: beer is gone!
06:57 PM * _unreal_ goes for an other one

07:09 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
07:34 PM gloops: aspire for a router
07:43 PM _unreal_: ?
07:48 PM gloops: vectric aspire
08:52 PM _unreal_: I am so damn lucky
08:52 PM _unreal_: I just got my two stuck and head snapped off bolts out of my new cnc machine base
08:53 PM _unreal_: that I'm building
08:53 PM _unreal_: no damage
08:53 PM Tom_L: how did they get snapped off in the first place?
08:53 PM _unreal_: I was tightening
08:53 PM _unreal_: threaded aluminum extrusion
08:53 PM _unreal_: in the ends
08:54 PM _unreal_: it got a little tight and i was like ok its done
08:54 PM _unreal_: we are talking hand tight to thats whats wierd
08:54 PM _unreal_: but both bolts BOUND because they ran out of thread
08:54 PM _unreal_: 5/16 bolts too....
08:54 PM _unreal_: so I heated the extrusion and grabbed the studs that were sticking out
08:55 PM _unreal_: with vice grips. one came out easy the other I REALLLLY had to fight it
08:55 PM _unreal_: but it made a ting sound as i was heating. and it popped free
08:56 PM _unreal_: I was like OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I just fucked my project up HARD
08:56 PM _unreal_: I think it was aluminum flakes that got out of place and bound in the threads of the bolts
08:56 PM _unreal_: I really didnt thread it in very hard
08:57 PM _unreal_: regardless OUT now
08:58 PM gloops: so you didnt tap deep enough
09:00 PM _unreal_: could be
09:00 PM _unreal_: but I didnt tighten it hard at all
09:00 PM _unreal_: there were chip particals that grabbed
10:05 PM Elmo40: always clean the hole before you screw it
10:05 PM Elmo40: ;-)
