01:41 AM SpeedEvil: On a sort-of-on-topic question - I am looking for a cargo strap spring type thing - ideally this would be something like a spring or rubber which has a known force when expanded 10cm say. (probably spring, given temperature) I am wanting this to be able to set tension on some wires in order to temporarily reinforce a wall.
01:48 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOUNTAIN-BIKE-DUAL-SUSPENSION-REAR-SPRING-SHOCK-150mm-750LBS/283322680585 hmm. (If I can invert it)
02:39 AM Loetmichel: *PHEW* just moved a 140kg Rittal 19" 36U cabinet onto the 40cm high table in the measurement chamber (over a 10cm step at the chambers entrance... THAT was quite the workout. Nice way to start a Tuesday workday :-)
03:28 AM Deejay: moin
04:47 AM jthornton: morning
04:48 AM XXCoder: sometimes work is like this https://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/external/UCPr2kXHHojwPYF-thczEgIW_Tf-cW1GQ5xoNzTFae0/https/giant.gfycat.com/BiodegradableDefensiveAiredale.mp4
04:48 AM XXCoder: very short video
04:49 AM jthornton: lol
04:50 AM XXCoder: it loops seamless lol
05:15 AM Tom_L: morning
05:17 AM XXCoder: owww https://i.imgur.com/5b1g0SH.gifv
08:42 AM jymmmm: Good morning
09:04 AM gregcnc: the 367th loop is different
09:05 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: How does one know they are in the Matrix?
09:06 AM gregcnc: only the woke ones know
09:10 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: But, if the 367th loop is different, wouldn't that be Deja Vu, then something in the matrix has changed?
09:11 AM gregcnc: gates or zuckerburg allowed it
09:14 AM jymmmm: LOL
10:15 AM jymmmm: gregcnc: And I believe BOTH have been before congress too :)
10:15 AM jymmmm: ...or some investigative commity
10:57 AM Rab: New product on Digi-Key: Kuka robot arms. https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight?f=875043159
11:04 AM SpeedEvil: That is just annoying, why don't they list a price for 100-1000
11:07 AM Rab: No lead time, either.
11:09 AM DaViruz: i see both prices and lead times
11:09 AM DaViruz: they even stock them
11:11 AM Rab: For Digi-Key, but only single qty pricing and no mfg leadtime for additional units. Unless you see different.
11:15 AM Rab: attn pink_vampire: https://thicthock.com/products/thic-thock-marshmallow-pre-order
11:16 AM DaViruz: Rab: same
11:17 AM DaViruz: oh now i see what price for 100-1000 means
12:09 PM CaptHindsight: might just be an Illinois thing but Goodwill does not take PC's anymore
12:12 PM Rab: huh
12:13 PM Rab: They're my favored destination for CRTs the e-waste places won't accept.
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: the website says they take them, the stored said NO
12:19 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: and you wont find wheelchairs or handicap stuff in the stores either, I think they resell them elsewhere
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: jymmmm: it must vary by area since I just saw handicap stuff there
12:20 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: Ah ok. I feign away from GW after crap I heard about them
12:22 PM jymmmm: motion sensor motor thingy
12:23 PM CaptHindsight: vampires?
12:23 PM CaptHindsight: heretics?
12:27 PM roycroft: the goodwills here in oregon still take computers
12:45 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: cats both 15 and 300 lbs ones
12:48 PM jymmmm: CaptHindsight: I already have two motion sensors, think I need to scavage the dollar store for tiny motors
12:49 PM jymmmm: I just hope they are sensative enough
12:53 PM Loetmichel: 300Lb cat, Jymmm? Mountain lion?
12:53 PM Tom_L: cat named bob
12:54 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: Yeah =)
12:55 PM Loetmichel: ah, a big lynx
12:55 PM Loetmichel: yeah, makes sense then
12:55 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: and bears, but right now, mostly 10 to 20 lb cats that are shitting and attacking the door, etc
12:55 PM Loetmichel: i doubt they are as playful as house cats though
12:56 PM Loetmichel: you are in the land of the "free"
12:56 PM Tom_L: they might like to play a bit right before they eat you
12:56 PM Loetmichel: so charge a few 12 gauge shells with rice and wait for them!
12:56 PM Loetmichel: the 15lb cats i mean
12:57 PM jymmmm: I'm trying non lethal, just want to scare the fuck out of them. Plus the whole animal crulty thing
12:58 PM jymmmm: I saw these "cat mats" with plastic spikes, but too big an area to cover and don't want the property to look like a DMZ
12:59 PM jymmmm: Hang on...
01:00 PM jymmmm: https://www.amazon.com/Anti-Cats-Network-Digging-Stopper-Repellent/dp/B01LGR2QIE
01:00 PM jymmmm: I can't figure out how to make those... I was thinking a big roll of weed wacker string
01:01 PM Loetmichel: thats why i said "rice instead of lead"
01:01 PM Loetmichel: because nonlethal
01:01 PM Loetmichel: shouldnt seriously injure them, unless point blank
01:01 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: I don't have any reloading gear anyway
01:01 PM Loetmichel: but will probably deter them
01:02 PM Loetmichel: from coming back EVER again
01:02 PM Loetmichel: ... not so much for a bear or bobcat though
01:03 PM jymmmm: I cna't even put out a humane trap, because we have skunks around here once in a whlle at night
01:04 PM jymmmm: and animal control will NOT take skunks, already asked
01:04 PM jymmmm: moton activated scare crom is kinda what I'm thinking
01:05 PM jymmmm: well, a spinning motor and a metal can to make all kinds of noise
01:07 PM Tom_L: motion sensor attached to a string of black cats
01:08 PM jymmmm: I have like 9 microwave xmfr's.....
01:09 PM jymmmm: Radar airsoft?
01:14 PM jymmmm: Loetmichel: rice blowgun maybe
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: https://sci-hub.tw/10.1016/j.addma.2017.06.007 An open-architecture metal powder bed fusion system for in-situc process measurements
01:32 PM SpeedEvil: ^400W fibre laser
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: SLS sintering up close https://youtu.be/fzBRYsiyxjI?t=413
01:36 PM CaptHindsight: powder gets blown away as it sinters and the molten metal drops leaving voids
01:36 PM CaptHindsight: how pores form
01:43 PM SpeedEvil: Is that under vacuum?
01:43 PM CaptHindsight: inert gas
03:56 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
04:23 PM skunkworks: how come I didn't know about 'the computer cronicles...'
04:23 PM skunkworks: It is hilarious watching them now...
04:26 PM skunkworks: finally a metal case.. only slightly modified.. http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/IMG_20191119_161842.jpg
04:34 PM Tom_L: green machine still running off a pi4?
04:35 PM pcw_mesa: I would be nice to have a passively cooled metal case (Case is heatsink)
04:48 PM _unreal_: sup
04:48 PM _unreal_: so this home machine will be interesting
04:48 PM _unreal_: ok sooo
04:48 PM _unreal_: any suggestions on a good source for cheap liner rails?
04:49 PM * Tom_L saw 'good' and 'cheap' and refrained
04:50 PM _unreal_: refrained?
04:50 PM mozmck: notice he didn't say the rails had to be good - just the source
04:51 PM Tom_L: i got mine off ebay
04:51 PM _unreal_: hum
04:51 PM Tom_L: chinaco quality
04:51 PM Tom_L: but it does what i need
04:51 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1_y-p3rXoyAva_URZ5QvpYhxcZx1bH6i9 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1adQweaGjSkkFvFvusslkvgVxxnET7f9l
04:51 PM Tom_L: i got a 'set' alot cheaper than individual pieces
04:51 PM _unreal_: 12" tiles
04:52 PM _unreal_: I need to get a set to sit on top of the extrusion
04:52 PM _unreal_: and a set to go across the X
04:52 PM _unreal_: I already have Y on the way
04:52 PM _unreal_: and I'm wondering if I got long enough one's? for Y
04:52 PM _unreal_: err Z
04:52 PM _unreal_: not y
04:52 PM Tom_L: no
04:52 PM Tom_L: you didn't
04:52 PM _unreal_: how long did I get
04:53 PM Tom_L: short
04:53 PM _unreal_: O,O
04:53 PM _unreal_: how about a number
04:53 PM Tom_L: looked like about 3-4" travel tops by the time it's assembled
04:53 PM _unreal_: work area for Z likely
04:53 PM _unreal_: the extrusion is 3" tall
04:54 PM _unreal_: the Y is not mounted
04:54 PM _unreal_: err Z
04:54 PM _unreal_: god me and y
04:54 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Square-Linear-Rail-400-700-1000mm-Ballscrew-1605-400-700-1000-BK-BF12-HGH20/143240984618?hash=item2159d3f82a:g:gT0AAOSwnCdcT79H
04:54 PM Tom_L: i got one similar to that
04:54 PM _unreal_: and I still need a waste board
04:55 PM _unreal_: I need to do twin lead screws
04:57 PM Tom_L: buy 2 sets of those ^^ :)
04:58 PM _unreal_: ya I'm not shelling $300
04:58 PM Tom_L: overall for 3 axis that's hard to beat
05:01 PM _unreal_: its likely wider then I need
05:06 PM jymmmm: scalpals are REALLY REALLY sharp :D
05:08 PM gregcnc: what's going on with this chuck? https://www.ebay.com/itm/362671438156
05:10 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: currently it is running pi
05:18 PM _unreal_: ARG... small child and project
05:18 PM _unreal_: school stuff
05:19 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I dont think I need an hgh that is 20mm wide
05:19 PM _unreal_: I could be worng but I feel that may be overkill for this small mill?
05:19 PM Deejay: gn8
05:27 PM _unreal_: ?
05:34 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder: the book is worth is just for chapter 17
05:37 PM _unreal_: think I may have to buy from ali express
05:37 PM skunkworks: pcw_mesa: wonder how passive this would be.. (without the fans)
05:38 PM skunkworks: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Artik-Raspberry-Pi-4-Case-RED-Cooling-Aluminum-Heatsink-Armor-Case-Include/174082431852?hash=item28881f1b6c:g:-yMAAOSwn0BduxtI
05:41 PM pcw_mesa: might be fairly decent though a taller case that covered the entire top might be better
05:45 PM pcw_mesa: Here's what looks like the same one without the fans
05:45 PM pcw_mesa: https://www.ebay.com/itm/for-GeeekPi-Raspberry-Pi-4-Model-B-Armor-Cover-Aluminium-Alloy-Heatsink-Case-New/254379139988?hash=item3b3a2da394:m:mhDgoraCiVaVnKO2SKntiNQ
05:50 PM skunkworks: pcw_mesa: that is what I was looking for - awesome
05:57 PM pcw_mesa: not sure if there's a US reseller of that one
05:57 PM Tom_L: gregcnc, they squeeze down just like a regular collet it appears
05:57 PM Tom_L: _unreal_ i wanted overkill on mine
05:58 PM Tom_L: but i don't feel that it was
06:16 PM skunkworks: pcw_mesa: usually they just take a bit longer to get here.. I have had pretty good luck recieving what I order
06:17 PM pcw_mesa: I may order one when I get around to testing my RPI4
06:18 PM skunkworks: after updating the rpi firmware and re-installing raspian with rt_preempt - it has been working well
06:18 PM skunkworks: Haven't had any wierd follwing errors
06:19 PM pcw_mesa: Huwei Spyware?
06:19 PM skunkworks: probably...
06:19 PM skunkworks: ;)
06:20 PM pcw_mesa: My SPI stuff seem to run reliably on the RPI3, need to try the 4
06:20 PM skunkworks: it is certainly fast enough. (the preview in axis is pretty zippy with even pretty large programs)
06:21 PM skunkworks: even running youtube videos (which caused delays before) don't know
06:21 PM Tom_L: your first try was with RTAI?
06:22 PM skunkworks: no.
06:22 PM Tom_L: what made the performance difference?
06:22 PM skunkworks: pcw_mesa: will the rpi3 do 1khz?
06:23 PM skunkworks: I have not tried 1khz with the pi4 since I redid it.
06:23 PM skunkworks: You do need the dpll running
06:23 PM skunkworks: iirc -200
06:23 PM Tom_L: ahh
06:24 PM skunkworks: (this is over ethernet)
06:24 PM pcw_mesa: Yes I have it running at 1 KHz
06:24 PM skunkworks: I assume spi has a bit less overhead?
06:24 PM pcw_mesa: ( SPI )
06:24 PM pcw_mesa: Yeah no network stack or spyware
06:26 PM skunkworks: Just spent over 7k on microsoft licenses at work...
06:26 PM * skunkworks hugs linux
06:27 PM skunkworks: (and that wasn't much for the money)
06:44 PM skunkworks: Tom_L: I don't know if the updated firmware or something I did with the install fixed it
06:54 PM _unreal_: ok PIZZA is in the oven
06:55 PM _unreal_: just finshed making two pizzas from scratch
06:56 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/house/pizza.JPG
07:00 PM _unreal_: I'm not finding much in the way of two rail deals?
07:00 PM _unreal_: trying to find two mgn15 by 700mm
07:10 PM ve7it: skunkworks, pizza looks great... I'll bring the beer!
07:10 PM _unreal_: skunkworks, is that what You made tonight?
07:11 PM _unreal_: from scratch? or from a frozen box?
07:17 PM Tom_L: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32825230041.html
07:20 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I just found them for $31
07:20 PM _unreal_: each
07:20 PM _unreal_: bbiab eating
07:20 PM Tom_L: single slide
07:32 PM skunkworks: _unreal_: no - not tonight.. A while ago.. (it just turned out so good)
07:53 PM _unreal_: hehe skunkworks tonights https://drive.google.com/open?id=1zavIOX-X8iKQ3Jm68hCk0uTLlnW5oZK5
07:54 PM _unreal_: 100% hand made
07:55 PM _unreal_: so Tom_L I'm ordering from aliexpress
07:56 PM _unreal_: getting all 15mm
07:56 PM Tom_L: are those single row balls?
07:56 PM _unreal_: and going with 4 cars per axis
07:56 PM Tom_L: looks like it
07:56 PM _unreal_: single row?
07:57 PM Tom_L: my carriages have 2 rows of balls on each side
07:57 PM Tom_L: top and bottom
07:57 PM _unreal_: yes single row
07:57 PM Tom_L: i wonder about that on a mill
07:57 PM _unreal_: think it will have lots of play?
07:57 PM _unreal_: I have not ordered yet
07:58 PM Tom_L: i would want more support personally
07:58 PM Tom_L: what keeps them from lifting?
07:59 PM _unreal_: its more or less two V's with the bearings in between
07:59 PM Tom_L: i haven't looked at any cad drawings of those
07:59 PM _unreal_: I'm going with duals reagrdless
07:59 PM Tom_L: i have models of mine
08:02 PM _unreal_: models?
08:02 PM Tom_L: cad models
08:03 PM Tom_L: you can find them
08:03 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Column_Mill_VMC.jpg
08:04 PM Tom_L: i imported all the rails and screws from their models
08:04 PM Tom_L: i had the wrong slides the first time
08:11 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.automation-overstock.com/products.asp?cat=205
08:12 PM CaptHindsight: Equivalent to and interchangeable with Hiwin
08:51 PM _unreal_: I cant find anything negative about the rails I've choosen
08:52 PM _unreal_: I'm ordering them
08:52 PM _unreal_: the only thing I have found is a lot of peole saying clean them
08:52 PM _unreal_: bath the blocks in alcohol
08:52 PM _unreal_: and run spin each bearing set
08:55 PM _unreal_: ordered
08:55 PM Tom_L: OOOoooooo..... wait!!
08:55 PM _unreal_: toooo late
08:57 PM Tom_L: :)
08:58 PM _unreal_: so ya that was like $160
08:58 PM _unreal_: but now I have my rails on the way
08:58 PM Tom_L: x2 for double row with ballscrews
09:01 PM Tom_L: i'm sure you'll be happy with them
09:14 PM _unreal_: crap, I already order and just found a cheaper place now https://www.robotdigg.com/product/347/Custom-length-GCr15-MGN9,-MGN12-or-MGN15-Linear-Rail-n-Carriage?gclid=Cj0KCQiA2b7uBRDsARIsAEE9XpGUJ_iee_YpUBWBnYHKxIieCQsmp4W7VyKJTbAjqTXbo3JY3hqhLS8aAkzeEALw_wcB
09:15 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, ya as I said I'm going to double the cars for each axis
09:15 PM _unreal_: and each one is 2" long
09:16 PM _unreal_: so the X mounting to Y will have a 2" gap meaning 6" of surface contact area to spread the load
09:23 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Y_Axis_plate.jpg
09:23 PM Tom_L: my xy plate was riddled with holes
09:24 PM Tom_L: bit of a trick to miss hitting any with another hole
09:25 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Y_Axis_Plate1.jpg
09:26 PM Tom_L: i did those on the sherline btw
09:27 PM Tom_L: fun fitting it all in
09:56 PM _unreal_: just got the new Z motor coupler installed on my daughters machine
09:57 PM _unreal_: I've been dreading dealing with it
09:57 PM _unreal_: not hard jus NNOYING
09:57 PM _unreal_: hate doing a project twice
09:58 PM _unreal_: hum
09:58 PM _unreal_: ya I'm about to get the readed rod onto my daughters Z
09:58 PM _unreal_: AGAIN
09:59 PM _unreal_: I'm redoing crap because I had to fix the front half of the Z interface mount place,AND I had to swap all of the threaded rod to stainless because its the onlything I could find that didnt have a SICK amount of backlash
