01:27 AM Loetmichel: haha, the moment you have to use medical tools to get a Laserprinter dismantled... just needed to use an aterial clamp to get some springs out of the laser fixture. :-)
02:07 AM * Loetmichel is sucking his thumb. Damn copper foil. sharper edges than a razor blade... *aaaand another bandaid needed* :-(
02:08 AM Deejay: moin
03:29 AM Loetmichel: *GNAH* found a left over burr on the new CNC router... AAAND the next hole in my skin... $me gets ANOTHER bandaid. Today is not my day it seems. :-(
03:31 AM Centreline: Hi all, quick question, can I hook up a mesa 5i25 superport to "normal" break out boards? considering upgrading my dual startech pci based linuxcnc machine to use one because of a latency issue.
03:38 AM Centreline: so my upgrade path will be to just connect the two break out boards to the two superport ports, and let the fpga on the card deal with stepper timings etc
04:17 AM Loetmichel: soo, and ordererd 300 bandaids for my private stash at the company. was running low ;)
04:21 AM naftilos76: Hi, does anybody know why i get an error 9 after a soft reset sent to grbl? If i disconnect the usb and reconnect it i do not get the error
04:21 AM Centreline: is that enough bandaids to put bandaids on bandaids? :)
04:22 AM naftilos76: Do i have to issue any commands after a soft reset?
04:28 AM SpeedEvil: I was going to suggest a michelin man costume - to avoid cuts. Amazons first suggestion is https://www.amazon.co.uk/oten-Vintage-Rockabilly-Cocktail-Dresses/dp/B07X5RT3XT
04:28 AM SpeedEvil: I am unsure why
04:31 AM Centreline: The joys of being a amateur, I can just bleed all over the parts and not bother (unless its one of those really deep ones from the edge stainless swarf)
04:34 AM Centreline: I bought the mesa superport (off ebay), I'll know for sure the answer to my question in a week or two. But reading mesa's blurb it seems likely.
04:34 AM SpeedEvil: :)
04:57 AM Tom_L: morning
04:58 AM Tom_L: 25°F, Hi 51
05:20 AM jthornton: morning
05:20 AM jthornton: 17°F
05:20 AM XXCoder: brr heh
08:18 AM Loetmichel: *HARRRHARRR* Coworker just came by with a bunch of 1,5mm aluminium u-profiles i made as Monitor frames a while ago. Painted and ready to install. "doesent fit!" $me lokked along the edge... "yeah, its crooked here and here, see?" *OOOOMPH* *BEND by hand* "now it will fit, try it!" Coworker: <:-O
08:26 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: maybe they are against the use of force tosolve problems?
08:40 AM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: its more a problem of knowing where to use the force
08:40 AM Loetmichel: he didnt see the bend, nor was he able to bend it back into shape
09:22 AM * Loetmichel just crawled in the 1,5 foot space between wall and measurement chamber, removed a ton of cobwebs and opened the insulation transformer in there to see why the measurement chamber had lost 2 of three phases... looked on the transformer label: "4kW 230V 1ph" *WTF*? Found a wago terminal burned to a crisp. the one that installed that chamber really did the 3 phase electrics inside
09:22 AM * Loetmichel the chamber and then put them all on the output single phase transformer with the german version of a wire nut :-( Wanna working with PROs only ONCE, please!
10:58 AM sensille: Loetmichel: what might you think they even exit? i haven't seen any evidence yet
10:59 AM Loetmichel: ?
10:59 AM sensille: PROs
10:59 AM Loetmichel: ah, exist
10:59 AM sensille: oops
11:00 AM * sensille <- no professional typist
11:00 AM Loetmichel: ... because i am one :)
11:07 AM Centreline: Professional what is the question :)
11:08 AM Centreline: I am a professional vandal for example :)
11:46 AM Loetmichel: Centreline: professional "universal handyman". Be it electronics, electrics, plumbing, woodwork, bricklaying, drywall, roofing, car repair, CNC machining, manual machining, you name it. Point is that i take pride in my work, whatever it is at the moment and would simply not deliver such a "shit job" because i can do better so i aim to do better.
11:48 AM Tom_L: oh you're one of those.....
11:48 AM Tom_L: :)
11:48 AM Loetmichel: one of what?
11:48 AM * Tom_L doesn't repeat the whole list
11:48 AM * Loetmichel is sure he forgot a few professions ;)
11:48 AM sensille: e/win 46
11:49 AM Tom_L: i hope i have instilled that in my kids
11:49 AM Loetmichel: sensille: ??
11:50 AM sensille: Loetmichel: -e
11:50 AM sensille: just wanted to switch window
11:50 AM Loetmichel: :-)
11:50 AM sensille: could also say: get away from all those professionals :P
11:55 AM Loetmichel: Centreline: i once rewired a flat for my cousin, including the main fuse panel and everyting elese. The day the utilites guy came to connect the meter to the fuse box (not allowed for a normal electrician in germany, has to be an utilities guy) he asked my cousin: "that wasnt a pro that did that, right?" her answer: "no, it was my cousin, but he IS a certified electrician." utilities guy:
11:55 AM Loetmichel: "it shows. that box is WAY to clean and neat to be the usual rush job!" :-)
11:56 AM Loetmichel: as i said: i take pride in my work so the fuse box had no crooked wire in it
11:57 AM Loetmichel: all bent nicely and parallel laid on the back and bundled with wax yarn if neccessary
12:30 PM Centreline: I wired my house here, and they came to inspect before connecting it to the grid, and they measured the impedance of every socket earth pin, one socket was 2 ohms out of spec, but my main house earth was half the permissible max, but they failed me anyway
12:30 PM Centreline: a professional electrician friend told me he'd never heard of a inspector measuring every socket, but I think I offended them by saying I'd done it myself...
12:31 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: more likely you offended them by not paying for some "intermediate inspections"
12:31 PM Loetmichel: or "rough in inspections" or something
12:31 PM Centreline: lol I had a electrician on standby who came and checked it out first, and who measured the impedance of the earth as I didnt have a leakage tester
12:32 PM Centreline: and he said "its all good" lol
12:32 PM Centreline: I knew the earth would be good as I put a massive mesh groundplane under the subfloor...
12:33 PM Centreline: no watering can on the earth on the day like most people do...
12:33 PM Centreline: so I think I just had offended them by not paying the old boy club fees and having my electrician there on the day
12:34 PM jymmmm: howdy
12:34 PM Centreline: thank deity I've kept them out of my workshop (3ph...)
12:34 PM Centreline: 120v auto transformer to run the japanese edm etc :D
12:35 PM Centreline: 100v , I forget the line voltage, but its 3ph industrial japanese voltage spec.
12:35 PM Centreline: And no, I wouldn't use a wago connector to join anything of note.
12:39 PM miss0r2: ffs... I put my Maho 500c mill on our equivalent of craigslist. It has 200 something views in the last 24 hours - no calls :-/
12:40 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: yes, thats what i meant
12:41 PM Loetmichel: you didnt pay enough to certain individuals so they searched until they found someting to fail you for
12:44 PM Centreline: yes, I visited a friend, and his house got consuel certification, and the electrician had put a socket in the splashback next to the kitchen sink :)
12:45 PM Centreline: I had a photo somewhere of a combined sink + 3phase electric hob they sold here in the DIY shops for a while too :)
12:47 PM Loetmichel: Centreline: harhar
12:47 PM Loetmichel: yes, i had my share of that kind of shit when i was a "repair electrician"
12:48 PM Loetmichel: 3 years of doing electric work was enough for me to search for something less agitating though ;)
02:42 PM jymmmm: Do you think this could be convereted into a cattleprod of sorts? https://www.amazon.com/VIPERTEK-VTS-989-Billion-Rechargeable-Flashlight/dp/B01FHDZGGM/

07:29 PM _unreal_: ok... everything apears to be good
07:49 PM _unreal_: I'm stupid
07:49 PM _unreal_: I milled the wrong half

08:15 PM infornography: I do stuff like that all the time ...
08:18 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest81809
08:20 PM CaptHindsight: had a great time at fabtech today
08:20 PM CaptHindsight: confirmed that they are price fixing thermoplastic powders for SLS printing
08:21 PM CaptHindsight: just like the oil shortage, epoxy shortage, dram, Popeyes chicken sandwiches etc etc
08:22 PM Tom_L: no shortage i knew of
08:22 PM Tom_L: other than greed
08:23 PM CaptHindsight: yup
08:23 PM CaptHindsight: SLS patent expired a couple years ago
08:24 PM CaptHindsight: then they price fixed the powders at $100/lb
08:24 PM CaptHindsight: bough out the competition and made deals to keep prices up
08:25 PM CaptHindsight: also met a metal powder supplier, similar story...
08:25 PM CaptHindsight: metal powders like SS in 100um particles for SLS $100/lb
08:26 PM CaptHindsight: metal powders like SS in ~100um particles for abrasives or blasting materials $5/lb
08:26 PM CaptHindsight: same material, way different prices
08:39 PM _unreal_: mama that huts
08:39 PM _unreal_: hurts
08:40 PM _unreal_: heh I'm wondering how I'm going to get the block out of the retainer holder
08:41 PM _unreal_: when its done milling ouch
08:41 PM _unreal_: ouch
08:41 PM _unreal_: I breathed
08:41 PM _unreal_: I dont know what was worse? inhale or exhale
08:41 PM _unreal_: ouch

11:08 PM flyback: nice to have this working again at my house https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrtomtpDv2g <--- yes I built the lighting controller
11:25 PM perry_j1987: well fabtech was a lot bigger than I imagined
11:32 PM CaptHindsight: I only covered about 20% of it in 5 hours
11:36 PM perry_j1987: got to the point where had to start speed walking and then come back to what was interesting
11:45 PM AndroUser: Why don't ppl use hydraulic motors on lathes?
11:46 PM CaptHindsight: because most lathes are not that big
11:47 PM AndroUser: I can buy cdn$21HP for like $200
11:48 PM AndroUser: It will spin. I need torque. I have not done the math.
11:52 PM AndroUser: I M gonna get me a woman. They are useful
