01:46 AM Deejay: moin
04:53 AM jthornton: morning
04:54 AM XXCoder: yo
05:16 AM Tom_L: morning
05:28 AM jthornton: looks like Thursday night will be the first real frost 26F for a low
05:28 AM jthornton: I wonder why Ctrl Shift U 0 Enter does not work on this PC?
05:30 AM XXCoder: jt theres artic air blowing down now
05:30 AM XXCoder: spreading out
06:01 AM pink_vampire: Hi
06:02 AM XXCoder: yo
06:02 AM XXCoder: check this ou https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-F_T59ZDPw
06:07 AM pink_vampire: cool!!
06:07 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:08 AM pink_vampire: I'm working on new code for mt stack light
06:08 AM XXCoder: yeah? whats you changing
06:08 AM pink_vampire: make it smarter
06:13 AM XXCoder: example?
07:09 AM jymmmm: Good morning folks
07:10 AM XXCoder: yo
07:15 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: Pause mode
07:16 AM XXCoder: nice
07:16 AM pink_vampire: it is 99% better to just pause the machine than E-stop
07:17 AM XXCoder: yeah estop you have to home machine again etc etc
07:18 AM SpeedEvil: Sometimes you need to really, really stop a morning though.
07:19 AM pink_vampire: I have small E-stop button that I'm thinking about make it to a pause button
07:19 AM pink_vampire: but it is red...
07:19 AM XXCoder: machines at work pause is also red but smaller button
07:20 AM pink_vampire: SpeedEvil: I don't have a brake on my Z axis, if you kill the power without lock it can make it drop
07:21 AM pink_vampire: encoder problem > E-stop
07:21 AM pink_vampire: setup problem > pause
07:23 AM Elmo40: roycroft, why is that sadly? it has always been like this. that is chemistry in action.
07:24 AM Elmo40: let alone all the NOx is produces! that is a larger issue.
07:28 AM Tom_L: 26°F Hi 43
07:31 AM pink_vampire: any idea where to add the pause button?
07:32 AM Tom_L: signal wise?
07:32 AM sync: Elmo40: no, the nox is not really an issue in the long term
07:32 AM sync: the good thing is that the fires emit particles
07:33 AM Elmo40: helps block the sun
07:33 AM jymmmm: YAY.... They started the black out 2 minutes ago without warning other than "today"
07:51 AM pink_vampire: Tom_L: I'm thinking maybe to put in on the head of the machine
08:42 AM jymmmm: YAY BLACKOUT!!!
08:44 AM jymmmm: So, let's do the math kids... 3 day blackout, then back on yesterday at 3pm, then off today at 5am for another two days. Power for 14 hours a week, oh joy
08:46 AM SpeedEvil: And you diddn't even have to move to south africa.
08:47 AM pink_vampire: jymmmm: how can you make parts without power?
08:47 AM jymmmm: SpeedEvil: What's in SA?
08:47 AM SpeedEvil: jymmmm: rolling blackouts are usual
08:47 AM SpeedEvil: the power infrastructure has major problems
08:47 AM jymmmm: SpeedEvil: Ah gotcha
08:48 AM SpeedEvil: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%932019_South_African_energy_crisis
08:49 AM jymmmm: pink_vampire: Not enough generator to, but at least fortunate enough to not have to throw out spoiled food. Hell even the market up here has a BIG generator now, because they had to throw out $100,000 in groceries
08:50 AM SpeedEvil: I wonder if their insurance covered.
08:50 AM jymmmm: and it's 34F right now, but got the wood stove started
08:50 AM pink_vampire: jymmmm: that is crazy
08:50 AM pink_vampire: think about moving to better place
08:50 AM jymmmm: SpeedEvil: It was, but I suspect that if they kept making claims every few days, they would get dropped.
08:51 AM jymmmm: They actually donated the food to the salvation army
08:52 AM pink_vampire: if I hit pause do you think the spindle should pause as well?
08:52 AM jymmmm: It's a local chain, but they are good people. Even the General Manager answers phone calls, very nice guy.
08:52 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: ^
08:53 AM jymmmm: pink_vampire: as long as UNpause has enough of a delay to allow the sprindle to get back up to speed before moving
08:54 AM pink_vampire: jymmmm: that it a good point
08:54 AM JT-Shop: if spindle at speed is setup properly motion won't start unless the spindle is up to speed
08:54 AM pink_vampire: and this is also why I'm control the spindle manual
08:54 AM SpeedEvil: You may also want to pause for extended periods
08:55 AM SpeedEvil: say a few hours to get a new bit.
08:55 AM SpeedEvil: And changing bits with the spindle in motion is also harder.
08:55 AM jymmmm: SpeedEvil: Nah, it's just a challenge =)
08:57 AM pink_vampire: JT-Shop: my spindle is not connected to linux cnc
08:57 AM miss0r: hoi hoi
08:58 AM pink_vampire: I have 3 options for spindles, so I just power them manually
08:59 AM pink_vampire: R8 spindle - Servo mode / DC mode, and also AUX HF spindle
08:59 AM jymmmm: Hmmm, UNpause seems a bit of a safety thing. at least START needs to get out of estop first, UN/PAUSE doesn't.
09:00 AM pink_vampire: what is the best way to control all the spindles from linux cnc?
09:00 AM pink_vampire: if there is any?
09:00 AM jymmmm: ALL? like multiple?
09:01 AM pink_vampire: I mean for light materials and engraving, I'm working with the HF, but on metal like steel I'm using the R8, and for tapping I need it as servo
09:02 AM jymmmm: pink_vampire: JT-Shop gave me the impression there is a spindle setup, so maybe look into that?
09:02 AM pink_vampire: the way it is setup now, the R8 DC, and also the AUX HF not connected to linux cnc, and the R8 servo, is configured as my C axis
09:03 AM pink_vampire: jymmmm: this is why I'm bit unsure
09:04 AM pink_vampire: JT-Shop: ?
09:05 AM jymmmm: pink_vampire: soft start... http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/examples/spindle.html
09:06 AM miss0r: I might soon have a Deckel maho 500c with a linux cnc controller for sale. The controller is not attached and the machine is working with the original philips 432 on there. The linuxcnc controller is complete apart from the programming. Anyone interrested? it is located in Denmark
09:08 AM pink_vampire: I'm in NY
09:08 AM miss0r: yeah... thats gonna be a bit of a hassle with shipping :) not to mention, this thing is configured for 3x400volt
09:10 AM pink_vampire: I will talk to my landlord to upgrade my 110V to 400 industrial power
09:11 AM pink_vampire: even to get 220V for my spindle was almost impassible
09:11 AM roycroft: good luck with that
09:12 AM miss0r: hehe. I believe the internal transformer can be configured to accept 3x200 volt/220 volt
09:12 AM pink_vampire: he don't allow me any 4 legged pet, but don't care about 3 fishtanks and a machinery stuff
09:13 AM miss0r: meh.. this machine/pet here is configured for four mount points/feet :D
09:13 AM SpeedEvil: pink_vampire: Cats with three legs are cheap at shelters.
09:13 AM miss0r: I think he might have an issue with that
09:13 AM SpeedEvil: Also, ostritches
09:14 AM miss0r: SpeedEvil: those things are mean... YOu wouldn't want to live with those
09:14 AM pink_vampire: I have shrimp in my fishtanks
09:14 AM miss0r: is that a metaphore for not being right in the head? :D
09:15 AM roycroft: fish are the best pets
09:15 AM roycroft: they're either in their tank or dead
09:15 AM pink_vampire: roycroft: or jumped from the tank
09:15 AM roycroft: which means dead
09:16 AM roycroft: unless you're standing right by the tank when they jump
09:16 AM pink_vampire: and some shrimps can walk almost 10 feet before they die
09:17 AM roycroft: i've been shopping around for some small handwheels for my drill press remodel
09:17 AM roycroft: i kept finding plastic ones in the $20-$25 range
09:17 AM roycroft: and cast iron ones in the $50+ range
09:17 AM jthornton: make some...
09:17 AM roycroft: then i looked over at my grizzly mill/drill
09:18 AM roycroft: and thought to myself "those handwheels are ideal for the drill press application"
09:18 AM roycroft: they are cast iron
09:18 AM pink_vampire: what is handwheels?
09:18 AM roycroft: and cost me $11 each from the grizzly spare parts store
09:18 AM jthornton: can't make them for that price
09:18 AM roycroft: they're the things you turn to make your mill tables move
09:18 AM pink_vampire: OK i saw now
09:18 AM roycroft: no, i can't
09:19 AM pink_vampire: I have 3 from my cnc
09:19 AM roycroft: i had even entertained the thought of casting some
09:19 AM pink_vampire: you can come and take them if you want
09:19 AM roycroft: because i've always wanted to do some smelting/casting
09:19 AM roycroft: but that's a rather ambitious project
09:19 AM roycroft: and my goal is to get the work done on the drill press asap
09:19 AM roycroft: not to learn new skills and acquire new equipment
09:19 AM miss0r: I hear'ya. I've long wanted to do cast iron at home
09:20 AM roycroft: i'd actually like to cast bronze
09:20 AM miss0r: but, as you said, it is rather ambitious
09:20 AM roycroft: and i still do
09:20 AM roycroft: but just not for this particular project
09:21 AM miss0r: I mean; imagine being able to do proper machine tools of cast iron at home
09:21 AM miss0r: without just 'shaving' it down
09:21 AM jthornton: I just want to sand cast some aluminum
09:21 AM roycroft: not as ambitious as bronze/iron, but that's still a significant project
09:21 AM roycroft: not the easiest way to recycle your beer cans :)
09:21 AM miss0r: Indeed
09:22 AM miss0r: hehe
09:22 AM miss0r: I could do something with all the aluminium shavings I make'round here
09:22 AM net|: https://i.imgur.com/U5xgnSB.png i ordered 50
09:22 AM roycroft: not to mention you'd have to drink an awful lot of beer to accumulate enough cans to be worth casting
09:22 AM miss0r: I probably sell around 1cubic meter of loosely packed alu chips/month
09:23 AM pink_vampire: aluminum is cheap
09:23 AM miss0r: I've watched more metal casting videos on youtube than is good for me...
09:24 AM miss0r: Some day I might give it a go
09:24 AM pink_vampire: miss0r: happen to all of us
09:24 AM miss0r: pink_vampire: Yeah. But think of all the transportation time I would save melting it down :D 1) collect chips 2) melt chips down 3) ??? 4) profit! :P
09:25 AM net|: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tN14xlWWmA
09:25 AM pink_vampire: I'm working on my nails, and also working working of the face plate in solidworks, and chat with you on the irc
09:26 AM pink_vampire: net|: I know kicad - it is grate software
09:27 AM miss0r: pink_vampire are you even able to keep nice nails while doing machining? i.e. can those two things coexist?
09:28 AM pink_vampire: miss0r: sure, nails first
09:28 AM miss0r: ha... I guess its just about priority
09:28 AM pink_vampire: net|: https://i.imgur.com/a5bIz68.png https://i.imgur.com/428RQ7m.png
09:29 AM roycroft: so jeremy schmidt claims to be working on a "surface grinder" attachment for his belt grinder
09:29 AM roycroft: i'm somewhat dubious
09:30 AM roycroft: with a large contact wheel, he may be able to make a fixture to put a nice finish on parts
09:30 AM miss0r: I guess a belt sander can easily 'grind a surface'... but I doubt you would get any sort of precision :D
09:30 AM pink_vampire: who is "jeremy schmidt"?
09:30 AM roycroft: but to be able to precisely grind them to tenths with a belt grinder, i don't think so
09:30 AM roycroft: he's a "maker" who came up with a really good design for a belt grinder
09:31 AM roycroft: i modeled mine very closely to his plans
09:31 AM SpeedEvil: A surface grinder that can grind to tens would be useful for some things.
09:31 AM miss0r: roycroft... meh... well. Assuming the quality of the belt is excellent and you use a steel roller.. something could be achieved
09:31 AM pink_vampire: I need a small belt sander to remove tabs from parts
09:32 AM roycroft: pink_vampire: Ăhttp://jerswoodshop.com/2x72-tilting-belt-grinder/
09:32 AM roycroft: it's a really good design
09:32 AM pink_vampire: roycroft: LOL that is insane!
09:33 AM roycroft: what i especially like is that the power unit tilts up to 90 degrees, while the table is stationary
09:33 AM pink_vampire: i'm talking about removing 1mm tab from a part
09:33 AM roycroft: yeah
09:33 AM roycroft: i'm not suggesting you build that for your application
09:33 AM roycroft: but you asked who he is
09:33 AM roycroft: and that's who he is :)
09:34 AM roycroft: https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-1-x-30-Belt-5-Disc-Combo-Sander/H6070
09:34 AM roycroft: that's more like what you need
09:36 AM roycroft: i made my belt grinder last spring, and made a stand for it this summer
09:36 AM roycroft: now that the rainy season is here, i'm in the midst of painting the grinder, and that's almost done
09:36 AM roycroft: it will be back in service in a week or so, freshly painted and ready to go
09:37 AM roycroft: i just made a platen attachment initially, and 90 degree and 45 degree fixed angle tables
09:38 AM roycroft: i just got a 250mm contact wheel and a set of small contact wheels - i'll be making tool arms for those after the grinder is back together
09:38 AM roycroft: and also an adjustable angle table and a radius grinding table
10:07 AM roycroft: hmm, this guy made a surface grinder attachment for his belt grinder, and claims he can hold 0.0005" with it
10:07 AM roycroft: that's not too bad
10:07 AM roycroft: https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-1-x-30-Belt-5-Disc-Combo-Sander/H6070
10:07 AM roycroft: ack
10:07 AM roycroft: mispost
10:07 AM roycroft: https://www.therobinsonedge.com/single-post/2018/08/07/Surface-Grinder-Build
10:07 AM roycroft: that's better
10:30 AM Rab: roycroft, I'm mildly skeptical of a reliable half thou with (I'm assuming) off-the-shelf belts, but that's a nice DIY build.
10:33 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rafter-Square-Carpenter-Aluminum-Layout/dp/B075Q6RCX2
10:34 AM SpeedEvil: Horsepower 2.00 horsepower
10:35 AM Rab: furiously adding to cart
10:36 AM Rab: Waitaminit, how does 1.00V @ 2.00W add up to 2.00HP?
10:37 AM Rab: Must be free energy, ordering two.
11:34 AM Tom_L: first official snow flakes have fallen
12:33 PM serp: was it certified?
01:40 PM jymmmm: jthornton: honey butter chicken https://realhousemoms.com/honey-butter-chicken/
01:43 PM JT-Shop: looks delicious and very fattening
01:59 PM andypugh: “Take one chicken, pat it on the head, eat the butter and the honey on bread”
02:03 PM JT-Shop: they don't like to get patted on the head lol
02:19 PM andypugh: It beats being eaten, I suspect.
03:07 PM FleaFart is now known as judgmental
03:15 PM JT-Shop: andypugh: have you done any thermoforming polycarbonate sheet?
03:15 PM andypugh: Yes.
03:15 PM andypugh: And recently
03:17 PM andypugh: With “mixed results”
03:17 PM JT-Shop: my first attempts were failures lol, I have a sheet of 1/8" in the oven drying at 250F
03:17 PM andypugh: Yes, drying for several hours seems to be critical.
03:17 PM JT-Shop: I have the dry time set to 3 hours and then a ramp up to 350
03:17 PM JT-Shop: f
03:17 PM andypugh: Here is one of my failures, being used as a splash guard: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dg6fcEf1ULSFqHUX8
03:17 PM JT-Shop: my first one was very pretty with all the bubbles
03:18 PM andypugh: My final one also had bubbles. I decided I could live with them :-)
03:18 PM JT-Shop: from what I've read the thicker the sheet the longer it takes to dry
03:19 PM SpeedEvil: Diffusion is slow.
03:20 PM XXCoder: andypugh: just dont kiss chickens. i read about cases of people infected by salmonella that way
03:21 PM andypugh: Or parrots https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psittacosis
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: Or tigers https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/siegfried-roys-animal-handler-breaks-silence-tiger-mauling-alleges-cover-up-1197216
03:23 PM XXCoder: infectious for MONTHS jeez
03:55 PM judgmental is now known as FleaFart
04:28 PM Deejay: gn8
04:40 PM JT-Shop: no bubbles
04:45 PM Tom_L: yay
04:45 PM Tom_L: ready to vacuum yet?
04:45 PM JT-Shop: close I guess
04:47 PM Tom_L: had a dusting of snow this morning
04:47 PM roycroft: we had a hard-ish frost last night
04:47 PM roycroft: i'd be shocked if we had snow this early
04:47 PM roycroft: it's pretty early for a hard frost even
04:48 PM Tom_L: it is arriving a bit early this year
04:50 PM JT-Shop: wasn't soft enough after 10 minutes at 350... but looking every minute might not have helped
04:57 PM Tom_L: heh you gotta get a window :)
05:03 PM JT-Shop: I NEED a window
05:04 PM JT-Shop: been in there for 10 minutes again so far
05:04 PM Tom_L: you won't get any predictable results until you can keep it shut
05:04 PM SpeedEvil: Just drill a hole.
05:05 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0u8Vtf2GoQ related
05:05 PM JT-Shop: there is 3 holes but you can't see anything
05:06 PM JT-Shop: at least I know 3 hours drying is "enough" for 1/8"
05:12 PM JT-Shop: closest cheap oven is in Marquand...
05:12 PM Tom_L: goodwill?
05:13 PM JT-Shop: good idea
05:14 PM Tom_L: or even a repair shop. all you need is the oven part
05:15 PM JT-Shop: we have a few thrift stores and a big goodwill store
05:16 PM JT-Shop: one thing I know for sure now is how much slump is not enough...
05:19 PM * SpeedEvil wishes unblown perlite was available.
05:20 PM SpeedEvil: (glass with water dissolved in it that you heat to ~800C and it popcorns
05:20 PM SpeedEvil: ^availible in units smaller than a small ship
05:21 PM jymmmm: I'm BAACCCK sorta - you've been warned
05:22 PM _unreal_: have you been playing that old 90's song " I got the power " dee de ddddd deeededede....
05:23 PM _unreal_: LOL
05:23 PM _unreal_: time for a shower
05:27 PM _unreal_: ?
05:27 PM _unreal_: oh well time for a shower I guesss
05:35 PM JT-Shop: bumped the temp up to 360F and it was much closer... just gotta play with it tomorrow
05:48 PM adamj12b: Hi Everyone, Does anyone here know anything about how Tormach expanded work offsets from the default 9 to 500? https://www.tormach.com/support/wpdmpro/pathpilot-software-update-v2-3-4/?wpdmdl=7390&ind=1570733501221
05:51 PM Tom_L: i've never used 9 yet
05:52 PM Tom_L: no clue why you would need 500
05:53 PM Tom_L: and it looks like they discarded the regular 9
05:53 PM Tom_L: requiring special mapping to them
05:54 PM Tom_L: well, i guess you can use either on the first 9
05:55 PM adamj12b: Ive had occasions where having more than 9 would be handy, but not very often.
05:56 PM adamj12b: I have a repeat job on my rotary axis that uses 4 offsets on the rotary and another on a fixed station. It would be nice to set this up and leave the offsets stored for later.
05:56 PM adamj12b: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Fevh49WJLfqEJY4H8
05:57 PM adamj12b: Also, some of you may enjoy my rotary I built out of a Sony SCARA robot which had a size32 80:1 harmonic drive and 500W AC servo. It does a fantastic job.
05:59 PM Tom_L: nice
06:01 PM adamj12b: Next project is to add a second one to make it a trunnion.
06:08 PM adamj12b: That reminds me, What is the suggested method for having multiple configurations for the same machine? If I build a trunion, I will have a 3, 4 or 5 axis config based on what portion is mounted. I want to keep the tool table, and sub routines and config all in sync so Im looking for suggestions.
06:08 PM Tom_L: you could have 3 ini files that point to the same tool table and other necessary files
06:08 PM Tom_L: call each one as needed
06:08 PM Tom_L: 3 icons if you will
06:08 PM Tom_L: copy any hal files that may change and point to them in each ini
06:09 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure about the .var file if you can share it or not
06:10 PM jthornton: yea you can have multiple ini files in the same directory
06:10 PM Tom_L: seems you can
06:10 PM Tom_L: i just checked
06:10 PM Tom_L: PARAMETER_FILE = is the .var file
06:11 PM jthornton: dunno why you would want to share the parameter file?
06:11 PM Tom_L: i would create 3 icons to call each ini and label them
06:11 PM jthornton: yep
06:12 PM jthornton: chicken TV is funny to watch the roost time shuffle
06:13 PM Tom_L: do they each end up in the same spot each night?
06:13 PM jthornton: calling for a low of 25F Thursday night here
06:13 PM jymmmm: jthornton: and a high of 30?
06:13 PM Tom_L: Lo 32
06:14 PM jthornton: high 50F
06:14 PM jthornton: smf dimmpu
06:14 PM jthornton: and sunny
06:15 PM jymmmm: Can anyone think of reason NOT to install a petcock valve to replace the oil drain plug on the generator? https://i.imgur.com/MwUlzJ9.jpg
06:16 PM jymmmm: 59/34 here today, slightly warmer tomorrow.
06:16 PM jthornton: I would not use a fuel valve, I'd use a ball valve with a plug
06:17 PM jymmmm: jthornton: ... a "plug"???
06:18 PM jthornton: yea in case you bump the valve handle... actually one without a handle would be best
06:19 PM jymmmm: jthornton: I'm trying to make this "toolless". I do have the petcock valve already (arrived today, cheap), is there any reason why it wouldn't work?
06:19 PM jthornton: https://www.mcmaster.com/4082t42
06:20 PM jthornton: dunno, try it and see... generators are cheap
06:20 PM jymmmm: 10mm threads
06:21 PM jymmmm: jthornton: lol, no seriously, either way I'm curous why not use one?
06:21 PM jthornton: the drain plug is 10mm?
06:21 PM jymmmm: yeah
06:21 PM jthornton: harbor fright?
06:22 PM jymmmm: The generator? no Duromax XP4850EH, but it's a china gen.
06:22 PM jymmmm: dual fuel, electric start
06:23 PM jthornton: Tom_L, mostly the do end up in the same place but it changes from time to time
06:23 PM pink_vampire: did someone know about e-stop button with electrical release mechanism?
06:23 PM jthornton: they have 11' of roost and lately 6 are on the east 4' and 1 is on the west 4' behind the curtain
06:24 PM jthornton: pink_vampire, never seen one before
06:25 PM pink_vampire: I have a problem with my pause button
06:25 PM jthornton: choot it
06:25 PM pink_vampire: it work fine as long that you didn't click pause in the linux cnc interface
06:26 PM adamj12b: jthornton I am looking to have 3 configs for the same machine. 3, 4 and 5 axis but want to maintain offsets and tool table and such between all 3. Thats what tom was talking about earlier.
06:27 PM jthornton: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/47-hal-examples/13201-run-step-hold-resume-buttons
06:27 PM jthornton: adamj12b, should work
06:27 PM jthornton: time to lock the chickens up
06:28 PM _unreal_: ok so I'm trying to figure out why this motherboard is not reading this 8gb ram?
06:28 PM _unreal_: yet its supposed to support 8gb ram
06:29 PM _unreal_: p5g41-m le motherboard
06:30 PM SpeedEvil: _unreal_: you put it in the floppy drive?
06:30 PM SpeedEvil: More seriously - tried putting it in the existing RAM slot, rather than additional?
06:37 PM _unreal_: floppy
06:37 PM _unreal_: ?
06:37 PM _unreal_: there are only 2 slots
06:37 PM _unreal_: and the motherboard is only seeing 50% of each stick of ram
06:37 PM SpeedEvil: ah
06:38 PM _unreal_: so I have 8gb. its seeing dual channel 4gigs
06:38 PM _unreal_: if I take a single stick it it reports single channel 2gb
06:38 PM _unreal_: yet it claims to support 8gb
06:38 PM SpeedEvil: Have you gone into the actual tested RAM list and checked if your RAM is comparable?
06:38 PM _unreal_: no clue
06:39 PM _unreal_: that would be a no
06:39 PM jthornton: what do you get when you run memtest?
06:39 PM _unreal_: ddr2 ram is getting scarce
06:39 PM _unreal_: have not run memtest
06:39 PM _unreal_: right now I dont even have any drives hooked upto the board
06:39 PM jthornton: just a thought
06:40 PM _unreal_: The original ram is crucial 2x 2gb
06:40 PM jthornton: did it go bad or are you trying to put more ram in?
06:41 PM _unreal_: I picked up samsung ram from newegg
06:41 PM _unreal_: trying to add ram
06:41 PM _unreal_: DOUBLE the ram
06:41 PM _unreal_: cadwork and 4gb in windows does not work
06:42 PM jthornton: ah yea you're dual booting?
06:42 PM _unreal_: i'm not botting anything on this desktop at the moment
06:42 PM _unreal_: hehe
06:43 PM _unreal_: not if I cant up the ram
06:43 PM _unreal_: waste of time
06:43 PM jthornton: ah
06:43 PM * jthornton watches the chicken door close
06:43 PM _unreal_: I'll just finish tripping the last of the broken glass off the face of that i5 envy23
06:44 PM _unreal_: stripping
06:44 PM _unreal_: broken "touch" touch screen
06:44 PM jthornton: door down and locked
06:44 PM _unreal_: work gave it to me
06:44 PM _unreal_: "and laydown""!!!!
06:44 PM jthornton: I had to put a new screen on my S4
06:44 PM _unreal_: s4?
06:44 PM jthornton: samsung s4
06:45 PM _unreal_: no idea
06:45 PM jthornton: it got ran over by a Spyder
06:45 PM _unreal_: phone?
06:45 PM jthornton: yea
06:45 PM _unreal_: dude
06:45 PM _unreal_: get a love me case
06:46 PM _unreal_: watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qw5wqodt3c
06:46 PM _unreal_: if its less then $25 its a fake
06:47 PM _unreal_: http://www.lovemeicase.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55211
06:47 PM jthornton: I typically don't put my phone on the dash of my spyder
06:47 PM _unreal_: regardless
06:47 PM _unreal_: its a SUPER rugged case
06:47 PM _unreal_: the screen is recessed
06:48 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41M_LE/HelpDesk_QVL/ Unless I am confused I can see no supported specification that supports 8GB of RAM
06:48 PM SpeedEvil: 4 is all you get
06:48 PM _unreal_: if the phone lands screen down you can run over it with a car and its likely to survive with out a scratch the phone that is
06:50 PM _unreal_: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41M_LE/specifications/
06:50 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, says right there
06:51 PM SpeedEvil: Odd
06:52 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, and the qvl's show 4gb sticks all over the place
06:52 PM _unreal_: for 8gb
06:54 PM _unreal_: these are my sticks M378T5263AZ3-CF7 and they say passed
06:54 PM _unreal_: so WTF
06:54 PM SpeedEvil: I may have been misreading it.
06:54 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, regardless the bios is reporting the sticks at 2gb each
06:54 PM _unreal_: I've wiped the bios cleared the cmos
06:54 PM SpeedEvil: Checked the flash version?
06:55 PM _unreal_: its current
06:55 PM _unreal_: the "date" is different but the version is the same
06:56 PM _unreal_: my bios shows 6/10/2010 and the website says 10/11/2010 or something like that but the same vesrion number 0605
06:56 PM _unreal_: I dont know if there is some jumper that is set worng?
06:56 PM _unreal_: wrong?
07:23 PM taloot: can i use rpi ethernet to be used with mesa
07:29 PM Tom_L: may be too slow
07:29 PM Tom_L: maybe rpi4
07:29 PM Tom_L: some are testing it currently
07:41 PM Elmo40: Epoxy Granite mill. Very cool.
07:41 PM Elmo40: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbqY8Mcbh0Q
07:59 PM jymmmm: pcw_home: https://www.edingcnc.com/products.php?productid=55
08:11 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, so I contacted ASUS
08:12 PM _unreal_: they said they are going to escalate th case. So I dont know what this may turn into
08:12 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, as I recall my tinkerboard had a jitter rate of 19,000
08:13 PM _unreal_: has
08:13 PM _unreal_: taloot, I would suggest a tinkerboard
08:13 PM _unreal_: over a pi
08:13 PM _unreal_: I dont know about RPI4
08:13 PM Elmo40: does it perform other tasks reasonably well?
08:14 PM Elmo40: if you watch ytube, the rpi4 needs a lot of thermal help!
08:14 PM Elmo40: i still prefer a board with a damn barrel connector instead of a USB port for power supply!! what are they thinking?!?!?
08:16 PM Elmo40: especially with the ~4A draw! that is a LOT for a microUSB to handle
08:18 PM _unreal_: Elmo40, the tinkerboard is very powerful
08:18 PM _unreal_: almost 2x as powerful as the rpi
08:18 PM _unreal_: and the first viersion tinkerboard retials for $50
08:18 PM taloot: backk
08:19 PM Elmo40: still a microUSB power supply. LAME!
08:19 PM _unreal_: 1 and 2 versoins the only difference is one has an onboard flash of 16gb I believe
08:19 PM _unreal_: Elmo40, you dont power it via the USB you powerit via the GPIO header
08:19 PM _unreal_: and yes LAME
08:20 PM _unreal_: taloot, oh no you dont, you get yoru ass back out there
08:20 PM Elmo40: you can power via GPIO?
08:20 PM _unreal_: :)
08:20 PM _unreal_: YES
08:20 PM _unreal_: omg
08:20 PM _unreal_: Elmo40, ONE SEC
08:20 PM Elmo40: if so then why not the raspi??
08:20 PM Elmo40: ima gonna trya!
08:20 PM Elmo40: yup
08:21 PM Elmo40: possible!
08:21 PM Elmo40: nice
08:21 PM Elmo40: looks like i have a more reliable way to power this bitch!
08:21 PM taloot: i will show u my pick
08:21 PM Elmo40: the fucking microUSB is too sensitive.
08:21 PM Elmo40: it get one tiny giggle and LIGHTS OUT!
08:21 PM taloot: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.22.7a697aa2nxc83d&id=602326749138&ns=1&abbucket=20#detail
08:21 PM Elmo40: but the CPIO, that is a whole different game!
08:21 PM taloot: rockchip 3399
08:22 PM taloot: 17$ with 4g ram
08:22 PM taloot: 16 flash
08:22 PM taloot: similar to rpi4 performance
08:22 PM _unreal_: I just opened a can of worms, sent my boss a link to an auction and he's interested in the building LOL
08:22 PM taloot: if i use it with mesa then it will be overkill
08:23 PM _unreal_: taloot, one sec
08:23 PM Elmo40: taloot, is that price in japanese yen?
08:24 PM Elmo40: $17???
08:24 PM Elmo40: damn
08:24 PM _unreal_: WTF #@$%@#$%@#$% DONT KNOW MY GITHUB password?
08:24 PM Elmo40: ship me 10!!
08:24 PM taloot: USD
08:24 PM taloot: this is chinese RMB
08:24 PM Elmo40: „732.00
08:24 PM _unreal_: in otherwords FAKE
08:24 PM taloot: taobao very famous
08:24 PM Elmo40: ah, OK
08:24 PM Elmo40: yes, i know taobao
08:24 PM Tom_L: _unreal_ want me to give you a hint?
08:24 PM _unreal_: omg I cant believe I dont remember my github login
08:25 PM Elmo40: _unreal_, we all know your github passwrd... why don't you?
08:25 PM Elmo40: taloot, i would buy 10 of them at $17USD
08:25 PM Elmo40: with 4GB
08:26 PM taloot: you want forwarder?
08:26 PM taloot: you can buy them @ 133 rmb
08:26 PM _unreal_: looks like I'm goinng to an auction tomrrow :)
08:26 PM _unreal_: LOL
08:26 PM taloot: but u must have forwarder as taobao not shupping directly
08:26 PM _unreal_: my boss just told me... fuck any work projects
08:27 PM taloot: https://www.shipforwarder.com/
08:27 PM Tom_L: well he _is_ the boss
08:27 PM taloot: this is good forwarder
08:27 PM taloot: also i can buy it for u and you paypal me
08:33 PM taloot: i ordered 1 for testing
08:33 PM _unreal_: taloot, https://forum.armbian.com/topic/10007-tinker-board-current-rtos-working-free-offer/
08:33 PM _unreal_: there it is https://github.com/berinc/Asus-Tinker-Board
08:33 PM _unreal_: taloot, that github tells you a lot
08:33 PM taloot: yes
08:33 PM taloot: aloooot
08:33 PM taloot: thanks man
08:33 PM taloot: its similar to rock pi
08:33 PM taloot: but faster
08:33 PM Elmo40: but how much? $50USD for Asus?
08:33 PM taloot: asus is older than this
08:33 PM taloot: i dont know how much is it
08:33 PM taloot: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.129.1b1ddc82PVS11k&id=597958500642&ns=1&abbucket=20#detail
08:33 PM taloot: https://wiki.radxa.com/Home
08:33 PM taloot: its evern with POE
08:34 PM taloot: i read in there forum.. some ppl compline about the heat
08:34 PM taloot: but not big issue for now, also there is latency test
08:34 PM Tom_L: use a case with a fan
08:34 PM taloot: 40.5us
08:35 PM taloot: yes that what i will do..
08:35 PM taloot: but i dont know how it will compare to j1900
08:35 PM Tom_L: slow
08:35 PM taloot: you think so?
08:35 PM Tom_L: i'm using a j1900
08:35 PM Tom_L: at least i think iam
08:36 PM taloot: j1900 performe better than this
08:36 PM Tom_L: i would say so
08:37 PM Tom_L: iirc i'm using a D525
08:37 PM taloot: old d525
08:37 PM Tom_L: i'd have to look but i think i'm still using that
08:38 PM taloot: phones are fast those days
08:38 PM taloot: dont under estmate them
08:38 PM _unreal_: taloot, hi sorry
08:38 PM _unreal_: i'm just dealing with my boss
08:38 PM _unreal_: very interested in a can of worms I opened
08:39 PM _unreal_: ok so as to the tinkerboard
08:39 PM taloot: you will eat it
08:39 PM _unreal_: AND HOW
08:39 PM taloot: how what?
08:39 PM _unreal_: though I'm looking at a used cnc machine I'm interested in a few parts that are like $1200 + EASY
08:39 PM _unreal_: I might be able to get few next to nothing
08:40 PM Tom_L: send me the spindle motor
08:40 PM _unreal_: thats what I'm after
08:40 PM Tom_L: and driver
08:40 PM _unreal_: has a VFD
08:40 PM Tom_L: i don't want high speed though
08:40 PM taloot: buy them all from taobao
08:40 PM taloot: will cost you 1/3
08:40 PM _unreal_: taloot, so as to the tinkerboard
08:40 PM taloot: buy brand names
08:41 PM _unreal_: it does have a few small issues
08:41 PM _unreal_: one is you have to provie the right power
08:41 PM taloot: power supply?
08:41 PM _unreal_: its rock solid as long as the power is correct. you have to power it via the GPIO header power pins
08:41 PM _unreal_: taloot, you did not look at my link did yo
08:41 PM _unreal_: there it is https://github.com/berinc/Asus-Tinker-Board READ
08:42 PM taloot: i saw it
08:42 PM _unreal_: but you didnt look
08:42 PM taloot: yes
08:42 PM _unreal_: how did I guess
08:42 PM _unreal_: taloot, when I did tests I was getting 19,000 on jitter as I reacll.
08:42 PM _unreal_: with lcnc
08:43 PM _unreal_: on the armbian link I osted
08:43 PM _unreal_: I posted the RTOS kernels I compiled
08:43 PM taloot: i saw it .. but rock pi.. RK3399
08:43 PM _unreal_: then go with a pi
08:44 PM _unreal_: tinkerboard had more features
08:44 PM _unreal_: has
08:44 PM taloot: like?
08:44 PM taloot: rock pi faster
08:44 PM taloot: newer pu
08:44 PM taloot: cpu
08:44 PM _unreal_: not a lot faster
08:44 PM _unreal_: then go with rockpi
08:44 PM taloot: M.2
08:45 PM taloot: https://wiki.radxa.com/News/2018/11/introduce-the-new-rockpi-4-hardware
08:45 PM taloot: check this... only 17$
08:46 PM taloot: unreal. i will buy one and send it for you
08:46 PM taloot: so you can compare them togathwe
08:46 PM taloot: did u try rpi4?
08:47 PM _unreal_: LOL rock ethernet is shit
08:47 PM taloot: really?
08:47 PM taloot: u destroy my dreams
08:47 PM taloot: lol
08:48 PM _unreal_: look it up
08:49 PM _unreal_: taloot, its a pi its following the pi trend... dirt cheap
08:49 PM _unreal_: hence the low $
08:49 PM Tom_L: taobao have an english site?
08:49 PM _unreal_: tinkerboard has a hardware network card hardware wifi, and hardware bt
08:49 PM _unreal_: non of which are internal usb interface
08:50 PM taloot: no only for chinese
08:50 PM taloot: rockchip usb?
08:51 PM _unreal_: taloot, thats part of the reason why the tinkeboard gets high marks is because its internal wiring is that of a full sized computer
08:51 PM _unreal_: its all pci, pcie etc....
08:51 PM _unreal_: taloot, My ongoing project has been to try to get a HAL driver built for the tinkerboard
08:52 PM _unreal_: that way it could be nothing more then a quick image DUMP and you have a full scale lcnc ready computer in seconds
08:52 PM _unreal_: just hook up IO to the gpio
08:52 PM _unreal_: direct pin driving to motor controllers
08:52 PM _unreal_: but till the HAL driver is designed its only good for using with MESA control setups
08:52 PM _unreal_: :(
08:52 PM _unreal_: ether SPI or ethernet
08:53 PM _unreal_: I have a tinkerboard setup already with lcnc and in testing. it works amazing
08:53 PM taloot: with mesa or without
08:53 PM Tom_L: ahh you did finally get that goin didn't ya/
08:53 PM Tom_L: ?
08:53 PM * _unreal_ palm to face
08:53 PM _unreal_: IN TESTING
08:53 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, thats been going for like 6 months
08:54 PM _unreal_: taloot, https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNjUL9VJW4BIh58ZOHM6jOWS10l43lfzL_nr7FMD-YXm_o6hG63BfTN2Rv6ch6C_Q?key=OVV0UTBXUmF0NXNSR2NKVzdoaFhxQzVTbDI5V3JB
08:54 PM Tom_L: well stop farting around and get it done
08:54 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I'm swtiching to a full scale computer
08:54 PM Tom_L: good idea
08:55 PM _unreal_: only because I need the encoder feed back
08:55 PM _unreal_: and dont want to spend extra time/money mesa
08:55 PM _unreal_: when I can parport it
08:55 PM _unreal_: taloot, ?
08:55 PM Tom_L: parport is slower
08:55 PM _unreal_: I know
08:55 PM taloot: very good controller
08:55 PM _unreal_: but not by a lot
08:55 PM taloot: new and classic in the same timie
08:55 PM _unreal_: and more then enough to do what I need to do
08:56 PM _unreal_: taloot, you look at that link and if so you like my shell I designed?
08:56 PM _unreal_: I have the molds so I can make those when ever I want
08:56 PM _unreal_: yes I type fast
08:56 PM taloot: yes i love it
08:57 PM _unreal_: it can take upto a 10" lcd
08:57 PM _unreal_: I have an RPI 7" touch display in it right now
08:57 PM taloot: without heat sink
08:57 PM taloot: it works?
08:57 PM _unreal_: ?
08:57 PM _unreal_: heat sink?
08:57 PM taloot: cpu heatsink
08:57 PM _unreal_: cpu has a heat sink on it in the photos
08:57 PM taloot: yes
08:58 PM _unreal_: look at the bottom of the list of photos you will see photos that show the heat sink. and it must have a heat sink
08:58 PM _unreal_: the cpu from the rockpi gets even hotter then the asus
08:59 PM _unreal_: not much
08:59 PM _unreal_: but more stil
08:59 PM _unreal_: ok I'll be back in a half hour got to go feed the kid
08:59 PM _unreal_: taloot, if your in the usa nd are interested in one of those shells I can make you one
08:59 PM _unreal_: any color etc...
08:59 PM _unreal_: I did a marble on that shell
08:59 PM _unreal_: err shells I did two colors
08:59 PM _unreal_: purple ish and a blue
09:00 PM taloot: yes i love to have one of them
09:00 PM taloot: i have an address in us
09:00 PM _unreal_: ok as I said I'll talk to ya in like 30+min got to go have din with my daugther
09:00 PM _unreal_: I'm full time single dad
09:00 PM _unreal_: I get pulled away a lot
09:01 PM _unreal_: hence part of the reason why I type so fast
09:01 PM _unreal_: hehe
09:01 PM _unreal_: got to try to get everything siad
09:01 PM taloot: looooool
09:01 PM _unreal_: ;)
09:04 PM taloot: http://www.rock-chips.com/a/en/News/Press_Releases/2019/0401/984.html
09:31 PM _unreal_: back for the time being
09:32 PM _unreal_: taloot, so ya in the long run there is not much difference between the rock and the tinkerboard
09:33 PM _unreal_: 1.8ghz cpu and so on.
09:33 PM _unreal_: the "differences" in specs are not great
09:37 PM Elmo40: taloot, when do you receive the rock raspi4?
09:37 PM _unreal_: I dont know if he ordered it or he's thinking about it
09:38 PM _unreal_: Elmo40, the tinkerboard still has aspects that out preforme the rockpi
09:40 PM _unreal_: Elmo40, but a lot of the devies on the rockpi are USB interface internal on the board
09:40 PM _unreal_: that sucks
09:40 PM _unreal_: sucks for lcnc
09:42 PM Elmo40: for lcnc you only need the USB
09:42 PM Elmo40: not too worried about ethernet
09:43 PM Elmo40: what else is run over usb?
09:48 PM _unreal_: lcnc and USB dont work
09:48 PM _unreal_: are you suggesting a usb ethernet
09:48 PM _unreal_: err lcnc has no support for anything cnc that I know of
10:04 PM _unreal_: I think I'm going to just setup the I5 as my main windows computer
10:04 PM _unreal_: for doing cad work
10:04 PM _unreal_: enough of this trying to get these other cmoputers setup and working
10:04 PM _unreal_: they will work OK but if I cant get 8gb or more of ram I cant do my cad work
10:04 PM _unreal_: Q%T@$#%^
10:21 PM Tom_L: _unreal_
10:21 PM Tom_L: here's a thought
10:21 PM Tom_L: you want dual boot?
10:22 PM Tom_L: will your bios let you pick the drive you boot from?
10:22 PM Tom_L: that's how i do it
10:23 PM Tom_L: instead of grub or some silly boot loader
10:23 PM Tom_L: i never could get them to work satisfactorily
10:23 PM Tom_L: cmos should have plenty of write cycles on it
10:28 PM Tom_L: just slap another ssd in it
10:28 PM Tom_L: they're about as cheap as ram
10:44 PM _unreal_: I seem to have lost the #@$%@#$ screws to the i5 computer
10:45 PM _unreal_: then again, having to tare my room apart last week do to the water leak didnt help
10:45 PM Tom_L: meh you don't need no stinkin screws
10:45 PM _unreal_: I'm inclined to believe you except fo rthe parts that are hanging free
10:45 PM _unreal_: sigh
10:46 PM _unreal_: I just got all of the edge parts figured out and reinstalled
10:46 PM _unreal_: now I just need the half duzen internal screws that hold the entire face together
10:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Lcvette/Test_pc.jpg
10:46 PM _unreal_: so I can put the back cover on which is held with 2 fucking screws
10:46 PM Tom_L: just how we roll...
10:46 PM _unreal_: ARG
10:46 PM _unreal_: I just got the touch screen glass off finally
10:47 PM _unreal_: I tried taking my hot air gun to the edges and heating the glass and running a razor blade around the edge
10:47 PM _unreal_: that got it
10:47 PM Tom_L: use your cmos to dual boot if you want to dual boot
10:47 PM _unreal_: cardboard bonding?
10:47 PM Tom_L: takes a couple sec longer but i don't switch too much
10:48 PM Tom_L: it's the box for that mb
10:48 PM Tom_L: :)
10:48 PM _unreal_: ya I HATE rebooting
10:48 PM _unreal_: uptime
10:48 PM _unreal_: !
10:48 PM _unreal_: 10 days
10:49 PM _unreal_: though I do need to reboot to do some of the software updates
10:49 PM _unreal_: sig
10:49 PM Tom_L: i had over 300 on my server but it needed to be cleaned out
10:49 PM _unreal_: sigh
10:49 PM _unreal_: my best was 523 days
10:49 PM _unreal_: then we had a hurricane and lost power for to long
10:49 PM _unreal_: I ran out of batteries
10:49 PM Elmo40: i ran an ancient dual-P4 machine with debian potato on it for ~450 days.
10:49 PM _unreal_: dual p4?
10:49 PM Elmo40: yeah
10:49 PM _unreal_: there is no such thing as a dual p4
10:49 PM Elmo40: the cartridge style cpus
10:50 PM _unreal_: always pissed me off intel never produced a DUAL p4
10:50 PM Elmo40: when i find it i'll take a photo of it, and the uname
10:50 PM Elmo40: not dual-core
10:50 PM Elmo40: it had 2 physical cpus
10:51 PM _unreal_: must have been a xeon
10:51 PM _unreal_: becaue there are no p4... cpus oor motherboards
10:51 PM Elmo40: P2?
10:51 PM Elmo40: it was damn old...
10:52 PM _unreal_: a dual p4 3.4ghz machine would likely keep right up with a pentium D and challenge core 2
10:52 PM _unreal_: would have hurt sales
10:52 PM _unreal_: bastards
10:52 PM _unreal_: DAMN IT where are the screws
10:54 PM Elmo40: damn. i found a pdf of the board!!
10:54 PM Tom_L: you should have boxes of spare pc screws

10:54 PM Elmo40: from SMC
10:54 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, they are the plastic style screws with the big flared threads
10:54 PM Elmo40: https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/motherboard/440BX/MNL-0612.pdf
10:54 PM Elmo40: dual P3. that is what it had
10:54 PM _unreal_: 440bx is NOT capable of dual core
10:54 PM _unreal_: p4
10:55 PM _unreal_: dual p3 I can see
10:55 PM Elmo40: "The SUPER P6DBU/P6DBS/P6DBE supports dual Pentium II and
10:55 PM Elmo40: III processors"
10:55 PM _unreal_: so slot 1
10:55 PM Elmo40: yeah. slot 1
