02:12 AM net|: http://www.netpipe.ca/games/SoftBody.html a bit of progress today.
02:30 AM Deejay: moin
02:35 AM XXCoder: yo
04:46 AM jthornton: morning
04:47 AM XXCoder: jthornton: not sure if I menioned to you yet lol but I got mini belt sander
04:47 AM XXCoder: its quite nifty but doesnt come with a way to power it lol asked seller what power brick I need to get.
04:48 AM jthornton: which one did you get?
04:48 AM XXCoder: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000110593007.html
04:49 AM XXCoder: its ... surpising very sturdy
04:49 AM jthornton: yea I'm 0.29GB ahead finally
04:49 AM XXCoder: box got seriously smashed, all I had to is easily rip top off. yet all I needed to do was deburr bottom
04:51 AM jthornton: got to plug a DC wall wort into it?
04:51 AM XXCoder: this thing have decent quality for $30 lol
04:51 AM XXCoder: yeah except I dont know how to find out which plug would match it
04:53 AM XXCoder: hmm I wonder if my mini lathe one would work on it
04:53 AM jthornton: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000025097700.html
05:01 AM XXCoder: that power brick looks simular with my lathe one
05:01 AM XXCoder: couldnt find it tho argh
05:02 AM XXCoder: one you l9inked to is cheaper version
05:10 AM jthornton: yea I just linked it so you could see the power brick
05:10 AM jthornton: did I tell you what was wrong with the hot end fan on the ender 3
05:11 AM XXCoder: umm needed better fan right?
05:11 AM XXCoder: sometimes my memory just fails me :(
05:11 AM jthornton: no, both the power wires were inserted too far in the terminal so the insulation was being crushed
05:12 AM jthornton: so a bad connection
05:12 AM XXCoder: wow i'd remember that
05:12 AM jthornton: just found that last night
05:12 AM XXCoder: so you fixed it and its fin now?
05:12 AM jthornton: aye
05:12 AM jthornton: the fan spins faster now lol
05:13 AM XXCoder: nice
05:26 AM jthornton: looking at openscad now
05:38 AM jthornton: openscad looks a lot like vismach
05:46 AM jthornton: https://youtu.be/33XqGjc9gJQ
05:47 AM XXCoder: ever-higher :)
05:47 AM jthornton: and with a title lol
05:48 AM XXCoder: possibly it uses same render engine as vismach?>
05:48 AM jthornton: similar I'd think
05:48 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw3I1xxjMWE
05:49 AM XXCoder: pretty cool isnt it
05:49 AM XXCoder: once you define globals then you upload it to thingverse, people can customize their own versions
05:49 AM jthornton: yea, I might try and design a mount for my Eagle Tree Vector LCD display
05:49 AM XXCoder: without having to load openscad and tweaking design
05:50 AM XXCoder: there is amazing complex ones like battery holder, er11 holders etc
06:06 AM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=customizable&dwh=95db42738e848f lots of em
06:06 AM XXCoder: this have scad. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:50716/files
06:39 AM jthornton: got all the LED lights up in the lean to, nice and bright in there now when cloudy or dark
06:41 AM XXCoder: nice
06:43 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPgLZgnbREk
06:43 AM jthornton: that's a good one
06:51 AM Tom_L: morning
06:51 AM jthornton: morning
06:51 AM pink_vampire: hi Tom_L
06:51 AM jthornton: rain here all day
06:52 AM pink_vampire: jthornton: why you don't want to learn real cad software?
06:52 AM Tom_L: all flights grounded.
06:52 AM jthornton: what is real cad software?
06:52 AM jthornton: Tom_L, why
06:52 AM Tom_L: rain
06:53 AM Tom_L: you fly in the rain?
06:53 AM pink_vampire: even freecad
06:53 AM jthornton: I have freecad, I've used SolidWorks for years and years lol
06:54 AM pink_vampire: so can you even look at open scad?
06:54 AM XXCoder: lol
06:54 AM Tom_L: for what reason?
06:55 AM Tom_L: my god that's awful software
06:55 AM XXCoder: im pretty sure its that very common reason: fun
06:55 AM pink_vampire: Tom_L: what software is awful?
06:55 AM Tom_L: openscad
06:56 AM pink_vampire: I can't understand people that use it
06:58 AM pink_vampire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP0zI0k9gOs
06:58 AM pink_vampire: in solidworks you don't even need to setup variables
06:59 AM pink_vampire: almost 3 minutes in to the video and not even 1 line!!
06:59 AM jthornton: yea but solidworks limits me to one PC now so I can't use it down in the beer cave anymore
07:00 AM pink_vampire: portable solidworks
07:00 AM pink_vampire: 4 minutes in to the video - cube!
07:04 AM pink_vampire: after 8 minutes he eventually got a bottom side of a box - in solidworks it is ,sketch > extrude > shell > done
07:06 AM XXCoder: well solidworks is $2000
07:06 AM XXCoder: freecad is 0. openscad is 0
07:06 AM pink_vampire: I'm trying to do it is solidworks
07:06 AM XXCoder: so it really comes down to usercase
07:06 AM pink_vampire: starting now
07:06 AM XXCoder: im willing to take more time, since thats way too expensive for me to save minutes on
07:07 AM pink_vampire: done
07:07 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/2QGM0Jk.png
07:07 AM XXCoder: nice
07:07 AM pink_vampire: 33 seconds!
07:11 AM jthornton: I'm very fast in SW
07:11 AM jthornton: so fast my partner can't even tell how I do it
07:11 AM pink_vampire: COOL!
07:11 AM pink_vampire: this is why I love solidworks
07:13 AM XXCoder: jt can always setup remote deskto[
07:13 AM jthornton: wouldn't that be kinda slow?
07:13 AM pink_vampire: no
07:13 AM jthornton: and painful
07:13 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is there a difference between your copy of mesaflash and micges'?
07:14 AM pink_vampire: I did some stuff using my phone and a BT mouse
07:14 AM jthornton: yes, Peter has improved mesaflash
07:14 AM Tom_L: yours is latest?
07:14 AM XXCoder: well screen woild be bit slow, but program would run full speed at your pc
07:14 AM jthornton: I have the latest version, micges seems to have disappeared
07:14 AM Tom_L: ok
07:15 AM jthornton: mine is the official one now
07:16 AM Tom_L: setting up my test ssd again and wanted to get the right one
07:18 AM Tom_L: mostly improved for spi?
07:22 AM Tom_L: 36°F Hi 63 and clear
07:27 AM jthornton: I think so
07:29 AM Tom_L: i need to remember what address i set my 7i80 to
07:30 AM Tom_L: been too long...
08:15 AM jthornton: wow freecad has improved a lot since the last time I looked at it
08:15 AM XXCoder: what was version you last used?
08:15 AM XXCoder: 0.13 I bet
08:17 AM jthornton: I don't remember it was quit a few years back
08:17 AM XXCoder: few years good chance it was 0.13
08:18 AM XXCoder: that was worst versipn
08:18 AM jthornton: 0.18 now
08:19 AM XXCoder: cam is still iffy
08:20 AM XXCoder: i forgot his nick but he was working on simulation aspect when he died
09:11 AM drdoc: buenos dias, señores
09:13 AM drdoc: XXCoder: have you used Fusion 360?
09:14 AM * drdoc is getting a handle on this HAL config biz
09:14 AM drdoc: ...maybe.
10:56 AM Deejay: re
11:44 AM _unreal_: Sweet looks to be no water leaking into the wall
11:45 AM _unreal_: been lots of on/off rain today
12:51 PM _unreal_: endless rain today
01:17 PM jthornton: 2 1/4" of rain so far today
01:18 PM jymmmm: jthornton: Got Ark? Remember... 2 chickens, side by side
01:18 PM * jymmmm imagines jthornton putting rain coats on the chickens =)
01:18 PM jthornton: I live above the high water mark lol
01:19 PM jthornton: chickens don't go out in the rain or snow
01:19 PM jthornton: well sometimes if they see some real tasty thing to eat
01:19 PM jymmmm: lol
01:19 PM jymmmm: jthornton: Do they just sit around the fireplace drinking hot chocolate?
01:21 PM andypugh: ls
01:21 PM andypugh: ls
01:22 PM andypugh: That would be the wrong window, then
01:22 PM jymmmm: ls -asl
01:23 PM jymmmm: OR... alias l='ls -asl'
01:23 PM jymmmm: =)
01:52 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:01 PM andypugh: Annoyingly I sudo apt-get upgraded my development Pi into non-functionality. (ie, over-wrote the realtime kernel)
02:06 PM jymmmm: andypugh: no backup?
02:10 PM andypugh: No
02:11 PM jymmmm: andypugh: bummer =( Do you have any uSD to USB adapters by chance?
02:13 PM alex_joni: the old kernel might still be there.. no chance with the bootloader?
02:13 PM jymmmm: Hey alex_joni ltns
02:13 PM alex_joni: hey jymmmm, too long
02:13 PM alex_joni: my bad
02:14 PM jymmmm: alex_joni: whatcha been up to?
02:14 PM alex_joni: loads.. mostly robots ;)
02:14 PM jymmmm: alex_joni: work or play?
02:14 PM alex_joni: play at work counts?
02:14 PM jymmmm: always =)
02:14 PM alex_joni: work, but fun
02:15 PM jymmmm: niiiice
02:15 PM alex_joni: been doing it for 20+ years this year, so it should be ;)
02:15 PM jymmmm: lol
02:15 PM jymmmm: I'm just waiting for the 3 day blackout to start SOMETIME today
02:16 PM alex_joni: 3 day blackout?
02:16 PM alex_joni: sounds like too much whiskey
02:16 PM jymmmm: Yeah, it'll effect 2 millionn ppl too
02:16 PM alex_joni: ouch, sounds serious
02:17 PM jymmmm: Yeah, PGE fucked up on the Kincade fire - they didn't shut off the HV transmissions lines
02:18 PM jymmmm: Updated: Oct 26, 2019 / 10:35 AM PDT Evacuation orders are now issued for 50,000 residents for the entire towns of Healdsburg and Windsor. Cal Fire says residents needs to be out of their homes by Saturday 4 p.m. The fire is expected to move towards Healdsburg Saturday night. Cal Fire says the Kincade Fire has burned more than 25,000 acres, destroyed 49 structures but is now threateni
02:18 PM jymmmm: ng thousands of homes. The fire is only 10 percent contained.
02:19 PM jymmmm: Currenly 12:12pm

02:21 PM alex_joni: ouch
02:44 PM _unreal_: memmories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8gqgybDLD8
02:49 PM _unreal_: jymmmm, better feed the hampster.... he's going to need some energy on that hampster wheel :) LOL
02:50 PM jymmmm: that's what th squirels are for
02:55 PM SpeedEvil: Plenty of squirrels available if you collect them from the fire front.
02:59 PM jymmmm: I went thru that hell already, not fun. Had to travel 2 hours away just to find a place to sleep
02:59 PM jymmmm: and that was after the 5 hours just to evacuate
03:03 PM flyback: good to eat
03:11 PM _unreal_: oh squirels... bigger more power I see
03:25 PM andypugh: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=tL6uDAAAQBAJ&pg=PT90&lpg=PT90#v=onepage&q&f=false
03:28 PM jymmmm: andypugh: Then this happens... https://i.imgur.com/X6BGHX9.jpg
03:31 PM _unreal_: ok
03:31 PM _unreal_: new motherboard
03:31 PM _unreal_: well old computer I have but new motherboard
03:31 PM _unreal_: just swapped the ram and CPU
03:31 PM _unreal_: now I have a core2quad WITH 8gb ram
03:31 PM _unreal_: I just have to @#$!Q#$^%!#@$%!@#$~!@#$%!#@$%@#$%~234 load windows and all my software AGAIN
03:31 PM _unreal_: 4th time
03:31 PM Tom_L: what was the problem?
03:32 PM _unreal_: I think that asus MB is just fucked
03:32 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, "desktop windows computer"
03:32 PM _unreal_: for doing cad
03:32 PM _unreal_: this laptop works fine but I'd prefer smoething with a bigger "set" if you will to do the cad
03:33 PM _unreal_: and this laptop has an old intel gpu
03:33 PM _unreal_: so the ram I ordered is working in the different motherboard JUST fine
03:33 PM _unreal_: the ASUS mb was a trade
03:33 PM _unreal_: I had traced back in ? 2012 a guy who I went to school with and lived close to me...
03:34 PM _unreal_: " very very dumb guy"
03:34 PM _unreal_: he's one of those people who just does everything worng and just DOSE NOT get it....
03:35 PM _unreal_: I'm very tired of the rain today
03:35 PM _unreal_: the good news is I really dont see any water comming into my room
03:35 PM _unreal_: so My fix fixed it more or less
03:35 PM _unreal_: and I didnt really fix it I just stopped the flower pot thing from being full of water nonstop
03:35 PM _unreal_: now it tries out quick
03:40 PM Deejay: gn8
04:25 PM JT-Shop: new GoldWings are ugly
04:25 PM jymmmm: are they?
05:22 PM XXCoder: jymmmm: just dont screw up on sex thing ;) https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2015/05/28/15/noah2.jpg?w968h681
05:23 PM XXCoder: funnier version https://arnoldzwicky.s3.amazonaws.com/UnicornArk.jpg
05:35 PM jymmmm: XXCoder: lol
05:35 PM CaptHindsight: we need to build some 50-100ft tall fire fighting robots
05:40 PM XXCoder: jymmmm: first was unironically a mistake in book. its... common mistake apparently.
05:40 PM jymmmm: lol
05:41 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: it need to transform from fire truck to walking giants? ;) hmm transform sounds familar
05:42 PM XXCoder: yay just got my mini collet. it'll make it so much easier to show people cnc stuff
05:46 PM andypugh: XXCoder: Like two cows, both with udders?
05:46 PM XXCoder: nah, its always lions
05:46 PM XXCoder: i dont know why tho lol
05:48 PM andypugh: Well, it’s probably not true anyway.
05:52 PM XXCoder: lol
05:53 PM XXCoder: andy hows things going on there
05:53 PM andypugh: I am trying to add the hal_gpio driver for Pi to LinuxCNC
05:53 PM XXCoder: rpi4?
05:54 PM XXCoder: i find that amazing that little board is now powerful enough for cnc machine now
05:54 PM _unreal_: I wish someone could produce a HAL/GPIO driver for the tinkerboard
05:54 PM _unreal_: the tinkerboard IS powerful enough to drive a cnc with lcnc
06:03 PM _unreal_: ? no one around?
06:03 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:03 PM * _unreal_ gets a beer
06:04 PM XXCoder: andy heh makes me feel I wasted my time saving my old pc I had converted to linuxcnc machine
06:05 PM _unreal_: ? interesting, the desktop seems to be booting win10? I swapped the motherboard but all the other hardware is the same, CPU/GPU everything
06:05 PM _unreal_: I'd laugh if win10 migrates to the new mb
06:05 PM _unreal_: functioning
06:05 PM XXCoder: it should work fine it dont reside in motherboard heh
06:05 PM jthornton: XXCoder, FreeCAD is not near the level of SolidWorks but it seems to be very usable if a bit slower to design a part due to the lack of constraints like mid point etc
06:06 PM andypugh: _unreal_: Machinekit seem to compile a hal_gpio based on the platform being compiled on. Pi, OrangePi, Beagelbone, CHIP, Zedboard
06:06 PM _unreal_: I think the other MB has a hardware issue? maybe a bad controller chip or something. then again the guy I got that pc from was a known moron
06:06 PM XXCoder: jt yeah people keep expecting $4000 worth in freecad, but it can do quite well for free software
06:07 PM _unreal_: andypugh, I dont know much about compiling.
06:07 PM andypugh: You would need to write a driver, of the same general shape as the others.
06:08 PM _unreal_: andypugh, I'm a lover not a coder
06:08 PM _unreal_: :)
06:08 PM _unreal_: going to see if I can get this thing to boot into safe mode
06:09 PM _unreal_: and wipe out the system hadrware
06:09 PM _unreal_: reboot and with luck it will re-find everything
06:09 PM XXCoder: jthornton: just got a bt10 collet :D
06:09 PM jthornton: I think FreeCAD is 1000% better than it used to be
06:09 PM XXCoder: it will make showing young people cnc stuff much easier.
06:10 PM XXCoder: jthornton: yep! its olvious your first one was cursed 0.13 LOL
06:10 PM roycroft: will freecad run on os x 10.15?
06:10 PM _unreal_: sweet I'm in, and in safe mode
06:10 PM XXCoder: roy just amke sure its 0.17 ot 0.18 not 0.13
06:16 PM roycroft: i have 0.17 installed on my imac currently, which is running 10.14
06:16 PM roycroft: i have too many apps to upgrade/replace before i can move to catalina
06:16 PM roycroft: i do have catalina installed in a vm, so as i'm testing my apps i can add freecad to the list
06:16 PM roycroft: it's probably going to be next year before i move to catalina on my production machines
06:16 PM roycroft: i got that chuck bored out, btw
06:16 PM roycroft: it mounts fine on the rotary table
06:16 PM roycroft: and the backing plate mounts on it just fine too
06:16 PM roycroft: so i'm happy
06:26 PM XXCoder: no plm its my fault :)
06:30 PM jthornton: roycroft, do a search for freecad 0.18 tutorials there is a 1h 10m that is pretty good
06:30 PM XXCoder: what does it teach?
06:31 PM jthornton: a good work practice afaict
06:31 PM XXCoder: nice
06:31 PM XXCoder: does it include cam?
06:31 PM jthornton: he must be german or something
06:32 PM jthornton: no just the design of a part from start to finish using the proper ways according to him anyway
06:32 PM XXCoder: 27 min and 20 min ones found, havebt found one you talked about yet
06:33 PM XXCoder: found ut
06:33 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1JG6l1uIJw
06:34 PM jthornton: yea that's the one
06:36 PM XXCoder: cool. it has autocaptions which sometimes dont work for more techinical stuff
06:39 PM jthornton: it seems to be a very complete tutorial for making a part for 3d printing
06:55 PM jthornton: say goodnight Gracy
06:55 PM Tom_L: jthornton
06:56 PM Tom_L: are you familiar with the leds on the 7i80?
07:36 PM andypugh: User LEDs? Or status leds/
07:46 PM Tom_L: both
07:46 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure linux sees the ethernet card
07:46 PM Tom_L: pcie
07:47 PM Tom_L: the leds all flash then just the pwr led stays on
07:48 PM Tom_L: i've had it working but not on this MB
07:52 PM pcw_home: Thats normal (newer firmware will blink the user LEDs one at a time)
07:52 PM Tom_L: yeah they flashed briefly in a row
07:53 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna try the onboard ethernet
08:08 PM taloot: guys.. i installed pcie lpt
08:08 PM taloot: it works but i cant see it in dmesg
08:09 PM taloot: as parport1 for example
08:17 PM andypugh: ca you see it with lspci ?
08:17 PM taloot: yes
08:17 PM taloot: ax99100 it work fine
08:17 PM andypugh: Is the fact that you can’t see it in dmesg a problem, or just an observation?
08:18 PM taloot: no not a problem.. except i thought i should see it
08:18 PM taloot: cat /proc/ioports
08:19 PM taloot: even there can see it
08:19 PM taloot: cant
08:21 PM andypugh: I don’t think that PCI devices are enumerated as ioports.
08:21 PM andypugh: (onboard p-ports don’t show up in lspci, conversely)
08:22 PM taloot: yes right
08:22 PM taloot: how can i see them all
08:22 PM taloot: dmesg also cant see them
08:22 PM taloot: except parport0
08:23 PM taloot: i though i will see parport1
08:24 PM andypugh: I have a machine with onboard + pci parports.
08:24 PM taloot: wheezy
08:25 PM andypugh: And to see the onboard I have to use cat /proc/ioports and to see the PCI one it is lspci -vv to get the ioaddr
08:26 PM andypugh: As far as I know (and I hardly use parports, the machine in question is for testing LinuxCNC) there is nothing that can find both types of port.
08:26 PM taloot: i did this and its good now
08:27 PM taloot: for plasma you need alot of pins
08:29 PM andypugh: On any system where I need a lot of pins I don’t use parports.
08:30 PM taloot: what do you usse?
08:30 PM andypugh: For Plasma you are probably better with something ethernet linked, as that has better isolation.
08:30 PM taloot: i have
08:31 PM andypugh: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=83_85&product_id=303
08:32 PM taloot: smoothness also important
08:32 PM andypugh: (I actually use the 5i24 PCI card on my machines, but the 7i92 would be a good choice for plasma)
08:32 PM taloot: i have same but with idc25+db25
08:32 PM andypugh: And a Mesa card generates pulses with an onboard FPGA, the steps are _far_ smoother than a parport.
08:33 PM andypugh: Ah, you have the 7i92M ?
08:33 PM taloot: yes
08:34 PM andypugh: If you need a lot of pins, you can add daughter cards to the 7i92
08:34 PM taloot: i will use chinese breakout board
08:34 PM taloot: 2
08:34 PM taloot: more than enough
08:34 PM andypugh: For example a 7i74 + 8 x 7i65 would have 384 GPIO pins…
08:35 PM andypugh: Anyway, it’s time for me to sleep.
08:36 PM taloot: nice talking to u..
08:56 PM flyback: drdoc,
08:56 PM flyback: I finished soldering them :)
08:56 PM flyback: now I just have to setup a win10 box to build the firmware
09:05 PM XXCoder: jthornton: got the collet, its bit bigger than I expected. I thought it was tiny one that I can hide in hand, like office mill one, but its like robodrill one
09:05 PM XXCoder: nice since it was so cheap and better for showing people
09:06 PM XXCoder: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000205005744.html
09:10 PM SpeedEvil: Is it more than approximately the right shape?
09:10 PM XXCoder: it wont go in any actual machine
09:10 PM XXCoder: so it doesnt really matter
09:11 PM flyback is now known as phlyback
09:11 PM SpeedEvil: What is the samller part?
09:13 PM phlyback is now known as flyback
09:13 PM XXCoder: its pull tab
09:13 PM XXCoder: its what machine uses to pull and hold collet in spindle
09:14 PM XXCoder: its seperate because it could get damaged, and theres various pull tab standards that use same collet taper
