05:50 AM taloot: is there any programmer can do somthnig for me in liinxcnc
05:50 AM taloot: i will pay for it... i have fiber laser and planing to build complete system like trump
05:50 AM jthornton: they all left the building
05:51 AM taloot: with nozzle changing
05:51 AM taloot: similar to ATC in milling
05:51 AM XXCoder: trump? as in president of usa?
05:51 AM taloot: no
05:51 AM taloot: german laser company
05:52 AM taloot: trumpf
05:52 AM XXCoder: ahh ok
05:52 AM taloot: are you programmer?
05:53 AM taloot: coder so i assume you are programmer
05:53 AM XXCoder: former more like lol
05:53 AM XXCoder: im been using xxcoder for long time
05:54 AM taloot: nice nick btw
05:54 AM XXCoder: thanks
05:54 AM taloot: im vey excited buildng this laser
05:56 AM taloot: wll cost me about 22k usd
05:56 AM taloot: but daily it makes 2500-3000 usd
05:57 AM XXCoder: that'd make up for cost pretty fast then
05:57 AM taloot: yes
05:57 AM taloot: they used it for home doors
05:57 AM taloot: a decorative
05:58 AM taloot: so if design my machiine... iwiill have better chance to win

06:16 AM _unreal_: sounds interesting, well I'm off towork
06:23 AM taloot: cnc is booming in saudi
06:23 AM taloot: u can gain lots of money here
06:23 AM XXCoder: probably but im few thousand miles away ;)

06:26 AM taloot: yes lol
06:26 AM taloot: machining shop... we can share in it
06:27 AM XXCoder: nah I like living here :)
06:27 AM taloot: alot of ppl fiind iit hard to relocate
06:27 AM taloot: some not
06:27 AM taloot: usa gr8 life
06:28 AM XXCoder: ehh depends
06:28 AM XXCoder: cost of living is very high here
06:28 AM XXCoder: and medical stuff really sucks
06:29 AM taloot: insurance
06:29 AM taloot: for medical
06:29 AM taloot: if u live in saudi ...
06:30 AM taloot: u will be tought man
06:30 AM XXCoder: insurance sucks even when its very good insurance like I do
06:30 AM taloot: whats ur maiin busness now
06:30 AM XXCoder: working for company lol
06:31 AM taloot: emplyee?
06:31 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:31 AM taloot: poor slave man
06:31 AM taloot: hehe
06:31 AM XXCoder: lol
06:31 AM taloot: 21th century slavery
06:32 AM taloot: took your life for little money
06:32 AM taloot: when you have your own busness,,, then you are free man
06:33 AM taloot: and you hire slaves
06:33 AM jthornton: free to go broke lol
06:33 AM taloot: but you should have yuour own busness
06:33 AM taloot: while you are emplyee as soon as you success you resign
06:34 AM taloot: alot of my friends did it already
06:34 AM XXCoder: your area must be in very high growth mode
06:34 AM taloot: yes right
06:34 AM jthornton: you sound like a used car salesman lol
06:34 AM taloot: hahah
06:35 AM XXCoder: here not so much though cnc stuff is pretty good, company I work at is chronically behind because so many jobs to run
06:35 AM taloot: just telliing you facts
06:35 AM taloot: thats why u better to relocate
06:35 AM taloot: for a year or so
06:35 AM taloot: then you can maage remotley
06:35 AM taloot: u try to find busness all over the world
06:36 AM jthornton: now it sounds like your selling vaporware lol
06:36 AM taloot: hehe
06:37 AM taloot: there alot of ppl likke you afraiid from relocating
06:38 AM taloot: even here.
06:38 AM XXCoder: not afraid. not interested thats all
06:38 AM taloot: hehe o
06:38 AM taloot: ok
06:38 AM jthornton: I've worked in Africa and not afraid and kindergarten logic does not work on me
06:38 AM taloot: hehehee
06:39 AM taloot: salesman not work
06:39 AM taloot: vaporware also doesnt wor
06:40 AM taloot: kindergarten also diiidint wor
06:40 AM taloot: work
11:15 AM jym: Morning folks!
11:17 AM t4nk_freenode: evenin.
11:59 AM gregcnc: just how hard are metric setscrews M4, and is red locitite on both the set screw and locking set screw necessary?
11:59 AM Tom_L: if you don't ever want it out
11:59 AM gregcnc: now i have 3 stripped set screws
12:01 PM jym: I heard you can use a torch, but wear a good respirator
12:02 PM jym: ...to break free that is.
12:04 PM gregcnc: I'm probably just putting this back together and fuck it it's it's a real problem. preventative maintenance my ass
12:05 PM * jym lol @ gregcnc
12:06 PM jym: gregcnc: I get it, I really do.
12:06 PM gregcnc: hmm. I probably have carbide die drill of the right size
01:46 PM JT-Shop: if you don't heat up red loctite you can't get it off
01:47 PM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: depends on the forces involved
01:47 PM Loetmichel: it IS less strong than steel (if only slightly) ;)
02:11 PM pcw_mesa: MarkusBec pcw_mesa: is it possible to modify a 7i77 to a 7i77D?
02:11 PM pcw_mesa: No, different PCBs
02:26 PM Choscura is now known as JewZeus
02:26 PM JewZeus is now known as Choscura
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: cheap or word hex keys tend to strip small hex sockets
02:41 PM miss0r: 'evening
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: word/worn
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: how's your night going?
02:42 PM miss0r: Better today than yesterday :)
02:42 PM miss0r: How'bout you?
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: so far so good
02:43 PM miss0r: I just ordered a new camshaft, 8 new tappet assemblys & new valve gear... The LR shat the bed X(
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: just got back from ordering parts from the STEALERSHIP myself
02:44 PM miss0r: :) I managed to find a machineshop in the UK that makes realy high quality parts
02:45 PM miss0r: I ordered from there; one) I can't afford genuine land rover. two) These are better quality anyway. three) the aftermarked sparepart stuff is mostly absolutly garbage, unless you purchase the absolut correct places
02:45 PM CaptHindsight: what are you rebuilding/fixing?
02:45 PM CaptHindsight: ah
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: yeah same for me with Toyota parts
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: lots of fake Chinese parts out there
02:46 PM miss0r: a roller was of poor quality/fit, so it started not rotating, causing damage to the surface. damage generating metal fragments, that damaged the cam & rockers and other stuff...
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: soft metals, cheap bearings
02:46 PM miss0r: yeah
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: i had a fan clutch last one day
02:47 PM miss0r: on an engine I just spend a small fortune restoring
02:47 PM miss0r: that is bad :)
02:47 PM CaptHindsight: wheel bearings <2k miles
02:47 PM miss0r: this made it 5k km
02:47 PM CaptHindsight: what happened to the engine?
02:47 PM miss0r: I hope nothing. :)
02:47 PM CaptHindsight: oh I see ^^
02:47 PM miss0r: "the rest of the engine" that is
02:48 PM miss0r: it shouldn't be able to make it into the bearings, if the oil filter did it job
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: not fun in the valve train
02:48 PM miss0r: so, I'm hoping it did
02:48 PM miss0r: nope - not fun at all :)
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: I'm rebuilding front and rear axles from rotor to rotor including the diffs
02:49 PM miss0r: lot'o work
02:49 PM miss0r: :)
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: all new brake parts, bearings, seals, gaskets, etc
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: yeah couple of days to get it all to spec
02:50 PM miss0r: if you have nothing else on your plate, yeah :)
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: the land cruiser diffs are adjustable without the need for shims
02:50 PM miss0r: Interresting
02:51 PM miss0r: the land rover could use that :D
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: https://dz310nzuyimx0.cloudfront.net/strapr1/b36f812abd79f7c83c5fcc3597592f35/390f7000769c58f75e9995ec18096a65.png
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: #7 and #8 are the adjusters
02:52 PM miss0r: what am I looking at here? Are they threaded on the inside or are they stepped?
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: threaded
02:53 PM miss0r: nice design
02:53 PM miss0r: I just feel lucky I have a surface grinder when I do that sort of job on a LR.. its all shimming
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: I had it apart 100K miles ago and the bearings and teeth looked really good
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: I just adjusted it and reassembled
02:54 PM miss0r: excellent :)
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: if they look good again I might just change bearings (310K Miles)
02:55 PM miss0r: toyota does make excellent cars, no questions.
02:55 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.matterhackers.com/store/l/basf-ultrafuse-316l-metal-composite-3d-printing-filament-175mm/sk/MRDKJRRS wacky
02:55 PM miss0r: They rust away long before they wear out mechanically
02:56 PM FleaFart is now known as LittleStinker

02:58 PM CaptHindsight: later this year I'll do some body work
02:59 PM miss0r: I hate body work
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: just few spots, lower door edges, wheel arches
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: I don't mind it in nice weather
02:59 PM miss0r: you and I both know a pin hole ends up covering a square foot
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: >30F <70F
03:00 PM miss0r: bah. I'll have to call it a night. I have an early morning. See you around
03:01 PM CaptHindsight: night'
03:01 PM Loetmichel: miss0r: i know that feeling... standing under the car: "ah, that pinhole will be welded shut fast..." set the mig gun on the hole, press the trigger... *RFFFTTT*
03:01 PM Loetmichel: ups... lets see where we got meat enough
03:01 PM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel: Well, the pinhole is gone, to be fair.
03:02 PM Loetmichel: *ending up welding 30cm in any direction*
03:03 PM Loetmichel: <- had to do a "scroll weld" about 2 hands in diameter once because no sheet steel left on a sunday evening...
03:04 PM Loetmichel: the look the TÜV engineer shot me when he stodd under the car the next day...
03:04 PM Loetmichel: :-)
03:04 PM Loetmichel: stood
03:04 PM SpeedEvil: :)
03:04 PM Loetmichel: TÜV= german road safety test
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: the nice thing about the USA is Arizona and Nevada for body parts
03:05 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: dry, no freezing, no humidity?
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: i can call a bone yard and them plasma cut whatever section I need and have it to me a couple of days
03:05 PM XXCoder: immortal cars there
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: yes
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: 0 rust
03:05 PM Loetmichel: yes, i am always in awe (and slightly envious) when i see the "barn find" videos on youtube
03:06 PM XXCoder: not quite zero. theres some hint of rain ;)
03:06 PM Loetmichel: '69 Ford F100... looks like new, nearly no rust.
03:06 PM Loetmichel: MAAAN that would be nice to have
03:07 PM Loetmichel: here in germany you are lucky to find a car thats older than 2000... and not a pile of rust in the brushed into the workshop corner
03:07 PM Loetmichel: - in the
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: my old 1966 https://imgur.com/evTawLz
03:08 PM Loetmichel: MAN , now i AM envious
03:09 PM Loetmichel: wrong company though ;)
03:09 PM Loetmichel: BTW: whats the gross weight of an F100?
03:10 PM Loetmichel: <- only has a drivers license up to 3.5 metric tons
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: https://imgur.com/8bzzAiJ I took a picture and then drew the lines for what I wanted cut
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: $50 for rust free wheel arches
03:11 PM Loetmichel: ahem... sign in required???
03:11 PM Loetmichel: where is that erotic???
03:11 PM Loetmichel: imgur, your algorithms are crap ;)
03:11 PM Loetmichel: nice bodywork though
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/8bzzAiJ.jpg
03:12 PM Loetmichel: i have seen the first one
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: not sure about the sign in required
03:12 PM Loetmichel: i just dont understand why imgur hat that flagged as "erotic"
03:12 PM Loetmichel: it said" login required because may contain erotic content"
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: hah, maybe my account got flagged
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: cnc pron
03:13 PM Loetmichel: the other pic didnt
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: who knows
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: 69 F100 3060 lbs | 1387.993 kg
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: light
03:15 PM SpeedEvil: I got warned for posting pictures of a robot.
03:15 PM SpeedEvil: But, it was a robot centaur.
03:15 PM Loetmichel: btw: do you guys thing thats a good price? -> https://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/dodge-ram-1500-3-9-l-magnum-v6-236cid-manual-klima-ahk-m%C3%BChlheim-am-main/280327367.html
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: same weight as https://auto.howstuffworks.com/1967-1969-pontiac-firebird2.htm
03:17 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: not a bad price
03:17 PM CaptHindsight: not a Dodge fan myself
03:17 PM Loetmichel: any idea how much MPG that thing gets?
03:18 PM Loetmichel: i would like an old 96 F100 better, but anything from THAT age is basically made of unobtanium here in germany
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: V6-236CID
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: not really sure, maybe 24mpg
03:19 PM Loetmichel: and i suppose not more than about 120mph?
03:19 PM Loetmichel: :-)
03:20 PM CaptHindsight: what year is that truck?
03:20 PM Loetmichel: 1996
03:20 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.dakotaforumz.com/showthread.php?t=2653
03:21 PM Loetmichel: 24mpg wouldnt be so bad. i drive my 2001 BMW 525i touring with about 21 mpg ;)
03:21 PM CaptHindsight: If you are getting 13-14 mpg city, that sounds about right and you should be able to get 19-20 mpg on the highway. ouch
03:22 PM Loetmichel: hmm
03:22 PM Loetmichel: ok, so long trips will be expensive. i see ;)
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: Slightly better mpg in europe.
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: But not for good reasons.
03:22 PM CaptHindsight: Best mpgs was 24, averaged probably around 21-22. Also keeping it around 65mph.
03:22 PM CaptHindsight: Got about 16mpg around town.
03:22 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: double taht for germany ;)
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: (the g is 10% bigger)
03:23 PM Loetmichel: <- is driving the BMW at about 140 to 150mph regularily ;)
03:23 PM Loetmichel: :-)
03:23 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.fuelly.com/car/dodge/ram_1500
03:24 PM Loetmichel: ah, 12mpg for the dodge on average... thats a BIT much ;)
03:24 PM Loetmichel: still considering buying such a truck... and be it just in spite of all the "ecofriendly" people around here
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: I get better in my Land Cruiser and it's 2.5 tons 2267.96Kg
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: how about "rolling coal"?
03:25 PM Loetmichel: no option in germany
03:25 PM Loetmichel: cant drive an (old) diesel into the citys any more
03:26 PM XXCoder: cuttinmg your nose off in spite of your face
03:26 PM Loetmichel: have to have an "euro 6d temp" engine to be allowed in citys here
03:26 PM Loetmichel: XXCoder: i need something to haul cargo
03:26 PM Loetmichel: thats why i drive the BMW touring at the moment
03:26 PM Loetmichel: but a pickup truck would be better
03:26 PM XXCoder: you specifically said in order to spite "ecofriendly" people
03:27 PM Loetmichel: yes, but i said and "be it just to..."
03:27 PM Loetmichel: there are other reasons as well ;)
03:27 PM XXCoder: ah so you did
03:27 PM CaptHindsight: I'd probably get small toyota pickup and swap engines and trans
03:27 PM XXCoder: nevermind let me back to getting ready to work lol
03:28 PM CaptHindsight: 7-8 speed transmission
03:28 PM Loetmichel: and there was a reason for the ""
03:28 PM CaptHindsight: easy to work on
03:28 PM Loetmichel: most of the loudest people yelling "you cant fly, you cant drive a big car, its not ecofriendly" do exactly that on a regular basis
03:28 PM Loetmichel: just my experience though
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: https://consumerguide.com/used/1990-94-toyota-pickup/
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: before OBD2
03:29 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: i like the looks of the american trucks. despite that the toyota landcruser/hilux and similar are insanely expensive here in europe
03:29 PM Loetmichel: even used
03:30 PM CaptHindsight: a shipping container can hold a few cars
03:30 PM CaptHindsight: how would germany handle imports from the 1990's?
03:30 PM CaptHindsight: could you even get plates and insurance?
03:31 PM Loetmichel: sure
03:31 PM Loetmichel: if the title is clear, no problem to my knowledge
03:31 PM CaptHindsight: USA title?
03:31 PM Loetmichel: yes
03:31 PM CaptHindsight: really
03:32 PM Loetmichel: you can get a german "Farzeugschein" with a clean us title
03:32 PM CaptHindsight: I'll send you truck bodies, you send me diesel engines
03:32 PM Loetmichel: you have to make a few modifications to pass "TUEV" though
03:32 PM CaptHindsight: finding and old VW or Mercedes diesel here is difficult
03:33 PM Loetmichel: the american "blinking brake lights" are not allowed in europe for example
03:33 PM Loetmichel: i think we have plenty of those here in germany
03:33 PM Loetmichel: usually with a car attached though ,)
03:33 PM XXCoder: I HATE brake/signal combos
03:34 PM XXCoder: sadly my car have that
03:34 PM CaptHindsight: gas here is cheaper now than diesel
03:35 PM CaptHindsight: ~$2.65/gal lately for regular unleaded gas with 10% ethanol
03:36 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.gasbuddy.com/GasPriceMap?z=4
03:36 PM Loetmichel: hrhr
03:36 PM Loetmichel: lucky you
03:37 PM XXCoder: capt I live at usa corner I call gas ripoff corner
03:37 PM Loetmichel: we pay about 1,5 eur per liter E10
03:37 PM CaptHindsight: since they started fracking
03:37 PM XXCoder: frack fracking
03:37 PM XXCoder: $3.45 a gal here
03:38 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_gnd_dcus_nus_w.htm
03:40 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: E10 is about 6,35$ per gallon here... any quetions why i asked about MPG?
03:40 PM Loetmichel: :-)
03:41 PM Loetmichel: premuim unleaded closer to $8 per gallon
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: we got up to ~$4-5/gal a few years ago
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: that was the highest ever
03:42 PM XXCoder: heh good thing you guys have shorter transit times
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: how high were prices back in 2015 ish?
03:43 PM XXCoder: erm cant remember lol
03:43 PM XXCoder: expensive though
03:44 PM Loetmichel: i stand corrected: premium 100 roz is only $7 per gallon
03:44 PM XXCoder: 2014 was worse actually
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.researchhistory.org/2012/05/13/american-gas-prices-history/
03:44 PM Loetmichel: just had to calculate it ;)
03:44 PM XXCoder: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=EMM_EPMRU_PTE_Y48SE_DPG&f=W

03:44 PM Deejay: gn8
03:45 PM CaptHindsight: I remeber counting change to see how many gallons my few quarters would get me
03:45 PM Loetmichel: night Deejay
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: heh, someone called earlier to let me know that they offer CNC services
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: "you too!"
04:04 PM Choscura is now known as JewZeus
04:04 PM JewZeus is now known as Choscura
05:40 PM _unreal_: hello
05:47 PM Centurion_Dan: o/
05:50 PM Centurion_Dan: I have at my disposal some flying probe testers (4 simultaneous contact points). I wondered if LinuxCNC would bend to being used for PCB testing purposes...
05:52 PM Centurion_Dan: Basically there are 4 separate XYZ heads 2 for each side of the PCB, and the only constriant is that the heads on the same side of the PCB can't passe each other on the X axis.
05:53 PM CaptHindsight: Centurion_Dan: it could be used to control the position of the probes
05:53 PM Centurion_Dan: The other thing to consider is if LinuxCNC can handle the continuity test between probes and provide a pass fail for each set of test points.
05:53 PM CaptHindsight: you could also sync electrical tests with motion
05:54 PM CaptHindsight: position the probe, run test, position the probe......
05:55 PM CaptHindsight: your CAM or g-code generation would juts have to account for the heads not being in the same space at the same time
05:55 PM CaptHindsight: juts/just
05:55 PM CaptHindsight: or passing through each other
05:56 PM CaptHindsight: what types of motors are controlling the probes? steppers or servos?
05:57 PM Centurion_Dan: That's what I was thinking. These m/c's (I have 2 of them available) are already setup to be parallel port driven, but I haven't looked into what sort of hardware interface. Looks like stepper motors, but I haven't looked closely. I'd figure that they're built in the early to mid 2000's based on the age of the old PC's driving them.
05:58 PM CaptHindsight: belt drives on a Cartesian platform?
05:59 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xunyJwjKl0
05:59 PM gregcnc: does grainger offer better prices if you register?
06:00 PM CaptHindsight: heh, grainer and better pricing. LOL
06:01 PM CaptHindsight: not that I am aware unless it is some sort of volume price or sale
06:01 PM gregcnc: MSC has different prices if you're logged in
06:01 PM gregcnc: OK
06:01 PM CaptHindsight: Grainger is always known for having it in stock somewhere, whatever it is but the price is 2-3x of others
06:02 PM CaptHindsight: i shop their site for deals on fasteners
06:02 PM CaptHindsight: they have $1/box overstock clearance sales
06:02 PM gregcnc: I'm still chasing motor bearings.
06:02 PM gregcnc: huh wow
06:03 PM CaptHindsight: tried VBX?
06:03 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.vxb.com/
06:04 PM gregcnc: amazon has what I need, just not right away
06:04 PM CaptHindsight: what bearing?
06:05 PM gregcnc: would have been faster to order from the UK last week.
06:05 PM CaptHindsight: I used to find one bearing of each that I need on Amazon for a discount price
06:06 PM CaptHindsight: like here's one for cheap but you're gonna pay a lot more for more than 1
06:06 PM gregcnc: I'd like to get SKF JEM series, but any electric motor quality would be OK. they all spec high temp grease
06:06 PM roycroft: i finally got an account set up with grainger that they were happy with, and then they closed the eugene branch
06:06 PM roycroft: so they continue to be useless :)
06:06 PM jdh: I can direct order grainger from work. some of the prices are reasonable after going through our portal
06:07 PM gregcnc: I can't understand why the bearings in this spindle motor are bad, but I don't want to tear this machine apart if high temp is an absolute req.
06:07 PM roycroft: 2-3x the price of others is pretty standard from my experience
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: they have lots of warehouses
06:07 PM roycroft: they cost even more than msc
06:07 PM roycroft: but my biggest issue with them is that they refused to sell to me
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: but, they have it in stock somewhere
06:07 PM roycroft: now it doesn't matter
06:07 PM roycroft: yeah, "somewhere"
06:08 PM gregcnc: right If i ordered earlier would be here tomorrow by gnd
06:08 PM roycroft: but at their prices, they can never be anything but a vendor of last resort when you aboulutely need something right now
06:08 PM jdh: I bought a slightly odd replacement flashlight for work. $95ish from grainger with our discount. $19 on amazon but I can't order from there
06:08 PM roycroft: and if i can't drive over and get the parts they aren't even that
06:08 PM CaptHindsight: i do similar sometimes, you forget and now it's $50 for 2-day or $90 for overnight
06:08 PM CaptHindsight: when it could have been $7 for 3-4 day
06:09 PM gregcnc: if time shopping around costs you less than paying upfront.....
06:09 PM roycroft: it's not even "how much do i save if i overnight it"
06:09 PM roycroft: it's "how much money do i lose if i don't have it right NOW"
06:09 PM roycroft: that's the only time i could justify trying to buy from them
06:09 PM gregcnc: I already went through that with a local vendor that wasn't listneing
06:09 PM CaptHindsight: McMaster is an hours drive
06:09 PM gregcnc: and ahd the worng parts waiting after I drove
06:10 PM CaptHindsight: but I still avoid them, prices are 1.5-2x
06:10 PM gregcnc: oddly mcmaster material isn't terrible
06:10 PM roycroft: mcmaster are about 7 1/2 hours from here
06:10 PM roycroft: 9 hours starting in a couple weeks
06:10 PM roycroft: winter is coming :)
06:11 PM roycroft: mcmaster are generally slightly higher prices than the competition, but not outrageously so like grainger
06:11 PM roycroft: and they have more useful line items than almost any other vendor
06:11 PM CaptHindsight: it's getting more difficult to find good bearings
06:12 PM gregcnc: in the case of bearings i wish mcmaster were clear on mfg and actual callout
06:12 PM roycroft: where mcmaster get you is on shipping, if you only order a few items
06:12 PM CaptHindsight: the Chinese are making clones with soft metal
06:12 PM roycroft: so i try to batch my purchases from them
06:12 PM gregcnc: yeah, normally i'd buy ebay or whatever, but I don't want to take this all apart again
06:12 PM jthornton: I buy a lot from mcmaster, their fasteners are made in the USA
06:12 PM CaptHindsight: and there is Fastenal
06:13 PM jthornton: with chinese stuff
06:13 PM CaptHindsight: the warehouse up in Wi is 1 day away
06:13 PM jthornton: we have a local fastenal
06:13 PM roycroft: just buy timkin
06:13 PM roycroft: timken
06:13 PM CaptHindsight: a few closed down around here
06:13 PM gregcnc: there are three here?
06:14 PM CaptHindsight: McHenry is closed
06:14 PM roycroft: fastenal are shite
06:14 PM gregcnc: if i could get Timken easily i would
06:14 PM CaptHindsight: cary is still open, or was recently
06:14 PM roycroft: the local one is full of rude people, their stuff is expensive, and they don't stock very much
06:14 PM roycroft: i think skf are still made in usa
06:15 PM gregcnc: the bearing house I went to didn't even try to find somethign suitable in stock, just sorry
06:15 PM CaptHindsight: heh, sounds about right, but they did offer to have someone stop by every week or two to top off my fastener bins
06:15 PM gregcnc: bearings even in the same brand could be made anywhere
06:15 PM roycroft: only if your fastener bins contain what they deem worthy of stocking
06:15 PM CaptHindsight: search for a US or Japanese brand on alibaba
06:16 PM jthornton: lol they sell metal by the inch...
06:16 PM sync: tbh I don't care where the bearing is made as long as it works
06:16 PM CaptHindsight: it will be some ChinaCo with the brand in the pic
06:16 PM CaptHindsight: and i dobt they importn from USA or japan
06:16 PM roycroft: if you care that it works then you should care where it's made :)
06:16 PM gregcnc: excactly sync SKF, NTN, NSK, FAG, Timken as long as they are real
06:17 PM roycroft: of course, the best bearings are made in space
06:17 PM roycroft: but they are very very expensive
06:17 PM roycroft: and impossible to source
06:17 PM gregcnc: great space bearings
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.ntnamericas.com/en/contact-us/locations
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: Head Office
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: 1600 E. Bishop Court, P.O. Box 7604,
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: Mount Prospect, IL 60056-7604
06:18 PM gregcnc: I do wonder about some of the smaller co though. Koyo, Nachi, ORS, etc. Though I've used Koyo and Nachi
06:18 PM gregcnc: drove by the other day, was tempted to raid the warehouse
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.bdiexpress.com/us/en
06:19 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.bearingheadquarters.com/
06:19 PM gregcnc: bearings headqaurters are teh idiots I dealt with on friday
06:20 PM CaptHindsight: SKF USA Inc 425 N Martingale Rd # 1060
06:20 PM CaptHindsight: (847) 742-7840
06:20 PM CaptHindsight: ahh
06:21 PM CaptHindsight: most of the automation dealers around here don't have a clue
06:21 PM CaptHindsight: they are listed as a dealer for lead and ballscrews but they don't know the difference
06:22 PM CaptHindsight: I have to give them exact part numbers to get pricing
06:22 PM gregcnc: i gave them exact parts numbers
06:23 PM CaptHindsight: ok so bearings headqaurters is out
06:24 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: I'd send an email to their corporate office
06:24 PM CaptHindsight: let them know how you gave them exact part numbers and they dropped the ball
06:24 PM gregcnc: I did email
06:24 PM CaptHindsight: and you let other companies know about how they treated you
06:24 PM gregcnc: oh well
06:24 PM CaptHindsight: maybe they just suck
06:25 PM CaptHindsight: I see thesde suppliers all the time and i wonder what keeps them in business
06:25 PM gregcnc: 8x margins on a 5$ bearing
06:25 PM CaptHindsight: maybe they sell to some large accounts historically and thats all they can really do
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: this are used to be full of industry and tech
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: not so much anymore
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: are/area
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: i ordered a anti-backlash nut from a Tompson disti nearby
06:26 PM gregcnc: I still shoudl try calling Dreisilker back they stock NTN
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: they had no clue what it was
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: they sounded more like a plumbing supply house
06:28 PM CaptHindsight: or janitorial supplies
06:28 PM gregcnc: I looked at a house in town a while back. the guy was an SKF rep, might try calling him too
06:28 PM gregcnc: hah
06:30 PM gregcnc: what odd about this is that electric motor quality bearings basically all spec the same thing higher quality, C3 clearance, and high temp grease, but they aren't really mentioned in general catalogs
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.nationalprecision.com/
06:30 PM gregcnc: Timken and FAG say their standard stock meets these specs
06:32 PM gregcnc: but it seems like it has to be recent stock, as older inventory doesn't, oh and an authorized dealer of course
06:40 PM CaptHindsight: how fast does it spin and what is the HP?
06:41 PM _unreal_: time to go food shopping
06:41 PM gregcnc: 10k rpm, 5 hp
06:41 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, then it matters more
06:41 PM gregcnc: if it was 60hz i wouldn't be thinking about it

06:47 PM CaptHindsight: do fish sleep?
06:53 PM bjorkintosh: why not?
06:54 PM CaptHindsight: they don't have beds
06:54 PM CaptHindsight: or pillows
06:54 PM gregcnc: well Nemo had to wake up his dad to get him to school, so I vote yes
06:55 PM roycroft: what if nemo was adopted and his father was not a fish?
06:56 PM CaptHindsight: now you're on shaky territory with this interspecies parenting
06:56 PM LittleStinker is now known as FleaFart
06:57 PM CaptHindsight: like transgender chicken at chick-filet
06:57 PM roycroft: bah
06:58 PM roycroft: that doesn't matter
06:58 PM roycroft: we're all just people
06:58 PM roycroft: even fishies

07:02 PM CaptHindsight: They can travel across land and live out of water for at least three days
08:21 PM jym: CaptHindsight: I'm guessing the kill on site doens't require a fishing license.
