12:41 AM drdoc: CaptHindsight: Via suffers the worst Nephew Syndrome I ever saw
12:45 AM XXCoder: new clickspring video!!
12:45 AM XXCoder: whats nephew synome?
12:45 AM drdoc: This is my nephew. Pay him to pretend he's working
12:45 AM XXCoder: ah
12:45 AM XXCoder: i would use networking to help nephew to have a job, but he better do actual work
12:46 AM drdoc: I ran a network of HP/UX systems for them from 2009 to 2015
12:47 AM drdoc: the pa-risc boxes were in Hsinchu, and I never saw the damn things
02:02 AM Deejay: moin
05:02 AM miss0r: g'day
05:08 AM XXCoder: hey
05:37 AM Tom_L: morning
05:41 AM jthornton: morning
05:49 AM tommylight: anyone ?
05:49 AM jthornton: yo
05:49 AM tommylight: sup JT?
05:49 AM jthornton: first sips of coffee
05:49 AM tommylight: Site working ?
05:50 AM jthornton: yes both of them now
05:50 AM tommylight: Nice, i can not drink coffee anymore !
05:50 AM tommylight: good
05:51 AM jthornton: still need to transfer my personal site then I'm done with webhost4life
05:51 AM tommylight: ok
05:52 AM tommylight: i was using hostgator till 2012 i think
05:52 AM tommylight: hosting was very good
05:52 AM tommylight: just do not register domains there
05:53 AM tommylight: they use someone else for that, and those a$$ locked two of my domains, wanted 25000$ for them
05:53 AM tommylight: brb
05:53 AM jthornton: damn
06:01 AM XXCoder: wow
06:11 AM tommylight: me is back
08:29 AM elmo40: anyone use Win10? check this app out
08:29 AM elmo40: https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater
11:20 AM * extor is setting up a makerbot clone with a dual MK10 extruder that is missing something called a turbofan baffle, evidently a shroud that funnels air onto the left extruder so that it prints PLA nicely whilst the right extruder prints ABS without shroud cooling. Can the printer safely print PLA with this missing part? https://flashforge-usa.com/products/extruder-turbo-fan?variant=5344986529830
11:56 AM drdoc: extor: the PLA will sag some without that baffle. PLA needs active cooking as it prints to keep the detail sharp
12:42 PM gregcnc: LolLz needs some anti-spark https://youtu.be/QcmYNKNX8sk?t=86
01:22 PM extor: drdoc, but that baffle seems to be actively cooling, not cooking the part of the extruder that it is diverting air to
01:32 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: I like the alley/street
01:38 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEn1YEZ8iZ0 mount vertically for painting walls
01:45 PM MacGalempsy: yo
02:03 PM jthornton: ho
02:05 PM MacGalempsy: a pirate's life for me
02:28 PM jym: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIiXqyoxZEA
02:49 PM Loetmichel: grumpf... just destroyed one of my "fritzfon" DECT mobiles... it didnt like that i tried to externally charge its NimH battery with the phone still active... :-( (its a dean short at the battery terminals now)
02:49 PM Loetmichel: dead
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: jym: new hobby?
02:58 PM MacGalempsy: hey Cap
02:58 PM MacGalempsy: make any cool machines this week?
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: just working on printers for sand molds and patterns
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: DLP/LCD stuff
03:06 PM MacGalempsy: have you messed around with nanodlp?
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: yes, it's crap
03:07 PM MacGalempsy: how recently have you tried it?
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: we'd help the dev but he won't open source it
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: earlier today
03:08 PM MacGalempsy: ah, ok. I follow the facebook group. very few seem to get results
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: I'm using a copy right now until i have LCNC doing what nanodlp should correctly
03:08 PM MacGalempsy: are you using linuxcnc?
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: it works, it's just crappy on x86
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: and 4K video on the Rpi3 and 4 is not stable
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: its also really slow
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: the dev just makes stuff up on the forums
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: we had issues with getting it behave on x86
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: he was no help, he doesn't understand how X works
03:10 PM MacGalempsy: the secret is to add two more X
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: he doesn't post change logs either
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: just new versions with the same filename as the last
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: he randomly posts updates with random changes
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: no way to track what works and what doesn't
03:12 PM MacGalempsy: i noticed that, too
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: he might fix one bug and introduce 2 others
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: or fix a bug and leave out a feature
03:13 PM MacGalempsy: have you heard if anyone is making a linuxcnc module for dlp?
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: he also tracks you if you use a Rpi
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: I am
03:13 PM MacGalempsy: at first you had my curiousity, now you have my attention
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FscYq5uCys0 Andy did some basic HAL things a few years ago
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: I have to combine DLP/LCD with inkjets and other things so...
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: nanodlp aint gonna do it
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: all I'm doing is getting slices of SVG's to be displayed synchronized to motion
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: so you can do layerless prints as well
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/zvxoHUT this uses a 4K projector, 21 x 12" print area
03:19 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/QoVC0eR 12" wide linear positioner
03:20 PM CaptHindsight: can print sand molds almost as quick as resins
03:25 PM MacGalempsy: like one time use sand molds?
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: yes
03:25 PM MacGalempsy: sand sourced from a local river bar?
03:26 PM MacGalempsy: heh, jk
03:26 PM CaptHindsight: heh, washed and dried
03:26 PM CaptHindsight: and sized
03:26 PM MacGalempsy: did I tell you about the sand mine in south texas?
03:27 PM CaptHindsight: no, do tell
03:28 PM MacGalempsy: this town was tired of the local park being used as a ORV park and all the mess involved, so they sold it to a couple of brothers for like $30 or 40k.
03:28 PM MacGalempsy: the brothers were approached with an offer for $30million, so they sold. and 6 months later they were told it flipped for $300million
03:28 PM MacGalempsy: frac sand
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: check your sand
03:29 PM MacGalempsy: my boss had an offer for $90million for his land, but they backed off when the industry started slowing down
03:30 PM MacGalempsy: for a long time, most of that frac sand came from up in your neck of the woods
03:30 PM MacGalempsy: well, minnesota
03:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/zKNtBAg
03:40 PM CaptHindsight: refractory sand mixes vary depending on how they make the molds
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: I just mix readily available clean, dry and screened sand with my photopolymers
03:41 PM MacGalempsy: so the sand is added and spread like an sls?
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: yes
03:41 PM MacGalempsy: that sounds pretty cool
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: faster and lower cost than inkjet and higher reliability
03:41 PM MacGalempsy: any examples of what you have made, so far?
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: no clogged nozzles
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: no pics yet
03:54 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/IvelAIb you can see the res of the cheap sand here
03:55 PM MacGalempsy: that looks like a good start.
03:56 PM MacGalempsy: you think you will be able to do something like an intake manifold mold?
04:12 PM CaptHindsight: with finer sand you can obviously make finer details
04:12 PM CaptHindsight: oh yeah
04:12 PM CaptHindsight: no problem for intakes or exhausts
04:13 PM CaptHindsight: with water soluble resins we can make investments with features down to the few microns
04:14 PM MacGalempsy: the photopolymer waxes are pretty cool, no sand required
04:14 PM CaptHindsight: $3 per bag clean and dry sand can make intake manifolds
04:15 PM MacGalempsy: how about a tommy gun :D
04:15 PM CaptHindsight: http://bucktownpolymers.com/ror00.html no wax in this one, all photopolymer
04:16 PM MacGalempsy: thats pretty cool
04:17 PM MacGalempsy: no breaker required, just hot water
04:17 PM CaptHindsight: everyone wants low cost
04:17 PM CaptHindsight: they care far less about open
04:19 PM Deejay: gn8
04:22 PM CaptHindsight: getting these projects out of the way before I go back to DNA synthesis
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: MacGalempsy: https://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/concrete-cement-masonry/bagged-concrete-cement-mortar/all-purpose-dried-sand-60-lb/1891090/p-1506407329497.htm
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: the sand used
04:23 PM skunkworks: 2ms base thread on the rpi4 seems stable..
04:24 PM MacGalempsy: got to love that cost
04:25 PM CaptHindsight: use the finer stuff when you have to and pay extra
04:26 PM CaptHindsight: https://store.brickwoodovens.com/silica-sand $109/bag
04:27 PM CaptHindsight: 100 lbs vs 60
04:31 PM CaptHindsight: MacGalempsy: geologically, what produced the finer sands? Ancient sea beds?
06:23 PM jthornton: down to <12h of sunlight here today
06:38 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:38 PM _unreal_: SOOOOO tired
06:39 PM _unreal_: just finished changing the breaks on my mazda... sucks a pathetic work out to change them. My old truck took a hammer and a and a screw driver DONE
06:39 PM _unreal_: my mazda, takes a hammer, alen keys, sockets, open wrenches, and a special compression tool
06:40 PM _unreal_: just to change the breaks
06:43 PM jthornton: mazda just doesn't give you any brakes...
06:45 PM jthornton: XXCoder, just did a couple of pass through RJ45's and I'm liking them a lot
06:45 PM XXCoder: I bet!
06:45 PM jthornton: second one I did I had the brown pair backwards and it was easy to spot
06:46 PM XXCoder: yeah its so riciously easy to detect and fix
06:46 PM XXCoder: and you dont have to trim to size before insert too so its still full length therefore easy to fix
06:46 PM jthornton: takes a little fiddling to get the wires through the hole but worth the effort
06:47 PM jthornton: yea the trimmer just works great
06:48 PM XXCoder: yeah
06:53 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
07:05 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
07:13 PM _unreal_: pass through rj45's?
07:13 PM _unreal_: signal wire/data wire?
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: yes
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: fer goin thru enclosure walls
07:16 PM _unreal_: wow I am REALLLY beat
07:33 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: its much easier to use type of rj45
07:33 PM XXCoder: you push wires arranged in proper way though rj45 and t sticks out of front of rj45
07:33 PM XXCoder: then you check it, crimp it and cut exess off
07:34 PM XXCoder: done.
07:34 PM _unreal_: I have rj11 setup as my limit switches wire runs :)
07:35 PM _unreal_: sigh I'm re-milling one of the arms for my daughters CNC again. one of them is to tight?
07:38 PM andypugh: If your daughter has her own CNC, can’t she make her own parts?
07:43 PM jesseg: lol
07:43 PM jesseg: reminds me of when I was a kid
07:43 PM _unreal_: I'm setting her up with one to use a pen
07:43 PM _unreal_: when I get it working
07:43 PM _unreal_: the design is one
07:43 PM jesseg: trying to build an oscilloscope..
07:43 PM _unreal_: done
07:43 PM _unreal_: just some of the parts of come out "off" and i'm not sure why
07:44 PM jesseg: I kept running into problems and realized I needed an oscilloscope to finish the project so I started building a second.
07:44 PM _unreal_: been trying to see if I had errors in my code? in my cad drawing etc..?
07:44 PM jesseg: I ended up starting 3 of them. finally I bought one
07:45 PM _unreal_: if this new part comes out "off" as well then I'm going to be really pissed off. but I think it was poor quality and maybe some lots steps
07:45 PM jesseg: that's why I don't like steppers :P
07:46 PM _unreal_: no argument
07:46 PM _unreal_: had more to do with BAD bits though
07:47 PM jesseg: Do two half-bits make a whole bit?
07:48 PM _unreal_: not if one has been bitten
07:48 PM jesseg: haha
07:48 PM _unreal_: oh these mini pumps I purchased work FANTASTIC
07:48 PM _unreal_: they pull 25Hg
07:48 PM _unreal_: and they TINY run on 12v
07:49 PM _unreal_: they are diaphragm based
07:49 PM _unreal_: I hate to do it but I'm running the machine a little slower then I need to. but I just want to be sure
07:50 PM _unreal_: 1 hour to go
07:50 PM _unreal_: not bad
07:58 PM CaptHindsight: Sand casting simulation with ProCAST and QuikCAST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFpLYUOJuTY
08:00 PM CaptHindsight: andypugh: have you had issues with how to locate gates with your sand molds?
08:00 PM CaptHindsight: locate/position
08:01 PM andypugh: Well, until today I would have said “I have never had to worry about gates, I just give the pattern to the foundry and they decide where the gates go”
08:02 PM andypugh: But, today I did actually do some sand casting myself, though only casting pewter.
08:02 PM andypugh: (Up to now I have cast the pewter either in cast iron moulds, or in open-top sand moulds)
08:15 PM _unreal_: sigh. 30min left to mill
08:27 PM XXCoder: andypugh: wouldnt pewler be castable in wood case?
08:27 PM andypugh: Yes
08:29 PM XXCoder: cool :)
08:29 PM XXCoder: one of my plans is to try pewler on cnc machined wood casts
