#linuxcnc Calendar
12:33 AM elmo40: i plug it in and don't see any activity. only the power light comes on.
12:37 AM elmo40: maybe i'll check the card and see if it was zapped or something
12:42 AM XXCoder: yeah is there any recover mode or something where you can see error in logs etc
01:40 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ1fix58ilM SLA by myfordboy
02:20 AM Deejay: moin
03:15 AM Roedy86 is now known as Roedy
04:26 AM Loetmichel: *giggle* ... coworker just had to grind a nice 80 grit finish onto a big sheet of alu with a handheld belt sander... baaad galling... so i took the other side, loads of water/alc/dish detergent and tried again... perfect finish. but my trousers look like i had peed myself now ;)
04:53 AM jym: gmorning
05:03 AM Tom_L: morning
05:12 AM jym: Cleaned all the gutters, about killed my back, lol
05:12 AM XXCoder: thats always fun
05:12 AM jym: Especialy on a nice slippery snow roof
05:13 AM XXCoder: lol we had heavy snow this year, but it lasted all of week and half
05:13 AM jym: No snow yet, but just a couple drops of water and I had ZERO traction
05:14 AM Tom_L: garden hose extension doesn't work?
05:15 AM jym: Tom_L: not even close. had leaf blower and a long pole, still jammed with 4" if compacted pine needles
05:16 AM Tom_L: put covers over em?
05:17 AM Tom_L: http://www.rain-gutter-guide.com/gutter-leaf-protection.html
05:17 AM XXCoder: theres special covers that "spit" even pine leaves but abuses physics of water to curve it into gutter
05:17 AM jym: the pine needles jam the holes, so many others arund here have already tried that
05:18 AM Tom_L: my inlaw found some bristle brush thing that works
05:18 AM jym: XXCoder: I've seen that, but I thuought those wee actually formed into the gutter itself when fabricated
05:19 AM jym: Thats why I was tlaking about removing the end of the gutter and placing a 4" pvc pipe
05:19 AM XXCoder: Tom_L: nice summary. didnt think of yellowjackets and etc
05:19 AM Tom_L: https://www.leaffilter.com/blog/home-exteriors/roofing-gutters/best-gutter-guards-pine-needles/
05:20 AM Tom_L: surgical mesh
05:20 AM XXCoder: paper wasps is most annoying here
05:22 AM jym: I was thinking window screen over the gutters, just not sure how well that would work when it snows
05:23 AM XXCoder: I remember theres system to heat roof ends
05:23 AM XXCoder: so it cant block gutters with snow. flaw is that if power goes out it might leave water to ice up
05:24 AM XXCoder: it heats area to 40f, which indically happen to be just above freezing
05:27 AM jym: Oh yeah, almost fucking forgot... sometime today there's suppose to be a 24 to 48 hr black out
05:27 AM XXCoder: "yay"
05:27 AM jym: exactly
05:28 AM XXCoder: charge stuff up
05:29 AM jym: I have the generator, but not big enough for the HVAC and stove
05:31 AM jym: I have to get a clamp on ampmeter, I think the 110V circuits are not "balanced" across both sides of the 220, keeps popping the circuit breaker on the generator periodically
05:32 AM jym: pinky!!!!
05:32 AM XXCoder: yo
05:32 AM pink_vampire: hi
05:32 AM sync: sounds like you need to get a bigger genset
05:33 AM pink_vampire: hi jym!
05:33 AM pink_vampire: hi XXCoder
05:34 AM pink_vampire: sync: what do you mean?
05:34 AM XXCoder: how goes stuff
05:34 AM jym: sync: I don't think that's it, I think it's just not balanced
05:36 AM pink_vampire: what is the smallest GT2 Pulley?
05:36 AM pink_vampire: 16 teeth?
06:30 AM XXCoder: i hate being sick and weak
06:30 AM XXCoder: just showering took a lot out of em
06:30 AM XXCoder: me
06:44 AM pink_vampire|2: XXCoder: poor you
06:44 AM pink_vampire|2: someone know about lefty microwave?
06:45 AM XXCoder: huh? lefty microwave?
06:45 AM pink_vampire|2: yes
06:45 AM pink_vampire|2: I need one that open from left to right
06:45 AM XXCoder: check this out pink https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdJ4SkbVVUg
06:45 AM XXCoder: ahh door
06:46 AM XXCoder: lemme see if any left hand microwave exists. for counter or mount on top?
06:47 AM pink_vampire|2: XXCoder: I saw that video
06:47 AM XXCoder: cool :)
06:47 AM jthornton: turn it upside down
06:49 AM XXCoder: might have found some for you pink https://roccommunitysummit.org/relatively-right-handed-microwave-kq75.hta
06:49 AM XXCoder: and some is handle top down so it works either way
06:50 AM XXCoder: hm didnt find left hand
06:50 AM XXCoder: its just upside down, though it might have rotatary stuff on both sides
06:54 AM XXCoder: ohh something I can do once I evenually am able to setup my machine again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qxgigx2GJc
07:03 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: just buy one at walmart
07:03 AM XXCoder: lol
07:04 AM pink_vampire: I did the Z axis
07:04 AM pink_vampire: now I'm working on the X and Y
07:04 AM XXCoder: building already? or modeling?
07:04 AM pink_vampire: an I'm not sure how I want to drive it
07:04 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: still in modeling phase
07:05 AM XXCoder: what materials plan to cut?
07:05 AM pink_vampire: soft sheet material
07:05 AM XXCoder: double belt maybe
07:05 AM pink_vampire: cutting area of 2' X 4'
07:05 AM pink_vampire: you mean H bot?
07:06 AM XXCoder: a second
07:06 AM XXCoder: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/47/57/37/4757374f7842375071cfda7c248e2fa9.jpg
07:06 AM XXCoder: notice that it has 2 belts
07:07 AM pink_vampire: why 2?
07:07 AM XXCoder: it helps lock movement used belt from moving around with sideforce
07:07 AM XXCoder: with cheap non-timing belt that'd be plenty strong enough
07:08 AM pink_vampire: so it is like regular "omega" belt drive, just with one more belt on the bottom?
07:08 AM XXCoder: essentally.
07:08 AM pink_vampire: what is "non-timing belt"?
07:09 AM XXCoder: well theres belts thats only used for timing, 3d printers use those a lot
07:09 AM XXCoder: but for milling you need a little bit stronger belt than that
07:09 AM pink_vampire: the MPCNC use 6mm gt2 belts
07:09 AM jthornton: that drive is much more accurate as it eliminates the stretch of the belt and much faster than screw drive
07:10 AM pink_vampire: this is the h-bot https://youtu.be/ei4lPk_aM9Y
07:10 AM XXCoder: that looks bigger than cheap belts
07:11 AM pink_vampire: the omega style was my first idea, now, I'm thinking about the H-bot
07:12 AM jthornton: what is an omega style?
07:13 AM XXCoder: jt essentally one i linked a picture, but no bottom beklt
07:14 AM pink_vampire: jthornton: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0683/0809/products/IMG_8787_608bdc1a-ebf1-4098-bf20-83e949acf97a_1024x1024.jpg
07:14 AM pink_vampire: this is what I call "omega"
07:14 AM XXCoder: that is definitely tiny cheapass belt
07:14 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/plasma/X%20Axis%20Drive.jpg
07:14 AM jthornton: like that?
07:15 AM pink_vampire: I think so
07:15 AM jthornton: that's my plasma cutter I built from my brain
07:15 AM pink_vampire: in my design I'm trying to cheap and 3d printed parts
07:16 AM XXCoder: its worth belt to bump up a little on belts
07:16 AM XXCoder: money*
07:16 AM XXCoder: and make it double belt.
07:17 AM pink_vampire: the bottom long rails will be H profile, or 20mm round but supported,
07:17 AM XXCoder: expecially since theres almost no difference on gearing system for that. maybe tricky aligning both belts
07:17 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: you right
07:17 AM jthornton: yea don't undersize the belts, I ended up putting bigger ones on my plasma
07:18 AM pink_vampire: on the bridge, I'm using 2 16mm round shafts, and for the Z, I'm using 12mm shafts,
07:22 AM pink_vampire: what do you think about the H-bot vs independent belt for each axis?
07:22 AM XXCoder: dont know
07:23 AM pink_vampire: I don't know why, but all the very expensive printers, and the pick and place machines use H-bot
07:26 AM XXCoder: i dont know that design so dunno if good
07:29 AM XXCoder: off to bed for work. laters
07:30 AM pink_vampire: good night
08:14 AM pink_vampire: https://imgur.com/gallery/TqvJsxT
08:15 AM pink_vampire: Soldering iron restoration, that I did
08:18 AM miss0r2: so begind the process of smudging the table of my mill with cast iron powder...
08:19 AM pink_vampire: cast iron powder ewww
08:19 AM miss0r2: pink_vampire: nice looking iron you made there ;)
08:19 AM pink_vampire: I love it!
08:57 AM Loetmichel: sooo, finally all the handles für the needle files done... aaaand of course i ran out of green PLA... lets see how long it'll take for those two sets to "evaporate" here in the company... :-) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17538&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
08:58 AM miss0r2: its odd with nice equipment.. it has a tendency to evaporate...
08:58 AM Loetmichel: indeed
08:59 AM * miss0r2 is cursing myself for having a slitting saw collection that jumps from 80 to 145mm
08:59 AM miss0r2: What I need right now is a 100!
09:00 AM miss0r2: I should go somewhere and make it evaporate... :)
10:23 AM JT-Shop: wonderful paypal is sending me an unsolicited master card so I can get my money faster...
10:24 AM gregcnc: that's odd
10:25 AM t4nk-freenode: are you sure it's not a Somali prince that sent you a mail?
10:31 AM JT-Shop: yea got a snail mail announcement
10:31 AM JT-Shop: not an email
10:45 AM JT-Shop: yea my anodized parts just showed up and they didn't lose any this time
10:46 AM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: it comes in handy, the card
10:46 AM CaptHindsight: but it costs you an extra $1 or 2 to pull cash from a machine
10:54 AM jthornton: I would never use it, I transfer from paypal to a bank account
10:58 AM CaptHindsight: 1% back when used as a debit
10:58 AM jthornton: and I never use a cash machine, I use a shovel...
11:10 AM t4nk-freenode: I use a shovel on people whilst they're using an atm machine
11:12 AM gregcnc: how often?
11:13 AM t4nk-freenode: there's one across the street, sometimes 20-30 times a night!
11:13 AM t4nk-freenode: ;)
11:13 AM t4nk-freenode: I wait for the 'beep beep beep beep Boop' and then I rush out
11:42 AM pink_vampire: hi
11:59 AM gregcnc: vise carnage https://youtu.be/VcbTopj5u7A
12:30 PM SpeedEvil: No hydraulic press though.
12:33 PM pink_vampire: what do you think is better for cnc router, H-bot or Cartesian ?
12:33 PM SpeedEvil: Escher.
12:34 PM pink_vampire: O_o
12:59 PM CaptHindsight: non Euclidean geometry
01:03 PM CaptHindsight: if a robot paints a painting, is it art?
01:04 PM jym: sure
01:05 PM jym: No robot shaming
01:07 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Love Death Robots... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love,_Death_%26_Robots
01:08 PM CaptHindsight: worth watching?
01:30 PM pink_vampire: it took me alot of time to find how to do it, so if someone use firefox and want to change the location of the notifications this is how you do it: about:config > right click > new > integer > ui.alertNotificationOrigin > 0 - Bottom right, 2 - Bottom left , 4 - Top right , 6 - Top left
03:05 PM miss0r2: 40 minuts straight on a manual surface grinder... That is the workout of the day
03:18 PM pink_vampire: sounds like fun
03:22 PM miss0r2: it is *alot* of work on a truly manual machine.
03:22 PM miss0r2: No hydraulic traverse...
03:38 PM * jthornton knows what miss0r2 means... even a belt drive on the table is great
03:56 PM pink_vampire: if you have a small house, you can fit it in the lathe https://www.machinetools.com/en/for-sale/457724-monarch-40-x-324-engine-lathes?btr=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubWFjaGluZXRvb2xzLmNvbS9lbi9mb3Itc2FsZS9icmFuZC9tb25hcmNoP21vZGVsPTQwK1grMzI0
03:56 PM gregcnc: what are you making?
03:56 PM pink_vampire: I'm trying to build a cheap cnc router
03:57 PM gregcnc: you probably don't need a lathe that large
03:57 PM gregcnc: did you get more space or will the router mount to the ceiling?
03:59 PM gregcnc: is Berta running again?
03:59 PM pink_vampire: gregcnc: almost
03:59 PM pink_vampire: I need something about 2' x4'
04:00 PM gregcnc: bigger than the last one?
04:00 PM MacGalempsy: hello
04:00 PM gregcnc: heyo
04:00 PM MacGalempsy: hablas espanol tambien?
04:00 PM gregcnc: do you have any photos of the 4th that came with your xt?
04:00 PM MacGalempsy: makin chips today greg?
04:01 PM MacGalempsy: I should
04:01 PM gregcnc: might still
04:01 PM gregcnc: sold my emco mill, getting another emco tmr
04:03 PM MacGalempsy: https://flic.kr/p/gG7YMG
04:03 PM MacGalempsy: the brand is SMT
04:04 PM gregcnc: not SMW?
04:04 PM MacGalempsy: oh, maybe that is it
04:05 PM MacGalempsy: I know the company sold out at one point, and it was kind of a PITA to pin it out
04:06 PM MacGalempsy: the whole machine is still sitting in my mother-in-laws garage
04:06 PM pink_vampire: MacGalempsy: is that the oiling system? https://www.flickr.com/photos/58181938@N03/10299396016/in/album-72157648156040358/
04:06 PM gregcnc: I was brainstorming for 4th to fit the new mill
04:06 PM MacGalempsy: those valves are for the ATC
04:07 PM MacGalempsy: carriage left/right, carriage up/down, tool holder up/down, collet open/close
04:07 PM pink_vampire: it's all pneumatic?
04:08 PM MacGalempsy: the oil is a 220v pump in the sump
04:08 PM MacGalempsy: yes everything else is pneumatic
04:09 PM MacGalempsy: that relay to the right is the power to the VFD and other stuff
04:10 PM gregcnc: I think this is the same, but pneumatic drawbar
04:10 PM gregcnc: www.ebay.com/itm/113758862074?
04:10 PM MacGalempsy: yeah
04:10 PM gregcnc: well it looks slightly bulkier
04:10 PM MacGalempsy: you want to buy mine for that price?
04:10 PM MacGalempsy: you get the shipping
04:11 PM gregcnc: I'll let you know when the machine is running
04:11 PM MacGalempsy: sounds good
04:12 PM MacGalempsy: I need to have a major garage sale, but I know if the garage is empty, then the wifey will want to put her truck in there
04:12 PM pink_vampire: MacGalempsy: I don't have a wife.
04:13 PM MacGalempsy: why not?
04:14 PM pink_vampire: 2 women in the same house?
04:15 PM MacGalempsy: happens all the time, but I understand how there can only be one queen bee
04:17 PM pink_vampire: house without a cnc machine is not a house for me.
04:18 PM MacGalempsy: picked up a few delta printers a while back. just need to get the computer side figured out. they are rostock maxs'
04:20 PM pink_vampire: we all have those projects
04:21 PM MacGalempsy: the cool part is that there are two of them, just one has not been built yet :D
04:24 PM pink_vampire: I will be happy to get one and save you some space and time :)
04:49 PM Deejay: gn8
04:49 PM jthornton: night
04:49 PM MacGalempsy: well, these latin lessons have been interesting, the latin channel has not banned me yet :)
04:51 PM miss0r2: gah... Finally shaved this cast iron down to size... aftermath: https://imgur.com/nJOPQVe Soda can for size :)
04:52 PM jthornton: are you going to glue them back together?
04:55 PM miss0r2: hehe
04:55 PM jthornton: low tonight 55F
04:55 PM miss0r2: nah.. I got this cast iron for free.. Beggers can't be choosers.. I had to take a bit off the top to make it fit my needs
04:56 PM miss0r2: around here its more like low 40s
04:59 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Egineers-Surface-Plate-Quality/254014181288 'usual wear and tear'
05:02 PM JT-Shop: is that like 100+ years old?
05:03 PM JT-Shop: my WW2 cast surface place looks like a jewel compared to that one lol
05:04 PM SpeedEvil: I hope some of the marks on it are footprints
05:05 PM SpeedEvil: If I was local, I might buy it at that price - but as a 'precision' woodworking machine base.
05:05 PM SpeedEvil: Belt sand the top, polish it reasonably, coat of wax, and just punch random holes in it with no guilt.
05:18 PM pink_vampire: miss0r2: those are some chips
05:18 PM miss0r2: pink_vampire: yeah. I must've shaved 5-7kgs off that cast iron workpeice
05:18 PM miss0r2: and that was just squaring it up and bringing it to size...
05:18 PM pink_vampire: SpeedEvil: LOLLL
05:19 PM pink_vampire: miss0r2: what are you making?
05:19 PM miss0r2: pink_vampire: A shaper head for my mill
05:20 PM miss0r2: since I failed at finding a 7-8" shaper I could fit in here, I had to get "creative"
05:21 PM miss0r2: damn its late. I have to get some sleep. See you around
05:21 PM pink_vampire: shaper head??
05:21 PM miss0r2: linear motion machining
05:21 PM pink_vampire: pics or didn't happen
05:21 PM miss0r2: you know what a shaper is, right?
05:22 PM miss0r2: (at this point, the only photo I can show you of the project is a squared up peice of cast iron - not realy exiting)
05:22 PM pink_vampire: I know what is a shaper, but you made me super curious about the stuff that you make,
05:23 PM miss0r2: I will make some photos once theres actualy anything to look at, promise :)
05:23 PM miss0r2: Now I will have to get some sleep - see you around
05:23 PM pink_vampire: cool
05:23 PM pink_vampire: have a good night
05:24 PM pink_vampire: sounds like after all that machining you really deserve it
05:26 PM _unreal_: so much nicer. getting my desktop setup now
05:26 PM _unreal_: all my cad software etc.....
05:26 PM _unreal_: will be nice to have my mini tower setup as the windows cad system
05:27 PM _unreal_: going to put linux on it as well
05:27 PM _unreal_: dual boot
05:27 PM pink_vampire: cad software that can't export to a parametric file........
05:27 PM _unreal_: ;p
05:28 PM _unreal_: I've had no issues exporting to cam
05:28 PM _unreal_: OMG sooo much software to setup on this tower
05:28 PM _unreal_: and saddly its max out on memory if I am not worng.... 4gigs
05:28 PM _unreal_: core 2 quad
05:28 PM pink_vampire: what software?
05:28 PM _unreal_: everything
05:28 PM _unreal_: fresh install of win10 right now
05:28 PM pink_vampire: mine is also core 2 quad
05:29 PM _unreal_: I'm going to follow it up with a realtime install of ubuntu and put linuxcnc on as a dual boot
05:29 PM pink_vampire: what cpu are you using?
05:29 PM _unreal_: core 2 quad
05:29 PM _unreal_: aside from the computer i was just given its the most power computer I own
05:29 PM pink_vampire: yeah.. but what.. Q...
05:29 PM _unreal_: but the one I was given I'm going to use that at work
05:29 PM _unreal_: its a core 2 quad
05:30 PM _unreal_: 2.4ghz I think? I'd have to look it up but its CHUGGING right now doing win10 updates and isntalling auto cad
05:30 PM _unreal_: I have not even gotten antivirus installed yet
05:30 PM pink_vampire: core 2 quad is the series, what model?
05:30 PM _unreal_: q6600
05:31 PM _unreal_: I dont know the MB off the top of my head asus I think?
05:31 PM pink_vampire: I'm also have Q6600 as my cnc controlle
05:31 PM pink_vampire: my desktop is Q9650
05:31 PM _unreal_: PLenty of CPU
05:32 PM _unreal_: I was given an envy23
05:32 PM pink_vampire: I need new graphic card for the cnc controller.
05:32 PM _unreal_: I5 2.8GHZ 8ghg ram but the touch screen was totaly shattered. lcd is fine
05:32 PM _unreal_: I told them to find me a new one and I'll pay for it.
05:32 PM * jym hands pink_vampire a Trident 8900 ISA video card =)
05:32 PM pink_vampire: no no
05:33 PM _unreal_: I use to love my trident video card back in the day
05:33 PM _unreal_: then 3D came out and I hated it
05:33 PM pink_vampire: I had nvidia 9400GT that die.
05:33 PM pink_vampire: I'm thinking about some gtx
05:33 PM _unreal_: I remember buying one and getting a 1mb upgrade to two megs. only to find out I could have purchased an S3 with 4mb and had half decent OPENGL and played quake with opengl I wqas SOOOO pissed
05:34 PM _unreal_: hehe I'm talking 90's
05:34 PM _unreal_: intel pentium 200mmx
05:34 PM _unreal_: voodoo2's :)
05:35 PM pink_vampire: awwwwwwwwwwwww quake
05:35 PM jdh: I think that was the last game I played
05:37 PM _unreal_: heh
05:37 PM _unreal_: I have an eznet200 setup to play quake :)
05:37 PM _unreal_: geode200mhz cpu
05:37 PM _unreal_: 32mb ram :)
05:37 PM _unreal_: its ok
05:37 PM _unreal_: 320res
05:38 PM _unreal_: and it has a "cyrix" cpu that does not have the CYRIX issue the geode media gx1 cpu
05:38 PM _unreal_: OMG finish installing
05:38 PM _unreal_: freaking win10 updates. and software installing this desktop is going nuts
05:38 PM _unreal_: sigh
05:52 PM _unreal_: pink_vampire, I take it you played quake?
05:59 PM pink_vampire: yes
06:00 PM pink_vampire: on a pentium 200mmx
06:01 PM _unreal_: the good old days
06:02 PM _unreal_: I have a pentium 200 laptop :)
06:02 PM _unreal_: ibm latop
06:02 PM pink_vampire: AWWW that it cute
06:03 PM _unreal_: pink you would love the eznet 200 then
06:04 PM _unreal_: pink_vampire, https://img.pcstore.com.tw/~prod/M02358354/_BB_A1_A9_FA2.jpg?pimg=static
06:05 PM _unreal_: the chines adjusted the software to make them a "fax" system but they are a 200mhz x86 system
06:05 PM _unreal_: https://ct.yimg.com/xd/api/res/1.2/orbltKZ_cie7beSSFqq8gw--/YXBwaWQ9eXR3YXVjdGlvbnNlcnZpY2U7aD0xMDAwO3E9ODU7cm90YXRlPWF1dG87dz0xMDAw/https://s.yimg.com/ob/image/c17ee9da-491f-4a08-82d8-544a413bb3af.jpg
06:06 PM _unreal_: they are an ms emachine
06:06 PM _unreal_: "originally" used as an early internet applience computer like the IOPENER
06:13 PM _unreal_: ok so I now have most of the software I need setup on this desktop
06:14 PM _unreal_: amazing its been sitting for months more or less years idle
06:14 PM _unreal_: soon as libre office installs I'm going for that shower
06:23 PM Lcvette: https://youtu.be/nYfudfrebxY
06:23 PM Lcvette: just a little video of the new probe basic interface and probing overview!
06:23 PM Lcvette: sorry for the background noise and shakiness
06:26 PM _unreal_: Lcvette, you get your issue figured out?
06:26 PM Lcvette: Yup, on to other bugs now
06:27 PM _unreal_: what was the bug?
06:27 PM _unreal_: err issue
06:28 PM Lcvette: Which one?
06:28 PM _unreal_: the axis I believe? issue with the pendent?
06:29 PM Tom_L: he didn't have enough lines in the config
06:30 PM _unreal_: ?
06:31 PM Lcvette: Yeah needed to add some lines in the Hal file
06:31 PM Tom_L: couple enable lines etc
06:31 PM _unreal_: hum
06:31 PM _unreal_: ok
06:31 PM _unreal_: not really sure but OK :)
06:31 PM _unreal_: ok time for a shower. now this desktop is in windows update mode
06:31 PM Tom_L: do you use linuxcnc?
06:31 PM _unreal_: I do but I dont have anything currently setup working
06:32 PM Tom_L: it was due to a change they made with joint vs axis
06:32 PM _unreal_: and my little PC I wanted to use. has now been shelfed because I couldnt get enough help to try to get the code figured out to make the GPIO lines work
06:32 PM Tom_L: oh the arm controller?
06:32 PM _unreal_: other wise I would have to use a mesa driver
06:32 PM _unreal_: ya
06:33 PM Tom_L: somewhat uncharted territory
06:33 PM _unreal_: ya
06:33 PM _unreal_: and now I have been given this 23" touch screen i5
06:33 PM _unreal_: out of the blue
06:33 PM _unreal_: so hehehe WHAT else could i want
06:33 PM _unreal_: for a cnc controlller
06:34 PM Tom_L: couple mesa cards
06:34 PM _unreal_: the downfall is that I have two choices. mach3 usb controller OR a mesa card
06:34 PM Tom_L: mesa is superior
06:34 PM _unreal_: I have a mach3 card so I'm sadly likely going to go the windows rout for work
06:34 PM _unreal_: I'm sure
06:34 PM jthornton: marc yuck
06:38 PM Lcvette: unreal: wtf
06:38 PM Lcvette: Thought you were a linuxcnc guy?
06:38 PM _unreal_: I am
06:39 PM _unreal_: I'm going to dual boot that computer for linuxcnc and win
06:39 PM jthornton: send the mark tree usb crap to someone you don't like
06:39 PM _unreal_: i DO have to do the cad work
06:39 PM _unreal_: and they use autocad
06:40 PM _unreal_: ok time for a shower
06:40 PM _unreal_: after my shower I'm going to see about trying to get this stupid pcb built
06:41 PM _unreal_: I would SOOOOOO rather mill the bastard if i can get it figured out
06:52 PM sync: hmm andypugh the crank snout is 3/100 smaller on the frist half than the rest of the surface
06:52 PM sync: I'm tempted to just get it polished or do it myself and slap it back together
06:53 PM andypugh: Do you think it is meant to be?
06:53 PM sync: no
06:54 PM sync: I'm really suprised how good the engine looks on the inside
06:54 PM sync: and how good the bearings look
06:55 PM sync: when I repaired a friends 2.5l I6 petrol clunker the bearings were shot after 150Mm
07:15 PM _unreal_: OK... all showered
07:15 PM _unreal_: and rebooting most of my updates are DONE finally
07:16 PM _unreal_: just doing an UPDATE and reboot now SIGH
07:24 PM _unreal_: OMG ist still updating
07:34 PM jesseg: Which of these fonts looks better? https://i.imgur.com/N2Vfx1R.png
07:34 PM jesseg: One uses all straight lines and the other uses some arcs where plausible, etc.
07:35 PM Tom_L: the M sucks on both of em :)
07:35 PM Tom_L: one is too short the other too long
07:36 PM Tom_L: i suppose better depends on what the end use is
07:38 PM jesseg: Think M shuold kind of go half way instead of all the way?
07:39 PM Tom_L: i would
07:39 PM jesseg: yeah half way down looks better then either of what I had
07:40 PM jesseg: It's just a simple built-in obviously scalable font for my cad program - to show on screen and send to CNC
08:03 PM ziper: jesseg, top
08:04 PM ziper: with some exceptions
08:09 PM jesseg: ziper, I fixed M so the bottom of the V is half way down exactly
08:09 PM ziper: i don't like the v or the w. what about halfway between the two
08:10 PM ziper: oh good
08:10 PM ziper: the w too?
08:10 PM jesseg: ahh, I didn't change W yet but I think maybe it needs it
08:12 PM jesseg: ok any other suggestions, then I'll post a new screen shot :D
08:12 PM jesseg: In general, while I like the look of most of the rounded letters, some are hard to get right.
08:13 PM jesseg: And drawing arcs probably takes more cpu than lines
08:17 PM jesseg: How's this: https://i.imgur.com/ObaO0oC.png
08:22 PM jesseg: Basically the non-curvy letters all have their endpoints on a 5x7 grid lol
08:23 PM Tom_L: M looks alot better
08:23 PM jesseg: I agree
08:24 PM Tom_L: even on the rounded set i'd bring the center W down a little
08:25 PM jesseg: yeah let me try that
08:25 PM Tom_L: something else to contemplate, make the C just like the O except the right side
08:26 PM jesseg: On the curved set?
08:27 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:27 PM Tom_L: see what you think
08:30 PM jesseg: OK here's the C both ways and some W's to choose from
08:30 PM jesseg: https://i.imgur.com/xhiSsI2.png
08:31 PM Tom_L: what do you think?
08:31 PM Tom_L: i'd back the arcs on the C off just a little bit
08:31 PM Tom_L: maybe at the 45 deg instead of the 180
08:31 PM Tom_L: ie open it up a tad bit
08:31 PM Tom_L: the first row W looks good
08:32 PM Tom_L: first single row
08:32 PM Tom_L: in the end, it's your call
08:32 PM Tom_L: i'd do the D the same as the C but bring the top straight back at the top of the arc
08:32 PM jesseg: yeah but I really appreciate the feedback because I've been staring at it too long :P
08:33 PM Tom_L: just to see what a D like that would look like
08:34 PM jesseg: regarding the W's with 1 at the top of the stack, which one looked the best?
08:34 PM Tom_L: 3
08:34 PM jesseg: I agree
08:35 PM jesseg: I put it for both fonts
08:35 PM jesseg: which V was best?
08:35 PM Tom_L: i would push the C back the same as the top of the G
08:35 PM Tom_L: on the arcs that is
08:36 PM Tom_L: and keep the straight left side
08:36 PM jesseg: Oh, gotcha
08:36 PM Tom_L: and
08:36 PM Tom_L: put the straight back on the G like the C :)
08:36 PM Tom_L: then it's more uniform
08:37 PM Tom_L: so the C D & G and it looks good
08:37 PM Tom_L: bottom V i think
08:37 PM Tom_L: top one looks like a cutter :)
08:43 PM jesseg: *talkative friend called on the phone*.....
08:55 PM jesseg: wheeeee
08:55 PM jesseg: off the phone
08:55 PM jesseg: where was it :P
09:42 PM jesseg: Tom_L, there, I think I got it done - the middle row: https://i.imgur.com/YgwykDG.png
09:51 PM _unreal_: wholy crap
09:51 PM _unreal_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBoTkRH2E_I&t=279s
09:51 PM _unreal_: skip to 13min in the video
09:51 PM _unreal_: I thought it was an optical illusion at first
09:52 PM Tom_L: jesseg, i like that D alot better
09:52 PM Tom_L: and the G i think
09:53 PM Tom_L: jesseg, i like that middle row now
09:54 PM jesseg: yeah that's my best row
09:54 PM Tom_L: actually they all look pretty decent
09:54 PM Tom_L: that helped the D i think
09:55 PM Tom_L: and C
09:55 PM jesseg: yeah, in print, D is more like the bottom line. But maybe squaring them up a little fits with the CNC theme better :D
09:56 PM jesseg: I suppose I could also just find an open source truetype font lol
09:56 PM jesseg: but those are probably much heavier on the CPU to render
09:56 PM Tom_L: my cad has a few fonts
09:56 PM jesseg: with those cubic splines and such
09:57 PM jesseg: My cad doesn't have any scalable font yet, but that's why I'm working on it
09:57 PM Tom_L: i don't use them much so i'm not really sure what there is
09:57 PM Tom_L: mine are scalable
09:57 PM Tom_L: and i can wrap them
09:57 PM jesseg: cool
09:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/pendant/pendant2.jpg
09:58 PM Tom_L: like the top switches
09:58 PM jesseg: super cool
09:59 PM Tom_L: i was playing with the cutter depth there too. i should make another face
10:01 PM jesseg: thanks so much for helping me tune in my fonts!
10:01 PM Tom_L: heh, np
10:01 PM jesseg: now I need to figure out how I wish to store and retrieve them
10:02 PM jesseg: and maybe make some punctuation :P
10:04 PM Tom_L: i count 43 sets in the font directory
10:06 PM jesseg: wow, that's some options
10:06 PM Tom_L: some are outlines
10:06 PM Tom_L: some are just linear
10:06 PM jesseg: interesting
10:07 PM Tom_L: one is quite similar to your bottom one
10:08 PM Tom_L: upper and lower case
10:08 PM jesseg: yeah, I should probably do lower case too.
10:08 PM jesseg: but for now I'm just tired of having no text whatsoever
10:08 PM jesseg: so I'll just map it to UC
10:16 PM Tom_L: jesseg, here's one of them: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/font.jpg
10:17 PM Tom_L: heh they take the W to the top
10:17 PM Tom_L: and the M
10:18 PM jesseg: yeah evidently they just sort of did what I did but at least they finished :D
10:38 PM Lcvette: Tom_L: you on?
11:07 PM jesseg: Interesting. These Accelerated Designs PCB footprints don't seem to indicate whether the part should be a U1, X1, R1, C1, L1, etc.
11:07 PM jesseg: that or I'm an idiot.
11:07 PM jesseg: Oh, yeah, the latter is the case.
11:15 PM jesseg: dirty bastards... Why do they put global vital data at the end of the file? Now my convert has to either buffer the whole thing, or read it off disk twice just so it can convert it :P
