12:02 AM jesseg: Howdy
01:48 AM Deejay: moin
01:53 AM Loetmichel: *shudder* just showed a coworker yesterday how to turn some fuse adapters out of brass on my little C0 lathe... now i am sitting here trying to work and hear a near constant "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH" from the workshop... *goosebumps*
05:17 AM Tom_L: morning
07:25 AM jthornton: morning
07:25 AM XXCoder: yo
07:36 AM jthornton: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/37309-starting-a-new-cnc
07:37 AM XXCoder: so much details lpl
07:37 AM jthornton: lol
07:47 AM jthornton: I think I give him a link to the documents
07:55 AM Loetmichel: gee, sometimes i question the existence of common sense in people... coworker just walked up to me: "that printed PLA parts you made are rubbish, the hole is waaaay to big for an M3 screw!"... i looked at the part: the whole plastic cylinder around the 2.5mm hole for M3 threading ripped out... "did you use a lot of alcohol and used the tap on the low gear in the battery drill as i told you?"
07:55 AM Loetmichel: "nope, 1300RPM and dry, as you do in aluminium" "And didnt you wonder when there were whole clumps of molten plastic coming out?" "nah, i thoght thats how its supposed to work" ... *sigh* .-(
07:56 AM Loetmichel: 6 hours print time down the drain because he didnt listen :-(
08:01 AM jdh: the phrase "common sense" is a cop-out for people who can't be bothered to actually explain what the mean.
08:01 AM jdh: in this case, since you did explain, it isn't related to common sense, he just didn't seem to care what you said
08:01 AM Loetmichel: jdh: just that i DID explain it... he just ignored it
08:05 AM jdh: printed pla doesn't seem like it would be tap-friendly. is it?
08:06 AM SpeedEvil: Sharp tap, go slowly, and you can tap quite a lot.
08:06 AM XXCoder: jdh nah it works if you print underside
08:06 AM XXCoder: its not like metal where too much undersize means you cant tap it
08:07 AM jdh: I got a printer the other day. only tried the usual trinkets so far.
08:07 AM XXCoder: theres also threaded inserts if plastic wont be strong enough
08:07 AM XXCoder: you use solder and push it in
08:07 AM XXCoder: let it cool and its done
08:07 AM jdh: wanted something to occupy hurricane down-time but I never got interested enough
08:20 AM jthornton: which printer did you get?
08:23 AM Loetmichel: jdh: it is very tap friendly if you take care that the plastic stays below 60°C while tapping
08:23 AM Loetmichel: anything above that: instant mess
08:24 AM Loetmichel: i have two Ender3 pros at the company and an Anet A8... so far: the enders have WAY less problems
08:27 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/Comgrow-Creality-Ender-Aluminum-220x220x250mm/dp/B07BR3F9N6
08:27 AM jthornton: Loetmichel, you have two like that one?
08:28 AM T_F_Skywalker: Anyone have a lead on where to get a quality 80mm spindle in 1.5 or 2.2kw range? I'd like to get something a bit better than the $120 units off Amazon. Water cooled with an air seal would be ideal.
08:30 AM gregcnc: I don't think there is much between dirt cheap and thousands of dollars
08:31 AM gregcnc: there was one seller of chinaco spindles who tested them prior to shipment?
08:33 AM Loetmichel: jthornton: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17418&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
08:34 AM Loetmichel: does that answer your question
08:34 AM Loetmichel: ?
08:34 AM T_F_Skywalker: lemme check
08:34 AM T_F_Skywalker: o sorry wrong reply :)
08:34 AM Loetmichel: (in other words: yes!)
08:35 AM T_F_Skywalker: I'll still check it out :)
08:35 AM jthornton: Loetmichel, is it a direct drive extruder?
08:35 AM Loetmichel: bowden
08:36 AM jthornton: ah could not see the drive
08:37 AM jthornton: now I see the drive
08:38 AM jthornton: Loetmichel, what is on the Z stepper motor on yours?
08:39 AM Loetmichel: thre drive is behind the left Z tower
08:39 AM Loetmichel: ON the Z stepper?
08:39 AM Loetmichel: ah, you mean the x steppers?
08:39 AM Loetmichel: a webcam
08:40 AM jthornton: ah ok
08:40 AM jthornton: I was wondering if it was some kind of cooling fan
08:40 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17424&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- you can watch the printers from the "printserver" PC webinterface
08:41 AM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBb6vFMjX5M
08:41 AM Loetmichel: can even record video ;)
08:42 AM Loetmichel: its mostly to check if the bed is free before sending a print job via web interface though
08:42 AM Loetmichel: easier than walking up to the printers and do it via the SDcard slot ;)
08:43 AM jthornton: cool
08:44 AM Loetmichel: i will get some IP controlled power strips though. because i can start a print and go home and still access the web interface... so i can shut the printers down after they finshed
08:44 AM jthornton: so the printer is connected to the LAN?
08:46 AM jthornton: it looks a lot better than the one I have now
08:49 AM Loetmichel: the printers are connected via USB to a PC running linux and repetier server
08:49 AM Loetmichel: and that PC has a lan connection
08:49 AM Loetmichel: but for a single printer i would rather use a Raspi and Octopi/octoprint
08:49 AM Loetmichel: same pourpose, less ressources needed
08:50 AM Loetmichel: i scaled for 4 or even 6 printers eventually, a raspi wouldnt be enough for that
08:53 AM jthornton: thanks for the info
08:54 AM jthornton: I have a box full of raspberry pi 3's
08:56 AM jthornton: I've not seen octopi before...
08:58 AM Loetmichel: octopi isn an image for rasoi with a debian (IIRC) and octoprint already installed
08:58 AM Loetmichel: raspi
08:58 AM jthornton: yea just downloaded the image
08:58 AM Loetmichel: only reason i dont use octoprint is because it cant handle more than one printer
08:59 AM jthornton: I just need one so it might be perfect and small
08:59 AM Loetmichel: yes
09:22 AM jthornton: time to hit the road and head home
09:31 AM CNC_Brian: !topdl
09:47 AM jdh: heh, I got an Ender 3 also. Just printed that dog in gray last night
09:48 AM Loetmichel: jdh: THAT dog? -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17418&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
09:48 AM Loetmichel: :-)
09:53 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17427&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- there you can see the cameras better btw
09:53 AM Loetmichel: and the filament spool holder upgrade in progress :-)
09:55 AM jdh: dog and cat demo prints came out great. things I sliced myself were sucky
10:39 AM skunkworks: jdh: it certainly takes a bit for figuring out the settings.
10:40 AM skunkworks: I don't know what the heck the difference is but I use an older version of cura for slicing as I cannot get decent prints out of the latest.
12:22 PM pink_vampire: hi
01:03 PM JT-Shop: whew glad to be home after a 2,500 mile ride and for you Kilometer people that 4023km
01:05 PM jym: JT-Shop: Sturges??
01:16 PM JT-Shop: Outer Banks
01:26 PM Loetmichel: JT-Shop_ on how many days?
01:27 PM Loetmichel: <- just told a coworker today that if all fails i will bring him his forgotten tablet next week to berlin (about 600km from where the company is) because "its not that far a drive"... he wasnt allowing it :-)
02:32 PM jthornton: Loetmichel, 6 days
02:32 PM Loetmichel: thats quite a feat then
02:33 PM Loetmichel: longest i did in one run here is 700km to a customer, delivered some PCs and drove back
02:34 PM Loetmichel: started at 0400 in the morning, arrived back home at 2400 same day ;)
02:34 PM jthornton: first day was a long one about 650 miles
02:35 PM Loetmichel: so close to 1500km/900 miles in a day
02:35 PM Loetmichel: would be hard pressed to do that 4 days in succession though ;)
02:35 PM Loetmichel: direkt succession
02:36 PM jthornton: yea we took it easy the rest of the trip
02:36 PM Loetmichel: and i can drive here at 140 mph if i want to and traffic allowes it
02:37 PM jthornton: 80 mph maximum here in the midwest and east
02:37 PM Loetmichel: so being stuck at 88mph or even lower (65 is the average i belive?) i would have died of boredom on that 2500 miles ;)
02:38 PM roycroft: i once had to drive from eugene to eastern oregon (425km), got a call from there that a ds3 was down in bend, so drove back to there (210km), determined that the problem was in portland, drove there (250km), then had a fiber outage in roseburg (290km), and finally was able to drive home to eugene (120km)
02:38 PM Loetmichel: <- noticed on those trips that i literally get sleepy on long stretches of 130kph limit. driving 230kph for a few minutes "cures" that pretty good ;)
02:39 PM roycroft: so 1285km of driving
02:39 PM roycroft: iirc i left at 5am, and returned home at 5pm the next day
02:40 PM roycroft: it took that long because i had to do work at every location
02:40 PM roycroft: i think that was my longest work day ever
02:40 PM Loetmichel: (130kph=80mph, 230kph=140mph)
02:41 PM roycroft: i used to live in bellingham, washington, and when i moved to eugene i still had a client in bellingham
02:41 PM roycroft: i supplied all their computers and serviced them
02:42 PM roycroft: i made trips up there regularly - it's 600km each way
02:42 PM roycroft: but i always stayed overnight
02:42 PM roycroft: i'm not sure that i ever drove all the way up there, did waht i needed to do, and drove back the same day
02:43 PM * roycroft loves road trips, but not driving to the point of exhaustion
02:45 PM Loetmichel: yeah, its hard on the body
02:45 PM Loetmichel: especially when you are 50+ like me ;)
02:46 PM Loetmichel: it worked a LOT better when i was 25 ;)
02:47 PM Loetmichel: my record back then was to go to work on thursday moring 0900 and fall unconcious sunday night (monday morning) at 0400
02:47 PM Loetmichel: and that was stage rental aka "roadie" work.
02:47 PM Loetmichel: so no desk job
04:22 PM Deejay: gn8
05:37 PM jthornton: http://wiringpi.com/wiringpi-deprecated/
05:45 PM Tom_L: bad mood?
05:48 PM CaptHindsight: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
05:49 PM t4nk-freenode: let me at 'em!
05:51 PM CaptHindsight: jthornton: sounds about right
05:51 PM CaptHindsight: easy to get fed up
05:59 PM jthornton: yep easy to get that way with all the morons out there
06:12 PM pcw_mesa: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls...959086600.html
06:13 PM XXCoder: 404
06:14 PM pcw_mesa: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/d/sunnyvale-hurco-kmb1-cnc-milling-machine/6959086600.html
06:15 PM jthornton: hey Peter, what a beast but the price is less than scrap value
06:15 PM pcw_mesa: yeah I guess he just wants it hauled away
06:16 PM jthornton: hmm Kwik Switch 200 that's what my BP Series 1 Anilam conversion uses
06:16 PM XXCoder: 20 days, "over the weekend" likely its gone now?
06:17 PM pcw_mesa: I just happened to see it on CNCZone no idea what the status is
06:18 PM * jthornton has OctoPrint up and going for the new printer...
06:19 PM pcw_mesa: the listing says updated 3 hours ago...
06:23 PM XXCoder: this its this weekend guy plans to break it down
06:24 PM XXCoder: *this means its
06:24 PM jthornton: hmm OctoPrint seems pretty cool
07:57 PM jdh: nice timing
08:43 PM _unreal_: omg commands just dont work with this Irc client
08:45 PM _unreal_: t4nk-freenode: any luck?
08:45 PM _unreal_: any one around?
08:47 PM XXCoder: what command?
08:47 PM _unreal_: ANY
08:47 PM _unreal_: it wont let me /command anything
08:47 PM XXCoder: not even /ping nic?
08:47 PM _unreal_: nothing
08:47 PM XXCoder: wow what client is that
08:48 PM _unreal_: I'm using some android irc app
08:48 PM XXCoder: ah lol i'd recommand hexchat but thats not android
08:48 PM _unreal_: just got to orlando with my daughter gooiong to the new disney starwars park toomorrow
08:48 PM XXCoder: I recall andirc something?
08:48 PM _unreal_: if I get a lot oof doubled letters I'm not bothering to fix them. its caused by this BT keyboard
08:49 PM XXCoder: looks like o is common lol
08:49 PM _unreal_: heh i dont evendare check for itt may close thiss session
08:50 PM _unreal_: thiss could be andirc
08:50 PM _unreal_: god this bt keyboard drives me crazy with the double letters
08:50 PM XXCoder: lol
08:50 PM _unreal_: does not matter how fast or slow I type it will still double letters now and then
08:51 PM _unreal_: and TINYTINYkeyboard
08:51 PM _unreal_: my pinkys are bigger then the shift keys
08:51 PM XXCoder: lol i used acer aspire one to do all homework in while ago
08:51 PM XXCoder: keyboard is tiny
08:51 PM _unreal_: I have a Zagg keyboard
08:52 PM _unreal_: the Zagg is a good shell dont get me worng
08:52 PM _unreal_: but the keyboard hass always pissed me offf
08:52 PM _unreal_: lot of correcting oof typingg do to this wierd key doubling
08:52 PM _unreal_: its like it has poor debouce
08:53 PM XXCoder: that is very likely yes
08:53 PM _unreal_: but for my industry this shell has been wonderful
08:54 PM _unreal_: its the zagg for 7" I believe?
08:56 PM _unreal_: saddly II'd kind of rather inn a way be home working on the rest of the parts Ineed to be milling for my daughters mini machine
08:56 PM _unreal_: II have a large number of them done. but the main one's are now up and I have just not gotten around to dealing with them
08:56 PM _unreal_: been dealing with a few of the highly complex parts that are part of the Z. lot oof little details
08:57 PM _unreal_: so far going to gether very well butt I found that I had minor errors in a few areas and when I corrected them they caused secondary issues
08:58 PM XXCoder: bleh issues that stack up
08:58 PM _unreal_: so now there is an other area that II need too mill a pocket deeper
09:00 PM _unreal_: because I found that II had made a circle shape to the ID not the OD
09:00 PM _unreal_: soo when I corrected it....
09:00 PM Tom_L: i gave up trying irc on my android
09:00 PM _unreal_: heh
09:00 PM _unreal_: sso i'm nott the only one
09:00 PM _unreal_: that has had issuues
09:00 PM Tom_L: andchat or whatever it was seemed the best though
09:01 PM _unreal_: hehehe just finished my beer. asked my daughter to grab me and other oone.
09:01 PM _unreal_: she goes OHHH are thosse ginger ales... I was like nope they are daddyales
09:01 PM _unreal_: easy mistake though rollingg rock cans
09:03 PM _unreal_: you know now I'm kicking my self. I need to order hardend steel rods
09:03 PM _unreal_: I got standard steel rods from the hardware store and Iforget just how crapy they are.
09:03 PM _unreal_: I'm nott goiing too have those onn my daughters mini cnc
09:04 PM _unreal_: making stufy dirty with metal dust and greasing etc...
09:06 PM XXCoder: whats you plan to use for movement?
09:06 PM Tom_L: probably triangle bearing arrangement
09:07 PM _unreal_: tom?
09:07 PM _unreal_: just threaded rod
09:07 PM _unreal_: 1/4-20
09:10 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, are you still using grbl as the control?
09:11 PM Tom_L: did you get anywhere with your arm board yet?
09:12 PM _unreal_: grbl?
09:12 PM _unreal_: no
09:12 PM _unreal_: I tested grbl for a shoft time but one oof my arduinoss is a knockoff and didnt work well with it besides
09:12 PM Tom_L: what are you usin then?
09:12 PM _unreal_: ahh
09:13 PM _unreal_: great... I have not stated the name inn such a long time Ineed to remember what its callled
09:14 PM _unreal_: planetcnc
09:14 PM _unreal_: I have a planetcnc board
09:14 PM _unreal_: and I have to admit thoe Mfers did a fantastic job oon both there software and hardware
09:14 PM Tom_L: oh that's right. i think i remember you mentioning it
09:14 PM _unreal_: ever looked at clipper?
09:14 PM Tom_L: no
09:15 PM Tom_L: not the clipper you're referring to anyway
09:16 PM _unreal_: sorry typo
09:16 PM _unreal_: www.klipper3d.org
09:19 PM _unreal_: I have not played with it but I've done some minor research on it
09:20 PM andypugh: jthornton_: Octoprint is very cool. I hang out in #octoprint too
09:20 PM andypugh: But not there or here for many more seconds. ’tis late again
09:20 PM Tom_L: as usual
09:23 PM _unreal_: always seems to be late when it comes to night time
09:24 PM Tom_L: 3am where he is
09:28 PM _unreal_: hum
09:28 PM _unreal_: ya 10:30 here
09:28 PM _unreal_: and sitting in a hotel room in orlando :)
09:28 PM _unreal_: heh
09:30 PM XXCoder: 7 pm here lol
10:11 PM skunkworks: Looks like the scope should was delivered to work.
10:11 PM skunkworks: should was>
10:11 PM skunkworks: I need to go to sleep
10:24 PM Tom_L: rigol?
10:25 PM _unreal_: ?
10:26 PM Tom_L: his scope
10:29 PM XXCoder: 3d print everything! https://youtu.be/3XB6wuhnnF0
10:32 PM skunkworks: yes rigol
11:39 PM XXCoder: not bad video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s2iZ7HrQX8
11:39 PM XXCoder: 37 minutes, restoration of 1940s lathe
11:39 PM XXCoder: small one
