01:21 AM _unreal_: skunkworks, are you using the FGPA for doing stepping control? or are you using the main cpu
06:03 AM Tom_L: morning
06:03 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, he's using mesa cards
07:21 AM jthornton: morning
07:22 AM XXCoder: hey
11:01 AM fragalot: 'sup
01:47 PM Deejay: hi
01:58 PM skunkworks: _unreal_: using mesa 7i92.. ethernet connected fpga
02:04 PM _unreal_: hum
02:37 PM jym: Just was going to repaint the pump house, but nooooooooooooo... Gotta dig a ditch around it, gotta grab the POS electric chainsaw and cut away at the 50ft tree pushing against, then have to take apart the pump house to paint the partially rotting parts, and then I get a leak and dont have the right size fittings on hand... Can nothing ever just be SIMPLE?!
02:52 PM gregcnc: jym what would you do otherwise?
02:54 PM jym: gregcnc: Uh, primer and paint perhaps?
02:54 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LFl4v5AcZk8ed-yGZLsisnEbMLLkKv7Q/view?usp=drivesdk
02:54 PM _unreal_: just finished designing and milling a custom vac plate
02:55 PM jym: and it's labor day, and the local hardware store is closed
02:57 PM _unreal_: kiss my ass I'm under hurricane watch
02:57 PM _unreal_: Though I'm out of the cone
02:57 PM _unreal_: FINALLY
02:57 PM _unreal_: but got an other mega feeder band about to go by
02:57 PM _unreal_: I can already hear the lighting
02:58 PM * _unreal_ needs to setup a mini control board now for his mini vacuum pump :)
03:13 PM unreal_ is now known as Guest40484
03:42 PM Deejay: gn8
04:19 PM Vq_ is now known as Vq
04:33 PM MacGalempsy: whats up guys? makin chips?
04:40 PM _unreal_: making cad
04:40 PM XXCoder: making sick
04:41 PM andypugh: Same here. Being hassled by a guy who wants me to make him some prototypes. And I would rather not, really.
04:41 PM andypugh: He seems to think offering money motivates me to spend my limited spare time on his projects.
04:42 PM syyl_: make an obscene high price offer.
04:47 PM XXCoder: sy hes one whos getting offers not making em
04:48 PM XXCoder: higher the price, the more likely "oh fine ill make your thing" though lol
04:50 PM * _unreal_ waits for the "fuck and he accepts my obscene high price offer"
04:51 PM syyl_: haha
04:51 PM XXCoder: $100. "SURE!" "per millisecond"
04:51 PM syyl_: yes, that happenes
04:51 PM syyl_: and you will hate every second of working on that project :D
04:51 PM _unreal_: HAHA
04:51 PM _unreal_: you guys see my vac plate?
04:51 PM syyl_: not that that ever happened to m....
04:52 PM _unreal_: I cant go anywhere do to the hurricane :( my car is stuck in the gurrage
04:53 PM _unreal_: so I'm drinking beer like a PIG and have sausage on the charcoal grill :)
04:53 PM _unreal_: for LATE lunch
04:53 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-79.45,26.57,3000/loc=-79.279,26.961
04:54 PM andypugh: That’s really pretty. From over here.
04:55 PM _unreal_: hum
04:55 PM _unreal_: not so lucky for those in the bahamas
05:13 PM jdh: is that plate made of starboard?
05:24 PM _unreal_: yes
05:26 PM jthornton: quiet
05:26 PM XXCoder: shh'
05:26 PM XXCoder: how goes things on holiday
05:27 PM _unreal_: I dont have a less then no caps button :(
05:27 PM _unreal_: it blew
05:27 PM _unreal_: hehehehe HURRICANE talk
05:27 PM _unreal_: ok going to go have food and watch a movie with my daughter
05:29 PM jdh: my starboard cuts usually come out really clean.
05:56 PM Tom_L: jthornton, back home now?
05:57 PM jthornton: no, still at kill devil hills
05:57 PM jthornton: _unreal_, what part of florida are you in?
05:58 PM Tom_L: last i heard it was gaining strength
05:59 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, don't run out of beer or you're screwed
06:00 PM jthornton: naw, it's draining down to a 4 now
06:00 PM jthornton: we will probably leave wed morning
06:01 PM Tom_L: you gonna make it to your destination or did you change plans?
06:03 PM roycroft: it's a very, very dangerous category 4
06:03 PM roycroft: and it's almost stalled, which makes it way worse
06:06 PM roycroft: it looks like it's finally starting to turn northward
06:10 PM jdh: that's too bad.
06:17 PM roycroft: turning northward is the best thing it could possibly do
06:17 PM roycroft: that's what will keep it offshore
06:18 PM roycroft: stalling, however, is about the worst thing
06:21 PM jdh: sitting on Freeport for a day
06:30 PM jthornton: we are on the Outer Banks since Sunday Tom_L
06:42 PM _unreal_: south florida
06:45 PM Rab: _unreal_, neat vacuum plate! What's the gasket material?
06:46 PM _unreal_: The standard black shit
06:47 PM _unreal_: neoprene gasket
06:47 PM _unreal_: You like that ehhhh
06:47 PM Rab: How big is the plate?
06:47 PM _unreal_: the BLACK gasket ring is about 2"x2" in starboard
06:48 PM _unreal_: the "hole'S ARE 2" BY 4" MOUNTING wise
06:48 PM Rab: Oh, OK...I grossly misjudged the scale. The gasket looked like something from a car door.
06:48 PM _unreal_: its 1/8th thick gasket material
06:48 PM Rab: Are you getting good holding force with the vacuum pump?
06:48 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1L8tr6l3o_3voioI8HBMD93dRLFAURr2b
06:48 PM _unreal_: amazing
06:50 PM _unreal_: THE gasket area is 2x2"
06:50 PM _unreal_: and the gasket its self is sitting 1/32 above the starboard
06:50 PM Rab: What are you holding with such a small plate? Or is it a prototype for a larger version?
06:51 PM _unreal_: under vacuum it sucks down flat
06:51 PM _unreal_: no its what it is
06:51 PM _unreal_: its for holding small foot prints
06:51 PM _unreal_: allows me to do 2.75D ;)
06:51 PM _unreal_: LOL
06:52 PM _unreal_: So ya I can now do some EDGE MILLING
06:53 PM _unreal_: RAB?
06:53 PM Rab: YES?
06:54 PM _unreal_: HI :)
06:54 PM _unreal_: um..
06:54 PM _unreal_: how you doing (( :)
06:54 PM Rab: Doing well!
06:55 PM _unreal_: So have you done anything with your starboard yet?
06:55 PM Rab: No, I had to leave town for a work project.
06:55 PM _unreal_: DAMN
06:56 PM _unreal_: you need to do something with that starboard. I mean it will DECAY with in 100 yeras
06:56 PM _unreal_: years
06:56 PM Rab: What a coincidence, me too!
06:56 PM _unreal_: especially with equator sunshine
06:56 PM jthornton: I don't have 100 years left...
07:00 PM _unreal_: interesting. Though I my self feel like I got a MILLION "when drinking" left
08:47 PM XXCoder: FGSAGR why is 45mm arylic tubes so hard to find
08:48 PM XXCoder: only find so far https://www.aliexpress.com/item/572022566.html
08:48 PM XXCoder: its 12 tubes, I only want 2, and wow shipping
08:50 PM Tom_L: http://www.lustercraft.com/products/plastic-materials-services
08:50 PM Tom_L: local company i get my plastic from
08:50 PM Tom_L: dunno if they have 45mm
08:50 PM Tom_L: i've gotten 1.xx" up to 4" from them
08:51 PM Tom_L: oh.. for your light...
08:51 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:51 PM XXCoder: i have 2 of those now
08:59 PM XXCoder: ohh found 48mm with 44mm id
08:59 PM XXCoder: that mnight work if I can find 1000mm length ones
08:59 PM XXCoder: *42mm id
09:01 PM XXCoder: problem with this is its only 100mm long lol https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000008069693.html?
09:03 PM Tom_L: get some solvent and stick 2 of them together?
09:04 PM XXCoder: would need 10 which is kinda much
09:04 PM Tom_L: mmm
09:38 PM XXCoder: cnc lights https://www.amazon.com/DOCEAN-Aquarium-AC100-240V-Waterproof-Underwater/dp/B07F3212N2/ geg
09:38 PM XXCoder: not bad really
09:38 PM XXCoder: wasnt what I was looking but interesting
09:39 PM Tom_L: wouldn't you want more directed light?
09:39 PM XXCoder: it'd be good for overall
09:39 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:39 PM XXCoder: it sucks that everyone is messing with how search works.
09:39 PM XXCoder: makes it impossible to find stuff
10:36 PM jym: Is it possible that a water shuroff valve on my side of the meter just stops working after decades?
10:37 PM jym: It's like 10 turns or so, but the water still flows
10:37 PM Tom_L: gate valve?
10:37 PM Tom_L: it's possible
10:37 PM Tom_L: i don't like gate valves
10:38 PM XXCoder: did it stem flow a little then stays constant afterwards?
10:38 PM jym: I had to dig most of it out
10:38 PM jym: XXCoder: say that again?
10:38 PM Tom_L: jym reduced flow but still drips?
10:38 PM Tom_L: or a gusher?
10:38 PM XXCoder: basically at full open, you start turning to close it, it loses some flow then stops losing any more flow
10:39 PM jym: It's like I never touched the valve at all
10:39 PM Tom_L: maybe it deteriorated
10:39 PM Tom_L: it could be a rubber gasket type that the rubber is gone
10:39 PM jym: Tom_L: But even so, wouldn't ot reduce flow to some extent?
10:40 PM Tom_L: that many turns makes me think it's a gate valve but it may not be
10:40 PM Tom_L: hard to say
10:40 PM Tom_L: something has failed on the valve
10:40 PM jym: Has anyone heard of that happening before?
10:41 PM Tom_L: i replaced the gate valves above my water heater and basement supply with ball valves
10:42 PM jym: Yeah, those I get, but this is the main shutoff valve, there is one on the other side of the meter, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mess with it
10:42 PM Tom_L: i would
10:42 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, What!!! dont tell me your afraid of a little leaking
10:42 PM Tom_L: i have
10:43 PM Tom_L: jym i'd shut it off at the meter and replace the valve
10:44 PM jym: I have one of those valve shutoff wrenches, just wouldn't hate for it to be fucked up and I break it, they have to pay the water company a couple thousand bucks
10:44 PM Tom_L: they're typically tight but i'd give it a go
10:44 PM Tom_L: just don't over do it until you see it turn
10:45 PM jym: It's only a quarter turn
10:45 PM Tom_L: right
10:45 PM Tom_L: just like a gas petcock valve
10:45 PM jym: yeah, just 18" in the ground
10:46 PM roycroft: i suggest you not break it
10:47 PM roycroft: i've had to turn off the water on the utility side of the eter several times, until i finally convinced the water company to replace the meter and valves and cover box
10:48 PM roycroft: the valve on my side of the meter was completely inaccessible because the cover had shifted over the years
10:49 PM jym: I just wanted to repaint the pump house, then I found a 50ft tree has been pushing over the box, then had to grab the chainsaw.
10:50 PM jym: then I found a leak, drove 50 miles today to get parts, and now the shutoff valve dont shut off.
10:50 PM jym: Can anything ever just be simmmmmple?!
10:50 PM Tom_L: oh hell no
10:50 PM jym: Murphy is a DEAD MAN when I catch him!
10:51 PM Tom_L: i keep junk boxes full of various pieces for repairs
10:51 PM roycroft: the water shutoff/meter here is just below ground level
10:52 PM roycroft: because we have no frost level
10:54 PM jym: Tom_L: I do, but didn't have any 3/4" fittings
10:54 PM Tom_L: jym i've had my bout playing plumber.. it's your turn
10:55 PM jym: Oh I HATE water leaks of any kind... plumbing, roof, etc
10:55 PM Tom_L: finally got things back in order after the water heater blew
10:55 PM jym: Tom_L: I still feel bad for you over that
10:55 PM Tom_L: just got me that it gave no warning at all
10:56 PM jym: Tom_L: Do you have a pan and drain line now?
10:56 PM Tom_L: and at 1:30-2 am
10:56 PM Tom_L: it's right by the sump anyway
10:57 PM Tom_L: but the sump was blocked at the time since it's never been used
10:57 PM Tom_L: ever
11:00 PM jym: oh geeze
11:01 PM Tom_L: the sewage sump is right beside the other one but it's sealed
11:02 PM Tom_L: i pulled the 2" rubber plug sealing the pump power line to let water into it once i discovered it
11:03 PM Tom_L: a pan under it would have done nothing for this
11:03 PM Tom_L: did you see the heater?
11:16 PM jym: no
11:16 PM XXCoder: everyone loves water till they buy a house.
11:19 PM jym: lol
11:21 PM XXCoder: not kidding either
11:21 PM XXCoder: my house had massive damage from water leaking into basement. we now have sump pump
11:21 PM XXCoder: im sure tom is learning the hate
