01:59 AM Deejay: moin
03:39 AM Loetmichel: *OUCH* $me isnt 20 any more... just opened our 50kg steel rolling gate at the driveway of the company to let the trash truck in... with a liiiitle to much force. So i sprinted after it, trying to catch it before it falls out of the gates and damages a coworkers car... tripped over my own feet and connected kneecap and gate rolling rail... limping a bit now :-( ... At least the gate didnt
03:39 AM Loetmichel: tip, so coworkers car is safe :-)
05:07 AM Tom_L: morning
05:15 AM jthornton: morning
06:08 AM _unreal_: Rab, So have you done anything with the starboard? and if so what do you think of it?
06:13 AM XXCoder: been working 11 hours a day for a bit
06:13 AM XXCoder: so boring. lol
06:33 AM Loetmichel: sooo, made an Endstop bumper for the rolling gate so that noone other get hurt. Lets see how long that M6 bolt inside the rubber will last ;) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17466&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:44 AM jthornton: probably just shear it off...
06:50 AM gloops: better off putting some padding on the gate at knee height lol
06:51 AM jthornton: lol
06:51 AM XXCoder: add lots of steel spikes and skulls. that way people is too afraid to be near it. no more people hurt.
06:52 AM MarcelineVQ: wouldn't be too hard to gate to make a sliding gate instead, given that nice strong fencline
06:54 AM Loetmichel: gloops: i managed to "knee down" on the rail where the gate rolls on. RIGHT in the middle of the kneecap
06:54 AM Loetmichel: hmm, isnt a sliding gate the same as a rolling gate?
06:54 AM Loetmichel: it DOES open sideways
06:55 AM Loetmichel: it just open "to far"
06:55 AM Loetmichel: the bumper i installed prevent that from happening (hopefully)
06:55 AM Loetmichel: becasue it doesent fit thru the rollers on the fence
06:56 AM gloops: well, these knocks and bangs are having an effect you know, you dont realise when youre 30 the pain just goes off and you think youre back to normal, its when you get to 50+ you realise they did have a lasting effect after all
06:56 AM Loetmichel: i AM 50+ ;)
06:59 AM gloops: the oldsters used to tell us constantly - dont knock yourself about, bend your knees, watch your back, dont kneel all the time, nobody listens, but we all wish we had
07:00 AM XXCoder: abnd dont fuck your lungs up
07:00 AM Loetmichel: na, i just notice that i take longer to heal nowadays
07:00 AM gloops: yes that especially
07:00 AM Loetmichel: no more "break a leg, walk on it 3 weeks later as if nothing had happened" ;)
07:02 AM gloops: you want to start acting your age Loetmichel, one bang like that now and you could be on sticks for good
07:03 AM XXCoder: gloops: heh doctor told me if I had lungs infection again, I would die
07:03 AM XXCoder: 3 years ago i had it. it took me well over a month to heal
07:03 AM XXCoder: and for over a year afterwards I could barely blow
07:03 AM gloops: XXCoder have you got a history of dust inhalation?
07:03 AM XXCoder: its pretty lot better now but still far below what I could do before that
07:04 AM XXCoder: no, too many infections and stuff
07:04 AM XXCoder: lungs are damaged
07:04 AM XXCoder: before you ask, no, I never smoked. if I did, that infection probably would have been end of me
07:04 AM gloops: ahh right, just coincidence ailments
07:04 AM gloops: some big claims made here by people who inhaled dust at work
07:05 AM XXCoder: heh ya if theres dust risk i wear a hepa mask
07:05 AM XXCoder: i dont care to die just yet
07:05 AM gloops: its the employers duty to ensure you are safe
07:05 AM XXCoder: yep
07:05 AM XXCoder: less so in usa sadly
07:06 AM gloops: not that money is much comfort when youre on an oxygen bottle
07:06 AM XXCoder: that'd be so much fin
07:06 AM XXCoder: *fun
07:06 AM XXCoder: what worries me though, is fires :(
07:06 AM XXCoder: last year I had to wear mask for 3 weeks
07:06 AM gloops: smoke?
07:06 AM XXCoder: 2 years ago, 2 years
07:07 AM XXCoder: smoke and literal ashes
07:07 AM gloops: like forest/wild wires
07:07 AM XXCoder: last year my car got gray by ashes from canada, washington, oregon and calfornia
07:07 AM gloops: we dont have much of that here
07:07 AM XXCoder: unfortunately climate change is affecting things here a lot
07:08 AM XXCoder: this july was hottest july period. thankfully where I am somehow was bypassed. never crossed into 90s f
07:08 AM gloops: well, we just had the warmest July on record, now we're having the wettest August
07:08 AM XXCoder: this year summer is old style summer
07:08 AM XXCoder: havent been here since 80s
07:09 AM XXCoder: this is rainforest biome, its supposed to rain once a while during summer too.
07:09 AM gloops: tbh these patterns are familiar to me, ive seen this before, but seems they are slightly more extreme than usual
07:09 AM XXCoder: you know saying about frog and boiling water
07:09 AM XXCoder: this is what is happening.
07:09 AM Loetmichel: gloops: give me another 30 years to develop brittle bone syndrome... then i will act my age ;)
07:10 AM gloops: haha we all had your gusto Loetmichel, until old age struck
07:10 AM Loetmichel: its already striking, i just ignore it ;)
07:10 AM XXCoder: i lost mine in my 30s
07:11 AM Loetmichel: (best i can)
07:11 AM Loetmichel: i am only 50.5 though
07:11 AM gloops: i reckon my back is about 60% what it was, my elbows are knackered, and now my neck and left shoulder is going the same, painful most of the time
07:11 AM Loetmichel: still about 20 years to an eventual retirement ;)
07:11 AM XXCoder: arthitis at 27
07:12 AM Loetmichel: <- born 19.02.1969
07:12 AM XXCoder: 1976 here heh
07:13 AM gloops: doing work now is a bit like just after you ate a huge Xmas dinner then being offered 3 burgers - you just dont want it lol
07:13 AM XXCoder: lol
07:13 AM gloops: 76 was a very hot year
07:14 AM XXCoder: because I turned out to be goodamn hot
07:14 AM XXCoder: ;)
07:14 AM gloops: we had a long drought here in 76, roads melting etc
07:14 AM XXCoder: one would have to be born very early to have experenced normal weather, though 70s-80s was very close to normal
07:15 AM XXCoder: its like exponental growth, lots of it is barely moving
07:17 AM gloops: lol, well im of the persuasion that the weather patterns are always shifting, there is no real normal
07:18 AM XXCoder: thats why you use statistics and averages
07:18 AM gloops: i admit we are having some ups and downs atm, but id want a little bit more to accept things are really changing
07:28 AM MarcelineVQ: "<XXCoder> this july was hottest july period. thankfully where I am somehow was bypassed. never crossed into 90s f" We're getting really lucky with fires so far given how hot early summer/spring was
07:30 AM MarcelineVQ: I've got an air cleaner and masks but haven't had to unpack them
07:30 AM MarcelineVQ: but last summer had a lot of smoke periods
10:10 AM Loetmichel: hmm, any americans here that can link me an "example" car title? we are just discussing here in the company how different countrys "car papers" look.
10:11 AM Loetmichel: i mean the "proof of ownership" that you have to show the officer if he stops you. or dont you have that rule over there?
11:14 AM mozmck: Never heard of having to show "proof of ownership" here in the US. You have to show proof of insurance though.
11:14 AM cradek: Loetmichel: the title is only used when initially registering or selling the car. the registration is proof that you paid your taxes to get your plates, and is carried in the car
11:14 AM mozmck: People often borrow someone else's vehicle - or rent.
11:15 AM mozmck: hi cradek
11:15 AM cradek: the registration is renewed every year, and they also give you a sticker showing the month/year to go on the plates
11:15 AM cradek: hey
11:15 AM cradek: I used linuxcnc today, and yesterday, and the day before that
11:15 AM mozmck: Here in tx you don't have to carry registration papers unless it is a commercial vehicle.
11:16 AM mozmck: That's nice!
11:16 AM cradek: yeah I bet all this varies by state (I'm not even sure all states require you carry insurance)
11:20 AM cradek: looks like it's version 2.6.10. works great!
11:21 AM cradek: holy cats we're having weather
11:29 AM mozmck: I think my router table in the shop is still running 2.3 or so.
11:29 AM mozmck: I should update it sometime I guess :-)
11:29 AM cradek: sure, as soon as something fails?
11:33 AM Loetmichel: cradek: interesting
11:33 AM Loetmichel: over here when you register the car you get a new "datasheet" with all the cars data and "extras", also the license plate number and your name and adress
11:34 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=12340&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:34 AM Loetmichel: like this
11:34 AM Loetmichel: and you HAVE to have that in your car
11:34 AM cradek: sounds similar to our registration paper, which shows car stats, owner stats, plate number, expiration date, taxes paid.
11:34 AM Loetmichel: (actually you get two of those, one small like in the photo and one larger, which also is the title as in proof of ownership)
11:35 AM Loetmichel: the bigger one should NOT be in the car because it would mean someone else that steals your car can legally register it to his name
11:35 AM Loetmichel: with the bigger registration paper
11:37 AM Loetmichel: and you cant even get license plates without registering the car, and registering isnt possible without an "insurance number" so if you have said registration paper its proof that you have paid both insurance and tax
11:38 AM Loetmichel: but interesting to hear that it varies by state over in the US how this stuff is handled
11:38 AM Loetmichel: what does your police do if you are from a different state with different requirements?
11:38 AM Loetmichel: do they know all states requirements?
11:40 AM cradek: hahaha no they just harrass you for a while and then let you go if your skin is light enough
11:41 AM cradek: (mostly, they ask questions about where you're going and why, and then use their feelings to know whether to try to get you to consent to a search of your car.)
11:41 AM Loetmichel: ah, "over here" is germany of course
11:41 AM Loetmichel: if you didnt get that from my picture
11:41 AM Loetmichel: :-)
11:42 AM Loetmichel: you have to conset to that?
11:42 AM Loetmichel: consent
11:42 AM cradek: it's easier for them if you consent to a search, and many people do
11:43 AM MarcelineVQ: You don't have to consent but you get to go home sooner if you do
11:43 AM cradek: (this is worse now that some states have legal marijuana and some don't)
11:43 AM MarcelineVQ: because if they really want to look they will, one way or another
11:43 AM Loetmichel: MarcelineVQ: unless they find something to arrest you for i assume?
11:43 AM cradek: or plant it
11:43 AM cradek: it's very dangerous to consent to a search
11:44 AM dan3wik is now known as dan2wik
11:49 AM Loetmichel: cradek: thats one thing that will not happen in germany
11:49 AM cradek: do cops routinely carry guns there?
11:49 AM Loetmichel: planting evidence is REALLY frowned upon here, the judges lock police officers away for VERY long if they get a hint of that.
11:49 AM Loetmichel: yes, they do
11:49 AM Loetmichel: its not britain ;)
11:49 AM Loetmichel: fun fact: i hit a wild boar with my car a few decades ago
11:52 AM Loetmichel: the fun fact was taht the standard police sidearm is simply a bit "low power", not that i hit an animal of course
11:56 AM Loetmichel: and for that list: yes, german police officers are trained in deescalation. they ask first and shoot only if there is NO other option remaining
11:57 AM Loetmichel: there arent many KIA police officers either
11:58 AM Loetmichel: and they are usally polite
11:58 AM Loetmichel: to see agressive cops in american "dashcam videos" is pretty horrifying for a german.
12:11 PM ziper: its pretty horrifying for americans too
12:11 PM ziper: at least those that are paying attention
12:18 PM Loetmichel: it may have to do with the fact that your officers get 3 months "training on the job" and our officers have to sit thru 3-5 years of school before they go on duty.
12:20 PM Loetmichel: but what i meant is that it seems (at least from a german perspective) to be every other cop in the us is a racist and agressive pig. while here in germany (in my experience) you may have 1 in 100 that is like that
12:20 PM Loetmichel: and even those are weeded out as soon as they step over their boundarys
12:25 PM Loetmichel: my brother in law is a cop (was SWAT, now is an immigrations detective of sorts) for example has IMHO pretty dark/racist opinions (may be because he has seen so many things)... but that does NOT show when he is on duty other than in some caution when approaching a refugee. he is NEVER agressive or "talking down" to anyone when on duty.
02:07 PM Gaston|DSP: Are there any symbol library for Mesa? 7I76E and 7I73 are the ones I'm looking for
02:08 PM Gaston|DSP: for KiCad I should have said
02:11 PM CaptHindsight: Ethernet FPGA card and pendant cards?
02:11 PM Gaston|DSP: yes, trying to get it on paper in KiCad
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: kind of odd to have symbols for anything beyond a component
02:12 PM Gaston|DSP: I have already made symbols for other stuff, like the stepper driver UDK5128N but would be nice not having to do them all
02:13 PM Gaston|DSP: Yeah, best ecad i have :/
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: i would expect anything beyond a component to not have a symbol available
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: possibly a 3D model at best
02:14 PM Gaston|DSP: relays and transformers were not to hard to find, but I made some changes to better suit my needs
02:14 PM Gaston|DSP: Nah, 3D is not needed for a simple schematic
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: yes, those are considered components
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: complete boards are not
02:15 PM Gaston|DSP: I did find a symbol for 7I92 :)
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: user submitted
02:15 PM Gaston|DSP: of course
02:17 PM CaptHindsight: proceed with caution
02:17 PM Gaston|DSP: This is what I have so far https://pasteboard.co/IsQAT4I.png
02:18 PM Gaston|DSP: I just put the 7I92 for reference
02:18 PM CaptHindsight: my eyes i have to wash my eyes!
02:19 PM Gaston|DSP: Ok, that's a bit harsh
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: just kicad
02:21 PM Gaston|DSP: Got any better suggestion (besides pen and paper) ?
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: it's the default colors they use for kicad
02:42 PM Gaston|DSP: Should be able to print to monochrome :P
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: Orcad looked similar in the 90's
03:23 PM XXCoder: jthornton: lol https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/540760439022157864/611625921685880896/IMG_4154.JPG?width=714&height=598
03:24 PM * JT-Shop waves at XXCoder from the machine shop...
03:24 PM XXCoder: yo :)
03:25 PM JT-Shop: lol
03:25 PM XXCoder: hows ankle so far?
03:26 PM Tom_L: he had to go to the machine shop to forget about it
03:26 PM JT-Shop: using the ace bandage during the day and the brace thing at night and it's somewhat ok
03:27 PM JT-Shop: just took the starter for the JD310A to the automotive electric shop, can't wait to see what that will cost...
03:27 PM skunkworks: what has been the latency people have been getting with the rpi4?
03:27 PM XXCoder: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/719tbsS9MGL._SL1200_.jpg get one JT-Shop
03:27 PM JT-Shop: just got raspbian loaded this morning, going to do it again with a minimal desktop
03:28 PM JT-Shop: they only work for city slickers with sidewalks lol
03:28 PM XXCoder: use it just for inside shop
03:28 PM JT-Shop: no room lol
03:28 PM XXCoder: oh too bad
03:29 PM Tom_L: lbuntu?
03:29 PM JT-Shop: I go from machine shop to new shop to chicken yard to ... all day long
03:29 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L: me?
03:30 PM Tom_L: yeah
03:30 PM Tom_L: wonder if it would work on the pi
03:30 PM JT-Shop: no, raspian lite with no desktop
03:31 PM JT-Shop: then add a minimal desktop... can't remember the name but it's nothing but a desktop with no menus or anything you add what you want
03:31 PM skunkworks: I am getting 700us with youtube playing..
03:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.linuxcnc.org%2Fmedia%2Fkunena%2Fattachments%2F22448%2Flat.png&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.linuxcnc.org%2F18-computer%2F36879-raspberry-pi-4&docid=AbOG_a3-Qkhp-M&tbnid=TnBNWZsNMpersM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwizhY2e24XkAhVBWq0KHWlrDuYQMwhCKAEwAQ..i&w=972&h=551&client=firefox-b-1&bih=690&biw=1023&q=Rpi4%20linuxcnc%20latency%20test&ved=0ahUKEwizhY2e24XkAhVBWq0KHWlrDuYQMwhCKAEwAQ&iact=mrc&uact=8
03:33 PM Tom_L: dunno who posted that
03:47 PM skunkworks: saw that. I did a isolcpus=3.. sounds like you need isolcpus=1,2,3
03:47 PM skunkworks: wonder what the performace is like with only 1 core for the os
04:06 PM Deejay: gn8
04:15 PM Centurion-Dan2 is now known as Centurion_Dan
05:30 PM andypugh: cradek: The UK version is split in to “Before 2000” and “after 2000” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_Kingdom
05:32 PM andypugh: (ANd includes heart failure in custody, for example)
05:38 PM skunkworks: I get about 50us with nothing running.
05:38 PM skunkworks: that is with isolcpus 1,2,3
05:39 PM skunkworks: but if I run glxgears it rises up and youtube videos then are unplayable.
05:49 PM _unreal_: I now have 6 hold downs :)
05:52 PM _unreal_: flyback, what was that link again?
07:01 PM CaptHindsight: the UK is way behind the USA in police killings, go USA!
07:14 PM flyback: _unreal_, the battery ?
07:14 PM flyback: bgmicro
07:38 PM _unreal_: flyback, the little pump thing
08:45 PM flyback: same place
