12:17 AM miss0r: hehe I used to have an 8" touchscreen... but I had to use a stylus on it, so it wasn't realy effective
12:22 AM Elmo40: too small. should get an all-in-one HP touch screen
12:22 AM miss0r: yeah.. I don't run that anymore. I've since build a new controller with a 17" marina touchscreen, but I have not installed it yet
12:22 AM miss0r: At some point in the future I will replace the philips 432 controller on my mill with the homebrew lcnc one
12:22 AM Elmo40: sounds interesting.
12:23 AM miss0r: One thing in particular. The 18-speed gearbox coupled with a VFD for the main spindle
12:23 AM miss0r: that and glass scales
12:24 AM miss0r: My experience with linuxCNC stops at running steppers, so this is quite a jump
01:05 AM flyback: SUGGEsstion miss0r
01:05 AM flyback: heavy ventilation fan even more than suggested
01:05 AM miss0r: LISTEning
01:06 AM flyback: to add lifespan to vfd etc
01:06 AM miss0r: Indeed :] The control cabinet that holds all the servo drivers & VFD ect has alot of ventilation. This machine has worked since 1985 :)
01:06 AM flyback: good :)
01:07 AM flyback: fans are cheap
01:07 AM flyback: other stuff not so much
01:07 AM flyback: you can salvage fans if $0
01:07 AM miss0r: yeah. I only build the new controller for it. The cabinet that holds all the eavy eq was made by deckel maho back in the day - and they didn't skip on ventilation :)
01:08 AM flyback: nice job
01:08 AM flyback: I would have said oem :P
01:08 AM flyback: looking at it
01:08 AM miss0r: thanks. I did used to make my living building controllers for various stuff
01:09 AM flyback: I don't doubt it
01:10 AM miss0r: I have a few photos of stuff I did labeled 'cable porn', wanna see? :)
01:11 AM miss0r: this is it : https://imgur.com/a/JxPpzNV
01:13 AM miss0r: That is the sort of stuff I used to build. Now I repair/rebuild machine tools for a living - I like that alot more :D
01:18 AM flyback: cool
01:18 AM flyback: goodnight
01:18 AM flyback: it's late and took sleep pills
01:19 AM flyback: that's cool repairing machine tools
01:57 AM Deejay: moin
02:49 AM Loetmichel: maan, sometimes i ask myself if our bosses ever had business economics lessons... they buy custom PC enclosures in china made of 3mm sheet alu for 30eur per part (instead of 120 eur from a local supplier)... and now two coworkers have to stand outside with a belt sander and hide all the kinks and scratches for 1-2 hours a part... and they STILL dont look as good as the local (german) made
02:49 AM Loetmichel: ones :-(
02:55 AM sensille: why do they buy it without consulting you first?
02:58 AM gloops: 120-30 = 90, 2 hours labour = 20? hes still making 70 on them
02:58 AM gloops: would be better talking to the china supplier and affering 40 for sanded
03:00 AM gloops: also, buy some new sandpaper occasionally lol
03:01 AM Loetmichel: gloops: point is: cost per hour per person is around 45 eur here in germany
03:01 AM Loetmichel: and the sanded stuff STILL isnt as good as the locally made ones
03:01 AM gloops: well, you dont want skilled labour doing sanding like that, get someone off the street corner
03:02 AM Loetmichel: then you get worse enclsosuresn than you started with
03:02 AM gloops: minimum wage here is around £8-9 i think, no idea about germany
03:03 AM Loetmichel: point was that its nothing gained when you save some bucks ordering custom metal in china and get delivered absolute crap with dents, kinks, nonparallel sides, bulges, scratches, forgotten welds, lose threaded rivets and so on
03:03 AM Loetmichel: loose
03:20 AM gloops: agreed
03:21 AM gloops: i suppose it depends on your market and competition though, if $5 is the difference between a sale or not you have to economise
03:22 AM gloops: we've all had chinese stuff that is literally a waste of money, not fit for purpose, not fit for anything
03:23 AM gloops: reputation is another thing, the stuff youre saying about the chinese products, your customers will be saying about you
03:24 AM gloops: bloke who used to do cars up and sell them here told me 'you can sell 50 good ones and nobody says anything - sell 1 bad one and everybody in town hears about it'
03:24 AM gloops: that applies to most things
03:24 AM Loetmichel: indeed
03:26 AM Loetmichel: they say in germany: "it takes ten satisfied customers to gain one more, but one disgrunteld customer will cost you 10 others!"
03:26 AM Loetmichel: seems boss didnt get the memo
03:26 AM gloops: yeah that principle is true for most things
03:27 AM gloops: the bodge artists get round it with relying on advertising - not work of mouth
03:27 AM gloops: word
04:56 AM gloops: need to identify a font
04:56 AM gloops: any ideas
04:57 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Personalised-Oak-Carved-Wooden-Name-Sign-House-Address-Plaque-Outdoor/223535562797?
04:57 AM XXCoder: no idea
04:58 AM Tom_L: morning
04:58 AM gloops: hold on hes got a list of available fonts..lol
05:01 AM gloops: but that isnt any of them..pff
05:01 AM gloops: hi Tom_L
05:10 AM XXCoder: yo
05:11 AM gloops: font is Aladin
05:11 AM gloops: which i havent got of course
05:12 AM Tom_L: of course
05:12 AM gloops: im amazed im not wearing a mouse a day out designing this stuff, probably my eyes and brain thats wearing out
05:13 AM XXCoder: theres apparently 2 ghz firmware update for pi4
05:38 AM jthornton: morning
05:39 AM XXCoder: yo
05:43 AM gloops: well thats my version https://ibb.co/mvtrKNW
05:43 AM jthornton: making some progress on the new store
05:44 AM gloops: the shakes are a bit straight to be natural but nobody will notice
05:44 AM jthornton: what font did you use
05:44 AM gloops: haha ..Aladin , eventually
05:44 AM gloops: took longer to find the font than draw the rest
05:46 AM jthornton: I'd be they have a million of them
05:47 AM gloops: there are font identifiers but the only photo i had the text was at an angle so they didnt get it
05:51 AM gloops: bent the shakes a bit, perfect
06:03 AM jthornton: gloops, do you have a few minutes to test the shipping rates to UK on my new store?
06:03 AM gloops: yeah what do i have to do?
06:03 AM jthornton: just load some stuff from the test catagory into the cart and check shipping rates
06:04 AM jthornton: http://mesaus.dreamhosters.com/
06:06 AM gloops: Shipping
06:06 AM gloops: Priority Mail Express International™ (3 - 5 business days): $72.50
06:06 AM gloops: Priority Mail International® (6 - 10 business days): $57.60
06:06 AM gloops: First Class Mail® International: $29.00

06:07 AM jthornton: what is in your cart?
06:07 AM gloops: 7I76E $199
06:07 AM jthornton: looks about right
06:08 AM gloops: doesnt say how long first class mail takes
06:08 AM jthornton: opps I don't have the weight set for that product lol
06:09 AM gloops: will compare it to something else
06:09 AM jthornton: use the test products they have weights
06:10 AM gloops: came up the same for 5i25-7i77 Kit
06:10 AM gloops: same prices for test bundle 1
06:15 AM jthornton: ok thanks
06:16 AM jthornton: yea they are pretty light, if under 1 pound first class should be offered and I see it is
06:16 AM jthornton: thanks for testing for me
06:23 AM gloops: np, ill remember this favour if ever i place an order lol
06:24 AM jthornton: ok lol
06:25 AM gloops: actually i think you might have a few on me anyway, i remember a few snags i came here with i probably wouldnt have found without the help in here
10:17 AM beachbumpete1: jeez man this internet is about as flaky as a nice croissant!
10:58 AM flyback is now known as phlyback
10:59 AM phlyback is now known as flyback
11:06 AM beachbumpete1: hey folks
11:07 AM beachbumpete1: well I managed to get my Cincinatti working again with the new AC servo drive.
11:07 AM beachbumpete1: Seems all it needed was to be reset and it started working LOL
11:07 AM beachbumpete1: I thought I had missed a parameter or something
11:08 AM beachbumpete1: it was kinda strange how it locked down the axis but then did not move the axis until I reset the drive. then it started working
11:08 AM beachbumpete1: Or I did something magical that I was not aware of that caused it to all of a sudden start working ;)
11:08 AM beachbumpete1: Either way I am glad it is working hehehe
02:12 PM jym: wow, split???
02:48 PM Connor: beachbumpete1: Any idea what happened to the other drive?
03:49 PM * JT-Shop just pulled the trigger on transferring mesaus.com to dreamhost
03:50 PM jym: JT-Shop: have you hosted with them before?
03:59 PM Deejay: gn8
04:18 PM JT-Shop: no
04:18 PM JT-Shop: I have all three of my web sites going there and mirrors are setup now
04:19 PM jym: ah ok
06:17 PM Tom_L: quiet day
06:25 PM _unreal_: there finally done. my cnc machine is as tuned as it is ever going to get
06:25 PM _unreal_: just spent like 3 days of fucking around with it trying to get it alined
06:27 PM _unreal_: and Tom_L PLease... SHHHHHHH
06:28 PM _unreal_: now that my cnc is better alined its moving cleaner as well
06:28 PM _unreal_: clearly smoother
07:21 PM _unreal_: any one alive?
07:22 PM _unreal_: so WOW what a difference. I just re-leveled my PCB work bed. man what a difference
07:23 PM _unreal_: Had to because I adjusted 2 of the axis
07:24 PM _unreal_: I think my cnc machine COULD do aluminum if I go slow
07:24 PM _unreal_: have not tried. I need to get my dust collection working first
07:24 PM _unreal_: just got my stupid ass litle 12v vacuum
07:24 PM _unreal_: I must say it works rather well
08:23 PM jym: cool
08:24 PM jamesarm1: Who here can answer a Mach3 newbie question? Just testing the Y motors and I must be overlooking how Mach and gcode interact because I thought I wrote a simple move Y from 0 to 12 and back then Loop
08:24 PM jamesarm1: >It moves to about 10.5” and shows the same thing on the DRO and goes back to 0, does not reach 12. If I issue the same command manually it will. Adding a Dwell after each move it does get to the Y12 position. What am I overlooking or not understanding?
08:27 PM jdh: what is Mach3
08:27 PM Wolf__: simple, step one, replace it with linuxcnc
08:29 PM jamesarm1: I’ll have to check into that. Don’t know why I associated Mach with Linux. I have been on this channel for awhile but been awol for over a year.
08:30 PM Wolf__: when you say shows on DRO, scales on the machine? or mach readout?
08:42 PM jamesarm1: Just the current axis location based on the motion commands. Not a real DRO, but what is on the screen matches where it moves. I think I was thinking of using Linux CNC a long time ago before I started working on building a machine but got sidetracked with Mach3 after some time passing.
08:43 PM jamesarm1: G0Y12 moves to 12” and shows 12” on the screen, but G0Y12 followed by G0Y0 in the gcode filed moves to about 10.5” before returning to 0 (I have the program repeat). Adding a short dwell of .5s makes it work.
08:43 PM jamesarm1: Iom
08:43 PM jamesarm1: I’m sure ill
08:44 PM jamesarm1: Figure it out or switch (will have to get more
08:44 PM Wolf__: weird, no idea there lol
08:44 PM jamesarm1: hardware)
08:46 PM jamesarm1: Almost like the planner sees the g0y with no other x or z moves and figures it will turn around and start moving to 0. I don’t think any machine / software should do that (insert Mach3/non-Linux CNC jabs here)
08:58 PM jdh: I know nothing of mach but might check g09, g61, g64 seems unlikely to cause that much shrinkage
08:58 PM jamesarm1: But odd thing is it does move the right distance is during a single command. Using a move to 12 follow
08:59 PM jamesarm1: Followed by move to 0 is when it shows up.
09:08 PM Tom_L: G90 & G91 will affect that
09:08 PM jdh: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/getting-started/getting-linuxcnc.html
09:11 PM Tom_L: also sounds like it's loosing steps for whatever reason
09:16 PM Tom_L: jamesarm1, what happens when you issue a linear move instead of a rapid?
09:16 PM Tom_L: G1 X12 F10
09:16 PM Tom_L: G1 X0
09:16 PM Tom_L: or Y whatever
09:17 PM gregcnc: G0 always has more tolerance than G1, even if you can move at the same speed
09:17 PM gregcnc: so it's just rounding the corner off
09:17 PM gregcnc: knowing this can make a difference when you program things
09:19 PM gregcnc: like when you get gouging of the part due to having a retract plane too close to the top of the part
09:25 PM jdh: oh, missed the g0 part
09:27 PM jdh: any reason for the planner to not optimize the g0 away completly without an intervening command
09:28 PM gregcnc: I suppose if tolerance was 12"?
09:29 PM gregcnc: 1.5" even on a rapid is a lot, it would seem
09:48 PM Valen: !seen pcw_home
09:55 PM _unreal_: jamesarm1, there are a number of things that could cause the issue
09:55 PM _unreal_: ARG... so tired
09:56 PM _unreal_: very annoying day at work today
09:56 PM _unreal_: and now my daughter is sick.. sigh
09:56 PM _unreal_: have any of you guys messed with "designspark"?
09:57 PM _unreal_: https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/home
09:57 PM _unreal_: https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/mechanical-software
10:42 PM skunkworks: ummm... https://youtu.be/3rwz7qLIc6s
10:44 PM Tom_L: no sound.
10:44 PM MarcelineVQ: is he trying to say mesa?
10:44 PM Tom_L: good or bad?
10:45 PM MarcelineVQ: 3 mins in he hasn't really said anything yet, there's a bunch of other linuxcnc related vids on the channel though so there could be stuff to see
10:46 PM MarcelineVQ: well, a bunch in the sense of total % of videos
10:47 PM Tom_L: i'll spend the time sleeping then :)
10:47 PM skunkworks: it is like he is a comedy geniuos... or...
10:47 PM skunkworks: sp
10:48 PM MarcelineVQ: he's holding manual pages up to the camera now :X
10:48 PM Tom_L: i did the 5 sec flip thru and saw nothing to make me stop and watch
10:49 PM MarcelineVQ: heart's in the right place I think but definitely rough around the edges in terms of video creation prowess, just a lot of one long rambling takes from what I can see in other vids
10:52 PM skunkworks: my videos are worse...
11:06 PM CaptHindsight: was playing with nanodlp.com
11:07 PM CaptHindsight: they dumb down and automate features so the user doesn't learn how to be a SLA/DLP printer operator
11:08 PM CaptHindsight: not open source so I don't know why it's so popular
11:08 PM CaptHindsight: free but not open
11:18 PM CaptHindsight: and it phones home without asking me, nice
