12:05 AM roycroft: that activator has isocyanates?
12:05 AM roycroft: oh shit
12:05 AM roycroft: so i have been using the really bad stuf

01:12 AM CaptHindsight: Building a LitePlacer: An Open Hardware pick and place machine
01:17 AM CaptHindsight: all that work for a thin t-slot frame mounted on some timber
01:18 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.liteplacer.com/shop20/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=64
01:18 AM CaptHindsight: 1,699.00€
01:21 AM CaptHindsight: OMG https://github.com/jkuusama/LitePlacer-DEV/tree/master/LitePlacer
01:21 AM CaptHindsight: why why why???
01:30 AM Loetmichel: hmm... just found the picture i made of my "quarter mile app" on the BMW... not bad for an 10 year old stock BMW 325i (E39) touring... 10.6sec 0-100kph, 9.6 sec 0-60mph, 18.7sec for the quarter mile. Not great but OK for 192hp 2,5 liters 6 cyl with 250000KM/155000miles on the odo :-)
01:50 AM Deejay: moin
04:37 AM Loetmichel: MAAAAAN iam as dumb as bread sometimes... just soldered some brass strips to a DP->DVIn converter board... woth my finger on the other side of the brass strip... *sucks finger* THAT will be a blister soon... :-( -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17448&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
04:59 AM Tom_L: silly
04:59 AM Loetmichel: indeed
04:59 AM Loetmichel: even more silly than usual
05:00 AM Loetmichel: how i thought 0.3mm brass will be slow enough heat conducting to get the finger away in time: no idea
05:07 AM Tom_L: next time wear some wet leather gloves :)
05:08 AM Tom_L: instead of fried flesh you'll get boiled
05:19 AM jthornton: morning
05:23 AM XXCoder: morning'
05:29 AM jthornton: builders will put up the lean too today I think
10:47 AM jym: good morning
12:42 PM CaptHindsight: https://3dprint.com/250453/eliminating-porosity-in-metal-3d-printing-through-thermocapillary-force/
01:22 PM perry_j1987: afternoon gents
01:28 PM Connor: beachbumpete1: You figure out your issues?
01:30 PM Connor: So, on this new to me lathe.. I want to take outside and pressure wash it down to get all the muck, oil and crap off of it. I plan on removing the lead screws and shaft, the cross slide and carriage. I wasn't planning on doing anything with the headstock. I'm concerned I may do more harm than good. What's my options here? Can I add some rust preventive to the pressure washer?
01:36 PM roycroft: just dry it right away
01:37 PM roycroft: for the leadscrews and the like, you can use a heat gun or propane torch to get them good and dry without fussing around
01:38 PM roycroft: i would be a bit concerned about spraying the headstock though
01:49 PM gloops: water probably wont hurt once anyway, it will have a hard layer of oil all over
02:01 PM Connor: I was going to mix in some degreaser with it.. (Dawn)
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: WD40 (water displacement formula 40) after blowing it off with compressed air
02:06 PM Connor: I hate WD40.. Leaves a sticky film...
02:06 PM Connor: It's good to clean with.. but, I always chase it with something else to clean IT up.
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: that film will prevent oxidation until you prep for paint
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: it will displace the water from tight areas
02:10 PM jthornton: anyone from Canada want to pretend to place an order on my new store to see if shipping looks right?
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: pressure wash, blow dry, wd-40, scrape and sand, denatured alcohol or acetone or lacquer thinner wash, primer, paint, relax
02:13 PM Connor: any considerations for the head stock? I wasn't planning on tearing it down.. but water can get inside it I'm guessing.. and inside the spindle bore too.
02:14 PM Connor: It's enclosed however.. it's in a oil bath..
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: coat the area where the spindle meets the stock with grease and then plastic bag it
02:15 PM Connor: Still trying to figure out the paint..
02:16 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/specialty/farm-and-implement buy the white as base, tint it yourself to the teal
02:20 PM roycroft: yeah, i did not know that the activator for the paint i've been using has isocyanates
02:21 PM roycroft: i'm not recommending that paint unless you have a full body suit and a fresh air respirator
02:21 PM roycroft: too bad though, because it's awesome paint
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.amazon.com/Chromaflo-830-9907-Cal-Tint-16-Ounce-Colorants/dp/B001PD0WZ4/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Cal-Tint+II&qid=1565118958&s=gateway&sr=8-2
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: isocyanate free epoxy primer http://www.autobodymaster.com/product_list.jsp?PHPRJ_GROUP_ID=2013
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: ~$100/gal, $30/quart
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/color/rgb-to-cmyk.html
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: Connor: ^^ find your color, follow the CMYK formula
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: well 2K urethanes have their advantages, but the downside is the isocyantes
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: for DIY
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: another option https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/industrial-brands/high-performance/epoxy-coatings/roc-prime-100-hybrid-epoxy-primer?ls=263501&lc=Gray%201%20Gallon
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: and as topcoat https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/industrial-brands/high-performance/alkyd-coatings/7400-system-dtm-450-voc-alkyd-enamel/
02:36 PM CaptHindsight: ^ custom tints are available if you have a store nearby
02:40 PM jym: tints for what?
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: Rustoleum White farm implement paint
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: he wants a custom color
02:42 PM jym: ah
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: Alkyd Enamels used to be available everywhere
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: they don't crosslink like epoxies or urethanes so they can be sensitive to solvents after drying
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: Connor: another option https://www.krylonindustrial.com/product/tough-coat-quik-dry-alkyd-enamel/
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: just avoid the hardener since it's an isocyanate
02:59 PM Connor: machine white is fine for the lathe. I'm looking for a teal color.. The shop has 2 or 3 versions of the teal.. hopefully we can match one.
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: Connor: https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/color/rgb-to-cmyk.html
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: find your color and the formula will be very close to the CMYK version
03:01 PM CaptHindsight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teal
03:02 PM Connor: C:100 M:0 Y:0 K :43 hex #009292
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: ok so it's Cyan and some black
03:03 PM Connor: Thats the web based color.. I'm not sure what we ended up with on the rattle can or the paint we had mixed up.
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: it's in the ballpark
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: the best any store will do it match to a color chip in the their selector
03:04 PM Connor: Yea, that's what we did. I still have the formula for the paint we mixed.
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: only specialty paint stores will exact color match a gallon for you
03:05 PM Connor: https://knoxmakers.org/machining/
03:05 PM Connor: Flip through the slide show at the top.. you can see the teal stripe and the color of the work tables.
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: we used to have customers come in with things like a grain of wheat or a blade of tan grass
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: can you match this?
03:06 PM Connor: Yikes
03:07 PM jym: CaptHindsight: And did you?
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: jym: well which color in the wheat or grass, I can see about 20 shades
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: send them to the color books, get formula, mix, get lost
03:08 PM jym: D) all the above?
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: spray can of tan spatter paint
04:04 PM Deejay: gn8
04:14 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
09:38 PM cerna: Is there any writeup if something interesting happened at the Stuttgart meetup?
09:45 PM Tom_L: not that i'm aware of yet
09:46 PM Tom_L: andy went so you could pick his brain when he shows here
09:46 PM Tom_L: they did get a machine running on a Rpi4
09:46 PM Tom_L: i think
10:00 PM jym: 54" touchscreen lcnc ???
