01:35 AM Loetmichel: mornin'
02:11 AM Deejay: moin
02:41 AM pink_vampire2: hi
02:44 AM pink_vampire: hi
02:45 AM pink_vampire|2: test
02:45 AM pink_vampire: test
02:45 AM Deejay: ++
02:46 AM Deejay: working ^^
02:47 AM pink_vampire: yeah I just discovered that I can work with the IRC from my phone
02:47 AM pink_vampire: so far it is work 10 times better than on the computer
02:50 AM pink_vampire|2: test pink_vampire
02:51 AM pink_vampire|2: test pink_vampire
02:52 AM pink_vampire: cool!! even mention notification work amazingly good
04:20 AM pink_vampire|2: hi XXCoder
04:20 AM XXCoder: hey
04:21 AM XXCoder: today was so boring
04:21 AM pink_vampire|2: why?
04:21 AM XXCoder: hour each pallet so i do nothing for most of day
04:22 AM pink_vampire|2: what type if parts?
04:23 AM XXCoder: its 1"x1"x1" part
04:23 AM XXCoder: its simple part but has epensive curves
04:23 AM XXCoder: so one pallet has 4 of em, at 15 min each thats a hour
04:24 AM pink_vampire: what kind of material
04:24 AM XXCoder: alum
04:25 AM pink_vampire: did you saw my millturn test part?
04:25 AM XXCoder: yeah
04:25 AM XXCoder: pretty cool
04:25 AM XXCoder: looks like wood handle
04:26 AM XXCoder: couple pictures
04:27 AM pink_vampire|2: https://imgur.com/a/DPZUs3D
04:27 AM XXCoder: yep those pics
04:28 AM pink_vampire: yeah I've added more pictures to the album
04:28 AM XXCoder: ya interesting
04:28 AM XXCoder: wooden replacement? or you casting it?
04:29 AM pink_vampire: no, the wooden piece is just to make sure I'm not crashing the machine
04:29 AM pink_vampire: the real part going to be made out of brass
04:29 AM XXCoder: ahh cool
04:29 AM XXCoder: smart way to test yeah. wood is cheap
04:30 AM pink_vampire: I really need to find a way to send a picture directly from the phone
04:31 AM pink_vampire: I'm so used to WhatsApp
05:16 AM Tom_itx: morning
05:16 AM pink_vampire|2: hi Tom_itx
05:24 AM jthornton: morning
05:25 AM pink_vampire|2: hi jthornton
06:03 AM XXCoder: crazy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCNW8TcU3qQ
06:03 AM XXCoder: FULL breakdown of car engine
06:03 AM XXCoder: hope they dont mix up pisions, bolts and etc
06:51 AM Elmo40: looks as though he is doing this inside a paint booth.
06:53 AM Elmo40: no reputable body shop would allow oil to go into a paint booth like that. they'd have bad paint jobs for months!
06:58 AM enleth: XXCoder: there's a YT channel of a guy who does full breakdowns of 16-cylinder mining truck engines in his shop
06:58 AM enleth: basically refurbing second-hand units
06:58 AM enleth: those engines are bigger than that whole BMW
06:59 AM enleth: he needs a ladder to climb on top to remove intake and exhaust manifolds
07:00 AM enleth: and an overhead crane to manipulate parts as they're being unbolted
07:48 AM esch: think my boss will notice if I replace this guardlogix plc with an arduino and just write 'safe' on it?
08:07 AM Elmo40: doubt it.
08:07 AM Elmo40: but let us know what happens...
08:10 AM esch: lol
08:16 AM gregcnc: the haggerty rebuilds are a bit more watchable
08:16 AM gregcnc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XJE-2KNH-Y
08:38 AM jthornton: damn it's brutal outside this morning, sweating my ass off just picking up chicken poop
08:47 AM Loetmichel: hmpf... just got a call from the car mechanic. "Car is done, you can come take it... but that it passed the road safety check earlier this year... lets say that Tester wasnt really thourough... we have to do some more SOON..." MAN, that will be expensive... .-(
08:51 AM jdh: old cars are not worth the hassle and lack of reliability
08:51 AM Loetmichel: the problems owning an old BMW ;)
08:52 AM Loetmichel: 525i E39 station wagon ;)
08:53 AM Loetmichel: bought it in march... with "fresh TÜV" (Road safety check)... was probably made by a friend of the seller or with both eyes closed by €100 notes or something
08:53 AM Loetmichel: thats what the mechanic meant
09:06 AM jthornton: is there not a way to make the seller pay?
09:22 AM perry_j1987: morning
09:28 AM FinboySlick: I thought owning a BMW meant that everything is someone else's problem.
09:29 AM FinboySlick: Guy thinks I'm driving 6 inches from his rear bumper? His problem. Lady was cut off? Her problem.
09:30 AM FinboySlick: Can't park because my has the perfect diagonal to use 3 spaces? Your problem ;)
09:30 AM FinboySlick: *my car
09:36 AM gregcnc: eh you mean women in SUVs?
09:37 AM perry_j1987: do those mitee bite clamps leave marks?
09:38 AM gregcnc: they make a lot of stuff.
09:38 AM methods_: depends on what jaws you use
09:38 AM methods_: and what material you're clamping
09:39 AM perry_j1987: looks like thy call them fixture clamps
09:39 AM perry_j1987: those octagon ones with the eccentric caphead screw in it
09:39 AM methods_: mitee-bite makes a lot of diff styles
09:40 AM methods_: some of them will leave a mark on your part
09:40 AM perry_j1987: https://www.miteebite.com/products/fixture-clamps/
09:41 AM methods_: those probably won't
09:41 AM methods_: they're not serrated
09:41 AM methods_: assuming the material you're using is harder than brass
09:42 AM methods_: if the work material is softer than brass then it's possible they could mark the part
09:42 AM perry_j1987: brass or harder or harder than brass?
09:43 AM methods_: it just says they're made out of brass you'd have to ask mitee-bite what the hardness is
09:45 AM gregcnc: looks likequite a few of those photos are holding brass parts.
09:45 AM perry_j1987: good eye gregcnc :P
09:45 AM gregcnc: are you doing any finishing after?
09:49 AM perry_j1987: i'll have to put some thought into this and mull it over a bit
09:50 AM perry_j1987: no finishing that could take out gouges
09:53 AM perry_j1987: i was just looking into coolants for my new mist cooler. cant find anything less than a gallon on amazon
09:58 AM Loetmichel: *puh* got lucky. The dreadful "we have to do something soon" is just a broken shock mount on the rear. Mechanic will see where to get a set of back shocks for cheap (ebay) and call me back. Rest is back to working condition: new parking brake pads, derusted wires and adjuster for it, oil change including the peeling off of the old filter in little pieces, Error P1620 is gone from the ECU,
09:58 AM Loetmichel: too (cooling thermostat heater burnt thru)... and it is QUIET again! ;)
10:11 AM esch: for an older BMW that's about as good a shop visit as you can hope for
10:21 AM gregcnc: anyone headed to area 51?
10:24 AM methods_: why you going to visit XXCoder?
10:25 AM gregcnc: https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/15/us/area-51-military-warning-trnd/index.html
10:27 AM methods_: challenge accepted
10:34 AM Loetmichel: esch: indeed!
10:35 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: saw a comment lately somewhere: "when a time traveler comes back and get asked "aaand? how many peope were at Area51?" he will answer: "Oh, you mean the great Area51 massacre?"
10:35 AM Loetmichel: :-)
10:41 AM perry_j1987: hmmm is there some locally sourceable coolant i can give this mist cooler a try today
10:43 AM gregcnc: "coolant" can be many things
10:55 AM gregcnc: anyone ever seen a toolpost grinder like this? Must cost a fortune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCzuUKGQu3w
10:59 AM perry_j1987: JT-Shop that work for brass too?
11:02 AM JT-Shop: I don't think so, but I might be wrong
11:11 AM perry_j1987: thinking of 3d printing a block with 2liter bottle threaded hole in it and ports for fittings.
11:12 AM perry_j1987: throw regulator with compressor fitting on one side and other side gets tube down to bottom of jug with a compression fitting
11:13 AM perry_j1987: or wait...
11:13 AM perry_j1987: im speaking without thinking :P
11:13 AM perry_j1987: my cheapo mister just needs a reservoir. its creating suction with pressure drop etc
11:40 AM jym: Morning folks
12:25 PM gregcnc: 30kUSD 1986 toyota pickup? https://canyonstateclassics.com/vehicles/750/1986-toyota-pickup-std-cab-sr5-turbo-4x4?
12:59 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
12:59 PM Tom_itx: perry_j1987 seems like alot of work for a coolant jug. i poked a hole in the lid of an old windshield washer fluid jug
01:08 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
01:08 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, how's the heat over there?
01:08 PM Tom_L: iirc, they said 102 here today
01:25 PM Tom_L: stop looking :)
01:27 PM Tom_L: at least the wind is blowing here
01:30 PM Rab: 98°F forecast for here, heat index of 105°F. It'll be a very warm bike ride home from work.
01:36 PM FinboySlick: gregcnc: It must be the one McFly won in the first back to the future movie.
01:43 PM gregcnc: Back to the Future was the first thing I thought of.
01:46 PM perry_j1987: where are you located Tom_L
01:55 PM Rab: Wierd DIY 5-axis machine: http://www.rtftechnologies.org/general/desktop-cnc-index.html
01:55 PM Tom_L: Ks
01:56 PM Rab: Has an 80K high-speed PCB milling spindle with /geared/ power transmission.
01:57 PM Tom_L: are those spindle motors from drones?
01:57 PM Rab: Yeah, they look like outrunner BLDC motors.
01:58 PM Rab: Here's his low-speed motor, 525W: https://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalog/helicopter/motors_4/hkii-22/HK-2221-6/
01:58 PM Tom_L: i bet they run hot
02:32 PM JT-Shop2: here
02:32 PM JT-Shop2: here's a tip, when you change the battery on your silverado don't pinch the hood latch cable... it's a bitch to change
02:55 PM skunkworks: Rab: I 'think' there is a build thread on cnczone
03:04 PM jthornton: well the heat index is at 106°F now...
03:06 PM XXCoder: Elmo40: seems he dont have that much room.
03:14 PM jym: JT-Shop2: and in 106F, ouch
03:14 PM XXCoder: gregcnc: I still wonder how serious that is. so many is going to die if it was. if million is going, I bet theres in least 10 russia agents ready to take info lol
03:22 PM gregcnc: darwinism?
03:29 PM jdh: jthornton: is your battery hidden under a bracket in the corner on the passenger side by the firewall?
03:29 PM jdh: vs. sitting in the big open space at the front on the drivers side?
03:30 PM jthornton: in the corner under the bracket on the drivers side... tis the only way to catch the hood latch cable under the bracket
03:33 PM Elmo40: XXCoder, is the Arduino larger?
03:33 PM XXCoder: huh?
03:34 PM Elmo40: you said he doesn't have that much room.
03:34 PM XXCoder: i dont own any so I dont know
03:34 PM Elmo40: was that a comment on replacing a board with an arduino
03:34 PM XXCoder: that was for your earlier comment about engine
03:34 PM Elmo40: 'guardlogix'
03:34 PM Elmo40: i see
03:35 PM XXCoder: that paint room has MASSIVE air filteration system though
03:35 PM XXCoder: couple videos was about him building it
03:35 PM Elmo40: to collect paint fumes. not dirt.
03:35 PM Elmo40: they are supposed to prevent dirt from entering the booth.
03:36 PM Elmo40: it takes a LONG time to remove oil and coolant residue from a booth. Just the vapours from the oil will ruin a paint job.
03:37 PM XXCoder: wow hope he figures it out
03:37 PM XXCoder: he recently built that shop (insides not building itself)
03:38 PM XXCoder: he did previously mess up floor but it was sparky clean later. maybe he cleans it abostely? dunno
03:50 PM Deejay: re
03:58 PM * JT-Shop2 finally figured out what was wrong with the 4 wheel drive...
03:59 PM andypugh: Only 3 wheels?
04:03 PM JT-Shop2: only 1 wheel drive...
04:03 PM JT-Shop2: wood rats chewed through some wires under the fuse box
04:03 PM JT-Shop2: prob why the knock sensor is complaining as well
04:04 PM XXCoder: :( https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2019/07/16/widespread-dangerous-heat-wave-expand-across-much-us/
04:05 PM XXCoder: and people keep thinking climate change is fake
04:05 PM XXCoder: when will people understand? when 120f across usa, and its below average?
04:05 PM esch: yeah well, earth is flat too right
04:06 PM andypugh: People who believe in climate change should just go back to a cooler country..
04:06 PM XXCoder: i dont belive in climate change
04:06 PM XXCoder: i know it to be so
04:06 PM XXCoder: and I live at cooler area of usa.
04:06 PM XXCoder: its 66f here npw
04:07 PM FinboySlick: You'll hear from the union Andy. Starting political debates in here is my job!
04:07 PM esch: bah
04:08 PM esch: can't figure out how to send a msg to this stupid camera switcher thing
04:10 PM esch: should've just used the rs232 port again rather than monkey with adding a generic TCP/IP device in studio5k
04:11 PM BitEvil is now known as speedevil
04:11 PM esch: all the documentation is like 'select your device from the list'
04:11 PM esch: thx AB
04:27 PM Deejay: gn8
04:36 PM speedevil is now known as SpeedEvil
05:08 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, its 90 something here
05:09 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, I'm in south florida and ya..... I have NOT seen the ocean rise ANY :)....
05:09 PM _unreal_: infact I dare say if aything could be lower
05:11 PM CaptHindsight: 90F and raining, welcome to the tropics
05:13 PM JT-Shop: heat index 115°F now
05:13 PM JT-Shop: and thursday - sunday just changed from yellow heat warning to red excessive heat warning
05:16 PM _unreal_: its not raining here?
05:16 PM _unreal_: 115 lol
05:16 PM _unreal_: being in florida there is so much water. here that it cant boil :)
05:16 PM _unreal_: LOL
05:16 PM _unreal_: ok taking a shower
06:08 PM JT-Shop2: one wire only had about 3/16" left at the plug... just managed to solder a splice on it... dang that was hard to do
06:08 PM * JT-Shop2 calls it a day
06:10 PM _unreal_: JT-Shop2, ?
06:11 PM Tom_L: and it's only the middle of the week
06:16 PM jthornton: Tom_L: damn wood rats chewed up some wires under the fuse box and that was my 4 wheel drive issue I do believe as well as maybe the knock sensor error
06:17 PM Tom_L: figures
06:17 PM Tom_L: got the bed back on yet?
06:17 PM jthornton: yea it was only off for a short while
06:17 PM Tom_L: next comes the dash...
06:18 PM jthornton: still need to put it back on... but waiting to see if the 4 wheel drive button works or not
06:18 PM jthornton: got two more wires to splice and a few more to tape up...
06:19 PM Tom_L: just finished cleaning out the condenser on the ac
06:20 PM jthornton: walls dried up yet?
06:20 PM jthornton: I should check mine as well
06:20 PM Tom_L: they drilled holes along the baseboard yesterday and will check it tomorrow
06:20 PM Tom_L: just removing the baseboard helped alot
06:21 PM Tom_L: he was surprised yesterday
06:21 PM jthornton: drilled through the sheetrock?
06:21 PM Tom_L: yeah along where it won't show under the baseboard
06:21 PM Tom_L: i went overboard when i dug the basement. i insulated all the interior walls for soundproofing
06:22 PM Tom_L: i'm sure it sucked the water up like a wick
06:22 PM jthornton: me too
06:22 PM jthornton: I don't think fiberglass will wick water up or did you use rock wool?
06:22 PM Tom_L: so possibly might be done drying tomorrow
06:22 PM Tom_L: fiberglass
06:22 PM Tom_L: either way it was retaining moisture
06:23 PM Tom_L: odd because some walls only one side was still wet
06:23 PM jthornton: the vapor barrier will because it's paper
06:24 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure what i used on those interior walls, it may have been bare, i can't remember
06:24 PM Tom_L: likely had the barrier on it
06:26 PM Tom_L: i laid the 2x4 flat on the exterior walls on the concrete so he had to drill a few of those above the baseboard line
06:26 PM jthornton: trying to figure out what OS I want to install on this PC, it's my main development linux PC
06:26 PM Tom_L: he was gonna wait but i told him just to do it
06:27 PM jthornton: I only have a couple of rooms that are finished out down here
06:27 PM jthornton: a bathroom and a bedroom with a walk in closet...
06:28 PM jthornton: it's where we lived when we first moved in as the upstairs was bare walls and there was no living room upstairs
06:34 PM Tom_L: i wound up finishing the whole thing
06:34 PM jthornton: the basement?
06:34 PM Tom_L: started with an office and family room but re'did it and added a bedroom for the boys
06:34 PM Tom_L: yes
06:34 PM Tom_L: office turned into a bedroom
06:35 PM Tom_L: i liked the office there because it was cool and quiet
06:35 PM jthornton: I bet it was nice and quiet
06:35 PM Tom_L: over the years i've pretty much been over the whole house
06:36 PM Tom_L: i had them pour the walls under the house
06:36 PM jthornton: it's just us and pets since the MIL passed so no reason to finish up the rooms except for I'd just like to
06:36 PM Tom_L: that was an experience
06:36 PM jthornton: you dug out the basement after the house was built?
06:36 PM Tom_L: yup
06:37 PM jthornton: WOW
06:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/1.jpg
06:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/2.jpg
06:38 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/5.jpg
06:38 PM Tom_L: kinda crappy pics
06:38 PM Tom_L: those were film prints :)
06:38 PM jthornton: so you had a crawl space and you made it into a basement?
06:38 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/7.jpg
06:38 PM Tom_L: yes
06:39 PM Tom_L: you can see the old foundation there pretty good
06:39 PM Tom_L: they ran rebar up into it's footing
06:39 PM Tom_L: and steel posts under it every 10' or so
06:39 PM Tom_L: then poured the walls around them
06:39 PM jthornton: wow that's living on the edge so to speak
06:40 PM Tom_L: my brother inlaw did it once so i figured it might be worth it
06:40 PM Tom_L: they've had a few fall in but we both got lucky
06:40 PM Tom_L: been one of the best additions i've done
06:41 PM jthornton: how many sq ft did it add?
06:41 PM Tom_L: when he was done i cut off the back of the house 1st floor and redid that as well
06:41 PM Tom_L: to square off that corner where he went in
06:42 PM Tom_L: probably 900-1000
06:43 PM jthornton: that siding looks like the siding that was on my house in Pascagoula MS that was build around WW2
06:43 PM Tom_L: redid hvac, plumbing, sewer, electrical where needed
06:43 PM Tom_L: masonite
06:43 PM jthornton: yea, I think that is what I had
06:43 PM Tom_L: it's held up pretty well
06:44 PM Tom_L: this was probably built in the 30's
06:45 PM jthornton: I think mine was build in the early 40's
06:45 PM jthornton: lumber was oak, so hard you had to drill a pilot hole to put a nail in
06:46 PM Tom_L: been there
06:50 PM Tom_L: rough sawn and probably oak here too
07:19 PM andypugh: Our oak is older than your oak, I bet ;-)
07:19 PM Tom_L: i bet so too
07:20 PM Tom_L: we're a young rebellious country
07:30 PM pink_vampire: someone know maybe how can I extend lvds cable
07:30 PM pink_vampire: ?
07:31 PM perry_j1987: wouldnt a younger country have older potential oak than a place people have been harvesting it longer though?
07:33 PM perry_j1987: pink_vampire how far do you need to extend
07:33 PM perry_j1987: lvds to hdmi converter boards if you need to go far
07:34 PM pink_vampire: let me measure 1 second
07:36 PM pink_vampire: no the cable is 11 inches and I need 13 inches
07:36 PM pink_vampire: now*
07:39 PM pink_vampire: what is the maximum length of lvds cable that you can use??
07:40 PM andypugh: perry_j1987: Potentially, though I was really meaning “made into a house longer ago”. I think that the US claims the worlds oldest tree.
07:42 PM perry_j1987: pink_vampire do you have connector on each end or is it built-in on one side
07:42 PM perry_j1987: ah yes utilized timber for sure.
07:43 PM pink_vampire: yes there is a connector on each end
07:43 PM perry_j1987: count the conductors and see if you can find a supplier (aliexpress etc)
07:44 PM pink_vampire: I'm wondering if I can just splice it in the middle and just going to use the regular CAT5 twisted pair wire
07:46 PM andypugh: perry_j1987: Though there is a Yew in Wales nearly as old as the Bristlecone pines in the US>
07:47 PM perry_j1987: i remember being told they took out all the yew trees to make long bows a very long time ago heh
07:48 PM andypugh: Not this one: https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/wilderness-resources/photos/the-worlds-10-oldest-living-trees/llangernyw-yew#top-desktop
07:48 PM perry_j1987: pink_vampire pyralux flat cable to cat5 to pyralux?
07:49 PM perry_j1987: andypugh wow
07:54 PM Tom_L: you could play hide n seek in that
07:54 PM pink_vampire: not even sure what pyralux mean, I thought about ethernet cable because it's already come as twisted pairs that I can take apart and in use
07:57 PM Rab: pink_vampire, flexpcb material, made from kapton.
08:01 PM perry_j1987: aye basically copper film and kapton tape had a baby
08:01 PM pink_vampire: Rab, I saw those ribbon cable on eBay but the original cable is twisted pair and this is why I'm not sure it is going to work because it's a full HD monitor
08:01 PM perry_j1987: brought to you by Dupont :P
08:01 PM pink_vampire: let's not forget the Teflon pan
08:02 PM pink_vampire: but I'm using stainless
08:07 PM andypugh: I am downloading some packages to the Pi. 15MB / Sec. I remember the days when you probably would post a floppy in preference to trying to download a 1MB file.
08:09 PM pink_vampire: I still have here some floppy this cats
08:09 PM pink_vampire: LOL
08:10 PM pink_vampire: that autocomplete just kill me I had to send it!
08:10 PM andypugh: diskettes + autocomplete?
08:11 PM andypugh: I wouldn’t try to download _or_ post a floppy cat.
08:14 PM pink_vampire: apparently, cats are more popular then floppy diskettes
08:22 PM pink_vampire: because my CNC enclosure is too small, and I don't have flood coolant, I need to take a shower like a normal person
08:22 PM pink_vampire: see you in a bit
08:56 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
