12:51 AM pink_vampire: hi
04:20 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: !
04:20 AM pink_vampire: !
04:21 AM XXCoder: i wanted to ask you something but forgot lol
04:21 AM pink_vampire: LOL
04:21 AM XXCoder: i guess it wasnt important. well hows ya
04:23 AM pink_vampire: no comment
04:23 AM XXCoder: ok
05:06 AM jthornton: morning
05:06 AM XXCoder: yo
05:06 AM pink_vampire: hi
05:08 AM Tom_L: morning
05:12 AM Deejay: allo
05:16 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/thread_mills/Boring_Mill_Holder.jpg
05:16 AM Tom_L: turned out a little better this time
05:17 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QcYX240U2I
05:17 AM XXCoder: ohh spindle "lathe"
05:17 AM Tom_L: still not perfect but alot better than it was
05:18 AM jthornton: did you bore it while mounted to the spindle?
05:22 AM Tom_L: yessir
05:22 AM jthornton: I thought so when I saw the boring bar in the vise
05:24 AM jthornton: Andy is working on that but with a servo thread of <7,000 who needs RTAI
05:25 AM Tom_L: that's pretty good
05:25 AM Tom_L: can you build debian 10 as 32 bit?
05:25 AM jthornton: and a base thread of 17,000
05:25 AM jthornton: I don't think you can
05:26 AM Tom_L: eliminates alot of older hardware
05:26 AM jthornton: that's were Lubuntu shines, it works with very old hardware
05:30 AM XXCoder: puppy linux or dsl
05:31 AM XXCoder: forgot which is current
05:33 AM jthornton: not heard of those
05:33 AM XXCoder: both is very small distros
05:33 AM XXCoder: one of em is hard lined at 50 mb
05:33 AM XXCoder: everything you might want in basics. email, browsing. desktop manager etc
08:57 AM gloops: so..this motor, first thought cap had gone - lost all power, put bigger cap on - started smoking, ok time for another motor, fits perfectly good brook motor - few minutes - smoke
08:58 AM gloops: only thing it can be is on off switch?
09:00 AM Loetmichel: *FINALLY* Both printers AND octoprint running... tomorrow i need to install (when they arrive) two c270 webcams into octoprint and the system is operational! :-) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17415&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
09:34 AM beachbumpete1: Ender 3's
10:01 AM beachbumpete1: Morning LinuxCNC
10:09 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:11 AM SpeedEvil: https://imgur.com/gallery/EopxaP6 Today on when good bearings go bad.
10:13 AM Connor: Loetmichel: Octoprint (I use octopi) is the best. :)
10:18 AM gregcnc: that engine has IGVs or it would have been ugly
10:30 AM perry_j1987: well thanks for getting me stuck on imgur for 20 mins heh
10:33 AM FinboySlick: gregcnc: Thanks, now I know what IGVs are :)
10:34 AM Rab: I hate the whole MD-8x family. Old, cramped, loud, stinky.
10:39 AM Jymm: Morning folks
10:49 AM gregcnc: Though I'm pretty sure a cone that spins is much better secured
10:52 AM gregcnc: oh that reminds me i have a ceiling fan that's about to do the same
10:52 AM Jymm: gregcnc: the fan is about to launch into outter space?
10:53 AM gregcnc: the light portion is about to fall out the rest
10:53 AM Jymm: ah gotcha
11:16 AM Loetmichel: Connor: its planned to upgrade to 4 ender3pros
11:16 AM Loetmichel: if the two pan out
11:16 AM Loetmichel: i doubt a raspi can handle four printers AND four cameras ;)
11:17 AM Loetmichel: so i bought an used optiplex 790 (i3, 12bg ram, 250gb hdd, should be sufficient)
11:20 AM Jymm: Loetmichel: 4 printers???
11:37 AM Loetmichel: btw: just came back from the car mechanic, looked under the car... no, the exhaust itself isnt broken. BOTH bolts of the flanges that hold the manifold to the Katalysator simply corroded SO thin that they fit thru the holes in the flange. INCLUDING the nuts. So it opened up there. mechanic will try to drill out the remains, put new bolts and a new gasket in and go for it.
11:37 AM Loetmichel: jym: eventually, yes
11:40 AM Jymm: Loetmichel: But why 4 printers? what kind?
11:41 AM Loetmichel: ender3
11:41 AM Loetmichel: pro
11:42 AM Loetmichel: to get a bit of output
11:42 AM perry_j1987_: so i need a rs485 usb dongle to do a modbus connection to my vfd eh?
11:42 AM Loetmichel: considering the main part they will print runs ~5 hours...
11:42 AM Loetmichel: and we sometimes need 20 or 30 of them
11:42 AM Loetmichel: havent you seen the picture?
11:49 AM Jymm: oh, 3d printer, gotcha
11:49 AM Jymm: you cna run 4? for production or ???
11:49 AM Loetmichel: [15:54] <Loetmichel> *FINALLY* Both printers AND octoprint running... tomorrow i need to install (when they arrive) two c270 webcams into octoprint and the system is operational! :-) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17415&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:49 AM Loetmichel: look at the picture
11:49 AM Loetmichel: yes, production
11:50 AM Loetmichel: if that works for us with the two we will buy another two and set them up with the same server
11:50 AM Loetmichel: including 4 webca,s
11:50 AM Loetmichel: cams
11:50 AM Loetmichel: so that the users can see if they FUBAR the print ;)
11:54 AM Jymm: why not one pi per printer, networked?
11:57 AM FinboySlick: Loetmichel: Make sure the underside of the car is 100% OK and pot the whole thing in epoxy. No more corrosion problem!
11:58 AM FinboySlick: Plus, you get a smooth, drag-reducing undercarriage. Of course, you might have to drill it out to change the oil but that's a small price to pay.
11:58 AM Loetmichel: FinboySlick: epoxy around a 500°C++ exhaust? really?
11:59 AM Loetmichel: think again ;)
11:59 AM FinboySlick: Here you go being german and thinking about the details again.
12:00 PM Loetmichel: i just know the nasty smell of burning epoxy all to well
12:00 PM Loetmichel: i dont like it one bit ;)
12:01 PM FinboySlick: The smell of most two-part epoxy I used was pretty nasty as well, burning or not.
12:01 PM Loetmichel: "that smells fishy"
12:02 PM Loetmichel: "is there an electrical fire nearby?"
12:02 PM Loetmichel: (hint: most electronics componet casings are made of epoxy, too)
12:33 PM Connor: there is a plugin for octoprint called spaghetti detective... looks for bad prints..
03:45 PM Deejay: gn8
04:50 PM _unreal_: hello
04:50 PM perry_j1987_: o/
04:57 PM _unreal_: Whats new?
05:04 PM perry_j1987_: its hot out
06:22 PM _unreal_: perry_j1987_, I live in south florida
06:22 PM _unreal_: its ALWAYS hot here :)
06:26 PM _unreal_: do any of you rememeber who I ordered this thing I just got in the mail from?
06:26 PM _unreal_: ;)
06:26 PM * jthornton is glad I don't live in south Louisiana anymore but I miss the food
06:27 PM jthornton: walking out at 7am and breaking out in a sweat before you can get the truck started...
06:28 PM _unreal_: EBAY I got it from ebay
06:28 PM _unreal_: heh
06:29 PM _unreal_: OK so I got this https://www.ebay.com/itm/CNC-USB-MACH3-100Khz-Moudle-Board-4Axis-Interface-Driver-Motion-Controller-New/254246332101?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
06:30 PM _unreal_: I DONT know if its a real one or not but I think it is. i have yet to find any differences between this and the "offical site ones" but the website that sells these sells them for $89+ship
06:30 PM _unreal_: Now my question is does this control board work with linuxcnc?
06:30 PM jthornton: prob not it's a usb board for marktree
06:31 PM _unreal_: I thought there were a few USB controllers
06:31 PM _unreal_: that worked with linuxcnc
06:31 PM jthornton: none
06:31 PM _unreal_: ? hum
06:31 PM Tom_itx: none
06:31 PM jthornton: mesa has some ethernet boards
06:32 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
06:37 PM _unreal_: very strange considering the protocal of network and USB are different are still serial at there core
06:37 PM jthornton: usb is not real time and linuxcnc is
06:37 PM jthornton: just the facts ma'am
06:37 PM _unreal_: heh
06:37 PM Tom_L: usb could be interrupted at a crucial time in the machining process
06:37 PM Tom_L: like when a tool is going 2000ipm straight for your brand new vise?
06:37 PM _unreal_: to hell with the machine, i'm always interupted at a crucial time
06:37 PM _unreal_: hehe
06:37 PM SpeedEvil: USB has real-time modes.
06:37 PM _unreal_: SpeedEvil, than you! I know I figured I'd get "backlash" if I mentioned it
06:37 PM _unreal_: GOD I love one liners
06:37 PM _unreal_: and I've been drinking
06:37 PM _unreal_: good
06:37 PM * Tom_L turns down the _unreal_ volume on his set
06:37 PM jthornton: lol
06:37 PM _unreal_: sheh
06:37 PM _unreal_: HI YALL SO BAL BLA BAL BLA bla bal ...........
06:37 PM _unreal_: heheheheeh
06:38 PM _unreal_: I was running into clearance isues with the bit and not having the full Z stroke
06:38 PM Tom_L: it cooled down quite a bit this afternoon then the sun came back out
06:38 PM _unreal_: WOW
06:38 PM _unreal_: I spent over 35 years in new england area
06:39 PM jthornton: they reported 65 MPH winds in Piedmont which is 40 miles from me, never had much her
06:39 PM jthornton: r
06:39 PM jthornton: here
06:39 PM _unreal_: jthornton, florida can see temp swings like that BUT always rebounds fast. I'm revering to the ranging rain storms we get in the summer
06:39 PM _unreal_: pass in 20min but boy can they dump some water
06:40 PM Tom_L: it's been overly humid here lately
06:40 PM jthornton: I used to live on the gulf coast in Mississippi and miss the breezes
06:40 PM Tom_L: unusual for this time of year here
06:41 PM Tom_L: the .500 collet holder went less than stellar
06:41 PM Tom_L: .002" runout on it
06:41 PM _unreal_: heh jthornton prob 15 years ago at this point but one of my best friends and I were out on the canoe in the "pond" at his fam's camp. And we had a barrel clound roll over us. never seen 3' waves in that small lake before
06:41 PM Tom_L: i followed the directions too
06:41 PM Tom_L: dammit!
06:42 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, oh wow. were you running high rpm's or a slow rpm milling cycle?
06:43 PM _unreal_: does the bit return or does it also induce deflection?
06:43 PM jthornton: yea I've seen some really big waves on Lake Pontchartrain off of New Orleans
06:43 PM Tom_L: _unreal_ neither
06:43 PM Tom_L: i'm making a collet
06:44 PM Tom_L: or just scrap metal atm
06:44 PM _unreal_: making?
06:44 PM _unreal_: interesting
06:44 PM jthornton: what do you think happened?
06:45 PM Tom_L: about the only thing left i can think of is play in the spindle itself
06:45 PM Tom_L: or just crap to start with
06:45 PM _unreal_: and how are you generating the compression system? As in a standard collets design. considering most collets are laser cut theses days
06:46 PM jthornton: time to chill out and have some rabbit food
06:46 PM Tom_L: later
06:46 PM _unreal_: now my old craftsman router that is truly indestructible. has a collet setup that looks more like a lock washer/collet hybrid
06:46 PM _unreal_: jthornton, just think thousand island
06:46 PM _unreal_: :)
06:47 PM _unreal_: brb grabbing an other beer
07:02 PM Elmo40: after you grab it, what do you do with it? O_o
08:03 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PDSzG32O1Y
08:06 PM _unreal_: well That was fun
08:07 PM Connor: skunkworks: Looking good.
08:07 PM skunkworks: Getting there
08:09 PM Connor: I have a touch probe from ebay that some guy made.. It's not too bad last time I used it.. but, that's been years.. I'm rebuilding the CNC right now.
08:12 PM skunkworks: cannot live without a probe..
08:13 PM Connor: I've been living without a CNC for a few years now. :(
08:19 PM andypugh: skunkworks: Does your probe have centering screws? My MP1 has a ball-joint at the top, and 4 scres that hold it up on to that that you adjust like a 4-jaw chuck. The screws are hidden under the outer case.
08:22 PM skunkworks: andypugh: no.. It did requre some finess to align it the final few tenths...
08:23 PM skunkworks: the back is held on with 4 alen head screws. there is a slight bit of movement that can be eeked out of it
08:25 PM skunkworks: unless I missed something totally obviouse... ;)
08:25 PM andypugh: Sounds like that could be the same idea
08:27 PM skunkworks: what did the ball joint look like.. this seems to just have a centering ring that kinda alinges the back
08:27 PM skunkworks: Should have took pictures of it
08:28 PM andypugh: Well, there was an actual ball on one side and a straight counterbore on the other.
08:36 PM skunkworks: hmm. Down the center of the back of this probe is a way to adjust the tension
08:52 PM Wolf__: MP1 probe, ball found in the center hole https://i.imgur.com/xo5niek.jpg
08:53 PM andypugh: Yes, MP3 is like that.
08:53 PM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/YkpeHoc.jpg oddly when I got that one, the ball was missing lol
09:33 PM skunkworks: mine doesnt look anything like that
09:41 PM Wolf__: yeah, tp1s was made for CMM so usually on a fixed arm so it wont spin so if its not 100% dead nuts its taken care of in calibration
09:45 PM skunkworks: That is kinda what we figured
09:46 PM Wolf__: right now you have it mounted with shank in a bore right
09:55 PM Wolf__: .0001” is pretty impressive imo
10:18 PM andypugh: It is. But the screw fixing for the stylus has always struck me as not really guaranteeing repeatability. With a CMM that simply does not matter, with a machine probe you dial it in.
10:48 PM _unreal_: cutting out some hold downs I designed
