12:16 AM bjorkintosh: 'basic' time travel.
12:21 AM XXCoder: yeah none of frills
12:21 AM bjorkintosh: it's "time" travel! TIME!
12:21 AM infornography: LOL at Ya'll
12:21 AM bjorkintosh: well. I say it's improbably. you have to be in total control of the complete state of every single bit of information.
12:23 AM bjorkintosh: little thing known as entropy gets in the way of all time travel, yes, including de Luxe and Premium.
01:12 AM Valen: There are ways acording to physics, you just need some cosmic string
01:13 AM Valen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_timelike_curve
01:13 AM Valen: simple really
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: boring 1.2" dia holes in 6061 2.5" deep
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: do you use a drill and then boring bar?
01:49 AM gloops: could borrow my vintage walker turner if local
01:49 AM CaptHindsight: 3/4" endmill with 3" of flute
01:49 AM CaptHindsight: or watch a 1/2" end mill 4" long chatter itself to death?
01:51 AM CaptHindsight: not sure how I ended up with so many 1/4 - 1/2" dia endmills with 3+ inches of flute
02:39 AM * Loetmichel has his cheap 3dprinter back working... new firmware and new belts (old were steel core and broke after a couple years) and that Anet A8 is a whole new printer... UI is quite better, it runs smoother and prints a LOT smoother. (and nearly double the speed before problems hit)
02:39 AM Loetmichel: ... also it has now a fire protection (activated the thermistor plausibility check in the new marlin Firmware) ;)
03:50 AM Valen: Ey pcw_home just some feedback on the 7i32 manual, it gives the pinout for the motor connector but doesn't actually tell you the pin number to physical layout, IE which pin in the socket is pin 1 2 3 etc
03:51 AM Valen: (makes a difference with a square 12 pin plug)
04:57 AM jthornton: morning
06:42 AM Tom_L: morning
06:45 AM Loetmichel: hmm... http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17406&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:45 AM Loetmichel: doesnt even look half bad for 60mm/sec print speed at 200% feed rate... (0,18mm layer height)
06:45 AM Loetmichel: cura estimated 5h57min print time, machine did it in 4:29
06:45 AM Loetmichel: so the 200% print speed didnt do 2 times, but quite substantial faster
06:48 AM jthornton: dang you go from really good looking garden to crap really fast, tomatoes all turned yellow and now are dropping the tomatoes, cucumbers leaves are shriveling up
06:48 AM jthornton: tomato leaves are yellow and they have black spots
06:48 AM Loetmichel: more water?
06:49 AM jthornton: it's a fungus on the tomatoes but I didn't recognize it fast enough
06:50 AM jthornton: I thought it was heat on the cucumbers yesterday but they look worse this morning
06:50 AM XXCoder: :(
06:50 AM Loetmichel: sorry to hear that
06:51 AM jthornton: and there must be 200 green tomatoes in the raised bed plants
06:51 AM jthornton: the ones on the deck don't have any tomatoes to speak but look good
06:53 AM jthornton: the good thing is after months and months of scratching my head and having the dash off of the truck I finally got the transfer case control module out, so a new one is on the way and I hope to have 4 wheel drive back working on Rusty
08:23 AM miss0r: !seen fragalot
08:23 AM miss0r: seen fragalot
08:23 AM miss0r: ..?
08:24 AM gloops: nope
08:24 AM Valen: Where's the log at these days?
08:24 AM gloops: think he got a new g/f
08:24 AM miss0r: gloops: Doubt it
08:25 AM gloops: ive missed a lot but seem to remember him mentioning a new g/f or something
08:25 AM gloops: unless he was talking about the mill lol
08:26 AM gloops: he also said he would be in the UK sometime around now
09:17 AM jthornton: Valen: it's still in the same place
09:18 AM * Valen doesn't remember the incantation to get the bot to show him
09:19 AM Valen: thanks ;-)
09:21 AM Valen: Pretty sure I done screwed up
09:21 AM Valen: Got it into my head 7i32's were compatible with linuxcnc
09:22 AM Valen: that does not appear to be the case on the "I was getting to plugging it in and checking pinouts" level of examination
09:22 AM * jthornton goes back upstairs to finish painting the south living room wall
09:23 AM jthornton: looks like they work with 50 cards like the 5i24
09:25 AM Valen: They do mechanically
09:25 AM Valen: but turns out they desire a PWM input to set the stepper current
09:25 AM Valen: not step-dir input
09:25 AM Valen: pwm-dir
09:26 AM Valen: which isn't something hostmot2 does
09:26 AM Valen: I have a 6i24 to plug the whole setup into, was thinking it'd all be really neat and nicer than geckos
09:30 AM pcw_home: Yeah there's SoftDMC firmware that supports the 7I32 (even with encoder feedback) but no direct support from LinuxCNC/Hostmot2
09:30 AM Valen: If I can't return them I'll have to make some kind of micro controller step > PWM converter
09:34 AM pcw_home: It would probably be possible to hack the stepgen firmware to output 2 phase PWM (use say 256 LSB counts of stepgen as pointer into the sin/cos lookup)
09:35 AM Valen: I was thinking that would be possible, even with just a lookup for the microstepping but it would be far beyond my capabilities
09:36 AM pcw_home: I would hack at it but I have about 6 major support things already stacked up
10:53 AM perry_j1987: morning
11:17 AM _unreal_: if you guys go to www.makercam.com is it full screen or totally messed up?
11:18 AM DaViruz: pretty messed up in chrome here
11:19 AM _unreal_: only showing at the top of the window
11:20 AM _unreal_: ?
11:20 AM _unreal_: like you can only view a small window
11:24 AM gregcnc: i thought flash was dead
11:26 AM jym: Gooooooood morning Viet.. um err.. cnc people!!!
11:27 AM Deejay: RIP robin
11:27 AM jym: Yeah, he was awesome
11:27 AM Deejay: indeed
11:27 AM jym: MAd MAgazne is closing after 67 years
11:29 AM _unreal_: rip robin?
11:29 AM Deejay: yo, robin williams
11:29 AM jym: _unreal_: Robbin Williams
11:29 AM Deejay: the guy of good morning vietnaaaaaam
11:30 AM jym: _unreal_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIikfdNIHQE
11:32 AM _unreal_: ? he died a while ago
11:32 AM Deejay: yip
11:32 AM Deejay: 2014 or so
11:33 AM _unreal_: rip to someone who died nearly 6 years ago.. random
11:34 AM jym: _unreal_: homage, due credit, etc
11:41 AM _unreal_: any suggestions on good open source cam software?
11:41 AM _unreal_: everything pushes for @#$@#$@#$2 windows
11:41 AM _unreal_: very annoying
11:42 AM jym: _unreal_: Do you use VM's?
11:43 AM perry_j1987: i just use fusion
11:44 AM perry_j1987: works on my mac nicely
11:46 AM * Loetmichel thought to have halluzinations this morning. But just now i saw ANOTHER articulated (city-)bus drive by my balkony while out there smoking. could have nearly touched it. Turns out there is roadworks down on the main road and the normal route is blocked... I DONT envy those Bus drivers to squeeze those monsters in a 30kph/18mph single lane street and navigate between the parked
11:46 AM * Loetmichel cars... :-0
11:47 AM jym: Loetmichel: smoking? or vaping?
11:47 AM Loetmichel: smoking
11:47 AM Loetmichel: i do both ;)
11:47 AM Loetmichel: vaping inside, for a smoke i go out.
11:47 AM jym: Loetmichel: I know you vape, and thought it was to quit smoking
11:48 AM Loetmichel: i did
11:48 AM Loetmichel: for nearly 3 years
11:49 AM Loetmichel: then started again
11:49 AM Loetmichel: but low level
11:49 AM jym: Loetmichel: shit happen?
11:49 AM Loetmichel: stress probably
11:49 AM jym: Yeah, seems there's always a trigger of some kind
11:51 AM jym: Loetmichel: I've been wanting to get that aspire, but not sure what juice I would like that I can get. LOVE coffee, but can't find a good juice anymore.
11:51 AM gregcnc: what coffee vape? nicotine or caffeine
11:52 AM Loetmichel: gregcnc: nicotine but with coffee flavour
11:53 AM Loetmichel: jym: as i am in germany i dont really have good juice sources you would have access to, sorry
11:53 AM Loetmichel: i order nearly all my vape stuff on dampfplanet.de
12:24 PM jym: Loetmichel: Well, I need to sample before buying to have an idea, that's my issue.
12:35 PM perry_j1987: waiting on some new endmills to arrive tomorrow
12:35 PM perry_j1987: why cant there be tooling vending machines in every town heh
12:38 PM jym: perry_j1987: Maybe make one?
12:39 PM perry_j1987: i'd have to wait even longer then for the tools to make them heh
12:39 PM jym: perry_j1987: No, I mean make a tooling vending machine
12:39 PM perry_j1987: oh heh
12:39 PM jym: perry_j1987: They have gold bar vending machines, so why not?
12:39 PM perry_j1987: maybe i will
12:39 PM perry_j1987: i'll get the machine you pay to stock it ok?
12:40 PM perry_j1987: :)
12:40 PM jym: perry_j1987: Sure, you service it and get 5% of the net profits
12:41 PM perry_j1987: sure there is a fee for holding your stock of endmills in there though :P
12:41 PM jym: It's included int he 5%
12:42 PM perry_j1987: heh
12:42 PM jym: perry_j1987: And if I'm being charged, then you deal with all warranty/liability claims
12:42 PM perry_j1987: heh
02:40 PM net|: i seen tempering steel with toaster oven recently
02:48 PM jym: not all that uncommon I believe
02:49 PM net|: with refactory cement on inside i wonder if its good for that metal wax 3d printing process
02:50 PM net|: probably too hot for the glass
03:01 PM net|: https://www.steelforge.com/literature/metal-melting-ranges/
03:19 PM Tom_L: wouldn't think a toaster oven would hold up under those temps
03:24 PM Loetmichel: Tom_L: toaster ovens can cope with at LEAST 300°C
03:24 PM Loetmichel: some even more
03:24 PM Loetmichel: inside the roasting chamber
03:26 PM Tom_L: i made one for reflow
03:35 PM * JT-Shop was curious for a moment how high his toaster oven would go but but not enough to get a ladder out to see
03:41 PM Tom_L: it goes to '10'
03:42 PM gloops: cant remember what archivist used to blue those clock hands up - seem to think it was a domestic grill or oven
03:42 PM gloops: they looked mighty well i know that
03:42 PM Tom_L: little tricky to get blue just right
03:42 PM Tom_L: before it goes brown
03:42 PM Tom_L: or vise versa
03:43 PM gloops: yeah, similar thing to making toast lol
03:44 PM gloops: blue isnt enough for tempering for hardness though
03:44 PM Tom_L: no
03:50 PM jym: You can always insulate a toaster oven for higher temps too
03:50 PM Tom_L: i did
03:51 PM Tom_L: part of it anyway
03:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/insul1.jpg
03:54 PM jym: Tom_L: Sorry, I meant like plaster or perlite
03:54 PM Tom_L: yeah i figured that for those temps
03:55 PM jym: Tom_L: how does the fiberglass work for you?
03:55 PM Tom_L: for reflow, great
03:55 PM jym: Tom_L: keeps the temps stable since adding it?
03:56 PM Tom_L: follows the profile closer
03:56 PM jym: nice
03:57 PM jym: Tom_L: I still liek that knife forge someone made, damn impressive imo
03:57 PM Tom_L: andy i think
03:58 PM jym: No, a youtube, let me see if I cna find it again.
03:59 PM pcw_mesa: I simplified my proto assy by not doing high temp reflow at all, and using 138C solder
04:00 PM pcw_mesa: not for power parts but ok for most everything else
04:00 PM perry_j1987: how often do you need to check the setscrew on your milling vise
04:00 PM Tom_L: just before it comes loose
04:00 PM perry_j1987: i checked it when i installed it on the mill and just checked now and it was super loose heh
04:01 PM perry_j1987: could lift the whole thing up
04:01 PM jym: Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MNwqwmrWgQ
04:02 PM Tom_L: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/projects/smelter/p1120838.jpg
04:02 PM Tom_L: rue just re'did his smelter
04:03 PM Tom_L: works 90% better now
04:05 PM jym: Tom_L: what did he do differently?
04:05 PM Tom_L: redid the insul
04:06 PM Tom_L: instead of hand applying it this time he stuck a 8" pipe inside as a mold
04:06 PM Tom_L: and made an insulated lid instead of a steel plate
04:09 PM Tom_L: https://twitter.com/i/status/1145461129851752453
04:23 PM jym: Tom_L: Heh, it's funny how much heat it lost without a lid, or evne thru the roof of a house.
04:32 PM Deejay: gn8
04:34 PM _unreal_: my 48v psu just showed up
04:34 PM _unreal_: wow what a difference
04:37 PM Tom_L: tongue test?
04:38 PM jym: LICK IT, LICK IT GOOD
04:39 PM JT-Shop: if anyone asks me to hand tap a M30 x 3.5 they are going to get bitch slapped... that is very hard to do
04:39 PM Tom_L: hehe
04:39 PM Tom_L: use a cheater bar?
04:40 PM JT-Shop: I used a 15" cresent wrench and I had enough power to spin the part in the collet lol
04:40 PM _unreal_: hard tap it tap that tap bitch
04:41 PM JT-Shop: I started at 75% and kept making the hole bigger by 0.005" until I could tap a full thread
04:41 PM _unreal_: this is driving me nuts. all I want to do is make a machine path to level a 4.5" x 4.5" and all the @#$#@$^%@#$ tools are windows based
04:42 PM JT-Shop: when my buddy picks it up he better be waving a bengie in the air
04:42 PM _unreal_: and the inkscape gcode crap is not working or at least I have not figured out how to get it to output for what I need it to
04:42 PM JT-Shop: G code?
04:42 PM _unreal_: JT-Shop, yes
04:42 PM JT-Shop: just use a loop if you want to zig zag across
04:43 PM _unreal_: ?
04:43 PM _unreal_: prefer to do a 'circle" style if possible
04:43 PM _unreal_: I've outputed an outline
04:43 PM JT-Shop: a spiral?
04:43 PM _unreal_: perfect outline 4.5"x4.5" using a 1/4" end mill
04:44 PM _unreal_: for my 4.5x4.5" square
04:44 PM _unreal_: cutting 2mill deep
04:44 PM _unreal_: I just need to cut the rest of it
04:44 PM _unreal_: :)
04:44 PM JT-Shop: looks like you just need my mill G code generator
04:45 PM Tom_L: full width cut?
04:45 PM _unreal_: ?
04:45 PM _unreal_: I just may
04:45 PM _unreal_: trying to do a fill
04:45 PM _unreal_: err a
04:45 PM _unreal_: pocket
04:45 PM _unreal_: 4.5"x4.5" pocket at 2mm deep overall 0.5mm per pass
04:46 PM Tom_L: you should hand code that
04:46 PM JT-Shop: http://gnipsel.com/files/mill-g-code/
04:46 PM _unreal_: going to order parts tonight so I can build the DC speed control adapter for my spindle
04:46 PM _unreal_: JT-Shop, is that win or linux?
04:47 PM Tom_L: python
04:47 PM Tom_L: i think
04:48 PM JT-Shop: I don't write anything for windblows lol
04:48 PM _unreal_: even better py
04:48 PM JT-Shop: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/gymYytSjB4/
04:48 PM JT-Shop: that's some code it just spit out
04:48 PM _unreal_: ya this windows crap is driving me nuts
04:49 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop he's metric iirc
04:49 PM Tom_L: err maybe that was someone else...
04:49 PM JT-Shop: it says it will do metric, but I'm sure I've never tried it
04:50 PM Tom_L: you've got a G20 there anyway
04:50 PM JT-Shop: must have never programed it to put a G21 in I just tried
04:50 PM Tom_L: only think i wonder with that is if that would screw with the tool table offsets
04:50 PM _unreal_: meric/standard does not matter I can GCODE that shit
04:50 PM Tom_L: if it did happen to be metric
04:51 PM Tom_L: i did a post for both on mine
04:52 PM Tom_L: i've got a gcode editor that would probably translate it anyway
04:52 PM Tom_L: never tried that
04:52 PM _unreal_: ok. got it into a folder how do you go about running it?
04:52 PM _unreal_: ahh? ./mill ?
04:52 PM Tom_L: load it in linuxcnc
04:53 PM _unreal_: oh its not a stand alone
04:53 PM Tom_L: oh the program? i dunno
04:53 PM jym: What is F50? Feed at 50% speed?
04:53 PM JT-Shop: yea it's stand alone
04:53 PM Tom_L: 50 ipm
04:53 PM jym: Tom_L: ty
04:54 PM _unreal_: I belive 99% of the cnc'ers would love to do 50ipm
04:54 PM _unreal_: ZZZZzzzzZzZZzzZZZZZ DONE
04:54 PM Tom_L: heh my kid laughs at me now
04:54 PM JT-Shop: you might rename it to mill and move it to your .bin directory and make it executable
04:54 PM Tom_L: they run their junk at 400 ipm
04:54 PM jym: Tom_L: in what, playdough?
04:54 PM _unreal_: JT-Shop, ?
04:55 PM Tom_L: jym aluminum
04:55 PM JT-Shop: ??
04:55 PM jym: Tom_L: in a machine center?
04:55 PM Tom_L: yes
04:55 PM Tom_L: big ones
04:55 PM jym: Tom_L: figures =) HAnd em a mill and see them fsck it all up =)
04:56 PM Tom_L: most of the parts they run are loaded with a crane
05:03 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, how much overlap did you program that?
05:03 PM Tom_L: out of curiosity
05:04 PM JT-Shop: no clue lol
05:04 PM Tom_L: hah
05:04 PM JT-Shop: I forget what it defaults to but you can set it to what ever you want
05:06 PM JT-Shop: hmm imagebin.ca seems to be broken
05:07 PM JT-Shop: quitting time here... I don't see the boss anywhere
05:07 PM XXCoder: isnt you your own boss?
05:08 PM Tom_L: the _real_ boss
05:08 PM XXCoder: aka clients? heh
05:08 PM Tom_L: mrs jt
05:08 PM XXCoder: ah
05:11 PM jthornton: no mirrors out in the shop so I can't see myself
05:11 PM jthornton: that way I can sneak out
05:11 PM XXCoder: lol
05:12 PM XXCoder: careful not to see your hands as you open doors etc
05:14 PM jym: Whats the worse that could happen? Tell the boss to phuk off?
05:16 PM _unreal_: I've done that many times. and I've been thanked every time because I end up being right :)
05:20 PM Tom_L: _unreal_ how many Amps was that PSU?
05:26 PM jym: Tom_L: https://imgur.com/gallery/Nw3jXu5
05:27 PM jym: Tom_L: So no more drinking bath water for you
05:28 PM jym: So how to attach the two??? https://imgur.com/a/J8clzu4
06:39 PM jym: Nope nothing to see here, just move along... https://goo.gl/maps/cBfL98bnc6DJX11n9
06:41 PM _unreal_: the PSU is 4.5amps
06:42 PM _unreal_: my motor is rated for 200watt at 48v which is like 1.6amps if I recall
06:44 PM jym: steppers?
06:52 PM _unreal_: spindle
06:52 PM _unreal_: rebooting
07:05 PM _unreal_: still no sign of fdarling
07:05 PM _unreal_: sigh
07:40 PM CaptHindsight: !seen fdarling
07:40 PM CaptHindsight: there is some bot code for searches
07:42 PM roycroft: _unreal_: I = P/U = 200/48 = 4.17 amps
07:42 PM _unreal_: !seen fdarling
07:42 PM _unreal_: seen is not showing anything

07:44 PM roycroft: mayhap he's on holidays
07:45 PM _unreal_: not impossible. but last thing he told me was he was kneed deep in work... and slated to be busy for some time. so the total MIA is odd
07:48 PM _unreal_: ! no wonder..samba iss not installed. been trying to access my file server
08:08 PM Tom_L: _unreal_ the psu was for your spindle?
08:10 PM Tom_L: heh, i was gone for a while and an irc user had the police call my cell phone out of concern :)
08:10 PM Tom_L: damn, can't even go on a vacation....
08:10 PM Tom_L: this was some time back
08:11 PM Tom_L: so driving down the highway i get this call...
08:21 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight i don't think that bot is here anymore
08:22 PM roycroft: if i ever disappear from irc for a long time assume that i've acquired a life, not that anything is wrong :)
08:23 PM CaptHindsight: ;;seen Tom_L

08:26 PM CaptHindsight: what it did fer me
08:26 PM Tom_L: huh
09:34 PM _unreal_: OMG freecad is wayyyyy over complicated
09:34 PM XXCoder: on what?
09:34 PM _unreal_: everything
09:35 PM XXCoder: it does have bit steep learning curve but worth it
09:35 PM _unreal_: I can do everything in freecad. that I can do in sketchup from what I see and there are no 50 levels of menus options
09:35 PM Tom_L: any cad had a learning curve
09:35 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, true
09:36 PM _unreal_: though I think freecad's methodology is a bit off.
09:36 PM _unreal_: more or less a collection of programs packaged under one umbrella

09:37 PM _unreal_: GOD!! i hate booting into windows just so I can run sketchup
09:41 PM _unreal_: I wish I could remember what it was. back when I built my first cnc machine my main computer was running win98... and I had some great utils etc... I could make nc files like nothing. now all the web sites are gone and I cant remember the names of the software

09:42 PM roycroft: freecad is very unixy
09:42 PM roycroft: instead of being a huge monolithic app it's a bunch of smaller apps that each do what they do well
09:43 PM roycroft: and they're kind of glued together
09:43 PM _unreal_: all I want to do is make a work path to flatten my work area on a screw down work pad of 4.5x4.5"
09:44 PM roycroft: you could give fusion 360 a go, if you don't mind handing all your files over to autodesk
09:44 PM _unreal_: I'm trying to make the body "active" so I can fucking pocket it. sorry still not active
09:45 PM _unreal_: and every help file I've looked at list's about 30 + steps with out ever getting to how to make X active
